Can’t it be You? - Chapter 6
Tumblr media
Summary: Kinjou and Reader get another chance to talk while a couple surprise friends show up.
Kinjou x Fem!Reader
Warnings: None
Word Count: ~ 4,000
“What are you doing here?” Y/N asked Kinjou. Shinkai stood up and moved to her.
“Just take a deep breath and hear him out, “Shinkai spoke quietly to her then spoke to Kinjou, “I’m going to head home to change, I’ll see you guys later tonight.”
Y/N watched as Shinkai left, then brought her attention back to Kinjou sitting on her couch. She was about to speak, but he started before she could.
“I’m sorry.” He sighed. “I should haven’t said those things to you.”
She moved closer and sat on the opposite side of the couch. Y/N noticed they were in the same spots they were last night, but this was a very different conversation.
“I should have been more sensitive towards you.” He scooted a little closer to her and her breath caught. “You did something for me that I can honestly never repay you for. No matter how many shirts I give you.”
He laughed lightly at his own joke, but she didn’t smile. Instead she watched him struggle to find the right words.
“I guess I didn’t think that you would have feelings involved at all. It’s kind of stupid now that I think of it.”
Her eyes widened. Her heart felt like it was in her throat. Feelings? Does he know about her feelings?
“Did Shinkai say something to you?” she asked quickly.
“No, no.” He readjusted himself in his seat and put his hands in his lap. “I just meant from what you told me earlier… about having a relationship. I didn’t consider the difference in feelings a romantic relationship has over a platonic friendship. I’m sorry.”
He kept looking to her, hoping she would say something else, say anything at all to him. He hated that she felt bad, especially if she felt bad because of something he said or did.
“I… I don’t have much experience in romantic relationships and I should have been better prepared. That was my fault.”
He rubbed his hands over his thighs and it caught Y/N’s attention. He was wearing his jeans, but she knew what was under them and she started feeling hot as he continued rubbing. She quickly looked up at his face. He was looking at the coffee table, lost in his head.
“Y/N please talk to me,” he spoke softly, but she could still hear the pleading in his voice. “I’ll do anything. We can forget it happened if you want. I will never mention it again. But please, I can’t lose you.”
The last part came out in a whisper, barely loud enough for her to hear. She realized that he also wasn’t sure about how he was feeling and it made her heart sink. The idea that he had been feeling the same way she has these last two days hurt her. Regardless if they had romantic feelings for each other or not, they were friends, friends that barely let a day go by without speaking. She looked over at him and smiled. He was still looking at the coffee table, his hands folded in his lap. He looked worried.
Her need to make sure the people she cared about were okay took over and she slid over to where he was sitting and wrapped her arm around his waist, resting her head on his shoulder.
“It’s not your fault,” she said, “and I’m not mad at you.” She could feel the weight on his shoulder lifted as she spoke, his arm moving to her waist. He pulled her closer, holding her waist tightly and resting his head on hers.
“You don’t even know how happy that makes me.” He pulled away to look at her. “My head was all over the place these last two days. I thought I messed up somewhere or maybe took it too far, but you didn’t want to hurt me by saying it… I was really freaking out.”
He sighed and smiled at her. The relief on his face was so plain she felt guilty for prioritizing herself over him. He had just had sex, for the first time. Of course he would act weird afterwards, but she should have known better. He had been blaming himself this whole time and apologizing to her when she was the one who should have apologized.
“Kinjou?”
“Yeah?”
“Do you want to talk about it later? Us having sex, I mean… I know you understand how it worked.” She laughed, sitting up and facing him. She started playing with her fingers as she tried to find the words. “I just mean how you feel about it… I guess.”
She looked up at him, but he was only staring at her, not speaking. She thought maybe she wasn’t making sense and got uncomfortable.
“I just mean—I don’t mean that you need to… like, reflect on it or—I just mean I never had anyone to talk to when I first… maybe you’re feeling something emotionally that you want to talk about.” Great, now he is going to think you really do have feelings for him. “I mean, not like feelings-feelings, but if you—God, why is this so hard to say.”
“I know what you’re trying to say.” She looked up and he was smiling at her. “I would actually really like to talk about it with you.”
The relief she felt from hearing him say that made her smile. There was a small flutter in her stomach as Kinjou smiled at her, but she ignored it. Shinkai was definitely right. They really did just need to talk about it and she would feel better. She was already feeling better.
“What was Shinkai talking about?” she asked, “he said he was going to change first?”
“I invited you guys out tonight. Sorry, you were in the shower,” he said checking his phone, “We should probably get going soon. Some of the guys we knew from high school are in town and we’re all going out.”
“That sounds fun!” She stood up. “So I get to meet some of your old friends. I wish I knew and could have put on make-up or something.”
“You look beautiful,” he said matter-of-factly and she felt her face flush.
“I—I mean, I should still probably change,” she stuttered, sliding her hair behind her ears and walking to her bedroom.
She had no idea what to wear. If it was just her with a bunch of cyclists, it really didn’t matter what she wore, not to mention that this night was for them to catch up, she was just going to be a third wheel… or was it fifth wheel.
“How many people are going tonight?” she called to Kinjou.
“You, me, Shinkai, Arakita, and our two high school friends. Not much, I guess six. You really don’t have to put a lot of effort into how you look,” he reassured her, “I think we’re just going bowling and maybe karaoke or drinking. Just be comfortable.”
She put on her jeans and found one of her nicer blouses. It would work well enough. She really never had the chance to dress up and go out. It was kind of nice having a reason to do it now.
“Let’s go.” She stepped out of her room, moving the necessities from her main purse to her smaller one. Kinjou looked up from his phone.
“You look gr—oh wait.” He stood up and quickly moved to her, fixing her collar to hide the hickeys he gave her a couple nights ago. His fingers lingered over the marks until he moved them to her waist and she watched his eyes trace over her collar bones and neck.
“Maybe I should change.”
“No, no, you look great.” He put his hands in his pockets and looked up at her. “Should we go?”
They went to get food first. By the time Kinjou and Y/N made it there, Shinkai and Arakita were already sitting with the two friends from high school. Shinkai stood up and waved them over. He introduced them as Izumida and Imaizumi.
Shinkai was in the inside seat and sat next to Arakita and on the end was Imaizumi. Across from Imaizumi was Kinjou, Y/N, and Izumida sat on the inside across from Shinkai. Y/N spent most of her time going back and forth between both conversations. Arakita took some breaks to talk to her and then would join back in, yelling at something Shinkai or Izumida was saying.
She leaned into Kinjou’s conversation with Imaizumi and they joked about another person she didn’t know. Giving up joining, she reached in front of her for the plate of fries and started snacking as she listened in. When the conversation reached a point where she actually couldn’t follow anymore, she pulled out her phone. Before she could even unlock it, she felt Kinjou’s hand rest on her knee and rub circles. Her eyes went wide, her heart immediately racing. She looked over to him, but he was still talking and she wasn’t sure if he even realized what he did.
She tried to focus on the conversation to see if he was actively participating or if he was focused more on her leg, but she couldn’t think straight. Kinjou’s hand slid slowly up her leg, his fingers wedged in between the plushness of her thighs as his thumb rested on the outside.
She swallowed hard, trying not to think about how close he was to her core and how badly she had been wanting him there. He moved his hand to the other side of her further leg, pulling her closer to him. She didn’t know how any of them hadn’t noticed yet, her face was burning and she knew it had to be clearly visible.
She tried her best to ignore it, conversing with Arakita and Shinkai and trying to follow their conversation. Kinjou continued moving his hand, rubbing her legs in different ways that each time it felt like a whole new touch. Every time she looked over, expecting him to wink at her or do something to show he knew what he was doing, he didn’t. He just casually continued his conversation with Imaizumi as if he wasn’t turning her on under the table at the same time.
“Should we get going?” Shinkai started to stand up.
“Great plan.” Y/N jumped up and everyone jumped back. “Sorry, I really need a drink.”
“I don’t think the bowling alley will have alcohol.” Shinkai told her. “Do you want me to stop somewhere and get you something?”
“Oh really? I thought they might have a bar. Maybe I’ll just run to the convenience store downstairs.” She stepped out of the booth after Kinjou. “I’ll go with you.” Kinjou adjusted the collar of her shirt again and that definitely didn’t go unnoticed. She knew she should have just changed.
“Me too.” Arakita was standing up and pushing Imaizumi out of the booth. “Move faster!”
“We might as well all go.” Shinkai pointed out.
They paid for dinner and went to the elevator. It wasn’t very big and by the time nearly everyone tried to get on, Shinkai pulled Kinjou back next to him.
“We’ll wait for the next one.” Kinjou looked over to him with a questioning look.
The doors closed and they both watched as the elevator went from the fifth level to the fourth level before they spoke.
“You’re getting rather handsy,” Shinkai started, “Does that mean you spoke to her after I left her apartment?”
“Not yet.”
“Maybe you should calm down with how much you’re touching her.” Shinkai called the elevator back up.
“Why?” Kinjou turned to him, his eyebrows drawn together with worry. “Was she uncomfortable? She didn’t say anything.”
Kinjou looked down, his eyes searching as he thought back over the last thirty minutes. She didn’t seem uncomfortable, but then again, he didn’t really look over at her. She did jump up the second leaving was mentioned. Damn it, I made her uncomfortable.
“Should I apologize?” Kinjou stepped in the elevator after Shinkai.
“Honestly, I think you’re fine. If anything, you just confused her.”
“I didn’t want to confuse her,” Kinjou worried, “I was trying to flirt with her.”
“That’s your flirting?” Shinkai laughed as the elevator doors closed.
“What should I do?” He was rubbing his forehead.
“Look, I’m not going to tell you exactly what to do. She obviously sees something in you so you’re doing something right.
“I just want her to feel good. Should I compliment her? I already told her she looked beautiful.”
“You—” Shinkai stopped himself and laughed lightly. “You told her she looked beautiful? Not going for subtle, I see. I think you need to wait on any of that until you talk to her tonight.”
