dni: shitty people, creeps, blanks, minors.
Please block my blog if anything I’ve posted makes you uncomfortable. I ask that you do not report me as there’s much worse content on this hellsite that doesn’t get taken down and I’m simply residing in my little corner of the internet with the other horny folk. Thank you!!
Every post is written with the presupposition that each party involved in the posts are of legal age (18+ or older based on your area) and are consenting adults.
Every post is fantasy.
Do not pursue me. I am not interested in you romantically or sexually in the slightest. I have been taken from the world + refer to her as v. I am in a closed monogamous demisexual relationship + want nothing to do with anyone who is not v.
You can send asks about whatever you want or submit pictures/videos of kittens (actual baby cats, the filus catus, uncommonly referred to as a domesticated carnivorous mammal) or any other non-gross thing (refer to what I post and reblog for what I’m willing to see). If it involves explicit nudity I do not want it in my askbox. It is a place for saying words or sending content of similar interest to mine, not to show off your body parts or partners. Thank you!!
I do NOT roleplay with ANYONE. No exceptions. I’ll possibly write something if you send a suggestion on anon. Or read some of my other text content + find new stuff that works for you.

Convention Guide: Basic Tabling Gear
September 2023
Whether you’re an artist alley newbie or you’ve been doing the convention circuit for years, putting together your table essentials is a crucial part of selling your wares at events and ensuring your weekend goes smoothly. In this guide, we’re covering the basics of setting up your first ever table.
This list is a non comprehensive assessment of things a tabler might need and should be used as a simple starting point. The four main categories we will cover are:
The Display
Behind the Table
Money
Quality of Life Suggestions
—🐝—
1. The Display
a) Tablecloth
Starting from the base layer, we’ve got tablecloths– an easy way to add some color and personality to your table. Your tablecloth doesn’t even have to be an actual tablecloth! You can use a length of fabric cut from a bolt at your local craft store. Convention tables tend to be 6’ long, so when selecting your fabric, look for measurements longer than 72” (183cm).
Play with color and texture to find something that fits the theme of your work on display. Patterns can be fun, but might distract from your inventory or signage if the colors/design are too bold and busy. Tip: your cloth may get messy from food behind the scenes or dust/dirt if you do outdoor events. Get something that’s easy to wash in your machine!
b) Display supports
Most artists these days use cube organizers that break apart into flat panels and connector joints. They are easy to store when not in use, easy to transport in a suitcase or tote, and you can change the shape depending on your table set up and inventory. Tip: constructing your display to include shelves that face you behind the table helps organize your backstock during the show.
These cubes aren’t your only option. Some people use milk crates, picture frames, wooden boxes, custom built shelves, etc. Consider what works best for you, your aesthetic, and your storage/transportation needs. When in doubt, you can always lay your goods flat on the table.
c) Signage
Having clear signage on your items to denote price helps people feel more comfortable purchasing from your table. Your price markers don’t have to be fancy. Prices written neatly on pieces of paper and paperclipped to your books or taped up next to your stickers is a simple and effective strategy. Some people print out a price list or use a sign board. It’s totally up to you!
Include a sign with your name somewhere in your display, including your social media handle if it is different from your artist name. This will help fans of your work more easily recognize you. Tip: use a QR code prominently displayed on your table that links to your portfolio, linktree, etc.
d) Banner/backdrop
Look out behind you! Whether it’s a banner, a backdrop, or something else, the space behind your seat can be put to use. While it is relatively easy to print custom banners at most print shops, many tablers cite this as an unnecessary expense, especially for first time artist alley participants. If you’d like to hang a collage of your work behind you, look for photography backdrop tripods, which can collapse and fold up neatly. The behind-the-table space is shared with other artists, and it can get cramped. Be mindful of your needs when deciding how to do a backdrop. Some artists opt to exclude a backdrop and just use their cubes to arch over them.
Optional: Decorate your table! Flowers, string lights, plushies, etc. can all bring a special one of a kind experience to your set up.
