It's a dangerous thing to mistake speaking without thought for speaking the truth.

blanc and phillip are like captain holt and kevin, equally sophisticated but more open with their emotions, as we saw with the "No! Its just DUMB!"
Maybe they even have a little dog or a spoiled cat

what i think people are missing about derol in glass onion is that he is played by noah segan. the same guy who played trooper wagner in the first knives out movie. and i for one, think noah should continue to play goofy little characters in the rest of the knives out movies. not anything to do with the mystery, not a potential killer or anything, just a goofy little guy living his best life, fangirling over his fave mystery author and getting high as hell on a billionaires greek island. good for him.

I like that Benoit Blanc is in many ways a homage to previous fictional detectives, but he himself is not the central character. I think that’s what makes it fresh - the films focus on Marta and Helen, not his ability to detect and deduce which is something you can get in pretty much any detective story.

no but i need to know how hugh “phillip the baker dilf” grant pulled benoit “the greatest detective in the world” blanc??? personally i think it would be very funny if said greatest detective in the world was completely oblivious to hugh grant’s flirting until said baker dilf, in true romcom fashion, literally wrote his phone number with frosting on a donut for him or something.

I really liked Glass Onion. As someone who is not a cinematographer, even I could see the quality of this piece of artwork. Some of the things I noticed that I thought deserved some attention are:
Whisky the cliché blond girlfriend was given more depth than what happens normally. Whisky was still compliant with many of the problems. she was not written off as a tool just to show another character’s personality.
As in the first move, there is a spectacular twist in Glass Onion. It was unique and surprising while also giving the movie a feel that can become a truly classic series. Also, the twist is given enough time to be fully flushed out. Sometimes in movies,(think a heist movie) the twist happens right in the last twenty minutes. It’s not nearly enough time after our perception of the events and characters has been turned on the head. But Glass Onion gets a solid amount of time. A perfect amount of time.
Now to be a Film Professor without being a film professor.
The way we were shown emotions without it having to be stated out loud! Is this what a good movie looks like? The way Adie grips the railing of the boat to show ‘anger’. Amazing! I never want another voiceover describing the emotion again.

Did anyone rove notice the framing of some of the shots? The focused person is in the foreground, a second in the mid-ground, and a third in the background. The rule of three was used perfectly. I know people have already pointed out the luggage as a placeholder for the people. With Adie and Blanc positioned away from the bags. Rule of three again.

Glass Onion and Knives Out give hope that good movies, that are enjoyable, can be made. It makes me wonder why I tolerate sub-pare movies that are made to be put out as quickly as possible. With the content not even being entertaining. This raises my expectations as well as standards.
Long story short, I liked the movie.

I still can't believe my dad didn't like glass onion and had the audacity to say straight up it was a bad movie
He said it was too extravagant and unrealistic. my guy, this is a movie about a stupid billionaire who owns a fucking island, its supposed to be exaggerated
He also said it was too different from the first one, which to me is a good thing because then is not repetitive, and that blanc seems like a completely different character

Two characters I really like in glass onion are whiskey and Peg or I should say the type of person they represent are very interesting to me since unlike most of the group they aren't as wealthy or powerful but they're still willing to play the game if its beneficial to them they also don't speak out against Miles when given the chance sure Whiskey might say to Helen privately that she thinks what happened to Andi was shitty but actually defending her in front of others not happening

The themes of grief and the love that endures for the ones we lose and how that love motivates us are so pervasive in the heroines of both Knives Out and Glass Onion they’re steeped in it. Marta keeps going because of her love and duty to the wishes of her friend whose last act was to protect her even when they’d both thought that she had killed him. Helen contacts Blanc and willingly goes to an island where she KNOWS someone will likely attempt to kill her in order to avenge and restore the dignity of the sister she loved so much and she’ll gladly burn the world down around herself to do so. It’s no mistake these two women work in nursing and teaching, fields which require a deep care for others in order to excel. It is their caring that makes both Marta and Helen and ultimately earns them their victories.

Benoit Blanc's similarities to other fictional detectives
Specifically Holmes, Poirot and Columbo because I'm most familiar with them and saw many of their characteristics in Blanc.
Impeccable clothes - Poirot
Cigar - Columbo
Post-case slump - Holmes
Eccentric - Holmes, Poirot, Columbo
Detection as a means of helping people, not just for the sake of solving crimes - Holmes (and Poirot and Columbo to a slightly lesser extent)
Fun name – Holmes, Columbo, Poirot
Referred to by surname (almost) all of the time, even by close friends/partners – Columbo, Holmes, Poirot
Kindness to and deep respect for vulnerable women – Holmes, Columbo, Poirot
Said to be the best detective in the world – Holmes, Poirot
Fun American accent – Columbo
Hates rich people who abuse their financial influence – Holmes, Columbo, Poirot
Polite – Columbo (of course Holmes and Poirot can also be very polite but I don't feel like it's a defining characteristic for them the way it is for Columbo)
Rude to mean rich people in a way that is so polite the horrible rich people don’t realise they’re being made fun of/talked to rudely – Holmes, Poirot
Politeness and diplomacy that is often pushed too far and they explode into explicit anger – Holmes, Columbo, Poirot
Drama in resolution – all three to varying degrees, but especially Poirot
Understated and affable – Columbo
Involved in self-contained stories – Columbo, Poirot, Holmes (though a couple of Holmes stories do link closely to previous stories)
Uses the word 'afoot' – Holmes
Gay – Holmes, Poirot (I'll let you decide if this applies to Columbo)
