I have discovered that writing a group where everyone is brains but in wildly different subjects is just how you write the cast of a heist novel

My dear lgbt+ kids,
If you consume a certain type of online content about friendship (often in the form of “10 signs of a fake friend” and similar), you may almost get to the conclusion that anyone who is not your best friend is your enemy - or at the very least, that any friend who doesn’t know *everything* about you is entirely worthless to your life and you would be better off cutting them out.
That’s a pretty radical view of human relationships, and it would ultimately cost you a lot of joyful social interactions if you strictly adhered to it.
Unless you barricade yourself in your room and never leave it (which would be pretty awful for your mental health), you will end up in situations where you have regular interactions with people who are not your best friend ever. The ability to be friendly to those people, to enjoy those connections, isn’t “fake” or “toxic”. It’s an important source of positive social interactions and a valuable tool to fight loneliness.
If you have a constant social circle, these may be the friends (or partners, family members etc) of your friends, those “I’m not directly friends with Rose but I’m friends with Lisa and Lisa is friends with Rose” situations. But even if you do not have a circle like that (because you don’t make friends easily, you have social anxiety etc.), there will most likely be some “casually friendly” people in your life, as these are often simply the people who happen to be at the same place at the same time as you: colleagues, classmates, neighbors, people at places you frequent (employees in stores, patients in group therapy etc.), or even just the guy who waits for the same bus as you do every Monday morning.
These people wouldn’t be the first one you’d call if you need help with a potentially life changing decision. They don’t know all your deepest secrets, fears and desires, they may not even be able to name your favorite color (or hey, maybe not even your name), and they certainly won’t be able to list all your identity labels, political beliefs, medical diagnoses, traumatic experiences and sexual fantasies - but they don’t need to.
It’s wonderful if you have a best friend (or another close relationship) who fulfills that role of being someone you’d trust blindly, someone who knows you inside and out. But not everyone you are friendly with needs to be that for you. There’s enough other roles. Acquaintances, work friends, casual friends, small-talk friends… those roles aren’t worthless. They won’t be the one you call at 3 am after a breakup, but they can inject a bit of joy in your everyday life. They can offer friendly interactions that come with no pressure to go beyond the surface (something that’s valuable in itself! It would be very exhausting if everyone already knew everything about you and every conversation had to be deep and philosophical).
Plus, only knowing each other in one context has its advantages: your best friend may not know anything about the printer issue in your office but your office friend sure does! And if you met someone in a crime novel forum and all you ever talk about is crime novels, is that really negative? Isn’t it beautiful to know someone who shares your passion for that genre and is always happy to talk about it?
Of course an office friend or a crime novel friend can also become a best friend over the years. There are plenty of people who meet in a specific context, bond in that context and gradually develop a relationship out of that context as well. But one-context friends still enrich your life.
Even if that context is purely “we say hi when we see each other at the bus stop”, it’s a positive social interaction - and those will bring color and joy into both of your lives.
With all my love,
Your Tumblr Dad

senku x f!reader. reader has a background in agriculture. reader is referred to as princess in jest and the unpacking of the reason it upsets reader follows. reader and senku are both 25. post canon au where he and the other ishigami village settlers find a small settlement in california. robert is an oc created specifically for the au. wc 1.7k
divider thanks to @/cafekitsune as always
Tumblr media
“You and Gen have a lot in common.”
Snorting at Senku’s words, you dab at the droplets of sweat on your hairline with the back of your gloved hand. He hasn’t been superbly helpful weeding the carrot patch but at least he has been decent company, the two of you working in parallel worlds and occasionally exchanging remarks about what you’re doing. This is generally how things just go when you’re together.
You won’t go so far as to say that you enjoy him, you barely know the man who stepped foot on shores not far from where you are now a little over a month ago, but it’s pleasant to have someone around who will listen to you ramble about whatever has been on your mind. You don’t judge him and he has never judged you, a silent mutual understanding that people will be people, the thread that ties the two of you together.
It doesn’t mean he isn’t observant, though, and he’s all too apt to share said observations with you.
“Why do you say that? Is it because we are both charming, hilarious, and beautiful?”
Senku chuckles while you wipe your free hand on your pants. Very glamorous, you think and laugh to yourself quietly. The sun hangs high enough in the sky you know it’s midday and you offer small waves to everyone who passes by you, smiling big enough people can see it even from a few feet away. You don’t have to do this but you go out of your way to do it, something that always strikes Senku as funny.
“Humble, too.” The scientist remarks and you look up at him, noticing he’s jotting notes away in a leatherbound notebook he swiped from the medical barn.
He has a makeshift ink pen, an invention of his own making, and he’s jotting down thoughts of how to improve the settlement. Watch towers, another well, perhaps mechanized farming equipment to keep you from having to do as much heavy lifting as you do.
“So you agree?” He chuckles again at your words and keeps scribbling, raising his brows. “You know I don’t point out the obvious, princess.”
The recent nickname makes you scoff but your cheeks warm. He heard the village doctor and navigator, two of your closest friends, call you the name in jest and he couldn’t possibly let it go considering what an apt descriptor it is.
“Don’t call me that, it’s bad enough that they do.” Sighing, you reposition your sunhat before leaning down to dig up another weed. “There’s nothing princess-y about me.”
Tossing a carrot down, you decide to rest a moment and sit down next to him in the yellowing grass. The weather is still moderate and pleasant but six weeks from now, it’s likely a small blanket of snow and frost will cover the world and your plants in the process so time is of the essence with the less hearty members of the settlement garden. You feel Senku looking at you but don’t entertain him by glancing back, situating yourself and stretching your legs out in front of you.
“No?” Senku shoots back and you groan, laying back in the grass and closing your eyes. He looks over you and shakes his head, placing the notebook on his thighs where his legs are crossed. “Let’s be honest with ourselves here. If this were thousands of years ago, you’d be in a big tower in a pretty dress waiting for some muscle-brained knight to come and slay a dragon for you.”
You want to be offended but you’re instead curious about what exactly makes him feel that way and how it relates to you and Gen at all.
“What do you mean? I can take care of myself and have managed to do it pretty well so far.”
Senku shakes his head. He can tell you aren’t offended thanks to the lightness in your tone and he appreciates that you don’t read between the lines considering there are none when he comes to him. He says what he means and you listen to it appreciatively.
“I’m not saying you can’t, I’m saying you inspire that kind of action in people.” He shrugs. “Think about the stories I know you used to read. A princess never has to ask for devotion, she simply gets it.”
Raising a brow, he meets your eyes and glances further out in the distance where one of the villagers he brought with him, Ginro, slumps in the fields while pulling weeds. The blonde man keeps glancing in your direction and waving before tilting his face downward to make sure you notice that he’s doing what you asked him to.
“I’ve never seen Ginro work so hard,” the scientist sniffs and you laugh louder than intended, bringing your hand to cover your mouth to stifle the noise.
“Not very fair of you to start with the easy target, Ishigami.”
He snickers and looks across the settlement, seeing if he can spot any of the others he has brought with him that have been more than happy to assist with anything you ask them to. You flash a smile, flutter your lashes if you have to, and shit seems to get done. It’s how you did things before you were petrified too.
“I overheard Hyoga arguing with Robert about being the one to escort you on the next foraging expedition.”
Thinking about the white haired man you feel a little uncertain of yourself and you look away. You find him extremely handsome despite his evasive nature and the two of you have only had a handful of conversations but he’s surprisingly helpful when necessary, you simply go out of your way trying to avoid asking for his help because he makes you nervous. Robert, on the other hand, is an issue that has followed you even thousands of years into the future (pro tip: don’t get petrified and then depetrified near a man harassing you in a club) but he insists on being your personal security whenever he can.
You make a note to genuinely contemplate trying your luck by asking Hyoga personally to accompany you but for now, you turn your attention back to your spiky haired companion.
“No you didn’t. Besides, we haven’t even planned a trip before winter even though we need to make one.”
Senku purses his lips and continues to look around the lands surrounding him.
“When have I ever lied to you?”
Considering his question for a moment, you hum and tilt your head. He hasn’t lied to you but this specific instance feels like a stretch.
“So you heard Big Mouth Bobby mention me and now I’m a princess? Seems like that criteria is a little unfair.”
Senku shifts where he sits and stretches his legs out in front of him to match your position. You shade your eyes from the sun with your palm and look up at him to find he’s glancing over his shoulder at you, shaking his head.
“You seem to think I’m telling you that it’s a bad thing people like and want to be liked by you.”
Shrugging, you settle back against the grass and kick your feet gently. He watches your every move and you feel observed and viewed rather than enjoyed, something about him that always makes you squirm despite yourself.
“Maybe you’re right.”
Senku smiles.
“I’m always right.”
You laugh and shake your head, shutting your eyes to keep from being further intimidated by his weighted glance. If he has any other assessments he’s clearly going to keep them to himself so you press forward, sun warming your face while you speak.
“I don’t get how that relates to me and Gen being similar though. Is he a princess too?”
A chuckle from your companion. At least you can always make him laugh even if you know your other charms won’t work on him. Looks have no effect on Senku nor do fluttering lashes or cute, coy smiles - he judges people off of their character only and you admire the depth it takes for him to do so.
“Oh yeah, that.” He picks his notebook back up and begins scribbling again. “You’re both very persuasive and understand people better than they think.”
Giggling, you sigh contentedly and even Senku finds himself a little bit drawn to the sound. You are charming and sweet and funny and perhaps a bit too honest beneath the slightly self deprecating humor you use to keep people from knowing who you really are. Even Senku can acknowledge all of these things - they’re true, after all. Proven and quantifiable.
“Well, thank you. The power of people skills can never be underestimated in a world where half of the people you meet want to kill you and the other half probably want to kill themselves because we don’t have social media to numb their brains.”
Again with that too honest humor. The scientist shakes his head and scribbles down a doodle for the vision he has for the tower he’s going to build in the coming weeks, halfway between your fields and the little cabin you call home. It’s the perfect position to see the entire settlement and he assumes the only reason you don’t have one yet is that you’ve lacked the people to assist with making it.
He may not be a muscle-brained knight, saving you while you sit forlornly in a tower, but he can be the genius that builds the tower you’ll help create the future society all of you will someday live in from. It’s a far more noble cause if you ask him.
“Keep it up.” He adds simply and you shield your eyes from the sun again, opening them to meet his. You offer a thumbs up and a grin and he shakes his head.
“I am going to tell Gen you called him a princess, though.”
Senku scoffs and leans back, still glancing down at you.
“Well then you’d be lying and it isn’t good to lie, now is it?”
You sit up, ready to argue back and forth but you’re interrupted by Ginro calling your name from a distance and approaching you, three carrots in his fist. Senku rises to standing and reassuringly pats your shoulder with the hand not holding his notebook.
“Looks like your savior is on his way, princess.”
You sigh, shaking your head and waving the scientist goodbye when he parts, watching him leave before plastering on your best persuasive smile and greeting Ginro exuberantly.

