Kyana feeds some of the school cats. she would feed all of them if she could

Dani smuggled Plug (the scrawniest black cat you've ever seen) into her dorm room illegally and somehow management hasn't caught her yet (based on a true story) (Kyana visits to see Plug all the time)

Docent is the name of VR-LA's old laptop that broke down so he gave it to Cassimere (computer engineering major he met once at a networking event) to fix except Cassimere got everything off the hard drive and then somehow managed to fuck it up Even More so he had to get a new laptop (and named it Emi)

Roy has gotten food poisoning from his dorm meal plan at least once (based on at least one true story)

The heap trio + Mandy would be those friends constantly playing majong in the dorm lounge and if all the majong tables are taken they just play in one of their dorm rooms on a towel to dampen the tile shuffling noises (it was Mandy's idea)

Every morning Dani goes to the drinks stall at her faculty and orders one iced coffee to the point where the stall owner starts preparing an iced coffee whenever they see her approach (based on my true story)

Roy would be one of those people who goes clubbing every other week and every time he tries to drag the rest of the heap trio and Egan almost always goes and Dani would go if she didn't have a good excuse but always begrudgingly. anyway Roy would always be the only one having a good time until Egan gets drunk enough to start having fun

Finbar actually uses the dorm kitchens instead of just buying canteen food and it always makes the hallways smell really good

Vhas also uses the dorm kitchen sometimes but like. one time i walked into the pantry on my floor and someone had left cut sweet potatoes and 2 eggs in an inch of water in a pan on the stove. that's Vhas

VR-LA and Maxim's friendship stems from them being from wildly different faculties (VR-LA's in STEM, Maxim's doing anthropology so arts/social sciences) but also having lots of weird interests they cant really bug anyone in their home faculties about

Elyse is in student government and every once in a while Finbar receives a series of angry texts about the newest idiocy she's had to put up with

MR-SN and AS-TR start a stargazing club together. other notable members include AS-TR's girlfriend E-DN, MR-SN's friend C-RA (the one who always volunteers to carry the heavy ass telescopes) and MR-SN's friend K-LB who he pestered into coming to fix one of the wonky scopes even though K-LB's actually in electrical engineering but he's the only engineering person MR-SN (an arts student) knows

oh and of course VR-LA joins because he genuinely just likes space (developing a crush on his club chairperson was not on his bingo card)

Kyana and E-DN were MMA sparring buddies at one point which is how she found out about the stargazing and joined immediately

okay yeah actually, i’ll bite. i’ve got some of my own thoughts about the unsleeping city and cultural representation and i’m gonna make a post about them now, i guess. i’ll put it under a cut though because this post is gonna be long.

i wanna start by saying i love dimension 20 and i really really enjoy the unsleeping city. i look forward to watching new episodes every week, and getting hooked on d20 as a whole last summer really helped pull me out of a pandemic depression, and i’m grateful to have this cool show to be excited about and interested in and to have met so many cool people to talk about it with.

that being said, however, i think there is a risk run in representing any group of people/their culture when you have the kind of setting that tuc has. by which i mean, tuc is set in a real world with real people and real human cultures in it. unlike fantasy high or a crown of candy where everything is made up (even if rooted in real-world cultures), tuc is explicitly rooted in reality, and all of its diversity -- both the ups and downs that go with it. and especially set in new york of all places, one of the most densely, diversely populated cities on earth. the cast is 7 people; it’s great that those 7 people come from a variety of backgrounds and identities and all bring their own unique perspectives to the table, and it’s great that those people and the entire crew are generally conscious of themselves and desire to tell stories/represent perspectives ethically. but you simply cannot authentically represent every culture or every perspective in the world (or even just in a city) when your cast is 7 people. it’s an impossible task. this is inherent to the setting, and acknowledged by the cast, and by brennan especially, who has been on record saying how one of the exciting aspects of doing a campaign set in nyc is its diversity, the fact that no two new yorkers have the same perspective of new york. i think that’s a good thing -- but it does have its challenges too, clearly.

i’m not going to go into detail on the question of whether or not tuc’s presentation of asian and asian american culture is appropriative/offensive or not. first of all, i don’t feel like it’s 100% fair to judge the show completely yet, since it’s a prerecorded season and currently airing midseason, so i don’t yet know how things wrap up. secondly, i’m not asian or asian american. i can have my own opinions on that content in the show, but i think it’s worth more to hear actual asian and asian american voices on this specific aspect of the show. having an asian american cast member doesn’t automatically absolve the show of any criticisms with regard to asian american cultural representation/appropriation, whether those criticisms are made by dozens of viewers or only a handful of them. regardless, i don’t think it’s my place as someone who is not asian to speak with any authority on that issue, and i know for a fact that there are asian american viewers sharing their own opinions. their thoughts in this instance hold more water than mine, i think.

what i will comment on in more depth, though, is a personal frustration with tuc. i’m jewish; i’ve never really been shy about that fact on my page here. i’m not from new york, but i visit a few times a year (or i did before covid anyway, lol), and i have some family from nyc. nyc, to me, is a jewish city. and for good reason, since it’s home to one of the largest jewish populations of the country, and even the world, and aspects of jewish culture (including culinary, like bagels and pastrami, and linguistic, like the common use of yiddish words and phrases in english colloquial speech) are prevalent and celebrated among jews and goyim alike. when i think of nyc, i think of a jewish city; that’s not everybody’s new york, but that’s my new york, and thats plenty of other people’s new york too. so i do find myself slightly disappointed or frustrated in tuc for its, in my opinion, rather stark lack of jewish representation.

now, i’m not saying that one of the PCs should have been jewish, full stop. i love to headcanon iga as jewish even though canon does not support that interpretation, and i’m fine with that. she’s not my character. it’s possible that simply no one thought of playing a jewish character, i dunno. but also, and i can’t be sure about this, i’m willing to bet that none of the players really wanted to play a jewish character because they didn’t want to play a character of a marginalized culture they dont belong to in the interest of avoiding stereotyping or offensive representation/cultural appropriation. (i don’t know if any of the cast members are jewish, but i’m assuming not.) and the concern there is certainly appreciated; there’s not a ton of mainstream jewish rep out there, and often what we get is either “unlikeable overly conservative hassidic jew” or “jokes about their bar mitzvah/one-off joke about hanukkah and then their jewishness is never mentioned ever again,” which sucks. it would be really cool to see some more good casual jewish rep in a well-rounded, three-dimensional character in the main cast of a show! even if there are a couple of stumbles along the way -- nobody is perfect and no two jews have the same level of knowledge, dedication, and adherence to their culture.

but at the same time, i look at characters like iga and i really do long for a jewish character to be there. siobhan isn’t polish, yet she’s playing a characters whose identity as a polish immigrant to new york is very central to her story and arc. and part of me wonders why we can’t have the same for a jewish character. if not a PC, then why not an NPC? again, i’m jewish, and i am not native, but in my opinion i think the inclusion of jj is wonderful -- i think there are even fewer native main characters in mainstream media than there are jewish ones, and it’s great to see a native character who is both in touch with their culture as well as not being defined solely by their native-ness. to what extent does it count as ‘appropriative’ because brennan is a white dude? i dunno, but i’m like 99% sure they talked to sensitivity consultants to make sure the representation was as ethical as they could get it, and anyway, i can’t personally see and glaring missteps so far. but again, i’m not native, and if there are native viewers with their own opinions on jj, i’d be really interested in hearing them.

