People who talk about how “how could you believe in the church ever, how did they talk you into getting baptized when you were 8? I NEVER would’ve fallen for that!” Did you believe in the Easter Bunny? The tooth fairy? Santa Clause? All things that are made up but you believed were true even though there were some weird and honestly creepy aspects of it if you look at it now, but you still believed in it and believed in the good parts of those things. Do not blame people for believing in something that they were fully taught was the truth because the people around them were taught it was the truth. Do not criticize a little kid for believing in Santa.

Reading M. Kelters essay in Knowing Why: adult diagnosed autistic people on life and autism
There was a moment where I couldn’t help but feel so seen and this page was it
Tumblr media
I hid, but my favorite place wasn’t in the ceiling but in a tiny secret closet off of one of the classrooms on the second floor above the sacrament meeting. I could see the meeting from up there and would know when it would be over.
And yes I see the irony of literally hiding in a closet at church!

Applications to join the Queerward Discord
We've noticed a lot of people asking where to find the link to join the discord. While we cannot safely justify having a floating link, the mod team has agreed that we can open entry to the general public. The discord is no longer limited to a know-someone basis. If you would like to join the discord, you can message @relatablemormonmoments @notsostraightandnarrow @vaguely-heavenly-things with this form: Name or nickname: Discord username: Age or general age: How I discovered Queerward: Sexuality: Gender Identity: Romantic Orientation: How long have I been out to myself: Am I out to others: If straight, am I willing to be an ally and leave discrimination at the door: Do I hold concerning biases, such as racism, homophobia, or sexism?: (y/n) If yes, am I willing to unlearn them: Do I get into fights on the internet: [regularly, only when important, never] Do I promise to follow Queerward rules: (y/n) Am I kind: (y/n) Am I interested in a server dedicated to LGBT+ Mormons: (y/n) Am I Mormon or associated with the Mormon community, including ex-mormon, post-mormon, Church of Christ?: By sending in this application, you are permitting the mods to scroll through the blog you message us from to check that you are a real person, not a troll, not homophobic, racist, or sexist, and that you tend to respect others online. We will not be accepting requests from blank blogs.

I was gonna say Elder Christofferson's talk about those who stay valiant in the gospel and how it impacts future generations makes me think of all the wonderful people I've interacted with here in the queerstake. You've made a difference and an impact on my testimony, and I hope I can help make an impact and strengthen the testimonies of younger generations of LGBT saints.

Hello Queerstake!!! (an introduction of me)
I've been on Tumblr for years as @mewuniverse (Mew for short usually) and decided that I wanted to make a sideblog to interact more with the LDS people that are here too! I'm a member of the LDS church, born and raised in that church. I am a woman married to a man with a kid of our own, and I figured out relatively recently that I'm somewhere on the asexual spectrum (ace, demi, I use both labels lol). Still, I see myself as more of an ally and want to be able to understand the stories of those in the LGBTQ+ community, including those that are currently and were formerly LDS.
Hopefully you'll see both posts from me and reblogs from the rest of the queerstake here, and I'm glad to be here with y'all and have perspectives of the LDS church that aren't just the strictly conservative ones I grew up around.

I'm having a thought about how we are supposed to call ourselves members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, not Mormons.
Perhaps referring to ourselves/the Church as Israel or children /elders of Israel is disingenuous. Inaccurate. A bad idea.
It just... Felt funny when it happened several times this conference.
I have no idea if I am looking for insight or agreement.