Yandere Twilight Headcanons
Tumblr media
Say it with me now: one word, PROTECTIVE. Twilight is the most actively protective member of the Chain by far. Even though the others obviously have their moments, and they’re each strongly protective of you, Twilight is the one who acts on it the most.
He’s like a loyal guard dog(ha) who follows you around whenever you go into town or are just getting stuff like firewood when you’re all camping out. When you’re in town, Twilight doesn’t hesitate to silently intimidate anyone looking to mess with you into hightailing it away from him.
I like to think that the constant Wolfie transformations leave Twilight with some sharper than average fangs and he is totally willing to use them whenever the situation calls for it.
Even if he’s in his human form, he won’t shy away from biting straight through someone’s jugular if need be. He may find mauling someone to death disgusting, but his personal disgust doesn’t mean anything compared to your health and safety.
As such, it goes without saying that whenever battle ensues, you are his top priority. Before he does anything he is making sure that you are kept away from the danger, he doesn’t want a scratch on you.
If you do happen to get injured, suffice it to say Twilight is blocking out whatever else is going on as he cuts through the crowd of monsters to reach you. He doesn’t care if one of the heroes needs help, you got a scraped knee dammit!
Speaking of Wolfie, Twilight abuses the hell out of his wolf form if or when he learns you’re a dog person. He’ll start transforming every other day just to receive affection from you, and whenever you stop he’ll start whining for more.
Wolfie has an easier time scaring off creeps, so that’s always a bonus.
However, if you’re not a dog person and are more of a cat lover, that’s also something he uses to bond with you. Twilight loves picking up dogs and cats like babies, so he’s always down to fawn over any adorable animals you run into.
Though on some days when he feels deprived of affection, he’ll get all pouty and jealous of the animals you love on. Even if he’s rather die than admit it out loud, he’ll still transform just to get a sliver of the attention you give to those animals.
Another thing Twilight does that is similar to a dog is how he’ll constantly be doing things to earn your approval. A day doesn’t go by where he doesn’t offer to do you a favor or insist he handle any heavy lifting you have to do.
And he never asks for a single favor or item or payment in return, all he wants is to have you smile at him as he serves you. If he could, he’d wait on you hand and feet every waking hour of the day, nothing compares to the joy he gets helping you with any task.
Since Twilight is one of the few heroes who has a personal experience specifically with a love interest from another world returning to her world and him never being able to see her again, Twilight has a lot of issues regarding how your original plan involves leaving him them forever.
In fact, once Twilight’s innocent affection for you has progressed into genuinely being in love with you, he’s already painfully aware of what will happen. At first, he tries to move on, telling himself that there’s nothing to be done about it and that it’ll hurt less this time around since he already knows what’s coming.
But then his love for you starts to transform into something even deeper as his sanity slowly starts getting chipped away and he becomes more and more viscous in how protective he is of you. And eventually he decides that he can’t lose you, he can’t go through what he did again.
He’ll do anything to make this world your home.

Amethio x RVT!Reader
Tumblr media
He didn’t know you were part of the RVT at first, mostly because you were making sure the pokemon were okay whilst he, Zir and Conia were attacking the ship, or doing other things that didn’t include battling
The two of you met when you were buying groceries and he was trying to get more clues about the black Rayquaza.
You’ve heard Friede and Roy talking about the Explorers, but you never thought much of it, just another criminal organisation that would probably be caught soon like the other regional teams.
You told Amethio what little you knew about the black Rayquaza, it couldn’t hurt telling a stranger who was also interested in the unnatural coloured Rayquaza the information.
The first time he saw you with the RVT he was shocked. He’d never expect you to work with them, and vice versa, you were shocked that he was part of a criminal organisation. Amethio seemed like such a nice person.
It’d be a lie to say that he still thought highly of you after finding out that you were part of the RVT. He felt so many things. He felt betrayed, mostly as a result of his rivalry with the RVT.
If you and Amethio exchanged numbers, he’d grow more distant and take hours, sometimes even days to reply, despite him replying relatively quickly before finding out you were part of the RVT.
If the two teams battle, he’d target you because he feels so hurt. He knows it isn’t a good thing to take out his emotions on you, the one who unintentionally hurt him, but he can’t help it. He wants you to know what he feels.
If the two of you ever get on speaking terms again, he’ll attack you in battle less, often telling Zir or Conia to go for you whilst he deals with someone else. More specifically Friede. Amethio has a one sided rivalry with the man.
The two of you would later get closer, but Amethio will keep the relationship hidden as he doesn’t know what Hamber or Gibeon would say if he were to date a member of the team he was actively fighting against.
If Sango finds out, Amethio knows he’s as good as dead. She’d tell the other Explorers about it and who knows what they’ll do. Spinel especially who seems to hate him, so he’d strongly advise you to not go anywhere near a pink haired girl that talks in 3rd person.
One shot with no real end as I didn’t know how to end it, but decided to keep it incase anyone wanted to read it, but be warned, it’s unfinished and is somewhat angsty,
“So you’re really with them?” His voice made you feel cold. As if you were a kid and he was a parent who was disappointed.
The tension only grew as you tried to think of a response.
“I didn’t know-“ Your mouth felt dry as you responded, attempting to think of anything to lighten the situation but ultimately failing.
“Don’t lie to me.” Amethio hissed. You could almost hear the hostility and anger shine through his voice. Almost.
Sighing, you lean back onto your bed. Your partner pokemon glanced at you with concern, wondering what was happening as they’ve never seen you this defeated. Giving them a comforting nod you reach a hand out to pet the ‘mon in an attempt to calm down, wondering how you’d get out of this situation and keep what the two of you have.
On the other hand, Amethio is pacing around the room he sleeps in whilst Conia anxiously looks at him, she has never seen her boss acting like this before as he waited for your response. Even Ceruledge knew that something was up by the way Amethio’s eyebrows were slightly furrowed as he paced the room.
He had never let anyone get close to him, so it was a first, but also a first for someone to be in the team he constantly fought against. Everything was so new to him. It was unnatural.
“Well?” He asked, waiting for your response. He hasn’t known you for long, so he doesn’t know what to expect from you, unlike the other admins whose responses he can easily predict.

