Roll up! Roll up! It's that time of year again: the nights are longer, it's all feeling colder, and the shops are all trying to sell you stuff. But here in the Sanctuary side of fandom, it's the start of the festive fic exchange!
Do you like writing fic?
Do you like reading fic?
Do you like putting unnecessary stress on yourself to make a wonderful gift for someone, just to have half of the fandom turn around and say, "Aaaaaaah, that's exactly what I needed to read right now?"*
Then this is the fic exchange for you! Today's post is the sign up post. Under the cut will be a list of questions. All you have to do is send me either a DM or an ask with your completed questionnaire then wait for your match!
Schedule!
Sign up: 21st Nov - 5th Dec
Matches sent out by 7th Dec
Touching base post: 20th Dec**
Collection open for posting: 26th Dec
Collection reveal: 31st Dec
This is open to anyone in the Sanctuary fandom, regardless of character/shipping preferences. When it comes to fic length, the minimum is 300 words. I don't really wanna give a max (because I know how the muse can get sometimes), but if we cap it around the 2k words mark that should be cool.***
I'll be posting a link to this around the place (and reblogging again this evening for the later crew), and you are more than welcome to message/contact me with any questions, queries or concerns.
Under the cut: the questions!
Username on Tumblr/AO3: (I need a method of contacting you 😊. If you have neither, pop me your email or something? We'll figure it out.)
Things I am comfortable writing: (gen or shippy? Fluff writer or angst? Family feels?)
Things I would not want to write about: (all the things you don't wanna write - characters you dislike, pairings you don't vibe with etc. Also heads up on any triggers you might have - you don't need to explain the whys.)
What I'd like to receive: (go for gold! The more info you can give, the more tailored to you the fic will be.)
What I would not like to receive: (All the things that you do not vibe with, or squick you. Please please please again with any trigger warnings - I don't want a gift to upset you. 😊)
Any other info that doesn't fit in the other questions: (General vibes, could you be a pinch hitter, any thoughts, questions, etc)
--
And that's that. 😊 Thank you for joining in, and see you December 7th with your matches!
*You can answer no to this one - it's just how I am when it comes to these things. XD
**If you find you can't finish, or something comes up that means you have to pull out, please let me know so I can arrange a pinch hitter. I won't be angry or disappointed or anything because this is for fun, and your health (mental and/or physical) is more important.
**Obviously, if you find you go over a bit, don't freak out or anything. This is just for fun, after all.

Sanc(tuary) Weekly
A weekly writing game for the Sanctuary fandom, where anyone is welcome to participate!
Outline:
At the start of each week duration, a participant will start a brand-new fic for the Sanctuary fandom!
From there, everyone who wants is free to reblog it with their own addition and so forth to make a story. Stories can continue being reblogged/written after their initial week, but a new fic will start the following week, with a new person starting as determined by the wheel spin. Wheel spins will be performed by sarcasticsciencefictionwriter two days before the next start date. The chosen person will be alerted via private messaging or askbox.
Rules:
1.Be respectful. Don't complain where someone takes the story, critique their writing, etc.
2. No ship or character bashing. Ties in with the above rule. If someone brings in a ship or character you don't like, don't turn the story into how to destroy that ship/character in favor of another. Go earlier in the reblog chain and continue the story from there instead. (We want everyone, including non-Teslen shippers, to feel welcome and participate)
3. Keep it safe for work. Again, on the principal of everyone feeling welcome, NSFW content is not allowed. (If you do want to take it that way, keep it outside the chains and make a new post for yourself)
4. Do not reblog from yourself. Feel free to hop in multiple times on one story/chain, but don't turn the story into a one-person show. Let everyone have fun. [Edit: You may reblog from yourself after the initial week has passed for each story]
5. Use the Tag #sanc weekly writing Mostly for original posters/chain starters, so we can all find it easier, but it would be helpful if everyone did as well.
6. Have Fun!!!
(Tag list, Starter List, and Where to Direct Questions Under Cut)
Tag list: @tinknevertalks , @theleotorrio, @angsty-violet , @truedairship, @drewsaturday,
@dorothyoz39, @zeldamacgregor, @chartreuseian, @electricrogue, @ladyelysandra,

@lanistas (I know you haven't had time to write, wanted to include you), @crazymcwritesalot (wanted to include you as well)
@silhouetteofafox, @starbuckxcarter, @romanaisalive, @galactic-pirates (not sure if you four are interested, but the more the merrier!)
Additional Info:
Mod: sarcasticsciencefictionwriter
Current Starters: sarcasticsciencefictionwriter, tinknevertalks, zeldamacgregor.
