A prompt:
An AU where Katara has severe prosopagnosia (face blindness)
It's incredibly frustrating because she can't recognize her own family members and has to use other little markers to help identify them.
And then one day, Katara enters the recently opened tea shop and the tea server's face is so wonderfully distinctive.
She can't help but stare...but not for the reasons Zuko might think.
Hello anon! Thanks for the prompt!
Not gonna lie, I've SUPER struggled with this because I, like my father, have a memory for faces. Names? No. Faces? Haunt me. So this might be a bit rough.
Katara didn't understand why she couldn't remember faces, but from the time she was a young child, she struggled to remember the face of anyone she met. She spilled enough frustrated tears to drown Ba Sing Se over the course of her short life.
Once they realized what was wrong, Hakoda and Kya did everything they could to work with Katara. It's why her father started keeping his braids in the same place, on the sides of his face. It helped that Kya already wore the same necklace everyday. Hakoda made Sokka a whalebone necklace, so she could recognize him, too.
When they met Aang, it was easy to remember his tattoos. Toph was identifiable by the headband she wore that didn't keep her bangs from falling in her face. That, and the distinct layer of dirt she kept over her skin.
So when Katara walked into a new tea shop in the Upper Ring, she never expected to recognize someone.
But the second she laid eyes on him, she was overwhelmed with the feeling that she knew who he was.
She just couldn't remember how they knew each other.
The tea server looked nervous as he approached her table. His eyes kept darting between her and Momo, his hands wringing on the notepad.
Katara studied his face, willing any memory to remind her who he was. His gold eyes, still shifting about, looked warm. His skin was pale and his complexion clear, except for the angry scar over his eye. Katara felt herself frowning. Whoever he was, he'd been through a lot of pain.
"Good afternoon," said, drawing her from her study of him. "Welcome to the Jasmine Dragon. What can I get for you today?"
Katara tilted her head, trying in vain once more to recall who he was. "I'm sorry, but I can't help but feel like we know each other," she said.
He blinked, stunned by her statement. "You... you don't recognize me?"
Katara shook her head. "I'm sorry, it's a- a curse I have, I can't remember faces. Yours feels so familiar, but I can't place it."
He stood very still, as if frozen from the inside out, an awkward tension growing between them. Finally he said, "We did know each other."
"Did?"
He nodded. "Back when I was- when I was chasing after something I shouldn't have been. But I'm different now. I've changed. I'm trying to be better for my uncle."
Katara smiled warmly. "What's your name?"
"Lee."
"Well, Lee, I think I'd like a cup of jasmine tea." He nodded, jotting down her order. "And- and if it's ok, I'd like to try and get to know who you are now."
His eyes widened, a small blush dusting his unmarred cheek. After a moment he cleared his throat, ducking his head but she thought she saw a smile forming on his lips.
"I'd like that," he whispered. Meeting her gaze, his eyes were burning. "I'll get your order right in."
Katara grinned at him. "Thank you, Lee."

Encanto AU but in ATLA: Bumi is like Mirabel.
(Yep. I think I'm not the first one to think that the plot of Encanto would fit in the Gaang Family)
Like the title said, Bumi is Mirabel, because both of them had no bending/gift.
It would be when Bumi is young, still the oldest bro.
Aang and Abuela had some things in common, because both lose important people in a traumatic event, and both the world/village trust that they can resolve their problems and put what the people's need first of theirself. But, when Bumi didn't show any talent on bending, he feels worried. When Kya is born and grow up to be a waterbender, and then Tenzin...well, he focus in this two, specially Tenzin and the duties they had as the last airbenders.
Katara and Julieta are both healers, and in the AU Katara would try to make Bumi feel that he is part of the family even if he doesn't had a bending.
Kya and Tenzin are like Luisa and Isabela. Kya feels the pressure of help everybody for her waterbending (but still close to Bumi). Tenzin is the "perfect golden child", and with Bumi had a hard relationship. Aang would love that Tenzin and Lin would be a couple, and their "love story" is more like an arranged marriage since their childhood.
Pepa and Felix: I would said it, are Zuko and Sokka. Just because I imagine Zuko trying to be the FireLord and not showing clearly emotions and had to act like he is so calm, and not stressed. And Sokka, well, he is close to Bumi, and after getting married with the FireLord, is the person who accepts Zuko with his awkwardness. They had their daughter (thanks Mai), a shy Izumi, who is so invisible in her ways and after learning the abilities from Piandao and Papa Zuko (as the Blue Spirit), she hears everything about everyone. So, she is like Dolores.
But also Toph is like Dolores. Because she knows when someone is lying, and also she finds out about "that". She had Lin and Suyin, and is "close" to Suki. Suyin is a trouble child with her metalbending, a little bit mischievous, and Lin has the weight of being the future wife of Tenzin (Kya is in love with her, Toph knows that), but also wants to learn about kyoshi warrior's fight style.
And there is someone we didn't talk yet. It isn't Mai, neither Ty Lee. We are talking about SHH SHHH...
Wedon'ttalkaboutAzulaNoNoNoWE DON'T TALK ABOUT AZULA!
(A clue: she is with Iroh in House Arreste in his tea shop. Or is what the Gaang thinks she is)
Azula would not had visions, but follow Iroh in trip to the Spirit World (idk how they will do, but is Iroh...) and maybe she is less crazy. Maybe she cared about the child who is, in a certain way, as her brother. But with a better sense of humor.
So this is what I had in my mind. I want to draw and more things.
Just imagine the songs:
The Familia Madrigal---The Avatar's Family.
Waiting for a Miracle---Bumi singing about his wishes.
Surface Pressure---Kya/Lin being honest about herself.
We Don't Talk about Bruno---We don't talk about Azula, with Zukka(PepaxFelix), Suyin(Camilo), Tenzin(Isabela), Kya and Izumi(Dolores), and obviously Bumi.
What else can I do?----It would be with Tenzin, but...i think it would fit with Lin. (I almost forgot this song xd )
All of you---The entire Gaang and family.
That's the post :)
Tell me what you think about it.

some unorganised thoughts i have about the dirty dancing au:
Zuko has a summer job as a dance instructor on Ember Island, the rest of the year he works at Iroh’s tea shop
Sokka’s family stopped going to Ember Island for a few years after Kya died, but then they found out Aang’s never been so Katara and Sokka figure “it’s a demon we have to face”
Fuck it Sokka gets called ‘Baby’, it’s a nickname his mum started and no one wanted to let it die (i was gonna go for Wang but i can’t even read that without laughing)
Idk who owns the resort/hotel thing (maybe Arnook??)
