For the emoji asks, 🤩 and 🧐?
yey! thanks for the ask :D
🤩 - favorite character to draw
Honestly, I don't have a favorite per se. There's some I find myself coming back to whenever I don't have a specific plan for what I wanna draw (young teen ahsoka, purshee and tipit, sifo-dyas, jocasta...), honestly anything with a design you can have fun with.
I love coming up with new hairstyles and outfits for characters, so the more i dislike their visuals in canon or the more free real estate the character design is, the more often i draw them lol
🧐 - do you spend much time researching and finding references for your images
no.
like, the usual amount of references for my drawings is 0
sometimes I will accidentally see a pose or an outfit I think really matches a character and I'll draw them in that, but I don't go searching for stuff on purpose. I like making things up as I go or just reference things I know from experience.
I think there's been a whopping total of two (2) whole drawings that I actually looked up specific references for :P
one is this mandosona thing of me that I did for an insta challenge once (i had to look up he trachten of specific cantons my fam is from)
Tumblr media
and the other is this star trek oc wallpaper thingy with the crew of the renowned starfleet ship USS Joe Mamas

Something simple today showing a bit of love for my mando oc, been slowly working on the physical armor for a cosplay of her. That project has been a new challenge, almost every piece is completely custom so I have been learning 3D modeling for her armor pieces so I can get them made. #mando #mandosona #mandalorian #mmcc #mandalorianoc #starwars #starwarsart #thisistheway #sketchbook #sketch #traditionalart #originalcharacter #originalart #originalcharacterart #digitalart #starwarsrebels https://www.instagram.com/p/CfelPjVJnl8/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The #MandosonaChallenge is a GO!!
I KNOW it's late, but here's that starter!! Bee in her Rusyn armor, a cape based off Kievan Rus garb, and a saddle similar to medieval Russian tack!! I had a lot of fun with this, and researching my Rusyn background for it?? 💕💖💕 (and the Orbak is even based off the Carpathian "Hucul" Pony!)
Gist of the challenge: make yourself a Mandosona (or an OC if you'd like to not show your face) based off your own culture and/or heritage!! Draw their design, draw them in a scene, write a story/blurb for them, or even just some headcanons about a clan based off your culture!!
How would Celts look as Mandos? What about your Mexican roots? Mongolian? Decide how far back you want to go, research, and enjoy!! 🙌🏻🎉
Main guideline is just to avoid anything offensive, and research and use respectfully (ex: no conquistadors/other colonizers, no slapping an "Indian headdress" on someone from a tribe that doesn't/wouldn't wear that, etc.)
Enjoy and tag me, I CANNOT WAIT to see what you make!!??
Close-ups below!! ALSO SO HAPPY WITH THE BACKGROUND IMMA CRY??

Mandosona
Some of y’all might know but @ollovae3 is hosting a mandosona challenge! She challenged us to incorporate our ethnic and cultural backgrounds into making a mando oc and/or mando clan! I did a bit of both!
This mando clan, which honestly doesn’t have a whole lot to it, is based heavily on Chinese culture (specifically, Han history and culture). The clan itself is one fraught with tension and infighting, often leading to periods of splintered separation and unity. This mando clan is known for its smithing, and elaborate ceremonial garb worn during times of peace. The ornamental headdress is detachable, only worn on special occasions like weddings or religious ceremonies. Hanfu outfits go along with headpieces. Together, these two pieces of fashion can denote experience, family, and other such accomplishments through life
When figuring out what my sona’s armor was going to look like, I took a lot of inspiration from Chinese armor. The chest piece has lamellar pieces, as does the kama piece. The vambrace like armor is inspired by the arm pieces worn by archers or scouts in the Chinese army. And of course, you can see me with my new haircut :))

“We are Terra-Mandalore”
Tumblr media
Surpriiiise !
a little something inspired by @ollovae3 ‘s mandosona challenge !
Like how some people belived Egyptian deities were from another planet, this au is basically the same thing but with mandolorians ! Over the centuries, it spread and mingled with other cultures around our little blue globe while still keeping the same religion and traditions leading to the creation of the terra-mandalorians

Here's my entry for @ollovae3 's mandosona challenge! His name is Wjaacor D'Zecco, inspired by the Sorbian words 'Wjacor' and 'Džećo', meaning 'Child of the Evening'. His tattoos are inspired by the so called 'Bossier-Technique' where dyed beeswax is used to paint very specific patterns on eggs. Them and the colors symbolize warmth, energy and tradition aswell as wishes and prayers for a healthy and blessed future. The beige and grayish headwrap and collar are inspired by traditional Sorbian garbs around the region of Budyšin. The shoulder pieces are inspired by the garbs aswell. The fabrics colors, opposite to black and white, indicate that he is not married.
Now to dive a little bit into the character himself, as I already mentioned his name is Wjaacor, he's 19, a big fucking smart-ass and well, clumsy. He got his scar and the crooked nose from when he tripped over his own feet while taking off his helmet, resulting in the ledge of it smashing into his face and breaking his nose.
His mother took that as an omen to reconsider the traditional placement of his tattoo and had it instead wrap around his head instead of his arm.
I'd really love to flesh out his character more and add a background and more than just flat colors but my job and school are killing me rn. Hope y'all like him :)

