#mayor cobblepot
Text
Personally I believe that every politician
should have an Edward Nygma who trusts them to win without bribing, and who'd take back the bribes behind their back.
Being in a Nygmobblepot relationship might also help with, you know, queer rights and stuff.

idea: gotham's nygmobblepot, but edward is hired as oswald's lawyer after he becomes mayor. after a while, when a relationship between them is build and oswald trusts ed (at least a little, enough) to take care of his...less legal business.
ed (and/or the riddler) shows his darker side via. threats, manipulation and whatnot, and oswald is impressed, surprised, and maybe even a little interested (in a non-professional way *wink wink*)
i like to imagine a shy and flustered (s1 type) edward when he's not in court or actively working, and a vicious, brutal prosecutor ed when he's doing business.

"-I am aware of that, but considering the situation at hand, and the much more unpleasant alternatives, I suggest you-"
Oswald, the newly appointed mayor of Gotham, loved a lot of things about his chief of staff.
From his riddles and puns to his odd habits and unique ways to express himself, Edward had endeared himself to Oswald over time and had become his closest (and only) friend.
Another thing the kingpin liked about Ed, was his intelligence. He was more often than not left gaping when his dear friend would demonstrate knowledge Oswald hadn't know he'd possessed before. This was one of those times.
"Herr Weber! Genau der Mann den ich sprechen wollte. Hören Sie, die letzte Lieferung von 'Büromaterialen' scheint nicht angekommen zu sein-"
It was interesting to watch Ed switch from one language to another, depending on the person on the other end of the call. He was fluent in the way he spoke, confident, never stuttering or doubting the meaning of his words. He knew what he was doing, that was made abundantly clear when Oswald once asked him a while ago if it was a better idea to hire a translator.
"Oswald, trust me. I know what I'm doing."
Edward then proceeded to have a lengthy conversation with a French mobster about shipments and whatnot. (Oswald wasn't fluent and therefore could only pick up bits and pieces from the conversation, not that he'd told Ed that.)
"Vielen Dank, einen schönen Tag noch."
The taller hung up with a sigh of apprehension.
Oswald, snapping out of his musings, reached out to put a hand on Ed's shoulder.

Oswald Cobblepot is so unsettling, and actually, he should be more unsettling. Peak unsettling was probably reached in season 1, when he was being a little creep all day everyday, and in season 2, once he comes out of brainwashing. Can't explain it, but to me, he never shines again quite like he does when he's looking around Liza's house, smelling Fish's perfume and obviously knows so much more than the other characters, but won't say. Or the absolute genius of the scene in season 2, with his step-mother's murder. He's cruel, he's taking a very perverse pleasure out of the suffering of those he takes revenge on, he is terrifying. It's him being smart and using that and his knowledge of others to be as fucked up as he can. I don't know if it's making sense. Anyways, season 1 and 2 Oswald makes mistakes, but he's genuinely terrifying, uncomfortable, nightmare-inducing, and I love that for him.

ok so i recently discovered that mayors don’t actually have a cheif of staff and ik that we’re probably supposed to assume that maybe they just do in the gotham universe but ive decided its WAY funnier if they actually don’t and Oswald just made up that job for Ed

Edward Nygma x Ides of March 😂 (Incorrect Quote with a Little Nygmobblepot)
Tumblr really is that weird little social media platform that makes you edit a long-dead historical figure into a DC show and think "Yup, people will definitely like this" 🤭😂
Tumblr media
Spoilers for Gotham S03 E12:
Edward Nygma: Why should Oswald get to hobble around like an emperor penguin while the rest of us try not to get smushed under his feet? What's so great about Oswald, hm? Isabella was just as smart as Oswald. OK, Isabella was just as...cute as Oswald.
I totally liked Isabella just as much as I liked Oswald. And when did it become OK for one person to be the boss of everybody, huh? Because that's not what being mayor is about! We should totally just stab Oswald!
Bonus: My previous attempts:

And this gem, with a very memeable Caesar:

Harley's Commentary - Rogues! The Podcast
(S04E05)
Cobblepot biting off the douche mayor's nose was totally inspired by Danny Devito's Penguin in Batman Returns.