“Okay,” Kinjou nodded, “no complimenting yet.”
“If you want to turn her on though, just keep doing what you were doing.” Shinkai spoke quickly as they reached the first floor. “The fact that you’re not acknowledging her when you do it is good too, but don’t push it too far—Hey guys! What are we drinking?”
Shinkai walked out of the elevator and Kinjou followed. The others waited for them and they all walked into the convenience store.
Y/N had started a conversation with Imaizumi about how his first year of university was going. He wasn’t much of a talker, but he answered her questions and seemed interested in her talking about cycling.
The convenience store had a pretty large selection of alcohol and they each bought a drink and sat at the table outside. Kinjou couldn’t bring himself to sit next to Y/N at the table so instead he sat next to Arakita who sat next to her.
“Where’s the bowling alley anyway?” Arakita asked. “I don’t want to walk too much.”
“It’s not too far,” Kinjou responded, “just a couple blocks.”
“We should probably get going, it’s going to get busy.” Shinkai quickly finished his drink and stood up along with the others.
Y/N chugged her drink quickly, dribbling some of the liquid out of her lips and down her chin. Kinjou smiled at her, pulling a napkin from his pocket and wiping her chin.
“Thanks.”
“You’re so cute—” Kinjou immediately remembered not to compliment her and did his best to catch himself, “—clumsy. You’re clumsy… and messy.”
“Kinjou.” She looked at him, perplexed and slightly insulted.
“I’m sorry.” He looked down, confused, before he turned around and they followed the rest of the group walking to the bowling alley.
Shinkai was right, it was starting to get really packed. They took their names down and waited in the lobby for a free lane.
“Arakita!” A high-pitched voice called from around the counter. They all turned to look and Roxxy was making her way to the group.
Arakita groaned once her saw her, but once she approached the group, she turned directly to Kinjou and smiled, putting a hair behind her ear.
“Hi, Kinjou.” Her cheeks flushed a light pink.
Y/N could feel herself getting angry, her stomach starting to bubble. She felt someone grab her hand and assumed it was Shinkai since he must’ve known how she was feeling in that moment. She looked down and it wasn’t Shinkai’s hand, it was Kinjou. He quickly let go.
“Who are your two friends?” She turned to Imaizumi and Izumida.
“Some friends from high school.” Shinkai put his arms around Kinjou and Y/N as he answered her. “They’re visiting and we wanted to show them around.”
“Fun! It’s really busy tonight.” She looked around as if somehow, they hadn’t noticed the people. “I was supposed to meet some friends, but they canceled on me. If you guys want, you can join me with my reservation.”
Both Shinkai and Kinjou looked at Y/N. Arakita waved his hands ‘no’ behind Roxxy.
“I—I guess that’s—yeah, we can join.” This night just got bad.
“Great!” Roxxy bounced, clapping her hands. “I’ll go tell them. I’m on lane 16.”
They weaved their way through the crowd of people waiting in the lobby and got their shoes and ball, meeting at lane 16.
They were a couple frames in and Roxxy was up to bowl. She grabbed a ball that was too heavy for her and dropped it. Y/N rolled her eyes. She pretended to try and pick it up, but struggled.
“Kinjou, can you help me? I grabbed the wrong ball.” She smiled, looking back at Kinjou. He stood up and picked up the ball, putting it back in the ball corral. He looked directly at Y/N, trying to see what she was thinking and all he could see was her anger.
“This is going to be a long fucking game.” Y/N stood up. “I’m going to the bar. Imaizumi, come with me.” She grabbed his arm and pulled him behind her.
They got to the bar and she rested her head in her hands.
“You look upset.” He noticed.
“So you do know how to speak,” she joked. “Sorry, that was mean.”
“It’s fine.” He laughed. “I don’t really like talking.”
“Spectacular trait for a man.” She smiled and took a shot. “You must be great with the ladies.”
She handed him a shot and he shook his head.
“Come on, I think we both need to loosen up.” She handed it to him again and he took it and they both gulped the drinks down.
“So what’s with you and Kinjou?” He asked, taking a second shot from her.
“You mean Shinkai?” They clinked their glasses and drank.
“I mean Kinjou.” He raised his eyebrow and smiled.
“There’s nothing with us.” She thought about it. “I mean, I don’t think there is.”
“Well he spends a lot of time looking at you.”
“That’s just because we had s—I should let him tell you that story. Do you need another shot?” He shook his head. “Let’s go, it’s probably my time to bowl.”
Y/N sat down next to Shinkai and he leaned into her.
“We’re going to bounce after this, we’ve all had enough of her.” He whispered in her ear and she has never been happier.
…..
They all couldn’t wait to get outside and be done with bowling. Even Izumida was annoyed with the amount of times Roxxy ‘picked up the wrong ball’. The night was still young and they decided to hit a bar quickly on the way home. Most of them slowed down their drinking, knowing they had a race tomorrow and Y/N had already had a couple drinks and three shots so she got one drink to sip slowly on while they were there.
Seeing the guys with their high school friends really was fun. It was harder earlier on since she didn’t know what to say and they hadn’t had anything to drink at all, but having the experience of hating bowling to connect them, Y/N was able to join in more conversations with them. She even got Imaizumi to open up a bit more and dance with her.
At the end of the night, they were all saying bye. Y/N felt pretty sad because after a couple drinks, she really started enjoying talking with Imaizumi. They exchanged numbers and Imaizumi and Izumida both headed to the train station. Arakita was half asleep on the stool at the bar and Shinkai said he would get him home since they lived close to each other.
“Just us.” Kinjou smiled at Y/N. They were about a fifteen-minute walk to her apartment and having time to clear their head before getting to her place worked out nicely.
Y/N tossed her keys on the entry table and went to the kitchen for water.
“Do you want something to drink?” She asked Kinjou.
“I’m okay, thanks.” He walked to the couch. “Actually, can I have some wine or something.”
“Wine sounds so good right now.” She poured them both a glass and went to sit next to him on the couch. “Did you enjoy getting to see your old teammate?”
“I did. It seemed like you two got along too.”
“After he started talking, he wasn’t so bad.” She smiled. “Can I just say, I think it was a bad choice on my part to agree to play with Roxxy.”
“Such a bad choice. I kind of hate that I sort of brought her into our lives.”
“It wasn’t just you,” she said, “she has this thing for Arakita too. And she might even have one for Izumida now.”
“Well you handled the situation well. I only heard you say ‘fucking bitch’ twice.”
“You did not!” She swung the throw pillow at him.
They were both laughing and quickly realized they finished their glass of wine. Kinjou got up to get them some more.
He walked to the kitchen, opening up her refrigerator and pulling out the bottle. As he was pouring each of their glasses, he noticed all the photos on the refrigerator door. She had photos from when they all first became friends, different selfies from parties, some photos of Shinkai and Kinjou that she took for a photography class she had, even photos of Kinjou’s birthday party last year.
They had so many memories together. Telling her how he really felt was a risk, but she deserved to know. He needed to tell her. He left the wine glasses in the kitchen and moved to the couch to talk to her.
“Y/N…” He looked down at her and saw that she had curled up on the couch and fallen asleep. He smiled at how calm she looked, so peaceful and unbothered.
He took the throw blanket from behind him and unfolded it, laying it over her. He knew she hated sleeping with socks on so he pulled hers off and set them on the floor next to her.
“Y/N.” His voice was low. “Can you hear me?”
He watched and waited for her to move, but she didn’t. She stayed in the same position, her chest rising and falling evenly as she breathed.
“I have something I want to… something I need to tell you… Something I probably should have told you a long time ago.” He took a deep breath. “Y/N… I’ve had feelings for you since the moment I first met you.”
He waited again, watching to see if she moved or showed any sign of being awake. Nothing.
“When I first saw you at training practice three years ago, I was hooked. I didn’t think you would be interested in me then. I was eighteen and so nerdy and you were this enchanting goddess, so smart and pretty and talented. So, I waited, just taking my time getting to know you.”
He leaned back on the couch, remembering.
“When I thought that maybe you might say yes to getting coffee, it was already second semester and you were my TA. I didn’t want to put you in a weird place so I waited again. I had already waited three months so another three didn’t seem so bad. But then you and Shinkai started dating. I was a little hurt at first, but every time I saw you, you were smiling and it made me so happy to see you like that.”
He sighed.
“Then when you guys broke up, I wanted to give you time to yourself before I asked you out. It was really confusing because even though you broke up, you were always around each other and that’s when I figured out your arrangement and I felt weird asking you. Things like this kept happening until I just sort of stopped waiting and we became close friends. We hung out every day and I was really happy with that. Then at that party, when we danced and later when I kissed you… everything came back to me. All of it, all at once. I told myself for so long that it wasn’t going to happen, but it’s like I was able to believe again that maybe it would.”
He sat up on the couch and looked back at her.
“I’m in love with you, Y/N.” He smiled, being able to say it to her, even if she was sleeping. “So in love with you.”

wait what do u mean they dont own genesis?? he's in their game and he's their OC tho??? i dont really like the guy but why does SE not own rights to their own character?
He's based on Gackt, a singer.
The addition of the character of Genesis to the story came about after discussions between producer Hideki Imaizumi and the character's Japanese voice actor, Gackt , as Imaizumi had been impressed with the characters' brief appearance in the secret ending to DC, and felt there was great room to expand the character
In simple terms, Gackt part owns the likeness because it's a type of self insert and he helped conceptualise the creation of Genesis, although the character itself is the property of Hideki Imaizumi. Gackt owns the licensing to the music, so that's why yall won't get a remastered CC or DC.
Between them they're responsible for Genesis and I'm guessing it's too much hassle for Square to deal with a character nobody really likes.
Then there's the rumours about Gackt being a pos. Rape accusation that got brushed under the carpet as well as several sexist remarks in general. Square don't want to associate with that for obvious reasons.
You'll notice no mention of Nojima here. Because he wasn't involved in the process. Basically, this is another example of someone else shoving their ideas on his story, which by that point had 10 years worth of development done on it. He didn't get much choice in the matter because Gackt was involved and they couldn't afford to piss him off.
