Matthew Patel hearcannons pls XD (I luv him s0 much it hurtz)

omg my first ask! well, ask and ye shall receive! he’s probably my second fav ex (behind roxy, of course) so i definitely have thought about him quite a bit

So anyway:

Matthew Patel headcanons!

I’m still figuring out an exact backstory behind how he got his fire powers (I have a vague idea figured out but it is partially influenced by the religion/mythology of a culture outside my own & I just wanna make sure I do enough research to make sure I’ve written it respectfully, or else just do something different), but he’s had them for as long as he can remember. He had a hard time controlling them when he was younger, and that unfortunately led to him being ostracized by his peers growing up. He did have a loving family, though; his mother did her best raising him given the circumstances, and the two have a close relationship to this day.

He met Ramona in seventh grade, and she was one of the first people to not be afraid of him or label him as “weird;” in fact, she thought his powers were actually pretty cool. She was a bit of an outcast herself, and the two of them bonded over their shared status as misfits.

They also bonded over their shared hatred of the jocks; Matt because they bullied him, and Ramona bc they kept trying to hit on her. You know how it goes from here; they teamed up and took them down.

They dated for about a week and a half, but then Ramona dumped him out of nowhere, claiming she just wasn’t interested anymore. Matt was very hurt and confused by this, and it soon became clear to him that she was just using him for his powers (which was true to an extent, but she ultimately did care about him as a friend).

Angry and humiliated, Matt lost control of his temper (ergo, his powers, which are largely connected to his emotions) and his entire body lit on fire in a sudden burst of rage. He thankfully didn’t hurt Ramona, but she was standing close enough to get startled pretty badly without getting burned.

He only calmed down once he saw the look of terror in her eyes and the way she flinched back and he realized, with horror, what he had done. He let his anger get the better of him. He could’ve seriously injured her, or even killed her; the first true friend he ever made. And now she only saw him the way everyone else did. He tried to apologize, but she ran away frightened before he could get a word in. He’s carried the guilt of that day with him ever since.

Things were super awkward between them for the rest of middle school; they both wanted to say something about how they handled things, but were both too chicken to make the first move, so they just kinda avoided each other until they went to different high schools.

It was around this time he accidentally summoned the Demon Hipster Chicks, who helped him learn how to better hone his abilities, while also encouraging him to the dark side. This is where his “evil” phase began; he decided that if people were going to see him as a villain, then so be it (except he wasn’t actually evil at his core, just a melodramatic theatre kid edgelord who leaned into the Disney Villain schtick so people would quit bothering him even tho no one really took him THAT seriously). He had much better control of his powers at this point and was at a new school with mostly different people than his elementary/middle school, but didn’t see the point in making new friends bc he figured it would just end badly (if you remember the “they all hated me” scene from Meet the Robinsons, that was kinda his attitude during that period of his life). He definitely had a few girls try to flirt with him who thought he was all dark and brooding and mysterious, but he brushed them off bc he didn’t want a repeat of what happened with Ramona (unfortunately, this only made them more interested).

Several years pass, Matt gets a better handle on his powers, and Gideon recruits him into the League of Evil Exes. Matt is hesitant at first because he just wants to forget any of that ever happened, but Gideon plays on his insecurities (as he does with all the other exes) and conflicting feelings towards Ramona, and is able to successfully manipulate him to his side.

Before the fights started, Gideon had all the exes get together for a certain period of time to train and spar with each other so they could prepare (he probably called it “team bonding exercises” like the corporate asshole he is).

It’s during this point that he meets Lucas Lee, who he develops a (heavily repressed) crush on (I’m still deciding whether I hc him as gay or bi, but either way he likes men) and Roxy Richter, who he eventually befriends BUT starts out developing an intense, bitter rivalry with. Neither can stand the other; they’re constantly bickering with each other (often over whether pirates or ninjas are superior), trying to push each other’s buttons or one-up the other, or taunting each other during sparring matches. Lucas, being the chill dude he is, usually acts as a mediator when things get heated.

But one day Lucas isn’t around while they’re sparring, things go haywire, a nerve gets struck, and Matt accidentally burns Roxy’s arm during their fight. Matt freaks out because 1. he’s reminded of what happened with Ramona and 2. he doesn’t wanna get in trouble with Gideon (think of it like someone fighting with their younger sibling and hitting them, then the younger one starts crying & the older one is trying to calm them down before their parents show up), so he whisks her away so he can bandage her up himself (bc when you grow up like he has, you gotta know how to treat a burn wound).

Roxy protests throughout the whole process, insisting that she can take care of herself just fine (even though it’s at least a second-degree burn), but Matt insists that no she can’t so just let him do this one thing. They start to open up to one another and learn about each other’s reasons for being in the League & history with Ramona, and begin to realize they have more similarities than they initially thought. They both realize that Ramona had used them in some capacity (Matt for his powers, Roxy for her sexuality; hooo boy just you WAIT until I get into her backstory), they still have a lot of conflicting feelings about her (Matt feels guilty over almost hurting her, while Roxy is still in love with her at this point), and they both just don’t like Scott.

From then on, they become the most inseparable best friends to ever best friend. Shortly after, Lucas gets roped into their shenanigans and they form an unstoppable trio of besties. Roxy is all-too-aware of Matt’s crush on Lucas and teases him about it every chance she gets.

Things are fun, and then Matt’s fight comes up and he gets demolished. Roxy is devastated, Lucas can only stare in shock (HC that during fights, the remaining League members are scattered throughout the audience as a precautionary measure to make sure everything goes as planned & no one gets cold feet), & Roxy makes Lucas promise he’ll win the next fight for Matt.

Matt respawns in Subspace (think the scene where Scott almost gets killed & wakes up in the dream desert, except it looks different for everyone), and once his body fully heals he wakes up back in his room having learned his lesson, but also realizing that Gideon has been using them all as pawns.

During Lucas’s fight he manages to get Roxy away from the crowd, she realizes he’s not dead (first she punches him in the gut & then hugs him while saying something to the effect of “don’t you ever scare me like that again you asshole”) and he tries to convince her that the League isn’t worth it. She realizes the situation she’s gotten herself in, but feels like she’s already in too deep (plus part of the reason she joined was to prove herself; both to Ramona and in general, and she’s still determined to do so), and even if she wanted to leave (which she does now that her only friends are gone) they’re all bound by contract until the job is done.

At some point during all this, he moves in with Lucas (just as housemates…at first *wink*), and then Roxy moves in with them for a period of time until she starts dating Envy and they move in together. Between the three of them, he’s the best cook by a landslide.