but getting back to the relative lack of jewish representation. it just...disappoints me that jewishness in new york is hardly ever even really mentioned? again, i know we’re only just over halfway through season 2, but also, we had a whole first season too. and it’s definitely not all bad. for example: willy! gd, i love willy so much. him being a golem of williamsburg makes me really really happy -- a jewish mythological creature animated from clay/mud (in this case bricks) to protect a jewish community (like that of williamsburg, a center for many of nyc’s jews) from threat. golem have so often been taken out of their original context and turned into evil monsters in fantasy settings, especially including dnd. (even within other seasons of d20! crush in fh being referred to as a “pavement golem” always rubbed me the wrong way, and i had hoped they’d learned better after tuc but in acoc they refer to another monster as a “corn golem” which just disappointed me all over again.) so the fact that tuc gets golems right makes my jewish heart very happy.

and yet...he doesn’t show up that much? sure, in s1, he’s very helpful when he does, but in s2 so far he shows up once and really does not say or do much of anything. he speaks with a lot more yiddish-influenced language than other characters, but if you didn’t know those words were specifically yiddish/jewish, you might not be able to otherwise clock the fact that willy is jewish. and while willy is a jewish mythological creature who is jewish in canon, he isn’t human. there are no other direct references to judaism, jewish characters, or jewish culture in the unsleeping city beyond him.

there are, in fact, two other canon jewish characters in tuc. but...here’s where i feel the most frustration, i think. the two canon jewish humans in tuc are stephen sondheim and robert moses. both of whom are real actual people, so it’s not like we can just pick and choose what their cultural backgrounds are. as much as i love stephen sondheim, i think there are inherent issues with including real world people as characters in a fictional setting, especially if they are from living/recent memory (sondheim is literally still alive), but anyway, sondheim and moses are both actual jewish people. from watching tuc alone you probably would not be able to guess that sondheim is jewish -- nothing from his character except name suggests it, and i wouldn’t even fault you for not thinking ‘sondheim’ is a jewish-sounding surname (and i dislike the idea/attitude/belief that you can tell who is or isn’t jewish by the sound of their name). and yeah, i’m not going to sit here and be like “brennan should have made sondheim more visibly jewish in canon!” because, like, he’s a real human being and it’s fucking weird to portray him in a way that isn’t as close to how he publicly presents himself, which is not in fact very identifiably jewish? i don’t know, this is what i mean by it’s inherently weird and arguably problematic to portray real living people as characters in a fictional setting, but i digress. sondheim’s jewish, even if you wouldn’t know it; not exactly a representation win.

and then there’s bob moses. you might be able to guess that he’s jewish from canon, actually. there’s the name, of course. but more insidious to me are the specifics of his villainy. greedy and powerhungry, a moneyman, a lich whose power is stored in a phylactery...it does kind of all add up to a Yikes from me. (in the stock market fight there’s a one-off line asking if he has green skin; it’s never really directly acknowledged or answered, but it made me really uncomfortable to hear at first and it’s stuck with me since viewing for the first time.) the issue for me here is that the most obviously jewish human character is the season’s bbeg, and his villainy is rooted in very antisemitic tropes and stereotypes.

i know this isn’t all brennan’s fault -- robert moses was a real ass person and he was in fact jewish, a powerhungry and greedy moneyman, a big giant racist asshole, etc. i’m not saying that jewish characters can’t be evil, and i’m not saying brennan should have tried to be like “this is my NPC robert christian he’s just like bob moses but instead he’s a goy so it’s okay” because...that would be fuckin weird bro. and bob moses was a real person who was jewish and really did do some heinous shit with his municipal power. i’m not necessarily saying brennan should have picked/created a different character to be the villain. i’m not even saying that he shouldn’t have made bob moses a lich (although, again, it doesn’t 100% sit right with me). but my point here is that bob moses is one of a grand total of three canon jewish characters in tuc, of which only two humans, of whom he is the one you’d most easily guess would be jewish and is the most influenced by antisemitic stereotypes/tropes. had there been more jewish representation in the show at all, even just some neutral jewish NPCs, this would not be as much of a problem as it is to me. but halfway through season 2, so far, this is literally all we get. and that bums me out.

listen, i really like tuc. i love d20. but the fact that it is set in a real world place with real world people does inherently raise challenges when it comes to ethical cultural representation. especially when the medium of the show is a game whose creatures, lore, and mechanics have been historically rooted in some questionable racial/cultural views. and dnd is making progress to correct some of those misguided views of older sourcebooks by updating them to more equitably reflect real world racial/cultural sensitivities; that’s a good thing! but these seasons, of course, were recorded before that. the game itself has some questionable cultural stuff baked into it, and that is (almost necessarily) going to be brought to the table in a campaign set in a real-world place filled with real-world people of diverse real-world cultures. the cast can have sensitivity consultants and empathy and the best intentions in the world, and they’ll still fuck up from time to time, that’s okay. your mileage may vary on whether or not it’s still worth sticking around with the show (or the fandom) through that. for me, it does not yet outweigh all the things i like about the show, and i’m gonna continue watching it. but it’s still very worth acknowledging that the cast is 7 people who cannot possibly hope to authentically or gracefully represent every culture in nyc. it’s an unfortunate limitation of the medium. yet it’s also still worthwhile to acknowledge and discuss the cultural representation as it is in the show -- both the goods and the bads, the ethically solid and the questionably appropriative -- and even to hold the creators accountable. (decently, though. i’m definitely not advocating anybody cyberbully brennan on twitter or whatever.) the show and its representation is far from perfect, but i also don’t think it ever could be. still, though, it could always be better, and there’s a worthwhile discussion to be had in the wheres, hows, and whys of that.

Well

Welp, feeling like doing an update because there's been a lot going on to be honest. its one of those weird dichotomies where every day feels like an eternity and there's so much going on and then you look back and you're like oh, ok its just my brain making it difficult and making things take forever but anyway.

LOCKDOOOOOOOWWWWWWNNNNNNN

Lockdown life was good, apart from being thrust into it so suddenly dave left a banana on his desk. Wasn't great to come back to after 5 weeks out of the office - mummified mouldy banana!! Classic. We luckily got our first jab before lockdown started so that was good, and we were reasonably well stocked up on food and were generally a lot healthier this lockdown that last. honestly, there's a level of chill and serenity in lockdown that i just love. the ability to set my own schedule and only work the hours I actually work to get the job done? Amazing. getting 8.5 hours of sleep each night without having to wake to an alarm blaring? AMAZING. getting to go for walks every afternoon? SO FLIPPING GOOD. I love it so much, I really really do. I need this to be my life permanently.