Misc.: Any questions, requests to be removed from the starter list or added to it, can be directed to sarcasticsciencefictionwriter! (If you don't want to directly message, asks, tags, and comment section is welcome)

magnitt: librarian au.
"I've got you something, darling," she tells him, holding out a tattered paper package. He grins, taking it from her with one hand and pulling her close with the other.
"Could it possibly-" He presses his lips to hers briefly, like punctuation. "Be-" She smiles into this kiss, and they break apart with a grin. "A book?"
"I've spent the past three months trying to rehome the Loch Ness Monster, and you think your souvenir is a book?"
"Well, I can certainly hope."
She laughs, strong and clear, full of the sunshine she soaks in on her adventures (he wonders, sometimes, if he radiates the artificial lights he spends so much time under, if he smells of old books when they kiss; she does not seem to mind, in any case, and he loves her all the more for it). "Actually, I've brought two. I found one, and the other-" She hesitates, biting her lip, amusement dancing in her eyes. "Nikola found."
"I don't want that one," he says flatly, but it's hard to stay even the slightest bit annoyed when his wife is finally back in his arms.
"Really, John-" She starts with a sigh, then pauses. Considers. Gives him a smile that, historically, spells trouble for him (and oh, how he loves it). "Very well, then; I'll simply toss it."
He pauses. Considers. She watches him like she can see the tug of war in his head, his dislike of Nikola warring with his urge to protect every book from the bin. Finally, he exhales, shoulders sagging.
"It had better be riveting," he mutters.
"He assures me it is."
"And dare I ask what happened to the package?"
She draws back to study it. The paper is torn at the edges, and there's a rather odd stain across the front. She swallows. "There was a... Slight incident with an army of gremlins on the way back. Nothing to worry about; no one was injured."
Of course, coming from her, that might simply mean no one lost any limbs. Regardless... "I cannot wait to hear all about it." Then she presses her lips to his once more, this time firm and sure, and he mentally amends that: I can wait just a bit.

3, 22 - Helen, 23, and 25 - Nikola. (Because I'm mean on that last one) For the ask game, please! 😁
Hey hey 😊
3. NoTP?
(I feel like you're expecting Magnitt but ho ho that's a no)
Helen/Will hands down. I just don't see it. And I've yet to come across a fic that changes my mind on the idea even though I've tried more than a few in my time.
Also, I can't get behind anything Henry/Helen or Henry/Ashley because in my head that crosses all the family lines.
22. Give us a headcanon for [character]
OK. This is a hard one. I don't know if I have all that many headcannons for Helen... I mean, like, for sure she slept with Nikola. And I think that the reason she kept him around when they were at Oxford was because he was the only one who knew what it meant to be a true outsider. Plus even if he was sort of in love with her back then too, he was the only one who didn't treat her like a 'Lady' which she appreciated.
(I have spent like 20 minutes contemplating my answer to this one and I still have nothing good - sorry!)
23. Has your favourite character/ship changed over time?
Not really? I've always been team Teslen all the way, though I think my love of them and their dynamic has changed over time. Probably because my appreciation of Nikola in particular has changed. I used to just love them because their chemistry was *chefs kiss*, but the older I get and the more I invest in the whole world, they feel like the only viable options for each other to me. I'd write an essay on the topic, but somebody already sort of did that here and that is pretty much all my thoughts offered in a much more coherent way then me babbling about my love for the idiot bbys.
25. What's your least favourite thing [character] said or did?
Hehe... I know you think you're being tricky, but I honestly could give you a list of all the reasons Nikola is a prat! I'll break it into two catagories though...
Least favourite thing the writers did: 'The Five'. Because he was a grade A dick only because I don't think they knew what they wanted to do with his character yet. Which is fair, let's be real.
Least favourite character moment: joining SCIU like the raging idiot he is. I can totally rationalise it as him thinking he'd be her man on the inside, or that he didn't think it was that big of a deal, but also he so clearly just wanted the pay check and the glory (because the idiot bby is in fact a fame whore) and as always, totally failed to think about the bigger consequences. But also I think it's because, fundementally, he is a good person and sees the possibilities before the consequences so he just jumps straight in. Like, in his head working for SCIU would allow him to do these amazing things for the world and that makes it worth it. He didn't see anything beyond that point.

Sanctuary + 3, 6
Thank you! :)
Which scene I would like to erase from the universe and why.
Hmmm. I can't say Ashley's death because as heartbreaking as it was it was kind of a defining moment for Helen (though I do hate fridging and yeah it was a bit of that as well).