Aren't yall glad this is the last in the compilation and Nojima can finally do what he wants with his characters and his story?

Bookshelf Briefs 2/1/20
Anonymous Noise, Vol. 18 | By Ryoko Fukuyama | VIZ Media – It took a while for me to get into Anonymous Noise, and I still wouldn’t call it a favorite exactly, but it must be said that this final volume made me verklempt on a few occasions. I particularly liked that Nino and Momo getting back together is not the main focus, because that was so not what I was most invested in with this series. Instead, we get Nino telling Yuzu she wants to sing his songs forever, and him realizing that means even more than winning her heart. There are some awesome concert scenes—that full-page image of Yuzu singing!—and a sense of joyous confidence as they contemplate their musical future together. Too, I appreciated that the final appearance of Yuzu and Nino wordlessly confirmed that, yes, he did eventually grow taller than her. I think I might miss this series now that it’s over. – Michelle Smith
Giant Killing, Vol. 18 | By Masaya Tsunamoto and Tsujitomo | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – The second half of the season has begun! Tatsumi’s strategy going forward is to foster bettter communication and flexibility, so he’s been having the players swap positions, giving chances to non-regulars, etc. The best thing about this series is how Tatsumi has truly earned the players’ trust, and now the team feels more cohesive, each player secure in the knowledge that Tatsumi is looking out for them on an individual level and will help them to improve. Well, mostly everyone. Tsubaki is getting frustrated with his “terrible” playing and is pretty much useless after making a poor decision (while playing an unfamiliar defensive role) that leads to an ETU player’s injury. I really like that, even if they lose, they’re not a high school team trying to reach Nationals, so there’s still hope for the season. Have I mentioned lately how much I love Giant Killing? Verily, I do. – Michelle Smith
Haikyu!!, Vol. 36 | By Haruichi Furudate | Viz Media – I think I forgot to review the 35th volume of Haikyu!!. No doubt it was very good and also filled with volleyball. As is this 36th volume. It is a credit to the author that he has kept the games interesting, and I can easily distinguish between the major adversaries, which is more than I can say for some manga. There’s a few more flashbacks, some really killer moves… a lot of people jump high in the air… I may have to wait till the game finishes to review another volume, though, as I just can’t keep typing up “this was really cool volleyball” over and over again without stretching things out like I’m a contestant on Just a Minute. At least the series is ending in Japan in a week or two, so we’ll soon catch up. -Sean Gaffney
Jujutsu Kaisen, Vol. 1 | By Gege Akutami | Viz Media – I forget where I first heard of Jujutsu Kaisen, but the general impression I’ve garnered from others has largely been positive. Now having read the first volume myself, I can honestly say that I enjoyed the manga. However, it’s clear that the series still has some room to grow before it truly distinguishes itself. Jujutsu Kaisen is Akutami’s first long-form work which may partly explain why the series comes across as being so heavily influenced by other manga. But even while its ideas aren’t particularly new and the tropes that are used are well-worn, the specific and sometimes seemingly disparate combination of them in Jujutsu Kaisen has a sort of quirky charm—which is admittedly kind of a strange description for what is essentially a horror manga about demon hunting. There is darkness, seriousness, and drama in Jujutsu Kaisen, but many of the characters tend to be likeable goofballs. – Ash Brown
MabuSasa, Vol. 1 | By Nanase | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – With its cute cover and male lead who looks like a scary delinquent but who is actually kind, I thought MabuSasa was going to be a sweet love story akin to Honey So Sweet. I was very wrong. It’s not advertised as such anywhere that I could find, but this is actually a 4-koma manga. True, there aren’t titles for the strips, but the page layout fits, as does the sensibility. Mabuchi is indeed a sympathetic character, but he’s surrounded by one-note caricatures. Most infuriating is Akira Sasagawa (the Sasa of the title), our fujoshi heroine who absolutely refuses to listen when Mabuchi swears that he’s not in a relationship with his best friend, Sota Ando. She concocts BL scenarios at every opportunity, even when Mabuchi meets and plays with her little brother. All of this is meant to be funny, I’m assuming, but I didn’t smile once. – Michelle Smith
Yowamushi Pedal, Vol. 13 | By Wataru Watanabe | Yen Press – Sheesh, the Inter-High still isn’t over in this volume. It literally takes 300 pages to go 3.5 kilometers! In that time, there are a couple of big matchups. The first is Imaizumi versus Midousuji, where the former is bolstered by the power of friendship while the latter pulls off new and even more nightmarish contortions while scoffing at the notion that friends are anything more than useless. Imaizumi emerges victorious but a crack in his bike’s frame means that Sohoku’s hopes now rest with Onoda, who goes head to head with Manami. Probably my favorite parts were the reactions of the Sohoku third years to the announcement that Onoda is still in the running to take the whole thing. 500 meters remain at the end of the volume. Next time for sure, right? – Michelle Smith

Okay, I need to talk for a minute about the last yowapeda chapters, because omfg I’m loving them so much??
Apart from the fact that I’m really freaking curious about where this all mtb thing is going to go, I’m just, so happy that the focus is now entirely on Onoda. Don’t get me wrong, I love all the other characters (and I’d kill to see more of Junta and Hajime before they leave), but Onoda is the main character and we basically haven’t seen him doing anything important at the IH apart from the final race - but even there the focus was split between him and Manami, of course - and now he’s back to be the focus, and I’m absolutely loving it.
You read these last chapters, and you can really feel how much he has grown - I mean, we always see Onoda’s love for bikes and racing connected to his love for his teammates and the fact that he wants to race with them and for them, so it feels like it’s more about the people than cycling in itself, you know - and that’s something I love about Onoda.
But. But!! In these last chapters he’s alone, he cycling for himself and there is no Imaizumi or Naruko or Manami or whoever to fuel his spirit. And yet he’s so fired up because of this road he can’t climb, bot oh my god how he wants to do it! You can see his strong spriti of initiative, his immense love for climbing, his need to challenge himself! Even if everyone said it was impossible, even if he can see it with his own eyes that it’s obvious he can’t do it because his bike isn’t good for that kind of roads, even if he’s perfectly aware he could damange it, or fall and even hurt himself, he’s just like “I still haven’t tried, I can’t know for sure I can’t do it!”
And so he really does, he really tries to climb up that freaking unpaved road with his road bike! (a bike that he calls Bike-kun and to whom he really apologize before starting to climb- THAT UTTERLY ADORABLE KID I SWEAR TO GOD)
And he obviously can’t, yet he keep struggling and trying until he really does fall, an what does he do at that point?? He just!! Keeps going!! On foot!! Because he wants to reach the fucking summit of that fucking mountain and no one can stop him!!
Honestly, that guy who looks at him and is like “fucking superd you funky little climber!!!” is really a mood. He looks at Onoda and falls in love because that boy sure is a disaster so of course he wants to give him a mountain bike and ride with him.
So, yeah, I just really love Onoda, okay LOL

This was an OP-ED written for the Oricon about Subaru’s departure the day after he left. It’s worth a read from an objective perspective of an industry person. You can read the original Japanese post, here.
Despite the non Idol-esque Image, He Left Johnnys -- Shibutani Subaru’s Delimma
On April 15 at a press conference, Subaru Shibutani announced his depature from Kanjani8. Not there due to rehabilitation was Shota Yasuda, but his other six fellow members also appeared with him to state their opinions in an openly frank way. That time Shibutani stated that he “ wanted to pursue music “, but until then, it was Shibutani that was the driving point of the group’s music as their main vocalist. During his solo debut, by himself, Shibutani stood on stage and said as an introduction, “ I perform with Kanjani8 as an idol “.
Since their days in Osaka, held together by their strong ties to each other, Shibutani was always there as they became national idols. But as he looked back on that journey, he was thinking of the decision he made that day.
Kanjani8 as a group has, perhaps, many images with their comical songs and image, but with Subaru quickly leading the pack with his declaration of loving wrong, the group also has a long history as a band. Since his days as a Johnny’s Junior, Subaru has always been grouped as a vocalist for a band. When he’s performing with Kanjani8, majority of the time, the group also performs as a band. Shibutani himself had said, “ Music, when I think about it, seems to be Kanjani8′s weapon “ (Entertainment magazine, Ori-Star), an unorthodox approach that he has always managed to embrace.
As a band, members Ryo Nishikido and Shota Yasuda are the guitarists, Ryuuhei Maruyama is the bassist, and Tadayoshi Ohkura is the drummer. Shingo Murakami and Yuu Yokoyama originally did not perform any instruments, but as they practiced, they eventually took up keyboards and the trumpet for live performances. When Murakami first started playing an instrument, he stated, “ I think it’s amazing that I can hear everyone sing and play instruments. It’s like we gotta be a band “ (Same issue). It strongly appeared as if all the members seemed to express the same sentiment in regards to pursuing music (as a band).
At press conference, Shibutani shared his thoughts with, “ Within Kanjani8′s activities, I had intended music to be my primary drive.” It was with that passion for music that seemed to had spread amongst the members of the group, driving Kanjani8 as a whole to also embrace it as well. As a means to expose the group, in 2007, Johnny’s and Associates decided to book the group on a 5 month tour that encompassed all 47 prefectures. In 2010, the group released and performed their first single as a band, “ Life Me no Mae no Mukou he “, on musical programs. Last year, still fresh in our minds, was their first outdoor festival in display of their strong ability to perform as a band. For six years, the group have lead successful arena tours, and have historically earned consecutive no. 1 DVD/Blu-ray rankings on the Oricon Charts. The group has continued to show success when it comes to sales. With all of that in mind, Kanjani8′s music always firmly associated themselves with live performances (as a band).
