These screenshots I took in Blender are the final product of a commission I worked on for over a year, of my client's planet Ayrum. These represent the planet as it appears at the Northern Spring Equinox, at various angles and different times of day. This project had multiple phases and produced many maps and figures, so I'll be making multiple posts about it over the course of multiple days, working from the earliest results up to the images used in these screenshots.
Tumblr media
First, the tectonic history sequence, covering about 600 million years of activity. The colors of continental crust in the gif's top half represent which plate it will belong to in the end, and the colors used in the bottom half represent what plates they belong to at the time
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
With the tectonic history settled, it's easier to determine what the topography should look like. The two greyscale elevation maps start from the lowest trench depth and from sea level respectively, and the color-graded elevation map has dry land differentiated from bodies of water.

Dipping into Blender once again, with some screenshots where I used the color-graded elevation map as the image texture and the greyscale elevation map as the displacement texture, to emphasize the topography. This will be all for today, but there is much more to come. These maps were made for the user @umbrace-ramble, to whom I am very thankful for this commission and all the experience it inspired me to gain. Rendered in Photopea with the aid of Blender, screenshots taken in Blender, November 2022-January 2024

Hhhh I’m sorry I’m not very active here, instead more so on Discord. Which is why I’m announcing that I’m opening a public server soon! It’s partially roleplay, mostly hangout. I can’t spoiler much of it, but I can say that everyone will get a chance to join with their own unique roles!
I’m very excited about this server and I hope everyone who wants to join will enjoy it. Currently we are in need of some server builders, so I’m accepting people to join earlier than usual. If you want to apply just comment under the post.
Oh and, if anyone was wondering, it’s called Harsh Realities. :]

I’ve been writing and revising the same novel for the last eight years.
Sometimes this feels heavy. It’s impossible to struggle with something for so long and not feel discouraged. From draft one to draft now, there has been a sea change. I’m no longer the person I was when I first wrote “Chapter One,” so it often feels like I’m rearranging words written long ago by someone else.
Because I am bringing so many new experiences and memories into it, every character in every scene hits me differently, and I shift the sentences to match.
I do this, because I still love every scene that remains—and every character too.
And the more I think about this, the more this seems like a very small, very personal miracle.
With all that we have weathered in the last eight years, it is easy to see what we have given up, what we once had and what we now miss. We can reach for a memory and want to live inside it—that easier time we’ve lost.
So, how remarkable and how important to find something that I loved then and discover it still present.
This love was there then and it’s still here now—weathering the bumps and bruises right along with me.
So, sweet ones, tell me—if something springs to mind:
What loves have accompanied you through the years?

^ rough sketch idea of the scientist mentioned in this story
[ PREQUEL STORY 1 ] The Creation.
Long ago, there were only 4 different types of people, now, we call them the Elementals.
-There was the water people who, never pushed to be included in other tribes' problems, they were a neutral part. -There was the fire people who were known for their short tempers and ability to take offense to just about anything. they were usually the cause for fights and problems among tribes. -There were the rock people who were just as hard headed as the fire tribe. however, the rock people had a tendency to be quite nice once friends with them. -Lastly, the ice tribe. strangely, they did not have a good relationship with the water tribe. there were many fights between the two as the fire tribes and, sometimes, the rock tribes would provoke them.
One day, a water tribe child would wander out of his tribe land and walk into the fire tribe territory mistakenly. The child was beaten and almost killed by citizens until a government official, a scientist, stopped them and took the child to his lab. The child was locked up and treated as nothing more than a test subject. He was hit with various items and injected with various substances but to no effect. The substances would simple turn into water itself upon coming into contact with the child.
Eventually the scientist had the idea of merging the child's DNA and his very essence, into another Elemental, one nearby in fact. The scientist, having as much power as he did, was permitted to use fire tribe criminals as his test subjects and so use them he did. While the Elemental look like they are just made of their element, there are layers to their bodies. the deeper into the body you go, the more condensed and pure their DNA is so with this uncommon knowledge that the scientist had, he used a flask and a mechanical claw to reach deep into the chest of the water tribe child and his fire tribe test subject. after what seemed like weeks of work and research, a breakthrough was made. The flame and water the scientist had combined chemically had evaporated, no different than all his other attempts, but this one was different. this one was special.
it moved like it was alive.
The scientist scrambled around his lab looking through his notes, thinking back on the expirement and what he did. "What did i do different?" "Was an outside factor included by accident?" he asked himself restlessly. "No. I'm too renowed for that!" "I would never make a mistake like that!" he yelled, slowly losing reason. In his moment of desperation for answers he rushed another test, the result was yet another cloud-like gas that moved so very lifelike. The scientist couldn't wrap his head around it, why was this happening? now, after all the past attempts? Eventually he calmed himself down, we went through all his notes but nothing could've resulted in the life-from he made. he decided to try one more time following what he had done before step-by-step and it resulted in yet another life form. The random success of this gave him an idea. "would it be too much to mass produce these?-" he asked himself. "I would need permission from the general" he said, "i suppose it's a good thing i have proof of my works" he stated, looking back at the 3 lifelike gust of clouds in the testing containers.

Aaand so my fun with digitalising old photographs continues.
Last time I was home, I found about 50 photo negatives 35mm films and a bunch of negatives in format 6x6cm and 6x9cm.
This time I found two more albums with 35mm films.
As for today, I have scanned 6501 pictures since May last year. And so my adventure continues. I don't care much about 60 year old pictures of random sea or forest view, but the ones showing my home city from the past are interesting, and all the pics with people I recognise are precious. Pictures of my great grandmother and her second husband (I knew neither). Pictures of her sister I knew and loved. Pics of my gran in her youth, of her younger brother as a kid. This is real TREASURE.

The next phase of the Ayrum project was climate, which I'll introduce with the resource that made my work possible in the first place: these datasets created by Nikolai Lofving Hersfeldt, who runs WorldBuildingPasta and shared all of this with my client and me via Panoply. These were tremendously helpful and I wouldn't be able to achieve a fraction of the final detail without them.
Tumblr media
My own adjustment to this data begins with Surface Temperature, which came down to correcting the coastlines (I mistakenly sent in a version of the elevation map that resulted in continental shelves appearing above sea level), refining the effects of elevation, and adding a color gradient.
Tumblr media
I was then able to combine this data into Annual Minimum, Average, and Maximum temperature maps, seen above, which was pretty useful too.
Tumblr media
One use for the Annual Average map, for example, was providing a baseline to compare each month's data against, seen in the sequence above.
Tumblr media
And from the Annual Minimum and Maximum maps, I was able to create a map that presents the overall range of temperatures throughout the year, which does a good job of showing just how extreme the conditions are in higher latitudes and further inland.

I'm bored, so I've started writing the entire binary sequence on 26 digits, one on each line of a word document. It will have a total of 67,108,864 lines. I am currently on line 376.

Seven Deadly Sins Costume Designs
Here's the thing. I want to make a series diving into the seven deadly sins, how they apply in our world today, and make some dress designs along the way.
As such, I've been burying myself in research, but it all started here:
youtube
Now that I'm just starting to reach the finishing point on research and script writing, I'm bubbling up with excitement. I'm starting with the sloth dress, and dude.
I'm excited.
But I'm also indecisive on a few of the designs. If you want to help me out and tell me your favorite designs on the sins that I have two designs for, I'd love you forever.
