*Shikamaru walking into the Hokage office*
Shikamaru: Lord Hokage? I just have a few papers for you to look over before you leave for the night, and —
Shikamaru: Eh?
*the room seems to be empty; until Shikamaru notices a sandal sticking out from underneath the desk*
Shikamaru, crouching down: … what are you doing under there??
Kakashi: Hiding.
Shikamaru: From?
Kakashi: Gai.
Shikamaru: Why are you hiding from him?
Kakashi: This morning, before I left, I accidentally ate the last of his chocolate cake. I thought he wouldn’t notice but he’s been messaging me all day asking where it is. I finally told him I ate it and he said he’s “coming to pick me up” after work.
Shikamaru, sighing: Lord … Kakashi-Sensei. You’re the Hokage. You’re the leader of our entire village. You can’t be scared over something so mundane.
Kakashi: Maybe you’re right.
Kakashi: By the way, Temari stopped in while you were running errands earlier. She wanted to know why you didn’t take out the garbage this morning like she asked you to. Seemed pretty angry; she also said she’d be by for YOU after work. But I guess you’re not scared of that, right?
Shikamaru:
Shikamaru: *gets on his hands and knees and crawls under the desk* Move over.

We have two prompts per day for a total of sixteen! As always, feel free to create for as many or as few as you have time and inspiration for!
This year we have a number of prompts with dual or mirrored topics; creating for those feel free to use the paired combination/comparison or only one or the other (e.g. you could write about Kakashi suffering a curse, and not touch on 'blessing' - or only that having the curse removed is a blessing, or the curse is a blessing in disguise), as you like!
As per last year's consensus, we will be doing prompt discussion posts again! Please do let us know (via ask, message, or comment on this post, however you like) if there are any of these prompts you'd particularly like us to highlight with one, we likely won't get to them all!
As always, all newly-created Kakashi-centric works are welcome in our event, and we look forward to seeing what you create!

Challenger’s Puzzle
Prompt: Puzzle
Au: Pokemon Au
Characters: Hatake Kakashi & Sai (yes i know i forgot to give him his name but it’s sai i promise)
Words: 1,495
@kakashiweek
3 minutes and 22 seconds. A new record.
Kakashi had never seen anyone weave their way through his gym maze and locate Chimecho in her chosen hiding spot in such a quick amount of time.
There was just one problem with it.
“Do it again,” he spoke firmly, barley looking up from his book as Jolteon lay across his legs happily napping.
“I’m sorry?”
“Do it again,” he repeated as he flipped to the next page. “And this time take out your pokemon.”
“Take out my pokemon?” Kakashi expects anger. Every trainer to date who had to be given those same instructions always yelled at him for suddenly adding a new requirement, even though there was a warning at the front of the gym stating that the challenge had to be completed with their aid of one of their pokemon. What he gets instead is Confusion.
Complete, genuine confusion.
Lowering his book he examined the kid standing in front of him. Tall, dark haired and so pale that Kakashi could swear he could disappear into snow without issue.
Not the usual hot headed trainer he found at his gym doors.
“There’s a sign at the front door,” waving his hand to the side, he watched as the kid narrowed his eyes. “Says the gym challenge is to be taken with one of your pokemon. It can be your first pokemon, or a pokemon you’ve bonded with more than any other. I don’t really care which Pokemon you choose but you need to choose one of them.”
“Why?”
Kakashi stared at the kid, weighing his next response in his kind. He could go the usual cold, aloof route but this didn’t seem like a question that was being asked out of malice or anger.
It was genuine. His challenge had somehow confused the kid and a proper explanation was required so that is what Kakashi would give him.
Snapping his book shut he set it off to the side and gave his full attention to the challenge for the first time since he’d walked through the gym doors.
“The challenge is to work with your Pokemon to find Chimecho,” hearing her name, Chimecho floated toward Kakashi and settled around his shoulders, he ribbon curling loosely around his neck. “You’re meant to let your Pokemon lead the way. To shoe you where to go and listen to anything they may try to tell you with movement or noise.”
not everyone was able to understand the assignment, but Kakashi didn’t need his challengers to get it perfect. An honest effort at teamwork was all he really wanted to see. As long as that effort was there the actual teamwork could be improved upon.
“But i-“
Kakashi held up a hand to silence the kid. “You found Chimecho,” he confirmed, a smile tugging at the edge of his lips when Chimecho rubbed herself against his cheek. “Without the aid of a Pokemon. You would have been told at the entrance that you needed to do the challenge with the aid of one of your pokemon, correct?”