Friends to Lovers headcanons for Cliff :’) tysm!!
Cliff Burton Friends to Lovers Headcanons
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
————————————————————————
- Credit to the images owners - Please be specific about who is wanted in requests -
Masterlist Navigation
• It’s very easy and tempting to become friends with Cliff despite him looking like the type of person most parents warn their kids from staying away from. Once you look past his music taste and long hair the majority of people would easily be able to see a genuine guy underneath who is pretty hard not to befriend.
• He can usually tell early on into getting to know someone whether he’s going to invest a lot of time in them in the future. He’s good at spotting decent people so once he’s met you and you’ve bonded over something (even if it’s quite small) he’s going to be coming back for another conversation whenever he can.
• Cliff is a great person to talk to, especially if you have a problem that you need to get out. He listens really well and will usually just sit and wait until you’ve said everything you needed to get out before interrupting or offering advice so that he understands the whole situation, and usually his advice is much calmer than the approach you would have originally considered.
• When either of you are having a bad day, you always seem to find comfort in each other. The two of you don’t even need to talk to each other, the comfort he gets from a comfortable silence with you naturally makes him drawn to your company more often.
• It doesn’t really matter who gets feelings for who first since the two of you have grown so close, both emotionally and physically. He starts to do things for you and looking out for you all the time which means when he does start to like you it’s hardly noticeable to you.
• If Cliff were to start to express his feelings for you it would be through lingering touches, which you would notice he wouldn’t do to anyone else. He would also try to be near you as much as possible and would even start to bring up random subjects just as an excuse to talk to you for longer or be alone with you more often.
• The people around you such as friends and the other members of Metallica would absolutely notice that you and Cliff liked each other faster than either of you would. They’re around you so often it would be hard for them not to notice and they may even go out of their way to push you two closer together while also making childish jokes about it.
• When the two of you finally confess to each other it would be in a pretty relaxed and private setting, or at least as private as the two of you can be since Cliff always has the band’s company around. It would be a huge relief to know that you both felt the same way, and he would always appear much happier and expressive towards you afterwards.
• Cliff isn’t the type of person to play with your feelings, especially as he wouldn’t want anyone to do that sort of thing to him. He’d easily stay with you forever if you let him, and he’d calmly help you through all aspects of your life without even needing to ask him.

How is BPD created from a BPD perspective
In my experience BPD is created through fundamental abandonment trauma, particularly with family. I can give an example to show how this functions.
Let’s imagine Betty lives on a planet far away, where it is customary for family members to always shake hands when they see each other. Betty sees other families doing this all the time. She sees her own family members shaking hands with each other. Yet for some reason, none of the family members will shake Betty’s hand. They simply refuse to and ignore her when she tries. Eventually Betty gives up trying.
When you’re a child, you often don’t have enough context for how healthy families work, to know that there’s anything dysfunctional about yours. In this case, the child is more likely to draw the painful conclusion that they are the problem. It’s not the adults for refusing to shake her hand, she must not be worthy of it. She internalizes this shame as a permanent core sense of self when relating to the world. She enters the world through the filter of “I’m not worthy. There is something inherently wrong with me.”
Later in life Betty falls in love and enters a romantic relationship. She finally has someone who will shake her hand upon greeting like she always wanted. Which possibly contradicts her feeling that she is not worthy.
For this reason her ego will hold on to this romantic partner in a way that idolizes them. They’re not just bringing her love, they’re validating her entire sense of selfhood.
One day her partner is in a bad mood and does not shake her hand upon entering their home. For couples that grew up in healthy homes, this would happen from time to time and be forgivable.
For Betty, she is actually reliving her childhood trauma of being denied a handshake. Her partner is not intending to hurt her, and cannot understand the seemingly disproportionate reaction.
Betty’s body is remembering all of the exact same sensations she went through when her own family would refuse to shake her hand. She is actively experiencing a PTSD flashback. On top of that, the experience is validating her core sense of shame and unworthiness.
Someone she once saw as someone totally different from those who betrayed her, is now acting the same way. To Betty, she feels like she cannot escape this pattern, because deep down, she is not worthy of having her hand shook.
Betty is in so much emotional turmoil during this flashback that she says angry and somewhat hurtful things to her partner. Her thoughts are racing and she feels like a hurt child again. In the moment, she feels that she is doing what she can to reveal this deep seated pain to her partner, which is so painful that it comes out laced with anger and betrayal that is not solely from this moment, but decades deep. She isn’t just speaking to her partner in this moment, she is speaking to her family members who neglected and abandoned her.
Betty tells her partner she doesn’t want to speak to them anymore. Betty does not feel she is worthy of having her needs met, so she has to find another way to get them met. By pushing her partner away, part of her hopes that they will “realize” the truth of her pain and validate it. But her partner doesn’t understand why she is having such a strong reaction.
Eventually the PTSD flashback will fade away and for Betty it will feel like she is coming down off of a bad drug mixed with an angry panic attack. and Betty’s rational mind will start to see the situation as it is. For a BPD person an argument can feel like waking up with a bad hangover and seeing you texted your ex, but worse. It’s waking up to reality and seeing you have said things you know are unreasonable and pushed away the one person who showed you love.
The truth of BPD is that to an outsider, our behavior may seem unreasonable and difficult. But to that person, there are many layers of trauma and context that have led to these specific rejections being profoundly painful, especially when coming from someone you love.