WORK

Work is just ongoing and draining and honestly, coming back to the office was so fucking stressful and it was only one day. Being at home is just the fucking bomb. Pending home decisions, I wanna go contracting I think, but also ideally two part time contracts to have more flexibility? I dunno. You'd think a big 4 would provide variety but it really doesn't and honestly, with Richie leaving, wellington is just a sinking ship. Sean's off on parental leave, Kirstyn is down to four days a week, ben will be gone if he doesn't get promoted (and I don't think he will be tbh). Jack is just muddling along, Nigel wants to swap to consulting as well, Matt's going to be a shit leader in terms of bringing in work so it's just not going to work. and in our wider group it's going to get even more messy with heaps of the analysts leaving and a couple of senior hires too. so I think it's probably time to jump ship in general, pending the home stuff below. Also, coming back after a break again, I'm like, I don't actually like a lot of you? All the people I enjoy here are in other teams and groups, and I'll be sad to leave you all, but like, not enough to stay anyway lol.

Pending the home below, two options are to just going and get a job with a $30k payrise to make up for the maternity leave benefits I'm gunna leave behind when I leave this role - 18 weeks full pay, $100 a week for the first year back and a full year of maternity leave. It's basically 30k post tax which is a bit nuts to walk away from to be honest.

Otherwise the other option is to go contracting. Less security overall but holy shit so much money. If I went in as a project coordinator at the lowest rate to build up a bit of a portfolio I'd need to work 40 weeks of 40 hr weeks and Id basically match my current salary plus the lost family leave benefits and still qualify for govt maternity leave payments. Realistically I could go in as a project manager for $140 an hour ($60 more an hour than the above math) and absolutely smash it at that level as well so ya know, there's a bunch of other info. I like the idea of the flexibility of it and only having 6 months even if its a shitshow and beign able to walk away at the end of it. I really don't want to get a govt job and this is a v govt town which is fine but also, if I can avoid it that would be great. I just know I'm not gunna thrive in that environment.

Need to talk to Dave to get him across the line on the security issue part of that though. I've mostly come a long way in terms of my financial management (thanks YNAB) so I think he'd be ok with it mostly.

So there's a lot to toss up there because......

HOME

We got the reno plans done during lockdown, finally. which was super good. but holy fkn jesus $$$$$$ ++++++++++. The guy is coming around for the final quote on Thursday. We indicatively said $100k total because we're doing kitchen laundry bathroom and toilet. so only the most expensive rooms and when I was talking to him last week he said 'that might cover it' and they're seeing cost escalations of 7-10% a week which is just insane. we're not doing anything structural apart from putting in a cavity slider in the bathroom, and the quote they'll give us won't include flooring since they won't do it.

Meanwhile, the prefab homes I were looking at for our site were $425k fully done. Like, I'm not going to spend $130K on doing up my 1940s ex state house ya know? That's not good cost benefit ratio.

So depending on what that comes out at on thursday we'll be able to make some plans.

We also want to start trying for kids next year and need these renos done first - I am not having kids and no dishwasher lol.

Also we need bank financing so good to be in a permanent stable job for that application. the good thing is we have so much equity we know we can borrow whatever we need, I just don't want to spend that much money on it because it's fkn ridiculous. and if I'm going on maternity leave we need to be able to cover it all on dave's salary and whatever benefits I have as well so there;s a lot of financial planning and spreadsheeting going on at the moment lol. it's fab.

either way. we've got plenty of options up our sleeve. we've got friends who's brother owns a building company so we can talk to them, we've got the garage so we can get things prefabricated even if they're not installed til next year, Dave can get shit at cost through his work for whiteware, there;s plenty of things to like cost control we can do, we just need to know where we're starting from basically. thats the challenging part. but we'll figure it out, its just taking longer than I want it to basically.

We also planted up the vege garden for the spring/summer which was lovely, super jazzed about that. we've finally got the garden to a reasonably low maintenance level where everything is mostly under control and it's such a relief, honestly.

PERSONAL

Man what a shift to lockdown last year honestly. I think the last 8 weeks in particular has just been like, a massive reality check of how absolutely shit the last year was and how fucking glad I am to be rid of it. I spent a week absolutely spiralling 2 weeks ago now and honestly, I don't know how I lived in the state for more than a year. I actually don't know how I did it. and I could not be more glad that I'm finally on the other side of it, for the most part. There's still a bunch of other stuff to work through (hahahahahaha when is there not like damn) but fucking hell its nice to just not be anxious and nauseous and wound up constantly. life is actually accessible. miracle.

My workmate had his bebe - I went round and got newborn cuddles and was like, oh, is this what it is to be clucky? this is odd. so there's that as well. I think we'll probably start trying next year pending renos and jobs etc. If the renos can be done in jan I'll prob just stick it at the job to get the benefits but I dunno. it's a tough call to make really. we shall see. This all assumes we get knocked up without any issues which is questionable these days. I really want to feel healthier before getting pregnant as well, and part of that is losing weight. however, given discussing that is what triggered the spiral we're working on that one slowly.

Also, lets have a moment for counselling, because fkn bless anne and all her hard work honestly. I actually ended up emailing her being like, I;m losing my shit on the monday and then talked to her on thursday. And its so funny because it's such a counselling thing but I didn't realise until afterwards what she'd done but she was like you're clearly not doing well and then the night before dave got a fkn miserable migraine and he was up for like, 2 hrs powerchucking except he didn't make it to the bathroom in time so guess who was cleaning up vomit at 130am trying not to chuck herself but I digress. anyway, not doing well, couldn't even explain why, didn't even have words and super tired and she's like, what lynaire up to this week how's she going with izzy and chat about that and then be like how are you feeling about your body and then 5 more mins of chat about the cat and the chickens and then like bam hard question and then hows it going with x and y and z and its like, it wasn't til I was on my walk afterwards when I FINALLY started feeling marginally better I was like damn woman work your magic for figuring it out for me and helping me reregulate. all over the phone as well since we were still in lockdown. GREAT WORK FRIEND.

and then last week was like totally fucked theoretical discussion about religion and the role it's played in my life and fate vs free will and all this nutty shit but genuinely just a great discussion. She's the best and I love her. thank good for good counsellors. thank god I can afford to pay for it honestly.

Dave and I are just chugging along, god bless that man. I love him. its amazing. I miss having friends close by but understand why they had to move (boooooo f u house prices). Family is pretty chill, still not really talking to dave's parents which is nightmarish but we'll deal with that when we need to. gunna have to go and visit them at some point coz dave misses them and I feel for him, I really do. It's the whole boundaries renegotiation I went through with my family last year post wedding blow up and its just not a fun place to be. oh well. can't fix it for him but also I'm not putting up with that level of BS from either of our families once we have children. not gunna happen.

Either way, life is busy and full and fun and I'm enjoying it. Daylight savings starts this weekend too, its october next week WTF and I'm just waiting for 4pm to find out what's gunna happen to our girls trip. Clearly we cancelled our sept trip to christchurch and akaroa and hanmer springs so my covid travel curse continues. fkn ridic. Still dunno what we're gunna do with $2500 of flight credits coz if we get knocked up theres def no international trips happening any time soon.

even the WORDS studio ghibli steampunk inspired 4th age au is intriguing to me - I’d love to hear more about it!

