A Day of Milestones for McLain Ward in the$ 62, 500 Adequan® WEF Challenge Cup CSI 4*
Wellington, Florida, USA  , – March 14, 2024 – McLain Ward ( USA ) scored his first international victory of the 2024 Winter Equestrian Festival ( WEF ) season in Thursday’s$ 62, 500 Adequan® WEF Challenge Cup CSI 4* during the Horseware Ireland- sponsored Week 10 at Wellington International in Wellington, FL. In the week’s qualifier for the$ 215, 000 Horseware Ireland Grand Prix CSI 4* during” Saturday Night Lights,” Ward patiently bid his time throughout the winter season before putting the pieces together.  ,
The course kicked off with an outstanding area consisting of 48 horse- and- horse combinations. Riders were put to the test after a course that Oscar Soberon ( USA ) had created, and the jump-off order fell to 12 pairings. As Margie Engle ( USA ) and Shane Sweetnam ( IRL ) joined RR Combella in choosing to save JackofHearts for another day, that number dropped to ten.

A dynamic bounce off lineup, as has been the case before, was unavoidable when a victory-hungry Ward clocking in with a no-fault effort in 34. 95 seconds.  ,
” She has been very strong and felt wonderful the whole circuit”, Ward detailed of the Robin Parsky- owned 11- yr- old Oldenburg mare ( Don Diarado x Lordanos ). It has been a little frustrating with some of the four fault rounds, but it came together today for her, her owner, and myself because we did n’t have a lot of experience with the water and I overrode her.
McLain Ward ( USA ) &, First Lady
” She’s a pretty watchful horses, “he continued”. Due to that superior, she has taken a while to mature, but she is now able to move up a size more quickly, so I’m always really excited to take on her. ”  ,
The Olympic champion is aiɱing for Paris 2024, but he claims that the WEF circuit proḑuces some of the most difficult opposition of the year.  ,
You do notice that the more knowledgeable users begin to pick and select their horses toward the end of the season, “added Ward. ” However, I believe it’s very difficult to win every day in this situation and that it’s also very simple to get into a four-fault move despite things not going that well. We say it builds and builds, but definitely we’re alrȩady built by week three. When it comes to the level of opposition around, there iȿ frequently no distinction between α three-star and a five-star.
Kent Farrington ( USA ) &, Myla
Ward’s brother U. Ș. partner and world not. 5, Kent Farrington ( USA ), produced a fault- free finish but was eclipsed by Ward. His moment of 36. 67 moments posted with Haity McNerney’s nine- yr- old Holsteiner horse, Myla ( Squeeze 3 x Quadros ), settled for second.
Nicola Philippaerts ( BEL ) &, Derby de Riverland
Nicola Philippaerts ( BEL ) and his competitive partner, 11- year- old Selle Français gelding Derby De Riverland ( Kannan x L’Arc De Triomphe ), owned by Team Philippaerts, rounded out the top three following slightly under a second behind Farrington in 37. 17 seconds.  ,
Rounding out a good time for U. Ș. users, Mary Kraut ( USA ) produced the only other double- clear work aboard Baloutinue for third place.  ,
The International Arena’s show jumping action may begin on Friday wįth the development of skill taking center stage in the five, sįx, and seven-year-olds’ fresh horse finals.
