Everytime I enter another Les Mis phase, I am forcibly reminded of the first time I heard of it, which was... okay so in Germany we’ve got these cheap little comic books for kids with stories revolving around, you know, characters from Ducktales. Perhaps in a bid to kindle an interest in Literature in the kiddos, they once published a child-friendly, heavily abridged version of Les Mis which I picked up when I was, oh, 8 or so years old. Instead of a rebellion there’s a fun treasure hunt, no one dies, and in the end Javert catches up with Valjean and tells him that he’s only been searching for him all these years to bring him the news that he’s actually been pardoned. “But you always ran away before I got a chance to talk to you” he says
