Happy 57th birthday to King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands!

Born on April 27 1967, Willem-Alexander Claus George Ferdinand acceded to the Dutch throne following his mother's abdication in 2013. On the day of his accession he became Europe's youngest monarch, as well as the first male monarch of the Netherlands since his great-great-grandfather William Ill in 1890.

He married Máxima Zorreguieta Cerruti in 2002 and they have three daughters: Catharina-Amalia, Princess of Orange (20), Princess Alexia (18), and Princess Ariane (17).

His Majesty The King will shortly return to public-facing duties after a period of treatment and recuperation following his recent cancer diagnosis.

To help mark this milestone, The King and Queen will make a joint visit to a cancer treatment centre next Tuesday, where they will meet medical specialists and patients. This visit will be the first in a number of external engagements His Majesty will undertake in the weeks ahead.

In addition, The King and Queen will host Their Majesties The Emperor and Empress of Japan for a State Visit in June, at the request of HM Government.

As the first anniversary of The Coronation approaches, Their Majesties remain deeply grateful for the many kindnesses and good wishes they have received from around the world throughout the joys and challenges of the past year.

Mary in comparison looks like the one who has the gravitas in that couple. The pic of her alone is great, except the dress. But that pic of the two of them looked nothing like a king and queen, they stood so awkwardly

I didn’t like any of letis outfits on the state visit to the Netherlands. The last out fit was pretty but it overwhelmed her.

But that pink dress is great! It’s very pretty and suits her perfectly, especially the colour!

wait I have a maybe obvious question that I just don’t get lol. When people say the RF “releases” a picture to the media, does that just mean they send the picture they’re going to post to the newspapers ahead of time? And if that’s true, is it just so the newspapers can release the picture on the persons actual birthday (or whatever event is being celebrated?) I fear this is so basic and I just don’t know any terms 😭

haha ur good and yes, that's exactly what's done. They do that for birthday pictures, portraits, sometimes when they want to announce some new initiative etc, they send the picture to the media ahead of time so it's printed in the papers and the media shares it on their own channels.