Sunday Afternoon Session
Conducting: Quentin L Cook
Come Rejoice
D Todd Christofferson
A limiting trait is not being valiant in your testimony
Wholehearted devotion is what we should strive for
To make it to and stay in the Celestial Kingdom we must have a firm testimony of Jesus Christ and act on that testimony
Being Valiant in your testimony of Christ
Includes nurturing and strengthening that testimony
Heading His messengers
Encouraging others by word and example
We will not let anything keep us from being together forever
Do the things Jesus shall teach and command you
Taylor G Godoy
God hears our prayers and answers them in a personalized way
Mosiah 5:12
This life by its nature brings about experiences
Call Him, don’t fall
Just because you aren’t answered immediately doesn’t mean your call wasn’t answered at all
Confidence in the Lord’s answers requires accepting that they are not always what would expect in our minds for them to be.
The Lord is the first option for help
Call Don’t Fall (pray)
After prayer do all you can to obtain the answers you pray for
Humbly accept His answers
Softly and Tenderly, Jesus is Calling
Gary E Stevenson
Where is the foundation of your bridge?
The two towers are love the Lord thy God and love your neighbor as thyself – these are the towers that the bridge of the gospel is supported by
Loving the Lord leads to eternal Happiness
Bridges our heavenly upward gaze to our heavenly outward gaze
Love of the Lord is not complete if we do not love our neighbors
Loving your neighbors includes Christlike deeps of love and service
How are you building your tower of love?
“did God call on you specifically, or were you simply the one who listened?”
These towers need to function together in balance, equal devotion, and harmony
God loves everyone and so should we; we seek out those in need and serve them regardless of race, wealth, gender identity, sexual orientation, or anything else
God commanded us to love one another. Leave judgement up to Him
How do we build our own bridge of faith and devotion?
Early drafts become polished blueprints
Mathias Held
Consequences are a part of agency
Repentance is where growth happens
Seek to learn and accept support from the Lord
In the darkness of night we can turn on our lights
We can still choose how to respond to things out of our control
We are agents not objects.
Opposites don’t exist apart from each other, they can complement each other.
Where there is sunshine, shadows must be there too. Floods brings destruction but they bring life as well
Our difficulties do not define us – it is our attitudes and choices that define us much better than our situations
How Firm a Foundation
Niel L Anderson
It is breathtaking to see the works of God
Discipline your faith, what does that mean to you?
Eleazer Cearcy – sealing story – this is why listen to promptings
Angels have charge over us
Through the power of the Holy Ghost we are filled with strength and peace and joy and unspeakable hope.
Many different ways to see the face of Christ and no better place than in His holy house
Mark L Pace
Transform our homes into sanctuaries of faith
The scriptures are here to help us draw closer to Him
How can you avoid personal apostasy?
We are responsible for our own personal spiritual growth
The most important copy of the book of Mormon is the one you read
Heavenly Father wants you to know yourself – but you must put in the effort
Russell M Nelson
Called to apostles 40 years ago!
Six temples when he was born
Ponder what the Lord’s promise means for you personally
The priesthood was restored prior to the church – to ensure that the church could be organized with the correct authority
The priesthood keys are the only way we get the essential ordinances and covenants, the only way we can have blessings the way we do – we can extend all the blessings promised to/by Abraham to all God’s children
D&C 110
The gathering of Israel is evidence God loves all of His children everywhere
The gospel of Abraham is further evidence that God loves all of His children everywhere
The sealing power is supreme evidence that God loves all of His children everywhere and wants them to return to Him
Study Kirtland temple dedicatory prayer in D&C 109
Regular temple worship will enhance how you see yourself
The temple empowers us to take on the challenges of life
You do not have to face life alone
What courage does it give you to know that angels really will help you?
No combination of wickedness will prevail over those who worship in the house of the Lord
Nothing will help you more to hold fast to the iron rod than attending the temple as regularly as you can, nothing will protect you more, nothing will bolster your testimony of Christ and His atonement, or recognize the significance of His plan, nothing will soothe your spirit more, nothing will open the blessings of Heavens more

So… funny church story that happened to me when I was little…
When I was in primary, they decided to have the kids come to the temple with our parents and teach us the importance of temples and all that. We didn’t go inside the actual temple itself, we just looked through the door.
Well, right before we walked from the church building to the temple building, they had an activity where we built our own temples out of toothpicks and mini marshmallows. Of course being a little kid, I made an igloo temple for Antarctica complete with an outdoor baptismal font for the penguins.
And then I devoured it.
Of course I got sick. As we were walking up the steps from the church parking lot to the temple, I turned to my primary teacher and was like “sister [cat], I think I’m going to puke…”
I was immediately rushed to the front of the line to puke in the bushes and it just so happened right at that moment, one of the adults took a picture of us from behind. It featured me and sister [cat] hurrying up the steps while I stumble behind trying not to puke.
A few weeks later they used that picture as part of their bulletin board right outside of the chapel to show every one of our trip. Out of context and from the position it was taken in, it looked like a group of primary children climbing up the steps to see the temple.
However! If it was taken facing us from the front, you could probably see just how sick I was and the anxiety on the poor sister’s face of not having me yak all over the beautiful temple grounds. Only me, her, and my parents know of the full context of that picture.
Moral of the story: don’t gorge yourself on a crap ton of mini marshmallows right before a temple trip.

It’s getting to a point where dealing with the “you’re not real Christians” type of people is far more exhausting than the “you hate gays” type of people when being an LDS member.

Happy Easter, everyone!
The sting of pain and death has been swallowed up in the Life, Atonement, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
A few of my favorite songs that have been on my mind for today:
He Walked a Mile in my Shoes by the Nashville Tribute Band
Gethsemane by Claire Ryan
Because He Lives by Sally DeFord
Wishing everyone a blessed and beautiful day!
