Deuce sat down on the swing with a heavy sigh. He absently looked around at the newly renovated playground as he rocked back and forth slightly. The paint job on the walls and playground equipment did well to cover all the graffiti that blemished them. Much, if not, all of that "artwork" was done by him and his gang of delinquents. He also noticed that most of the damaged equipment was replaced. The rest of them had been recently removed. There was an ache in his chest as he took in the scene. He remembered how much he loved to come to this park with his mother as a child. All the memories of him happily playing through the park were tainted by his actions and the lens he viewed them from.

It looked like there was going to be a downpour soon, but there was too much on Deuce's mind to care at the moment. And it didn't help that he felt like there was a lead weight attached to his waist.

Just today he had terrorized some poor kid for his money along with his cronies, but for some reason, the feeling of glee had fully evaded him. He felt almost... sorry for them. The look of terror on their face had awoken... something within him. Not that he'd ever voice it to his buddies. He knew well that if he did, they'd either agree and go for bigger prey, or accuse him of "being a wuss," or something along those lines. He didn't care to deal with either outcome. So instead he had feigned that sense of glee. He'd daresay he overdid it when he picked a fight with a thug who'd crossed him later that day. He emerged victorious, but he did end up with a few bruises and a bloodied nose. Despite subconsciously knowing that the encounter was pointless, he kept up with his mirthful facade until he and his cronies had parted ways.

His mood had already been damp by time he arrived home, but what he saw in the dining room made his heart sink to his feet. There his mother sat at the table, shoulders slumped and with one hand holding up her forehead as if she had a headache. The other hand pressed he phone against her ear. He took a closer look at her and noticed she was weeping.

"I don't know where I went wrong, mom," She paused to wipe the tears from her eyes. "He used to be such a sweetheart..."

Mom? Deuce almost wanted to say. It didn't look like she noticed him coming inside. He stayed quiet to listen in on the conversation.

"What am I doing to do?..."

His grandmother's silence on the other side of the line told him everything. He couldn't face her now. Not like this, anyway, so he tiptoed back outside for some air.

Now here he was, sitting on the swing, staring morosely into the distance. The sight of his mother crying to his grandmother was something that would haunt him for a long time. He knew subconsciously for a while that he couldn't continue down this path of delinquency, and the series of events that happened today cemented that so firmly. With a deep breath, he vowed to leave behind that path. To himself. To his mother. To anyone who watched him grow up. Never again will he upset the ones he loves.

...

Drip.

Drip.

Drip.

"Better get home before I catch a cold," Deuce said to himself. "Mom's gonna worry."

The Unpaid Therapists' Journals: Parvana

November 1

               I don’t know how or why this happened. I finally finished all my midterms and all that was on my mind was taking a nap and then playing some games with my little sister, Saima. I made it to my dorm room and immediately crashed onto my bed, without even taking my shoes or glasses off. I woke up to an unfamiliar voice, saying “Welcome, Parvana, to the Devildom.”

               I pried my eyes open, and I am immediately greeted by a smiling red-haired, tan-skinned man clad in red in front of me.

               “Eh… What…” was the most intelligent thing I could say at the moment.

               “Oh, my apologies. It’s only natural that you’d feel a bit disoriented, as you’ve just arrived.”

               I rubbed my eyes under my glasses and glanced around. I found myself in some sort of council room with several men looking down at me. Now that my brain has caught up with me, I came to realize that I never told the red-haired man my name. How did he know? I immediately asked him what was going on, how he knew my name, and why I was here. He told me to calm down a bit before he caught me up to speed. His name was Diavolo, the ruler of all demons and the future King of the Devildom. He told me I was in the assembly hall of the Royal Academy of Diavolo. At this point, a second man, or rather, demon, took over to explain. His name was Lucifer.

               Lucifer? As in, the Demon of Pride? This image wasn’t quite what I had in mind when I heard that name. I didn’t really have the time to ponder this as he explained that I was here as an exchange student from the human world. Apparently, this year-long exchange program is supposed to strengthen the ties between the Celestial Realm, the Human World, and the Devildom. Two candidates from the Celestial Realm and the Human World were chosen to participate in this program, and I was the second human candidate.

