whump question challenge by @withalittlebitofwhump! thought it'd be fun to answer these all in one go, it's an old challenge but i found it and said "why not?"

if you're new to my blog, here's some info abt me and whump!

alright, here we go:

1. Favorite whump trope(s)?

answer: hidden injury or collapse, preferably together! also prefer when it's from an abdominal wound (stabbing, GSW, etc)

2. Least favorite whump trope(s)?

answer: anything to do with just regular sickness/emeto. or allergic reactions. not a fan of anything that i see as potentially embarrassing (?).

3. Top 3 whump scenes and why?

answer: this is so hard??? omg. uh, okay:

1. all of the whump scenes in he is psychometric (i can't choose) they're the ones i rewatch CONSTANTLY, jinyoung's acting is amazing and it's got all my fav tropes

2. daredevil episode 2 because damn, they really gave us an entire whumpy episode so early in the series and it's AMAZING

3. the vault scene in be reborn (c-drama), the way it's filmed and also the acting, the length, it's SO GOOD.

4. Top 3 characters to whump and why?

answer: (this is so hard lol)

1. buck (911) because he's got the relatability, the found family, and everything

2. keith (VLD), all the good tropes but only in fics, sadly

3. peter parker (MCU) again, because he's relatable and has (had) found family

5. Favorite fandom for whump (show, series, etc)?

answer: currently it's gotta be 911! it's a treasure trove for found family whump.

6. Do you prefer written or watchable whump?

answer: watchable for sure! though, i'm a huge consumer of whump fics.

7. Do you also like hurt/comfort?

answer: i'm mainly a hurt/comfort person, actually! if there's no recovery/aftercare and comfort, the whump falls a bit flat imo.

8. What do you think the difference between hurt/comfort and whump is?

answer: i'd say whump refers to the act of the character being hurt, and then hurt/comfort is the trope that includes whump.

9. How would you explain whump to someone who’s not familiar with it?

answer: i'd say that whump refers to a character being hurt in some way, rather physically, emotionally, or psychologically. it's a trope that many enjoy, and it adds development and drama to a storyline!

10. Is there any old whump you particularly enjoy? (say, pre 2000?)

answer: hmm, star wars comes to mind, as well as the OG macgyver, and the karate kid trilogy! right now i can't think of much else.

11. Why do you think you like whump?

answer: i think i like it because of the interactions and drama (plus the "whumperflies" lol). i tend to like whump for characters i can relate to!

12. When did you realize you liked whump?

answer: oh god, i've always known i liked it! it's such an integral part of my media consumption. when i discovered the community + fanfic, i was around ten or eleven (young, i know!). so probably around seven years ago, almost eight since i've been actually knowledgeable about the term.

answer: gifsets or whumplists, they help me find what to watch!

14. Are you “out” to people in real life?

answer: mostly, yeah! my family knows, since my sister also enjoys whump (not as much as me, but still some!) and will recommend shows to me based on that.

some of my irl friends are avid fanfic readers/in fandoms and know the term well. :)

answer: 1980's macgyver whump list :)

answer: some kpop music videos have really good whump scenes!

i also think we could use more of the "injured character calls someone for help and passes out over the phone" trope. it's so good.

answer: tumblr (obv), the whumpapedia is good, ao3 best fanfic site, and that's about all i use!

answer: my preferences have honestly stayed pretty consistent! i've always loved hidden injury, abdominal wound, and collapse whump. however, i used to be rlly into panic attack-related whump and i don't rlly like it much anymore!

i just read open like a hinge and its SO GOOD!! i absolutely loved how they wrote yeong's pov and the unrequited pining hurt SO good in the first chapter (even if you can tell gon definitely loves him) ugh and i loved the injured/comfort trope. i always wanted to see how gon would react to him being hurt and this was perfect. it just reminds me how in the show they set up a beautiful friendship in the first ep and mostly dropped it until the end UGH they shouldve developed it more fr

omg ISN'T IT SO GOOD dksfjghskdfjg!!!!!!! I love that yeong was allowed to be petty and passive aggressive because, i think, at the end of the day yeong is human and he was dealt a shit hand in the face of his unrequited feelings and i ADORED how they portrayed his character. the fact that there was a smidge of internal homophobia but ultimately yeong knows who he is and what he wants and has grown into a man unapologetic about his desires while also knowing that he will never have the opportunity to be with the one person who wants most in the entire universe(s) is so compelling.

i also think the author did a seriously phenomenal job showing gon reacting to yeong being hurt!!!!!!!! like it's literally everything i wanted!! the way he had his feelings realization!! the way you just see the image of him carrying yeong to the ambulance! that he didn't leave yeong's side! that he's so mad that yeong keeps saying it's his duty and better him than gon!! and the way he arranges the entire trip and THEN gets so goddamn upset when yeong keep disregarding himself just to continue serving gon!!! the angst? the emotions? were so well handled because you have these two men who have lived for over twenty years in each other's spheres and there's so much unsaid and their perceptions are so human because they are just that-- their own facts not objective, never, not when it comes to the person who means the most to them!!!!

yeah, i don't know how i'm ever going to watch tkem all the way through a third time because i feel like with the second rewatch my brain exploded and i can never unsee the relationship between gon and yeong and what could've been. and ignoring my shipping self for a moment, it's like you said-- these two men were set up to be best friends. gon is the only one yeong lives for and yeong is gon's guiding light, the only person he's let in and in the face of tae-eul and a heteromantic relationship they totally disregarded that.

all of which to say-- i come bearing two more fic recs lol. like i said in my message last night, i have no idea if you'll like these but i read them in october and they devastated me and i've spent the better part of the week rereading them and they devastated me once more and i think this author also does a fabulous job of dissecting these characters-- their emotions, their flaws, the thoughts. good and bad-- and it left me just really content in a melancholic way.

both of these are yeong/sin-jae/hyeonmin

El monstruo en la almohada

this one is one that i reread thursday and most of yesterday. i love how the aftermath of what yeong (and sin-jae) is handled and it's just a fic that's very healing. i also appreciated exploring gon and yeong's friendship-- exactly in light of who gon is and how he treated yeong, especially leaving him in the republic for months with everything that lead to.