Hahn is, like, weirdly nice to Sokka and Sokka’s kind of like “this may as well happen? but i will leave at the first chance of escape” and it’s kinda weird for him bc Hahn was an asshole when they were younger and Aang and Katara constantly make fun of the situation
He sees Zuko and Mai dance on the welcoming night and is like ‘<3 oh wow i am bisexual’
Runs into Ty Lee when he’s exploring and she takes him to the staff house where there is a fun little dance party going on (includes the classic “i carried a watermelon scene” bc it has such strong Sokka vibes but Zuko finds it endearing)
Ty Lee and Mai are together bc i fucken love Mailee
Zuko and Sokka both fall into gay/bisexual panic upon meeting each other properly and Zuko hides it by being snarky but then comes back and teaches Sokka how to dance (and then has to run away bc oh god he’s hot)
Mai can’t do the dance bc she hurts her ankle and Sokka offers to take her place for their dance thing, but he’s mostly joking until Mai and Zuko start looking at him like “hmm”
Mai can’t dance properly for a few weeks but she can still teach without dancing (cue the bisexual panic that i go through every time i watch the scene where Baby’s sandwiched between Penny and Johnny)
They do all the fun bonding things, like balancing on a log and practising lifts in a lake but with more cute banter and kissing bc fuck it they’re already together by that point
Sokka ends up getting mad insecure and self-hatey over not doing the lift which leads to a conversation about feelings bc these boys have trauma and I WILL talk about it
I’ve decided Katara and Aang know about Zuko and Sokka and have been covering for him/helping them hide it from management
Zuko later gets accused of theft and Sokka stands up for him by coming clean about their relationship so Zuko still gets fired but at least it was bc he broke rules and not bc he stole peoples wallets
Katara and Aang do a cute lil duet at the talent show thing
Sokka is pouting in the corner and then we have the classic ‘Nobody puts Baby in the corner’ scene eventhough the wording makes me laugh
Zuko’s essentially like “fuck y’all, i don’t work here anymore i can dance however i want” and then Sokka does the lift bc he loves and trusts Zuko
tagging @woollysokks bc they wanted to hear my thoughts :)

All the way from my notes app to you: An ATLA AU I must have created in the dead of the night but love all the same-
“Another Atla Au:
sokka has been off to boarding school for like the past year or two bc he’s a genius and all that and probably got a scholarship (it’s probably Ozai’s school too) so now he’s in two friend groups
the gaang of childhood friends who all grew up going to elementary-high school (except sokka for the second half of high school bc it was then that he got the scholarship to the boarding school which he took bc...let’s say Kya always encouraged his endeavors whenever she was alive or smth- plus it’s a full ride so)
&
the rich kids aka Zuko, Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee who he met at the boarding school and became friends with bc they were all top of the class in whatever they were doing (Azula being all around good and stellar in debate or smth; Mai being captain of the archery club/team and her family having connections with Ozai; Ty Lee and Zuko both being in dance and being undefeated bc i love the thought)
then the groups clash bc Sokka is visiting home and ozai is like (to his kids and their friends) “you guys should go visit your uncle who just so happens to live and own a tea shop where your new friend Sokka is going while I probably do some incredibly illegal and under the table actions”.
heck we can add my favorite trope of Sokka and Azula being bffs bc they’re both top of their class and surprisingly work well together
and why not make it zukka too bc they’re idiots and have crushes on each other and now that they’re both not focused on studying so much to please Ozai (in sokka case bc his scholarship requires him to be top of his class bc it’s like unheard of for the school to give scholarships and there was this one particular time when Ozai called him into his office when he first arrived and was vaguely threatening but Sokka doesn’t like to think of that time) they can focus on ✨them✨
queue a lot of inside jokes from both sides- maybe drama in the form of both groups not working well together and both wanted to have Sokkas time
the gaang (encouraged by Katara and Azula’s instance dislike of each other) sees the boarding school group as spoiled and rude
and the boarding school group feels like the gaang is full of themselves and hold him back (that last part is probably just in Azula’s mind for character development later on)
wtf am i doing i don’t have time for another au”

wonder what she thinks of me
for @yuekiweek day 3: reunions | word count: 2.3k | read on ao3
“you need to buy your books suki!!” sokka lectures through the phone. last year suki didn’t buy the books for any of her classes and she was fine. she isn’t actually planning on buying books this year either, except now sokka’s roped her into coming to his book club and she can’t lie and say she doesn’t like to watch sokka rant about something dumb while enjoying the baked goods that sokka will have convinced his gran gran and his parents to make for them.
unfortunatley, this means suki has to brave the bookstore during some fancy author signing to try to buy the book sokka’s demanded everyone read for next week. he’s still talking through the phone, though suki’s mostly tuned him out. she’s normally much better at listening to sokka’s rants, but the bookstore is packed with awkward high school students and suki would rather not, at the moment. she slips around a table of overpriced waterbottles and planners and weaves past a random grandpiano over to one of the computers with the bookstore directory. “sokka,” suki asks as she almost trips over a four year old holding a picture book. “why did you have to send me to this bookstore at this time?”
there’s a huff on the other end of the line and suki sighs deeply, “suki, please you should be thankful! they’re running a special discount if you buy a tote bag to go with the book this weekend!!” well. okay, maybe suki collects tote bags and sokka is probably being a good friend. but suki hasn’t been to this store before, having not bothered with buying her textbooks last year and getting anything for fun as an ebook. but sokka believes in the experience of a physical copy or whatever, so tote bags and author signings it is.
suki puts her phone between her shoulder and ear as she sets her fingers onto the keyboard of the computer directory, “hey, what’s the name of the book again?”
“have you listened to anything i’ve ever said to you?” sokka asks her. suki can picture him in their apartment at his desk, doing something fancy with math as he coaches her through a bookstore, pinching the bridge of his nose out of frustration. suki doesn’t actually need him to tell her the name of the book, she just likes to rile him up sometimes. she types in the title. suki thanks him for his help, asks him if hes found his glasses yet (the same glasses she hid before she left) and hangs up with a smirk.
adaptation by malinda lo. there, young adult section. it’s supposedly sci fi thriller and sokka, though he lacks taste in most things, has always had solid book taste. suki looks around for the sign to section she needs and spots it, tucked behind a tech display and next to the little cafe. suki walks over, eager to grab her book and get out of the shop. she walks through the shelves searching for the author’s with the last name l. malinda lo. there, suki reaches out to pluck the book of the shelf, when the back of her hand brushes against someone else.
suki steps back, book in hand, to look at the girl next to her. she has brown hair in a pretty updo and really cute heart shaped beaded earrings. she looks familiar, but suki isn’t sure where she recognizes her from.
“hi,” the other girl says, her voice sounds like a princess. all bells and whistling wind.
“uh,” suki coughs, smiling crookedly and titling her head. “hi!”
the other girl giggles at her, but her smile is warm and suki finds herself settling. “i’m yue - so adaptation? what made you interested in it?”
“oh, my friend is hosting a book club and this is this months pick,” suki tells her. maybe she should have done a little more research on the book before she’d shown up. she hadn’t really pictured a bookstore as the spot to meet a cute girl.
“oh!” yue says, surprised. “i have the same one assigned for my book club. do you want to grab something to drink and let me tell you about it?”
