Let No Man Steal Your Thyme
When: 11:34 AM Where: Port of Incheon
The sea sang to her. It called her name.
Niamh stood at the end of the dock and watched as the navy water lapped at the algae-coated pillars. Looking at the water now was grief and solace at once. A dagger buried between two ribs. A comforting embrace - but the embrace, though genuine, only served to push the blade deeper.
Tumblr media
It was a warm day outside, she was wearing a black blouse and jeans, but inside she felt as frigid as though it were the dead of winter. Goosebumps rose on her arms.
Her brown eyes welled with fat tears - tears that were as salty as the sea she loved. Who was she without her seal skin? It was something so fundamental to her being, to her cultural identity, and he had stolen it from her. Like a thief in the night, he disappeared on the very same day he proposed, taking the skin with him. He who she’d loved and trusted with such a valuable hide; with the very essence of herself. I wanted to keep him warm, she thought. I just wanted to keep him warm.
A shadow on the water’s surface pulled her attention to the sky. A bird like none she’d ever seen before dipped overhead, and she was so enraptured by the sight that she hadn’t noticed the man join her on the dock. She glanced over at him with a slight start. “Oh, sorry.” She’s not sure why she’s apologizing; that was simply what she did these days. The back of one hand wiped the tears from her freckled cheek while the other clutched her great nan's necklace.

The aroma of garlic and rosemary filled the kitchen as you peeked into the slow cooker. Inside, a golden brown pot roast simmered in a rich, savory broth. Harry stood beside you, his eyes sparkling with anticipation.
"Smells amazing," he said, leaning in to steal a kiss.
You grinned, your face flushed. "Almost ready, love."
You stirred the pot gently, the vegetables bobbing up and down. The smell was enough to make your stomach growl.
"I can't wait to dig in," Harry sighed, his hand resting on your waist.
You chuckled, feeling a warm flutter in your chest. Cooking together was one of your favorite things to do with Harry. It was a way to spend time together, get creative, and most importantly, eat delicious food.
The kitchen timer buzzed, breaking the comfortable silence. You and Harry exchanged excited glances, both eager to try your masterpiece.
With oven mitts on, you carefully lifted the lid of the slow cooker. Steam billowed out, carrying with it the intoxicating aroma of pot roast heaven.
"Wow," Harry breathed, his eyes widening. "It looks incredible, darling."
You blushed, feeling a surge of pride. You had worked hard on this meal, and it was definitely worth the effort.
Using two large spoons, you dished out the pot roast, vegetables, and gravy onto plates. You couldn't help but admire the way the light glinted off the rich, brown glaze.
Harry took a bite, his eyes widening with delight. "This is amazing, love! You outdid yourself."
You smiled, happy to see him enjoy your cooking. You took a bite yourself and couldn't help but agree. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the vegetables were perfectly cooked. The gravy was so rich and flavorful with hints of garlic, rosemary, and thyme.
As you ate, you talked and laughed, enjoying each other's company. The slow cooker pot roast was the perfect centerpiece for a cozy night in, filled with love, laughter, and delicious food.
Later, as you sat by the fireplace with a glass of wine, you couldn't help but feel grateful. You had a wonderful man by your side, a beautiful home, and a delicious meal to warm your belly. Life was good.
"Thank you for dinner, darling," Harry murmured, pulling you closer. "It was perfect."
You leaned into his embrace, your heart overflowing with happiness. "It was my pleasure," you whispered. "I love cooking for you."