“Yes.” The challenger answered without hesitation.
“Yet you chose to keep your Pokemon inside of its ball and do the challenge without it?”
“I didn’t need it help with the challenge.” there’s a confidence in his words that sets Kakashi on edge. A confidence that he has heard before, long ago when he was still a brand new trainer himself working on his gym challenge. Squinting, he could almost see Yamato standing in the kids place with wide bright eyes and a head full of terrible beliefs from his so called ‘guardian’.
Closing his book he used it to gently bonk Jolteon on the head and smiled when she glared up at him. “Sorry, I need to get up,” with a huff and a slight roll of her body, Jolteon plopped down onto the floor in front of Kakashi and splayed herself up with her belly exposed. “Ah, yes. Of course.”
Rather than getting to his feet as he had originally planned, Kakashi shoved himself up just enough so that he was sitting on the tips of his feet and placed a hand on Jolteon’s belly. “You may not have needed help,” he spoke, his eyes focusing on the challenger while he gave Jolteon her much desired belly rubs. “But the point of the challenge is to complete it with your Pokemon.”
His words were met with a blank stare. There was no argument, no anger, and not even a hint of annoyance. Just an expressionless face that stared at him as if waiting for further explanation.
“Let me guess,” he gave Jolteon one final pat on the stomach before finally standing to face his challenge. “Pokemon are a tool, not a friend?” hearing those words from someone else’s mouth was bad enough, but saying them himself made Kakashi want to wrech. They were vile, cruel words that he always hoped he’d never have to hear again but always found himself listening to at least once a year when the newest batch of Pokemon trainers found their way to his gym.
He wasn’t sure why, but his gym seemed to attract some of the worst trainers. They weren’t bad because they were weak, since it would be impossible for them to even challenge his gym is they were incapable of beating the seven other gyms ahead of him.
No, they were the worst because of their beliefs.
Pokemon were meant to be their friends. Their companions in their journey, helping them achieve their goals. Anyone who considered such lovely creatures as a ‘tool’ was scum in Kakashi’s mind.
“Fine,” he glanced down at Jolteon. “You can have a battle.”
Surprise crossed over the trainers face for a second before settling back into that same blank expression he’d worn since he first entered the battle area. “So, I don’t have to go back?”
Waving away the question, Kakashi turned his back to the kid and began making his way towards his side of the battle field. Every step he took Chimecho rang her bell, cheering him on in her own special way. “Someone like you isn’t going to learn anything if I just send you back out there and force you to take out a pokemon,” that was a lesson he’d learned the hard way. “You get three Pokemon.”
“So a Three Vs Three battle?” Kakashi couldn’t help but laugh at the question. “Is something funny.”
Stopping, he pointed down at Jolteon. “I’ll have one,” he clarified. “You will have three.”
“That… doesn’t seem like much of a challenge.”
Taking the final few steps toward his spot, Kakashi turned back towards the kid and smiled. A small, warm smile that he remembered offering to Yamato the first time they properly faced each other in battle. There had been a lot more on the line in the battle, as Yamato had decided to use the venasaur Kakashi gifted him to ‘prove’ that Pokemon were tools to be used, but it wasn’t any more important than this one.
“Every Pokemon is precious,” he explained as Jolteon took her place on the field. “A trainer who views their Pokemon as a tool can have the best strategies available to them, and they’ll still lose to a trainer who treats their Pokemon with the respect that they deserve.”
“Yet, here I stand,” the challenge argued even as he took his place and selected one of the Pokeballs noff of his belt. “I have all seven previous gym badges to prove that I have beaten every gym leader before you.” Kakashi laughed again, this time a bit brighter. It was a funny thought to him, a kid thinking that he had beaton Yamato and Gai when they were going all on a match. “What’s so funny?”
“You,” he answered, his smile only growing when the kid narrowed his eyes. “They were going easy on you.”
It was their job, after all. As Gym leaders they were meant to test new trainers, not beat them so badly that they never wanted to battle again. It was the one thing that everyone could agree made Kakashi a bad gym leader.
He had the skills of a gym leader and the patience required to teach new trainers who wanted to learn from him, but unlike the others Kakahsi didn’t hold back. He didn’t go all out, but he often didn’t need to. A new trainer with less than five years of experience was unlikely to present him with any real difficulties in battle.
Thankfully there were actually more than Eight gyms in the region, because otherwise the yearly league would be rather boring because of Kakashi’s refusal to go easy on new trainers.
“One vs three,” he repeated, holding up each of his hands with the respective number of fingers extended for emphasis. “You think you can handle that?”