When the group debut, each member had announced what they personally wanted to do but in 2012, as the group approached their 8th anniversary, Kanjani8 had come to a consensus, “ There’s nothing we want to do individually. We’re going to try a lot of things, that’s our pride as a band. We want to be a group that definitely does not want to lose “. In 2014, Shibutani had appeared as a solo artist at TV Asahi’s Dream Festival 2014, and when he got on staged, he introduced himself to the audience with, “ I’m in an idol group called Kanjani8. “. While in Rodderdam International Film Festival for the promotion of the film, “ Misono Universe “, Shibutani wore a t-shirt that he had “Kanjani8″ written on it. Even as a solo artist, Shibutani had always embraced his group.
With those feelings, “ There’s no mistake that Kanjani8 is the one thing that has the biggest importance to me. I have spent more time with them than with my own family.” Those same sentiments have not changed. Despite that, Shibutani has expressed to his fellow members, “ With all the experiences that I have put my life on the line for, this time, as I come to this decision, all I can give to you all is my deepest gratitude. I can not apologize enough. “
The extent of love Shibutani has for his band, that strong conviction, in a way also lends to the reality him being a folly as a “Rock Man”. There are periods where he’ll have long hair, grow facial hair, and appear as if he’s not exactly an idol. In 2011, he admitted, “ In all honestly, I can’t do nothing but sing.” Again, in 2014, when Kanjani8 launched their own private label, he declared, “ Don’t think I’m a jack of all trades, is something I value. I might sound pretty selfish, but, I think I’m the only guy out here that is that steadfast over something.”
“ The first time I thought about leaving was when I turned 35 years old,” Shibutani had revealed to us. His love for music and his love for Kanjani8 might have caused inner conflict for him. The things that drove him when he was young are now different and the various experiences in his life is what driven him to make this personal decision now.
Now at 36, he is now prepared to to pursue music on his own. Shingo Murakami said, “ In the beginning, I had nothing but, ‘ What the hell. No. ‘, but , I had to get stronger and when I finally saw it, I understood.” Throughout the press conference, he left the impression of someone who had finally reached their own resolve.
Nishikido has referred to it as ‘starting anew’, Maruyama and Ohkura have also acknowledged Shibutani’s decision to leave, adding “ I love him. I can’t hate him for it.” Yokoyama also said, “ I truly feel as if we can’t allow ourselves to simply look down on all of this.” Each and everyone of them are continuing to move on. Shibutani the one that has decided to pursue music on his own and the six member Kanjani8 who have just lost Shibutani. Their roads maybe different but the bonds that they have formed have not changed. They are about to take a new step forward, and I anticipate whatever new music they are to create next.
Author: Imaizumi.

I already annoyed ppl on discord but I’m still super emotional about the last yowapeda ep so have an analysis post on the results of day 2:
Kyofushi: They won, so obviously this was objectively good for them, but it was also done super well. Midousuji specifically won this at the same point where he placed third last year, because he learned from his mistakes. Somewhat. He didn’t change anything about his core ideology - as shown by him abandoning a rando (kiriya) again even tho that put him at such a disadvantage last year on the third day - but he learned how to apply it more efficiently. Baby steps. And also a huge opening for him to crash and fail on day three. It’s not just that he abandoned one guy who could’ve helped on the last day, but he also is way too sure of himself being the only deciding factor. He says he won because he is “the most right” and thinks very obviously it’s due to his new way of “holding victory”, which are obviously part of it, but it’s also partially due to sohoku struggling so hard imaizumi had to go without a launching part and hakogaku sending Yuuto instead of Ashikiba. On the third day, the conditions will be different, and if he fails to really take that into account, he can get too arrogant and lose. As for the others, seeing Mizuta be genuinely good and passing Onoda after Midousuji won was amazing, it both shows that Midousuji can genuinely inspire people to be better even the way he is and that Mizuta could probably be doing much better than he is currently if he wasn’t looking up to Midousuji of all people. Komari was suspiciously absent from the award ceremony despite being Midou’s #1 fan, so I’m guessing he’s upset about losing the sprint, but we’ll have to see where that goes. Funatse was cute but let’s face it he’s never gonna be important.
Sohoku: Honestly the most difficult to interpret here. They just keep losing, but they’re not necessarily making horrible mistakes, they make some mistakes and also get unlucky but they make up for it and get a good shot, it’s just always barely not enough. Which is basically the same as last year, except last year it sometimes was just barely enough. Everyone’s getting character development too, in this race especially Imaizumi, so it feels weird that they never win, but it’s definitely interesting to see how they keep pulling themselves back up over and over, every time a little more desperately. They’re technically in the same position as last year with their ace in second place and a third year with a damaged leg that is likely to drop out in an emotional scene on the last day, but it feels much worse. It’s great to see Onoda trying to distract himself from the question if he can pull the team to victory again, because so far, it really doesn’t look like he can. But he knows thinking that would hold him back, so he just thinks of something else. He’s doing fine on his own (and will do even better probably after next ep hehe) and I’m so proud of him.
Hakogaku: Oh god where do I even start. My boys. Yuuto. Yuuto did nothing wrong and I will murder anyone who implies he did. They got third place and it’s honestly 100% Ashikiba’s fault. I like him but man does he suck at making decisions in important moments. If Kuroda and Izumida drop out/fall back on the last day, this will probably be hakogaku’s worst problem. All those people worrying that a sprinter as captain couldn’t instruct the team at the end had a point. It’s another nice parallel to last year, because Fukutomi and Toudou ignored Midou’s taunts, gave up the mountain checkpoint and then won. (Unrelated but it’s one of the things that really makes me love Toudou like he’s selfish on the first day sure but he wasn’t kidding when he said he’d ride for the team after that bless him.) But hakogaku was in a much worse position last year, they’d broken apart after Shinkai lost the sprint and generally not as assured in their ability to win what with Izumida losing the first sprint and the finish line three-way-tie at the end of the first day. And I think it’s also partially because Ashikiba just doesn’t have as much respect for his opponents as his senpai did, especially Fukutomi and Toudou. He raced sohoku like once and he lost, but it sure seemed like he took it more as a step in his personal growth, and he’s only really acquainted with Teshima, who he never raced since middle school and mostly respects for his karaoke skills. Meanwhile Fukutomi got to witness Kinjou’s iron will first-hand after he injured him and I don’t think I need to explain what Toudou thinks of Makishima. With that in mind, it’s not surprising Ashikiba got a bit too arrogant and greedy, possibly even convinced that it was that exact mindset that losing is such a real possibility that made them lose in the first place. I genuinely hope this was the wake-up call for him (and possibly Doubashi who seems to think along the same lines) and he does better on the last day so they can get that final win even if it’s not a perfect 9/9. At least Yuuto got so, so much potential to grow, how he sees himself in relation to his brother, getting over the fact that he lost, possibly even seeing Ashikiba more as a person with flaws than as the perfect hero he seems to be in Yuuto’s mind. I can’t wait to see more of him. I wanna see everyone’s reactions to the loss too. Manami probably won’t mind much, but he might try to cheer Yuuto up (he knows what it’s like to fail at a finish line as a first year after all). Doubashi might be angry??? Idk he’s a proud guy but I doubt he’d be too mean to anyone. And I really want to see how Izumida and Kuroda handle their strategy meeting and what they say to Ashikiba and Yuuto.
This got really long so congrats if anyone actually read it, if not it doesn’t matter I killed some time until the next episode which I know will be amazing because of my boy Toudou.

phantom breaker: battle grounds
man, i'm nearly out of guardian heroes-likes to play. what a scary thought!
phantom breaker: battle grounds was designed by masaki ukyo and masatoshi imaizumi. therefore, it's a direct part of the lineage of both guardian heroes and panzer bandit. it's also a spin-off of phantom breaker, also designed by them. it takes a lot of cues from all of these games.
it retains the rpg mechanics from guardian heroes, even expanding upon them (which we'll get to later.) the game also has aerial drift after double jumping and simplified special move inputs on a special button, from phantom breaker proper. gameplay overall though is a lot closer to panzer bandit than guardian heroes. stand still to block makes a return, as does the two plane setup. unfortunately, it also inherits panzer bandit's flaws.
for one, there's very little in the way of enemy variety. this both makes things often feel repetitive, and prevents the designers from crafting truly interesting challenges for the player. outside of size and damage dealt, most enemies really don't do much different in terms of threatening different ranges or doing things like healing. when there is enemy variety, it usually comes in the form of very generic projectile throwers, something guardian heroes didn't have, and for good reason. getting your combos interrupted midscreen doesn't feel good, and getting in on them when they're spread between both planes often feels more like luck than skill. guardian heroes is a very chaotic game, but its challenges are expertly crafted. there's order in the chaos. this game, despite being more reined in, feels more randomly thrown together with the expectation that it'll all just work. despite that, though, it's still far less difficult than guardian heroes or even panzer bandit. i'd argue guardian heroes on easy is notably more fun, challenging, and stimulating. overall it never reaches the wild highs of its forebearer in spectacle or challenge, only occasionally surpassing it in frustration.
then there's those Expanded RPG Mechanics i was talking about. i am pretty vocal in my distaste for rpg mechanics in action games. guardian heroes is an exception because they don't get in the way - you're not gonna be stuck thinking about how to allocate stat points for 30 minutes, or opening guides on how best to build characters - it's usually self-evident what you should be doing based just on what you've been struggling with. plus, guardian heroes never locks abilities behind levels - everything you can do is there from the start, so you're never lacking a wide set of tools. phantom breaker: battle grounds decides to lean closer to that shit i hate by adding in, what else, a skill tree. my heart sank when i beat the first level and saw it, honestly. and while it's small and not all that bad, i find that it's still very unnecessary at best. i couldn't even fill out half of it by the time i beat the game, which means moves i could've been using were locked away from me for my entire playtime. worst of all, the increased focus on the skill tree means that stats have been simplified to just attack, defense and speed - this is in part also due to the generally simplified movesets, but it's an area where the game loses depth when compared to guardian heroes in favor of something that... also removes depth? not a fan!
what do i like about the game? well, the graphics are very pretty, especially the main character sprites, which animate extremely fluidly. this game is similar stylistically to scott pilgrim vs. the world, but it honestly puts that game to shame in terms of animation. it also feels pretty nice to hit things - though i still think it's less satisfying than guardian heroes, it probably is the main thing that kept me playing through the game.
overall, phantom breaker battle grounds is... fine but it's a very disappointing spiritual successor to guardian heroes and not a game i'd really go out of my way to recommend to anyone.