Yess! “Draco will buen the world down for Hermione” is my favorite trope it’s needs it’s own tag lol. Do you have any other recs of fics like this? I want them all. Also, thank you so much for what you do here with this blog
Night Of The Hunter by QueenVulca - M, WIP - He’s evil and he knows it. He knows he can burn the world for her, he can be good for her, he’s crazy about her, wants *only* her. She has his fidelity.. What more can you ask from an Incubus?
I will burn the whole world for you by katiekrum - not rated, WIP - I'm breathing your tears. You are healing my scars. He bent down so he could whisper into her ear. "I know Ronald Weasley was your first love. I'm asking you for a chance to let me turn our friendship into something more. If you let me, I'll be your last love."
Beyond The Garden's Veil by Ladyamethyst91 - E, WIP - Draco Malfoy lowers his wand and drops Harry’s limp body face-first into the sand. I’m so overcome with the thrill of hearing Harry’s immediate groan that I don’t even panic that a Death Eater has followed us here, wherever ‘here’ is.  “Penance,” says Draco, rolling Harry over with his boot. “The Chosen One in exchange for safe passage to wherever the fuck the Order’s headquarters are stationed.” It’s the last thing I remember before my body gives out.
Tainted by Catmint and Thyme (Languish_Locked_in_L) - E, WIP - At sixteen years old Draco Malfoy manifested as veela. At seventeen he was forced to torture his mate. Eight years later, she showed up at his door. — A Dark Veela Fic
Bad Omen by ThedreamerandTheDance - E, WIP - Draco Malfoy was a Death Eater. Draco Malfoy defected to the order, delivering the Elder Wand to the hands of Hermione Granger. Draco Malfoy changed the war. Draco Malfoy was cleared of all charges. That’s what Lyra’s history books say. To her though, Draco Malfoy is her best friend. Her dancing partner. Her piano teacher. Her Father. And her Mother, well she’s her whole world. Fifteen years after the war, the Granger-Malfoys are happy. But there’s whispers circling. People gathering. Watchful eyes. Worried smiles. A pureblood uprising. A thirst to reclaim what once was.. But Harry Potter is no longer the target. No, the name on their tongue is different - a thirst for something new. A blood traitor. A defector. A man who changed the war. And his halfblood daughter too. But Hermione Granger-Malfoy no longer believes in morality. Not after everything. Not after the second war. And she’ll burn the world down to keep those she loves most safe.
Watch as I Soar by PhoebeADA - E, WIP - "I'm not good enough for you. But no one is. And most men, good or bad, have limits to what they would do, even for someone they love. I have none. No God, no moral code, no faith in anything... Except for you. I would do anything you asked. I would fight, steal, or even kill for you. Hermione, I would burn the world, if you asked me to."
-Lisa

thank you for tagging me, @onehelluvamarine 🩵
A band you don’t like that many others do: I cannot think of any bands right now but there are so many solo artists like the entirety of the current Top 20 Billboard Hot 100, I do not keep up with new music in any way.
A childhood memory that you remember vividly: riding a scooter down the front steps at my grandmother’s house for some reason.
Least favorite animal and why: gonna say it and be honest and take the hate, dogs. I think there are some nice individual dogs but overall I find them loud, annoying, messy, too needy, too disruptive. I refuse to ever live with one. I do have a phobia of another animal I won’t say because I don’t want people to send me pictures of it lol so I probably hate them more but I encounter dogs more so they’re on my nerves more often.
Hot fandom take: Aragorn is not THAT hot. there were hotter guys in those movies.
Do you wear any jewelry, if so, what’s your favorite piece: I don’t. I wish I did! I have a nice ring and a nice necklace but I don’t really wear them. I wish I had a like, a signature piece or something.
A movie others liked but you didn’t: recently, which I know I’ve mentioned, Past Lives is so well-reviewed and god I just really hated it, I’m sorry but I did.
Three things you love about yourself: I was once bold enough to sing Let No Man Steal Your Thyme a cappella in front of a group of strangers at a hostel. I once took an 18-hour bus ride just to see a movie (and then another 18-hours back). I’ve read all the Hercule Poirot books.
A place you hope to visit in the future and why: Wales. I think it just looks lovely. I was supposed to do a semester abroad there once but couldn’t swing it financially. I’ve been to England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland so I’ve got to go to Wales. I wrote a story that is set so much there! I need to see it for myself.
An actor that gets on your nerves and why: RDJ because he made terrible comments about Alejandro González Iñárritu, he defends the worst Chris, and he’s going to win an undeserved Oscar this year.
Things you’re excited for in the nearby future? I’m almost done the first draft of a novel/story I’m working on, so I am excited so have a first draft and then I’m excited to start the second draft.
Least favorite ship in a fandom you’re in: I never shipped Ted/Rebecca from Ted Lasso, never once even for a second.
What’s the most toxic fandom you’ve been in? I never wrote in it, just read and observed, but The Old Guard by far by faaaaaaaaar.
List three things you find beautiful about life: my nephew’s wavy red hair, when a cat comes over to you for pets, and watching someone hit a home run.
Any dreams for the future? I’d like to see my favourite football club, Man City, play live someday. I doubt I’ll get to Manchester maybe ever, but they’ll be playing in the US soon-ish so it will probably be a lot easier to see them there.
How are you really feeling today? I genuinely struggle with life every day. I wish it was in a cool way that made me stronger on the other side but it’s not. today was okay because I got to talk to a coworker I like (I WFH so I don’t talk to people a lot) and I went to the cinema that has the best popcorn in the world but I also am never actually happy and am always lonely which is a tiring existence.