“Easily,” his challenger confirmed before throwing his Pokeball out. “Smeargle, I choose you!”

Oopsie daisy here’s a drabble for @kakashiweek
Day 1, 09/10
Prompt 1/A - Library
“These are overdue.”
“Yes.”
“All of these are overdue.”
“That’s very likely, yes.”
“Some of them are overdue by…six years.”
Kakashi scratched the bridge of his nose and cleared his throat. He watched as the more-than-slightly-perturbed librarian swiped hastily through the stack of books he’d hauled in to return, logging each with an irritated little click-click-clack on the keys next to her. She eyed him warily as he smiled, hoping to appear apologetic and not at all like he was hiding the fact that this was only half the stack so far, the others still waiting patiently on his bookshelf at home.
“You accrue fines you know,” she said, her voice maintaining a nasal-flat tone of irritation, faced with the obvious irk of so many overdue texts showing up on her desk mere minutes before closing. Kakashi had tried to get here in time to do this earlier, truly he had - at Gai’s ever-growing behest. But he’d promised his dogs a walk, and then on the way back he’d remembered he needed to pick up leeks for dinner, and while he was at it he may as well get some other things for the week, and then of course he could say hi to Ino and get flowers for Gai, and speaking of he remembered Gai had asked him to try some of that new white peach tea they’d spied in the tea shop window the previous weekend, and really the weather was so nice this time of year, and the park was mostly empty, and his favourite spot beneath the tree was unoccupied, and then of course that meant he could probably sneak a nap in, and he had so few days off now, just a little quiet nap wouldn’t be too bad—
“Lord Sixth.”
Kakashi blinked, then smiled politely, as the librarian cocked an expectant brow. Her palm was out and he looked down squarely at the centre of it.
“I do apologize,” he said as genuinely as he could muster. “It must have slipped my mind to return these…uh…but I did get quite a bit of use out of them over the years.” He eyed the top title, Taijutsu Tactics, and wondered if he’d be fined additionally for the doodle he’d scribbled onto the corner of page 87, of Gai doing a handstand.
“I said you accrued fines,” the librarian deadpanned, not skipping a beat. “You owe the village 1,782 ryō. Lord Sixth.”
Oof.
Kakashi rubbed the back of his neck and heard a scoff from the charming librarian’s fellow clerk, who was gathering her things to leave. He sighed - Hokage or not he definitely didn’t carry that much money on him - and reached into his pocket. He extracted 400 ryō and placed it into the waiting hand of the librarian. Her fingers did not close and she huffed.
“That’s all I have on me for now,” he said. “Again, I do apologize. Perhaps I could come back tomorrow—“ The other clerk stood at the door tapping her foot and cleared her throat. “—earlier tomorrow, and pay the rest?”
A pause, his best little eye crinkle, a scrunched nose grin, the face of the beloved Rokudaime and definitely, absolutely not the “little shit grin” Gai so affectionately referred to it as.
The librarian huffed, counted the money, then did a few more pointed clickety-clacks before she reached down and handed Kakashi the majority of the stack back, sliding it precariously across the counter. He furrowed his brow and she patted the top of Taijutsu Tactics with a nod.
“I can’t accept these back without the fines,” she said. “Once you can pay the fines you can bring them back.”
“But…won’t that accrue more fines?”
The clerk at the door gave a soft snort. The librarian in front of him didn’t move an inch, and Kakashi very briefly thought she might’ve fallen asleep standing up, with the annoyed expression on her face, before she wordlessly nudged the pile closer to him.
Kakashi didn’t get to where he was without knowing when he was beat.
With another smile - this time a bit less polite and a bit more “little shit” - he took the books and nodded, turning to leave.
“Good evening ladies.”
“Lord Sixth.”
Sighing and hoisting the books in one arm, Kakashi headed home with a smile. Since donning the hat he’d felt unwittingly propelled into a world farther above the station he’d ever anticipated he’d be, but it was nice to know that even as the Rokudaime, there were still a few prevailing relics of bureaucracy that could make him feel like everyone else again.

Kakashi Week 2022 Day 2: Deception & Shapeshifting
@kakashiweek
This can be seen as a continuation from “Blood Legacy”
Link to AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/users/GoneGirl199999
Summary: Kakashi and Gai meet again after ten years
Are you... ?
Kakashi clearly heard the question, even though Gai didn't even open his mouth or make a sound. Life had separated and changed them in ways that neither of them imagined when they first met at the gates of the Academy, but they could still read each other with just a glance.
