And, yep, S&D are strutting around the ring, taunting the crowd. Just bad sportsman in my opin-Wait...do you hear..what is that? Is that theme music? Who's song is that? Wait.. is that? It couldn't be! It is! JESUS CHRIST! IT'S THE SON OF GOD! WE ALL THOUGHT HE WAS TAKEN OUT BY PONTIUS P. PILOT THANKS TO THAT SURPRISE BETRAYAL BY JUDAS, BUT HE'S BACK! HE'S ON THE TOP ROPE! AND HE! Not a Mormon but I found this tag since one of my autistic interests is Mormon church history and I must say you guys are awesome! I really don’t like how the church tends to hide all of their doctrine on space like how there is gods of different planets and Kolob and you could be one too. Like who wouldn’t want the chance to become a god? That sounds like it would appeal to a lot of people! I asked a missionary in high school about that because I really liked that part and he laughed at me saying that it is anti Mormon propaganda which lost me for a while. I also like how you guys are trying to change the church for the better and make it more accepting of people who don’t quite fit the mold. Keep it up!

Discovering Mormon Tumblr has been the greatest blessing. It is truly just a bunch of neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ members of the LDS church rambling about silly things like a Kirkland Temple Megazord.

Yesterday we had a friend of my parent's over, and she asked a lot of completely fair questions about the church- about women, their roles, the misogyny in the church, so on. She was being very fair and respectful, genuinely looking for explanations. Something my dad said really stuck with me. "Jesus doesn't just swoop in every time we mess up. A lot of the time, He lets us figure it out and work it out for ourselves." We also talked quite a bit about the Children of Israel- after they left Egypt, the older generation had to die for them to be able to enter the promised land.Change happens in the church, albeit slowly. I've seen the progress, though. And as more of the members and leaders catch on to the central principles, i think it will continue to march forward. It's hard now. It's not going to stop being hard. But slowly, slowly. It will get better.

Damn my seminary teacher just compared being LGBTQ to being sick or addicted
He followed it up in a good way after a kid called him out on it, but that cut me to the core a little.

I don't agree with a lot of Sanderson's politics - and they aren't, in fact, based in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints doctrine, but rather Utah culture - but it also makes me pretty uncomfortable to hear you badmouthing the church I'm part of?
I badmouth religious organizations in general, Catholic Church included (in which I was raised) because they tend to be overwhelmingly corrupt and abusive towards their own church members (and especially towards people outside of them)
Mormonism in particular is especially bad for how being part of the church requires “tithings” from paychecks plus their treatment of women, minorities, and even men in ways that are almost so explicitly manipulative and cultish that it feels like it comes out of parody.
(For example, I simply declared, “I am no longer catholic” and that was it. Done. You cannot generally do the same in LDS without incredible backlash and slander by its members)
And it’s very obvious when it shows up in fictional books by a lot of Mormon writers, because it’s so conservative that it’s a step or two behind the times.
It’s not as bad as Westeros Westboro Baptist Church or Scientology, but that’s not a high bar to clear.
If your time in the church was different, I’m happy for you, because it means you likely avoided the worst parts of their abuse.
Still, if you have the time, I’d suggest watching these videos (in no particular order):
Why I Left Mormonism - Video covering the creation of the channel “Cults to Consciousness” and her abusive home life under the church
The BITE Model - Simple PowerPoint explaining the reoccurring factors of cults
Ex-Mormon Cast Reacts to Mormon Debates -Cast of ex-Mormon members react to a Mormon debate and highlight various lies and falsehoods presented, as well talk about teachings/history Mormon Church does not want revealed publicly
How the Mormon Church ‘Help Line’ Hid Child Abuse - Exactly what it says. Survivors speak out and the church has done nothing for them or worse.
If you don’t want to watch these videos, if you can’t stomach the testimonies, ask yourself and others these questions:
- How often are you allowed to preach about Heavenly Mother?
- How often do you see women in power within the church, as in, deciding doctrine and not just playing piano or making food for the men?
- How often do you see minorities in power within the church, as in, deciding doctrine or being treated as a token?
- How often does your church talk about the incredibly high suicide rates for children and how it’s associated with its practices?
- How come when a racist, anti-Semitic, misogynistic etc Prophet speaks its “the word of God” and doctrine, but then another Prophet can simply claim it was mere “policy”. Was ‘God’ lying to the prophets? Were the prophets lying about God? How can you trust what is their words and what is God?
- How come the church hid $30 Billion dollars from the public and even its own lower members?
- How come the founder lied about what was on the Egyptian papyrus, claiming it was a translation from God, but people who can actually read Egyptian pointed out he was lying?
- How come you get treated differently for asking these supposedly easy to answer questions?
I do not go after Brandon or you because you happen to be religious. I think belief in a higher power is one’s own choice and prerogative.
I instead care far more about the religious system that is using well-intended people like pawns for goals that pretty much boil down to money and power.