Judgement issate
The black circle around his wrist has mocked him for the last decade and a half of his life; even now, in his car, Teshima Junta’s eyes are drawn to it. It had been so long since he last saw what it looked like wrapped in color that he forgets what the specific shades and hues are, but he remembers the day it reverted back to black clearly in his mind. Once you found your soulmate, it flared with colors that would make you think of them, or at least it was supposed to. The only reason it would revert back to black was if your soulmate chose to reject you.
He had been rejected; the memory makes a bitter smile curl across his face and he leans the back of his head against the car seat’s headrest, taking a deep breath to calm himself. When the letter had come in the mail, he had almost thrown it out without a second thought. Cycling had been important to him when he was in high school, but his team had failed the Inter-High he had participated in as captain and so he never went back to it once he went on to university. He traded his road racer in for a normal bicycle, figuring it would cost him less money in the long run if he never had to pay for transportation anywhere. And then he bought a car and put the bike away somewhere where he hardly ever looked at it anymore.
Loss should not have affected him as badly as it had; Hakone and Kyoto Fushimi were great teams and losing should not have been so far removed from reality that Teshima felt cruelly robbed when all was said and done. But losing the race had nothing to do with it; it had everything to do with the fact he had crossed the finish line on the final day with his mark back to black after it had been flared to brilliant color the two days before.
People had noticed. It was impossible to miss, and though he knew no one would ask questions about it or spread rumors around out of a sense of basic decency, he knew that they knew what it meant. Even if they had no idea that his soulmate was on his team with him, they would know what the black color’s return would mean in the long-run.
The team had been compromised because of that change, that shift, an argument on the night before the third day that led to both him and Kaburagi Issa not quite racing as well as they should have been able to. Issa had been having issues on the second day and Teshima’s concern had turned into a full-blown fight that the team had to split them up before it came to blows. Issa had been dishonest with them about his condition and Teshima had only been worried about him; by the end of the night, he was furious and broken hearted.
His senpai would have been disappointed with him. He can almost feel it even though none of them had ever said a word to him about it.
The letter had come from Kinjou, who had decided to set up the meet-up now that all of them had graduated from university and made lives for themselves. Most of them had not seen each other in years; Teshima had ended up at a university far away from the others, partially on purpose and partially because none of them had applied to it in the first place. It would have been too easy to throw the letter away and forget Sohoku altogether.
But Teshima has never been one to turn a blind eye to a problem, and fifteen years is more than enough time for him to straighten out his thoughts and decide that he wants to talk to Issa face-to-face and find out just why their argument had ended the way it did.
The restaurant is one he knows well as a place they had all come together more than a few times, and he sits outside of it with his eyes closed, relaxing his breathing until he can step out of his car without feeling like he should throw himself back in and go home. A glance through one of the large windows shows him exactly where his team is positioned, taking up a few tables all pushed together to make room for all of them.
“Teshima-san!” The familiar voice of Imaizumi Shunsuke draws Teshima’s attention from the window to the doorway, where Imaizumi stands, holding it open with a smile on his face. That throws Teshima off for a moment; Imaizumi’s face has softened around the edges when he used to be nothing but sharp corners. “We were worried you weren’t going to come after all.”
“No worries to be had. I’m here now.” Teshima pastes a smile on his face he does not quite feel and joins Imaizumi at the door, allowing his kouhai to lead him to the table.
The others greet him and Teshima reflects that none of them look the same now, more grown-up, more grown into themselves when they had all been awkward teenagers not quite used to the muscle they had packed on. He also doesn’t notice Issa at the table; the bright orange hair has been traded for something more muted, something Teshima himself almost misses even though he would have sworn Issa would never be able to dodge his eyes.
Dinner is a little awkward with both of them there, but Teshima pulls his sleeve over his wrist and steers the conversation expertly away from the tension. Within a few minutes, no one forgets what happened. It isn’t as though anyone can see Issa’s mark, after all; the handprint itself is on his shoulder and covered by his shirt. Teshima himself had never been able to check whether it had gone back to black or not considering the rejection was one-sided.
By the end of the night, he’s resolved not to bring it up at all and is on his way back to his car when a hand catches him around the wrong wrist and his stomach roils unpleasantly.
“Don’t do that!” He yanks his hand away from Issa, holding it against his chest. “I told you on the last day you couldn’t do that anymore because it makes me nauseous. What do you want?”
Issa looks struck at first, as if he expected Teshima to treat him more gently, but Teshima has grown out of that, and Issa is an adult now. He can take care of himself. “Sorry, I just… I forgot, I guess. It’s been a long time and I’ve tried to do my best to forget about that.”
“Why doesn’t that surprise me?” Teshima tries to keep the bitterness in his voice turned down low because he has no desire to get into a fight right now. He just wants to go home. “You must want something or you wouldn’t have followed me out to my car.”
“I just wanted to apologize. I never did, properly, and…” Issa trails off, shoves his hands into the pockets of his jeans and tips his head back, eyes searching the heavens; if he’s looking for a sign from God, Teshima hopes he doesn’t get one. He should have to do this himself since he chose to reject their bond by himself. “I know it messed us up bad on day three and that was your last Inter-High. And more than that, I know it hurt you a lot because you went off to university and Aoyagi-san came back to our next Inter-High, but you never did.”
Teshima swallows a knot in his throat at these words; he had circled the date on his calendar that he would have to leave by to make it there, but in the end he never summoned the courage necessary to make the trip. “I wasn’t exactly looking forward to seeing you again.”
“Wow, that’s rough!” Issa laughs a little, then shakes his head and pinches the bridge of his nose. “But I know. I understand. I broke your heart and you didn’t want to see me anymore.”
That was putting it lightly. Teshima had considered over the years that he might even get a tattoo to cover up the mark on his wrist. It would hurt terribly because the skin there was thin, but it would save him a lot of heartbreak in the end, right? “That’s about the shape of it. I was actually going to ask you why… Why you did that. We were just talking about how you weren’t feeling well and then suddenly it snowballed into something personal.”
“I don’t hate you or anything. I just— I really thought Danchiku was going to be the one, and then it turned out to be someone who treated me like a little kid, or that’s what I felt like. I didn’t have enough respect for you.” Issa stops and takes a breath, and Teshima wonders how long it had taken him to come to this conclusion, and how much longer it had taken him to gather up the strength to talk about it. “I shouldn’t have. God, I really shouldn’t have. I said all those awful things and like, I knew it would be easy to break it, and I was upset, and I guess I just wanted someone else to be upset too. And I did something awful because of it.”
“Yeah, you did.” Teshima leans against the door of his car and scrubs a hand over his face. “I can’t just forget about it, you know. I can see the mark all the time. Other people can see it. I haven’t even wanted to try dating someone else because people always assume I just haven’t met my soulmate, and I just don’t want to have to explain that no, I have, and—”
“Understandable.” Issa reaches out to him again and Teshima flattens himself against the door of the car. “No, don’t, listen. I just… I know what I did wrong and I’m sorry. I haven’t been with anyone else either, actually. You know, I wanted to ask Danchiku, but after… I couldn’t.”
Teshima bites down on his tongue and takes a deep breath, letting it out slowly. “Well, that’s your own fault. You made the choice for both of us.”
“No. I only made the choice for me. I wasn’t sure if I was going to tell you, but.” Issa grabs the collar of his shirt in one hand, twists it and yanks it down until Teshima can just see the edge of the mark on his shoulder, the purple and blue watercolor scheme there. “But I thought I should after the way dinner went. Because you deserved to know the truth. I only made the choice for me and I’ve thought about it every day in my life because you… You never—”
“It hurts, you know? It’s physically painful. It hurt me, it felt like my heart had been ripped out and my wrist hurt for a week or longer. It hurt when you touched it, just now.” Teshima touches the mark through his sleeve, rubbing it soothingly. “I couldn’t do that to you. I didn’t hate you, Issa, I never did. I didn’t even know you. I thought we could get to know each other.”
Issa fixes his shirt, running a hand through his hair. “But I ruined our chances of that by rejecting the bond right away. I’m sorry, Teshima-san. I never… I was a stupid kid and I didn’t even give us a chance and I’m sorry that it hurt you like it did.”
Teshima’s wrist throbs anew and he hisses, pulling back his sleeve to look at it properly, but he stops as soon as he sees it. The black is gone, replaced by a brilliant watercolor mixture of oranges and reds, one he hasn’t seen in fifteen years. He slumps against the side of his car and when Issa takes his wrist in hand again, the pain fades away immediately.
“Maybe we can still try,” Teshima finds himself saying, even though he knows the first time ending like it did was probably a sign of things to come. Still, he stamps down on that thought and straightens himself up, wrapping his hand around Issa’s shoulder where he knows the mark to be. “No promises it’ll work out obviously, but—”
“But we can still try,” Issa finishes. And then he smiles, and Teshima feels just a little lighter.
Maybe they can make this work. Maybe they can’t. But at least this time, they’re going to give it a serious try.

3: And Onoda-kun....
I....
7: The number Makishima-san carried

im making a second post like the last one bcus I remembered a quote from the scene I mentioned that makes me lil heart both incredibly sad and overjoyed by Watanabe’s skill. fuc
“I wouldn’t stop cycling if my mom died.”
- Says the tiny little malicious lizard child who’s projecting his depression at light speed.