no i didn't forgot to post this here what are you talking about-
open for better quality!
Joined @ollovae3's challenge!! Had so much fun searching for this one!!!
My dad's obsessed with the prehispanic cultures, and I ended up loving them as well! Specifically, she's based on mexicas
Wall-text with explanations down below
Her name is Kyr'sarad Ixtli (with Kyr'sarad meaning "flower of the dead". This is how the cempasúchil is known in real life. By tradition of the Day of the Deads, this flower helps the spirits to reach the altar, thanks to its strong scent. Ixtli comes from Ixtlilton, the mexica god of medicine, dancing, festivals and games)
Their clothes are a tribute to Ixtlilton, with some changes, maintaining some details like the pattern in the cloth. The armors designs are based in mexica warriors battle paint. Also, a very stylized axolotl in the back of her helmet (i love axolotls, i couldn't resist!). Also! Notice that all the lines are straight; that's the main theme of the tribe.
The little spiral-like symbols in front of her show that someone is speaking.
The blue in her armor is for reliability, the green is for duty, and the red if for honoring a leader (both the clan's and Ixtlilton, as all the healers are believed to be chosen ones of the god). White and black are only for aesthetic porpoises.
She's holding a bowl of a mix of aloe vera and cempasúchil; aloe vera is often used for stomach aches when ingested and, in general, many other pains, while cempasúchil is used to help with respiratory problems; Kyr has nervous gastritis and asthma so i found them very fitting! They're a healer, and some of the people in the tribe joke that all she needs is some plants and her hands to heal almost everything (there's true in there, and maybe a little bit of Force sensitivity that helps them to find injuries easily)
Also! I love the way mexica's pictures are face a side, and wanted to reflect that too!
btw this one is for the spaniards 🖕/hj

This is my entry for @ollovae3 #MandosonaChallenge ! The prompt: “Make yourself a Mandosona (or an OC if you’d like to not show your face) based off your own culture and/or heritage!! Draw their design, draw them in a scene, write a story/blurb for them, or even just some headcanons about a clan based off your culture!!

So I based my Mandosona off Aztec Jaguar warriors! The Jaguar warriors were incredibly fierce, wearing the body of a Jaguar while in battle. They believed that doing so would be given the animal’s strength during battle. In this particular clan, the Mandos would paint the head of a creature on their helmet, and usually styled their clothes to emulate the creature as well.
Also taking inspiration from the Aztecs was the thick beaded necklace, the color symbolism derived from traditional Mandalorian color schemes: Green meaning “Duty”, Yellow meaning “Remembrance”, and Red for “Honoring a Parent/Leader” My Mando has chosen the Nexu as their creature, with their helmet and clothes designed to emulate the ferocious creature. On their wrists are protective bracelets, with the head of a Nexu engraved on the inside.
I’d like to add a background and a full body rendition sometime, but I was worried I’d take too long and miss out lol

So, I can’t draw. But I wanted to participate is @ollovae3’s #MandosonaChallenge anyway. Putting stuff under a read more, as there are pictures courtesy of Google and Mando Creator and I don’t want to make people scroll.
The only culture I interact with on any side of my family is my Dad’s Italian side, through the food his mother taught him to make.
This food has actually caused arguments with my Mom’s mom, who is super traditional and did not appreciate Christmas Dinner being a lasagna instead of a turkey. Even though no one likes grandma’s turkey and loves Italian lasagna, sausage, and meatballs.
Anyway, when looking at traditional Italian clothes, I came to the sudden remembrance that Italy was not a united nation until recently. And I don’t know which part of Italy the family is from, so I used these two pictures for reference for color, anyway:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So catch my mandosona repainting their beskar during special holidays and rolling up to the adjacent house’s covert with a spantasy lasagna the noodles are purple the cheese is blue and more cookies than any one clan should reasonably be able to make in such a short time looking like this
Tumblr media
Thank you Mando creator
I apologize to your eyes.
I will most likely upload a second version with a better color palette for my 100% Irish looking ass.

finally finished my drawing for the Mandosona challenge hosted by @ollovae3 !!
i’m from Friuli, a region in north-east italy, and my family has lived here for generation, so i’m quite fond of its tradition and symbols.
in my mandosona i wanted to incorporate some things from the past history of my region, as well as some ties to my present self (under the cut you can find a “map” with all the meanings of the details in the design + some close-ups for details).
it’s been really fun researching and learning something new about my culture and the place i grew up in !!

My mandosona, as part of @ollovae3 ‘s challenge, representing my Newfoundlander heritage.
Represented is Newfoundland tartan on the chest plate, and the other colours are inspired by the province’s flag which includes blue (waters of the sea, lakes, and rivers), white (snow and ice), red (human effort), and gold (confidence of the people).

Here’s my take on @ollovae3 ‘s Mandosona challenge !
My Gallo-Mando !
Basically My Franc comtoise roots (east of France, Franche-Comté) on my mother side during the Gallic era
-The Gallic shield pattern is an homage to the bell towers’ architecture with the colors of the region’s flag (blue yellow and a bit of red)
-with the traditional #mandolorian armor, my sona wears a saie, held by a fibule, a simple tunic under a chainmail and a pair of braies
-the armor and helmet are decorated with the closest runes I could find related to Gallic druids
-here’s the fun part, one of the big symbols of Franche Comté is the Montbéliarde cow and during the antiquity era, this region was part of the Sequane territory and one of their deities was another type of bovin, Tavros Trigaranus, “Bull with 3 cranes” and some mistranslation led it to be read as “Bull with 3 horns”, hence why I added a Reek as a ride with the colors of the cow (the rune on the helmet is actually the Bull revisited as a Reek)
This was a fun challenge to do and a learned a lot of my very distant origins though this !