I am so pleased you asked and I will talk about it forever. Basically, the idea is just something I write on--a paragraph or two here or there--when I'm feeling down and need a pick-me-up, though I haven't done so since May now as I've been so busy! It's set in a 4th Age Middle-earth in which all the basic things are the same, except that the technology advanced slightly differently, as if every major cultural and intellectual hub in history hadn't been wiped out in the first two ages. I mean, they have been, but the ideas were revisited and propagated instead. Which puts us in a bit of a steam era, a bit more modern warfare, I suppose (I imagine it as, like, Legend of Korra equivalent technology, but subtracting the radio broadcasting). I call it Studio Ghibli inspired because, in my head, thats the way its "animated," with similar color palettes to, say, Howls' Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, and Spirited Away. The same sort of observational attention to detail, but not overwrought, and an air of the magical in the every day... It's really just a domestic sort of thing, with an added twist of the Straight Road being shut for purposes that aren't entirely clear to me yet but, somehow, tie into the technological aspect. It, at least, explains to me why the elves are so goddamn committed to technology and Middle-earth in the 4th age, in this universe, in a way that aren't in non-AUs because, well, Tolkien. The lore of this ridiculous sandbox is only very slowly evolving, but giving elves unresolvable sealonging is a certain type of hurt/comfort that is highly attractive to me. Whoops. And it is Legolas- and OC-focused, of course, because that's just who I am as a person. There is also a university in Minas Tirith because I say so, and because I need to project my woes about academia somewhere, but I try to justify this to myself by tying it into that preservation and propogation of knowledge aspect. Anyway, that was way more than you asked for! Ah well. Here is the first scene I ever wrote in this AU, because I've never actually shared it publicly, I don't think. I believe @roselightfairy has been the only one privy to my nonsensical AU drafts thus far! I usually just ramble about it in tags, but you caught me this time, ha. Thanks again for asking!

Legolas twisted the ring on his index finger distractedly as he waited for the train. It had been a long day in Minas Tirith and he was ready to return to Ithilien, to take in the rolling plains that edged the river as they flew past, for it was always only then that he could reflect, in uninterrupted silence, without hobbit tourists at his heels or the accidental shove of an impatient lady in the shops.

There were too many people in Minas Tirith for Legolas. Accordingly, and much to Aragorn and Gimli’s chagrin, it was not his favorite place.

But they understood, and that was all he could ask. He tried to schedule all of the city errands on the same day or two, because longer than thirty-six continuous hours in Minas Tirith and he became an absolute nightmare with which to coexist. For the most part, his friends and family had accepted this and he was trying, after all, but that did not make it any less obnoxious for the rest of them.

It did not help that the only place in Gondor with Sealonging-certified healers was on the fourth level of the city. A wildly insensitive choice, in his opinion, though he kept that perspective well enough to himself after Ithildim and Gimli had tried to advocate, a few years before, for the relocation of the clinic to the Healing Houses on the Sixth, in a string of rejected proposals at City Council.

Gimli would not look at Aragorn for a month after that, and so Legolas had quit his whingeing and suffered in silence the abrupt buffeting that occurred in the busy streets after his appointments. He made it his own prerogative to schedule at the end of the day so he could spend the morning with enough wherewithal to do his errands and take care of whatever sundry things he had managed to commit himself to. It kept him relatively sane and it kept his friends on speaking terms and, so, that is what he did. (And it was not as if any of them had control over the West-way being shut, so there was no point in any of them falling out over it.)

Legolas heard the heavy-huffing of the train approaching long before its lights rounded the bend of the river. He preferred to walk to the stop at the Docks than get on at the Gates because it gave his mind time to settle. Waiting that close to the river after therapy was, perhaps, not his brightest idea, but the pros outweighed the cons and what Ithildim didn’t know wouldn’t hurt him.

Besides, it was Summer, and the cattails were up again all around the station, and a family of osprey had made the light pole by the river their nest, and it did lift his spirits to watch these things alone as the world moved on about him...

A few more people rushed the small platform as the rumbling of the train on its little steel bridge above the banks increased. Legolas only readjusted his ring, unbuckled the satchel in his lap and rummaged around for the hardtack he had bartered for Ewessel. (She would have no idea how many pieces were there originally—what she didn’t know also wouldn’t hurt her). He was just tugging on the pair of oversized leather earmuffs Gimli had given him a few years prior when he started taking the train routinely when two pairs of very familiar shoes suddenly appeared in his line of sight, and he froze—

There was no point in hurrying—he had been found out so he adjusted his earmuffs and tucked the hardtack into his cheek, noticing vaguely that the sturdier pair of boots were well-shined and dirtless, while the more slender, elvish ones were caked in mud along the edges and splashed up the shins.

He had thought Ithildim was in the Emyn Arnen buildings today. He had seen him head off that way through the trees and he had obviously been there for that was forest mud and yet here he stood with Gimli, clearly just come from their Minas Tirith office so...

He had apparently been wrong. It would not be the first time he had lost track of other people’s schedules.

The train rolled up slowly, then, and Legolas finally looked up from his seat on the bench to find Gimli at eye level—glaring at him with arms crossed—and then, looking further up, was Ithildim—hair neatly pinned back despite his other uncharacteristic untidiness—and he looked down on him with a bemused and mildly irritated expression.

Legolas did his best to offer a guileless smile.

It did not work, and Ithildim pulled him to his feet. “I thought your appointment was at 4(?), auren.”

“It was,” he said, and he shrugged. He was tired and did not want to talk yet. “I prefer walking the plains for an hour or so after, to calm my mind. I did not know you would be here.”

“You do this every time?” Ithildim asked with eyebrows raised, and then Gimli was chivvying them forward as the train doors opened and the inward-bound commuters poured out and the outward-bound ones moved forward.

“I did not know you would be here,” Legolas only said, shrugging, as they found a small table in the back of the car and piled around it.

Ithildim opened his mouth to ask again but Gimli interrupted—

“That is answer enough, Ithildim,” he said softly. “Leave him be, hm?”

“But—”

“He is always back to himself by the time he gets home, is he not? Let him do what he needs to do. He is his own keeper, Ithildim.”

Legolas was no longer watching them, and he instead stared out the window as the train moved forward and he was rocked slightly as it picked up speed. He did not notice the sound of a crinkling bag or the half sandwich Gimli slid in front of him. He did not notice Ithildim watching him wearily but intermittently as he arranged his notes on the small table, comparing a neat chart to x’s drawn on a map spread across its surface.

Outside, the sun was dipping dark but his mind was far away, and his mouth felt dry as he finally blinked and turned away from the flashing landscape.

Gimli had placed a reassuring hand by his thigh as he leaned over Ithildim’s map, and Ithildim was watching him unashamedly, silver eyes narrowed as Legolas glanced at him.

He pulled a travel mug from his backpack and handed it across the table to him.

“I take medicine for this now, you know,” Legolas said quietly, and he considered the coffee and tilted his head, waiting for Ithildim’s reply.

“I know,” he said immediately. “But you have that look in your eye that you get when…”

“Ithildim, he is his own keeper,” Gimli interrupted firmly, and Ithildim looked away. “That being said, Master Elf, it is summer again—“

“I know that—“

“—and the weather folks are predicting a mighty storm this week, which is probably why you are like this.”

Legolas picked up the coffee without a word and reluctantly drank it, and he twisted his ring again as Gimli continued:

“I’ve told Aragorn again and again that he would be much better served employing you lot for storm prediction than the fellows he has but…” he trailed off, and Legolas smiled.