This was during the scene after Midousuji lied to Boo Boo the Imaizumi and told him his mom hath been slain by child on wheeled device. Incredibly tragic, really, but whats even more tragic is what’s behind this this lil “haha fuck you”
Midousuji really didn’t stop cycling after his mother died, he never did! He put himself into speed 3000 and said “well guess I’m gonna pedal until it fuckin kills me.” He didn’t have anything else going for him, his grades were shit and he didn’t have any friends. (he had plenty of bullies telling him how “shit” he was at everything, however)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I’m pretty sure this was before his mom died and like, just after he hit a bump and went flyin)
Midousuji Did Not Stop doing the one thing he thought would make his mom proud. He promised he’d carry her to the finish line, whether she’s dead or alive, he’s gonna win to make her proud!! aint that depressing!! He’ll never stop until he gets where he needs to be to make the one person who ever cared about him proud!! or ...
Tumblr media
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, sc ary things
this was at the end of day 2, when lizard lost again and then sunshine boy comes to stop him from literally trying to bike all the way back home. “I had nothing left at the end of inter-high” meaning. He’s put his whole life towards winning, winning as big as he can, as much as he can, making her proud. When he can’t win, and when things look bleak, when he can feel the empty husk of “you’ve slot haha, try again!” coming, he shuts down. He freaks out. He goes home (incredibly fucking far away, may I remind you), or in the very least tries to until he’s convinced by the lil sunshine baby boy I love Onoda, that maybe there’s still a chance, that if this guy here could make it big (someone who reminds him of himself when he was little and happy and had his mom!!!) then there’s still a chance that he can!!..
..tho he still freaks out and cuts all his hair off because he is absolutely fixated on winning, so that means more self destruction to make himself faster.
buT heres the scary kicker. What’s Midousuji gonna do with himself once he HAS won? (if he does)
“I had nothing left at the end of Inter-High.”
He’s got nothing after this. His grades aren’t good, he doesn’t have friends or know how to interact with people in a way to make them. He’s achieved his one goal of making his mother proud, and then the “empty husk” after winning comes back. (I don’t think I have a screen shot fuck but he does say that after he wins his race in middle school and an interviewer tries to get his attention, something along the lines of “I feel the rush when I win, then i go back to feeling absolutely empty. Nothing.”)
s o in short I'm Scared for my lizard who’s gonna feel empty if he wins, or even tremendously worse if he loses. I also admired Watanabe for having such a fuckign complex character and honestly why hasn’t yowapeda gotten more awards. Holy fuck. I could probably do analysis like this on nearly every damn character in the show thERES SO MUCH THOUGHT AND EFFORT PUT INTO THEm ggGGGgGG

I'M SLEEPY I CAN'T SLEEP I WANT TO DREAM || atsushi || trial 5.7 || re: DUDE IDFK ANYMORE || attn: megumi, ua
Atsushi thought he was going to be okay for the most part after confessing... for some reason. Quickly, that didn't seem to be the case, as people started to address him and his decision.
Shut up...please. Your life is so important.
Stop. Thank you.
You matter so much, please... please.
Stop it. It's not true. I want to believe it.
J-just take it back, change your mind!…
Stop! Just... But I can't... sorry.
I cannot lose anyone else that I love for no reason–!
...just... st... ...Sorry.
...Megumi and Ua's words, unfortunately, fell on deaf ears. But... these words, all of them-- they weren't hard to understand, right?
People cared for him.
He was cherished.
He was loved.
...
... so, why?
"...ut up shut up shut up shUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP--"
Why did hearing this feel so fucking suffocating?
You matter. You matter. You matter. You--
Tumblr media
"--DON'T MATTER! I DON'T MATTER! I DON'T MATTER! SHUT UP!! SHUT UUUPPPP!!! STOP TALKING ABOUT ME!!! IT WAS NEVER FUCKING ABOUT ME!!! STOP TREATING ME LIKE SOME POOR VICTIM!!!"
Clutching at his head aggressively, he groaned as if he were in pain, hunching over his podium as if his head were about to split open. It felt like it was going to. He hated this. He didn't want this. He felt like he was going to die every time someone said his name. Each stare or look, concerned or not, felt like sharp knives plunging into his body, twisting and turning ever so slowly but surely.
The attention was horrible. The pity was painful.
The thought of him being important was terrifying.
"Why the fuck do you think I volunteered in the first place?! I WAS READY TO DIE!! And don't fucking treat me like a martyr either! WHAT IF I WANTED TO DIE? EVER FUCKING THOUGHT ABOUT THAT?! I can't just fucking take it back or some stupid shit like that, and it's not like the stupid bear would've let me anyways! I did it because I want all of you to GET OUT OF HERE ALIVE!! I did it so NO PROGRESS WOULD BE LOST!! Me?! What fucking good is there with ME being around?! I haven't contributed to SHIT! This isn't about me! This is about the victims! The culprit! THIS FUCKING TRIAL!!! THERE'S NO FUCKING TIME FOR CONDOLENCES WHEN WE HAVE TO SOLVE THIS MURDER!!! If I do survive, we can talk later-- but now we need to figure out who killed Kensuke and Shinobu! WE HAVE TO DO IT FOR THEM, GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!!!!!!!"
Tumblr media
"FUCK!!! FUCK-- F-FUCK, FUCK--"
In a bout of extreme frustration, Atsushi started kicking and battering his podium. It creaks. It cracks. And as the sound of pounding wood echoes throughout the room, so does his exasperated yelling.
He slams his hands down on the podium as soon as he stops.
Tumblr media
"Great to see we're fucking working on it. But both of ya bein' fuckin' liars is making this difficult. I mean, Imaizumi was able to decieve Sugita pretty nicely, so whose t'say that her friendship with Hiroha is real?
Anyway, the others are right-- Literally FUCKING NOTHING points toward Ua! Unless they fuckin'-- shit-- I don't know, went into the rec room to plant the paint thinner there, or gave her an injury to make it look convincing, but then why fuckin' else would Kensuke's drink taste like balls? And Imaizumi literally said she's BEEN in the art room! And Ua was NOWHERE NEAR the scene of crime! And-- And--"
He turns toward Ua. Oh god.
"You sound like you're pulling shit out of your ass. Surviving? Tampering? What the FUCK do you mean I inspired you? Inspired you to what? Give me a fucking panic attack?! How do we know if you're lying again, AH?! YOU ALREADY TRIED LYING TO US AFTER YOU TRIED TO KILL OZAKI!! Said you wouldn't hurt a friend, huh?! THEN WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME?"
He starts to laugh.
Tumblr media
"Friend this, friend that... Friends mean NOTHING in the trial room. Don't pull that 'I don't want to see my friends die' bullshit on me. Compared to Imaizumi, you're rather fucking confident, aren't you? You looked distressed when I ditched your ass way back when! If you really are telling the truth, why aren't you begging on your knees pleading your friends not to leave you? How do we know you really care?"
A deep inhale. A long exhale. He stop talking for a bit... he just needs to breath.
...
"...Enough of this.
If either of you two actually care, PROVE IT. I don't know how and I don't CARE how. You've already tried too hard trying to prove yourselves as guilty, and you two literally refuse to explain yourselves. Instead, PROVE EACH OTHER'S INNOCENCE. PROVE THAT YOU CARE."
Finally reduced to whimpers and soft sobs, he leans over his podium, a hand over his face.
"...I'm so fuckin' tired..."

So, I’m rewatching s2 of yowapeda, and I think I found the exact moment when Imaizumi completey and absolutely falls head over heels for Naruko - that is, when he sees him climbing during the thrid day. I mean, you can pinpoint the exact moment his mind goes blank for a moment and then he realizes that he’s so fckn in love with the red flashy dork in front of him
Here, I have proof
Tumblr media
*softly* Holy shit
Tumblr media
Boy is literally in awe, he can’t stop staring at Naruko like he’s seeing him for the first time.
Tumblr media
And here we can see him thinking about how friggin amazing Naruko is (really, he’s thinking that, something like that he is so amazing that he can even inspire his own teammates)
Tumblr media
Holy shit I might be a little in love with him <-- we all know this is exactly what he’s thinking. You’re not fooling anyone, Imaizumi.
It’s like, he has always known that Naruko was amazing, but right now he’s realizing how fckn amazing he actually is
And then! After everything, after they have already lost two teammates and he knows that they will have to sacrifice someone else and that not all of them will make it to the finish line - after that, when he realizes that Naruko is exhausting himself, he still tries to stop him! Look at how concerned he is:
Tumblr media
And then, after Naruko drops out, what does he says? I’m going to win for him. Yo, Imaizumi, your crush is showing :v
Tumblr media
Look at him, so determined to win for Naruko :v
So, yep, here, that’s the moment when Imaizumi finally stops lying to himself and finally admits that he has the biggest crush on Naruko (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

Kimura Tatsunari Shuukan Josei Prime Translation
Tumblr media
This is a very loose translation of Kimura Tatsunari’s interview in Shuukan Josei Prime, so there’s a probably a lot of errors. But hell, it’s better than Google Translate. Plus it’s interesting so I can’t help but share it. Enjoy!
Kimura Tatsunari, an actor that you should check out now! A talk behind the scenes of Yowamushi Pedal Drama
Loose translation of the Shuukan Josei Prime Interview: Source
This is a continuation of the interview in Shuukan Josei Prime.
I: Interviewer K: Kimura
"I've loved musicals from the very beginning, so my desire to do it is strong." I: On March next year, you're going to be a part of the well-loved and long-running "La Cage aux Folles". You've said yourself that you want to sing, haven't you?
K: Yes, I have. I've loved musicals from the very beginning, so my desire to do it is strong. So being able to have a chance to perform as Jean-Michel in La Cage aux Folles makes me really nervous (lol). I don't really wanna say that I'm nervous though. For the time being, I'll think hard about it first lol.
I: You've already started voice training, right?
K: I've already started practicing my singing. Well, I knew it's gonna be difficult. All of my experiences are different as compared to this one, so I'm sure that the difficulty in this is going to be on another level.
I: Are you having fun in your singing practice?
K: I'm having fun! It's what I've always wanted to do after all. Being able to express my feelings into my singing makes me happy.