Linked Universe as Gods (probably done before but this is my take).
Time: God of Reality
-The father figure.
-Time itself is a concept made up by humans, his real title is the God of Reality, humans are too stupid to figure it out though. They tried to explain his confusing abilities by just saying “he’s the god of the clock and he messes with time, that’s why his powers are so confusing”.
-This isn’t the truth, he actually controls the fabric of reality itself and keeps it balanced by doing stuff like creating borders between worlds and making sure things are working how they should.
-For example: if a huge piece of land got destroyed people would pray that he rewind the time in that specific area so that they could live there again. He can’t actually undo what has been done, but bending reality just a smidge doesn’t hurt. Unfortunately, mortals don’t know that is what he is actually doing and instead think he is rewinding the clock. Because of this, people got confused and labeled him as Time.
-He doesn’t use his abilities often and prefers to sit back and watch his brothers make a mess that he’ll inevitably have to pick up.
-Is, of course, the dad of the group.
-They’re actually all brothers but he’s the oldest, has a dad voice, scolds them often, and is literally called Time by the people. No way his brothers don’t call him Old Man!
-Sometimes if a mortal gets on his nerves he’ll mess with their vision and the colors they see, he may have accidentally caused a few people to go insane because of this.
-He’s sort of like the main god and the one people pray to the most often or refer to when they’re not talking about a specific thing. It’s kinda like the Hylia vs the three goddesses situation where they usually refer to Hylia yet know of the other three. They may say “Oh Hylia!” when startled but when they say are about to take a test they’d say “Nayru, grant me your wisdom” or something. Kinda like that.
-Behind his closed eye is a sight incomprehensible to the human mind, hence why he keeps it closed.
-He collaborates with everyone, as all their jobs are somehow linked to reality.
Twilight: God of Other Worlds
-Lovely piece of himbo.
-Time may create borders for other worlds, but Twilight enforces them.
-After an event where the twilight leaked into this plane, people mistook yet another god’s job as something else, meaning he ended up being called the God of the Twilight
-He is relatively unknown outside of the twilight event as his job doesn’t seem to effect mortals day to day lives (it does, without him the world’s barriers would shatter and let all sorts of creatures roam), thus he is prayed to the least, except for the Twili who absolutely worship him.
-He’s the protective big brother type figure, whenever Time is not cleaning up after the children it is him and Sky, who is the other big brother figure.
-He worries a lot over the others, especially Wild, who has a lot of issues I’ll be getting into.
-If he has no duties to tend to he is hovering over his brothers and asking if their alright or need anything. He is fiercely protective over them and whenever a mortal insults someone in The Chain or somehow causes them harm- you bet he is on their case.
-Due to events with the Twilight Realm he has a distinct wolflike form that can either be otherworldly looking Wolfie or just like regular Wolfie. Some of the others like to cuddle with him when he’s in that form (not that they don’t cuddle enough as it is).
-He only really collaborates with Time, none of the others unless it’s an emergency like the Twili event.
Warriors: God of War
-He should honestly be called God of Bias.
-His powers range from light control over soldiers to complete and utter sway in how a battle will end up.
-He is often prayed to by Kings, warlords, and generals, all of which are doing something for power or wealth.
-Warriors often completely ignores their gifts and prayers and prefers to answer to the common soldier or peasants that need a family member to return safe or for their home to still stand once the enemy takes all. This causes mortals quite a bit confusion in what offerings he takes as he seems to have no response towards monarch’s lavish sacrifices
-Soldiers often took to calling him “the God of us Warriors”, and he adopted the nickname Warriors lovingly.
-Despite being the God of War, he very rarely gets involved in the actual full scale fighting, when he does however… an entire army could be wiped out by the other within an instant, hence why rulers continue to plead towards him despite his infrequent answers.
-Other than just being an all around good guy, the other reason he prefers to not get involved with wars is to protect his fellow gods. People praying for their battle wounds to disappear greatly takes up Rulie’s time, Sky’s mailbox is already stuffed enough and he doesn’t need the plethora of messages filled with grief and mourning, and tearing apart the land for one’s own selfish desires is not doing wonders for Wild at the moment.
-He is said to be one of the most attractive gods, making him a popular topic among bars. Sometimes he’ll go down to earth disguised just to get in on gossip. There was one incident where the people there found out who he was and reported he did indeed look very beautiful. As a god, Warriors finds this hilarious.
-He is totally the mix of the unconcerned big brother and the cool uncle (though if we’re being honest he acts more like a cool aunt than a cool uncle).
-He often needs or has to give help to pretty much everyone, including Time as always and Twilight in specific scenarios.
Wind: God of the Wind
-Little man.
-Pretty young by god standards.
-He controls the winds and the currents they follow, he can also summon stuff like storms and tornadoes for example.
-He wanted to be called Breeze but people ended up calling him his normal god title without even knowing it, boring if you asked him
-Sailors and pirates pray to him a lot, people interested in war efforts also appeal to him for oversea battles. But Wind, while looking up to Time, also looks up to and is more inclined to go along with whatever Warriors’ standpoint is, so he completely ignores them and lets the wind have its own fun. Sometimes he’ll personally screw with armadas and battleships for the heck of it.
-He adores the concept of pirates and desperately wants to be one.
-He was declared (along with some of the others like Wild and Hyrule for example) too young and too brash to go down and pretend to be a mortal without heavy supervision.
-Despite this, he has totally snuck out and joined a pirate crew multiple times, and somehow let it slip to the pirates multiple times that he was, in fact, a god.
-This has gotten him in deep water before but he continues doing it for fun. He has even pulled more adventurous and fun loving gods like Wild and Hyrule down with him, they’ve been found out as gods at least once doing this and were forced to retreat before something bad happened (specifically to Wild). Every time they’ve gotten caught by their fellow gods and got into even worse trouble.
-He often cooperates with Wild for his control over birds and the ocean, Warriors because of oversea battles, and Hyrule to keep magic in the air.
Four: God of Minerals
-Even littler man.
-Basically has control over stone and gems, hence his name.
-It’s more powerful than it seems, as the planet people stand on is just one giant rock, meaning if he really wanted to he could just grow spikes everywhere and kill everyone (he may have gotten mad at one particularly cruel noble and crystallized his entire family but we don’t talk about that-)
-He is commonly prayed to by miners and monarchs seeking riches. Occasionally he’ll get a smith’s prayers, as the god has dabbled in the smithing business as well, so they also beg of him.
-Mortals were once again confused with him. At first they called him the God of Mining or God of Caves, as praying to him would net them more riches. Then the whole crystalized noble family thing happened and people begun to rethink how they perceived the god.
-Some cultists, who thought all the gods were bad, looked at this event and said that the god was too dangerous. They did a massive and costly ritual that forcibly summoned Four, their goal being to greatly diminish his power and then kill him. Luckily, Twilight, ever the protective brother, interrupted them and ruthlessly slaughtered the cultists.
-The ritual was incomplete, instead of drastically weakening the god it split him apart, meaning he had four halves that could merge into one, the colors!
-It was all very confusing and distressing when Twilight brought him back in four pieces, but they eventually figured out what was happening and how to get him to merge. Time offered to fix him but Four declined, him both merged and split preferred this and saw it as a strength (plus, his four halves were like four new brothers that they all already knew!).
-Sometimes he’ll split so he can do more work in multiple areas at once, earning the now colorfully clad god the name Four by mortals.
-Green, Blue, Red, and Vio are not as powerful split, they are still immortal and capable of great damage alone but it isn’t enough to destroy the planet like they usually could.
-The colors usually don’t touch down on Earth without fusing first, as it is more dangerous and their brothers would never allow it. They also don’t have a larger, godlike form, they only have it when merged, it’s another reason they can’t touch down without being whole.
-Four is particularly interested in the little minish civilizations that plodded their little claws along his dirt. He asked Hyrule to help him perfect a minish form in his likeness so he could be among the little creatures.
-While alone Vio briefly dabbled in the study of dark magics after talking to Hyrule and Legend about it, he tried a spell out on a big mirror and accidentally summoned a portal that brought forth a shadow version of a non split Four. The mirror then proceeded to shatter from the force of the magic trapping the being in their world.
-Shadow! Shadow doesn’t have any godlike powers or a larger form, but he does have all of his normal abilities, and he is a shadow of a god so he has immortality and stuff. Vio and him are great friends and the other colors and gods get along with him well enough. The guy usually hangs with the mischief makers like Wind and Wild while nagging the colors whenever they aren’t merged constantly, especially Vio. Even when they are merged Shadow is all over them.
-Twilight was pretty mad about the whole thing because Shadow is from another realm and shouldn’t even be allowed in their godly domain, but the others practically begged the deity to let Shadow stay, and he unwillingly obliged (the puppy dog eyes got him). Things are a bit tense between Shadow and Twilight, but they are working on it.
-Let’s just say Hyrule banned him off of spells after Vio somehow managed to accidentally summon a shadow version of his merged self, a welcome shadow, yes, but they don’t all need an accidentally summoned shadow that are almost but not quite gods.
-Four usually collaborates with Warriors for materials for weapons, Wild who has dominion over everything that lays across the rock he controls, and Hyrule to keep magic in the ground.
Wild: God of the Wilds
-Definition: Sweet, but feral.
-Wild has control of, well, the wilds: plants, animals, crops, and the entire ocean and every horrific creature that’s in it.
-Time is the main god, but Wild is considered to be the one most commonly prayed to and given gifts to by the most people. Royals, soldiers, generals, nobles, and peasants all need food, sailors and pirates need to travel the ocean, explorers need the wilderness to agree with them, and pretty much everyone everywhere doesn’t want to be attacked by animals or afflicted by disease.
-That’s another thing, his power includes the ability grow, to force any kind of cell reproduction. He can essentially make it ten times as likely to pull yourself out of a deadly disease (even when no one in this time period knows what cells are).
-He is actually the one who would most likely go down in a one on one fight as he has been significantly weakened. People constantly harming the environment and abusing the life it holds has greatly diminished his physical ability, so much so he can’t walk right in a physical form.
-Whenever a great event that destroys a lot of plant life, kills a bunch of animals, or messes with the ocean happens a new burn wound will appear on his body. Even after he helps the land recover the wound stays and ultimately scars, they’re permanent. The injuries cause intense headaches and amnesia, he has a hard time remembering things and is often confused on where he is or who the people he’s with are (this is just to bring the amnesia and scar thing into a world where they are gods in a way that makes sense.)
-His brothers freak the freak out every time it happens and go into panic mode. They were in an inconsolable state the first time it happened, a blind rage. Their screams of fury and vengeance could be heard rattling the Earth as each of their dominions began to crack (like for example: the winds would begin blowing savagely from Wind’s anguish, the ground would begin to quake from Four’s fury, barriers keeping realities apart would start to wobble and break at Twilight’s crave for retribution).
-Let’s just say anyone who is responsible for a new burn doesn’t make it out… Not that they’re dead! They’re just being tortured for eternity…
-Wild is a gremlin and will often defy the orders of the Gods and go to Earth to play in the trees and grasses. He also likes to hang out with spirits/creatures like Korok’s, Kikwi’s or The Lord of the Mountain because all of their appearances and or connections to him greatly peak his interest.
-His injuries caused his brain to grow scrambled, he acts very childlike, loses focus often, and wanders around lost a lot of the time. (This just serves to make his brothers even more panicked when he’s wandered off to who knows where).
-He gets relief from their constant eyes whenever Wind or Hyrule pulls him down to Earth to do stuff (until they’re ultimately caught and punished by being squished in the cuddle pile).
-He often cooperates with Wind for the birds and sailors, Four because most of his stuff relies on the rock and dirt beneath it all, Warriors who keeps the devastation at bay, and Hyrule to keep magic in nature (and because he wants to learn about the magic critters).
Legend: God of Prophecy
-Touch-starved idiot who refuses to admit he’s touch-starved.
-He’s technically the God of Dreams who just so happens to be able to see in the future, but after an incident involving a powerful, almost godlike being known as the Windfish that may have messed with his power and brain, he prefers God of Prophecy now, meaning he was more than happy to accept the name Legend from the people.
-He can will himself to appear into the minds of those asleep, from there he can give them predictions of the future. He also occasionally gives general advice but he isn’t that good at it and often just offends whoever he is speaking to.
-He is the god that is depicted the most accurately in paintings as he is commonly seen in people’s dreams. The others to be most accurately represented are Wild, Wind, and Hyrule, but that’s because they’ve been caught so many times. And it’s only their mortal forms accurately depicted, not their true ones, Legend has both of his forms being depicted accurately.
-Pretty much anyone seeking guidance will pray to him, though it is likely he only appears to those who actually need it, or those that he deems needs a good slapping to the face.
-His schedule gets pretty full during wartime, which he despises because he has to hang out with Warriors and Warriors is the WORST.
-He will sometimes scour the future to see if he can prevent any major events that may harm the land and, in return, his brother.
-He is very negative about his powers and god status- especially after the Windfish- but when asked if he’d give it up he’d say “You’d think these idiots would let me leave?” Which translates to “And leave my brothers? Not for the world.”
-He occasionally goes down to dance and sing among people, he finds festivities somewhat fun and tries to inconspicuously introduce a few to his brothers so they can all do them together (he is almost always called out by Warriors or Wind, they all end up playing card games until someone gets frustrated or Sky deems it nap time and flops onto his closest victim brother).
-He made friends with the mortal Ravio, our lovable scammer who cosplays as a purple bunny, along with his weirdly shaped bird, Sheerow. Ravio doesn’t yet know his new friend a god, but he does know Legend has incredible power after the god helped save him and his wares, the bunny admired him and started calling him “Mr. Hero”.
-Legend sheepishly asked Hyrule to help him make a magical item that would let him turn into a bunny, he refused to tell the magic god what it was for. He also neglects to tell Ravio, who doesn’t know it’s Legend getting all the snuggles and love from within his lap.
-He often cooperates with Warriors for wartime and Sky because of the lovesick goons that take up way too much of their time.
Hyrule: God of Magic
-Sweet tooth.
-Any and all things magic, whether it be the faint, unnoticeable pulsing in the ground or great, electric staffs capable of immense destruction, it all falls under his control.
-He likes to dwell with magic creatures and spirits, his favorite being fairies. He liked them so much that he created a fairy form when he was younger (he has gotten stuck in a bottle and has been forced to reveal himself as a being of great power to escape so many times).
-His first few times dabbling in the lives of mortals was at a time where people weren’t as knowledgeable on magic. To them it seemed that his power spread throughout everything! Especially in the Kingdom Hyrule (where fairies frequented), thus, he was named Hyrule. Of course it was later discovered that he was actually the God of Magic, but the cute nicknames like Rule, Rules, and Rulie stuck so much so that the rest of the boys never really stopped calling him Hyrule, even when the mortals moved onto Magic.
-He is often prayed to by magic users, wanting to learn or gain power from him, and explorers, hoping to find powerful artifacts or new and exciting magical creatures.
-His domain also blankets potions, meaning he is often seen as some sort of god of healing which fills his mailbox up during wartime. He isn’t really, magic just sometimes falls under healing categories as well. Wild is closer to a healing god than him for his ability to decimate disease.
-Hyrule goes down to Earth the most, to explore and wander. If he wasn’t so concerned over Wild he would bring him for his longer explorations, instead they only stay out for a few days when together.
-Rulie gets a lot of people praying to him over the wrong things as they don’t know how magic works.
-There are so many joking prayers (that people don’t realize are also sent to their gods along with the genuine ones) for him that he finally lost his cool, he brought down massive lighting strikes in front of every castle in every kingdom as a warning to STOP SENDING HIM FAKES!
-He collaborates with Wars during wartime, Legend to help push his future sight further with magic, and Four, Wild, and Wind to keep the magic everywhere alive and balanced.
Sky: God of Emotion
-The snuggle bug.
-He’s only called Sky because there is a saying that when you look up and stare past a rainbow’s alluring visage you can see his face smiling (you can’t, but the nickname was cute so he took it).
-His power may not sound strong at first but if he really wanted to he could manipulate the entire world, both animals and sentients alike, to bow at his feet. He would never, but the possibility counts.
-He does his best to wrangle back wars started over emotions and keep things at a balanced peace, his influence can only go so far however and once something happens that’s it, no love can stop the armada heading to the zora domain.
-He is primarily prayed to by the Gerudo who wish to find a loving husband. In fact, he is mistaken for a love god often. He gets SO many infatuated prayers of hopes for blossoming love, enough to be ahead of both Time and Wild in the ‘most prayers department’ if the gods were to consider them all serious ones.
-The amount of times he has heard his name screamed, looked at what was happening, and saw something not appropriate is a billion times too many and has traumatized him in some capacity.
-Unlike Hyrule he has never gotten mad about it even if his situation is arguably worse. How can he ever get mad at mortals? They’re so cute! That didn’t mean he didn’t get tired of it though, he was plenty done with the lovesick prayers.
-He favors the gorons as they never really stuff his mailbox full of love letters (he also doesn’t have any idea if they fall in love or how they repopulate- which is good! He doesn’t want to ever know, he has seen too much as it is).
-He sometimes slacks on his job and lets his head drift among the clouds before being shaken awake by one of his brothers saying he is slacking and that he’ll get no cuddle time if he sleeps through his work.
-He’s totally the soft teddy bear brother while also sorta being a mom friend. He will give his brothers all the snuggles (and refuse to let them go) in the world while also being worried sick over their well being.
-He has literally told Wind to go to timeout before, isn’t that the most mom thing ever?
-He needs help from Warriors to keep kingdom relations in check and with Legend to keep whoever the dream god is visiting calm during whatever offensive bull Legend is going to spew about them to their face.