               That’s odd. I never signed up for this. I told them as much, but my name was put in the list of candidates. So, I was basically kidnapped with extra steps? I suppressed the urge to vomit. Literally how did my name get onto this list? And why was I chosen? It was at this point that Lucifer handed me a DDD and told me to call his brother, Mammon. Lucifer told me that he was supposed to take care of me during my stay here in the Devildom. I told Mammon this, and he didn’t seem so happy about it. ReAL rELiAbLE gUY. I remember thinking at the time: I’m totally going to die, aren’t I? And I haven’t even turned eighteen yet.

               Before I could sort out my thoughts, the rest of the men here introduced themselves: Asmodeus, the Avatar of Lust; Satan, the Avatar of Wrath; and Beelzebub, the Avatar of Gluttony. Asmodeus offered to demonstrate his power on me, but I passed. Not long after I got acquainted with the five men, a sixth, white-haired, tan-skinned man came through the door. That must be Mammon. He only made eye contact with me and threatened to rob me. Lucifer thankfully intervened. Hospitality 10/10.

               Before I was escorted to the House of Lamentation, I asked if the DDD can make calls to human world numbers. I wanted to call either my parents or my sister to let them know where I am and that I was safe. I was ecstatic to know that it could, so I called Ammu’s number. I told her what happened and naturally she was LIVID.

“WHY ARE YOU IN THIS PLACE? WHY DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS PROGRAM? AND WHY DID YOU NOT TELL ME ABOUT SIGNING UP FOR THIS?” She yelled.

“I didn’t sign up for this, though. I don’t know how I even got here,” I said.

I did not know what else to tell her. I heard Abbu and Saima in the background, also equally as concerned.

“What did she say? The Devildom?? PARVANA, WHY ARE YOU THERE??”

“What the actual HECK? DID APU JUST GET KIDNAPPED??”

As I could not assure my family that I would be okay (I don’t even know if I would be), Lucifer stepped in. I don’t think they were all that sure though.

               After that Mammon escorted me to the House of Lamentation, all the while bitching. I didn’t really catch all of it, as I was still processing what was going on. Once I set foot into the house, I was greeted by a purple haired man shouting at Mammon to pay him back. Despite me not wanting any part of their little squabble, Mammon used me as a distraction and just dipped. I feel less and less safe here, and it hasn’t even been an hour. But then again, I was basically flung into hell(?) without warning, so what was I expecting.

               The purple-haired man, Leviathan, dragged me to his room. Or was this a section in an aquarium? The farthest wall had a fish tank full of colourful fish that almost took up its entire space. I noticed there were a lot of posters of anime I had never seen before plastered over his walls. There were also figurines of characters I was unfamiliar with adorning his shelves. How does a person have this much free time? I looked around at his shelves and noticed a set of thick books lining them. Turns out it was his favourite book series, and he ranted to me about it.

               After that long winded rant, I asked to know why I was there to begin with. It turns out he wants me to forge a pact with Mammon to make him pay the money he owes. “I missed the part where that’s my problem” is what I told him. But he told me that by having a pact with Mammon basically means he’s pretty much at my mercy. I mean, if it means I can make him do his job properly, then this looks like a win in my books, so in light of that, I agreed to help. It turns out that Leviathan has a plan to lure his brother into making a pact. I might just be able to actually sleep tonight.

hi! i've sent this to a couple other of my favorite COD writers, but it's a psycho-analysis thing on guy that i wanted to share as im curious about other's thoughts. i should mention that i am a psych student with a special interest in male psychological trauma and "toxic masculinity" (put in quotes because idk the scientific term for it Imao)

warnings for slight spoilers, i don't believe there's much of anything too triggering, just some mention of sexism in avari, and parental/generational trauma, but nothing too detailed.

