The Willow Project is legitimately evil. It's a huge, disastrous oil project that ConocoPhillips wants to do in Alaska. Biden approved it despite huge backlash against it and consistent protests against things similar such as cop city forest, DAPL, & Line 3.

As a democrat who wants to pretend he's for climate change and gives a shit about BIPOC and the health of humans or the planet he has a weird way of showing it.

To support natives and a greener planet reblog this to spread awareness, ally yourself against the willow project on social media, boycott Conoco, sign petitions, & call/write your reps telling them to withdraw support of ConocoPhillips oil in your state due to the hazardous Willow Project or you'll flip the next election. You didn't elect someone who'd harm the whole planet for greed did you? No. So say that.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday issued a one-page ruling rejecting requests from an Alaska Native organization and several environmental groups to delay ConocoPhillips’ construction work.

The appeals ruling came in a pair of lawsuits challenging the Biden administration’s March 13 approval of the Willow project. The project, which promises to be the biggest Alaska oil development in decades, would be the westernmost producing oil field on the North Slope. It is located within the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska, and it would tap into reserves estimated at about 600 million barrels, producing a peak of 180,000 barrels per day.

i see people talking about the discordification of fandom and it just seems like going back to when forums were a thing. when i started going online my fandoms were splintered into a handful of little free proboards forums where you could go to rp, or post fic, or make a fanart thread, or just, you know, fight with other children. and if it wasn't on the forum, essentially nobody saw it. and it was awful because it was full of children. it was terrible.

and people would pop up and be mysteriously popular and beloved even though you have never seen a single thing they've produced and you'd find out: oh they wrote a novel on this other forum you've never heard of. they're really cool but you weren't there you missed it you missed the whole thing and that forum is password protected and you can't get in because all the mods went to college and it's never coming back. and there'd be that amazing artist that started a thread, posted one masterpiece and left. and there'd be trolls of the blatant variety and of the type that are just subtle enough to not get banned

and there were custom emojis, like discord. and there were Mods, like discord. and you'd find a couple of cool people and go into DMs and complain about the other little children who were less cool than you, like discord. and if someone like me had a stupid opinion, i could go into someone else's thread and derail it, instead of making a tumblr post that drops harmlessly into the void. like discord.

the only thing missing: proboards forums could have custom color schemes and could be made ugly and it was magical

When working with an arboreal spirit (Old Man Willow, the Juniper Mistress, the Elder Mother) or really any spirit for that matter, how do you determine the gender of the spirit? Is it something directly communicated? Do you address them based on instinct about their gender or is it folklore from how they were addressed in the past that prompts it? Is this how the spirit communicates itself to you specifically? Meaning could another practitioner interact with the exact same spirit and perceive it as female, even though you experience it as male, and vice versa? I love reading your posts about tree spirits but they’ve prompted this curiosity.

In my experience, spirits do not experience gender in the way humans do. I answered a question about that here in more depth, but I essentially believe that numinous entities tend to "take on" gender presentation when interacting with humans, in the process of making themselves observable to us. I think this largely has to do with human beliefs and expectations creating a kind of "psychic impression" that affects the manifestation of a spirit. This doesn't mean a spirit will always present in a particular way, but I think that the longer a numinous Wight has been regarded and propitiated under a certain guise, the more defined and consistent that "psychic impression" becomes.

I think that using existing lore is a good rule of thumb where this sort of thing is involved—such as the lore of the Elder Mother or the Juniper Mistress—but aside from that, I mostly rely on dreams and intuitions. I often don't experience any sort of inclination about gender when working with spirits, one way or another, but when I do (such as with Old Man Willow or Lady Whitethorn,) it almost always comes out of my mouth before I've even had time to think about it, but then feels instinctively right and true.

thinking about your actor au ... thinking about Hunter not being allowed to be his natural healthy body weight. thinking about his scars getting covered with make-up. thinking about the gap in his teeth getting edited away whenever possible. thinking about Amity having to appear Perfect at all times. thinking about Luz and Willow probably getting their hair straightened before filming. thinking about all of them getting dressed a certain way for Marketability. THINKING. VERY HARD.

You are so me. I'm always thinking. Always.

Willow didn't even know Hunter had scars until after knowing him for MONTHS because whenever she saw him he was always caked in makeup. Nobody ever noticed when he got a new one.

Hunter wears a dental flipper. Which is basically just a set of false upper teeth that he clips in over his real ones.

Amity is under heaps of stress to perform well in school, to keep up with her acting classes, to stay on top of work, to never appear as tired or overwhelmed, to keep her reputation squeaky.

You read my mind about the hair!! They DO straighten it!! Luz isn't an actor but just like in canon, she fries it to fit in better. All the characters she admires on TV have straight hair.

And I'm so sorry to give this bit of info about Willow but...early on in this AU, she really does not like the way she looks. At all. She's very insecure about it. Tons of young girls fall victim to an inferiority complex from the conventional Hollywood beauty standard but also. It is so SO much worse if you're an actress. And you constantly feel out of place. So Willow allows her big poofy curly hair to be straightened. Braided. Tied back. Whatever they feel like they need to do to make her more palatable to their audience. She's such a doormat before she meets Luz.

They ARE dressed a certain way. Modest. Colourful. Flashy and child friendly. An insane amount of layers and chunky accessories.

But Willow is very aware that the people in wardrobe are way more enthusiastic to dress Amity than her. They dress the two girls distinctly differently. Both aren't allowed to show too much skin but she can't help but notice that sometimes Amity gets to wear tank tops. Or skirts without leggings. But never Willow. It seems like Willow always has to be covered.

She doesn't want to show her bare arms. Or bare legs. She really really really doesn't. So she should be relieved they don't make her, right?

Well....its complicated. Because even if she does not want to dress like Amity at all, it really does reinforce her inkling suspicion. There is something wrong with the way she looks and people want to keep her covered. It's hurts. It hurts quite a lot.

TOH fans if you're not sure what to do now that TOH is over, I recommend reading In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan! It's a YA coming of age story about a boy named Elliot who ends up in a magical world that isn't at all like the fairy tales he's been used to hearing. It's a very sweet (but also serious at times) story and all the characters are wonderful. And, just like Luz, Elliot is bisexual!!! I highly recommend it!