“sure,” suki says, her smile growing even wider. “that sounds great”
yue winks at her as she grabs the same book of the shelf, “perfect, there’s this bubble tea place a block a way i want to show you.” yue turns on her heel, her hair falling onto her back as yue bounces in her steps. suki checks to make sure her flannel is neat and her docs are tied before hurrying after yue.
the two of them wait in line one behind the other at the register and yue flips through the display before the register of pins and pens and bookmarks. a rainbow lion turtle eraser set catches suki’s eye and she lifts it up to her face to look at it closer. it’s the type of thing aang would like, so suki puts it on top of her book when she gets to the register. after she picks out the simplest canvas tote bad (most of them have obnoxious book puns katara would make fun of her for months about) and pays, suki finds yue waiting by the door peeling a sticker off of a sticker sheet suki remembers seeing on the display.
“so,’ yue asks. “where do you want your sticker?”
suki blinks, “what?”
yue waves the - oh it’s a hello kitty sticker with fairy wings. suki blinks at it, “um. cute?” she gets a smile for her efforts and then yue leans in and grabs her wrist, turning suki’s hand around and carefully placing the sticker onto the back of suki’s right hand.
“so,” yue says, after failing once more to steal a drink of suki’s boba. her mouth is screwed up in a light pout, but it feels teasing. “do you go to ba sing se u?”
only a little while later, they are wandering to nowhere in particular, still holding hands. yue keeps trying to steal a sip of suki’s drink even though when suki ordered yue had made a face at the idea of coffee boba. yue’s own drink is sweet like her. strawberry, reportedly to match yue’s nails which are done up in a neat mimic of the fruit.
suki nods, squeezing yue’s hand and lifting her drink over her head, too high up for yue to reach, though that doesn’t stop yue from playfully batting at it. neither of them caring about what passerby might think as they wobble on the sidewalk smiling at each other full of silliness. “yeah, i’m majoring in gender and women's studies with a minor in literature and art.”
yue lights up, the way she’s done every time suki’s shared a fact with her. suki’s face feels flushed, yue makes her feel like she’s on her first date ever. “oh wow!” yue says. “i’m majoring in four nations politics with a minor in theology and spiritual studies but i would love to see what your classes must be like. i think i could be a student forever, you know?”
and then yue doesn’t let go of suki’s wrist. instead, she links their fingers together and suki watches their hands held together hang between them. she looks up and smiles at yue, stupidly happy for a moment. and really, suki doesn’t even know for sure if yue is into girls even if yue does seem to be flagging. for now, suki just lets yue tug her down the street as her phone buzzes in her new tote bag with texts from sokka she’ll ignore for now.
“hm, not really, i think one degree is enough for me. but academics are cute,” suki says, watching as yue swings their hands back and forth as they walk. they’re both absolutely terrible at walking together, suki’s noticed. they can’t seem to walk in a straight line and suki’s almost fallen off the sidewalk twice already. it’s nice. suki’s finding that yue makes her comfortable everywhere.
“oh?” yue asks, her eyes twinkling. “does that mean you think i’m cute, suki?”
“hmmm,” suki teases out, a trace of laughter in her voice as yue finally manages to dart forward to steal her drink, finally realizing her success would be increased if she let go of suki’s hand. suki doesn’t even mind that much, wow. “well,” suki settles, after a moment of false consideration. “yeah, i think you’re pretty cute.”
yue winks at her, the same way she did in the bookstore, and takes a sip of suki’s bubble tea. then she makes a completely disgusted expression shoving suki’s drink back at her. “suki! that’s so gross, tui and la, how do you drink that?”
suki can’t help the laugh that spills out of her as yue sticks her tongue out and crosses her eyes, making a fuss that shouldn’t be as sweet as it is. well, suki’s always been a sucker for clowns. suki reaches out and links their hands back together and they both sip at their drink as they seem to stop together at the bus.
they make shy eye contact as a bus comes up to the stop. “so,” yue says. “i’ve got to go, i’m meeting up with a friend. but this was really fun, right?”
suki smiles, “yeah, it was really fun.”
“that’s great! i really liked talking with you!” yue informs her. then, yue leans forward and kisses suki’s cheek before turning around, and her earrings sparkle in the sunlight as she jumps onto the bus right before the bus doors close and it pulls away with the rest of the flow of traffic. suki blinks and watches it go, still feeling the soft touch of yue’s lips on her cheek.
when suki pulls her phone out of her bag to video call sokka he immediately points out the lipstick mark on her cheek and she resolves not to give him any details, no matter how much he pesters her
-
two weeks later, after bemoaning to ty lee about how she was dumb and completley forgot to ask the cute girl she met at the book store for her number, she sees yue again. at sokka’s book club.
the members of the secret book club hadn’t been a surprise for the most part, consisting of sokka (obviously), aang (one of sokka’s only friends who wasn’t a gay girl), azula, mai, ty lee and suki (the gay girls sokka was friends with). sokka’s parents, hakoda, kya and bato, had baked with sokka all last night and prepared a whole table full of snacks that sokka had made her haul over to their apartment. suki thinks it’s a ridiculous amount of food for their handful of friends, and then she and sokka ate a good section of it before their friends even show up.
mai, sokka and azula are arguing over the finer points of the book already even though the meeting has yet to officially start. sokka and azula, to be fair, have actual opinions that they are fiercly defending from their spots on the floor as mai causes problems on purpose on the couch she and ty lee stole as soon as they stepped through the front door.
there was only one person that had yet to arrive, and apparently only aang had met her before. azula had raised an eyebrow at the pronoun and asked sokka if he’d made friends with another gay girl. the answer had been yes, and suki who was looking for another chance at talking to a cute gay girl after flopping earlier in the month and failing at getting yue’s number or social media or anything, was looking forward to meeting the newest cute gay girl sokka was friends with.
sokka had impeccable taste in cute gay girls (besides azula). so really, maybe suki shouldn’t have been so surprised to answer the door when the bell rang to find yue holding a tray of pastries.
yue stands out in the hallway with its broken light, looking as pretty as the moon in the sky. her face breaks into a smile at the sight of suki, and suki’s sure her expression matches. “suki?!” yue asks. “wow, small world huh?”
suki nods back, her cheeks starting to hurt with how big she was beaming. “so,” suki says. “do you think i could make up for last week and get your number?”
laughter comes from behind suki, and suki knows her friends are probably making fun of them right now, but she’s too interested in yue’s answer to pay any attention.
yue rolls her eyes, but she doesn’t stop smiling, “of course suki, now do you want to help me bring these in so i can program it into your phone? no excuses not to call me this time.”
