Thanks for answering my ask from a few weeks ago @neonscandal ..... If you don't mind me asking (again), what are your top 10 (or top 7) favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series)? Why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before....

Not at all unique is the fact that, as soon as I get asked a question about my top faves, I immediately draw a blank on everything I've ever enjoyed or watched, ever. 😅 I'm sure that's not the first time you've heard that. No need to apologize, as you can probably tell from other asks, my answers change regularly. This is my anime/manga blog so without any regard for order:

Life Lessons with Uramichii-Oniisan (anime) - depending on how old you are, there's a cognitive dissonance that occurs when you're no longer younger than nor the same age as your favorite protagonists in the stories you grew up with. This is the anime that eases the blow of that like the ibuprofen you now keep at home, at work and in your purse. And it's hysterical.

Attack on Titan (anime/manga) - There is something to be said for the eloquence of the exposition in this story which, when you know Isayama spent years shopping his art around to no avail because of the roughness of his style, makes perfect sense. While refining his art, he had all this time to pore over the story, hide little easter eggs so there'd be one string that gathered up all seeming loose ends. Just an incredibly interesting story to unfold. It's the kind of thing you wish you could read again for the first time but that's laughable because, every time you read it, you notice something you hadn't the last time.

To Your Eternity (anime) - This is the Grey's Anatomy equivalent in anime. Like, oh. You're emotionally constipated and need a good cry? Pick an episode at random. Watch a whole season if you're really about that life.

Sasaki to Miyano (manga/anime) - TBH I tied between this or Horimiya. They are not the same story but hold similar places in my heart. What I love about Sasaki to Miyano is how delicate it is. Yea, slow burn, whatever. But no, it just kind of gives Miyano space to come to terms with himself and Sasaki is the safety net that accepts him in all forms. Can love be this sweet?

Goodbye, Eri (manga) - Fujimoto is off the wall. Chainsaw Man is an excellent representation of that. Seemingly unfocused and always good for some sort of shock factor. I've been wanting to write, for some time, about how Fujimoto is like a trickster of a genie but I'll shelve that for the time being. Goodbye, Eri's disjointed narrative as if told in photographs and the art style which shows movement despite its static medium. It's a really elegant piece with a plot twist you don't see coming because, of course you don't. That, in fact, is part of the whole message of the story, isn't it?

Ranma 1/2 (anime) - Nostalgia. This was the first anime I ever watched that I locked into. It started me on a path of drawing, it encouraged me to seek out other shows.. this series is what started it all wayyy back then (okay, not that far back then, this was in the 00's). Tsundere x tsundere, yes but also just the immediate identification with characters who couldn't authentically be themselves because they kept bending and breaking under external pressures. I could very much relate and empathize even if the chaos of their universe was too fanciful for my own. Also, pretty sure Rumiko Takahashi is the longest running mangaka with consistent chapters in Shonen Jump for the last 40+ years is wild.

Vinland Saga (anime) - I honestly don't even know what to say about this story. But I think my favorite observation is a post I saw someone make where they wrote "No one will know the violence it took to become this gentle" with a picture of Thorfinn. And they were so poignantly right. Phenomenally twisted revenge story that is not at all satisfying. 10/10.

Link Clink (donghua) - This show is a vibe. If it hasn't been on a recommendation list yet, it's coming. The music, the art, the unfurling back story of the main characters as they untangle the lives of others? It manages to be both gutting and cerebral at the same time. Like every time I watch I'm like... I need to read the source material because the complexity of the concurrent storylines makes it such a head scratcher as to the larger plot.

Jujutsu Kaisen (anime/manga) - *Gestures vaguely to the rest of my blog.* We're still in the throes of how this story is going to play out which is nerve wracking and exciting for all its possibilities. I hold out a lot of hope that we'll see some stunning exposition in future chapters that we won't see coming.

Belle (anime) - It's just beautiful. 😘👌🏾 I talk a lot about my niece and nephew because I've turned them into my dorky little mini-me's. Also, being an aunt is like the best job. Belle is a movie that had them both gagged with the animation. If a show or series can get both of them to put their ipads, books, art supplies, etc. down, then I know I put them onto something special. Honestly, anything I enjoy with them makes it that much more special to me, personally.

🐌 What is one of your smallest writing goals?

Honestly, I think the smallest writing goal that I have is to make sure that I actually write something: be it on paper, on screen, etc. It could be a short phrase, an outline, or even a list of ideas. Basically, as long as I can get something concrete down, there's a higher chance that I can actually get some writing done.

🍄 Are there any fandoms you've never written for but want to try?

