This fight seemed to be going nowhere at all. Everyone was running low on energy, low on the will to keep fighting. And one by one, did her companions begin to fall. Beau. Yasha. Fjord. One by one, she could see them hit the ground, unconscious and slipping from reality. Even Caduceus seemed to be slowing down in his attacks as well. Her heart hammered heavily in her chest, panic rising in her lungs as she grasped her holy symbol.

“Artie, I know I ask a lot...but please...please don’t let me fail them....!” The young tiefling grips the symbol tighter, her hands outstretched as she digs deep into her reserves, as if she were giving her life to them, to bring them to their feet once again. 

“GET UP! GET UP! GET UP!” Her voice pierced the tense air of the battle. Not a moment later, does she feel the hands on her shoulders, the exhaustion hitting her almost immediately as the holy radiant energy bursts into existence, flowing out and towards her friends, her family, as she heals them all. Over and over again, does she dig deep into her reserves. Well, what is left of them. One by one, do her friends rouse from their injured stupors, renewed and practically never damaged.

She can hear the words in her ears: ‘You did good, Jester.’ She knew she couldn’t do this too often. It would drain her, Artie had warned her once. But this was desperate. The azure cleric grew dizzy moments later, and with consciousness waning, do her feet give from beneath her. She can see a blur of blue movement, only to be taken by red instead. 

Lashes flutter and heavy lids threaten to close at the sheer will and power that coursed the field, the sound of her friends battling in the background fall deaf to her ears. She can see her friend above her, and in that moment, does she realize he holds her close, breaking the fall she could have possibly had. 

“...Caleb...hi...are you hurt?” A soft smile finds her lips as she lets out the most tired giggle she possibly could, her hand raising softly to touch his cheek and cast a little bit more magic, curing any wounds he may possibly have sustained.

Imagine Satan running up to you in a panic, hiding something under his shirt. Then he just says "RUN AND DON'T STOP RUNNING UNTIL YOU KNOW IT'S SAFE AGAIN." also can we please talk about the way no one forces the Captain to come out? it's clear from the first episode that most if not all the ghosts know he's gay but they never once pressure him. not even at the therapy session. in a poorer show, his coming out would have been a series-long arc with characters trying to orchestrate scenarios to push him into it. not even Julian, the most morally bankrupt of them all, would consider for a moment crossing that line fully. he might toe it, but never more than he would with anything else. his coming out is treated so well, never as a requirement for his identity, but only as one of many possible steps he could take towards self-actualisation. this silly british comedy about a haunted house has gripped me by the throat.