“don’t worry,” suki says as she takes the sweets from yue. “i’ll be sure to blow your phone up more than sokka when he’s trying to prove a point.”
she’s rewarded with another kiss to her cheek (and teasing from her friends at another lipstick stain) and yue’s number in her phone saved as yue🌙💖😘.
yue, through suki’s phone, texts something to herself and suki leans over yue’s shoulder to see what it is.
omg yue you’re so hot please go out with me <3
suki bumps yue’s shoulder as best as she can with her hands full and raises an eyebrow. “so, yue?” suki asks. “will you go out with me?”
yue giggles, her lipgloss sparkles and suki wonders what it tastes like, “of course, suki.”
a few seconds later, suki has her question answered and can confidently report that yue’s lipgloss tastes like mango.
suki passes the tray off to sokka, who was helpfully waiting right behind her with the tried familiar expression of accidentally setting up his exes. then, suki tugs yue into the loveseat, kicking out aang who had been sprawled across it.
book club is much more fun than suki was expecting, though almost all things are improved, suki finds, when she’s hanging out with her friends and eating sweets and practically sitting in the girl she likes lap while yue braids her hair and teases sokka with her. yue winks at her as aang and ty lee stop azula and sokka from getting into a fistfight with mai and sticks another hello kitty sticker onto her cheek. suki leans over and kisses the same spot on yue. fair is fair after all.

Dragon Eyes: an Avatar-The Last Airbender Fanfic
Dragon Eyes
On a diplomatic mission to the Fire Nation, Katara leaves the children with Aang to have tea with Zuko and Mai. But the two of them have something they want to talk about. They've lived enough of fathers neglecting one child for the other, and they have seen enough.
Katara wishes they had propositioned her, rather than bring this up. Read on Archive of Our Own here.
Years of travel in the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation have not made handling the heat any easier. Katara rejoices in shedding her layers, showing off some skin. Aang is entertaining all the kids—all of them, not just Tenzin, and Zuko’s daughter, too. She is relieved to have them out of her hair, to have the time to sit down and comb through her hair. She twists her hair into her old Fire Nation fashion and grins at herself in the mirror. She loves her hair loopies, but it’s nice to shake things up a bit.
Aang is taking the kids through the palace and tormenting the tour guide Zuko sent them with Ty Lee. Katara is taking advantage of the break. Zuko told her he’ll be in the garden with Mai, doing a tea meditation. Apparently they do that every morning, to keep a finger on each other’s pulse. At first Katara was nonplussed, wondering if that was a euphemism, and was slightly alarmed when he invited her to join them. Aang has talked about how the Air Nomads practiced polyamory. The Water Tribe does not. Katara does not.
It is terribly, terribly hot, humidity a caress on the skin, and she bends it cooler around her limbs, swiping the sweat away. Barefoot she walks down the tile path into the courtyard. Mai and Zuko are sitting by the turtleducks, drinking tea. Mai sees her first and raises a small cup in welcome.
Zuko says, “I told you she’d come.”
Mai rolls her eyes. “Hot tea on a hot day? Only offer this to Katara, not any other officials from the Water Tribe.”
“Fair,” Zuko says. He smiles at her. “Aang’s got the kids?”
Katara settles down at the tea table, one of those elegantly-carved pieces of wood that look deceptively simple and thus cost a fortune. Zuko uses wooden prongs to place a small porcelain cup before her and Mai. She touches it, eggshell thin. It’s warm.
“The tea tastes better that way,” Zuko says. Mai looks at him fondly. “Easier now that I don’t have to hide the fire bending.”
Katara smiles. “I really am surprised we didn’t run into each other earlier. Your uncle’s tea shop was so popular!”
Zuko hides his face behind his hair, and Mai puts her hand on his arm. Iroh’s death is still raw on him. She takes the tongs from him and begins pulling thin, silvery green leaves from a jar. She places them in a scoop made from bamboo.
“Bai hao yin zhen,” Mai says. “Early spring.” An eagerness underlays her usual drawl. Katara raises an eyebrow. She really likes the tea. Mai says, “Here. Smell.”
Katara leans forward. “The things I do for diplomacy!” She grins, and takes a cautious sniff. Her eyes widen, and she inhales deeper, drunk on the scent. “That’s like the sun!”
Mai smiles, and Zuko shakes himself out of his reverie to say, “Uncle always said the tasting notes were honey and sun fruits, after the rain. This is the new buds of a tea tree. There are other white teas, just as exquisite, that include the leaves, but I’ve always loved this one. It’s a treat.”
Katara says, “Well, thank you for sharing with me. If it tastes anything like it smells….”
“Uncle always served you red tea, right?” Zuko takes an open pot and closes a hand gently around its handle. The water begins to bubble. “He thought you’d like a deeper flavor. It’s good for the cold. But white tea cools me down.”
Katara leans back on her haunches, raising her face to the sun. She listens to the burble of the koi pond behind her, where Zuko has placed a shrine to Yue. Reparations, she thinks. Not enough: Sokka and Suki broke up, of course, and he has never quite been able to settle down since. She’s there, silent in the bright sky, and while it is not enough, at least the world is whole.
The courtyard is gritty under her hands, and she wipes at them, wincing at the soreness in the joints. She’s been stressed. These family trips are always stressful. Aang, for all his meditation, never seems to be able to focus on packing and he makes Bumi’s inattention worse, and then Kya gets upset that Bumi is bothering her and kicks up a fuss, and then Tenzin of course cries, and Appa covers him in slobber trying to comfort him, which makes him cry worse, and then he needs a bath, and then Bumi and Kya get upset, because the baby is the baby and the Airbender and everything, as Kya once screamed. She sighs. It is good to have some time in the sun, while Aang takes care of the kids, and have some intelligent conversation besides when she was having her next baby. She wasn’t. Three and a husband were enough.
Mai says, apropos of nothing, “Dragon eyes.” She slides the tea from the scoop into a gaiwan, shaking the leaves to spread them on the bottom.
Katara opens her eyes. “What?”
Mai says, “It means the water’s boiling. When the bubbles are that large, like dragon eyes. It means it’s the temperature that’s good for this kind of white tea. Though some brew it cooler—with crab eyes, rather than dragon eyes.”
Zuko takes his hand from the pot and skillfully pours the boiling water into the waiting gaiwan. He places its lid on the top, and pours it swiftly into another exquisite porcelain pitcher, almost translucently blue. Like blood, Katara thinks, and then banishes the thought. Hama wouldn’t like her here. The honeysuckle smell fills the garden. Zuko pours the tea, almost silver-green, into her cup.
He says, “Don’t drink. Just smell.”
Katara looks at him doubtfully. It seems like such a waste of such wonderful-smelling tea. The Fire Nation court has always struck her as excessive, though she is leery of people who prattle on about decadence.
Mai says, “You can drink it. But it’s the rinse, you rinse leaves like this the way you do rice.”
Katara says, “You ever cooked rice?” Zuko laughs, and Mai rolls her eyes.
“Very funny,” she drawls. “When we searched for Ursa. Eventually I got it right.” Zuko grins in a way that makes Katara think that perhaps she never did.
