1) Sayaka Miki from Puella Magi: Madoka Magica. She's so selfless and brave and funny and the best bisexual girl in anime. I love everything about this funky blue girl.

2) Bea Santello from Night in the Woods. Depressed, working class, abuse survivor, leftist - Bea and I have a TON in common. Virtually every word out of her mouth is a Big Mood.

3) Sienna Khan from RWBY. A brilliant, revolutionary minority rights leader with an absolutely gorgeous character design, she deserved so much better than her <5 minutes of screen time before she was offed by a far lesser character.

4) Hester Shaw from the Mortal Engines Quartet. Complicated, morally gray, disabled, and horrifically disfigured. That Hester is allowed to be ruthless and ugly and broken in a series written by a man and that those are some of her most important character traits as a protagonist is nothing short of incredible.

5) Sombra from Overwatch. The very first instant I saw this lady I was head over heels in love. Her aesthetic is godly, her personality is so much fun, and more than that she's such a departure from the Latina stereotypes we usually see on the rare occasions when we're represented in video games.

6) Sachiko Fujinuma from Erased. Best fictional mom ever. Enough said.

7) Amethyst from Steven Universe. I haven't actually sat down and watched the show, but I had a roommate who used to watch it and every little bit I caught with Amethyst in it I loved. Also her design fucking rocks.

8) Blake Belladonna from RWBY. I have a bit of a love-hate thing going on with Blake. For the first three seasons I adored this cool, smart, stoic cat girl struggling with racism and a difficult past. The fourth season of the series destroyed a ton of her character, and she started preaching extremely Bad opinions on resisting racism. But her character arc as an intimate partner abuse survivor was beautiful.

9) Britta Perry from Community. Even though the show itself refuses to acknowledge it, Britta is very clearly a rare depiction of an autistic woman. I connect so much with her social awkwardness, her buzzkill opinions, her gender non-conformity, and her past with emotionally abusive parents.

10) Kate Veatch from Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. Kate was the first polyamorous bisexual I ever saw in a piece of media. A lawyer with a passion for underdog cases and unicorns and a zero tolerance policy for bullshit, she's just an awesome person to boot.

# 37 Post: A Kate Veatch Tribute

Now I know on a past post https://alpha-moon.tumblr.com/post/167331305642/13-post-8-characters-i-relate-to I named characters whom I relate to or been told I am like. Today I was looking at movies I grew up watching on video and DVD with a friend. Then I remembered this movie.

So I am hoping to show my friend movie for this movie actually takes a lot of overused plot points and give them a new spin. Now of all the characters featured, which one is the one that made younger me look up to? Kate Veatch!

Yes, I know what would make her stick out to me as a kid? Well, one huge personality trait is the following.

Another thing that made Kate stick out, she was kind to people, yet was not just a pretty face, she also stood her ground. I know women characters in movies (mostly live action) between 1997-2004 or till my birth to when this movie was released had a few stand out women characters. Especially in a more modern day setting, so this character meant a lot to see. (spoilers yet it is my post so skip to next mini paragraph) Also for a running gag of everyone figuring out her sexuality, she was one of my top five or maybe even three characters younger me to recall saying she is Bi. Yes, I am Pan, yet this character made the idea of the seeds of comfort knowing I was not completely straight. Granted I am now looking up this scene and feel a bit conflicted with the extended edit of the scene of her coming out moment. I know it's due to the age of the film but I still feel like we don't talk about Kate Veatch from Dodgeball enough. Here's my appreciation post for her:

Accomplished and professional career woman whose immediate response to the male lead being skeevy towards her is to say that she mostly prosecutes sexual harassment cases

Uses her talents as a lawyer to help clients she views as underdogs rather than taking easier cases that pay better

Has an absolutely awful tacky as hell ultra-feminine sense of decor/obsession with unicorns that I love

Is also a skilled tomboyish athlete who saves her male teammates' asses on multiple occasions and consistently outshines most of them

Kisses her girlfriend in front of a stadium full of people and international TV cameras

When her teammates instantly assume she's a lesbian she looks them dead in the eyes with a smirk on her face and says "I'm not a lesbian - I'm BISEXUAL"

Kisses a man to punctuate her statement and to let everyone know that she's also polyamorous

Tbh I’m still not over the female lead of Dodgeball being canonically bisexual and polyamorous. And the movie using it as a plot twist to make the other characters look stupid for assuming that she had to be either straight or a lesbian was pure gold.