Hmmmm.... I would actually like to write something for Life Lessons with Uramichi-Oniisan. When I watched the anime, I was absolutely floored by the sheer amount of humor, existential crises, and slice of life shenanigans could be packed in one story. I haven't read the manga, but I heard that it delves more into the characters' backstories.

As an aside:

Kumatani has my heart. What cemented it for me was when he punched his boss out for picking on a helpless animal.

If I were to write for this fandom, I think I would concentrate on the relationships between the characters instead of x readers.

✨What's one area of your writing that you think needs the least amount of improvement?

Least amount... Geeze, this is a hard question. Because like... what I need to improve upon depends on the fandom? And what I'm writing for?

For example, if I'm writing an x reader for Yandere! Light Yagami, I know that my greatest strengths are the thoughts, feelings, and motivations of the characters. What needs improvement is basically how the plot will play out and how it will end.

Another, if I'm writing an introspective one-shot for Hetalia, I know that I will need to put in a lot of research regarding historical accuracy, accurate characterization, etc. However, I don't think I would need much improvement regarding humor and shenanigans.

Really, it depends on how well I know the fandom and the characters. In general, I suppose... Characterization and dialogue, I think, are what needs the least improvement. However, that doesn't stop me from striving to do better!

The thing I really like about Uramichi is that, yeah he can be a pessimistic guy, but he really does have a good heart and is capable of a lot of kindness.

Though a lot of times it's played off like a joke, there's no denying the seriousness of his anxiety and depression. And even though he complains, he still pushes himself every day for the kids. He genuinely finds joy being with them, and it's nice to see him giving them what he possibly didn't have as a kid. He says some things that aren't very, well, appropriate for them, but it makes HIM happy to see them happy.

He's also gets so emotional when one of the kids compliments him on just doing his job, and that's really sweet. (Probably the only authentic and heartfelt compliments he's ever really received.) It's also funny that it literally makes him cry.

To add on, Uramichi is deep-down a really kind person, whether he wants to acknowledge it or not. I'm very biased on him and Iketeru's friendship lol, but he means well with him. Especially when he tries his best, in his weird ways, to cheer Iketeru up and encourage him. And it isn't just a one time occurrence, he does it multiple times.

Yeah, him and his underclassmen's relationship isn't one to be desired, but he never seemed opposed to them spending time with him. He never kicks them out when they (Usahara) come over uninvited, and it seems that he hangs out with them/goes drinking with them on the regular.

Speaking of Usahara, yeah he messes with him, but when Usahara hurt his ankle, he was the one who noticed and checked up on him. They annoy the crap out of him, but he cares for them a lot.

And everyone forgets the scene with Utano in the manga😩(He buys one of her CDs, which was a really sweet moment).

Uramichi is just really complexed and deserves so much love and appreciation

A/n: It's weird that you saw that I am writing for Uramichi but you didn't notice that I don't write smut. Anyways, thank you so much for the request, I hope it is to your liking and also thank you very much for your compliment on my writing for Gintoki even though I don't know which one you are referring to

Pairing: Uramichi Omota x reader

Warnings: mentions of depression, stress

First of all let's make one thing clear, Uramichi has no idea how he actually got together with you. He never expected it.

He tries very hard to be a good boyfriend, attentive to your needs. He finally found someone who wants to stay with him after all, he doesn't want to lose you

In the early stages of your relationship he tried to quite smoking. Yeah it never worked out

He did start working out more though, mostly whenever you are with him so you can watch him

On that note, he likes it when you take care of him, handing him a towel to wipe his sweat with, a water bottle to stay hydrated.

Surprisingly enough he doesn't get annoyed when you complain about him smoking, he has seen the way you look at him or to be more precise, the way you stare at him with such admiration and a hint of lust

Usually he doesn't like talking about his job or his coworkers but you have caught him smiling while talking about the kids. That has happened a solid 3 times.

Isn't very big on dates. Sure he won't mind going out to a nice restaurant or to see a movie once in a while but he prefers it when you come over to his place to chill

He isn't very big on pda either. The most he will do while the two of you are out is hold your hand or (if he is in a good mood) hold you by your waist

He isn't really touchy when the two of you are in private. He loves cuddles and hugs and he loves it when the two of you cuddle in bed but he also appreciates his personal space

Loves kissing you on the cheek and the forehead

He isn't very observant. Unless you make it pretty obvious that something is wrong he won't pick up on it

Because of that, communication in your relationship with Uramichi is the biggest key to make this whole thing work

That man is always so tired and under the weather that he constantly neglects himself and as much as he tries not to, sometimes he neglects you as well

Not once has he forgotten a date, let's be clear, but he might forget to ask how your day was or he might not be completely focused while the two of you are together