2. Behind The Table
a) Inventory
Now that we’re behind the table, let’s talk about what’s going on back here. Starting with inventory. If you’re absolutely unsure how much to bring, a good starting number is about 10 of each item. If you sell out, congratulations! You’ll know what to bring more of next time, or you’ll know you should raise your prices. For storing inventory during transportation to the con and while at the show, you might consider simple boxes, an accordion folder, or a portfolio case, depending on what kind of items you’re bringing. Reminder: if you’re using display cubes, structuring them to give you shelves on your side of the table will help you keep things organized.
b) Suitcase/storage tote
Under your feet will be your suitcase/tote box, and perhaps a dolly, if you used one to wheel your boxes into the building. It is recommended that your suitcase/tote has a lock on it, as you’ll be leaving inventory overnight. Hopefully no matter what you use, it has wheels of some kind. All this gear gets heavy. If you are not using a wheeled device, make sure to check your pack’s weight as you assemble your supplies. You will have to carry it from the parking garage or bus stop through the convention center, and back out again at the end of the show.
c) Cover cloth
What else is in that box? Your cover cloth. This one is optional, but some artists like having a lightweight cloth to cover their table when the day is done. Something like a vinyl picnic tablecloth works perfectly. The cover cloth helps prevent anyone from accidentally knocking your things over or having things go missing.
d) Business cards
On your side of the table, you ought to have plenty of back up business cards. You’ll have some of these out on the table for passersby to pick up, but this item is the number one thing you’re going to hand out the most of. It’s always better to have too many rather than too few. For a single three day convention, you might need 200+ cards. Make sure your website/online shop is easy to find on your cards. Cute business cards go a long way to making your table memorable long after the con has ended.
Bonus supplies: Here’s a short list of things you might need throughout the weekend to touch up your display. Keep them in a bag and bring them with you every time you table!
Masking and clear tape
Spare paper for impromptu signage
Sharpies and pens
Zip ties
Scissors
3. Money
a) Card reader
The most commonly used card reader is Square, but there are alternatives. Research their fees and prices to determine what fits your needs. You’ll want to get a hold of a card reader and set up your account well in advance of your show. Card readers require wifi/data to work and will only work in your country of business, so take that into consideration when packing for your show. Most convention halls have wifi (sometimes at a cost), but if your show is outdoors you might be relying on data.
b) Cash/change
Cash is king! Make sure to bring enough cash/change for your show. About $25-50 in small bills is usually enough if you’re also accepting card. At the end of the day, consider tucking your big bills away in a secure location in your hotel room. If something were to happen to your bag, you’ll appreciate not having your entire weekend’s earnings in it!
c) Fanny pack
Keeping your cash attached to you at all times is smart. People often use fanny packs or cross body bags to manage their money.
4. Quality of Life
a) Backup battery
Since you may be using your phone to complete transactions, or maybe you’re drawing on your iPad with time to kill, you’ll want to bring a back up battery. Most tables don’t have access to electricity, so having a battery and charging cables is a good idea.
b) Hand sanitizer & masks
One hand sani pump out front and one behind the table. You’ll be handling money, shaking hands with strangers, and touching surfaces that thousands of people have been touching all day. As long as there have been conventions, there have been con plagues. You don’t want to get knocked out with a cold (or worse) so masking is great!
c) Table buddy
If you’re able to, bring a friend to help you table. Cons will often give tablers 2 passes (one for you and one for a friend). They can help you grab coffee or lunch, get change, package a big purchase, cover you for bathroom breaks, etc. Table buddies are truly the unsung heroes of artist alley.
d) No table buddy? No problem.
Check in with con staff and volunteers. Many comic cons will have a green room for artists to take a snack break and decompress, and con staff will help guide you there. Some conventions also enlist volunteers to help sit your table while you’re away. They’ll make sure your table stays in order, direct people to your business cards, and inform curious patrons when to expect you back.
e) Fun stuff!
There will be plenty of downtime. Con hours are long and often slow in the mornings. Bring something to keep you occupied, but not too engrossed, so you can easily pull away to greet customers and fans. Fidget toys, a puzzle book, knitting or crochet project are all great ideas.
f) Get Comfy, Eat Well, Stay Hydrated
Going from your quiet desk to the high octane energy of artist alley can be a shock to the system. Some items to help reduce the fatigue are: noise canceling headphones during downtime and breaks, sunglasses to combat the fluorescent lights and rest your eyes, slippers or comfy shoes for under the table, and layers of clothing. Convention halls can fluctuate temperatures wildly. With lots of AC during the summer, sweaty crowds, and the flow of traffic to your table, you’ll be working up a sweat fulfilling transactions one second then freezing after sitting still for a minute.
Most importantly, have a small cooler with snacks and drinks. You may not get a break, but it’s important to stay hydrated and energized.
—🐝—
The next time you're at a convention, take note of displays that inspire you. #ArtistAlley and #ConTable tags on Instagram or TikTok can connect you with creators sharing their setups. Your table design is an opportunity to be creative and express yourself, while also learning along the way what works for you. Most tables, however, are built up over several convention seasons of trial and error, so while it’s good to take note of others' displays as a source of inspiration, try to keep your first table relatively simple. The more you table, the more you’ll be able to identify your needs for you and your merchandise.