He points to the figure, painted in blue, sitting serenely at the center of the tea table. “Or you can offer it to her.” Katara picks up the porcelain figurine. It’s of a woman, a mother, holding a child close. She catches Mai’s eye. Zuko still hurts for his mother, for his father, for his cousin and his sister and his uncle. It manifests in such obvious ways, how he grieves his family. She doesn’t even need to hear it, but Zuko says it anyway. “It was my mother’s. Noriko, I mean.”
“Have you spoken to her recently?” Katara says carefully. She places the figurine back onto the table and unceremoniously dumps her cup over it, hoping it scalds through the paint. Families are complicated, Zuko’s insanely so. Mai gives her an amused look and does the same.
Zuko shrugs. “I just wish she’d talk to Azula. She hasn’t visited her once. And I know it’s hard, and you never really know when the lucid period will end, but—“
Mai says, “Loving Azula isn’t easy. It might get better when Ozai dies.”
Then they are silent as Zuko picks up the pot again and flash-brews the tea. It is hard to be sour with such a sweet smell filling the air. They don’t need to say it. It would have been better if Aang had killed Ozai. It is easier to come to peace with the dead father than the living disposed king and his mad daughter.
Zuko pours the honey-sweet tea into her little cup. She sips it, lost in its clear light taste. This is what the dew hidden in a flower tastes like, she thinks. She tries to slow down sipping at this minuscule cup, but too fast, the tea is gone. Zuko is smiling.
“Another cup?” he says, and she nods eagerly. “This was one of my uncle’s favorites. One of the many things he loved from the Earth Kingdom.”
They drink, reveling in the sheer loveliness of it. It’s like drinking light, Katara thinks. Earth and fire and water, in one cup. The warm porcelain soothes her aching hands. A muscle relaxes in her neck, and she lets her shoulders down. She rolls them, happy in their mobility.
Mai looks at her with an acupuncturist’s eye. “Pinched nerve?” she asks. “I can look at that. If you’re comfortable.”
Katara stops, cup halfway to her mouth. She’s going back to her original thought that they were hitting on her, which is flattering, but no. Absolutely not. She’s got enough going on, even if Aang wouldn’t mind, or even be into it. No.
Zuko leans forward. “There’s something we’ve been wanting to ask her.”
Katara’s heart stops. She puts the cup down, a little too hard. “I—uh—“
“Have things been alright with Aang?”
Mai’s mouth twitches. “I think she thought we were going to ask her something else.”
“Everything’s fine!” Katara blurts. Mai can be such a troll sometimes. “I mean. Traveling with the kids is always…a lot, but—why?” She’s irritated now. She has not been pleased with Aang, but three small children take a toll on communication in a marriage. She’s embarrassed that it has been that obvious. She fiddles with the figurine on the table.
Zuko and Mai exchange a look. They look like they’re waiting for the other to speak. Finally, Mai heaves a sigh.
“Bumi wrote Izumi something in a letter,” Mai says. She folds her hands in her lap. “You know how they’re friends. And it made her very upset.”
“Well,” Katara says. “If he was nasty to her, I’ll speak to him, but I don’t see what this has to do with my marriage. Bumi is—“ She stops. Bumi is always in the middle of things, fussing around, crashing into walls just like his namesake. She loses patience with him too often, she knows that, but Kya’s easy to distract with a waterbending lesson, and Tenzin just sits with his scrolls when Aang isn’t putting him through his paces. He’s so much like his father, an absolute whirlwind of energy. She’s privately thought it’s a shame he didn’t inherit his father’s bending, rather than Tenzin, but that is something she can not let herself think for long.
“He says he doesn’t think his father loves him, because he’s not a bender,” Zuko says. “Which I know is not right. But I have been in that position before. And he told her that Aang is never around, that he just travels from temple to temple with Tenzin, and he and Kya are just left at home. And that he’s worried about you too. It was a very…” He trails off, and looks at Mai.
Mai finishes, “The ink was smudge. He’d been crying. So we wanted to talk to you, because it scared Izumi. Because we both know what it is like to be ignored by our fathers.” She smiles thinly. “And the toll it took on our mothers.”
Zuko says, “I’m sorry if we overstepped, it was just—hard to read.”
Katara says, “Why didn’t he tell me? It’s—he does his best to present for the kids, but Aang has his Avatar duties, and as the last airbender, there’s so much he needs to teach Tenzin, so it’s just easier for him to bring only him along. Have you tried to move three children around the world on bison-back?”
Zuko looks wry for a second. “Well,” he says. “It depends if you count Sokka as a child.”
Mai puts her hand on his arm: not the time.
Katara says, “I wish it was better, but I knew I wasn’t walking into something that was easy. From the start. He could be a better father, but what can I do? What can I do?” She’s furious now, tears rising to her eyes, and she looses a ragged breath, surprised at her own fervor. Wordlessly Zuko pours her another cup. She downs it, barely tasting it.
Mai says, “If he’s not being a good father to your children and a good husband to you, you can leave. We’re not our mothers, Katara.” Zuko looks at her warningly. “Sorry. I don’t know how it was in the Southern Water Tribe, but for my mother, she thought she had no choice. But there is always a choice. Even if it isn’t easy. I don’t—“
Zuko says firmly, “You deserve better. Bumi and Kya deserve better. And Tenzin too. That sort of resentment between siblings is poison. I should know.”
Katara would have preferred that they proposition her. She closes her eyes. “I don’t know what to do,” she whispers. Louder, she continues, “I know Bumi deserves better. From both of us. I know it hurts them. I can see it in the way they treat Tenzin. Kya already barely speaks to Aang. But. Tenzin is my son, too. And of course he and Aang would be closer. It’s just—if I take my children and go, I’m taking Aang’s family away. And I know the Air Nomads were different, he wasn’t raised to stay in one place, if you were a bender and a boy you’d be sent to the temple and that was it, but—“
“Bumi is Southern Water Tribe,” Mai says. “And even if his father is an Air Nomad, only his brother counts as one. Because of bending. And that isn’t fair for him. For Kya either, because they are both. And you know you need to do something about it.” Katara looks up, surprised at the emotion in her voice. Mai stares at her steadily. “Katara, you saved the world. You’re the hero of the Fire Nation, the Painted Lady, the chief of the Southern Water Tribe. You deserve a husband who is a coparent to all your children, not just one.”
Katara says, “You don’t—“ and then there is a crash and a scream and the sound of raucous laughter as Aang comes running in on an air ball, Tenzin nipping at his heels.
“C’mon,” he yells behind him, “faster, you snail sloths!” He and Tenzin pause, perched on the air they so effortlessly bend. Tenzin looks a little harried. Bumi comes running in, panting, then Kya, and Izumi at a more sedate pace.
“That’s…cheating,” Kya says. She grips at the wall. “That wasn’t fair!” She is genuinely angry, almost at the brink of tears, and Izumi bumps her reassuringly. Bumi throws himself on the ground.
Tenzin says pedantically, “You didn’t say no bending.”
Izumi snaps, “Maybe it didn’t need to be said!”