When he actually realises that what he is doing is wrong though, he will be quick to apologise

He also won't talk about what is bothering him unless you ask him directly and even then whether he will give you a clear answer or not is debated

That man is depressed. That is the only thing he will be clear about from the start. He wants to make sure that you know that there will be periods of time when he won't be himself and that it has nothing to do with you

Anyways, you get to see him often. In fact the two of you spend almost every night together to the point where half of his things are at your place and vice versa

He has a picture of you, a very very random one, that always looks at whenever he is at work

Uramichi doesn't say 'I love you' often. When he does, it is always followed by a kiss on the lips and a big warm hug with him practically trying to make your bodies one

Dating Headcanons ft. Uramichi Omota & Mitsuo Kumatani

cat’s note: sorry this took me so long, anon. i suck at writing headcanons for some reason lmao

Uramichi

you met Uramichi when he came into the digital planning department after being sent to invite you to a work party.

You were talking (arguing) with Kikaku about some new toy design when he walks in, though the conversation continues

Uramichi is surprised when you get Kikaku to retreat and stop his yelling. Uramichi is intimidated by you, and yet he finds himself drawn to you at the same time

After talking to you he realizes you’re actually a very kind person. You just don’t take Kikaku’s shit and he respects you for it

He seeks you out at the work party and spends the entire evening talking to you. You’re so drawn to each other and find it super easy to have a conversation last hours and you were both sad when the party comes to an end

He surprises himself when the words “would you like to get dinner sometime” leave his mouth. But he’s even more surprised when you say yes. The rest is history

Despite what some may think, he’s not great at communication.

He’s been so used to handling his own problems that it doesn’t really occur to him that he should talk them through with you.

But, all you have to do is bring it up once for him to realize his mistake and correct it. It’s a bad habit, and it’ll take some time to break it, but he does his best because he wants to be the best for you.

Just because you’re dating doesn’t mean his depressive episodes will go away. He’ll have his days when all he wants to do is curl into bed and hide away from the world.

On these days, be patient with him. Give him his space but remind him that you will always be there for him

He’s for sure very playful with you. With other’s, he often comes off as quiet and closed off. But around you, he’s smiling, laughing, actually enjoying himself.

He’s a bit touch starved. Between his childhood and his unsuccessful love life up to this point, he’s never received much physical affection.

Because of this, he’s attached to your hip almost constantly. He’s always touching you in some way, whether it be his arms wrapped around your waist or your pinkies interlocked.

He’s not very big on pda though. He much prefers to leave his physical affection at the house. unless no one’s looking lol

You take a lot of evening walks. The quiet street, the cool night air, and his warm hand wrapped around yours. Yep, those are your favorite.

He’s the type that enjoys cuddling on the couch. Whether you’re watching a movie or sitting in silence, he doesn’t care. he’s with you, that’s all that he needs.

Mitsuo

You met him at the store when buying cat food

You were mumbling to yourself, trying to decide if you should get chicken or shrimp when Mitsuo walks up beside you to pick something up

He overheard you talking to yourself and ended up suggesting a food brand, which ultimately led you to talk about your new cat and show him pictures, which he thoroughly enjoyed

After that, you would bump into each other in the pet section every now and then until one day he just blatantly asks you out

He loves to take you fishing. Even though he’s the one who puts the bait on the hook and takes the fish off cause it grosses you out

No one does emotional support like Mitsuo. Anytime you’re upset about something, he’s right there beside you with his arsenal of things that he knows will make you feel better

There is absolutely no hiding your feelings from him. He’s perceptive, and when your mood shifts even a little, he notices. And there’s no point in lying or brushing it off. He knows, and you know he knows

He’s actually amazing at communication. He knows when to speak and when to let things be. And while he typically doesn’t speak on things, it’s different with your relationship. He knows how crucial it is and he doesn’t disregard it.

He’s mild when it comes to physical affection. He likes to cuddle, but it if starts to get too hot, he’s the first to untangle himself from you lol

When he makes out with you though? whew

He doesn’t mind pda, but he’s not super obvious about it. he’ll hold your hand around others just fine. but expect him to steal kisses the moment people look away

Despite being a usually quiet and reserved person, he’s very open around you, especially in private

You are required to watch every man-eating salmon movie at least once lol

Speaking of man-eating salmon, it makes him laugh. It’s one of the few things that makes him genuinely chuckle like a goofball. His laugh sounds like heaven

You two definitely start fostering cats. It accidentally started with 1, and then it turned into 3, and then into 5

You’ll go back and forth on the pros and cons of possible adopters, which will sometimes turn into silly, unserious arguments lol