“But he thinks it is unethical to use a bunch of Sea-longing elves for the protection of king and country, yes,” Legolas finished. “Honestly, those of us who are afflicted are going to suffer whether or not he consults us, so I’ve never understood his reticence.”

Ithildim looked up again and was finally smiling. “You are a bit like a barometer, in that,” he admitted. “Gimli has a point here.”

Legolas laughed. “So, what? We wait until I become uncommunicative and morose and a general pain to be around, and then we send Aragorn a warning letter? What, set smoke signals?”

“This is our stop,” Gimli was saying as he folded up Ithildim’s map and notes and shoved them into his hands. He stood up and gestured at the elves to join him. “Normal people would use the message systems, Legolas, but since you refuse to—”

“Really, Gimli?” Ithildim had pulled Legolas to his feet and was dragging him by the hand out the door. The wind was heavy beneath the eaves of the trees that overhung their stop. “We are lucky he only uses birds. Otherwise it would be constant updates about the exchange rate of rye, or flash-pictures of bread, or flowery descriptions of some lady he met in the gardens!”

As they started down the side path to the houses they shared with Saida and the children Legolas laughed again. “It is mushrooms I am fascinated with right now, Ithildim. It is painfully obvious sometimes that you do not listen when I speak.”

“Mushrooms?” he asked, turning to Gimli.

“That is his current passion project, yes. Have you not been in the downstairs bathroom recently?”

“Thank you, elvellon. I am so relieved someone listens to me.”

“Eru, Legolas, you know the downstairs bathroom is supposed to be for Ewessel so she doesn’t slow anyone else down in the mornings.”

Legolas had walked past them now and was several feet ahead as the main house came into sight. He shrugged and turned, walking backward. “It was her idea, Ithildim. You can take it up with her. I am in her good graces now, and I am not playing with the fire of adolescence to tell her no on your behalf.”

Gimli was laughing now and then Legolas had turned and took off toward the house. By the time they arrived a few minutes later, the lights had all been turned on or lit and Legolas was at the kitchen table with Ewessel herself, helping her with her schoolwork.

He barely looked up as they entered. “Stew on the stove,” he said quietly, and Ithildim sighed to hear the distance in his voice.

The door swung in again as Saida came in with Alfirinion at her heels—

“Smells like rain,” she announced as she slipped off her shoes and dropped her bag to the ground.

Alfirinion was just unloading his bag and armful of books onto the table inside the door when the house shook with a loud crash of thunder, and the building sound of rain—gentle to pounding and persistent—began to beat at the house.

Ewessel looked at Legolas, who had gone still beside her, and turned to her family. “I have known for days it would rain tonight. He is better than any weather report, if you are paying attention.”

“Ewessel,” Saida said with quiet admonishment, and she walked up and pressed a kiss to her niece’s forehead before settling down beside Legolas. “How about an early night?” she said to him quietly. “We can talk about our project tomorrow evening.”

Legolas cleared his throat and looked at his hands. “Yes, I think that would be good. The table isn’t…”

“Ewessel will set the table, won’t she?” Saida said lightly, and Ewessel closed her ledger and sprang to her feet. The dining room and kitchen were suddenly in motion and Legolas sat silent in his seat, until he dropped his head, defeated, into his hands, waiting for the sound of the rain to stop sounding like the crashing of waves at the shore.

“Tell us next time you notice, child,” he could hear Saida saying from the stove, and there was muttering under breath before Ewessel and Alfirinion were back in the room, placing a bowl at each seat.

There was the scraping of chairs around him, and then the feel of a cool glass pressed against his hand.

“It is just water, Legolas,” Ithildim was saying at his shoulder. “Drink, auren. The wide world is still here.”

And so he drank and ate and listened to his friends talk.

Alfirinion had had an argument with a peer at Rangers (though he had won, because debate team and shadowing Arwen over the summer had apparently paid off), and Ewessel was displeased no one wanted to see her forestry project (which, to be fair, was a log covered in mushrooms she had taken from Legolas’ project in the bathroom, so no one was particularly empathetic). Saida had made progress on curriculum redesign in her department at the main university, and Gimli and Ithildim had gotten clearance to start a project they were partnering on, to bring heated, running water to a new town outside Osgiliath.

Legolas, however, had only made stew. Had run errands for the family and for his business. Had gone to his appointment. Had lost himself to the wind and left his family fumbling.

But the stew was, at least, enjoyed, and that was better than nothing...

After dinner, everyone gathered in the sitting room to listen to Alfirinion practice his closing arguments for his competition and, eventually, Legolas fell asleep between Ithildim and Gimli on the couch. The last thing he was aware of was someone slipping headphones over his ears and dropping the needle on the phonograph so his senses were flooded with crackling birdsong, and then there was a blanket about his shoulders, and he was gone.

ETHAN

I looked at my father across the large cobblestone pathway leading to his throne. Flames flew from behind his throne, and flickered a vibrant red. He looked stern on his dark throne, with multiple engravings in it.

Today was it.

The first day of school in the mortal world.

I was beyond terrified than I ever have been. I only ever been to the mortal world to collect souls for my father, studying there seems even more traumatizing than that.

"Son," he called.

I took a deep breath in. I tucked my hands into the pockets of my jeans, and I fix my sleeves. My fathers black hair was just a bit darker than mine, and his eyes were a vibrant blue. The god of the underworld seems scary to most people: but to me he seemed like any other father.

"Are you ready?" He asked. I nodded, then he slowly got up.

He walked towards me, and down the cobblestone pathway. You heard his steps echo off the empty walls of the castle, and soon he was standing directly in front of me."Are you sure?"

"I mean, I'm already being forced-" I started but my father interrupted.

"You know about the-"

"Cyclones, Medusa, and all other monsters. I know. And Ares too... but wouldn't I just be safer here?" I argued.

"No, Ares knows you're here, if you want to be safe and not dead...you will do as I say. Now go on...the school day is starting," He pushed me towards the door, and I left the room. I walked through the many hallways of the castle until I got to the entrance.

I approached Persephone as I neared the door. Persephone was the motherly figure in my life, since father would never let me know who my mother really was.

"The mortals are waiting," she winked. We shared a laugh and then I left the castle.

The gloomy atmosphere of the underworld surrounded me as I walked away from the castle. A familiar growl makes me stop, and I look back at the 3-headed beast, guarding the castle doors.

Cerberus came up to me and I gently pet his. His black fur was soft against my fingers, and I definitely didn't want to leave now.I finally pulled myself away from him, and he whined a bit.

"I'll be back to visit in...winter break," I informed.

He groaned, but then went back to his favourite corner by the wall. The guards lead me towards the gate to the mortal world.

Once we got there, I stood in front of the white globe for a moment. Right now, I am ready to run back to the palace. I can take on Ares, nothing scares me so what will a pathetic god do?

Its for your safety, my father’s words are clearly heard in my head. Even the desperation in his voice is there. 

I sigh before entering the white fog.

AHANA

 I swallowed back the lump in my throat, and a metallic taste fills my mouth. 

School.

I stare at the bright red doors for too long, and someone pushes themselves against me. I come back into reality, and start walking in. 