I don't have scenes I hate with a passion, not now at least. But I can tell you a scene that pissed me off to no end when it aired because... eh. I was young and way too invested in shipping, I guess? But basically the one in For King and Country in which Helen sleeps with John. I mean, I was a hardcore Teslen shipper (still am but I am not that emotionally invested I guess, like you know ship and let ship and all). But that scene... look. I cannot be objective about it and I am not going to try, sorry. But it did feel like a bit of a setback you know? I know there was still a part of Helen who cared about him and who felt kinda comfortable (despite everything) to go back to him, out of nostalgia or whatever, but... you know. That ship had sailed as far as I am concerned so yeah. I totally get why Magnitt shippers would disagree with me on that but eh *shrugs*
Which is my favorite platonic or familial relationship in this world.
As @tinknevertalks puts it, sanctuhana for the win. But tbh I am more invested in the Henry side of it. Like Helen and Henry (even post Ashley because that would be a whole side of it to unpack which we unfortunately didn't get). But yeah I really like the mother/son kind of dynamic they have and how protective they are of each other <3

Nurturing Innovation: Startup Accelerators and Incubators in the MENA Region
Tumblr media
The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is no longer just known for its rich history, diverse cultures, and oil reserves. It has emerged as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship, fostering a growing ecosystem of startups. To support these startups and help them thrive, the MENA region has witnessed a proliferation of startup accelerators and incubators. In this blog, we will delve into the world of startup accelerators and incubators in the MENA region, exploring their significance, impact, and success stories.
Understanding Accelerators and Incubators
Before we dive into the MENA region's startup accelerators and incubators, let's clarify what these terms mean.
Startup Accelerators: These are typically time-bound programs designed to fast-track the growth of early-stage startups. Accelerators provide mentorship, investment, and resources to help startups refine their business models, develop their products, and gain market traction. The goal is to prepare them for rapid scaling and potential investment from venture capitalists.
Startup Incubators: Incubators, on the other hand, are focused on nurturing very early-stage startups, often at the idea or prototype stage. They provide a supportive environment, offering workspace, mentorship, access to networking opportunities, and often some initial seed funding. Incubators aim to help startups develop a solid foundation for future growth.
The MENA Region: A Rising Star in the Startup Ecosystem
The MENA region is no longer a peripheral player in the global startup scene. Countries like the United Arab Emirates, Israel, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia have emerged as key players in the tech startup space. The region's young, tech-savvy population, growing access to funding, and a strong entrepreneurial spirit have all contributed to this rapid growth.
Why Accelerators and Incubators Matter in the MENA Region
Access to Funding: Access to capital is a significant challenge for startups worldwide. Accelerators and incubators in the MENA region help bridge this gap by providing startups with initial funding to get off the ground. Additionally, they connect startups with potential investors, paving the way for future rounds of funding.
Mentorship and Guidance: Startup founders often lack experience in running a business. These programs offer valuable mentorship and guidance from seasoned entrepreneurs and industry experts, helping startups navigate the complexities of building a successful business.
Networking Opportunities: The networking opportunities provided by accelerators and incubators are invaluable. Entrepreneurs can connect with peers, mentors, and industry leaders, creating a strong support system and fostering collaboration.
Infrastructure and Resources: Many accelerators and incubators provide startups with access to state-of-the-art office spaces, technology resources, and legal and financial support, removing significant barriers to entry.
Startup Accelerators and Incubators in the MENA Region
Flat6Labs (Egypt): Founded in 2011, Flat6Labs is one of the most prominent startup accelerators in Egypt. It has played a crucial role in nurturing Egypt's tech ecosystem. With programs in multiple countries in the MENA region, it has supported over 250 startups.
MAGNiTT (UAE): MAGNiTT is not your typical accelerator or incubator; it's a platform that connects startups with investors and partners. It serves as a comprehensive resource for startups, offering data, insights, and networking opportunities in the MENA region.
Techstars (Jordan): Techstars, a global accelerator program, has a presence in the MENA region through its partnership with Jordan's ZINC incubator. It has accelerated several startups in the region, helping them gain global visibility.
500 Startups (KSA): Saudi Arabia has seen remarkable growth in its startup ecosystem, and 500 Startups has been a significant player. With its presence in Riyadh, it has supported numerous startups in the Kingdom.
Success Stories
Careem (UAE): This ride-hailing giant, often dubbed the "Uber of the Middle East," was accelerated by Wamda X. Careem's success story shows that MENA-based startups can compete on a global scale.
Fetchr (UAE): Fetchr, an on-demand delivery service, was accelerated by Flat6Labs. It has since gained recognition for its innovative approach to solving logistics challenges in the region.