We’ll close out this blog post with one final suggestion. Big, multi-day conventions can be fun, but they can also be expensive. Your tabling supplies and inventory aside, if you’re doing a show away from home, you’ll contend with table fees (often $250-450 USD), hotel, transportation, meals, etc. And not every convention is a good fit for your wares! Small, local events and art festivals are a great, low stakes, relatively cheap (or free) way to start tabling. Check your area for zine fests, queer makers markets, and craft fairs.
Sound off if there’s anything we missed! Good luck on your tabling adventures.

FIRST SUCCESSFUL FEMALE STANDUP COMEDIAN
Loretta Mary Aiken (March 19, 1897 – May 23, 1975), known by her stage name Jackie "Moms" Mabley, was the first successful female standup comedian and had a career that spanned over 50 years. Moms bridged the gap between vaudeville and modern stand up comedy. She was also the first woman comic to be feature at the Apollo theater and Carnegie Hall in 1962.
Moms Mabley was born Loretta Mary Aiken in Brevard, North Carolina, to a large family. She experienced a horrifying, traumatic childhood. Her firefighter father was killed in an explosion when she was 11 and her mother was later hit and killed by a truck on Christmas Day. By the time she was fifteen she had borne two children resulting from sexual assaults: the first by a neighbour when she was twelve, and the second, two years later by a local sheriff. Her stepfather, who had remained her guardian, gave both children up for adoption and then forced Moms to marry a much older man who she despised.
Aiken left home at the age of 14 and pursued a show business career, joining the African-American vaudeville circuit(aka Chitlin' Circuit)as a comedian under the Theatre Owners Booking Association, Fellow performer Jack Mabley became her boyfriend for a short time, and she took on his name, becoming Jackie Mabley, with "Moms" coming from her eventual reputation as a mentoring, mothering spirit.
Moms saw an opportunity to try out her own voice, and discovered that she was a natural at singing, dancing and telling a joke. Especially telling a joke. She realized she had something that many of her contemporaries didn’t - original material. Since her sheltered life had hampered any introduction to current comedy routines, Moms inevitably began to craft authentic pieces based on her own experiences, much of it based on Granny’s pearls of wisdom.
Moms talked to her audience as if they were her children. She delivered superbly solemn routines, original in their time yet amazingly, never bettered. As soon as Moms delivered her opening line “I 'gots' something to tell you...” she immediately captured the attention of everyone in the room - and those rooms were full for over fifty years.
By the early 1920s she had begun to work with the duo Butterbeans & Susie, and eventually became an attraction at the Cotton Club. Mabley entered the world of film and stage as well, working with writer Zora Neale Hurston on the 1931 Broadway show "Fast and Furious: A Colored Revue in 37 Scenes" and taking on a featured role in Paul Robeson's "Emperor Jones" (1933).
Starting in the late 1930s, Mabley became the first woman comedian to be featured at the Apollo, going on to appear on the theater's stage more times than any other performer. She returned to the big screen as well with "The Big Timers" (1945), "Boarding House Blues" (1948), and the musical revue "Killer Diller" (1948), which featured Nat King Cole and Butterfly McQueen.
By the late 1950s Moms Mabley was one of the highest-paid comics in the US, making $10,000 a week. Mabley's standup routines were riotous affairs augmented by the aesthetic she presented as being an older, housedress-clad figure who provided sly commentary on racial bigotry to African-American audiences. Her jokes also pointed towards a lusty zest for younger men.
Mabley began a recording career with her Chess Records debut album "The Funniest Woman Alive," which became gold-certified. Subsequent albums like "Moms Mabley at the Playboy Club," "Moms Mabley at the UN" and "Young Men, Si - Old Men, No" continued to broaden Mabley's reach (she ultimately recorded many albums). She landed spots on some of the top variety shows of the day, including "The Ed Sullivan Show," and graced the stage of Carnegie Hall.
Mabley continued performing in the 1970s. In 1971, she appeared on The Pearl Bailey Show. Later that year, she opened for Ike & Tina Turner at the Greek Theatre and sang a tribute to Louis Armstrong as part of her set.
Mobley had a starring role in the 1974 picture "Amazing Grace," which she was able to complete despite having a heart attack during filming.
Over the course of her life, Mabley had six children: Bonnie, Christine, Charles, and Yvonne Ailey, and two placed for adoption when she was a teenager. She died from heart failure on May 23, 1975, in White Plains, New York.
