WIP-themed Loot box!
Tagged by @bumpyfrog and @magefaery! Thank you so much for the tags!!! I am a bit late, but I had a specific idea for execution and it took me a hot minute haha! I legit haven’t kept track of who has done this and who hasn’t so if you haven’t yet, I tag you!!!!! Yes you!!!! Tag me if/when you do it!!!! It’s super fun!!
So the way the Hour of Magic loot box would work is you have a random chance of getting one of seven different boxes that are based on the different lands of the novel! Try and collect them all!!!
The Correlaine box: A figurine of the goddess Fiern carved from opal, a box of green tea, a bundle of cinnamon sticks, a field guide of edible plants, an emergency flare
The Crestwall box: A figurine of the god Barrick carved from marble, a quill pen and a bottle of black ink, a clam shell, an iron horseshoe, a gold and red pennant with the Crestwall family coat of arms
The New Nobelia Box: A figurine of the deity Vega carved from red granite, a glass shaker of spice mix, a fountain pen, several caffeine patches, a stack of stationary made to look like a patent application form
The Azor Box: A figurine of the goddess Tiberia carved from obsidian, a pair of woolen mittens, a flint firestarter, a whiskey glass, a letter opener made to look like a flaming sword
The Magnolia Box: A figurine of the deity Magnol carved from soapstone, a bag of pot pourri, a box of loose leaf tea, a jar of honey, an oyster shell
The Hamel Box: Figurines of ALL the different deities included in the other boxes, a bag of dark roast coffee beans (labeled ‘godsbrew’ beans), one white tea light
The Blend Box: A small pouch of platinum foxings, a seal and gold sealing wax, rose soap, a stack of chickadee post paper

Can you give some info about the cult in your incident in ashford wip? Who’s in charge of it? :0

WOW thanks tumblr for not notifying me about this wonderful question. i appreciate it!! and i'd love to talk about it.
so the cult (the order of the illuminated) in ashford is mostly based on heaven's gate from the 90s in that it predicted doomsday and did the mass suicide thing. the elders (nine and mouse's parents, actually) are the leaders of the cult, determine the date(s) of doomsday (they got it wrong a couple times), and lead rituals and the like. they've all lived in an underground bunker since around 1990 and are very close and always know everybody's business. in size, there are about 30 people including around 12 children. they dress modestly and believe the same things as heaven's gate, which is essentially that otherworldly beings will rescue them before doomsday and take them to live on another planet (in summation).

Farryn Leshy
Ryn (also Les in my head) is my latest OC and my third Wayfarer MC
Current fc is Bailey Bass, pronouns are ey/em. Ey's an elf (though this isn't canon, ey has pointy teeth bc I believe elves SHOULD).
I'm still figuring out eir's personality and dynamics -- well, at least the more fiddly aspects.
Essentially I wanted a character that fit this sorta persona: the lying liar who lies. Why? Just because ey can, just because it's none of your business.
When ey isn't just saying shit, ey is talking shit. Definitely the cheekiest of my three Wayfarers. And when ey're not doing any of THAT, silence is surprisingly eir go too (ey have to get SOMETHING from grumpy Dad)
I've been trying to balance what I want for eir's personality and em being raised by Cenric. I will say of my three ey is the most loyal to eir mentor, point blank. Like Ryn ended up being more sentimental than I expected and ey miss home a lot (child of the fields), but ey has a lot of genuine love and respect for Cenric. It's more straight forward between them (as opposed to Varyn and Peter or Sero and Izzy). I also think, actually thus far this is true, Farryn is the only one whose loyalty stems from Cenric being Cenric rather than having SOMETHING to belong to (like the other two).
Last fact: Ryn is impulsive and highly adventerous. Tends to be 'let's do this and see where it goes' and at times even 'kill now, ask questions later'.
With every “!!” i get, I’ll introduce you to an OC!

Synopsis:
In a ruined castle deep in the wilderness, there lived a beautiful princess guarded by a ferocious dragon.
Except for the fact that the maiden in the tower was no princess at all, but the dragon’s daughter. Rescued against her will, she is carried off to human lands and given the name Lady Patrice Drake.
Caught between culture shock and grief, she must find a way to navigate her strange new surroundings lest she be drowned under human machinations and politics.
Who among these people are enemies? Who among them are allies? And most importantly, who is she without her mother’s guidance and protection?

OKAY HERE WE GO here's the official final accountability thread for my WIP 🍄 Cavernous 🍄
If all goes well, (and barring final surface level copyedits and proofreading) this will be the last round changes I'm making before publishing. My life is literally in a bunch of cardboard boxes all over the house at the moment as I've just moved across the country so I wanted to make a visual checkpoint to share to keep myself on track in the chaos so that I can finish this sooner rather than later.
This will be my first time self-publishing, and I know there's a learning curve and a lot of work to do still, so I don't have a ballpark release date just yet, but stay tuned and apologies in advance for taking a stop-and-start pace with this one. I'd like for this book to turn out as polished as possible.
My writing partner / editor on this project (i.e. the other half of the KJ moniker) is going to be doing some passes on chapters or parts of chapters I'm having a hard time cracking - mostly dialog reworks. I'm extreeemely excited to see what she cooks up. I won't reblog this every time I finish a chapter, but every once in a while, and if people seem interested I'll elaborate about my process for each bit! Feel free to ask questions! (Or pester me if you notice I've gone a long time without making progress lol)

