Hi, I want to start playing lotro ive seen it on steam, is it best to play it on steam or through web browser?

I'm so glad you're interested in trying lotro!!

I will say the website. While it has improved a lot recently, the Steam version has a reputation for being unstable (though a lot of people use it out of convenience).

Some tips below for when you begin playing:

Considering lotro's massive nature as an mmo, the game can be a lot at first and taking it slow is key! I'd suggest casually watching this tutorial first to get the basics. If you can't find what you need while questing, I also recommend checking out this playlist for some helpful tips!

The Lotro Wiki is another great resource for the game I use all the time, if you need to find something specific in a quest just put 'lotro wiki' at the end of your search and you should see it pop up!

I love LotRO. I really do.

I love the Laurelin server.

I just loathe some of the damn people on that server.

We have a dude who, no joke, has been stubbornly creating new account after new account for the past frigging YEAR specifically because his accounts keep getting banned. Because he is constantly harassing people. Because he’s convinced that there’s some conspiracy where the Literally Nicest Dude On The Server has riled everyone up against him because he acted like a dick during an RP-event.

LNDotS reported him after that incident, because the Asshole was spewing a lot of horrendous shit at him. Asshole was banned for a month. Came back, immediately began a hate-campaign against LNDotS and against anyone who had the audacity to tell Asshole that he was acting like, well, an asshole.

Constant harassment of people. Constant creation of alts to continue spreading hate and harassment.

Then that account was nuked. And he got creative.

Dude started creating new accounts and new characters. And he started talking up his original character. And I mean, talking up in the sense that he was actively talking like he was someone else, like he was an old friend of... himself.

This failed for a single reason. He has a VERY distinctive writing-style, which includes severe overuse of “....” and random-ass hashtags and referring to himself as “Dr [insert name of first character here]”. Everyone knew it was him immediately, and so began the long and tedious blocking-spree of each and every character that wrote in World Chat like that.

And for about 3 months, we had Peace. Peace and Quiet. Turns out, some people on the server have been stalking Asshole’s twitter, and they realised he got banned. Again.

And then came this last month. Where we’ve had a resurgence of Asshole’s shenanigans, with a whole new flavour.

The first hint we had to Asshole’s unwanted return was a sudden World Chat message. From a character with a name that was very obviously a parody of LNDotS’s main character name. Talking about LNDotS in third person and saying a whole bunch of horrendous bullshit.

Obviously, we all knew who it was, because that distinctive writing style has not been abandoned.

He did this at least twice - could be more, but I’ve only seen two of these.

So Asshole is now back again, and today he resurfaced with Yet Another Alt that was literally his first character name with an x at the end. Still spewing shit. Still calling everyone homophobes and racists and pedophiles. And still insisting that there’s been a hate-campaign going on against him for months.

When I say that I wish this dude could be IP-banned, I am not fucking joking. We have enough trolls and dickheads on the server without Asshole trying to harass LNDotS into quitting the game.

Awww thank you! and not odd at all.

I've met my rp friends over on the Landroval rp discord, which is linked below :) It's pretty big but it's also really quiet (which is more comfortable imo) But through them I've met various rp kinships where even more rp planning goes on. In the server itself there's channels for event notifs and individuals looking for rp that helped me find people too.

And welcome back to the lotro rp scene if you do decide to try again! Yeah its pretty intimidating (and hard to find these days since no one rps at the Pony hardly anymore) at first but I promise its so much fun when you find the right group of people for you (its become half of my lotro time lol) If you do decide to get back into it you're welcome to rp with any of my characters! Guess where I am? Work! Guess where I'll be until late tonight? You got it, work!

Val is capital T Tired, y'all. But still I persevere. What I wish to share with you today is an up and coming fulfillment of a prompt shared in one of my lovely discord servers, the general theme of which I'll keep a secret...for now. It's very nearly finished, so you may be seeing it in the coming days, if I can escape work + dry off from the torrential downpour of Nicholas Galitzine content that is fueling my every breath right now.

It had taken every morsel of self control that Henry possessed not to take Alex to bed right then and there. To pull him apart piece by blessed piece with his fingers, his lips, his tongue, his cock before stitching him back together with words of pride, of admiration, of gratitude, and of love. Later, he’d silently promised himself as he pressed his cheek to Alex’s shoulder, not unlike the night that Alex had quite literally stormed back into his life and demanded that Henry fight for himself, for once in his damned existence. That Henry fight for them and for the love they’d built together, chipping away tirelessly at armor he’d once thought impenetrable, leaving shards sharp enough to kill lying on the ground at their feet and an exposed and beating heart behind. A heart that Alex was determined to hold in his hand, to encompass entirely within long fingers and wide palms, vowing to always protect it without allowing it to be hidden away again.

Thanks for so many tags! Today I'm sharing some of my favorite dialogue I've ever written—if you're in the Brownstone server you may have already seen this.

It's a snippet from @affectionatelyrs birthday fic ("Gonna Save Me, Call Me Baby"), which will be shared next Thursday, but someone was a dick to her so I decided to give her an early sneak peak.

Henry shudders, thinking about Mary Mountchristen around sharp objects. No, thank you. “Even if I wanted to give her a gift—and I don’t—she’d find some reason to be horribly offended by them.” “Offended?” Alex’s face contorts in confusion—it’s quite charming, Henry thinks. But then again, he thinks he might find everything about Alex charming. “By knives?” “I mean, I think it has more to do with my mere presence,” Henry muses, leaning back against his front door. “She might worry that I’d infect them with my gayness. But, I suppose it’s also possible she might think I was implying that her collection of silver cutlery is somehow inferior to a modern set. And she’s not a great fan of modernity.” “Well,” Alex casually starts, though there’s a fierce look in his eyes. “I’m not a great fan of anyone who’s a dick to you.”

What’s the weirdest thing you have researched for the sake of a smut fic? Can be within the scope of Tolkien canon or on a topic completely outside it.

There might be some weirder stuff in older fics that I don't remember, but recently I spent an inordinate amount of time perusing texts on the Tengwar and linguistics before throwing up my hands and asking the more knowledgeable people in the Silmarillion Writers' Guild server for a linguistics question that Finrod could use to distract Feanor from catching two of his relatives in the act in Snakes and Ladders.

This is the passage:

“Then I just blurted: ‘Uncle!’ — he grimaced at that — ‘I’ve been meaning to ask you about a point in your recent lecture on the tehtar.’ ‘Yes?’ he said. ‘Er yes,’ I said, frantically trying to remember something from the talk. ‘Ah! Yes, well, as you know, I am fluent in Telerin,’ — he huffed and rolled his eyes at that — ‘and I was interested in your point about the roots of Quenya méla as it relates to Telerin māla.’ He raised his brows impatiently, but his eyes lit up. I think my youthful enthusiasm must have saved me from humiliation. ‘Well, my Telerin prince,’ he said, ‘it doesn’t,’ then he took me by the arm and indulged me with an hour lecture on the coalescing of vowels, which might have gone on until Laurelin’s flowering had not your mother tracked us down and dragged him away. But it was a small price to pay to keep him from coming upon my sister and her lover. Can you imagine!”

Her further explorations outside Mirkwood searching for her childhood friend Tihmo, a scout too, have brought her to Rivendell. Here she enjoys being helpful and would never refuse a warm beverage to sip while telling about her latest adventures.
