#edit: Marta also acts out of love for her family and to protect them
Text
The themes of grief and the love that endures for the ones we lose and how that love motivates us are so pervasive in the heroines of both Knives Out and Glass Onion they’re steeped in it. Marta keeps going because of her love and duty to the wishes of her friend whose last act was to protect her even when they’d both thought that she had killed him. Helen contacts Blanc and willingly goes to an island where she KNOWS someone will likely attempt to kill her in order to avenge and restore the dignity of the sister she loved so much and she’ll gladly burn the world down around herself to do so. It’s no mistake these two women work in nursing and teaching, fields which require a deep care for others in order to excel. It is their caring that makes both Marta and Helen and ultimately earns them their victories.