(and j*sper jumpscare at the end but it's just slander)

this also isn’t at all and excuse for abuse or anything of the sort, and that’s not what i specialize in either; it’s more like a deeper analysis of internalized sexism, now if guy did anything on the level of j*sper or got physical or anything, i would not be writing this. 

so, guy starts off very controlling (literally using mind control), but when you play his route + events (specifically the ones where he goes to avari) a much deeper story unfolds.

it is my understanding that avari has very different thoughts on women, and we even see guy tell MC that his father told him all women are cruel and only want power. i believe guy has been told all his life negative things about women, and that all he has seen was his father marry for power after his mother passed. we also see in a route that guy was much more open when his mom was alive, but closed his heart to everyone when she was killed. it is also seen that guy assumed his mother was murdered by other women. so, Guy has been told all his life these things about women, ever since he was a child, and never had the chance to see any differently as he never opened up to another woman until MC.

now this is where the beauty comes in. after a while, guy begins to truly love MC for herself and not just her power, and even tells her what he was told about women and says she changed that. guy was able to swallow his ego and be emotionally open to MC and begin to see her as an individual and not just a vessel for power. guy defends her to her father and tells him off saying that he truly loves her and no other, and it is not just because of her power, and that she will make a fine queen. we see him praise her throughout his stories and events, and through his thoughts we see he is truly a changed man who has changed his outlook on women through his love for MC.

although he is not yet open to fully sharing his thoughts quite yet, we see that he is actively working on himself for MC.

we also see a boyish side come out of him during these emotional moments, that i believe to be trauma regression and suppressed feelings that he has had to endure due to the excessively violent and aggressive nature of avari. i truly think guy's initial act towards MC is due to trauma and abuse he suffered in avari, and he only begun realizing he was lied to and was wrong about women through his relationship with MC. guy is actually my favorite character because of this, and i think it's truly a beautifully complex story that the creators made.

also, i love how his toxic masculinity was turned around and how it tells the story that growing up in such a toxic environment can truly damage a man.

Real talk, tho. I am not a psychology major (psychology is more of a special interest of mine, so take what I say with a grain of salt. Or a kilogram. idk), but I can say that all of your points are valid. Growing up in a toxic environment will mess someone up, especially as a child. Bro basically grew up indoctrinated by the Saligian version of Andrew Tate's pHILosOPhY (for lack of a better term) and seeing that view on women unfold his eyes over and over again probably gave him a lot of trust issues too.

I do kind of appreciate that, despite him being very rough around the edges, his character was still ultimately salvageable. I just kind of wish we had the chance to explore his backstory more in his own consort path tho, cuz I feel that bit was a bit rushed. Or maybe it wasn't and I'm remembering wrong? Feel free to correct me on this. It's been a hot minute since I read his consort path

I still don't really like Guy, at least not as a consort, but I do appreciate his character growth, and you really hit the nail on the head

Visions of the Past; Malleus Draconia

Time heals all wounds. But Malleus knew that wasn’t true. Yes, time may heal physical wounds, although not always perfectly, but it no longer weeps or festers. Whereas emotional wounds, such as trauma, grief, and anger do not fade or heal in the same manner as a cut would.

Malleus was standing outside the entrance of Ramshackle, once his nightly walking grounds turned to the home of the first person that befriended him for him. The first person who didn’t know or care, even after finding out about his identity, that he was the Malleus Draconia. A magicless human who treated him as they did with others, but with a tad bit more ease, humour, and kindness since they were friends.

Were friends.

His heart knew though that you weren’t just friends. He had felt this emotion before to some extent with his passion for gargoyles, but they paled in comparison to you.

Your brightness. Your laugh. Your little mannerisms that most wouldn’t pay attention to, but he did. 

“Do you think we’ll still be friends when we’re older,” you mused while on one of your nightly walks with Malleus. Malleus furrowed his brow and looked at you quizzically, “Why wouldn’t we be? I have no intention of not being in your life.” You had stopped moving forward and Malleus came to a stop beside you. “Well, I don’t know. You’re a prince, future king, and you might get swapped in royal business and duties…” You pursed your lips, an unpleasant taste in your mouth. “And isn’t that more important?”  “Do you not like spending time with me?” Malleus’ voice was more sharp, on edge. “NO!” You shouted, the word echoing a bit in the quiet night. “I like spending time with you. I love it!” Malleus looked at you with confusion, and if he were looking at anyone else the way he had been in the past minute, they would have been grovelling, asking for forgiveness. But not you.  “Then why did you bring it up in the first place? Should there not be time, I will simply make it,” he said quietly. A small smile and chuckle replaced the irritated look of moments prior, “I will even make it ‘royal business’ as you put it.” You cough-laughed at his statement, but you only laughed harder when you looked at him to see a baffled expression.  Malleus chuckled lightly, joining your amusement, even though he didn’t understand what was so funny that had you tearing up. You let out a long sigh, recollecting yourself. “Well, I’ll be there then, promise.”