hi!!
for context, i was raised baptist, im queer, my mother converted in her late 20s i believe? and my father was raised strictly baptist as well. my mom has been listening to sermons on youtube obsessively, and my father will lose his mind if you (collective) say ANYTHING that has even the slightest chance of questioning the bible in any way. i’m closer with my mom than my dad, we both have adhd and im autistic, my dad is emotionally and verbally abusive.
i started questioning pretty much everything since mid 2020 ish??, and i just started accepting the idea that my parents would probably disown me, or at the very least ground me until they’re dead, if they knew anything about me that’s not an ✨image i’ve made specifically for them✨. (my main spotify acc has seen so many mental breakdowns it’s not even funny at this point😐)
anyways i just was wondering if there’s a Specific Reason i’ve been really really drawn to catholicism, catholic guilt, and really anything regarding that? it’s just been like A Thing for me especially really recently and i’m just always sitting there like “why tf do i feel like i have catholic guilt i’ve only stepped foot in a catholic church one single time and it was for a craft show????”
if there’s no specific answer that’s totally cool i just thought i’d try to ask someone who seems to know what they’re talking about bc ive been thinking about it a LOT recently
(i also feel like im letting down my grandma, she was the sweetest lady and she absolutely made my childhood so much better and im so grateful for her. she was pretty much the backbone of her church, she died seven years ago and i just feel like if she saw me now she wouldn’t recognize me even if she had every form of proof in the world it was me. i don’t know if she would even accept i was her grandkid at this point.)
It’s so great that you are giving yourself room to become more than what others expect you to be. We all deserve that. And it takes courage to create space for yourself, especially in a worldview that tends to reduce our self image.
I am so sorry that you are dealing with an abusive situation. Your safety is important and you deserve to have a healthy support system.
I think that the idea of “Catholic guilt” is a more popular trope than guilt from Protestant traditions. I see it mentioned more in personal conversations and in books, TV, and movies. It absolutely makes sense that this idea would resonate with you.
It can be helpful to study other traditions to give you context for your own experience, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to claim something from another religious tradition as your own. It doesn’t sound like that’s what you’re doing, I just try to be careful about stuff like that.
I was also raised in a Protestant faith, but I had Catholic friends and attended Mass at several points in my life. When I was still a believer, it seemed like there was a great chasm between these belief systems. But now that I have some distance from my former faith, I see that they have more similarities than differences. Shame and guilt run through them both. There’s guilt about familial obligations, Jesus’ death, and “sinful” actions. (I personally think that sin is just one god’s opinion and it matters more that we try to treat each other well than follow a non-negotiable rulebook.)
It may not be possible to be totally open now now, but I believe it will be in the future. I didn’t share my doubts when I was still dependent on my parents and it felt awful at the time to keep anything private. Because it felt like privacy implied guilt. But now I am grateful to my past self for waiting until I felt secure enough to share my doubts. I found people who felt safe and confided in them. I built relationships based on mutual respect and informed choices, which hadn't felt possible before.
I still have distance with some of my religious family members. But some of my more progressive family members and I have made a lot of progress in understanding each other. Love can overcome doctrine in many relationships, but not others. It’s a difficult reality to face, especially when you don’t have the opportunity to communicate with them. I know that I had to grieve the people I’d lost and the idea that I would see them in heaven. But there are people in this world who will understand you, support you, and hope for you to have a wonderful and fulfilling life that allows you to grow beyond their expectations. And it sounds like you already are that kind of person for yourself, and that is an impressive accomplishment in its own right.