Actress Clarice Taylor, who portrayed Bill Cosby's mother on "The Cosby Show" and was a major fan of Mabley's work, staged the 1987 play "Moms at the Astor Place Theater, in which she portrayed the trailblazing icon.
Fellow comedian Whoopi Goldberg made her directorial debut with the documentary "Moms Mabley: I Got Somethin' to Tell You, which was presented at the Tribeca Film Festival and aired on HBO in 2013.

FINALLY someone who didn't 100% love BES. I did enjoy some of it but I lean on the "disliked it on the whole" side and it's been so weird seeing everyone praise it to high heavens. I take it that you enjoyed it more than I did (I did not like a lot of the 3D visuals, unfortunately, so the visuals don't really redeem it for me), but I'd love to see some balanced takes from you anyway <3
anon, you're in good company! honestly i've been baffled by the blandly, one-note positive reception to this (30% of my grief has to do with BES's base story, and 70% has to do with uncritical fannish responses), because... to be uncharitable... I have some big problems with its construction. feel free to come off anon and kvetch in my DMs if you want, I'll probably share your sentiments. sorry for how long i've taken to answer this!
to be fair the show does some things right and I think its achievements/innovations in art style and animation are to be lauded; I'm not going to speak over that when I'm not an expert on animation or media theory, but it's a bad sign when praise about any media amounts to "well, it looks pretty" or hinges so heavily on its aesthetics. to be extremely clear this doesn't fully apply to BES, because it does have deft character work, compelling characters, and some impressive cinematic instantiation/inhabitation with its attention to setting and detail -- i was pleasantly surprised by the inclusion of deets like yaki-ire etc etc. -- but even on its purported selling points of japanese historicity and nuanced narratives about race, sexuality, gender, revenge, etc. I think it fails. it has glaring blindspots.
tldr: BES suffers from some (white) american/french narratorial sensibilities that kneecap the full potential of its story
or: BES pinged as an insufferably american and/or ahistorical rendition of its japanese building-blocks to me in some ways
it's probably just a case of misaimed audiences, and This Show Not Being For Me, but I've been baffled by:
how seamlessly some scenes around sex work and brothels and eroticism in this show slide in with orientalist tropes about japan being the Weird Sex and Kinky country despite the japanese-american creator at its helm, who's also spoken out against tropes like that -- until a buddy gave some context that those undertones seem to have been inspired by bande dessinées (french comics) with not-unsimilar tropes that may have been transplanted carelessly into BES by the studio
and this is what I mean by 'american/french' sensibilities -- I don't mean american/french in the most skin-deep representational sense, as in the studio that made it is an american-french one or whatever, as 'representation' is too often conceived on tumblr to be limited to, but on the deeper epistemological level of its worldview, frameworks of sexuality/race, and the cultural terrain it's working off or conversing with. BES includes storylines/arcs/even mawkish dialogue far more reminiscent of those in american cartoons. which is not an issue except of one of taste, but fannish responses holding it up as a groundbreaking commentary on race are orbiting a different universe imo
more egregiously it sustains overtones of that american favourite about the grand, Super Existential! Super Inevitable! and intrinsic clash of Cultures and Civilisations with a big C (a highly discredited idea in critical academic circles now, thankfully, no thanks to samuel p. huntington)
I almost wish the show had maintained a greater separation from IRL analogues or just invented a fresh fantasy universe because why set it in edo-era japan if you're not going to engage with the sociocultural norms, or narratorial traditions of that era
see: literary genres around jitsuroku (revenge narratives), how revenge would have been treated as a tool of sociocultural legitimisation then, the apparent forgettance of the entire history of nanban trade and the fact that japan as a geographical entity was not technically ethnically homogeneous, or only homogeneous from a hegemonic pov, given the existence of the ainu, the kingdom of ryukyu, and northern communities of hokkaido although tbf japan's borders probably didn't include them
i was hoping for an internal critique of or just more nuance about the 'japan = ethnically homogenous' narrative in the show and was more disappointed as it went on -- imo it's a narrative often most stridently parroted by the japanese government for nation-building interests and by others to avoid interrogations of the actual complexity of striations, divisions, etc in japan e.g. with burakumin (lower-'caste'* peoples)
* note: caste is an imperfect and not fully accurate descriptor
a significant part of my ire is reserved for the handling of 'whiteness' in this show although it's mostly hand-wringing over the complexity of intended audiences in this show, which might not be fair to blame on the creators; yes, whiteness is foreign and Other and bad, but what about the material and historical precursors that gave rise to that Otherness in the first place, where are they?; and look! whiteness is demonised; but the cartoon's being released in the USA and europe. it's certainly true that japan is institutionally hostile to foreigners and xenophobic, kudos for depicting the politics of that, but BES's american audiences mean i'm ambivalent about its in-universe premise that what is in fact an oft-fetishised trait in mixed race children (blue eyes) is bad (and the show's aesthetics don't support it; mizu's eyes are portrayed in the most beautiful way possible even though she's diagetically meant to be hideous and monstrous)

Preface
The great thing about Goncharov (1973) fics is that you barely even need to be familiar with the source material to enjoy them and understand what's going on. The film was rediscovered only about a week ago, and the fans have taken to it with an enthusiasm that borders on the deranged and alarming. At the time of posting (26-11-2022) there are over 580 fics on the Archive—when I started this two days ago, there were about 100 fewer.
I've now read well over a hundred fics in this fandom and I've gotta say there are some incredible bangers. The 2022 revival of Goncharov (1973) has clearly sparked a ton of creativity—I lost count of how many author’s notes I saw from people who hadn’t written in years or were posting for the first time. I added at least 20 titles to my list of faves before (agonizingly) needing to narrow it down.
Overall, fics for Goncharov (1973) are more aesthetic and character-driven than plot-focused, so they’re a pleasure to read if you're in a literary mood. I had a ton of fun putting together my moodboards because these stories are all so decadently evocative. And we love tropes in this fandom, so if you're a bit of a film nerd, you might recognize a few motifs from the movie!
Lastly, shoutout to @clockworkspider’s recent post on fic recs in fandom for inspiring me to do this.
These 5 (+1) fics range from 1k–6k words and are non-explicit, but may include canon-typical violence.
1 : A Brief Pause by QueenRiza [ot3] [character study] [canon-compliant] [Katya] [Andrey]
A Brief Pause just squeaked past my 1k word cutoff for this list, but its 1,034 words are absolutely packed with insinuation and exhilarating sexual tension. Reading this felt like biting into a chocolate truffle—so rich and luxurious you only need a little.
This fic is a true OT3 among Goncharov, Katya, and Andrey, and you get a strong sense of the link between each of them. It’s a vignette centred on an exchange between Katya and Andrey, set after the boat scene. Since it’s canon-compliant, don’t expect a happy ending—still, it left me feeling electrified (and honestly, a little hot under the collar). I’m personally obsessed with this OT3 so this one gets top billing from me, though each fic on this list is top-tier in its niche.
CW: [canon-typical violence]
2 : we, so like birds on broken wings (come to warn the sun of thieves) by IdentityConstellations [Katya-centric] [Goncharov/Katya] [canon-compliant] [character study]
A multi-chapter Katya character study? Yes, please! we, so like birds on broken wings follows Katya's perspective on her marriage to Goncharov starting from pre-canon. Its imagery is vivid and striking, and it paints Katya in a softer light than we see in the film.
Although the focus of the story is Katya and Goncharov's relationship, we also get tastes of Goncharov/Andrey and Andrey/Katya, and a whisper of Katya/Sofia. It’s character-focused, introspective, and poignant, offering the reader glimpses of emotion as the plot advances inexorably in the background. It's beautiful in a tragic way—much like Katya herself.
CW: [canon-typical violence] [period-typical sexism] [non-graphic implied murder] [implied infidelity]
3 : what started as a fever by waterandsilver [Sofia-centric] [Goncharov/Katya] [Katya/Sofia]
I never knew how much I needed a fic about grungy 70s lesbian mobsters until I read what started as a fever. A very slight AU that imagines how the story might have gone if Sofia were a member of Goncharov’s crew. To wit: quite differently and yet much the same.
Perhaps some things are inevitable even if you are an incredibly cool, hot, and buff lesbian working for the mob in grungy 1970s Naples and pining for a married bisexual woman. Sofia makes the best of it, and this fic gives a visceral rendition of her side of the story.
CW: [canon-typical violence] [infidelity] [betrayal] [non-explicit mentions of past sex] [lavender marriage]
4 : Coffee O’Clock by Erisah_Mae [Coffee Shop AU] [Goncharov/Katya] [Katya/Sofia]
No fandom is complete without a coffee shop AU, and thankfully Coffee O’Clock has us covered. It might also be considered a “for want of a nail” fic—Katya runs a coffee shop in Naples blissfully unaware that it’s a front for the mob, and Goncharov doesn’t have the heart to tell her.
It features a guest appearance by fan fave Ice Pick Joe and plenty of Italian coffee drink snobbery. It’s a little less serious and evocative than most stories for Goncharov (1973) aim for, but overall it’s an utterly charming read with no bad vibes.
CW: [none]
5 : I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm by jriracha [Modern AU] [ot4] [Goncharov/Andrey] [Katya/Sofia] [Goncharov/Katya] [fluff]
I admit this fandom has a tendency toward very aesthetic angst, and I’m personally guilty of indulgence in the same, but sometimes all you want is a fic where everything is beautiful and nothing hurts. I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm is that fic for Goncharov (1973).
This story is cotton candy fluff, where our four faves play board games and kiss in their cozy apartment. In this AU, there’s no mafia, no betrayal, and lots of love. You will be happy you read this.
CW: [none]
+1 : Real Power by Mortalmab [Ice Pick Joe] [Katya] [strong female character] [no relationships]
It’s simply not possible to put together a list of 5 things in fandom without adding a +1, and Real Power certainly deserves a mention. There are no ships. The main character is Ice Pick Joe.
Ice Pick Joe, a slightly-above-goon-tier mobster, meets Katya and gets a free lesson on power. She doesn’t use an ice pick.
CW: [canon-typical violence] [illness] [asphyxiation] [non-graphic past murder]

My Top 10 Cottagecore/Fairycore Bedroom Decorations
Hey, Pixies!
What typically draws your eyes first when you enter a room? Could it be a set of hanging crystals that illuminate the space with rainbows? Could it be the shelves of dusty books that have taken their readers on memorable adventures to escape reality for even a short amount of time? Well, whatever it could be that draws your eyes first, for me, it's about the feel of the room. The vibe. We want our bedrooms to feel cozy and welcoming and somewhere we can spend our time relaxing. A personal haven.
Without further ado, here's a list of my top 10 cottagecore/fairycore bedroom decorations that I hope you will adore and that will help you create your dreamiest bedroom or whatever space you decide to use them in! All affiliate links are to Amazon for easy breezy shopping because who wants to visit a bunch of random sites to find what you're looking for?

1. Olive Green Duvet Cover Set
Tumblr media
Sure, you might look at this Duvet Cover and think 'What's cottagecore about that?' Well, when setting up a theme of a room, I like to start off with a nice, clean base to work off of. A floral or patterned throw blanket and some cute pillows are a game-changer when you want to dress up your bed. The thing is, if you already have a busy duvet cover, then it's likely going to be a little harder to dress it up without it feeling too overwhelming. If you don't love green, then it comes in other colors as well!
Plus, this color is just my favorite, so I couldn't not include it!
2 & 3. Moss-like Body Pillow Cover & Mushroom Throw Pillows (1, 2, 3)
Tumblr media
Okay, yes, this may be the second green thing in a row on my list, but that doesn't make it any less important! Like I said, let's set that base to work off of! Do you like snuggling up to a body pillow? Even if you don't they are perfect for leaning back on when you're watching tv, browsing Tumblr on your laptop, reading one of those fantasy books to escape reality, whatever it is you do it's far more comfortable when you have something to lean back on!
This body pillow cover looks just like a mossy field and is the perfect base for some mushroom throw pillows to sit in front of. I mean, come on, I can't have a cottagecore list without including something with mushrooms, could I?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's a few options whether you're going for one literally mushroom-shaped, a simple but beautifully done one with cute little mushrooms and other flowers on it, or even one that's a little darker and foresty. I mean, this last one has ferns, and paired with moss that's just screaming 'My bed is a forest floor'. Might even look more dreamy than that meadow scene from the first Twilight movie. Just a thought.
4. Vintage-looking Crochet Throw Blanket
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wrap yourself up or throw this vintage-looking crochet blanket over the foot of your bed and it instantly ups the cozy vibes. It reminds me of one I would find at my grandma's house, one that was handed down to her or one she made as a young woman that will one day be handed down to me. The thought just makes me feel warm and fuzzy.
5. Fairy Lights and Vine Set
Tumblr media
Hang these twinkle lights above your bed, your reading nook, or behind your PC setup for the perfect cozy lighting! Take a walk and find a sturdy branch to hang them from for extra flare! The best part is that the vines are included, so you don't need to buy them separately to create this look.
6. Floral Laundry Basket
Tumblr media
It can be hard to find a laundry basket that actually works for you AND that's cute. This one would perfectly fit into your room's aesthetic and be completely functional at the same! Keep in mind it's on the smaller side so it works better for people who do laundry often. Which, is actually not me at all. I use it as a dry trash bin!
7. Amethyst Moon Sun Catcher
Tumblr media
This dreamy suncatcher brightens your space throughout the day! Sure, for a few hours here and there you'll only get a glisten or a rainbow there, but place it perfectly in your window and whenever the sun hits it your room will look so magical that you might want to buy a second one for another room.
8. Vintage-looking Gold Mirror
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This arched mirror would fit perfectly over a dresser or vanity! Its vintage feel would add to the cozy cottagecore style you're going for and on top of that, it even has a little ledge for your trinkets!
9. Stained Glass Lamps (1, 2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean, are you kidding me?? How cute are these? Honestly, I don't think any further explanation is needed.
10. Vintage Looking Area Rug
Tumblr media
Last, but not least, this worn area rug would pull the room together and makes the room feel just like an old country cottage. This one has an antislip bottom so you won't have to worry about it sliding around on non-carpeted floors if you don't plan on putting it under your bed or other furniture.
That's all Pixies! I hope you all have a wonderful day ♥

Hello everybody!
My names Rory, and I’m back on tumblr for the bajillionth time and rebranding for the bajillionth time (seriously why did I ever leave in the first place, I love yall)
Anyways… here’s my whole spiel about who I am, what I do, etc.
Tumblr media
^^^ where I post from lolz. Anyways, here are the basic stats
Name/what y’all can call me - Rory, Cyber Rory, idk anything else just not any of my old names if you know them
Age - 19
God what else do you put in these OH OMG
Pronouns - irl they/them, online they/it (and ask about neos if interested)
Sexuality/gender identity - i identify as bisexual, abrosexual, and gender-fluid (please do not use he/him or she/her even if I say I feel more masculine/feminine, they/them is always preferred)
What’s my deal - I’m an artist! Previously I never really posted my own stuff, but now I want to start doing that. Obviously I’ll still repost things I like, but it’s not gonna be my whole page lolz. I started taking my art more seriously since I switched my major from marine bio to a double major in art and psych (physics and chem are too hard) I’m currently not in school (I had to withdraw during the middle of my first semester due to mental health issues, but I’m going back this fall! So excited!!)
What kind of art? - glad you asked. Im really into Frutiger aero and cybercore at the moment, so that’s what I usually base my art around, but I really don’t have one set style/“aesthetic” in my art. I go in between Frutiger aero, cybercore, y2k, scene, mizuiro, and basically anything else that I can sneak the color blue in
Tumblr media
Other fun things about me
Music I’m into - I don’t mean to be one of those “oh I’m into everything” kind of people, as it’s not fully true, but it’s true like 90% of the time. My favorite genres right now are metal core, emo, whatever Ayesha erotica, millionaires, and slayyyter are, and ambient instrumentals (more specifically cybercore ambience and the little big planet soundtrack) I will not listen to most country, and pop music is very hit or miss, but other than that I usually like everything else. Specific bands I’m into include bad omens, mcr, motionless in white, spiritbox, and pierce the veil
Shows/Animes I’m into - hot take but I really don’t like to watch tv *gasp* I know I know, but it’s so hard for me to start new shows and keep watching them, especially if episodes are longer than 20-30 mins. Even with anime I have a hard time watching shows that I wasn’t into over a year ago. I’m really into JJK, Haikyuu, Yuri on Ice (rip), the aquatope on white sands, and tbhk
Other things I’m into - just gonna dump them all here lolz. Blues clues, Winnie the Pooh, stuffed animals (NOT squishmallows, hot take sorry) deltarune/undertale, sally face, Fran bow, project sekai (forgot to put vocaloid in music lolz), and the ds and Wii era Nintendo
Tumblr media
ALMOST DONE
I’ll be setting up either a card or a link tree hopefully soon, but I’m also on TikTok (regretfully) and instagram, both are @/cyber.rory13 if y’all are interested. Eventually I hope to open up commissions and/or a sticker and print shop, but for now I’m waiting til I have more traction on my socials as shops cost money, and I’ve been unemployed since October (starting work in may tho!) so I don’t want to make that investment quite yet. Commissions however, I’m open to the idea of them, so if you are interested feel free to message me and we can talk about details there (they will have to be digital or traditional transferred to digital). And finally, the moment like one of y’all has been waiting for, some of my actual art!
Digital
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Traditional
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyways, I hope you all enjoy, my page is a safe place and feel free to reblog really engage anyway if you’d like to be mutuals! Slay queen!!

Magical Girls States
Ever since @greatinternetllama's magical girls but with states post I've been getting ideas here and there about what an AU of that could look like.
I didn't want just the states doing magical girl transformations and fighting the [insert monster of the week here] because it sounded kinda boring. I also wanted some more dramatic fight scenes, so it would be fun if some states were that enemy of the week. With all that, I came up with this.