Everyone was in their own groups, giggling and smiling. Hugs filled the air round me, while everyone acted like they didn’t meet each other yesterday.  I scoff at the dramatic couples, getting together and pretending they didn’t fuck almost everyday in summer.

Even though everyone was in their own shell, it still felt like there were eyes on me everywhere. 

I looked down at my sweatshirt (big enough to hide me) and jeans to check for any stains. I ran my hand through my dark hair, and made it look like I put no effort into it- even though I was up at 5am  to look yet this simple.

I walk into my first class. English.

I chose to sit in a desk close to the back, but not in one of the seats for the football players. Thats the first thing on the Doom List, next to being called out when you’re not paying attention, and saying ‘here’ for the attendance.

I make lists like that. It keeps me calm in a psychopathic way. It makes me feel like that by simply planing everything out, nothing will go wrong.

Suddenly, the class begins to pour in. group by group, they all come in and sit where they always do. As usual, I’m stuck sitting beside the football players. That means I have to occasionally turn my paper a bit for them to copy, but its the least I can do for not being bullied.

The bell rings, and the last people standing rush to their seats. Mr. Williamson sits down in his desk, and takes a good look around the class. I’v been in his English class since the tenth grade, and he’s the best teacher in the school. I remember Drew calling him Willy Wonka, and getting in trouble for it since Mr. Williamson thought it was slang.

“Okay class, attendance!” he informs. 

I gulp. Here comes the time that I’ve been practicing for. All I have to say is ‘here’ when he calls out “Ahana Posideon Ariti”.  I remember my parents and I choosing my last name and middle name since both of them have none.

“Ahana!” Williamson calls, and I snap back.

“Um, here!” I yell back.

Now the class was actually looking at me. I felt their eyes burn into my soul, and I lower my head in embarrassment.  The girls in the front corner stifle their laughs, and I glare at them. Suddenly I notice that they’re now staring at me, terrified. I look a bit surrendered, and quietly look down at my phone camera.

I realize why they were so scared, and I calm myself down; trying to get my eyes back to their original colour.

Mr. Williamson calls out names over and over again, but one catches my attention.

“Ethan?”

“Here,” the boy responded.

“Is that it? No last or middle name?” Mr. Williamson questioned, looking up at him. I turn around, and I gaze at his clear arm muscles.

“Um, no sir. My mother and father put me up for adoption, and I grew up at the...um.. orphanage!” he informed, stumbling at bit at some of his words.

Williamson nodded slowly, just as confused as the rest of us. Except for me.

This certainly can’t be him, I thought as I looked at the boy siting beside me. Might as well give it a shot.

My hand slips into my bag and I grab a piece of paper. I scribble The god of war can't get to us”, in Greek, and pass it over to him. He looks at me, then my outstretched hand. He takes the slip of paper, and reads it. He looks up at me, then the words tumble out of his mouth.

“Daughter of Poseidon, I believe?” he whispers.

I sigh in relief.

It was him- the son of Hades. 

And to my luck, I found him on the very first day.

Gym might have been the only subject in which I don’t fail.

Running laps around the field is dreadful for many, but I enjoy the push of my feet. By the end of the laps, everyone is panting except for a couple of us. The only girl not dying is Pepper, who is a cheerleader, and Ahana, the swimmer. 

I haven’t talked to many people other than my teammates, but I plan to change that.

Ahana stood with an unfamiliar face- another person who wasn’t dead. He looked muscular, and he didn’t talk much... unless he was talking to her.

Must be new, I thought and continued with the rest of the gang.

We started the school year the same as always in Gym: capture the flag.

Mr. Deis split us into 2 teams. Green and Blue. 

The new guy was on the Green Team along with most of the football team. Once the game began, people ran across the line, hoping to get a flag. My eyes stay on the new guy, and see him prepare to run. 

Suddenly, he dashes and I run after him. He sprints across the field, and I chase after him like a dog chasing its tail. Just as I was about to touch him, he disappears into thin air. I stopped running, and looked at where he was.

I wave my hand in the spot, and my eyes widen in disbelief. I look around, and see the swimmer have the same look as me.

I follow close behind the two. I wasn’t too close, just in case they get suspicious, but I was far enough to follow them out of the school and through the labyrinth of streets.

The two walked in a neighborhood that was a bit father from mine. I could hear the swimmer say a few things such as “you old home” and such.

I looked around, and soon no one was around them or me. I walked a bit faster, picking up my pace but not too loudly. Now, I was close enough to hear everything.

“I know that you’ll miss the underworld, but I think mom will be okay to let you go there on the weekends and all. Also, do you guys really have a three-headed dog? I’ve only ever been to Atlantas, so I have no idea,” the swimmer gushed. Now was the right time to pounce.

“The underworld, huh?” I say loudly.  The two stop dead in their tracks and look back at me. Their expressions were a mixture of fear and anger. The new kid looked at me in terror, and the swimmer stepped forward.

“You have no idea what that is,” she convinced. Suddenly, I was captured by her grey orbs, and I felt hypnotized. I looked wearily down at her hands, which were moving in an eerie grace. I was to enchanted to notice what exactly she was doing with her hands. 

I snap back, and suddenly the water floating above her hand falls onto the concrete. I blink a couple of times, and am back to the way I was before.

“What did you just do to me?” I asked, pointing at her then the water on the concrete. The I pointed at the boy. “Then there’s you with the disappearing. Can you please tell me what the fuck the underworld is?!”

“You don’t want to know, okay,” Ahana comes up to me, ready to pull the hand trick again. I wasn’t falling for it this time.

“Stop,” I say, pushing her hands away. “You two have explaining to do, and I think-”

I stopped and looked around for the same thing she was looking at.

But it wasn’t a thing.

It was me.

“What? You guys are scaring me,” I imply, laughing a bit to try and ease their gaze. But that didn’t do anything.

Instead, the boy’s eyes turned bright red, like there was a fire inside of them, and Ahana’s eyes were a bright blue. She pushed her phone into my hands, already on the camera.

I looked at myself. 

Everything was normal. My hair was fine, and nothing was stuck in my teeth. As I start to put away the device, I catch something in the corner of my eyes.

My eyes were golden.