Communication Prompts 💬
A: Two very close friends have a language barrier. It never stops them from causing mischief together.
B: Two enemies have a language barrier. Just because they don’t speak the same language doesn’t mean they don’t understand the other person sucks.
C: Characters are frequently confused by one of the group members' use of regional-specific phrases. EX: Like a person from the Southern United States saying, “Bless your heart.”
D: Two characters come into a low stakes conflict when one prefers calling and one prefers texting.
E: Two characters need a way to speak to each other without being obvious. So they decide to communicate through bird calls.
F: A group of characters make up a language together so they can communicate in secret.
More Undercut
G: A habitual liar is cursed to tell no lies.
H: When a character goes missing, their friends leave a new voicemail daily telling them what they're up to. They hope that they'll get to listen to them someday.
I: A character anonymously sends love letters to their romantic interest. What they don’t know is that there love interest recognizes the handwriting.
J: A character keeps a journal during a bad time in their life. When better days come to pass they end up burning it to symbolize that period in their life is over now.
K: A mind reader discovers that two characters can speak telepathically.
L: A blunt character is put in a situation where their life is on the line if they don’t successfully lie.
M: A character calls their friend/lover a nickname that is such an inside joke it’s ineligible to anyone else.
N: An immortal character has a very Victorian Era way of speaking. This contrasts the rest of the cast who speaks in a modern way.
O: A character only communicates through professional sounding emails. Even if they’re planning a day at the water park.
P: When a character dies, their closest loved one starts writing letters to leave on their grave.
Q: Two characters can speak to each other through touch. They tap each other’s hand if something about a situation is off, or lightly step on each other’s foot if they believe someone is lying.
R: A character who can’t or doesn’t like to speak communicates through their fashion choices. EX: Wearing a red bracelet means they’re upset and want to be left alone. While wearing a blue bracelet means they’re upset and want to talk to someone. Wearing a green bracelet means they’re in a great mood and want to spend time with their friends.
S: A character doesn’t know how to express their feelings when they’re upset. So they begin writing letters to themselves that their friend/lover eventually stumbles across.
T: A character agrees to teach another character their first language if the other character teaches them their first language in return.
U: A character tries to communicate a hidden message to their team in the form of song.
V: A character never picks up their phone. Unless that one specific person calls. Then they’ll pick up on the first ring.
W: Their worst enemy finds a characters very personal journal. Surprisingly, the enemy decides to not read it and respect their privacy.
X: A character buys a communication device for another so they can stay in touch.
Y: A very old immortal character has letters written by people a thousand years ago. They like to look back on them and reminiscence.
Z: A mentor character always leaves encouraging sticky notes on their mentees desk.

Chapter 21 - I Settle My Tab
Theme of the day: Family
Kind of the perfect theme for this chapter, because there’s so many layers and different versions of family that appears (I can already tell this will be a long post lol). There’s the gods’ version of family, found family between the trio, Sally and Percy, and the Jackson household as a whole. Since it was very brief, I’ll start with the trio and how close-knit the three became. Percy says a line about how hard it was to send them away to CHB after all they had gone through together and it makes me so soft,,,, they’ve been through so much in those ten days, arguments, monster battles, traumatic experiences, but they ALWAYS had each other’s backs. They formed an unbreakable bond that carries over this series and beyond 🥺
The gods are a bit strange to analyze in terms of family, because it’s such a loose concept for them, but they also understand it in different ways than mortals. Like Zeus and Hera are siblings but they’re married. Kronos ate his children so they wouldn’t usurp him. Hades is exiled from Olympus just bc he got the short end of the stick. Gods and demigods call each other cousin and uncle and such but it’s really just a title. It’s strictly blood relations and obligations and not really about bonds between two people. Zeus says “for the sake of peace in the family, I shall let you live” like ok Zeus. You just accused a child of stealing your stuff, sent him on a dangerous quest to get it back, and then you say you did me a favor ig so I’ll let you live 🙄For the sake of peace in the family. The definition of someone who cares less about family and more about appearances.
I think the only god who truly has a holistic sense of family is Hestia, and interestingly the hearth is mentioned a few times in the chapter. There’s a huge hearth in the gods’ throne room and Percy talks about how he can hear the fire crackle and feel the warmth from it. I could probably go on a whole rant about Hestia and her representing the concept of home and her leaving the Olympians but that’s a talk for another book lol. In this instance, I’d like to think that Hestia is quietly supporting Percy here, and not out of some sense of duty or obligation as a “family” member, but because she actually cares.
It’s interesting how Percy knows exactly how to handle Zeus and Poseidon. He respectfully walks up to Poseidon and greets him first, and remains silent for most of the scene unless he’s addressed. When Zeus grumbles about not being greeted first, Percy doesn’t react, likely as a learned trait from all the strict adults and bullies he’s dealt with all his life. Percy specifically says he kept his head down and waited. He knows that this is either Zeus egging him on or just him complaining to complain. Reacting would make the situation worse. Like Poseidon said, obedience doesn’t come naturally to him, so this would be something Percy has learned, but part of it is probably also self preservation lmao. It’s a little sad that Percy knows what he should do in this situation, and it’s also a little jarring considering how much attitude he’s shown other gods.
Now onto Poseidon and Percy. There’s a moment when they meet where they size each other up, not knowing what to think of the other, bc although they’re father and son they don’t actually know each other. Poseidon has been watching Percy all his life, but Percy also represents a broken pact for Poseidon, something unforgivable. He calls Percy is wrongdoing and a mistake. Well he doesn’t specifically call Percy that, just the very act of the affair with Sally, but it still insinuates how Percy shouldn’t have been born. Not a great thing to hear whether you’re a child or not. I get the sense that Poseidon doesn’t regret the affair, but feels bad for the consequences it caused, i.e. Percy being the demigod of the Great Prophecy and what that entails for both Percy and Olympus. And for Percy, Poseidon is his non-present father, someone he thought had died up until a month ago, only to learn that he chose not to be part of his life. But Poseidon also helped Percy on his quest when he asked for it. His very voice stirred warm memories in Percy he associated with his father. And in the end Percy is also glad to have a frank father who doesn’t give empty apologies or promises, Poseidon doesn’t pretend if he cares about Percy or not. Which in the long run is so much better for their relationship, because it gives a more solid base for them to become acquainted with one another. In a sense, it’s kind of a clean slate; they’re not letting their past, indirect experiences form their opinions.
I think children of Zeus and Poseidon especially have it rough in terms of parental..... guidance and interaction. With other gods, they are much more free with their gifts and visits. Being the two gods with joint rulership over the cosmos, they tend to be more aloof and distant, maybe bc they need to be. Idk how to properly convey this, but being the top two gods, there’s bad implications with showing favoritism? And their domains are so large that it’s hard to always keep tabs with their children? I think this is also addressed in later books so maybe I’ll hold off on this. Hades doesn’t really have this problem since he rules over a realm separate from humanity and he’s also separate from Olympus itself, so he’s also a bit more free to have a greater presence in his children’s lives. It seems like Poseidon wants to this too but can’t, otherwise he wouldn’t have looked sad when Percy almost asked him to see Sally with him.
Circling bad to Poseidon’s comments on his “wrongdoing,” I can’t help but think about how this really wrenches a knife into Percy’s insecurities. Percy already struggles with feeling wanted and being good enough, and then in his first interaction with his father, he’s told how he shouldn’t have been born because of the potential trouble he’ll cause. BUT Poseidon also reiterates that he’s proud of him and claims him as his own. We don’t get Percy’s immediate reaction to this, but I think it’s due to him having mixed feelings, just like after he was claimed at camp. He’s bitter from Poseidon’s words of remorse, but also can’t help but feel happy from being acknowledged.
Lord I’ve written so much and I haven’t even gotten to Sally and Gabe sdfjdhdf. Tbh I don’t need to talk about Sally and Percy since I’ve already talked extensively on that, but their reunion!!! It makes my heart clench. In every sense, Sally and Percy are a family. Gabe is just a sorry excuse for a human being who’s only role was to help Percy hide from monsters. Percy’s interview with the media will never be not funny bc not only do the journalists eat up his sob story, he also managed to get a jab at Gabe with offering everything free appliances 😂 It’s really sad how many journalists don’t really care about the truth and more about what will sell. They love drama, which is why they easily accepted Gabe’s story of Percy being a delinquent, and also Percy’s seemingly heartfelt story. But the fantasy Jacksons the media ate up and regurgitated is far from the real Jackson household. I honestly forgot that it was confirmed that Gabe physically abused Sally. I think by the way Percy reacted, Sally managed to protect him from that, although you could still infer it. But this is also Percy we’re talking about lmao, he’d never mention it. I want to think that Sally would’ve drawn the line, like you can hurt me but stay the fuck away from my child. Sally and Percy are really two of a kind huh. What a fucking bastard though, for making Sally go to work to “makeup a month’s worth of rent” right after she returned and treating her like his housemaid, among other much worse things. He really deserved getting his head chopped off by Riptide. But it really shows how much Percy has grown as a person when he hesitates sending Gabe to an early grave. He thinks about how it would fit into a hero’s story, how it always ends in tragedy, and how he’d seen the terrors of the Underworld and how he wouldn’t wish that on anyone. And yet, he would still do it for his mom. Because he’s incredibly loyal to a fault and would do anything for her.
I love how Sally has this conversation with Percy as an equal. She doesn’t treat him like a child and tell him “I’m the parent I can’t let you take care of me,” she gives him the same answer she told Poseidon when he basically offered her the world: you can’t solve all my problems for me, I have to do that for myself and find my own strength. Sally gives a life lesson to Percy here, how one can’t rely on the gods for everything and blame them for everything. It’s dangerous to believe one can solve every problem with a wave of their hand because they have the power to. And this is the very reason why Percy is never tempted to join Kronos, because unlike Luke, he doesn’t form a resentment towards the gods have and haven’t done and leaves it at that. Percy looks at a problem and think how do I fix this for the better, in a way that looks at the long term and not the immediate satisfaction. It’s from Sally’s influence and especially this talk that Percy doesn’t form a superiority complex; in the end he recognizes that Sally is strong enough to take care of herself, in the same way he recognizes other people’s strengths and validates them both in this book, and future books. It’s part of why he makes such a great leader, why he could give Luke the knife in book 5, why he’s a good foil for Annabeth as her friend and partner.
Small things:
Percy being like oh that kid is cool to fictional media Percy ahaha
I wonder if Percy’s fear of flying is specifically bc of Zeus or bc he just naturally is freaked out by it. Maybe it’s a child of Poseidon thing, like they’re hardwired to hate flying.
Percy’s interaction with the Empire State desk clerk 😂 Like yes I think Zeus will want to see me immediately *shows off Zeus’ weapon*
Also Zeus is so fucking pretentious, “I have to remove the human taint from my weapon.” Ok Zeus. whatever.
Someday I would love to make a full post on the symbolism of Sally using Medusa’s head to break free from an abusive relationship