I: Even though you're a bit anxious? (lol)
K: Definitely. But well, somehow along the way that anxiousness will disappear... Before I knew it, the anxiety that I've felt before has already vanished. That's the kind of person I am. (lol)
“Whenever I ride a bicycle, I end up adapting Imaizumi’s riding style.”
I: I'm going to ask a bit about BS SkyPERFECT TV's original serial drama Yowamushi Pedal Season 2. Who do you think is the moodmaker in the set?
K: I guess it's (Aoki) Soramu and (Takigawa) Eiji-san. I'm the one who does all the pranks that Eiji-san plans to do, and I think it's really fun. I've also realized that I've become one (a moodmaker). So far, Eiji-san's been calling me an "idiot" (think of Kageyama's infamous boke) since that's how the Hakogaku members do their punch lines (tsukkomi), and even though it's like that I still think it's a bit different. I end up thinking, "Should I even react even though I'm younger than him?"
I: So he calls you an idiot only as a tsukkomi?
K: Yes. And then Eiji-san and Soramu-san even end up doing tsukkomi battles. And we all laugh so much whenever that happens. When the shooting ends and we're all exhausted, and there's a hint of confusion in the air... I think, "This isn't good." So while waiting in between our shoot, I play around with Eiji-san and Soramu-san in the first half and in the second half doing the "Boke and Tsukkomi" (manzai comedy) and switching around and having [tsukkomi] battles. And when that happens, I look around and see that everyone has gotten lively (lol).
I: Looks like a party with the Dorapeda members is going to be pretty lively.
K: Even though we won't be able to go drinking, it's surely gonna be lively. We're all people with loud voices after all (lol). If we add in alcohol then it's gonna be even more rowdy!
I: Have you been charmed by bicycles thanks to this drama?
K: I really got into it~ The way you handle yourself on the ground as you pedal, the feeling of figuring out how you're going to move forward (???).... as expected, it definitely feels good. That's why I bought one. From the same manufacturer as Imaizumi Shunsuke's Scott. It's a different model as Imaizumi's though.
I: So you ride even on your own private time?
K: I haven't really ridden that far, but I've reached about 15 kilometers.
I: So you ride until you reach the training hall?
K: I give myself a bit more free time to do that (biking). Well, I guess it's refreshing. Looking at the scenery while riding is fun. Being able to feel the wind feels so good. It's enjoyable. That's why doing that this summer at the set, with sweat dripping down our skin.... Make-up artist-san will make an annoyed face again (lol). That's what I have to prepare for.
I: Are there even similarities between Kimura-san and Imaizumi Shunsuke?
K: Our speech and conduct aren't the same, I think. Still, I think that whenever I ride a bicycle, I end up adapting Imaizumi’s riding style. We all should do this together, something like that.
I: So you understand Imaizumi's feelings?
K: I understand what Imaizumi meant when he said, "The front of the pack is the quietest." That's why I get a bit annoyed whenever someone passes through me. Is something like that even similar to him?
I: What else? How about being stoic?
K: Well, it wasn't really my intention to appear as stoic. But a lot of people have been telling me that I'm stoic. So is that also a similarity between us? I've been called as a "Jack of all trades, master of none" though.
I: Is there any scene during the three days of Inter High that you'd like us to look forward to?
K: That scene where Kinjou had withdrawn from the match and entrusted his soul [to the first years and Makishima]. I mean, that's the scene that I really wanna see the most. Where at the start, I said to Kinjou, "Please! I'll definitely push you from behind!" even though the flow has already changed from that time onwards... That's a very emotion-packed scene. It fills you up with emotions every time you watch it, so please, look forward to it!
"The me who thinks, "I need to come out" as I act has already vanished long ago."
I: Ever since your debut in Tenimyu, you have starred in various 2.5D projects. Kimura-san, what do you think is the charm and joy of 2.5D productions?
K: First of all, isn't being able to act as a character that's impossible to exist in real life fascinating? It feels natural even though it really isn't, something like that. Though for me, that's the starting point; on the contrary, I think I need to make it seem natural. There have been many 2.5D movie and drama series productions as of late, so it really gained a lot of attention. Manga is a part of Japan's culture, that's why I think this is truly an amazing thing.
I: In 2.5D productions, what do you think is the most important thing when it comes to preparing for your role?
K: Isn't the original work the most important thing? And then, as you delve deeper into it, you'll end up thinking, "There's probably no other answer but this." And then you'll end up reading the original work until the end. Until you do that, I don't think you'll be able to relate to it that much.
I: What are your memorable experiences from all the productions you've done?
K: There were a lot of things that I've learned ever since I've started Haikyuu!!, and I've done a lot of studying over the original work. So when the director explained it, I ended up thinking, "Aah, it's so deep~"  since I haven't even thought of that before. And also when Naruto's Kodama Akiko-san told me, "Kimura-kun, please make a wind." I really have no idea what she meant by that, but I did my best anyway. So after the performances, I didn't forget to ask Kodama-san about it. "What do you think? How did I do?"  I asked. When Akiko-san said, "You've managed to make it (the wind) today" I've realized that that's what she really meant.
I: She didn't really go for the specifics, did she?
K: At that time, I really haven't had someone criticize me, so I ended up criticizing myself. I asked,"Is it okay if I do it like this just a little bit more?" And then she answered, "Isn't it good where you are right now?" So I asked, "Well then, please tell me what I have to gather!" She replied, "Let's see.. Kimura-kun, please make a wind." I stared blankly at her at first, but there's actually a hundred ways to interpret it when I think about it.
I: It's such a difficult order, isn't it?
K: I was like,"What do I have to bring out so that the atmosphere will become better?" But I ended up having a lot of fun in this production, and I think I enjoyed it even more when I was given an order.
I: So you want to hear it from the director himself?
K: I'll go and ask him myself. That's the kind of person I am.
I: You prefer it when something challenges you?
K: That's right (lol). The me who thinks, "I need to come out" as I act has already vanished long ago. But of course the foundation for that is that I'll enjoy it whatever it may be. I: Even though it looks like you're busy because of the shooting, do you have any plans for the summer?
K: There's somewhere I want to go! I want to go to a beach where you can do a lot of sports activities.... the waterpark! I want to go there the most! Yesterday, I saw a program on TV about the places you need to go on your next holiday! Ah, but I don't wanna get sunburns... what should I do? What should I even do (lol).

Hi! Could I ask for Sohoku’s first year trio (well, now in season 3 they’re second years, fine…) having an accident and afterwards hearing that they won’t be able to ride a bike ever again due to some permanent injury? I mean, how would they react to such news. Thank you!
I’m going to do these in headcanons, since I feel like they’d have a variation of different reactions. Those who would take it worst to best would be: Imaizumi, Naruko, and Onoda.Imaizumi Shunsuke
he was always so careful to stretch and protect himself
is completely at a loss when told by the doctor that he’d never be able to ride
most likely shut down for a while
his true passion is cycling and when that is taken away from him, he has a hard time coping
since he always puts his all into everything, it takes him a while to get out of the feelings of being useless and worthless.
during the rehab, he’d try to slowly better himself to at least get back to it in some capacity
even if the doctors say there’s no way, he’d at least try - that is what fuels him
his friendship with the others does also help to push him
Naruko Shoukichi
worked so hard to become an all-rounder and help carry the team further
very likely to sit in a depressive slump for a while and let everything fester
won’t stay in it as long as Imaizumi would
would push himself in rehab though know in the back of his mind he won’t be at his true and full potential anymore
with the strength of his friends carrying him, he tries to be the best of anything he could be
even if he can only cheer on his team from the sidelines or carry them from there, he’ll try his hardest so he can do at least that
intensity is toned down slightly in order to keep himself focused on his own healing progress
Onoda Sakamichi
feels like he lost a big part of his life that helped him to gain so many good friends and have a purpose
he’d try to be more optimistic about his prognosis and try to work through it the best he could
he isn’t past feeling depressive funks but would rely on his friend’s and do whatever he could to try to help support them
unlike Imaizumi or Naruko, he feels like he might not have something to fall back on since he’s never been as athletic as them
would cheer for everyone from the sidelines, rather than be a burden and try to help where he might not be able to
thinks about starting a club or support group for disabled students who used to be athletic or wanted to be athletic and couldn’t due to their ailments
would use his new lot in life to try to help others who have dealt with the same injuries or haven’t been able to do much from the start

Page 2 (double page) (no text)
Page 3 (no text)
Page 4 Bu 1: Just wait for us! Onoda-san, Imaizumi-san!! Bu 2: Our collaboration, the super limited express Kaburagi train
Page 5 (double page) Bu 1: Will catch up in no time!! Bu 2: You stupid orange bastard! What "Kaburagi express train", you don't get to choose the name!! Bu 3: Haha don't sweat the details, Doubashi-kun Bu 4: Use "-san"! Bu 5: So fast!! Bu 6: Look at that drafting! Bu 7: Oh my god they're cooperating!! Bu 8: WOAH Bu 9: Last year's champions, Sohoku, and the reigning champions, Hakone, are cooperating!! Bu 10: We just saw something amazing Bu 11: How exciting Bu 12: If they have the same goal, competing teams can pool their resources and work together! Bu 13: Once they reach their goal, they'll be enemies again! Bu 14: Road races are so interesting! Bu 15: I got a good picture! I'll send it to you Bu 16: Yuki, what do you think of the guys moving behind us? Bu 17: There are several small groups and then the largest pack at the back Bu 18: On the last day of inter-high, it's easy to form a cohesive group Bu 19: What if Bu 20: they manage to unite and pursue us?
Page 6 Bu 1: ..... Bu 2: All the guys behind cooperating? Bu 3: You sure do worry a lot Bu 4: Feeling anxious about that, Touichirou? Bu 5: There was a lot of chaos about it last year. Bu 6: I want to prepare for every possibility Bu 7: My prediction is that it won't happen this year Bu 8: You need a leader that everyone recognizes is strong Bu 9: Just looking at the lineup, there isn't anyone who can do that. Bu 10: Also, since Hiroshima struggled last year, everyone is wary of them. Bu 11: They can't have just anyone as a leader, if they're too nice it's over. Bu 12: If they're too ruthless, it's still no good Bu 13: Don't worry Bu 14: Even if they manage to unite, Bu 15: That barely held together group Bu 16: Won't even last 30 minutes.
