Helen frowns, pressing the back of her hand to Kate's forehead. "You're warm," she says, trying to keep the concern out of her voice. Kate hates being coddled-so very like Helen in that way-but some coddling may be in order here. She's feverish, and by the look on her face, she may not be hearing half of what Helen says.

"'s just hot in here." Kate's brows furrow.

It's absolutely not-Helen Magnus keeps her house perfectly comfortable, thank you very much-and Helen sighs. "You need to lie down."

"'m fine."

Stubborn, stubborn girl. Helen shakes her head. "This isn't a suggestion. Go lie down, and I'll have my old friend bring you something to drink."

With a huff and an eyeroll that reminds Helen far less of herself and far more of a ghost she cannot name, of blonde hair and ripped jeans and sneaking out of bedroom windows, Kate rises to her feet, only to sway on the spot. Helen catches her, barely, steadying her shoulders.

"Can take care of myself," Kate mutters, but her voice is smaller now, less sure. "Been doing it my whole life."

Oh, how she wishes she had met this young woman sooner, that she could have spared her the pain of fending for herself. But she's here now, so with a reassuring squeeze to her shoulder, she replies, "A useful skill, no doubt, but not one you've any need of employing here. Come. Let's get you to your room."

At last the fight seems to drain from Kate, and she lets Helen guide her through the Sanctuary halls to the messy bedroom Kate has made her own. Poor girl, Helen thinks, as she helps her settle in. So many people willing to help her, and she's still trying to make it alone.

I love the little AU that skinny people live in where they have the same problems as fat people and can relate to the Experience. artists references are only for fat bodies, artists that do draw thin bodies are getting DMs from people going like "omg I'm so happy I discovered your art, it's so rare to find an artist who draws small bodies!!!!! for the first time I see people who look like me 😭😭" skinny people going "omggg I finally found a clothing brand that sells nice dresses in XS, I wish they weren't so so overpriced though" skinny people getting home from the doctor's office and collapsing on the couch to tell their roommate that their doc spent the whole appointment quizzing them about their diet and they were told they need to gain 40 pounds. but the doctor didn't want to check out the weird scraping sound they make when they breathe in, just that they should probably gain weight first. skinny celebrities and influencers spending thousands of dollars getting plastic surgery to transfer fat to their stomachs and jawlines. all the main characters in tv shows are fat. when you watch cartoons as a kid, there's one skinny character, and they're really dumb and annoying and get laughed at by the other characters. they're a loser and never get a boyfriend/girlfriend. the same clothes that are stylish when worn by fat people just get you made fun of. desirable romantic leads and manic pixie dream girls twirl their hair and say "yeeah I've just been fat my whole life, I just never lose weight no matter what I eat hehe" and this is an extremely endearing and attractive trait.

i always feel bad when i see how the point of a lot of saiki's personality traits flew right over the heads of a lot of fans due to him being an unreliable narrator and a tsundere lol.. so a lot of things he says are immediately proved to be untrue and often just him putting up a front, but some people dont pick up on it..

like i see a lot of "haha saiki would never want to watch a romance movie" guys there is an entire chapter (170) dedicated to him being like "i much prefer mysteries to romance stories.." and then immediately becoming absolutely enamored with a romance story.. he was lying, guys, LMAO

less specific ones include:

"i hate children, they annoy me" *goes out of his way to help kids, comfort them, be kind to them, etc.*

"i only use my powers for self gain/my own convenience." "anyway my mama told me to never use my powers selfishly so i always use them to help people and i try my best not to use them for personal gain<3"

"those guys are so annoying, i would never hang out with them willingly." "yeah it took them about two sentences to convince me to go with them. their thoughts seemed like they really wanted me to go, so i did. i didnt want them to be upset. not that i care about them or anything."

(sorry i post about this kind of thing a lot, i just giggle a lot at how the entire manga is so easily misinterpreted and thousands of people have watched the show but didnt pick up on the main characters most defining character traits and frequent bits.. i think there needs to be a masterlist or something disproving all the extremely common misconceptions about saiki k lol)

How a machine with no inflection in its voice can sound so chipper, he has no idea, but it needs to stop. Or else fix him a really big cup of coffee, because good grief.

"Yup."

"I'M. SORRY. SIR. BUT. THE. WORD. YUP. IS. NOT. IN. MY. DATABASE. OF. EMOTIONS. PLEASE. DEFINE."

Chipper and sarcastic. Great; just great. Who programmed this thing, again? "Yup is the emotion I feel when I'm thinking about turning you into scrap metal." He scowls at it, wishing not for the first time that it had come with a working face, rather than a perpetually frozen smile.

"SCRAP. METAL. CANNOT. FIX. YOUR. COFFEE. MACHINE."

It's enough to derail him, at least, and he looks over to see that-yes-his coffee machine, which hasn't been functioning in over a year, leaving him to suffer through instant coffee, is now shiny and repaired. A sight for sore eyes. He casts a suspicious glance at his droid, but of course the face remains impassive.

"How'd you know to do that? I never told you to."

"IT. FALLS. WITHIN. MY. PARAMETERS."

And here it is: the thing they always come back to. Ever since this droid showed up on his doorstep three years ago, rusted and in need of repair, he's never been able to make sense of its purpose. He's asked again and again, but always run into a wall of cool steel.

Now, again, he tries. "And what are your parameters?"

"ANSWERING. THAT. DOES. NOT. FALL. WITHIN. MY. PARAMETERS."

The typical answer. He fights a sigh. "And even though that thing's been broken a year, fixing it just now 'fell within your parameters'?"

"YUP."

He stops. Stares.

"HA. HA. HA." It adds, helpfully.

But that's the thing: it is helpful, so helpful that he's not altogether sure he could do his job without it any more. Especially now, when his joints aren't what they once were, and his back aches if he twists into the odd positions required for machine repair. Whatever this thing is, whatever its purpose, he needs it. And usually, he's even glad it's here.

"ISN'T. THE. WEATHER. WONDERFUL. TODAY?"

Usually.