Do you think The God of Animals from the RWBY fairytails The Shallow Sea and The Judgement of the Fanus might be another powerful Afterian who decided to go through the door? Because looking at the stories I'm not sure, but the creation of Fanus in the stories does actually seem to be pretty similar to ascension so I feel like there was influence from it. Maybe someone brought a bunch of Tree leaves to Remnant and the tea or smoke made from it turned people or animals into faunus.
genuinely i think the god of animals—as in the inspiration for the mythical entity, i don’t think there is an actual ‘god of animals’ in the way that the brothers are real—Is Salem.
one of the faunus creation myths is about outcasts with nowhere else to go and nothing to lose choosing to jump into magical waters offered to them by a capricious, wild god, and emerging transformed and liberated from their unhappy fates only to be condemned by humans who perceive their changes as horrific. the other is about being transformed by the judgment of a god into beings who are then immediately blamed for leading grimm to a human settlement and exiled forever.
salem is “your grace” to some of her followers, particularly tyrian, and this is also the form of address used for ghira belladonna—she is literally addressed by her own followers in the form of a faunus monarch! there is a cultural adjacency to faunus baked into referring to her this way!
the world of remnant episodes on grimm and faunus imply HEAVILY that 1. faunus have historically been viewed by humans as adjacent to grimm and 2. there is a strong cultural perception that grimm are an existential threat to humans specifically, with faunus being at best an afterthought. and of course adam’s white fang carted grimm around no problem and menagerie just…doesn’t seem to have a grimm problem, so it’s entirely possible that grimm really don’t prey on faunus except incidentally.
in ‘after the fall’ as in V2 ozpin singles out The Faunus Member Of The Team for questioning after an incident, and while we don’t get to see it directly with velvet she is in tears when her teammates burst in, and of course with blake it is transparently obvious that ozpin suspects blake of being salem’s spy; it probably also bears repeating that back in the day ozma factored “the people telling me scary stories about The Witch who lives among Beasts and Monsters also enslave faunus and keep them in cages” into his assessment of these stories not at all, and doesn’t seem to have been all that fussed about the cages situation itself. the man is quietly racist but also, like, “beasts” in this context is a euphemism for faunus, we’ve all grokked this, yeah?
all of which is to say, there are a lot of small hints as to a cultural Connection between salem and faunus that together add up to, well, i think at one point she was similarly influential to the development of faunus myth as ozma was to that of human folklore, if probably not with the same degree of intentionality. like ‘the shallow sea’ is an allegorical retelling of salem’s plunge into the grimm pool told from the perspective of freely chosen transformation being a good thing. also the god of animals is said to be a shapeshifter and we know that shapeshifting is something magic users can do. also ‘the shallow sea’ Specifically brings up the grimm three separate times just to say “don’t worry about them, they’re not a problem in This story” which, Okay.

i was already going thru your response like "real shit?" but then you brought up kaeya and i was like "REAL SHIT?????" he gets to kill the creator in one universe and save them in another. as a treat.
also. just imagine the reaction when they go to get help. maybe they try to hide you somewhere before leaving and pray that you're too exhausted to move. just... showing up disheveled and exhausted, begging for someone to come with them and please, don't ask questions or tell anybody else bc that Will cause even more problems - teddy anon
i imagine like they’ve got some of your blood on their hands from patching you up or just from what’s dripped onto the ground or a trail you left, so they’ve got that going for them at least.
…however, this does make for some interesting situations. picking thoma just because i like him:
he drags himself through chinju forest, a mix of emotions. disgust at the fact that you’ve been treated so cruelly, that a fraud is on your throne. horror at the fact that he perpetrated the hunt, and a bit more at the shimmering blue blood he sees on his clothes and hands. he just has to make it to the estate. between his lord, lady, and the other staff members with visions—or simply medical expertise—you’ll be okay.
but that isn’t his sole focus. no, the reason he’s dragging himself up the steep steps and not simply to konda is because of one meeting he knows is currently happening. one between the kamisatos, or more specifically the yashiro commission, and the creator.
they want a festival planned in honor of their descent. he wants to be sick.
thoma makes it onto the main path, one of the guards spotting him with alarm written all over their face. he knows he looks bad. torn clothes from anemo and geo, a mix of blue and red blood staining skin and cloth, hair sticking to his skin—he’s lost his headband at one point, but he’s not sure where.
“thoma!” the guard gasps, hurrying toward him. he accepts their support and keeps forward, barely mumbling that he needs to see ayato.
the guard obliges, of course, as something that’s beaten him up this badly is surely a threat to the estate, and knocks twice on the meeting room door. thoma doesn’t bother, instead shoving it open, one hand on the doorframe to support himself.
there’s four people in the room, two on each side of a low table. lord and lady kamisato on the side further from the door, seeming shocked at his interruption, and the fake and kujou sara, both looking more irritated than anything.
he points a shaky hand at the one parading themself as god. “you’re a disgrace,” he says, voice weak, and even that slight whisper is enough to get the general of the rival commission to stand—though he assumes she’s here more as their personal guard than a representative.
she draws her bow, hissing out a tense question. “what did you just say?”
ayaka seems shocked, one hand covering her mouth, but ayato… he sees his eyes search thoma for any signs of reason for this out of character behavior, any reason why he would speak out against the divine. he sees the exact moment that he finds the blue blood on his fingers, the stain on the doorframe, the audible gasp before he’s standing as well, pushing past sara to him.
“where?”
a simple question, one that thankfully doesn’t take much energy to answer.
“chinju forest,” he says, and ayato nods, turning to direct the room.
“ayaka-“
“bring her,” thoma interrupts, and ayato looks back in confusion. “and anybody else with a vision.” he waves a hand at his, at the flickering light of pyro, drained, exhausted, and ayato nods.
“then you,” he points to the guard, “stay here. keep up hospitality.” under a thin layer of diplomacy, thoma can hear anger. “ayaka, come with me.”
his lord and lady prop him up between them, dropping him off at a healer before hurrying out into the forest. by this point, black spots are beginning to dance across his vision, the doctor’s voice blurry and muffled.
but it’s okay. he’s saved you, and that’s what matters.