Kitab Sawti (Sweden, MENA): While not a typical MENA startup, Kitab Sawti, a Swedish-based audiobook platform, received acceleration from Wamda X. The company has achieved remarkable success in the MENA market, showcasing the global reach of MENA accelerators.
Challenges and Future Prospects
While the MENA region has made significant strides in fostering a vibrant startup ecosystem, it still faces some challenges. These include political instability in certain areas, legal complexities, and the need for further education and training for entrepreneurs.
However, the future looks promising. With a young population eager to innovate and a growing number of success stories, the region is gaining traction among global investors. Governments in the region are also recognizing the importance of nurturing startups and are taking steps to create more supportive ecosystems.
Conclusion
Startup accelerators and incubators have become integral to the MENA region's burgeoning tech ecosystem. They provide crucial resources, mentorship, and access to funding that startups need to thrive. With their support, startups in the MENA region have the potential to make a global impact, contributing to the region's economic growth and innovation. The success stories of companies like Careem and Fetchr are just the beginning, and the MENA region is poised to play a more significant role in the global startup landscape in the years to come.

helen in a circus au? like, she's the ring leader. go wherever u want with this.
Girl help I tried writing in second person.
-
You’re six years old and full of wonder, and your heart is racing in your chest. You move as quietly as you know how, with slow steps and measured breaths. If you get caught, you’ll be sent back to your room. It’s a nice room-the only one you’ve ever known-but it’s lonely when Mother and Father go away. They’re gone right now, preparing for the show, and they think you’re sound asleep.
Distantly, you hear the crowds, and you think for a moment of trying to sneak into the big tent to see the show. It must be fun; everyone’s so loud, and the laughter carries across the campgrounds. But Father knows all, and Mother sees all. You’d be caught in a second if you went in.
Instead, you weave through the smaller tents and trailers, keeping your head down and your eyes wide open. What you’re looking for, you aren’t sure, but you’ll know it when you see it. You pass the costume trailer, a small empty tent with a horrible smell, and a dozen more before you come to a trailer with a large sign on the door.
Though you’re young, you’re clever, and you’ve always liked to read, so you know precisely what it says: Playroom. Keep out! Well, you think, that’s rather silly. What’s the point of a playroom if you can’t go in it? Shaking your head, looking around once more to make sure you’re alone, you push open the door and step inside. Then, you freeze.
There’s a boy looking back at you with wide, shining eyes, his hair sticking up in all directions. He doesn’t look much older than you, but your wonder is born anew: his nails are nearly as long as his fingers, silver and sharp, and his teeth are pointed and gleaming. Fangs, you think, though you can’t quite remember where you’ve heard the word before. He has fangs.
“Hello,” you say softly, because he looks a little afraid. “I’m Helen. What’s your name?”
“Nikola.” He watches you, and you’re not altogether sure what he’s looking for, but after a few long seconds, he frowns. “Are you one of the bad people?”
“Bad people?”
“Mr. Magnus said the bad people might come and try to take us away.”
It’s funny, hearing someone call your father Mr. Magnus, though you know people do it often. You’re so distracted by it, it takes you a moment to hear the rest of his words. When you do, though, you pause, looking around the small room. Us? Sure enough, three other boys are there, watching you with curiosity and fear. Two of them look normal, but one… One you can hardly see at all, apart from his own eyes. You know he must be there-or else there’s jeans and a faded shirt floating for no reason at all-but you cannot see them.
One of the boys, taller and just a touch more stout, clears his throat. “She’s not one of the bad guys,” he says firmly, and he talks a bit like your father. Like he expects people to listen to him. “She’s too little. And she didn’t know we were here.”
“Are you sure?” The last boy is curled up, arms wrapped around his knees. You think he might be even shorter than you, and he speaks just above a whisper.
You cut in, a bit offended. “I’m not one of the bad guys,” you protest. Then, a bit softer- “Mr. Magnus is my father.”
“Okay!” This is, apparently, good enough for the invisible boy. “I’m Nigel, and that’s James-” He points to the one who first said you weren’t bad. “And that’s John.” The quiet one nods, but says nothing else. “Do you want to play with us?”
You cannot remember the last time you played with anyone but Mother and Father. Have you ever? “Yes!” Then, you look around. “But why would the bad people come get you?”
They all look to James, and he shrugs. “I’m smarter than everyone,” he says, which is really quite rude. You very nearly tell him so, but you do want to hear what he has to say. “And Nikola looks scary. And Nigel can make himself all see-through.”
“And John?” The boy in question withdraws even more into himself.
Nikola huffs. “Johnnyyyy,” He says in a funny way that makes you grin, dragging out each letter so that they sound really long. “Show her.”