Page 7 Bu 1: They'll just fall apart Bu 2: Higo mokkosu!!** **T/n: "Higo mokkosu" is a phrase specific to the Kumamoto area. Higo is the name of an old province in Kumamoto Prefecture. "mokkosu" is a Kumamoto phrase meaning "unmoveable", "stubborn", etc. Bu 3: Oh it's the main pack! Bu 4: Mokkosu!! Bu 5: The last group made a proper peloton! Bu 6: I'm this here pack's leader, Kumadai 3rd year "Demon sergeant", Ise Shinya!! Bu 7: We'll join t'gether and show the boys up front what we're made of!! Bu 8: It's already the last day!! Bu 9: We got nothin' to lose!! Bu 10: Let's give it our all!!
Page 8 Bu 1: Yeah!! Bu 2: Up till the front...!! Bu 3: Let's do our best!! Bu 4: Y..yeah Bu 5: Since it's the last day, do as much as you can! Bu 6: We'll catch up to the front!! Bu 7: Actually... Bu 8: How far are we from the front? Bu 9: I-idiot! Don't think about that for now Bu 10: Just focus on what's in front of you Bu 11: ...Ok Bu 12: HIGOO.... Bu 13: MOKKOSU!!
Page 9 Bu 1: We need to increase our speed!! Bu 2: Even more!! Bu 3: Ise!! Bu 4: ! Bu 5: Fukuoka Jousei's Oohori!! Bu 6: Hey nobodies Bu 7: Let's switch! You'd be a lifesaver. Help raise the speed!! Bu 8: Especially since you're one of the First Result candidates.... Bu 9: Sorry, I strained myself too much on the 1st and 2nd days Bu 10: Since the morning my legs... they haven't been performing!! Bu 11: I'm feverish too...Even though we're both from Kyuushuu and I want to assist...sorry. Bu 12: I can't!! Bu 13: ..... Bu 14: C- Bu 15: Can't be helped! Too many people have gotten injured on the 3rd day of Inter-high...!! Bu 16: Ok, just stick to the inside of the pack Oohori!! Bu 17: There's no air resistance on the inside Bu 18: You can stay there until you recover!!
Page 10 Bu 1: Don't worry, we'll manage somehow!! Bu 2: Since I'm the leader, we ain't leavin anyone behind!! Bu 3: Listen up everyone! Anyone who's injured or not feeling well Bu 4: Gather at the center to rest!! Bu 5: The guys who are injured... Bu 6: Ise-san!! Bu 7: What is it Fujiwara Bu 8: Um... Bu 9: The guys inside the pack are complaining!! Bu 10: ! Bu 11: If we go at this pace Bu 12: They're wondering if we'll even catch up to the front Bu 13: going at this slow pace Bu 14: Iwasaki is dealing with those guys right now Bu 15: Let's raise the pace even more!! Bu 16: Uh, from now we'lll Bu 17: Will we even catch up at this rate, Kumadai!! Bu 18: Uh...
Page 11 Bu 1: What the heck is the leader doin'!! Bu 2: The famous Hakogaku is at the front!! Sohoku is there too Bu 3: They're super fast!! Bu 4: We definitely won't catch up at this rate Bu 5: Should some of us just push ahead? Bu 6: That'd be too hard Bu 7: ..........It's time Bu 8: Anyways, what the hell does "Higo Mokkosu" mean Bu 9: It's from Higo, I think it means stubborn. Bu 10: Why have we been yelling that! Bu 11: He's not in control at all! Bu 12: Get it together, Kumadai! Bu 13: We've been pulling the whole time! Bu 14: Their discontent...we can't unite... Bu 15: If we keep going like this... Bu 16: This pack is gonna...
Page 12 Bu 1: What's wrong, Kumadai? Bu 2: Ah Bu 3: You alright? Bu 4: Hiroshima!! Bu 5: What, did you overexert yourself Bu 6: Kumadai? Bu 7: Did you just stagger a lil'? That's dangerous Bu 8: If I don't support you now Bu 9: You could fall and get hurt!! Bu 10: naha!!* (T/n: This is his weird laugh)
Page 13 Bu 1: Even though you finally gathered the group and started chasing the front Bu 2: Hiroshima!! Bu 3: Ise-san Bu 4: I'm staggering...? I see, thanks for the help. Bu 5: But..Hiroshima, you guys betrayed us last year. Bu 6: Oh, no need to thank me, naha!! Bu 7: However, it's true that Ise-kun has become a great leader. Bu 8: You're even looking after the others Bu 9: !? Bu 10: Yesterday, you even pursued the front and delivered actual results Bu 11: Everyone recognizes your abilities Bu 12: I asked for your cooperation yesterday Bu 13: But you guys turned us down Bu 14: Kumadai started kickin! Bu 15: The whole team! Bu 16: They intend to catch up to Hakogaku!! Bu 17: Will you work with us, Kumadai!! Bu 18: We can help pull, let's reach the front together!! Bu 19: No way!! Especially not you guys!! Bu 20: We'll catch up by ourselves!!
Page 14 Bu 1: That sure made me sad Bu 2: If we had worked together back then, maybe the results would have been different. Bu 3: !! Bu 4: After that... you challenged Kyofushi in the mountains and raised your pace Bu 5: But your team dwindled Bu 6: .... Bu 7: !! Bu 8: I'm sure it was hard Bu 9: We sure regretted it Bu 10: !? Bu 11: Why was it back then.... Bu 12: That I was being so pushy about coordinating with you guys
Page 15 Bu 1: We were full of regret.... Bu 2: Kyofushi, Hakogaku, Sohoku...and Kumadai's "4 Strongest", we wanted to win against all of you. Bu 3: That's what Machimiya-paisen wanted at least... Bu 4: Well... Bu 5: Let us make amends? Bu 6: For our sins? Bu 7: Could you please believe us? This year, we're a cozy Bu 8: and friendly team. Bu 9: Are these guys actually friendly this year...!!! Bu 10: "Making amends"....!! Bu 11: We'll help out a little Bu 12: With the pack Bu 13: It's fine if Ise-kun is the leader Bu 14: I'm sure it's fine to let us support you Bu 15: Instead of simply coordinating, we'll cooperate and lend our full strength. Bu 16: ......
Page 16 Bu 1: Of course!! Bu 2: Our leader Ise-kun just gave his permission!! Bu 3: Huh? Bu 4: Uh Bu 5: Hiroshima? Bu 6: Shiono!! Satozaki!! Bu 7: Yeah! Bu 8: Yup!! Bu 9: Go up front and pull Bu 10: We'll help too!! Bu 11: yeah Bu 12: We need to catch up to the front Bu 13: Pull at full speed!! Bu 14: Okay!!
Page 17 Bu 1: Okay! Also, the injured guys Bu 2: And the guys not feeling well should stay back!! Bu 3: Even the ones who only feel a little off Bu 4: Eh Bu 5: Ah... Bu 6: Huh? Bu 7: Gather up at the back Bu 8: We're going to start speeding up Bu 9: Eh? Bu 10: At the back? Bu 11: Why? Bu 12: !? Bu 13: The back? Bu 14: There were guys who complained we were going too slow Bu 15: Everyone, let's work together Bu 16: K? Bu 17: Will you cooperate?
Page 18 (double page) Bu 1: They broke away!! Bu 2: Huh? Bu 3: EH Bu 4: Hiroshima pushed forward... Bu 5: Damn Bu 6: They suddenly increased their pace!
Page 19 Bu 1: Hiroshima... They just strangely Bu 2: Pulled forward so efficiently!! Bu 3: Ah! Bu 4: What.. What's going to happen with us... Bu 5: Huh!? Bu 6: Were we left behind!? Bu 7: We were left behind!! Bu 8: Fukuoka Jousei's Oohori!! Bu 9: What!? Bu 10: They broke away!! Bu 11: If you increase the people in the pack, you can increase the speed overall Bu 12: But if you have weaklings, you can't achieve max speed Bu 13: You really intend to cull the herd, Hiroshima Urakubo! Bu 14: I won't let you!! Bu 15: I'm the limitless sprinter,
Page 20 Bu 1: Fukuoka Jousei's Oohori Jouji!! Oohori sfx: *pant* Bu 2: Ura- Bu 3: -kubo... Bu 4: You're lookin' pale Bu 5: Ugh.. Bu 6: Ooooo Bu 7: Don't overdo it
Page 21 Bu 1: The guys who were all in bad shape or injured.... Bu 2: Wha- Bu 3: Oohori! Bu 4: What are you doing, raising the pace all of the sudden!! Bu 5: What the hell are you plannin' Urakubo!! Bu 6: Did you want to increase our speed? Catch up to the front? Bu 7: This is how I'm helping. Bu 8: I got rid of the useless ones. Bu 9: We'll speed up this way Bu 10: W- Bu 11: I made sure to warn them? Bu 12: That we'd be accelerating
Page 22 Bu 1: It's no good to just speed up without telling anybody Bu 2: But I made sure to tell them "We're speeding up so get behind us" Bu 3: They didn't think what'll happen when they start heading back while we push forward Bu 4: The ones who complied lack imagination Bu 5: You...You... Bu 6: I wanted...to properly take everyone..that was the purpose of this pack... Bu 7: Calm down "Mr. Leader" Bu 8: There's no way we could have taken everyone to the front. Bu 9: This guy...! Bu 10: Shiono, Satozaki!! Speed up even more! Bu 11: Are you taking over this peloton!!
Page 23 Bu 1: Let's get along, Leader~ Bu 2: .... Bu 3: You're counting on me, arent you? Leader? Bu 4: Oh yeah, I forgot to introduce myself Bu 5: I'm Bu 6: the man who sinks his teeth into his prey and never lets go Bu 7: Also known as Bu 8: The Land Shark of Kure