Aang jumps onto his feet, and Tenzin follows. Kya is crouching over Bumi now, muttering to him. Mai’s face is a stone. Zuko is blushing.
“What’s up?” Aang says, grinning. “Did I miss anything fun?”
Katara pours herself a cup rather than answering. She considered the heat and sweetness in the air. With a flick of her risk, she bends it over the mother figurine, washing her clean.
“Oh, you know,” she says. “Diplomacy. We’ll talk about it when we get home.”

MAILEE???? AS PARENTS???? Tell us more Su.
Ok, Joy, so I was thinking about this a lot last night, and had originally thought that they would have 3 biological kids, Mai and Ty Lee get different sperm donors. Mai would get pregnant first and have a girl, and then Ty Lee would have twin boys. They would also foster orphans and teach them etiquette and how to defend themselves (but I'm not going to include them since they're only there until they age out of the system with some dope skills, or are adopted)
BUT THEN!!!
I thought.... Ty Lee is 1 or 7 identical sisters WHAT IF instead of having twin boys, she had like quintuplet (5) boys!!! But she gave them all very different names and made them do very different activities so they were their own people, unlike how she felt with her sisters. Of course the five of them would end up forming some sort of group gymnastics team or something so they could spend more time together.
IDK Joy! I'm conflicted on which route I wanna take. I'll lay both groups of kids out for you (and anyone else who's interested) and y'all can help decide which Mai Lee family will make the cut lmao.
Also going to put a cut here because... well this is gonna get looong
Yaisha (F) Firebender, 29: Yaisha is Mai's biological child, yet very much has personality close to her Titi (Ty Lee). She isn't a very skilled firebender when she starts, but cousin Ichika (Azula's daughter), trains her to become a pretty an average bender before heading off to the Royal Fire Academy for Girls. She latches onto Kya (steambaby) who is 3 years older than her and they become close like sisters. Seeing that Yaisha isn't the strongest bender, she is also taught dagger throwing, which she excels at like Mama. Although her firebending skills are quite avaerage, she uses them masterfully in the kitchen, specifically as a baker. She ends up marrying an earthbender at some point in the future (I have no other info on this dude yet, sorry lmao) and they settle down in Ba Sing Se and open a pastry shop next to the Jasmine Dragon.
Yaisha is there in both iterations of my idea. The rest of these OCs will be split between Ty Lee having twin earthbending boys (bc her sperm donor was an earthbender) or two firebenders, an earthbender, and two non-bender quintuplets.
Twins:
Siju and Dizai (M) Earthbenders, 27: Siju and Dizai are pretty skilled earthbenders for people who live in the Fire Nation without any proper training. While Yaisha trains at the Royal Fire Academy for Girls, the twins are shipped off to train with Toph. The twins get super close with Suyin they become a trio until Su gets sent to Gao Ling to live with her grandparents. Siju is quite a skilled metalbender, but Dizai turns out to be a lavabender. Once they hone their skills, both of them come home to show Mama and Titi their skills. Everyone is very impressed.
Siju stays home and meets a midranking officer in the Fire Navy and they fall in love.
Dizai travels around the world and meets Sokka and Suki's daughter, Alayi. Even though Dizai is 6 years younger than Alayi, the two fall in love and settle in the SWT where Alayi wants to teach the new waterbenders how to master their element. Together, they have two children, an earthbender and a firebender.
Quintuplets:
Jaree (M) Non-Bender, 20: Jaree is a skilled chi blocker like Titi, but is also interested in welding. He becomes the youngest and best-known welder in the world but the age of 15. People come from all over the world to get beautifully designed weapons made by the boy. Jaree makes customized weapons for his Mama and Zaija on a regular basis as 'practice'. When he turns 18, he only does commissions because he enjoyed spending his time with his brothers dancing and messing around.
Zaija (M) Non-Bender, 20: Zaija on the other hand, takes after his Mama and is a skilled thrower. Jaree makes customized throwing stars, daggers, knives, etc for him. They are perfectly balanced and ensures that he never misses his target. when he's not small weapons and going on top secret missions for Shushu Zuko, he writes under the name Wang Fire (courtesy of Sokka). Wang Fire is the best-selling author for teen dramas. Only Sokka knows his secret.
Mozu (M) Firebender, 20: Mozu is an awful combat firebender, but he's very skilled in firebending as a healing art. He studies under the Bhanti sages to learn how to energy read with firebending. From there he learns the power of Reiki and massage therapy to heal people. Mozu and Shain start a healing business together, as Shain is a skilled acupuncturist and acupressurist. In his small amount of free time, he likes to study teas. Eventually, after the quintuplets stop competing, Mozu goes to help Iroh in Ba Sing Se at the tea shop.
Yaro (M) Firebender, 20: Where Mozu could barely fight, Yaro excels. Yaro is sent to the Sun Warriors to learn firebending from Ran and Shaw. After returning, he makes it his life mission to learn how to control the colors of his fire. By 17, he is able to create any color flame he wants. He explores how different things react based on the different temperatures and colors the flames are. Yaro becomes a potter, creating unique bowls, plates, etc for the nobles. He and Jaree open a gallery together to sell their masterpieces.
Shain (M) Earthbender, 20: Shain is the odd man out, being the only earthbender in the family. He is sent to train with Ayi Toph and discovers he's a very skilled metalbender. Between his metalbending abilities and knowledge of muscles and pressure points, Shain creates a better way of doing acupuncture than the experts have done for the past 300 years. Shain spends one season each year in Zaofu with Suyin and Bataar to better his metalbending and teach other metalbenders his acupuncture technique.
The five of them are all super flexible and able to get some height when jumping. They form a gymnastics and dance troupe of the five of them. They compete in the group version of bending dance competitions that Tiao Wu does. He's a big fan of them and is always siked when they let him dance with them.
OK! Here is a much longer than I intended answer to your Mai Lee babies ask. Please let me know what you think and which direction you think I should go because both would be interesting to have.

inspired by @aboutiroh, @azu1as and a few other tumblr blogs’ thread about Child!Zuko being Firelord at 7 years old.
In this AU, everything’s set 8 years in the past and the comet arrives early.
Feel free to ask questions about this in reblogs/asks.
More in-depth explanation below. (warning: long)
It starts with Sokka, who has stolen a kayak and gone fishing with his sister. Sokka is 7 while Katara is 6, meaning their father hasn't left yet and their mother is still alive. Katara tries to practice her water-bending while Sokka hunts with his spear, things go almost-canon until Katara canonly yells at Sokka, instead she gets scared and loses control of her bending, resulting in the iceberg breaking
Once they find Aang, a still twelve-year-old boy, they bring him home along with Appa and explains what happened to their parents. Kya is worried and Hakoda gives them a talking to due to the kayak-stealing.