are there any resources you can share about caring for a loved one who may be going through a psychotic episode?
my little sister (21) is going through something that looks like an episode, but we don’t know for sure since she hasn’t had one before. my parents convinced her to see a psychiatrist, but because she *seems* okay until she starts laughing uncontrollably or doesn’t know where she is or thinks her body is horribly deformed, the first appointment didn’t really go well (as in, my dad didn’t bother talking to the psychiatrist himself and let my sister go to the appointment herself). i haven’t seen her recently, but i have spoken to her and she doesn’t seem like herself.
i’ve found sources about how to help someone with active delusions/hallucinations, but nothing much on care when they are rambling nonsense words or when they *seem* fine but then get set off and start ranting/screaming at others (sometimes obvious triggers, sometimes completely unfounded from an outsider perspective).
i struggle with my own mental health, and bipolar disorder and schizophrenia run in our family. i’m mostly concerned about providing informed care for my visit (she cannot be left alone according the psychiatrist so i will be sleeping in the same room with her).
any advice would be helpful and greatly appreciated <3
I think encouraging her to get regular psychiatric care is the best option. There is only so much you can do as a nonprofessional. For most people who suffer from psychosis, the most impactful and effective treatments are prescription medications and therapy. And those are two things you cannot provide yourself. I'm sure you and your family are aware of this, but if she struggles to open up or tell the truth or even just remember her actions to tell to her psychiatrist, it might be very helpful if you or another one of your family members schedules an appointment with her psychiatrist so that you can tell them things from your perspective.
For trying to help you sister at home, I think just being there for her, to listen, to watch out for, and to be nonjudgmental of her will go a long way. Try to make her comfortable, try to eliminate any known triggers that you can. Try to let her know you are there for her and you will keep her safe. Start an open honest dialogue with her. Ask her if she is aware of her actions, how she feels at the time, if you could do anything to help during those times. Maybe she can tell it's coming before it happens and she can notify you. Maybe she isn't aware at all and would like you to let her know what she did.
Every psychotic person's experiences and needs are different. While general articles and guides can be a helpful start, it's also important to communicate with the person you are caring for and ask them what would be helpful to them specifically. The best time to set up crisis plans, coping skills and other forms of care is when the person is doing well or is at their baseline. So when your sister is not in an episode would be the best time to have these conversations and set up these plans to help.
Also, even though you might not understand what your sister is going through, you can find parts to understand, and go from your own understanding of what might help. For example: a common feeling during psychosis is fear and/or confusion. You could think about times when you are afraid and confused and think about what things might help during those times (like assuring safety, explaining things, etc).
I'm sorry I took so long to reply, I had stuff going on that kinda kept me from doing this. If anything in this situation has since changed feel free to send me another ask and I can try to give some insight into things as they are currently. Or even if you just want to update how things are I'd be happy to hear it.

I can't guarantee anything. But I might write a Kirk Bros fic because of you. Any ideas on what kind of thing would be the most fun and/or heartbreaking with that? (Again, no guarantees. I'm kinda flighty sometimes.) You've made me think more about them than normal, so if you need to yell about them, I may yell with you. (Sorry if this is too random, or annoying, or anything.😅)
So sorry but this answer might not make much sense. I have the stomach flu and just woke up from fourteen hours of sleep because I broke my fever. This is how I feel rn.
Tumblr media
So if it doesn’t make sense please ask or message me for clarification. Everything below is just word vomit at this point.
ANYWAYS
NO NOT RANDOM I LOVE PPL YELLING even if it’s something I don’t know about. I just love when people are passionate about stuff.
I have like 30 WIPS sitting in my google drive so I totally understand you. I also started a Kirk Bros fic. It’s just a lengthy outline right now that starts right at the end of 2x10 and would end after the four Enterprise crew members are back on the ship and recovering (because everyone is going to be messed up as hell, especially La’an and I’m sure that someone will be dead in the show).
But these are some things I’ve thought about including in my WIP! Please feel free to run with them. Seriously, take them from me!
Disclaimer, in my fic I’m retconning Sam’s wife and kids from TOS because I haven’t found the SNW mention of her, which is apparently there somewhere, but I didn’t want to have to include the daddy dynamic of Sam’s character into it lol.
So first off, Pike doesn’t end up deciding if they’re pulling out, Una does. They only pull out far enough to not be in immediate danger, which is still against Starfleet orders, so they’d be breaking some regulation already and be in a wacky sort of limbo.
Then, how difficult it would be for Pike to tell Jim. I feel like he’d save him for last after contacting everyone else’s families… which I now realize those four have very little of. Jim would just know that something is wrong off the bat just from Pike’s face. He might even jump to the conclusion that Sam is dead and then the reality of his situation when Pike tells him ends up being so much worse. From there, Jim is dead set on joining them for a rescue mission, even if he has to break some regulations himself. Also at this point Christopher is a freaking mess ofc.
My biggest issue with writing the Gorn right now though is figuring out how to not have them immediately kill or do the dermal impregnation thing that’s going on with Batel, to the four of them and the settlers from the planet. I’m toying with the idea that the Gorn have been possessed by another entity. There’s an episode of Enterprise where some crew members contract a “silicone based virus” that was a whole separate species and I was thinking about trying to emulating that somehow.
I have a lot in my brain that happens between the exposition and the rescue but of course my whumpy ass had Sam being in the worst shape out of the group when they get back to the Enterprise. I think if I did go the infected Gorn route then the “virus species” will have been experimenting on Sam and he might be totally catatonic by that point and from there it would be blah, blah, blah recovery blah, blah. <- my brain literally cannot form a better sentence to communicate this rn
The actual first scene I wrote for the fic was Sam telling Jim about how picturing their childhood got him through everything that happened and specifically telling him the story about the first time he held him as a baby. Idk what kind of crack I was on that night but he ends it by telling him that he knew it was his job to take care of him as soon as he set his eyes on him. Did I write that because I’m the oldest sibling? What? No.
So anyways… yeah I have a lot of thoughts on this. And if you’d like to write something together I’m down for that too!

I’m gonna be honest, it annoys me that they/them has become The Third/Nonbinary Pronouns exclusively in the wider queer community, for two main reasons.
1: this is another instance of people creating a third gender box that they stick people in and create expectations for Instead Of doing away with the boxes entirely. and this has manifested Both in the rejection of neopronouns (because why would anyone Need to make new pronouns when we already have the Designated Nonbinary Pronouns), And in people treating nonbinary people who use he/him or she/her or any combination that includes other pronouns like they’re using the Wrong ones.
pronouns are a form of presentation, and people have found a way to Create an expected presentation for nonbinary people and tighten that collar around anyone who doesn’t fit that image they’ve created.
2: using they/them pronouns to Avoid misgendering strangers has almost completely fallen out of favor because it’s Become a gendered term. for Years the main idea that was hammered home was To Not Assume Based On Appearances in person, and lack thereof in online spaces. they/them pronouns Are Neutral, and while that means that they’re appealing to many nonbinary people for Obvious Reasons, it Also means that it works to Deliberately avoid assuming the genders of strangers.
as best as I can tell what happened was that This sentiment “sometimes family members will use they/them pronouns as either a stepping stone between a binary person’s dead pronouns and their preferred pronouns, or will be used specifically to avoid using a binary trans person’s pronouns without Technically misgendering them. which causes obvious frustration, especially because this is a behavior that’s very difficult to call out as malicious.”
somehow Warped into “using they/them pronouns for a binary trans person is always deliberate misgendering, no matter the context, because those are the nonbinary pronouns.”
which, in a general sense that Strips nuance away from the situation, Ignoring that it’s not only not always done maliciously, but sometimes done out of Courtesy or just genuine ignorance. boundaries are important, but reacting by lashing out because you’ve decided that infraction Must be inherently malicious and wilful works to make these spaces more Hostile than they need to be.
but in a more Personal sense, it’s something that frustrates me because of literally years of rewiring the way my brain thinks about other people. I have Conditioned myself to default to they/them for literally everyone so I Don’t make assumptions based on appearances or internalized biases. I’ll switch between someone’s chosen pronouns and they/them In The Same Sentence regardless of trans status and regardless of how well I know them. my friends, my family, celebrities, fictional characters, strangers, Myself. all the time, constantly.
which Doesn’t particularly mix well with the assertion that using they/them for anyone who isn’t nonbinary is intentional misgendering. which is a problem that I’ve encountered in more than just theory.
like, I don’t begrudge anybody whose Uncomfortable with it. everything’s a case by case basis, and if I talked to someone who didn’t Want to have they/them pronouns used for them then I wouldn’t. but in terms of how the broader community Conceptualizes they/them pronouns and the Implications that they come with (or don’t come with) needs to change, or at least loosen up.
