June, 3 (Morning) Devotion

“These were potters, and those that dwelt among plants and hedges: there they dwelt with the king for his work.”

1 Chronicles 4:23

Potters were not the very highest grade of workers, but “the king” needed potters, and therefore they were in royal service, although the material upon which they worked was nothing but clay. We, too, may be engaged in the most menial part of the Lord’s work, but it is a great privilege to do anything for “the king”; and therefore we will abide in our calling, hoping that, “although we have lien among the pots, yet shall we be as the wings of a dove covered with silver, and her feathers with yellow gold.” The text tells us of those who dwelt among plants and hedges, having rough, rustic, hedging and ditching work to do. They may have desired to live in the city, amid its life, society, and refinement, but they kept their appointed places, for they also were doing the king’s work. The place of our habitation is fixed, and we are not to remove from it out of whim and caprice, but seek to serve the Lord in it, by being a blessing to those among whom we reside. These potters and gardeners had royal company, for they dwelt “with the king” and although among hedges and plants, they dwelt with the king there. No lawful place, or gracious occupation, however mean, can debar us from communion with our divine Lord. In visiting hovels, swarming lodging-houses, workhouses, or jails, we may go with the king. In all works of faith we may count upon Jesus’ fellowship. It is when we are in his work that we may reckon upon his smile. Ye unknown workers who are occupied for your Lord amid the dirt and wretchedness of the lowest of the low, be of good cheer, for jewels have been found upon dunghills ere now, earthen pots have been filled with heavenly treasure, and ill weeds have been transformed into precious flowers. Dwell ye with the King for his work, and when he writes his chronicles your name shall be recorded.

Thinking a lot today about Zelda trapped in dragon form for 10,000 years.

Because it is 10,000 if we accept that the events talked about in the first game are the same that Zelda is experiencing. So she’s been up there, alone, with the Master Sword stuck in her head, for that whole time, waiting for Link to need it.

How awful must that be? They warned her she would lose herself but she clearly still remembers at least some of what happened given that the tears she cries are full of her memories.

And then I remembered that not only did she have to be alone for all that time but she has had to live through the Calamity again, just as powerless to stop it as the first time.

Watching all of your friends and family die a second time over while still knowing that Link will not be able to rest when it’s over and that the Zelda she watches below will only have a few years of peace before she is locked into the form of a dragon all while carrying the added guilt of watching her new mother and father figure die in the past.

And, all of this with the knowledge that she will never be free from this form she trapped herself in.

I’m down on my knees asking Nintendo to please let her return to her human form and let her rest at long last. She’s known nothing but suffering in her life and all I want for her is to settle down and run the school with Link in that little house in Hetano.

If I had a nickel for every time a complete stranger walked up to me to remark on my Kingdom Hearts shirt before going on a completely unprompted rant about how much they hate KH3 and how it ruined their life, I'd have 3 nickels for the past 6 months. Which is WAY TOO FUCKING MUCH, BRO LEAVE ME ALONE, CAN PEOPLE PLEASE BE NORMAL ABOUT A VIDEOGAME

The thing about critique of Christianity is that there is this prevasive idea that The Bible is fine, it's the corrupt leaders that make everything the religion touches a nightmare.

And sure, that book has some pretty good ideads in it, like that whole camel needle thing. But it's core premise is so fucked up!

Divested of all the flavor and elaborate lore the sotry is as follows: All humans are inherently born cursed by the original sin commited by the first of our kind, and to remedy this God sends his son to earth as a human and lets him die in torment so through his suffering hummanity is redeemed.

So, in the text of The Bible, by default, from before we are born, humans have something fundamentally wrong with them, that makes us unworthy of God's love, but He loves us anyway, because he is so great, and through Jesus' sacrifice we are allowed to join Him in Heaven. But Jesus is also God, due to the whole Holy Trinity thing.

So The Bible explicitly frames God's love for humans as a self-sacrifice on God's part. To The Almighty, loving humanity in spite of it's inherent foul nature is letting a part of Himself be tortured to death by our hand.

Is is just me or does that sound like "Abuser's How To 101" to anyone else? Literally, "you are inherently unlovable and I am sacrificing myself by caring for you anyuway". Especially if we see The Bible as authored by God Himself.

That not to mention the insistance that Jesus was eqally and fully as human as He is God, which very unsubtly implies that human suffering is also a condition for God's unconditional love. Adding "I'm hurting you becasue I love you" to the list.

I dunno, I think it's at least a little bit fucked up.

#the story of Job is so so bad too like it's such a horror #satan literally tricks God into torturing this inocent man for no reason and no benefit and Job still is a faithfull follower by the end #that man goes through hell on eath just for the sake of a dick measuring contest between the two that doesn't even settle anything #when he doesn't stop being faithful to God after the abuse do you think it's because he realizes that it is the only real non-choice he has #God is almighty and omnipresent his domain is inescapable. Wait wait okay so Mineru's ability is she can seperate her soul from her body and put that soul in something else. I believe in game she calls it her spirit but soul is like the same thing. Also spirit sounds more 'mystical' and soul might have religious context to it? Whatever. The stones amplify the holders already present power, not giving them 'new' ones, meaning she already had some power relating to spirit magic.

Two questions.

One, what was the extent of her power BEFORE she got the stone? In the scene she describes it as the stone gave her the ability to take her soul out of her body, not like she always had the ability to do that.

Two, if she can do that, why couldn't she separate Ganon's spirit from his body as a way to stall for time or temporarily stop his rampage?

It still doesn't make sense to me that Rarau, the light guy, was able to put Ganon in a stasis when Sonia's thing was time. Thou with Ganon killing Sonia and stealing her stone that couldn't be done. But it felt like, a kinda crappy way to go about that. The whole scene felt, not planned well. It felt like a first draft they went with instead of really dissecting the possibilities and making a more compelling and imo, more 'logical makes sense' of a story. If Sonia wasn't used as a sacrificial lamb for the story, SHE could have used her time powers to stall+stasis Ganon. She could have used her time powers to stall the malice infecting Link's arm, slowing it but never fully able to stop it due to her weakened power from keeping a lock on Ganon all these years and giving us the same reason to get the orbs to purify Link's arm.

This could also serve as a mirror back to Zelda's plight from BotW, stalling the big bad (she wasn't using time powers but still) but her power waning, unable to fully end it, just slow it down. Fighting the same foe, failing, and stalling, relying on the hero to finish business.

However, I feel like part of the reason Rarau was chosen to stop Ganon and give Link his arm was that he's Zonai, he's new, and the developers wanted to push that rather than the ancient Hylians. After all they did give us *too much of the Zonai and also still not enough. Even thou Rarau ends up playing such a small part in Link's encounters and is like, never seen again after the tutorial area then once more at the very anti climatic ending for Zelda.

Incase you couldn't tell, I have NOT finished the game, I probably never will and I've only spent 45 hours on it then never picked it up. 5 of those hours was spent on the tutorial sky island (I messed up so badly my first time that I *had to start over). I have also not seen many ending scenes so maybe there was a legit reason Mineru couldn't trap Ganon's soul but with the crappy writing of this game, I wouldn't be surprised if it was some dumb reason.