A Maiden’s Lament
Come, all you fair and tender girls That flourish in your prime Beware, beware, keep your garden fair
Let no man steal your thyme Let no man steal your thyme
For when your thyme is past and gone He'll care no more for you And in the place your time was waste
Will spread all over with rue Will spread all over with rue
A woman is a branchy tree And man's a clinging vine And from her branches carelessly
He'll take what he can find He'll take what he can find He'll take what he can find
Let no man steal your thyme Let no man steal your thyme
For when your thyme is past and gone He'll care no more for you And in the place your time was waste
Will spread all over with rue Will spread all over with rue
A woman is a branchy tree And man's a clinging vine And from her branches carelessly
He'll take what he can find He'll take what he can find He'll take what he can find
youtube
"A Maiden's Lament", "The Sprig of Thyme", "The Seeds of Love", "Garners Gay", or "Rue" is a traditional English and Irish folk song cautioning the young women to protect themselves from men who would betray them. Using heavy botanical symbolism to communicate secret messages was very common in old times, as we can see in films like Enola Holmes.
✓ "Thyme" – Virginity
✓ "Red Rose" – Passion, love
✓ "Violet" – Humility and modesty
✓ "Willow" – Sorrow and despair
✓ "Rue" – Regret
✓ "Oak" – Strength

A little advice for the girlies on the app 🫶🏻
The right person will always wait for you. You don't have to prove yourself sexually in order to make him fall for you. I know virginity is a social contruct and it will never define your worth but don't give away pieces of you to make him stay. You are much more than your physical vessel. Seek relationships that transcend this 3D world.

Robin of Sherwood: The One With the Tallage and Scutage
Honestly, I think this show is at its best when it's doing Greenwood Shenanigans™ rather than what it has framed as the main plot arc with Herne the Hunter and the disturbingly phallic arrow of true Englishness or whatever. I should say: Greenwood Shenanigans™ and surprisingly detailed commentary on law. Unlike many Sheriffs of Nottingham in Robin Hood media, this one actually cares about when the hundred court meets, and about the adverse effects of cheating on grain revenues.
There's also a scene where the sheriff, checking over documents for signature, corrects the monastic scribe's Latin grammar, and I demand to know why more medieval media will not give me this pure and innocent pleasure.
Gisbourne, told to deal with the grain incident: “Shall I hang him?!?”
The sheriff, not paid enough for this: “...no.”
You can almost see his internal "That's not how any of this works, Gisbourne; he hasn't killed anyone, he's just... oh, never mind."
Meanwhile, Friar Tuck is complaining about tallage and scutage (yeah, Friar Tuck, you tell 'em!) and training the merry men and Marian in quarterstaff fighting. This, to be honest, is what I come to Robin Hood media for. That and outwitting the forces of evil. Little John has a girl in the nearest village and they're cute together. Ray Winstone as Will Scarlet continues to be a delight. Alan a Dale comes to the forest, singing grandiloquently of his woes to the tune I associate with "Let No Man Steal Your Thyme." The merry men immediately start roasting him, hilariously.
Alan a Dale: "Have you seen an innocent flower mercilessly crushed within a mailed fist??"
Robin and Marian, standing directly in front of him, shoulder-to-shoulder in the way of people who don't have to bother trying not to touch each other and don't want to, fail at trying to suppress their laughter, but politely do not say: no, they haven't, because she ran away to the greenwood and they're very happy together, thanks.

Today I:
Worked on herbals reading
Practiced Spanish and Italian
Worked a bit on restoration ecology setup
This evening, I was well enough to sing under the pavilion in my local park again! It has been SO long since I’ve been able to do that!!! I choose lots of echoey, minor key songs with dramatic dynamic changes and crescendos and tritones. Lately I’ve been learning folk songs, and I had quite a lot of material to select from! (My favorite to sing was probably Let No Man Steal Your Thyme, but I loved ALL of them.) Just your local musically inclined cryptid, singing with reverb in the dark.
🎧 Mastermind by Taylor Swift (and the entire Midnights album)
📖 In The Shadow of Man by Jane Goodall & The Green Witch by Arin Murphy-Hiscock
