I think that another thing about why I love the Guardians of Ga'Hoole movie so much (aside from how generally fucking awesome it is) is that it really hasn't aged visually?

This movie came out in 2010, and while I love a quite a few of the animated movies that came out around that time (How to Train Your Dragon, Tangled, Megamind, Shrek 4 and yes as much as it pains me I also used to be a huge Alpha and Omega fan), most of these movies if you compare them to CGI animation nowadays at least have aged a bit, some more than others (especially Tangled still holds up really well).

Then there's Ga'Hoole which looks like it could come out just any day nowadays and you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Visually this movie has just barely aged compared to other animated films. The animation, designs, textures, particle effects, etc. are just still SO good. Quite a feat especially if you compare its budget to some of the other films I mentioned above (it's less than half of some of these others).

Anyways this movie rocks and I refuse to shut up about it.

My boat floated closer and closer to the skirmish and I knew that I might be able to capture a special moment if I just kept shooting. I love the image for so many reasons. The eagle is protecting its most valuable secret weapon - its eyes - by sliding a thin membrane over its eye just as the jay flies by. The jay is executing a ninja move as it makes its escape. And I love the way the image illustrates the sheer contrast in size between the enormity of the eagle’s body and the small silhouette of the blue jay.

I’ll always be thankful that I was in the right spot at the right time."

When I was a kid my family pretended to get raptured so I would think I was left behind on earth while they all went to heaven.

I was like 8 years old and my sister and mom had gotten really into the Left Behind novels (bible fan fic about the rapture). In the books when the rapture happened the clothes that people were wearing when they got raptured were left behind in neatly folded piles.

One day when I was getting home from school my family decided that they would leave piles of neatly folded clothes around the house, and then hide in the basement.

The intended effect was that I would get home and see the clothes then, think that my family had been raptured and that I wasn’t good enough to get into heaven… or something?

The problem was that I had never read these books, and didn’t really think about the rapture very often. There was no reason that I would see some laundry on the floor and think “The rapture happened and I’ve been abandoned by God! I’ll never see my family again!! Oh nooo!!!!”

I just sat down and watched cartoons and eventually my family got bored and revealed that they were all hiding in the basement.

It’s a good thing I didn’t understand the joke, otherwise that shit would have been traumatic.