They stared at each other for what seemed like an eternity. Studying each other with their eyes and trying to find pieces of the teenagers they had once been. Kakashi was wondering the same as Gai. Is it possible that you are the same you were when I left?
None of them was. There wasn’t any signs of that skinny boy who could barely through a kunai properly. What he saw was a grown up man with manly and handsome features and a hard look, but still with that touch of compassion and love that had always characterized Maito Gai. He was also with three teenagers: a brat painfully similar to the boy Gai used to be, another from the Hyuga clan and a girl who was armed to the teeth. He should have known Gai would wanted to became a Jonin sensei. His old rival had too much love to give.
He wondered what his old rival saw in him. What was going through his mind? Was he wanting to lash out at him and finish him off for leaving the village? Did he wanted to hurt him as much as Kakashi had hurt him? Would he see him as a monster? Probably not, Gai wasn't that kind of person, but in those moments Kakashi would prefered him to do it. Everything to avoid that deception look in Gai. Kakashi had no doubt that Gai would fight him and kill him if that was what he had to do in order to keep his students safe. The same thing Kakashi would do if it was necessary to fulfill Akatsuki's goal. But he also knew neither of them had the heart to kill each other.
They charged into battle at the same time. Both of them had gotten stronger and stronger over the years, they could hardly tell which of them would win a fight. The last time they had fought together it had been in a rock-paper-scissors challenge. But for now, they probably wouldn't find out who was stronger, neither of them attacking with killing intent. Gai did not attempt to open the Inner Gates. Kakashi didn't even discover his sharingan. Even the brats realized that something was up, as they made no move to enter the battle.
Itachi had taught him the secrets of the sharingan, he taught him how to avoid being brought to the brink of death by the chakra drain. Even tho this, his chakra reserves were smaller compared to the other Akatsuki members, he knew the jutsu would end soon. He took a moment to look at the other man’s eyes, trying to tell Gai everything he couldn’t say out loud.
Gai held his eyes and Kakashi remembered how much he hated how Gai carried his heart in the palm of his hand. The deception and the pain those big brown eyes gave him, was too much for Kakashi.
I'm sorry I failed you, I'm sorry I disappointed everyone
I’m so sorry I couldn’t save you from your pain
It was when the shapeshifting ended and he wasn’t able to stare at Gai’s beautiful eyes, leaving in his place one of Sasori’s subordinates, when Kakashi understood that no matter what, they would be in love with each other for ever. They would always be Eternal Rivals until one died at the other’s hand. Because Kakashi wouldn’t let anyone but Gai to end up his life, that was only Gai’s right and the minumum Kakashi could do to pay off the damage he caused to Gai.
The copy nin opened his eyes and found himself above a rock on a cliff, sitting between Itachi and Kisame.
-We gained enough time- whispered the young Uchiha, while he closed his eyes again.
And holding back the tears, Kakashi concentrated again on the youn Kakzekage.
There was a mission to complete.

*Kakashi trying to sleep in bed*
Gai, “whispering” in the kitchen: Good job, Lee! You can never add too much pepper to eggs!
Sakura: Yes you can! That’s way too much; Kakashi-Sensei doesn’t even like spicy food!
Naruto: Oi; is there supposed to be so much smoke coming from the oven —?
Gai: Ah! My blueberry muffins! *pulls them out to a billowing cloud of smoke* Damn … where did I go wrong?
Neji: For starters you had the oven up to 500 degrees, when it was only supposed to be 350.
Ten-Ten: No; he went wrong when he decided to make Kakashi-Sensei breakfast in bed for his birthday instead of just taking him to a nice restaurant!
Gai: Kids, come on. I know you’re young but when you’re older you’ll appreciate the thoughtfulness of romantic gestures such as these!
Lee: I’m sure Kakashi-Sensei will appreciate the youthfulness of your actions, Gai-Sensei! And everything isn’t a loss; the bacon looks delicious! Great job, Sasuke!
Sakura: Sasuke-kun … are your eyes bleeding?
Sasuke, sharingan activated, super focused: You want this bacon to be perfect or not?!
Sai: Shouldn’t they be doing something else? My book says romantic couples engage in all kinds of things on one person’s birthday, like hugging and kissing, and se —
Naruto: Are you kidding, Sai?! Kakashi-Sensei is an old man, he doesn’t have the energy for all that, dattebayo!
Sakura: Right; he exhausts his chakra just standing up in the morning! There’s no way he can handle … that.
Kakashi, trying to decide whether he should “wake up” or sneak out the window:
