Digimon & Tamagotchi
Bandai V-Pet Crossovers Part 1 (Part 2)
Tumblr media
In 1996 Bandai and WiZ inc. released the original Tamagotchi. To their surprise, the toy proved to be popular among boys as well, despite it being mostly marketed for girls. And in 1997, as a more targeted approach to this demographic, Digital Monsters was born!
A huge virtual pet boom followed and not only did Bandai and Wiz release new versions of Tamagotchi and Digital Monsters, and try multiple v-pets with a variety of styles within the next couple of years, but other companies also tried to bandwagon on the success of these virtual pets!
(Such as Nintendo in 1998 with the Pocket Pikachu-)
While the Tamagotchi was shaped like an egg (jap. tamago) with a crack in its shell where the screen is, the Digital Monster was shaped like a brick cage with bust-open bars! It also featured the ability to connect and battle! Otherwise they both use the same three button layout and similar menu icons. On the Tamagotchi, the toilet icon is portrayed by a duck themed potty, which is also used as the look for the Portable Potty items in many Digimon games.
Tumblr media
Now with how closely these two franchises were developed, there's bound to be more that connects the two, right?
One such thing is Tamagotchimoji and Digimoji/DigiCode!
You can see that the two scripts are basically identical, just stylized differently. While Tamagotchimoji got used sparsely until they stopped using it in 2004 (But had a surprising comeback in one social media post on April 10, 2023?!), Digimoji has been used, and still is being used everywhere in the Digimon franchise! There is also a separate set of characters for the Latin Alphabet.
Tumblr media
[Tamagotchimoji on the left, Digimoji on the right, respective Hiragana above the character]
Just like we know it from the Digimon Franchise, the Tamagotchi also grow through evolutionary stages along a branching path, depending on how well you take care of them! The original line of Tamagotchi as well as Digimon owe their designs to Kenji Watanabe! Generally all Tamagotchi's names end in "-tchi" or "-chi", similar to how Digimon names end in "-mon".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In these evolution charts, the Tamagotchi and Digimon are arranged by how well they've been taken care of / how good they are, with the top line being the best, and the bottom being the worst.
But that Tamagotchi chart is actually just the international version, which had "Bill" (aka Gaijintchi/Ketotchi) as secret character past the adult stage. Instead the Japanese version featured "Oyajitchi" (jap. oyaji means "old man").
Tumblr media
But wait, doesn't that face look familiar...?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
According to the Digimon Reference Book, Nanimon's true identity is unknown and it in fact came from another dimension, where it was known under the title OYAJI. In order to survive in the new environment of the Digital World, Nanimon had to go through a lot of training and battling.
Nanimon's name is also a play on its bizarre nature. In Japanese, "nanimon" is a casual abbreviation of "nanimono" which means "what (thing)". So, with intonation indicating a question, "nanimonda" can mean both "What are you?" or "I am Nanimon".
This joke is even included directly in Digimon World when the player encounters Nanimon.
Tumblr media
「ん?なにもんだ?!」 "N? Nanimon da?!" “Huh? What are you?!” 「ナニモンだァ!」 "Nanimon da!" “I’m Nanimon!”
Nanimon's nature as an alien to this World is also reflected in his trait in the Card Game being "Invader".
Tumblr media
Nanimon BT6-058 by Kenji Watanabe from BT-06 Booster Double Diamond
So yeah, Nanimon is supposed to be Oyajitchi who came from the Tamagotchi World to the Digital World.
Stay tuned for next friday when we talk about another World connected to the Digital World!
Special thanks to: tamagotchi wiki, gotchi-garden and tamatalk for being great resources!

I still dont get how a well known fake leaker manages to get the real leaks and posts them translated in french (his language) even before we got the jap. raw scans while you cant find them on any japanese side. Maybe only parts of it are real while others arent, because some of these pictures (like the one of izuku missing his arms) dont look like horis art style. More then anything I just hope the translation was fake THEN I could forgive what happens in this chapter.