Archive Project - May 9, 2014 - Neighbors Review

Neighbors, 2014. Nicholas Stoller 97 Minutes Watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kL5c2szf3E4 The Family vs the Frat Party! Who will win in this battle of Titans??? This is the set up to a stupid movie. Neighbors is not a stupid movie. Its actually pretty good! The film buff in me wants to point to the fact that the movie actual has motifs and well rounded characters that make the story interesting but that really isn't the central reason why it is good. Neighbors is good, because it is funny! Hilarious actually! One of the best comedies I've seen this year and a clear contender for the rest of the summer! That being said… there is hardly anybody I would recommend this movie too. Its a dirty, overly sexual, jerk-off comedy thats too hard of an R-Rated movie for teenagers and would probably push away most of the adults or religiously inclined people I spend time with on a day to day basis. The only demographic I would recommend this to would be Morbid College kids… Fortunately, I am one :P If I had to make a comparison for this movie it would be This is the End meets Spring Breakers. This movie lines up the best of Seth Rogen's comedic style with a neon-romantisation of the College-Party scene similar to that of Spring Breakers (though this movie is much less sexual than Spring Breakers…). Beyond just being a funny movie though it actually managed to be a good movie! Just about every major character is well rounded and sympathetic, with the exception of a few of the frat boys in the background. The real star of the show is Zac Efron who has clearly shed the caccoon of Disney star to form a fully developed acting persona. He is sorta unreasonably attractive as a human being but they do point it out to great comedic effect during the movie. The movie's ultimate concession that drags it out of just being a good comedy movie is the central motif of growing up. Seth Rogen's and Zack Efron's character have the opposite faults as characters. Rogen is a young at heart party boy that doesn't want to admit that he is an adult, while Efron is a party boy acutely aware that the fun he has now isn't meaningful and he seeks to makes the most of the little time he has left. Two sides of the same coin. This contrast gives weight to their actions and makes the characters feel more rounded, interesting and realistic than just being the good parents and the frat boys. So if your a horribly morbid individual between the ages of 18 and 25 i'd say you'll enjoy the movie! Its not really a life changing experience but for what your spending your getting an immensely funny movie. For me, its a welcome arrival after a few weeks of disappointing action movies to get something viscerally funny. Its definitely a good lead in for the rest of the month's big hits! Godzilla, X-Men and Million Ways to Die… Here I come!! Thank you for reading! Live long and prosper! PS. body and food and life rant, i dont request anyone read this bc i don’t like to spread my anxieties too much i just need 2 vent or at least write things down

i have this hope that my on-and-off availability of hormones and food over the past year just means that my boobs will be well-rounded but i have like no clue, idk where to even look for anecdotal evidence of this sort and it varies so much per person. i know some girls don’t really even get anything, and my mom herself is only like a B, but idk my mom has also been at best borderline anorexic her whole life and i KNOW diet and body shape & size are not necessarily related even long term but idkkkkk. my hope is that i started off super skinny and so hopefully i just try to work at eating enough and not binge/purging and being less skinny (which has been.. idk i have more than just pure muscle on my gut now) and things will go in the right places but things have been so unstable.

then there’s also the problem that my guts like,,, they’re not that bad but i need to really pay attention to my diet or my body starts to shut down, but i also just like… don’t know what’s a healthy diet, that i can afford, that i will enjoy. and like all these things are necessary bc otherwise im just not gonna eat (except if someone gifted the food to me each day in which case id compulsively eat it regardless of how i felt that day… and would that really be better?)

the only way i know how to get in touch w my body (which is like a key daily component of diet imo) is by pushing it to its limits physically, like usually thats been thru running but i cant rly afford running calorically nor physically/monetarily and also its contradictory to what i want, but i don’t rly know any other mode of pseudo-health than pushing my body to exhaustion as often as possible. tbf im tired 24/7… also i partially blame that on the shitty food i eat here, which is like half just whatever and half organized around state food guidelines which are fucking bullshit and dont even get me started on my paranoias abt these things but i dont rly have control of most of what i eat rn and like i mentioned i have a lot of trouble denying free food, ill eat until i get sick, idk idk idk idk i need a therapist who’s actually gonna help me not these CBT idiots who just reenact the same pseudo-interrogation and brain washing shit i had to deal with my whole life, like i’ve pretty much been exposed to an even more sinister CBT my whole life i really really don’t need more it isn’t gonna help, yughhhh

anyway i might not be so impatient but because of where im living and because of how bad i want intimacy (which chest dysphoria definitely cuts into my confidence super significantly) i just idk ugh

i think itd help if i start going out again more, cause also ive started collecting unflattering skull angles again, and everything worse makes everything worse, but also going out where? im such an absolute bum at this point. i know this city in some ways better than ppl who have been here for years but in other ways its completely opaque. and i know by the end of the summer ill turn 21 but idk that bars are rly the solution i should b looking for (and $ is still an issue). cities are too social, idgi.

oh and then there’s the issue that it seems like everyone here is an art queer and it’s like… i appreciate that a lot, i admire it, but that is definitely not the world im coming from, and i love art and queer art, i think its the most important stuff in the world but also uhh idk i don’t think that means i have to understand and appreciate queer art culture.

but anyway it’s like a major insecurity also, like all these (post)college queers who r becoming-person and i know im only 20 but on the contrary i feel like im dissolving. like i read all these niche books but honestly im still trying to grasp at any fragments of a life i can, i have no real connection to my high school friends, im not sure what happened w my friends at the first college i went to, it was like the liked me and i was connected w diverse groups but i was always rly auxiliary even w the ppl i spent the most time w and i think those ppl ended up having something against me(?) bc they ended up being way closer to my ex-gf and her annoying racist and homophobic family, u know what good for them actually, and then the second college i went to i still am connected to my gay friends but its like…. not rly a thing that shows up materially and i rly don’t feel like i can go to them for support. or like i try to and they’re sympathetic but idk it doesn’t feel right.

and then! i used to be a major computer geek, specifically i was on my way to being super knowledgeable in computer languages themselves (i was trying to write a post-grad level paper on macros w ppl in france and sweden @ 18) but that fell apart for a bunch of reasons, now i have trouble focusing on computers at all. so i tried to move more into my skills w math and develop those but thats rly impossible w/o a lot of resources and space and teachers tbh! and now im reading all this philosophy but honestly its awful, and the thing is none of this stuff is practical or interesting unless yr already in a certain position of privilege which i was trying to get but now i feel like is impossible not just materially but after having butted my head against the psychological barriers too, and its rly against what i want

MORE miscellaneous thoughts and ideas for Changeling Sim!