And you had held that promise. Despite both of your hectic lives, you both met at least twice a month. If neither of you had the time? Well, Malleus would just show up outside your place, like old times, and you would both go about the property. Sometimes talking away, and other times in silence, just happy to be next to each other again.

Malleus knew he liked you, loved you even — the way he felt more like himself when he was around you, and a tinge of jealousy made that distinction clear — and he was planning on asking you if you felt the same.

But he didn’t have the chance.

He would never have the chance.

He knew that he wouldn’t have many years with you, but he had planned that it was old age that took you away from him.

Ramshackle had not changed, but Malleus could still smell the scent of soot, even after all of these years. The foyer stopped, and Malleus looked into the gloom of the burnt ruins.

“ … do you remember our promise?”

He had been coming here, once a fortnight, asking the same question and hoping for an answer. Every time all he ever received was the sound of rotting wood and the scampering of mice.

He took in a breath and was ready to leave, to go back to his duties, but he stopped.

“Why wouldn’t I?”

He couldn’t see you, but you were here. And that was all that mattered to Malleus. That although you may not physically be here anymore, he had not lost you.

Time may heal all wounds, but Malleus didn’t want this wound to heal. He didn’t want to lose you, not again.

Thank you for motivating me to start writing fic, to start writing my novel again, to develop my ocs some more. Before I joined I was on a 4-5 month slump with no writing at all due to a lack of motivation.

There was some competition with barbatos but finally I decided on Simeon! Only a gentle yet funny person could suit Parvana.

Simeon asked Parvana out after inviting her to dinner. Well it was a pic nic to be precise and he invited her to admire the amazing sunset and observe the sky together. He (and Luke pitched in with the deserts) slaved away the whole day to prepare a wide assortissement of foods. He wanted the date to be perfect after all, that’s why everything was made to your taste and Solomon was banned from the house. During the date, you two engaged in little talks until sunset came and he confessed. The confession was long as he listed every reason why he loved you but it was very nice. After that, you two spent the night stargazing while he narrated every constellation related folklore he knew. He was glowing when he went back to his house. Solomon and Luke pestered him for details and he eventually caved lol.

Simeon is a very attentive and caring lover. He notices your struggles and helps you confront them in a more healthy way. He tries to make your life less stressful by introducing you to new relaxation methods and always makes it a point to tell you how proud he is and how much he loves you. He is also hardworking but always finds time to have fun and let loose. He knows you mean well and care more than you show, he doesn’t judge a book by its cover, that’s why he always has your back. He wants to be someone you can depend on and vent to. He encourages you to speak up more about your true feelings so you can also be happier with yourself. Hey at least you recognize you’re awesome.

You’re a romantic and he’s also a romantic. He likes surprising you with poems and your favorite foods. He takes care of the chores too (well you split but he doesn’t mind doing the majority most of the time). He’s a writer, he knows how to make you swoon. He likes giving you flowers and pressed flowers. And he chooses them meticulously to convey his feelings. I believe that this angel surprises you from time to time and on special occasions with breakfast in bed. You also do the same for him and it becomes a fun competition. He likes teasing you and cuddling with you. He gives you lots of forehead kisses and lovey dovey nicknames like My one and only. Simeon also asks Barbatos for tea advices to surprise you each month.

There is quite a large library in your house. It even has a space for him to write and for you to draw. Each of you have a type of office desk there for your work/studies. You also have a gaming/cinema spot in another room but he’s not very good with technology…be patient with him lol. The two of you have your best moments in the kitchens because you cook together often. You both share recipes and he likes to dance to your music. Yes it means he drags you along. While waiting for that cake/food it is important to have fun!