🤔I'll pair you with...
Keegan P. Russ ☠
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think Keegan would be your match
You two would be different sides of the same coin
More times than not Keegan is quiet
However, if you try to start a conversation first he will talk
And if you keep talking, finding things to talk about, he'll never want to stop
I feel like you two would become best friends
And then one night, you had a dream about him
It was innocent, though
Just hanging out like normal
But in the dream, you two were soooo close
Holding hands
You ignored it until you dreamed of Keegan kissing you
You had developed a crush on him but didn't want to ruin what you both had
Keegan was observant
He noticed how you were acting
"Hey, what's wrong?"
"...nothing"
"You don't need to lie. I know something's bothering you."
"Nothings bothering me, I'm just... thinking"
"About what?"
Should you tell him?
Would you risk telling him how you felt for him?
You thought about the times when you fell asleep beside him watching a movie, how he comforted you with hugs when you've had a bad day
He's been there by your side
He was a good friend, a best friend
And you really wanted to be more than that
You couldn't stop thinking and daydreaming about him
It was driving you crazy
"I... uhm, it's just..."
You was getting tongue twisted
You tried again
"I like you, a lot, Keegan."
You gave a pause
"And I understand if you don't feel the same. I just didn't want to regret not saying anything."
You didn't look at him as you said all of this
After a short moment of silence you looked over to Keegan
A smile formed on his lips
"Took you long enough"
You were confused
"Huh?"
He told you that one of the Ghosts noticed the way you looked at him, blushing whenever he would look your way
"If you waited any longer, I was going to tell you myself"
Needless to say you two are now dating

Hey writer, take the write what you want to read further. Use it in original works too, you will feel so free.
Also, like read what you want to write and read a lot of it. My biggest struggle with both writing and reading has always been that I just really don't like the tropes that are used by native English romance writers. Now I love a good trashy romance, but English romance isn't even good. It's just the writing equivalent of a daytime soap. Like English publishing just feels like they don't treat romance very seriously since it's main demographic is women or queer folks. (Which I feel is why those are the groups who mainly flock to fanfic).
Korean and Japanese light novels and comics have been an absolute boon for me. (Chinese ones still come off as a bit too daytime soap for my personal enjoyment).
As a kid I went from tearing through anything I could get my hands on to reading as much fic I could as a teen to practically not reading at all for a good portion of 4-5 years because nothing could really grab me. All the romance for adults either had no plot or acted like sex was practically nonexistent and sometimes both. And if you like that, it's great but, it started to make me hate reading. Then I stumbled across the way that demographics work in japan and got curious enough to try again but with manga to see if I could get interested in what writers had to offer again. I was blown away honestly, I started tearing through comics (both Japanese and Korean) so quickly I was finishing and catching up with comics that had sometimes over 200 chapters in days. I started running out of things (because I have very specific taste but still my comic library is 3000+) so I started looking into light novels (god bless novelupdates)
A big part of my personal draw towards Japanese and Korean publishing is probably that even shoujo/teen girl demographics don't outright ignore sex, it's talked about and even happens in comics ment for teen girls. Like very fee that I've read ignore it. Also just in general the plots don't frustrate me as much much of English pub thrives off of avoidable misunderstandings that frankly give me second hand embarrassment (most English romance lit give me second hand embarrassment anyway cause the characters just suck but I digress) where as Japanese and Korean pub feels more like understandable misunderstandings? (English lit being mainly jealous/assumptions/cheating vs jap/Korean lit being hearing things out of context/rivals making misunderstandings/mistaken\double identies) summing up many English romances thrive of stupidity keeping the leads apart where as many jap/kor romances keep them apart via external forces. But I tangented oops.
Point being, it has finally given me direction in my own writing. I want to write in a way that emulates Japanese and Korean writing styles, I want to use the tropes that they more commonly use and a similar basic outline and story progression.
I can write and read again and it gives me genuine joy that I thought I had lost, that fanfiction simply can't fill for me anymore (the fandoms I'm in are starting to slow down due to age and most of the things that have active fandoms I'm just not interested in the source materials) anyway main point being sometimes you just need to branch out and look at less common places. Reading outside of English works finally ended my writers block and has given me a few small fandoms to interact with and while most of what I read has no English fandom I have such a treasure trove of orginal content that I very rarely need fic.
Thanks for letting me use the ask box as a little stage. I think you're wonderful for allowing your blog to be that kind of space!