He does eventually reconcile with Ramona after the events of the main story (NOT romantically, just for the purposes of getting closure); he apologizes for losing his temper and almost burning her to a crisp when they were kids, and to his surprise she responds that, while she was definitely scared in the moment, she ultimately hasn’t held it against him too much since he was still controlling his powers, and they acknowledge that they were both dumb preteens who didn’t know any better and were dealing with dumb preteen feelings.

I’m debating for the above scene to take place while he’s in Subspace post-battle (once again, similar to Scott after he gets killed), but I’ve also already had a similar scene with Roxy planned out in my HC for a long time (once again, just you WAIT until I get into that); I’m wondering if something like this could happen for all the exes so she could have a chance to get closure with them if she wanted to but idk if this would be too repetitive or defeat the purpose of her character arc in the canon story.

His friendship with Roxy is almost entirely made up of affectionate snark, daring each other to do dumb shit, gossip, attempting to one-up each other on karaoke night (or just scream-singing in the car together) and at various video games, and incredibly long-winded conversations about their favorite movies and respective love lives (and unsuccessfully trying to convince the other to just tell their crush how they feel). To give you an idea, imagine Steve & Robin from Stranger Things if they leaned more chaotic neutral.

As mentioned earlier, he’s a huge, proudly unabashed theatre kid; he grew up watching a lot of musicals & Bollywood movies & was pretty heavily involved in his high school drama club when he wasn’t being an edgy loner.

Thanks to his powers, he himself is completely immune to fire.

There’s probably more I can’t think of off the top of my head, that I’m still figuring out, or that was covered in my “randomly assorted” post, but if I think of anything else I’ll add it here!

She's inspired by medusa in greek mythology, I know she appeared like 5 seconds in the disney movie, but like how can i not put such an iconic character??? also, medusa is quite villainy in the mythos, so i feel like it fits the twst theme yknow.

Bellaire Witcher

So her inspiration is basically a mix of the cheshire cat and mad hatter. she's a tortured artist, so not exactly based on a disney character i just find it fun to make a very wild and artistic character. now i don't know if i should keep her clover design maybe I'll change it because i gave her a clover bcs i thought it looked cute lmao.

Ruth Burn

I just wanted a fox oc lmao. I thought omg twst doesn't have foxes, and then fellow popped up, and I'm like, welp. So personality wise, Ruth is a very responsible person, but she has a cheeky side that is kinda like ruggie in a way. Her motivations are more social rather than self-preservation like ruggie. i didn't really base her on any character from disney i just knew i didn't want her to be text book cheeky fox character, wanted her to be more of like a normal teen with bits of fox like slyness in her.

Mielin Schoerin and Mimi Schoerin

They're kinda inspired by the twin cats in lady and the tramp. The first two that i designed, actually.

Mielin (dark hair) is the oldest between the two, and she's the most developed character in the cast because i just fell in love with her LMAO. Mielin's name came from a part of a cell in the nerve system cmiiw, so its main job is to protect, and i was like, hell yeah, that name sounds cool. So she's the more mellow twin takes things more seriously than her sister. She's usually seen to be very uptight and awkward by the other students but that's mostly because she's just quite dense with her surroundings. funfact but i like to imagine she's the girl crush of campus bcs i want to give her so much love shhshsb

Mimi (blondie) is the younger one, and i like to think she's the more energetic of the two, but she is more analytical than mielin. Mimi has this aura of being more laid back of the two, but she has the sense of being all knowing of things. kinda like floyd but not as wacky as floyd.

Naima / Zahra (can't decide but im leaning towards Naima)

Honestly, she's my fav design, but i have no clue on her background yet. I'm leaning towards her being a passionate dancer whose roots are from traditional dances from her culture, or i could go the other route of her being an ex athlete or ex idol. since the story i want to tell through her is to be her own self and come to terms with her choices because, like, what if our choices are just not right for us? Im trying to make her into a character that isn't similar to the existing cast in twst, idk im finding myself making her into a jamil 2.0 and im putting more thought into her to not be like that. the disney movie doesn't really have a character that i want to adopt to be her so im still thinking about it.

Melissa (Mel)

so diasomnia's book is still ongoing, i dont have any fixed plans for her involvement with the existing cast yet. but my plan is to make her a race of beings opposite to faes in a sense, since her magic doesn't come from her but the magic of others around her. so, like sucking the life out of them and repurposing it to be her own type of thing. Malleus finds her abandoned in the forest as a young kid with all the magic in the surrounding area gone. She gets adopted, but lilia refuses because she can be dangerous with her inate powers that can weaken malleus and endanger silver since in my head, they found her after lilia took in silver. so they came to an agreement to take care of mel with the condition she stays away from silver and malleus before learning to control her powers. Now, what makes mel okay with this treatment in her head is because she remembers everything from her birth and how her mother abandoned her and stuff so she feels like its normal and devotes herself to Malleus as a guard as a sense of gratitude for letting a monster like her in. Her arc is realizing that she's not a monster that she was made to believe. Instead, she was a neglected kid who wasn't taught properly. Honestly, i just feel really sad about her, and initially, i want her to explore lilia's character since he's one of my favorites but after concocting this i just want to give mel a hug.

Hi I wanna participate in the match up event and I would like to be matched up with a papa!

So personality wise I am usually very energetic and out going, I like to talk to people and listen even though I get side tracked a lot, I can also ramble a lot about something I’m passionate about or just random stuff, I have a bad tendency to apologize a lot even for stuff that doesn’t even need an apology. I can also he very BLAH at times and just feel sad and moody sometimes but not often, I can also get frustrated easily with something if I don’t understand it when I feel like I should understand it right away and I don’t Like being frustrated and or angry so sometimes I end up in a frustrated crying mess somewhere. I hate annoying people and or angering people and I’m always scared that I am somehow even when people tell me I’m not, I almost all the time put others before myself and make sure that they are comforted and cared for even if I’m not doing so great myself- I don’t like loud noises or loud areas it gives me major anxiety and makes me nervous (this includes yelling I hate yelling). I can also be very touchy in like I give a lot of physical affection to people I am friends with but I am respectful of boundaries and only do what makes them comfortable and always ask if I can do something before doing it. I can be quite… oblivious? I guess at times because sometimes I don’t get certain jokes and or I don’t get social cues and it needs to be explained to me before I go “OH-“ and finally understand. I am also not that confident in certain stuff liking singing and can’t do it in front of certain people even though I really want to but I just don’t have the confidence and so I just can’t- and I like drawing, dancing, archery, wake surfing, writing, MOTHS, Butterflies and music! Also Daddy issues-

Anyway onto physical appearance I am very short I stand around 5’3 to 5’2, I am pretty chubby, I can’t exactly explain how my hair looks cause I’m growing it out and it’s not exactly a certain hairstyle so Idk anyway my hair used to be black and blue but now it’s very faded and my natural blonde is showing through again. style wise I don’t have a specific style but I mainly stay within the realms of Goth, Lolita, and cottage core, I like to wear baggy shirts and hoodies and jeans, but sometimes I wear more form fitting clothes and fem clothes like dresses or skirts. I like to watch a lot of Disney movies mainly old Disney movies Like beauty and the beast, Sleeping Beauty, Aladin, the little mermaid, or princess and the frog, I also like old rom coms (my sister introduced me to singing in the rain and it happened one night and I’ve been absolutely in love with them), I also like musicals my favs being Sweeney Todd, Hamilton, little shop of horror’s, be more chill, Six, Phantom of the opera, and Heathers. Anime is another thing I like my favorites being Full metal alchemist brother hood, and JoJo’s bizzare adventure, and I also like horror movies and to scary things like haunted houses. I don’t read much but when I do… it’s mainly fanfic- or romance novels. My music taste very much varies GREATLY like my Spotify playlist is just a fucking mess, but I’ve been listening to ghost mainly for the past few months.

Other little random facts I most likely forgot to add :D, I like listening to heart beats they are very comforting, Spider-man and Harley Quinn are my favorite superhero’s, I get called a cinnamon roll often and I constantly refuse cause IM NOT- I have a bad tendency to bite the skin off of my lip sometimes till my lip bleeds, and I have a bad tendency to bite the bed of my nails. I am surprisingly good with kids even if I don’t like them most of the time, I don’t like big parties, I have sworn off drinking and drugs, I will dance and sing to music when I think no one is home, I get embarrassed easily, I sometimes gently bite the people I love in an affectionate gesture (only if it’s okay with them ofc), I sometimes give random nicknames to my friends. I will quote movies at random times (mainly princess bride), and I make a popping sound sometimes and I sometimes make a small squeak sounds, and I shake my hands up and down and jump a bit when extremely happy or excited.

He loves how you put others first but when it’s you that needs support he’ll make sure you look after yourself.

If he thinks you now need to be looked after, he’ll carry you to bed, put a blanket over you, put on and old Disney film and hold you close to him.

He also loves to let you listen to his heartbeat. He’ll stroke your hair as you rest your head on his chest

He once heard you singing, he got home early. He coughs awkwardly and you stop and get embarrassed. “No cara please don’t stop, you sing beautifully. And umm well I err love this song, can I join you please?” He starts to sing and you join in quietly at first. His eyes light up with joy and he grins. He gives you confidence so you sing a little louder.

Now, when it’s just you two alone you sing and dance together.

He loves receiving physical affection and giving it.

He adores seeing you excited, he thinks it’s adorable how you jump up and down.

The first time you asked to bite him he was a little surprised. But he now is quite happy for you to because he knows it’s affectionate. He does often wonder if you might be distantly related to a ghoul.

QuackerJack has a perfectly normal twin brother named QuackerZachary that lives in Duckburg and isn't relevant to the plot

His "Origin Story" begins with a series of mundane bad luck

QuackerJack caused a bullet ant infestation that resulted in St. Canard being fumigated, which is probably one of the reasons he was sued

QuackerJack collects LaserDiscs

QuackerJack's weird eating habits includes, but not limited to: Eating Mac and Cheese as a scoop in his hand like an apple, eating coleslaw out of a paper bag with his fingers, drinks ranch dressing straight out of the bottle, chomps down on a soda can to shotgun it, etc...

QuackerJack's plumage is underdeveloped, and better resembles down instead of guard feathers. They're very fine and fluffy, and not very waterproof, hence why he can't float like other Ducks. This gives him the Duck equivalent to being "baby faced", which he finds embarrassing. Part of why he wears so much attire is to draw attention away from that.

QuackerJack went to the Duck-verse equivalent to Woodstock when he was 19. Yes, he did have a VW esque van, and yes, it was a pretty awesome time.

QuackerJack is a licensed nail technician, but business for such a salon in a predominantly avian city is pretty non existent. The reason for this is because he took college courses in fashion and cosmetology in order to better design dolls that would appeal more to customers.

Aforementioned fashion classes were very helpful in his costume design skills as well.

QuackerJack checks the dump regularly for discarded game consoles and controllers so he could gut them for parts to repurpose into his mechanical creations

Pertaining to the "QJ is Goz's Bio Dad" theory, him being so is why Taurus Bulba targeted him in the comics during his time working at QuackWerk.

QuackerJack is canon to Super Smash Bros (something I've been working on for a while now, with some posts linking the ideas via connecting game appearances and all that, but basically, because he's in "Disney Heroes Battle Mode", he's effectively linked to Wreck-it Ralph, which includes links to specific game franchises that would be in SSB, as well as linking to Kingdom Hearts and Minecraft, both of which were added to SSBU after I'd half-joked about those being the missing links)

The only things I really project would be a few quirks and similar things I always related to that I would know how to write about properly because "write what you know". 👀

Also, I just want him having amblyopia to be reasonable because I never see that get represented and Nega-QuackerJack having those thick crafting glasses at least gives me hope

and yes, of course, and just because you asked nicely, i will add an extra angst flavour at the end >:D

no matter what, no matter how busy the week has been, no matter how stressful the role of being the consul is, alec refuses to work on sundays.

why you may ask? dude, it’s sunday family funday (named by max, not me)

at the start of the month, every person puts an activity that they would like to do in a hat (one of magnus’ old hats from the 1800s, because it’s deep enough to hold all of the suggestions)

max and rafael take turns each week to pick out one thing from the hat

doesn’t matter how crazy the idea is, alec and magnus have to make it happen

and with max and rafael, it could be literally ANYTHING

ranging from something laidback (like alec’s idea of having a disney movie marathon)

to something borderline illegal (max’s brilliant idea of making bath bombs that actually exploded) - “dad, why are they called bath bombs if they don’t go boom?”

despite the emotional turmoil malec go through every sunday, it’s still a crucial part of the week, and by far, their favourite day

nothing brings malec more joy than when their sons are happy

BONUS ANGST:

when max and rafael are older

magnus has been alive for quite some time

using this knowledge, for christmas, he bought himself and his family (quite expensive) gold chain bracelets, and he got them all engraved with their initials (so magnus would wear one that was engraved with m.l.b., alec’s had a.g.l.b, you get it)

when alec passed, naturally alec’s bracelet went to magnus, but magnus couldn’t even look at his own without tearing up, let alone alec’s, the bracelet that was worn by the love of all his lifetimes

it was the same for max

when rafael died, he left his bracelet to his brother. rafael and max might not have been blood brothers, but not a single living soul, alive, dead or oncoming, would ever compare to the bond max and rafael shared

the moment max got his hands on rafael’s bracelet, it went straight into a box and was shoved into the back of his closet - it was just a reminder that he would never be able to talk to, hug or laugh with his brother ever again

in alec and rafael’s memory, they still do sunday family funday together when they’re in new york at the same time

it was one of these sundays, five years after rafael’s death, that max broke down about the bracelet

this was when they decided it was best to swap bracelets, because although it hurt to see the bracelets without the owner, it was a lot better to cope with the other bracelet

max was glad to have something to remind him of his dad, the brave one who was looked up to by many

and magnus was glad to have something that reminded him of his son, the child alec took in on a whim but magnus couldn’t imagine never having the chance to know this child who would go on to do such brilliant things

okay, got carried away with the angst (angst is my fav lol) but i hope these were good!!!

i have a very dear friend who is 72 who i read books with and we meet once a week to zoom. she's going through a tough time and we were talking about disney movies -- i am a big disney movie nerd, even going back to the ones released when she was a child -- but she hasn't seen more than two or three when they were in theaters in the '50s and '60s. so we decided to do a series of double features, the pairs picked by me.

tonight we started with snow white and the seven dwarfs (1937) and the little mermaid (1989).

i felt like the pairing of the movie that started it all with the movie that kicked off the disney renaissance was appropriate. there's also a fairly stark contrast to the fairly passive snow white, waiting for the prince to come save her (and industriously working hard at domestic labor so as to be able to have a roof over her head--remember this was made in the 1930s!) with ariel, who saves the prince, makes her own choices in the movie (even if they are bad ones), and ultimately works with the prince to save the ocean (world?) from bigger stakes than just her own life and romance--stopping the evil sea witch/queen ursula, who was clearly a menace to all merkind.

my friend had vague memories of snow white when it was apparently rereleased in a local theater in the 1950s, but she had never seen the little mermaid. she didn't grow up with fairy tales so she didn't even know the original story. i asked her what she thought would happen as the movie was unfolding. she immediately at the beginning thought ariel would come around to realizing "there's no place like home" and meet some nice young merman. even at the middle of the movie she thought this is what would happen--that ariel would end up in the ocean. only after the big scene at the end when triton is watching ariel watch eric did she go--oh, he's going to let her go! and then said "i realize why so many kids like this movie."

ariel's story, while still a disney princess romance, is about not feeling like you fit in, finding a world where you thrive and are happy, struggling to keep it, and then making peace with your parent(s) as he accepts you've grown and must lead your own life.

the other things i noticed while watching this double feature:

the animation is remarkably similar looking even though 50 years have passed -- my friend commented on this

it was at first unsettling getting used to the animals talking in the little mermaid after having watched snow white, even though i grew up with TLM as my fav and must have watched it hundreds of times

another parallel between the movies is these are the two where the villain turns herself into another person to deceive our heroes -- i don't think that happens in the other main disney movies (maleficent turning into a dragon is not for deceit)

very unfortunately my friend dozed off during poor unfortunate souls. i explained what he had happened to her but i needn't have, sebastian and flounder explain it to scuttle shortly after--i hadn't noticed before that the movie does that. good for kids who couldn't quite follow the lyrics of the song and need the rules spelled out clearly for them.

my friend got such a kick out of the lyrics of les poissons, rightly so

our next double feature takes us into the animal kingdom -- the jungle book (1967) followed by the lion king (1994)

Same anon asking about underrated Disney movie. I shamefully forget to ask about Oliver and company which is a fav of mine. And do you have anything thoughts on Lady and the Tramp, Aristocats, or the Fox and the Hound for that matter?

Honestly, my feelings about ALL of those films are the same basic thing: "it's okay." All of them have their little faults and issues, and none of them are in my Top 20...but I don't think any of them are BAD movies. "Oliver" tells a fun retelling of a Dickensian classic, has some memorable characters and some decent songs, but not much else to add. "Lady and the Tramp" is a cute film, and it gets surprisingly intense towards the end, but I can't say it's a major favorite of mine. I DO love the artistry of it, though; they do a lot with a little in that film, so to speak, the backgrounds are just gorgeous. "Aristocats" is probably my least favorite of the bunch here, because it kind of feels like it meanders a bit, so to speak. But it's not bad: I used to watch it a LOT as a kid, but as an adult, I don't quite have the same adoration of it. "Fox and the Hound," in contrast, might be my favorite one of the bunch here; I love it's darker tone, it's more complex characters, the twisted relationships contained in the story, and that there really isn't a proper villain in the tale. (That's SORT OF the case with Lady and the Tramp as well, to be fair.) It feels very "real" compared to other Disney films, and there are some truly heartbreaking moments. However, at times I feel it's a bit slow, and there are some moments that I feel could have been even stronger with a slight change or two. Again, none of these are bad Disney films, I like all of them, but I just like others more. (shrugs)

I discovered Onewe with Rain to be so it hold a special place in my heart 😊 Ah yes tell me when you listen and if you like some of them. I must add Xeed to that list cause i just start stanning and OMG i'm obsessed Dream Land is on repeat all day.

It was indeed really bad 🙈 and all the things they changed. Alec wedding...that is when they lost me for good! My favorite character is Jem (baby 🥺) and Magnus and Alec are my favorite couple, so cute.

In all honestly i don't own any albums or anything kpop related...yet. I always feel "weird" when i say it cause i know that for some people it makes you not a real fan. “best friend” | eli “hawk” moskowitz x reader

a/n: his hair is blue in the gif but red in the story :) also this is a bit long but i love it this is one of my favs

warnings: mentions of violence and cheating, swearing

summary: your boyfriend cheated on you and your best friend hawk is there for you

You should’ve known. It couldn’t have been more obvious.

The way that he doesn’t let you see what’s on his phone. How he never takes you out anymore. The emotional distance you feel when he kisses you. It’s like he’s not even in the same room when you’re together.

Even with all the signs and evidence, your heart still broke like glass when you saw them together. Your boyfriend Danny and the girl that he always assured you was only his “best friend”, locking lips on his bed.

You had come to Danny’s house because he cancelled plans with you, claiming that he was sick. So you decided to surprise him with cookies that you baked, but he ended up having quite a surprise for you too.

The window of his room gave you a perfect view of the scene, and it was almost like you were meant to see it. Like he wanted you to see it. You stood in front of his house for what seemed like forever, trying to figure it out if it was real.

You tried d to rack your brain for excuses as to why he would do it. But there weren’t any. He was simply cheating on you.

Your heart physically hurt as your brain settled on that fact and you threw the plate of cookies on his lawn in defeat. Not caring if the noise made him look out the window, you began the walk back to your house with blurry vision from your tears.

But on the way there, you passed the house of your best friend Hawk. Seeking comfort from your heartbreak, you made your way to his window that you’ve always used as an entrance when you two hang out.

His light was on and you could hear his music, so you knocked on the glass with the rhythm you both made up to let him know that’s it’s you.

You waited as the music stopped and Hawk pulled back the curtains to reveal you. His red hair was down and framing his face in the way you like it. You’re the only person he allows to see him like that, and that fact always warms your heart.

Hawk looked happy to see you, but his smile dropped when he saw your tear stained cheeks and he quickly opened up the window. Helping you get in, he asked, “Y/N, what happened? Are you okay?”

You stood awkwardly in front of him, playing with your fingers. You weren’t sure if you even wanted to tell Hawk. He’s always hated Danny, and Hawk isn’t the most peaceful of creatures.

You didn’t say anything and just buried your face into his chest. You started to cry again, feeling safe in his arms as he held you tightly.

He led you to the bed to sit you down and let you cry it out in his warm embrace. He was worried about you, he’s never seen you like this; but he wouldn’t force you to talk. So for 15 minutes, Hawk ran his fingers through your hair comfortingly as you calmed down from your sobs.

“I’m sorry,” you spoke for the first time, smoothing down your hair. His shirt was filled with your tear stains, but he really couldn’t care less. He just wanted you to be okay.

“Don’t be sorry. Do you want to talk about it?” he said softly. He had a feeling about why you were crying, and he felt anger starting to bubble in his stomach.

You contemplated for a moment, not knowing if you should tell him. You knew Hawk. He would seek revenge on your behalf and it would end in blood.

But he would also find out anyways. If not from seeing Danny at school with the other girl, then he would probably put the pieces together if you told him that you broke up.

The only difference in the outcomes would be that right now you’re in control of how he finds out and you could possibly convince him to leave the situation alone.

“I-It’s Danny,” you breathed, feeling queasy about your decision.

You saw something flash in Hawk’s eyes and his fist tightened at the mention of your (ex) boyfriend’s name. “What did that fucker do,” he said, with a frightening, calm anger.

“Just... Don’t get mad, okay?” you stuttered. You could almost feel the change in the air just from the two words you spoke. Hawk unclenched his jaw and nodded, trying to be calm for you.

“I went to his house, and that was before I came here. And... I saw him with...,” your voice quavered as tears started blurring your vision again. It hurt to say it out loud and you couldn’t even finish your sentence.

Hawk abruptly stood up from beside you, and through your tear filled eyes, you could see the rage on his face. “I’m killing him,” was all he said, as he moved around the room to get his keys and jacket.

You stood up when he got to the door, and you pulled on his arm to make him stop. “Hawk, please. Stop,” you cried, but he was determined to make Danny hurt the way you were hurt. He wanted to hurt him more.

“That asshole was lucky to even have you look at him, Y/N. He’s fucking dead,” Hawk spit, taking his arm from you and making his way to the front door.

“Hawk! Just- stop. Stop! He isn’t worth it. Can you just stay here with me?” you whimpered, and at that moment his face fell. “Just stay, please. I need you.”

You saw the conflict on his face; the pity for you and his hatred for the boy who broke you. But with you in front of him, with puffy eyes and a cute red nose, he knows there’s no way he can leave.

The rest of the night, Hawk took care of you. He ordered in pizza from your favorite place and watched your favorite Disney movie with you, even though he always called it lame. His jokes made you laugh uncontrollably as if you hadn’t just gotten cheated on hours earlier. As always, your best friend was there to save the day.

“I’m sorry Y/N,” he said quietly as he played with your hair. It was already 1 am and you were both laying on his bed. You were exhausted from the day’s events; the thought of school the next day, especially seeing Danny, made you want to throw up.

“You were right,” you whispered, closing your eyes. Hawk had always been wary of Danny, and he often let you know it.

“Well, you see the best in everyone,” you felt the vibration of his voice from his chest, where you rested your head.

“What do you mean?” you looked up at him, struggling to read his face in the dark. His face was turned towards the ceiling in deep thought.

Hawk cleared his throat. “You see the good in people... and that’s my favorite thing about you. But sometimes you’re just so blind to the bad,” he explained.

You stayed quiet, thinking about his words and not really knowing how to interpret them. He continued, “I guess I’m trying to say that you’re different from normal people; you see through rose colored glasses. You dated that scumbag because you’re so loving that you saw the good in him, even if there’s fucking barely any.”

You laughed at the remark, then let him go on. “Even with me. I do shit that make people hate me. I throw punches that I regret and start fights that make me a horrible person in other people’s eyes. But you don’t really think of me like that, no matter how much I mess up. You’re the only person in my life who doesn’t see me as my fuck ups,” Hawk poured his heart out. “But I promise, I would never take advantage of you like him. Just keep living in your little world, alright? Don’t let him ruin that.”

You were left speechless. He had never said something so heartfelt to you and you wanted to cry at how sweet it was. You’ve never really thought about his view of you, but you guess it’s true. Sometimes your blind optimism gets you hurt, but you’re thankful that it helped you find your best friend. Yes, he’s not an angel, but if you listened to what everyone was saying about him, then you two would be strangers.

“I love you Hawk,” was all you said, and you kissed his cheek before cuddling into his side. He returned a kiss into your hair before the both of you drifted off into peaceful sleep.

The brightness of the sun woke you up from your dreams, and it took you a minute to adjust your eyes. Memories of yesterday flooded back, but you didn’t really feel sad.

The new day gave you a new perspective. You were grateful that you caught Danny, because if you didn’t, you might’ve never known. It still hurt that he betrayed you; you did love him. But wallowing in sadness would give him too much credit. He was a shit boyfriend and you vowed to cry no more tears over him.

The bed was empty, with no trace of your red haired best friend. In his place was a piece of paper with what you recognized as Hawk’s terrible handwriting.

‘Good morning you terrible snorer. Just kidding you didn’t snore. That loud. I’m sorry I didn’t wake you up for school, you looked really tired and I think you should just have the day for yourself. I have karate later so you don’t have to wait for me, but you can stay if you want. There’s more ice cream in the freezer. Love you. -H’

You smiled as you read it, feeling thankful for how caring Hawk was. You were dreading going to school and facing Danny, but you would’ve forced yourself to go anyways. Hawk probably knew that, so he gave you no choice.

The first part of the day you did some therapeutic cleaning, picking up the pizza boxes and trash from last night.

Then you explored around his room, even though you’ve been in it a thousand times. You went through the comics he used to read and you tried playing his video games, but you didn’t know how to turn it on.

You were already bored by the second hour of being alone, so you decided to head to your own house to freshen up.

‘I went home, I’ll see you tomorrow? Thank you for everything, I don’t know what I would do without you. Also I’ll buy you more ice cream lol I finished it’ you typed a text to Hawk as you walked home, smiling to yourself.

After a relaxing day alone of face masks and dancing to Lizzo, you were prepared to go to school the next day. You really appreciated that Hawk made you stay home; you needed this time to reflect on everything. You don’t need some boy who doesn’t give you the time of day, when you have Hawk.

As you got ready to go to school, you felt like a bad bitch, and you looked like one. No one would ever guess that you’ve just been through a breakup. The heartbreak didn’t last long; you just felt like you’ve dropped some unneeded weight.

You got to school, but Hawk wasn’t waiting at the front for you as usual. It was weird, because he never said anything about missing class. You figured he was just running late.

But when he never showed up to your shared first period class, it made you worry.

‘Hey, did you not go to school today? Everything good?’ you sent him a quick text as you walked through the halls to your next class.

You were feeling anxious, a contrast from your earlier confidence. You didn’t think you’d be alone today and now you really didn’t want to see Danny without Hawk by your side.

But as if you summoned him and the universe hated you, your cheating ex boyfriend was coming from the other end of the hall. Your eyes met at the exact same moment and you wanted to look away, but you couldn’t.

A black eye adorned his face, matched with a bruised jaw and a wounded lip.

His eyes frantically searched around you as if he was looking for someone. He looked scared.

Suddenly, your brain put all of the puzzle pieces together and you came to a realization. Hawk did this, and he wasn’t at school because he probably got suspended.

Danny tried to move past you, but you grabbed his arm and pulled him to the side of the hallway. He didn’t meet your eyes as you stood in front of him.

“Danny... what happened?” you asked, even though you already knew the answer.

You didn’t know how to feel. You know you should be angry that Hawk didn’t listen to you, but you felt no pity towards the boy in front of you.

Danny scoffed. “You know what happened. Your little boyfriend started the fight, saying shit about how I don’t deserve you and I’m a cheating asshole.”

You rolled your eyes. “One, he’s not my boyfriend. Two, he’s right, you don’t deserve me. And three, you are a cheating asshole. You said Emily was just your friend, but I should’ve known. I saw you,” you snapped, but he shook his head and laughed.

“You don’t see it, do you? That you’re just as guilty as me?” Danny sneers.

“What?” you blink in confusion.

“Oh come on Y/N. You were always his. It was him first, and then me. But he was just your “best friend”, right? Don’t act all innocent, when anyone can see that you have feelings for him.”

Your mouth falls open slightly at his words, and he continues, “Look I’m sorry that it went down like this, but you should be with him. We’re just not meant for each other and it’s obvious that you love him more than you’ve ever loved me. And he loves you too. Otherwise I wouldn’t be looking like this. We’re fine, alright? Goodbye Y/N.”

Danny gives you a tight lipped smile before leaving, but you’re left staring into space, speechless. You didn’t expect anything he just told you and you don’t even know if you believe it.

Is he right? Do you love Hawk, like that? You’ve felt like the victim the whole time, but you never would’ve thought that Danny felt like one too.

You began to feel guilty, looking back on the relationship at times when you would leave dates with Danny to pick up Hawk when he’s in trouble. When you would choose to sleepover at Hawk’s house instead of Danny’s because he had a breakdown. And when sometimes you’re a little bit too affectionate with your best friend, but you’ve always excused it as platonic even though his forehead kisses gave you butterflies.

Maybe you really weren’t all that innocent.

Maybe you did love Hawk more than Danny, and maybe you’re only just now realizing it.

The pattern of the knocking at your window made your stomach turn.

You’re not sure if you’re ready to face Hawk after your revelation, because after thinking on it for the rest of the day, all signs pointed to him. Every single thing Danny said was right.

You love Hawk.

The only thing you aren’t sure of is how Danny said he loves you too. You’ve always thought that Hawk sees you as a little sister and strictly as a best friend, which is why he’s so protective. The possibility that confessing your feelings could ruin your relationship created a conflict within you.

You opened your window and there he was. He had a gash right above his brow, presumably from Danny, but he didn’t look half as bad as the boy he beat up.

You saw Hawk in a different light as he stood like Romeo before you. It was as if the realization of your feelings for him made his eyes look more beautiful and his lips look softer, and you no longer had to faithfully push those thoughts away.

“Hey,” was all he said, as he stumbled in through the sill into your room. His hair was down again, because he knew you liked it like that and he hoped it would help you not be too mad at him.

“Hi,” you said awkwardly, walking back to sit on your bed where he followed. He sat close to you so that your shoulders were touching, and even though he’s been closer, it made you feel lightheaded.

“Look, Y/N, I’m sorry, I know you said to leave it alone, but he hurt you, and I needed to-”

“I’m not mad,” you interrupted his nervous rambling.

“Oh,” his shoulders relaxed, but his fingers were still nervously tapping on his knees.

There’s a weird silence between you two, and it was out of the ordinary that you didn’t have something to talk about.

“Are you alright?” you finally looked at him for the first time since you both sat down.

You don’t know what compelled you to do it, but you lifted up your hand to lightly trace your fingers along his brow where the cut was. His ocean eyes were on you as you did it, but you felt nervous to meet them.

“I’m fine. Did you see him?” Hawk said in a light tone, smiling as you touched his skin.

You let out a quiet laugh. “Yes. Nice work,” you mused.

You pulled your hand away from his face, but he grabbed it before you could put it down. He moved your hand back to his skin, releasing millions of butterflies in your stomach. “I like it,” he said, and you only nodded.

“So how long are you out for?” you questioned, referring to his suspension.

“Three days,” he mumbled, eyes closing in relaxation as you started touching his hair. You sighed in response. “It was worth it though.”

He still had his eyes shut when you put down your hand and wrapped your arms around him. He blinked in surprise, then held you closer. “Thank you. You’re the only one who would take a punch for me,” you said, pouring gratitude into the embrace.

“I don’t think that’s true, but you’re welcome,” he rested his head in the crook of your shoulder and you felt his hair tickle your ear. “It was for me too, you know? I hated his guts.”

You responded with a hum of understanding, still grasping onto him like he could leave any moment.

He pulled back from you enough to see your face, and he looked concerned while he tried to read you. “What’s wrong?”

You really underestimated how much he knows you, because he sensed your anxiety even though you tried to mask it.

“Nothing’s wrong,” you offered a smile, but he wasn’t convinced.

“Did you talk to him?” he asked, rubbing soft circles on your hand. He knew you were thinking about something and he wanted you to open up, but he was always delicate with it.

You just nodded, feeling your palms getting sweaty. Talking about your conversation with Danny would bring up what he said about you and Hawk, and you weren’t even sure if you wanted to spill your heart yet. You internally cursed at yourself for not hiding your emotions well enough.

“Did he say shit to you? I swear if-”

“No. We just... talked,” you cut him off. You prayed that he would leave the topic, but he didn’t.

“What about?” he pressed, making you feel hot from nerves.

“Uh... I just asked him about what happened,” you answered, but there was no way he couldn’t hear the shake in your voice.

“Then what’s bothering you? You can talk to me Y/N,” he said softly, a worried look in his eyes. You felt bad keeping secrets from him, because that’s something you never did.

“Promise me we’ll always be best friends,” your voice shook, making his face twist up in confusion.

“What? Of course. Hey, nothing could change that alright?” he looked at you with his soft eyes.

You swallowed, feeling a bit better by his reassurance.

“He- He just said some things that made me think about... us. And I was blind to it, but- he’s right. Well he’s right about me, I don’t really know how you feel, but now I’m just so confused- and for some reason him cheating on me felt justified in a way? I-” you rambled anxiously, until Hawk stopped your frenzy of word vomit.

“Woah, woah, slow down Y/N... just... what? What is he right about? And how could that be justified? There’s no excuse for what he did Y/N,” his voice raised at the mere thought of Danny gaslighting you into thinking that somehow you deserved to be cheated on.

“No- I- I know it was shitty but... Hawk,” you took a deep breath to prepare yourself for your confession. “I think I cheated too. But not like him. I- I cheated emotionally,” you spit the words out, not only admitting it to him, but also to yourself.

The red haired boy’s face was blank in confusion as he processed what you had just said. “Y/N what the fuck are you talking about?”

You struggled to reach his eyes while you carefully tried to think through your answer. You felt like if you looked at him you would simply melt, but maybe in this case it would be a good thing.

He put his hand gently under your chin to tilt your face towards his, forcing you to meet his blue, puzzled eyes. You wanted to burst into tears under his gaze, because you had no idea what to do.

Hiding your feelings could ruin your friendship. Confessing has the same chance. So which are you supposed to choose?

“Hey, hey, it’s alright. I love you. I love you so fucking much Y/N and that’s forever. Nothing you say or do could change that,” Hawk said, rubbing your hand comfortingly. He thought you were hesitating in telling him because you were afraid of his judgment.

Those three words. They felt different this time. They made you more dizzy. More fluttery. The way he said it was the same as all the other times, but the way it made you feel was just so different.

It gave you such a high that you decided to take a leap of faith before you could fully think it through. A leap that you know deep down was always going to happen, even if it looked like there were two choices. You could regret it, but you just jumped.

“I love you. I mean, I’m in love with you, Eli. I’ve always been in love with you.”

You felt like you needed to run away right as you said it, as if the words were a bomb that you didn’t want to see the aftermath of. You didn’t want to see the outcome because you were afraid it would just leave you devastated.

Eli.

His mouth slightly fell open at the use of his old name, next to your piercing confession.

For some reason it slipped out of your mouth, but it felt right. You’ve probably said it five times ever since “Hawk” was born, but it was only used in serious conversations. Like when you comforted him after his dad died. Or when you were so worried about him when he ran away from home for a week.

“I’m so sorry, Eli,” you said, after hearing the news.

“I missed you so much, Eli, never fucking do that again,” you cried into his shoulder when he showed up at your door.

It was like a code between the two of you that you were being nothing but genuine.

Hawk sat in shock in front of you, and you swore you could actually see the escalation of thoughts running through his head.

“Maybe it took an asshole like Danny to make me realize it, but he was right. I’ve never loved anyone more than I love you... and I knew that, but it’s just how it’s always been. I thought we would go through life together but be with other people, even though I would always put you first. I thought that it was just an us thing, you know? Best friends. But I just- I realized that I don’t even need anyone else. I only need you,” you scanned his eyes for a moment before continuing. “I know I won’t love anyone else like I love you. And- and god, I’m just pouring my heart out and I don’t even know how you feel... I’m sorry if this is too much.”

He stared at you, stunned, and you heard your heart pounding in your chest violently as you waited for him to say something.

But instead of speaking, you felt the softness of his lips on yours before you could think another thought.

well its time to info dump about all the bruno/me au ideas i’ve had. for this i will just be using y/n in place of me though bc its just easier that way for me

some are wayyy more fleshed out than others. and i apologize for any typos i dont wanna fix em bc too much reading gives me a migraine. also im horrible at writing. i just..... say ideas. i just be saying shit

but i will start with the disneyland one. so the premise for all my disney land aus is that its a modern au where everyone just works there. i have never worked there so i dont know all the ins and outs of it. SO it’s probably not for you if you HAVE worked there. but basically bruno works as a butler at the haunted mansion. he fits in really well bc he just looks so dead all the time and he just really plays up the part for the kids when appropriate. y/n is a new hire at the mansion and bruno is your trainer. there isnt much more to it besides falling slowly in love at disneyland and mutual pining and cliche romantic moments. its completely self indulgent bc disneyland is my fav place lmao

THEN there is the art teacher one. its also pretty cliche and basic. so y/n is mirabel’s high school art teacher and she adores you and always makes such fun and colorful pieces and is excited to turn them in or get your opinion on things. she looks up to you a lot. idk if you have had like a chill friend teacher, but my art teacher was like that for me and so thats what i was inspired by.

there is an open house but julieta and agustín cant make it for one reason or another. probably work. so bruno volunteers to go instead. (pepa and félix also offered but they also have to visit all of camilo’s classrooms as well and it wouldnt be enough time. i feel like camilo would be like “nah its fine you dont have to go” but his parents want to see all his work and be so proud of him and all that.)

but anyway once they get to your classroom mirabel is excitedly showing bruno which pieces are hers and where she works and stuff. youre talking to other parents and notice them scurrying around so once youre done with the family, you head over to them. you see so much potential in mirabel and have been wanting to talk to her parents about maybe looking into some college level art classes for her because she has shown so much interest in learning more but you dont have the proper tools or space to do so. mirabel gets distracted talking to one of her classmates so that just leaves you and bruno to talk which is fine. thats kinda what you wanted. you go over and introduce yourself and once he turns and does the same, you are immediately flustered. you find him quite handsome which throws you off your rhythm. he only introduces himself as “bruno madrigal” so you just assume that he’s her father. you awkwardly just immediately dive into your spiel about how you think mirabel could benefit from other classes, refusing to look him in the eye. he just nods along, seeming to agree with your words, which is a positive sign.

not to far in mirabel pops her head in and is like “oh! Mx. y/n! i see you’ve already met my uncle.”

