THOUGHT GAINED: INFERNAL ENGINES

PROBLEM

The world is ending. You know it, your neighbor knows it, the dealer knows it, the jailer knows it, the king and all his men know it. All one has to do is look around to see it— the future is curdling into something pale and incorporeal. The infernal machine that is this stupid world is going to blow, sooner rather than later. So what are you doing? Why are you still here? Why is anyone still here?

SOLUTION

You are doing the only thing worth doing. You are living. *Why,* you ask? Try and remember now. Remember your mother’s hand on your shoulder. Remember the taste of a fresh catch. Remember the times when you were kind to the dogs in the valley and they did not bare their teeth. Remember the weight of a child on your shoulders. Remember the stars throwing their light against the wall of sodium and smog. Remember singing until your throat was raw. Remember crying just as loudly and publicly, and the gentleness with which someone opened your curled fist and pressed a handkerchief into your palm. Crying, laughing, running, eating, screaming, haunting, loving, fighting, fighting, fighting. The fight fuels you, and you fuel the fight. You run yourself ragged just for a chance to keep running. You never stop. You cannot stop. The world depends on it. *You* are the infernal engine. You are the world. And, simply put: you want to live.

Got an ask to draw when ghoap first started getting into each other, and remembered I answered something like it ages ago... a redraw (+ the more recent 'saying it out loud's: Soap / Ghost)

ghost having a missing tooth. just a lateral incisor, lost it only a few years into the military, never bothered to have it properly replaced. he has a retainer with a fake tooth, sure, but that’s a special occasion sort of thing—because why would he wear something for cosmetic purposes when his face is hidden behind a mask most of the time?

but when he and soap start going out, particularly on leave, ghost suddenly finds himself self-conscious and constantly wearing that retainer. even makes the stupid decision of eating with it in on occasion just because he doesn’t want soap seeing the gap in his smile. which is weird for ghost, because he’s never felt embarrassed by it before—but maybe with soap and his perfect smile, it makes ghost feel like he’s lacking in contrast.

soap finds out on leave, when their departures were staggered and ghost arrived home two days later than soap. he never bothered with the retainer that day, too tired from travel and work, and doesn’t realize it’s missing until he’s pulling off his standard civilian-get-up-surgical-mask and smiling at soap in greeting.

it’s clear that soap notices immediately. his eyes flicker to the smile and a furrow finds his brow as he asked what happened in the past two days he was gone that had ghost missing a tooth.

ghost’s smile fades instantaneously before he ducks his head and mechanically utters out an explanation.

then soap asks to see his smile again. insists until ghost finally offers up a grimace, then contemplates it a moment before deeming it cute, of all things.

it’s only natural from there that soap does anything in his power to make ghost smile, because the missing tooth is something charming in a way soap can’t explain. it’s just so very ghost, and how could soap not love that?

Advice I gave someone today was: 'do it stupid.'

She wants to learn photography. Do it stupid. Take a million photos. Don't think about why they're not good. Enjoy the process of taking photos.

Pick out tge ones you like the most and figure out why you like them. Is it because the subject is centered? Is it because you caught them doing something cool? Is it because the light made cool shadows?

Do it stupid. If you try to do it smart, youll get stuck. If you think too much you'll never get to doing. Do it stupid.

ghostsoap divergent au!! just because!!

ghost, as he’s now called in dauntless, had originally been born into erudite. he’s cold and calculating, logic over emotions, but even still he’d been too abrasive to stay in the quiet environments of a faction centred around intelligence. around genius. that, and he couldn’t wait to get away from his father.

so, when presented with the opportunity, he transfers to dauntless without second thought—and he excels.

soap—his own new name in dauntless—hails from amity. don’t get him wrong, he loves his family, his home faction—but he has too much energy to expel. he needs purpose beyond the peace and tranquility of amity and its community. he needs adventure—so he transfers to dauntless.

and he, too, excels. at the expense of getting on ghost’s nerves, sure, but he does well. incredibly so.

but then soap worms his way past ghost’s defences. learns the man wasn’t dauntless-born like most claim; like most think. learns that despite how he carried himself and despite how tough ghost is on new recruits, he has a soft spot for those that fall behind.

learns ghost’s name is simon after they kiss for the first time.

learns he’s divergent, just like soap—right around the time things are going to shit outside their faction.

and suddenly everything becomes a question of survival in the midst of a love still just blossoming.

Explanation:

This is a reference to the "Don't move"/"Non ti muovere" film's ending (2004). After a death of the main character's mistress he starts seeing her ghost, who follows him💀

I've also attached scheenshots as my inspiration resource.

It didn't probably turn out really nice with perspective, but at least I love the colors.