* If I decide to set the story in the UK, maybe the de-stress holiday options could be different to reflect it? Just having spring/summ/autumn/winter holidays was always a bit confusing for me in Princess Maker, i am really bad at telling the time and i could never remember which time gave which stat boosts no matter how many times I played! So it could be neat maybe if you can just pick between different types of holiday that give different stats. But maybe still have a few random cute splash images for them, which change each season even if the stats don’t. * Anyway i was thinking an option could be ‘farm’? Or like.. ‘country’? Whatever way to phrase it would contain the most types of holiday, lol. i remember I always really adored these as a kid, so maybe they get a bonus depending on how low the kiddo’s age is? Splash images could be her feeding a baby goat, maybe doing some horseriding, maybe doing a pottery course cos they had one of those at my local model village. Speaking of which, maybe have a model village one where you get a lil bonus historical education along with your goat hugs! * And maybe an option could be a theme park or holiday home type place. i cant remember what the official term for those is, I always used to call them all Butlins just cos Butlins was the one we visited most often as a kid. My grandma lived nearby. It was like a sort of thing like disneyland? Like a theme park so big that it has multiple areas and on-site hotels and youre meant to stay there for the weekend and stuff. Except butlins isnt big, its just that its common to have these things even for small ones here. Its like.. the closest thing we have to american ‘summer camp’? Except its a whole family thing. But it has all the activities and sports areas and stuff, and you’d stay for a weekend up to a month. And have lil cabins. Also i laugh at how my perception of the word cabaret was completely backwards thanks to these places! The little kids’s singing and standup comedy thingie at butlins was called the cabaret so I thought thats what it meant. Rather than it being a word for raunchy adult dances that was kinda used ironically here XD * or maybe just have a regular day trip small theme park thing as an option. That’s like the most common family holiday in modern times, right? It could give me a fun chance to draw some references to real life ones I went to as a kid, like Thorpe and Oakwood and Barry Island! And lots of potential for different cute splash images, there could be a family rollercoaster ride pic that fills up more and more as you make more friends throughout the game! See everyone’s comical reactions! And omg, a haunted house and maybe like a log plume or other water ride? And just a pic of everyone eating terrible theme park snack food and being buried in merchandise because wasting all your money is what holidays are really about! * Oh and while I’m thinking about it, maybe make the currency actually be british pounds and follow rational money logics? like £50 for the cheapest farm trip holiday up to £300 or so for the weekend camp one. Not 300 gold for a single book, lol! rpg currency doesnt even match up to yen properly, stuff is just way too cheap instead of way too expensive XD thats like a £5 sword, lol * Also even the holidays that stay the same could be a bit different if I try making them more british! like we could show a big ol grey british pebble beach and have everyone drenched under an umbrella like ‘well this isnt exactly what i imagined’ XD Tho those can be really fun too if the weather is okay, theyre fun all year round instead of just summer! You can find fossils on the shore, and see more crabs and seaweed and stuff! But you dont get to build sandcastles so i’m glad there’s still a few proper beaches around the country lol. * Oh and I probably wont have any sort of beach fanservice cos even if i wanted to throw it in for other people’s enjoyment its not like I’ve had much practise drawing stuff I hate, haha! But I could just double up on the funnycute family antics instead. Having the mother character be an actual presence in the plot makes it a lot easier, cos I could include her in these scenes instead of having to keep her face hidden 24/7. And cos she’s miss buff former hero of the human world, we could have her like... carrying a giant pile of supplies in winter holiday and being all overprotective, running around weilding one of those giant beach umbrellas like a lance in summer, trying to pick a fight with a bull in the farm holiday. generally just being a funny background event! The mum who’s more immature than her kid XD * Maybe take something from other games in the genre like Prince Maker Braveness and Spirited Heart, and add a £0 indoor relaxation option to the holiday menu? Like, not all stress relief HAS to be a holiday. And maybe make the ‘wander around the local shops’ holiday give a small stat boost to outgoingness or charisma or whatever its called, while hanging out indoors raises studying but doesnt decrease stress as much and has a chance of decreasing your social skills if you do it too much. Maybe every holiday could have a chance of not working if you do it too many times in a row? or maybe that’d be too annoying gameplay-wise, even if its more realistic. Sometimes realism needs to be suspended in favour of fun! * Also i liked that in Spirited Heart you could explore in a (non-monster-infested) forest for a holiday! Maybe that could boost magic stats a little? I also remember how the old flash game My Pet Protector had a thing where you actually had to find the different holiday locations while dungeoncrawling before you could use them. Tho i didnt like how it was random whether the flag would activate, so you had to keep going back to the same dungeon. Unnecessary awkwardness! * Maybe a random chance of friend characters appearing in the background of holiday splash screens? It would make it less boring to see the same pic again and again during a long game with lots of replay value, yo. Or other randomized minor features getting swapped out, like kiddo playing with a different animal at the farm, or whatever.

My Experience With Transitioning

fuck me im just copying and pasting what I’ve done up until now

Info already so right now i think im nonbinary but i think i might be completely trans idk (edit later in time: i can say for sure I am completely trans, not just nonbinary.), ive felt this way for a while and my bud sen helped me figure it all out bc i was hella confused and i felt very masculine. A year and a few months ago I cut my hair super short and realized that this was how I've always wanted it because oh my god if i ever grew long hair again id want to die, i hate it and i hated how I looked. So that was that and i was like that for a while and I think sometime during the summer of 2015 i figured out what I wanted to be called (ryan). I started out w/ having people on the internet call me that and it was awesome, but kinda weird having people in real life call me by my birth name and it was really odd. Then October came and my stepcousin was getting married- during that wedding was when i told my dad and stepmum i wanted to be called ryan so I consider that to be the time when I actually started transitioning. It took a painfully long time to get my mother on board to be honest, her boyfriend (who is now her ex) was actually down with it right away but of course he didn't call me or my brother that because it would've been awkward, but we had some late night talks about it frequently. When they broke up it was kinda iffy but I think it was soon after that happened that she started calling me and my brother by our preferred names. At a party my parents went to one night they told all their friends about me and my brother and we've been enrolled in a study, which is 6 MRI's total. I've already had 3 MRI's and let me tell you, they suck, but I think later next year I'm gonna have to get my next round- just basically contribution to help trans people or anyone taking hormones to transition. This year I got into high school and I'm going to a place that's pretty far away from where my last school was, so no one there knows me or that I'm female- I'm completely authentic and I think that's pretty cool, it's what I wanted. So far I think that's all you need to know lmao if I have more info to put down i probably will. Thank you guys for the support, i love you <3 8/29/16 First injection of testosterone. No changes yet ofc, but I found that I was hardly hurt by the needle so now I'm a lot more excited lmao. (Dose amount is currently 0.1 ML) 9/5/16 Second injection. Of course, no changes yet, so there's not much to say except this was my first time doing it at home. stepmum did it tbh, it still surprises me at how much it doesnt hurt lmao 9/12/16 Third injection bois. No really noticeable changes yet however i think i have a bit more hair growth from where the bellybutton is down to the nether areas which is still something and I'll take it xD I'm starting to think I prefer shots in the arm tho. Surprisingly they don't hurt as much as far as I can tell?? it's pretty neat lmao 9/19/16 Still no noticeable changes. I can now say for sure that shots hurt less in the arm than the leg, surprisingly enough at least for me lmao one month b o i s 9/26/16 (sorry for being super late with updating this one) still no noticeable changes yet, dosage is still small as all hell >> 10/3/16 No noticeable changes that I can identify, but I have a friend who told me that my voice is deeper. regardless of that, it's not at all by much at least to me and there's still nothing super noticeable and it's rather irritating. 10/7/16 Not a shot, but my first MRI after getting the three baseline scans before I got testosterone. I got my blood drawn more than I ever have and it got to the point where my vision became brightly dotted and my ears started ringing like mad, it was awful, i thought i was gonna pass out. But the MRI itself was actually a lot better than my last three scans, theyve made so many improvements to make it less anxiety inducing. 4/6 MRIs done, 1/3 blood draws done. 10/10/16 SEVENTH SHOT OF T I'VE BEEN OVER THE MOON TODAY THO 'CAUSE I'M GETTING MY DANK ASS FRIEND A BINDER AS fOR the actual T, I haven't noticed any super big changes but my friends are like "yeah jesus christ ur voice is deeper" so I GUESS THATS THAT I also started recording my voice after the sixth shot so ill keep up w/ that too as much as I can 10/17/16 Still no noticeable changes to me, however we got new needles and the measurements are different and it's weird but ye nothing super exciting to say I guess hhh sorry for being so slow at updating this rip 10/24/16 This time the needle really hurt and idk why but oh well. Still no noticeable changes besides more hair growth on my legs and the happy trail area.