Pairings: David Webster x f!reader
Requested: By another lovely anon
Warnings: Uhh.. Mentions of Explosives, kissing? I think that's it.
Summary: When the war ended, you were hundreds of miles away, with no hope of finding each other after. Yet, here he is.
A/n: as much of my work, I don't like this one very much, and I feel like my writing style switched randomly. I hope you like it Anon 🥺

Like many, You remember where you were the day the war came to an end. At the time, you remember you had been bandaging up a nasty leg wound and applying a thick layer of gauze and a white bandage over it. It was then the news bearer came in, shouting and out of breath: “The war’s over! The japs surrendered!” before they were off to the next tent.
The celebration had been large, larger than any celebration you’d ever seen. There was drinking, lots of it, and someone had managed to get their hands on fireworks (or explosives, for you had only heard the story rather than witnessed it,) and had lit late in the evening.
It was even crazier when you arrived by boat to San Francisco, there were millions of people crowding the docks, welcoming the soldiers home. You remember setting your feet down on American soil again, you hadn’t been home in nearly 3 years, but it was such an odd yet wonderful feeling. To be home.
But of course, when the war ended, another relationship you'd never thought of how it'd work after the war, ended too.
˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚*·̩̩̥͙·̩̩̥͙**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚*·̩̩̥͙·̩̩̥͙**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚*·̩̩̥͙
As of right now you were cleaning your house– could you believe it? You bought your own house after the war!– when suddenly, the doorbell rang.
Which was odd, because you weren't expecting any visitors. Although, it could just be the postman? Or something like that.
When you pulled open the door, you were met with a dashing but very familiar face. His mouth was open, as if he was going to speak, but nothing ever came. He stood there like a fool with no words to explain why or how. Something he'd later chastise himself for when he remembered the embarrassing incident.
Moments passed when you both just stared. One, too lovestruck to talk and the other? Too scared to speak in fear her words would make the man she never thought she'd see again disappear.
David finally snapped out of his reverie, "Hello," he spoke gently. Almost like he was talking to a wounded animal, afraid it might flee.
"Hi."
Did you not recognize him?
Davis rid himself of the thought, of course you remembered him, right?
With a shaky hand, he extended the bouquet towards you, "These are for you."
A smile stretched onto your face as you took the flowers delicately and retreated back into the house, leaving the door open while saying from the kitchen: "Come, sit down."
David removed his shoes and shut the door behind him when he entered. He followed you to the kitchen, watching as you filled a clear vase with water and clipped the stems off the flowers.
Webster observed from the doorway in silence, taking note of the way you practically danced across the kitchen, finally placing the vase on an open counter and turning around to face him, "Would you like a drink? I've got tea, coffee, or some water."
"I'll have tea, please." He responds absently. You don't realize it, of course, but his mind is trying to make a decision. He's still not sure if you remember who he was, but, Oh– he sure hopes you do. He can barely contain himself when he blurts, "Do you remember?"
Turning to look at him again, a quizzical look crosses your face before it returns back to a warm grin that makes his heart 'ba-bump' wildly in his chest. "How could I forget?"
David feels a smile pulling at his lips and a soft sigh of relief eludes him and he steps closer, nearly cornering you against the counter, “I had to come find you,” he says, “I just couldn’t live my life knowing we had something and never got the chance to act on it.”
“I’m glad you did,” Your voice is barely above a whisper when his hand reaches up to cup your cheek.
His eyes dart down to your lips. Subconsciously, his tongue darts out to wet his own lips as his eyes draw back to yours, “Can I kiss you?”
In a hushed tone, you answer: "Please."
Instantly, David closes the gap between your lips in a fiery kiss. His lips were molded against your own, passion flowing between you two.
The kiss was only broken off when he pulled away for a gasp of air, his forehead resting against yours, "I love you."
"I love you more," you reply
Nothing could describe how forever grateful you'd be that David did find you. In all honesty, you had thought there was never a chance of finding him again after the war ended. But how he did find you was a story for another time, one that would be discussed at a later date because right now all you wanted to do was hold and love David for he had found you. A reunion believed impossible.