Zuko, having already gotten his scar at 8 years old bc Ozai's just Like That, has been banished along with Ursa and Azula, who is not old enough to hate her brother yet, so she tried to stand up to Ozai and got banished as well Of course, Iroh and Lu Ten are there, however the burning of Iroh's 8 year old nephew's face made both of them realize jut how cruel and coldhearted the Firelord is and just how messed up the fire nation in general is.
So, their on a boat. Lu Ten, Iroh, Ursa, Zuko and Azula. A big family of banished 'traitors' They get down to the south pole so Iroh can study water-bending and thus create the lightning redirection technique. However, Zuko and Azula find Aang, Sokka and Katara, hear about their quest to the northern water tribe, and decides to join. The adults on-board decide to let them, as Iroh has already figured out Zuko's destiny to help stop the war, no matter what age. Ursa stays with Kya and the water tribe while Iroh and Lu Ten head to Ba Sing Se.
General Zhao is the one hunting for the avatar, and since he's Like That, he doesn't care if the Avatar and his friends are literally 4-12 years old.
They get captured by Kyoshi Warriors, but their like 7 year olds, and since Sokka hasn't quite gotten the sexism in his head yet, he doesn't get mad about *girls* beating him up, he's just mad he got ambushed so easily. He gets a childhood crush on the 7-year-old Suki, but is bad at the whole 'socializing' thing so he tries to bully her and gets his butt royally whooped.
At some point along the way, the Gaang picks up Toph, a 4 year old girl who was playing with badger-moles and *still* more badass then all of them combined.
Azula and Zuko get Sibling Bonding after seeing how Sokka and Katara bond, and actually become really good friends.
Eventually, they get to Ba Sing Se and settle down for a few weeks, planning their next moves and all, until they realize the Dai Li are up to something. Soon, Zuko and Katara get captured, Iroh hears of it and comes to the Gaang for help w(ith Lu Ten, of course) Zuko explains to Katara how he got the scar, burned after speaking up to his father after Ozai threatened a servant, and the two bond over their loving mothers and siblings.
However, instead of Azula chasing them down, it's Mai and Ty Lee, angry about being abandoned by Azula when she got banished. (Mai is 7, Ty Lee is 6) Zuko refuses to betray his friends and family, and neither does Azula. However, when their having the big fight in the crystal caves, a lightning bolt reflects off a crystal and hits Avatar State Aang in the back, killing him.
Iroh, after seeing how dangerous it is for Zuko and the Gaang, decides to go back to the Fire Nation with Mai and Ty Lee, leaving Lu Ten to look after this gaggle of toddlers.
After a week or so, Aang wakes up on a fire navy ship, with the Gaang and parents on-board. The crew is: Zuko, Azula, Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Suki, Hakoda, Bato, Kyo, Lu Ten and Ursa. However, Aang runs off into the storm and canon generally goes on from there.
The Fire Family becomes a thing, Sokka somehow convinces the principle he is in fact an adult and definitely not himself and Zuko in adults clothing. (Sapphire Fire is Katara and Suki in a dress) However, things go wrong at the Eclipse and the adults get captured, Ursa, Zuko and Azula get to speak their mind to Ozai as Iroh and Lu Ten forces him to stay against the wall. The Gaang, along with young Teo, The Duke and Haru, travel to the Western Air Temple. Mai and Ty Lee, after having a very stern talking to by Iroh, ask to join the Gaang, to which they accept after an apology from both of them to Azula, Aang and Zuko specifically.
From there, Aang mostly masters all four elements, they go watch that god awful Boy In The Iceberg show, Aang talks to his past lives and Ozai eventually gets defeated by a bunch of children and toddlers.
Who does Zuko and Azula fight at the end, you may ask? Zhao. Everyone was so busy worrying about the comet and Ozai, nobody had even realized Zhao didn't die at the NWT, simply thrown into the ocean and got rescued by a ship. And, turns out, learnt to generate and shoot lightning somewhere along the way. and everyone knows Zhao isn't above harming a bunch of children.
in the end, Zuko ends up jumping in the way of the lightning bolt, but survives and Zhao gets thrown in jail to rot some more.
And yes, Zuko does become Firelord. in fact, Lu Ten becomes his advisor while the Kyoshi Warriors are his personal guards. Iroh doesn't take the throne, but becomes the most popular tea shop in the Fire Nation after making the Jasmine Dragon a multi-nation Tea Shop chain. (Some trusted Earth Kingdom friends of Iroh and Lu Ten become the managers of the original Jasmine Dragon shop)

Here are some Modern AU Izumi headcanons just cause
Izumi is terrified of those giant characters in costume (like Mickey Mouse) Her parents hired one for her fourth birthday and she spent the entire party running from it.
Azula and Ty Lee take her to her first concert when she’s 9. She loses her voice from screaming and singing the whole time.
When she can, she works after school in her grandpa’s tea shop. Iroh always gives her all the tips from the night no matter how many times she objects.
She’s the captain of the junior debate team and has lead them to the national championships two years in a row.
Bumi collects Pokémon cards but he’s very particular about letting Kya and Izumi play with them after Kya accidentally bent one.
So the girls start their own collection together and don’t let Bumi trade cards with them
Izumi is also on the volleyball team. She isn’t a starter but that doesn’t stop her dad from going to every single game (home and away)
She is a Nintendo baby. She loves to play Animal Crossing because it relaxes her and she knows all the shortcuts in Mario Kart.
Mai buys super expensive and stylish designer baby clothes for Izumi 😎
She has a pet bearded dragon named Shaw. Zuko went with her to the pet store and she picked it out on her own.
Whenever she sleeps over Kya’s house, Aang and the girls play karaoke and have dance parties and make jewelry together.
Izumi gets a (really nice) car for her sixteenth birthday. Kya is happy for her friend but low key jealous. (She gets over it when she realizes she doesn’t have to bum rides off her brother anymore)
Zuko puts Izumi in every single extra curricular activity when she’s young. She ends up trying gymnastics, art, piano, ballet, and soccer

WAITTTT DID YOU GET ANY ZK ASKS YET? If not, pls do 1, 12, and 28 ☺️☺️ love you and your blog 🥺💞💞💞
Hey, girlie!!! Love you too, queen 💖💋
So let’s get to these questions, shall we?
“1. What made you start shipping Zutara?”
Okay, I’ma keep it real with y’all; I saw fanart and screencaps from the show and thought they looked cute together. But then once I watched A:tLA for the first time in a long time, I fell in love with their characters and their super dynamic relationship. Zuko and Katara have become my favorite relationship and favorite characters because they’re just a whole vibe, y’know??? Like who wouldn’t want someone who can let you genuinely be yourself with no judgement whatsoever and hear every word that comes out of your mouth and never take them for granted? Who wouldn’t want someone who embraces the mistakes you’ve made and tell you how much you’ve grown as a person and how deserving you are of love? Who wouldn’t want someone who takes all of you in and gives all of them back? Idk about y’all but that sounds like marriage material to me.
“12. What are your steambaby headcanons?”
HOO BOY, buckle up, y’all cause it’s about to get LONG!