Alise Foxglove is a master economist and knows that while helping a world recover from a magical upheaval looks really cool for the monster-fighting wardens, or the magical "scientists" and inventors, the world needs someone willing to work behind the scenes to make sure people can afford bread in between surviving monster attacks and your neighbor practice shooting fire from their hands. She worked her way up from a humble accountant to earn the role of the Alliance Land's Master of Coin after writing a 400 page proposal for The Divine Trust, her baby a centralized bank within The Blend, and a stable currency for the Alliance, the Foxing. Now she's at the top of her game with an immortal counterfeiter as her head of Counterfeit Detection (Magical & Alchemical Division) and always rising and grinding. 😎 🥂 I have no idea how global economics works, so if you have any world-building questions about how everything stabilized in a post-Hour world, you'll have to ask Coinmaster Foxglove. :)
Coinmaster Alise Foxglove lay restless in a bed of fine silks and furs.
One does not rebuild an international economy after being thrown into the chaos of magically induced hyper-inflation without developing some kind of mania or chronic insomnia.
Poverty had nearly been eradicated, and a crisis of extraordinary wealth inequality had been avoided.
Avoiding violent disembowelment by a gruesome wave of otherworldly creatures suddenly made manifest in the nearby wilds of many a city, just barely held the number one spot on Alise’s Top Ten List of Concerns About This Magic Thing.

For the character development questions…42 and 52?
042. What is their greatest achievement?
Val: I would say keeping that ridiculous car of theirs alive all on their own. That car needs to see death. It’s clanging and sputtering it’s way to car heaven. But Val keeps it functioning and, in fact, running “fairly” “smoothly” on their own. They love working with their hands, vehicles are up there -- and no one thought they could give that car so many extra years. And they have!
I would also say finishing cosmotolgy school.
Kendis: Making detective. In part because of naysayers, in part because it took a lot of work. It certainly wasn’t a goal they saw in their future (them? A COP? why sera, why. why me, why) but it put her closer to things she wants to do.
052. What is your character’s worst flaw?
Val & Kendis: ... pettyness. lol.
Val: Stats wise, it’s impulsiveness and pessimism. I think that makes sense since for all they act arrogant (and are, genuinely, cocky), low self-esteem is a strong issue for Val. And the combination of that as well as the impulsiveness, can lead them to lashing out when they’re feeling vulnerable. This can lead to awkward situations, them exposing things they’re not ready to expose, and just being hurtful to others.
So, yeah Impulsiveness is definitely the worst flaw because it’s like the foundation of a lot of their ... not so favorable behaviors (selfishness, foot-in-mouth disease, dismissiveness, tempermental, greed, etc.)
Kendis: Stubbornness. It will always be stubbornness. Kendis best and worst trait is always how stubborn they are. Like Val, this feeds / is the foundation of all their other bad traits and habits: perversely headstrong, opinionated to the max, petty/grudge-holding/vindictive, temper. Kendis is Cut Nose Off To Spite Own Face, Bite The Hand That Feeds, Chew Own Limb Off To Keep You From Cutting It First all in one person. A thousand mfers cant tell them nothing.

The rules are to use 15 lines of dialogue or less that capture the vibes or personality of your character. Bonus points for being able to do it with one line, but it’s okay if you need more than one for context.
For this one, we’re doing Will from Freaks Of Preston. I tried to capture both his dramatic and funnier moments, but I’ve come to the realization that this kid is in desperate need of a personality lol

1. “What for?! He doesn’t even love me!” Will rolled up his sleeve, revealing the pale scars that ran across his arm. “I’m his little burden, the curse on his family— Why does he insist on keeping me?!”
2. “I just got you back. I’m not losing you, never again.”
3. He hopped off the bed in a flash, ignoring the pain that shot through his legs, and the spinning in his head.
“Where is he,” Will said, “did he make it—”
“Will, you can’t get up yet!” Sarah pulled him back. “You have to rest.”
4. “You can call me anything, really— except William.” He scrunched his face up. “Or Willy. That just sounds like an old man.”
5. “How can you stand it?!” The boy waved his arms wildly. “They talk all sweet and act like they’re sorry, but they never even liked Jason to begin with. They’re glad he’s dead!”
6. Will grinned. “Is that… disco? The cheesy, seventies disco music that you rolled your eyes at six years ago?”
Jason shoved the CD back onto the shelf, clearing his throat excessively. “You didn’t see that.”
“No, I think I did.”
7. “Pay them no mind,” Vesely said. “They’re going to be bitter. You’re not to blame for it.”
Oh, I know, Will thought, an unamused frown flickering across his face, believe me.
8. Jin poked his shoulder. “So when’s the wedding, huh?”
Will huffed. “I just found out that people can be attractive, I don’t think we’ll get to ‘marriage’ levels for a while.”
9. “Yeah, it sucks to be sick all the time. On the other hand, I haven’t slept this easily in years.”
10. “I only started fighting because you made me. I wasn’t trying to be a hero or a god… I just wanted my family back.”
11. “There they are, the triumphant heroes!” Henry hugged them both over the side of the couch. “You survived your day with that old devil and his family. How do you feel?”
Jason and Will let out a simultaneous “ehhhh” of fatigue.
12. “I know a lot of you are hurt, but we need to get you out of this car in case it collapses. If you can move, I want you to head towards the door in the back. I’ll help any of you who are injured.”
13. “I get it, okay? I’m a filthy fucking Freak with no place in your world, and nothing I do will ever be enough for any of you. I’m sorry you have problems with us, but I really— really— don’t care! There are people up there waiting for us, and I’m gonna make sure they get to see their families again. Can we at least come together on that?!”
14. “I spent so long trying to pretend I was Human, and I hated it. There’s so many amazing things I can do, if I just stop hiding who I am.” Will stared at his hands. “I want to be proud of myself, for once.”
15. “Take whatever you need from me, just leave them alone.”