One time my older brother had to give a talk at church.
He finished his talk and had some time left, so he said that he finds it easier to express his feelings through music. So he whipped out his harmonica and began an impromptu jam session.
The bishop started to get up to stop him but then sat back down and let him continue.

Oaks: some people discard the rules of society but for millenia we have seen that to be in a society we must follow rules (paraphrasing I don’t remember what he said)
Me: is he trying to talk about queer people or anarchists?
My boyfriend: I thought he meant HOAs

Ways (that I have tried) to try to make a church/religious community more inclusive:
(This is more my religion/Christian centered, but can be applied to any kind of organization really)
Refer to to all presidents of organizations as president regardless of gender (Relief Society President, Young Women's President, etc.)
Use all inclusive language in scripture / doctrine/talk reading (even if you have to replace a word) (replace son or daughter or gendered language with child, people, or all. 'Children of God vs Sons and Daughters of God).
Don't be afraid to speak up for and add perspective of marginalized people in church community. This doesn't just have to be ethnic or queer minorities, it can extend to divorced, widowed, childless, disabled or converted members.
Recognize biases in self and religious thinking, and try to self-correct in words and deeds.
Reframe conversations that may be hurtful in a 'Love One Another' and Christ and/or God centered way.
(feel free to add on!!)
Edit: Realized in church that making sure we are clarifying all "churchy" language, whenever possible. Like not just saying 'MTC' (Missionary Training Center, to prepare to serve missions), or 'deacon' (young men who hold the first level of the Priesthood).

I’ve mentioned before that I’m in charge of the ward program, and for this Fast Sunday I thought I’d dig up some Abish art. Poked around the church’s website and pretty soon I found this illustration of Abish and the Lamanite Queen from a church magazine article from 2020 and I just had to use it because, I mean….just look.
Tumblr media
You guy get it, right?

Having a lot of thoughts this m*thers day.
I HATE the way the mormon church automatically assigns m*therhood to all girls/women/afabs.
M*ther's Day at church always looked like making ALL the girls and women 12 and older (literal children) stand up while a member of the bishopric/branch presidency placated them with meaningless missives of gratitude and about how being a m*m is the most divine role a woman can hold (🤮🤢) while the young men passed out a cheap little gift to every single women standing.
I thought this tradition wouldn't exist in the singles ward. I was wrong. Same shit again. It was around then (18/19) I realized how gross this felt to me.
I don't want to be a m*ther. EVER. But I didn't even realize I had the choice to opt out of parenthood until I was a full blown adult (fortunately before I had any children) I was literally groomed for m*therhood by the church.
Young women's lessons and activities spent planning out children's names, making baby quilts for our future children (ma'am I am 12 years old. I AM children.) And learning parenting tips and how to be a good stay at home wife/m*ther.
I have such a difficult relationship with m*therhood and the mormon church is the cause for a LOT of it. I've been out of the church for many years now and I am still unpacking and unlearning.
But, damn this time of the year is hard for me.

Mormon Hot Take-
Evolution and Mormonism are completely compatible
Arguments:
1.) "Bruce McKonkie said that's not true." He did, in a book that was so doctrinally inaccurate that the First Presidency told him he had to edit it
2.) "But so did Joseph F Smith." At that time, Creationism was still being taught in schools, so Evolution was not only a new idea, but also solely associated with Atheism. So of course he spoke out against it
3.) "Joseph Smith said that the Earth was only a few thousand years old." Except no, he didn't. It was revealed to him that the Earth was 2.555 Billion years old (7000 years of Kolob time)
4.) "We're all the Descendants of Adam & Eve." Ok, and... With the amount of time humanity has been around, that can still be the case. We just need to move back our timelines. Why can't God have planned life (including humans) to Evolve the way we do. Especially when you consider if Adam & Eve were the only humans, then there'd be some massive incest going on. And even if you're some super-human who can live nearly a millennium, I don't think Incest would be good for their descendants. Same issue with Noah
5.) "What about Noah's Ark?" Where in Scripture does it say it was a Global Flood. It seems to me more likely that the Flood happened around 12,900 years ago, at the end of the Younger Dryas period. Also, Cain survived (if you believe he is Bigfoot). Did Noah let him on, did he cling to the side of the ark, did he just swim for a year
Now I can be wrong. Maybe the Earth is only 6000 years old. But I'd drive myself crazy to try to live with cognitive dissonance like that. And it makes sense to me

Hello Queerstake!!! (an introduction of me)
I've been on Tumblr for years as @mewuniverse (Mew for short usually) and decided that I wanted to make a sideblog to interact more with the LDS people that are here too! I'm a member of the LDS church, born and raised in that church. I am a woman married to a man with a kid of our own, and I figured out relatively recently that I'm somewhere on the asexual spectrum (ace, demi, I use both labels lol). Still, I see myself as more of an ally and want to be able to understand the stories of those in the LGBTQ+ community, including those that are currently and were formerly LDS.
Hopefully you'll see both posts from me and reblogs from the rest of the queerstake here, and I'm glad to be here with y'all and have perspectives of the LDS church that aren't just the strictly conservative ones I grew up around.