Why should you read Japanese literature? And from there can learn from it.
"After all, what can we ever gain in forever looking back in time and blaming ourselves if our lives have not turned out quite as we might have wished?"
This a quote from Kazuo Ishiguro's work, 'The Remains of the Day' captures the repercussions of ideas in which a man built his life with.
Japanese literature has been on the rise in recent years with the existence youth favourite writer, Haruki Murakami, along with the sudden viral surge of Nobel Prize in Literature 2017 winner, Kazuo Ishiguro. Thus, the question “Why does the world, especially the new generation should read the Japanese literatures pop up?” alongside the rise of the authors.
In the works of Japanese authors, I find this sense of warmth within them, even when the plots are dark and filled with thrillers. The quote above is amongst one of the many examples of the sense of warmth mentioned, where in the book Ishiguro explored the life of Stevens, a long-serving butler of Darlington Hall. He embarked on a leisurely holiday that will take him deep into the countryside, at which made him reflect on his own past. In the face of evolving Britain, Stevens question whether his dignity and properness have come at a greater cost to himself. In the book it felt like Ishiguro brings about a hidden emotion within a reader that has always been connecting him or herself with the reality of the world that they more often tend to forget in the midst of this fast-paced and busy world.
The Nobel Prize organisation described Ishiguro as a writer “who, in novels of great emotional force, has uncovered the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world.”, when he won the Nobel Prize in Literature 2017. For me, reading the book brought me to place, somewhere far away, by the seaside or under the night sky, where I sat down and got caught in the moment reflecting myself as a person and the choices I made. In the end, we as humans, are always connected to the choices we made, be it either it’s about how we live our lives or things that we want.
Now we move on to the most well-known Japanese author, Haruki Murakami. Since the day I have been involved in reading, I had encountered both, people who like and don’t like Murakami as a writer. Most of the latter party had affiliated their dislike in regard to couple of the prominent characteristics of Murakami’s work, which is sense of darkness and eerie that are attached to bits and pieces of his writings. But what if I say, with that darkness, there are much more important stuffs that are relevant to us humans. Quoting Murakami’s ‘Kafka on the Shore’,
“Sometimes fate is like a small sandstorm that keeps changing direction. You change direction, but the sandstorm chases you. You turn again, but the storm adjusts. Over and over, you play this out, like some ominous dance with death just before dawn. Why? Because this something isn’t something that has nothing to do with you. This storm is you, something inside you. So, all you can do is give in to it, step right inside the storm, closing your eyes and plugging up your ears so the sand doesn’t get in, and walk through it step by step.”
Murakami brings reader to a realm where they bend their imagination around the whimsical characters and their sandstorms plotted by the author himself. Murakami redirects reality by intertwining the existence of his respective novel protagonist with a place that transcend logics and reasons. This concept of writing, which people call ‘Magical Realism’, makes his protagonist not able to understand what’s happening to them as things are often not what they seem to be. This style writing is what would intrigue readers because they are recognizable if not always relatable to us as humans living our lives, where in Norwegian Wood, Murakami brings about the sense of death, loss and grieve, while in Kafka on the Shore, it surrounds the journey of self-discovery in which each of us would at the very least once go through in our life.
All the above in Japanese literature, be it concepts or style of writings, are being brought to the readers often if not always, in metaphorical ways which readers would always find themselves baffled every time they thought they figured out what is happening in the world of the respective books they are reading. Japanese authors more often succeed in bleeding fiction into reality. All those fictions are written in such ways that their words are articulated so that supernatural possibilities, individual thoughts, and imagination then seems to actually be reality of the world. Even when those imaginations are traumatic, dark and eerie, they made us, as humans, acknowledge those fictions aren’t only fictions but also part of the world’s reality.
And before I hit the sack with this post, let me close this posting with heart-rendering quote by Toshikazu Kawaguchi in his own 'Before the Coffee gets cold', where he explores 'the meaning of time' in his writings, so that you could also be left in awe, wonder and curiousness in my attempt to lure you into reading Japanese literature:
“There is no greater suffering than that of a parent who is unable to save their own child who wants to die.”

BACKSTORY. Losing their family to a demon in their childhood, Shiori spent some time in the entertainment district, having been left there by their uncle – much to the dismay of their cousin, Rai – as he claimed he had too many mouths to feed already. Taken in by a house, they kept away from the customers generally, unless they were bringing one up to see someone else, though they were taught some of the traditional skills that the girls were taught as well. However, they were not in the house for too long before the owner of a Wisteria House of the Demon Slayer corp bought out their debt.
They were far happier living within the Wisteria House and helping demon slayers, even more so once they were taken in by Rengoku Ruka, wife of the Flame Pillar, Rengoku Shinjurou. They worked for the Rengoku family as a medical aid to Ruka, but in truth they were treated so close to family that one who was unfamiliar with the family would hardly think otherwise. It was only after Ruka’s death that Shiori went on to see training in the art of slaying demons from the former Wind Hashira, Takemoto Noriko.
Joining the demon slayer ranks, they stayed until an unfortunate turn in a mission against a lower moon resulted in a severe internal injury that led to their retirement as a slayer. However, they did not leave the corps in any official manner as they instead went back to their former Wisteria House to take time in determining what it was they wished to do. Dedicating themself to the growth and cultivation of the wisteria blossoms surrounding the shrine, as well as forming charms and perfumes made of the wisteria for those with marechi blood to ward demons, they continued to practice their breathing forms, but now with metal fans and hairpins sharp as knives with wisteria poison compartments inside.