So, I headcanon that Zuko and Katara have four kids; Izumi, Lu Ten II, Kya II, and Kallik (in order from eldest to youngest). I wanted to keep their canon daughters because I love them sm.
Izumi - Nonbender; the crown Princess of the Fire Nation; looks pretty much the same as she did in TLoK, but she has black hair in youth; Wears signature Water Tribe hair loopies and Fire Nation top knot; Izumi is skilled in the art of dao swordsmanship, jian fencing (courtesy of Uncle Sokka), tessenjutsu (courtesy of Aunt Suki), and chi blocking (courtesy of Aunt Ty Lee); Izumi has ADHD—more on the inattentive side than the hyperactive—and her special interests include writing and reading (will expand on those), and one of her coping mechanisms is writing lists (just like Sokka), and when she is feeling overstimulated, Zuko and Katara let her take breaks and do what she needs to do to feel better cause sometimes old fashioned nobles just don’t get it; Izumi goes on a journey of self discovery because she has doubts about being the Fire Lord.
Lu Ten II - Firebender, but make it blue like Aunt Azula’s; Black hair, shaved at the sides, wears it in top knot when he has to be formal otherwise it’s always in a wolftail; Blue eyes like his momma 🥺; Tallest of the four; Light brown skin, like pretty mixed, you can tell he’s biracial; Lu Ten is skilled in archery and, like Uncle Sokka, loves to invent things; I know windsurfing wasn’t invented till the 1970s, but whatever this is fantasy, Lu Ten is a pro windsurfer; I base him mostly on Jim Hawkins from Treasure Planet; Has a lot of unresolved angst (for reasons would be spoilers for a big A:tLA project I’m working on); Is a big momma’s boy, he loves and respects his momma, but he doesn’t need to drink respect women juice since it’s already coursing through his veins; May or may not be the next Blue Spirit 🤫
Kya II - Waterbender; looks about the same as TLoK counterpart; Total daddy’s girl; Katara 2.0; A trouble maker, her and Lu Ten are the chaotic duo of the siblings; Bisexual panic all day erry day; becomes the Southern Water Tribe representative and chairwoman of the United Republic Council; Goes to live in Republic City when she’s older; goes from SWT helping with her cousin Chief Amaruq (Sukka baby) and Republic City. Might help Korra with her waterbending training.
Kallik - Waterbender; Blue eyes, dark brown hair shaved on the sides in a wolftail with a braided beaded strand hanging out (if someone knows the official name please tell me), and brown skin; Kallik is a sensitive soul, he’s a hopeless romantic, loves theatre and animals; Iroh taught him how to play Pai Sho and make delicious tea and he would invite Zuko and Katara to tea parties with his stuffed animals; Wants to become a doctor to help people, so he knows a lot about human anatomy and medical stuff; Is part of the reason Katara gets over her fear of bloodbending, he shows her that it can be used for good; Becomes the new owner of the Jasmine Dragon once Iroh passes away and lives happily with his husband and two adopted kids while being one of the best doctors there.
Yeah, Zuko and Katara are proud of the family they created, and while they had their fears in the beginning, they love their babies with all their hearts and wouldn’t change a thing. If you’d like to hear more about my steambaby headcanons, feel free to DM me!
“28. What’s a Zutara fic trope you can’t get enough of?”
Oh man, I love me a good modern AU. There’s just something about Zuko and Katara in our day and age that just makes it that much more fun. Like Zuko and Katara going grocery shopping? Amazing. Them texting cute mushy things on their phones? Adorable. Just everything about a modern AU is fantastic.
If there’s any more questions you guys would like me to answer, please feel free to ask me them! I love talking about Zutara and A:tLA in general.

Avatar Water/Fire swap AU part 2
Part One
Lol I just found this in my drafts. Basically, if you didn’t see the first post from a long time ago, these are my ideas for an ATLA AU where Water and Fire have been swapped. Since Earth and Air are mostly the same, my Book 2 ideas won’t be as long but I promise Book 3 will make up for it (I tried swapping earth and air but it was too dang complicated)
-Book 2 is still Earth.
-After leaving the Western Fire Tribe to go back to the Earth Kingdom, Master Jeong Jeong gives Azula a conductive stone that aids in fire healing
-in this AU, lightning can be used for healing by rerouting electrical nerve signals or something. Using lightning offensively doesn’t come up till Book 3
-Prince Sokka and Gran-Gran Kanna go into hiding
-Princess Katara leaves the Water Nation in search of her family. On the boat over, she practices bloodbending (under her instructors Ha and Ma). When she tries to kidnap Sokka and Kanna, Kanna is able to resist her bloodbending (like Iroh redirected lightning)
-Katara gets together an elite force to hunt down the Avatar. She recruits Yue, who’s swapped with Mai, and Suki, who’s swapped with Ty Lee (Ty Lee is the leader of the Kyoshi Warriors. ik it’s not a perfect swap but outside of the original Gaang Katara doesn’t have many Water Tribe friends)
-Yue is proficient in throwing darts and Suki is an expert chi blocker
-Instead the Foggy swamp tribe, Azula, Zuko, and Aang meet the Sun Warrior Tribe
-Toph still joins the group and is basically the same
-When Toph is training Aang, Zuko falls in a hole
-In Sokka Alone, it’s revealed that after Kanna’s other son died and she failed to take Ba Sing Se, Hakoda tried to take the throne. Sokka’s grandfather Kata (who Katara was named after) threatened to kill Sokka, so his mother Kya poisoned Water Lord Kata and was exiled. Then Hakoda became Water Lord.
-Sokka shows the kid how to use boomerangs. He reveals himself by waterbending.
-After their confrontation in the Chase, Sokka nurses an injured Kanna back to health. She tries to teach him bloodbending, but he’s unable to. Instead, she teaches him how to resist bloodbending, a technique she learned from earthbenders (who stand their ground and don’t let others enforce their will)
-At the library, Zuko finds the date of a lunar eclipse that will leave the Water Nation defenseless
-Also Zuko uses a knife and staff as his two weapons (instead of a boomerang and a club.)
-Even though Ty Lee is swapped with Suki she and Zuko don’t have a thing. They’re just good friends (in this AU Zuko is still dramatic and gloomy but in more of an older theater gay brother).
-Sokka and Kanna sneak into Ba Sing Se as refugees and end up running a soup shop, the Rosemary Koi. Also Kanna is to soup as Iroh is to tea.
-Sokka frees Appa as the Moon Spirit and has a crisis
-Jet claims that Kanna was stirring her soup (implying waterbending) and everyone was like “they work in a soup shop?”
-Sokka’s cover name is also Lee
-Katara stages a coup, and there’s a big showdown beneath Ba Sing Se. Azula and Sokka talk, and Azula almost heals his scar. Just before Aang masters the Avatar State Katara bloodbends his chi paths (like Amon) and also probably breaks some internal shit. Azula uses the magnetic stone from Jeong Jeong to save him.