"o-oh! he’s not- you’re not her father?”

“no no no, things came up last minute for julieta and agustín, so i’m here to make sure mirabel is doing all her work. i know she can be a handful.” he chuckles and playfully nudges mira.

“oh i’m sorry i didn’t mean to dump all that information on you. if i knew i-”

“no you’re totally fine, i completely agree. i think...”

and you both are kinda awkward messes trying to explain yourselves and how much you both think mirabel is super talented and stuff. i’m not the best writer, but the conversation would kinda trail off and you both would have that quiet moment where you just stare at each other. the mutual attraction admire stare. and then the flustered break away. asdjkfhaskjdha im blushing thinking about it i hate myself.

it would take mirabel all of two seconds to realize what exactly is going on here. and she would make it her mission to try and set the two of you up. or at least urge you guys to talk more. find ways to get it to happen. you both obviously have this attraction at first sight type of thing.

but yeah thats!!!!!!!! the basis of that.

ALL my ideas are super basic i feel lmao. but the coffee shop one. i basically already explained everything i had for that. bruno is a screen play writer who writes under a pen name so no one knows its him. he doesn’t really enjoy interacting with people (he feels like hes terrible at it. also anxiety. which y/n later finds funny since the way he writes people seems so natural), but he does enjoy being around them. people watching. so a lot of the time he writes at coffee shops and you just so happen to work at his favorite one.

you get a lot of regulars and you remember all their names and orders. you like when they come in because they are all pretty chill. some will tell you their life gossip which you are so interested in even though you have no idea who any of the people they talk about are. you just like to be nosy. but bruno never speaks to you all that much. you’ve tried to make conversation a few times with him to be polite, but he always just awkwardly laughs and gives short answers. he is very polite and never feels stand offish. just quiet. he orders, sits down with his laptop and types away for hours.

the day you finally decide to talk to him is at the end of what you think to be his work week. he’d been staying later and later every day, seeming so caught up in his work that he’d lose track of time. that day you had to talk to him to tell him you were about to close. you tap him to try and get his attention to which he jumps and looks at you, panicked.

youre extremely worried. he looks like he hasnt slept in weeks. like much more than usual. “hey, we are about to close and... look, i don’t mean to be a bother, but is everything alright?”

he tells you that he’s just stressed about deadlines. that it’s not that big of a deal. but your nosiness gets the best of you and you prod a bit more. you’re off the clock anyway so a few questions can’t hurt.

at first he is silent, but he’s so tired that the walls he usually puts up crumble so easily. you feel like he had been waiting for the moment someone asked if he was alright...

and thats all i have rn. idk where i really want it to go from there. i have a few ideas but aaaaa too nervous to share.

and the ghost au.

so in this au, ghosts can just roam as they please depending on how sentient they are. most are trapped in a loop of their old life, but others who realize they are dead can do whatever and go wherever they want.

y/n is dead. you passed have just been mindlessly roaming the earth ever since. at first you were desperate to try and find someone who could see or hear you. but after a while you just gave up and decided to explore. you would spy on peoples lives, trying to live vicariously through them since you felt you had no purpose anymore. a lot of the time you wondered why you were still around. why the other ghosts you did come across would act like you werent even there. you never stuck around one person for too long. just gathering bits and pieces of peoples stories.

but eventually you come across something new. a family who were granted magical gifts to help their community. it fascinated you. you got there just in time to watch the youngest member get the power of inhuman strength and durability. you began to wonder if one of the children would ever get the gift to see you. that was the original reason you stuck around. it would be so nice to have someone to speak to.

you would snoop but still try to give people personal space at appropriate times. you liked the family dynamic they had at first. it seemed very sweet and helpful but you slowly learned more about this family and their secrets. their stressors, fears, and burdens. and one of their biggest secrets, bruno.

he’s already about 30 at this time. already closing himself off. he would rarely leave his tower. you noticed his sister julieta would invite him to dinner every night, but he would always decline. that slowly turned into her bringing him a plate of food, which became just leaving it by his door. tbh you dont think you had ever even seen him yet. just heard his name in conversation every now and again.

at this point you were a bit afraid of him. people talked about him in such awful ways. maybe you’d get jinxed even though you were just a spirit. you still werent sure of the rules. but your curiosity finally got the best of you. you went through bruno’s door.

he wasn’t anything like the stories. he was kind of pitiful to you at first. all this talk and he’s just this sad lonely man. his own friends were the rats. he’d chat with them all day, sometimes being silly and cracking jokes, other times talking about how he desperately wished he had a different gift. or didnt get one at all. and you honestly think the rats could understand him sometimes.

you would spend a lot of your days listening to him tell stories to his little friends. he was surprisingly very good at it, and had a flare of the theatrical. he would sometimes try to write songs but he was a terrible singer. he dabbled in drawing, painting, sewing, any type of arts to busy himself with. you could tell it helped him escape the life he was given.

before you even realized, you had spent 10 years in the encanto. you knew so much about everyone in the town, but none were as enjoyable as bruno.

you couldn’t wrap your head around why everyone despised him so much.

he rarely would use his gift if he could help it. sometimes alma would ask him to try and see things and he would never turn her down. you wished he did. especially the night that the newest madrigal didn’t get her gift.

the second you watched him hold that vision in your hands you never wanted so desperately to be heard in your death. you yelled and screamed hoping he would hear you telling him that its not his fault but there was nothing you could do.

he did try to leave. you even went with him to the top of the mountains of the encanto but he paused. bruno looked back at his home and you knew he couldn’t bring himself to leave.

during the time in the walls is when you start to feel yourself fall in love with him. or at least realize that you are. maybe you have been for a while. when he is in the walls, you can tell he’s more free than he’s ever felt. being in that tower with all the constant reminders of who he was weighed down on him more than you ever imagined. now he can make this space for who he truly wants to be. (also side note i like to think that the rooms are effected a lot by the owner so the more he distanced himself from his family, the higher up his tower became and the more ominous the space was. he didn’t want it, but he couldn’t help it) its just a lot of you falling for him and him not even knowing you are there. and once the events of the movie happen you are so happy for him. you finally get to see him accepted back in the family he loved and did so much for.

you start to distance yourself from the family though. you are far too attached but now that you know bruno will be okay, you feel that you can leave.

that is, until dolores and mariano’s first baby gets the gift to see/speak to spirits.

AND THATS IT./ okay i spent too much time typing this out. i even had to take pain killers in the middle bc the migraine was gonna kill me lmao.