Heridas Abiertas (Exit Wounds)

i reread this tuesday? it shares similarities/parallels to the above fic but i love that the author had different ideas on how the aftermath could go and then wrote both of them!!! because yeong is such an interesting character, i would read a dozen fics that are just slightly different just to explore all the possibilities. in this one, his relationship with gon is different to the first and i really liked seeing how things can change such important relationships or how they can manage to stay the same through it all.

like I mentioned, my headspace hasn't been the best and both of these fics catered to that. i obviously don't know how you are but i just would recommend these for anyone who liked tkem because they're both gorgeous pieces of writing and also for anyone who might be feeling a little sad or lost or hopeless or empty or generally melancholic <3

Concerned with how things were left after U-20, Isagi goes to visit Rin before the end of break. They address it. Sort of. notes: not necessarily a rinsagi shipper but this fic has a stunningly accurate portrayal of MLM romance; no sense of false idealism or over-romanticization; rin and isagi’s natural dynamic is perfectly captured; strong imagery and cultural setting of kamakura; rin’s sarcasm is on point

all it takes is five dates for kaiser to fall in love with you and you in him, much to your surprise. notes: this fic actually made me believe in love; strong female character; fear of love and gradual opening up; basically what it feels like to fall in love with someone you never thought you’d actually love; realistic depiction of insecurities

Coral Island - This is the first farming game I've played so the learning curve is a bit steep, but it's so pretty and the characters are so fun (also my first time romancing a character, which is also fun).

[watching]

Castaway Diva - What a perfectly fantastic drama, with a beautiful soundtrack, plenty of angst, and an amazing cast.

Moon in the Day - I knew it couldn't end in a happily ever after, but I'm glad we got to see their next life's meet cute. This drama was just as good as I'd hoped.

The Sign - They went full Criminal Minds on steroids with the police investigation which was a little surprising for a show that pixelates butts. Speaking of pixelated butts, Tharn's sex dream was interrupted by the realization that there was a window in the shower, looking out onto the bed. They really need to stop filming in hotel rooms. Or at least acknowledge that Tharn has very specific kinks. LOL

↳ mafia au + ot7 x reader. every character in here needs to go therapy but also not because i need to see more drama unfold. ot7 seems to care for the mc but their actions shown are... uhmm... questionable. but that makes this fic good though! reading each chapter like it’s the morning newspaper

↳ idolverse au + vmin x reader. GOD THIS WAS INTENSE, i was shaking, gasping, and throwing uppp!! vmins are menaces in this one but god you can’t help but want more D: i’m like the mc--who’s a moth attracted to the flame.

↳ a/b/o au + poly ot7 x reader. each relationships between the members and towards reader is mysterious and there was underlying tension of meeting the pack’s expectation. in some way, it gets uncomfy at some parts yet that is what keeps each chapter an enjoyable read.

↳ soulmate au + ot7 x reader. mc is very unlucky gal... not only having one BUT SEVEN yandere as soulmates lmaoo.. and the soulmark inflicts on both people if one of them gets hurt. that’s rough damn! i’m still unsure if all of them know that all of them are sending her letters. keep notifications ON for this fic

- nephilim by @royallyjoon

↳ cult + supernatural au + poly ot7 x reader. it was defintlely chilling while i read this. while there’s some sense of normalcy, the larger control of the cult makes keeps us feeling uneasy.

↳ ceo + christmas au + poly namkook x reader. namkook is crazy and unhinged when they show their true colors. jungkook is very VERY sweet tho i cant hate him rip

- strangers by @bestaez

↳ strangers from hell au + ot7 x reader. i haven’t read watched the kdrama so i can’t compare between the two. this is definitely interesting as we can see SOME insight to how ot7 plans it and covers up their tracks to avoid getting caught. i hope the mc can get the tf out that apartment and we can see the reasoning for these actions of ot7 in future chapters

- school f*cking sucks! series by @sluttyandere

↳ high school au + maknae line x reader. all characters are of legal age btw! sucks to be mc because she just getting snatched from each guy like that. and she’s the class president but kinda powerless since two of them control her status at the school. all three of them are massively wicked and im kinda digging it LMAO

- thou shall not steal by @xherxx

↳ mafia + spy + enemies to lovers au + poly ot7 x reader. as the author mentioned, this fic is on the lighter side of the yandere spectrum. i love the mc in this fic. a girlboss icon actually. adored every interactions between the mc and each member. it’s a VERY pleasant read lol

- where three stars meet by @girlmeetsliv3

↳ poly sope x reader. this felt like a movie to this. i could picture everything in my head and sope was quite mysterious in this. and the little details placed throughout the story makes it enticing to continue reading.

- “why you look so pretty when you cry?” by @minniepetals

↳ mafia au + poly ot7 x reader. the way ot7 brings hopes up for the mc before crushing them down so she breaks and realizes that her only option is them is tragic for the mc... yet it’s a whole serve!