John meets your eyes, finally, and there’s a question on his face. You don’t know what it is, but you know you’d like to see whatever it is that makes him different (though you don’t think it could be cooler than fangs), so you nod once, slowly. He nods back, and for a moment, he stays perfectly still. Then-
You blink, mind racing, trying to figure out what just happened. He was across the room, and then he was touching you, and now you’re across the room, and it hasn’t even been a second. How did he-?”
“John can teleport,” James says.
Teleport. That’s a big word, and you’ve never heard it before, but apparently, it means he moves really fast. And it’s-you like it, you realize, grinning as your mind starts to catch up with what happened. You felt weightless, just for a moment, like nothing could hold you back. You felt free.
You like that a lot.
“Again,” you say, and then-belatedly-”Please?”
Something funny crosses John’s face, and you don’t know what it is, though you’ll understand when you’re older. (When you’re thirteen years old and he sees you in a dress for the first time, and turns an odd shade of red. When you’re fifteen and he kisses you, tucked away in a quiet corner as the rain pours down outside. When he’s seventeen and tells you he loves you, and you never want him to leave your side. When you’re twenty-one and he slides a ring on your finger, and tells her about the moment he knew he’d follow you to the ends of the earth: this moment, here and now.)
Then he rests his hands on your arms, closes his eyes, and the two of you disappear, landing at the edge of the campgrounds, surrounded by empty cars. He takes you back, then, and the five of you play together for hours, until exhaustion wins out.
Your parents find you lying on a stuffed animal, your boys sitting all around you, a makeshift guard with paper swords and foam shields.
“Please don’t make her leave,” Nikola says, before you’re even awake enough to speak. Father sighs.
“Helen has to go back to her room now,” he says, but there’s something light in his voice, and you know he isn’t truly angry. That’s good; you always feel so guilty when you make him angry. “But…” He looks at Mother, and the two share one of their looks, the ones that hold smiles and secrets. “I suppose she can come back and play again tomorrow.”
(And so you will, again and again, as the years go by. The five of you become inseparable, even as you grow older and join in the show. Wherever someone sees one, they always see the others, usually led by you-you with your head held high, shoulders squared, ready to take on the world. You’re older now, but still full of wonder, and you hope it never fades.
One day, Father turns to Mother, and they share a special look. “That girl will be the ringmaster one day,” he tells her, and you’ve never felt more proud.
Then, Mother chuckles. “She already is.”)

Sanctuary and / or Stargate SG-1 for the TV series ask :)
Both. Both is good :D. Doing this chronologically.
So, Stargate SG-1:
Favourite character: Sam Carter hands down.
Funniest character: Tie between Jack and Teal'c I guess? Teal'c didn't try to be funny but he was unintentionally funny so yeah.
Best-looking character: Sam again yes this answer is gonna be half Amanda sorry not sorry
3 favourite ships: I watched it when I was young so I wasn't that much into shipping back then... But hmm. Sam/Jack, Sam/Janet and not sure I have a third tbh xD.
Least favourite character: Cameron but it's more of a wrong guy in the wrong place kind of thing. As in you know, him leading the team after O'Neill left when it should have fucking been Sam
Least favourite ship: Sam with whoever guy didn't respect her enough. So mostly Ba'al, Pete and McKay back when he was an ass. I heard he got better in Atlantis but I never watched that beside a few episodes so dunno.
Reason why I watch it: I don't watch it now but when I did I watched it mostly because it was a cool show. Also I kinda bonded with my mother over it so yeah.
Why I started watching it: My mother stumbled over it on tv one day and we were both hooked. This also means that I watched the whole ceremony with Sha're as a very impressionable 7 year old kid but hey I turned up fine so
Sanctuary:
Favourite character: Still not choosing between Helen and Nikola, sorry.
Funniest character: Henry
Best-looking character: I have a thing for goth girls and I traveled half of Europe to see Jon live so... yeah not choosing here either. Perks of being bi :P.
3 favourite ships: Teslen still owns my heart to this day no argument with that. Other than that... Kate/Henry (nothing against Erica though) and hmmm. I know some people who make a good case for Abby/Kate so yeah.
Least favourite character: John though Will is a very close second
Least favourite ship: Helen/Druitt I refuse to call them magnitt
Reason why I watch it: Because you get Amanda being a boss lady, duh xD. But also the way it spoke about accepting others and embracing weirdness and providing a home for everyone who needed that. Plus Teslen plus Nikola in leather though that happened way less times than it should have
Why I started watching it: Which part of Amanda being a boss lady aren't you getting lol. But yeah pretty much. I liked her since I was seven of course I was gonna watch a show she was going to be the lead in :P.