American Dream: Magical States
NOTE: This is extremely bare bones. I haven't had the motivation or time to fully flesh this out.
It was a pretty normal time in the Statehouse, Florida's being chaotic, the Northeast are this close to brawling, and Gov is trying so very hard to keep things together. However, some states start acting strangely. They're not really paid much mind until, uh oh! Those states have gone to sleep, and nothing anyone does can wake them up!
It's concluded that they're stuck in their dreams, and the states are going to have to go in and get them out. Cue the magical girl transformations and the various reactions to their new duds. Some of them complain about the "girly" clothes, some of them don't really care about that, and some of them are concerned that Florida is now on fire.
Because I'm me, Team Spirit is also included in this AU. However, their magical girl outfits will also include their Spirit. And now everyone can see it in the dream world! They may also be related to whatever special power they get.
In the dream world, they only get one life. Dream immortality is traded for enhanced physical ability and superpowers. If a state dies in the dream, they get kicked out into the real world and can't join back in to continue fighting. Once they go into the dream world, the state can’t be woken up through any external means. The only way they will come back out is if they save all the afflicted people or die trying.
Magical Outfit Motifs
Florida: Traditional magical girl (Weapon - Staff with gator head on top)
Florida has the most traditional look as I'd imagine he'd be the poster boy of the AU. Although, his outfit should look like it could be worn on a hot sunny day or to the beach.
Outfit details: Large sunhat (elevation of bucket hat), large spiked collar with chain, 2-piece bikini and skirt
Colors: White, pink, sky blue. Orange is mainly included in his State Spirit.
The weapon and especially its topper is based on Albert, that white gator plush Ben has. It holds an orange orb in its mouth.
Despite the outfit giving classic magical girl vibes, Florida very much does not fight with any sort of grace.
Louisiana: Victorian French inspired (Weapon - French-style saber)
Compared to Florida's outfit, Loui's silhouette is more sleek as contrast and to be aerodynamic.
Outfit details: Has a heart shaped cleavage window, exposed back, coattails
Colors: Black, yellow, green, purple
Power: Wings, he has very agile flight compared to other states that can go airborne for a bit
The guard of his saber resembles a pelican.
Massachusetts: Revolutionary War inspired garb
New York: Ice skater or royal/mob boss aesthetic
Outfit details: Large coat cape, some crown of sorts
Weapon: Ice skates or studded bat
The ice skater idea came first, but then I wouldn’t get to use a bat as his weapon.
North Carolina: Ghost pirate (Weapon - Six flintlock pistols)
Colors: Black, green, blue
He can summon as many pistols as he wants through the two holster belts strapped across his chest, though only six appear at a time.
Utah: Priest
Outfit details: He has long angel sleeves in the shape of bee wings. His priest garb includes a yellow honeycomb pattern.
Colors: White, yellow, black
Spitballing
I’m trying to give them more specialized powers rather than big ones like firebending or earthbending to make it easier to come up with unique powers for all of them.
The states will probably die off one by one in order to rack up the tension and gradually thin the roster.
As for the states stuck in their dreams, I have California and Nevada as ones I'm sure of. Each region will probably have two states that need saving. Maybe Gov or even DC will need to be saved too.
Nevada: His silver hands now have an infectious property. Anything that he touches with his hands will turn into solid silver that he can manipulate. He can form silver cards to serve as ranged weapons in order to spread the silver further. Nevada will utilize the environment of his casino battleground such as by swinging from his new chandelier or even turning his patrons into silver to use as shields. He will do whatever it takes to win.
California: Not so much a person as they are a force of nature. His golden halo shines bright like the sun and its rays will burn the lands around it indiscriminately. Laser focused light will split the earth and shatter it.
Had this idea of Loui sacrificing himself to protect Florida. Specifically, he gets impaled through that heart-shaped window on his chest. (If you know why a pelican is on the state flag, this symbolism makes more sense.) Before that happened, Florida treated this whole thing like a game, he had superpowers and could now do these awesome moves and kick so much butt. But his best friend sacrificing himself was a cold splash of reality. Florida starts taking this a lot more seriously, and he also combines his staff with Loui's saber to create a scythe weapon. (The gator head bites down on the sword's handle.) He becomes a terrifyingly competent fighter, even more so than before.

this is like, a behind-the-scenes question- but how do you decide on ranks?? like, do you decide to make 'sets' like how you have Crow, Pidgeon, and Dove, so you keep the same number of the 3 ranks? or do you pick a bird/animal/whatever and go based on vibes?? or do you go in with a rank in mind and picks bird based on vibes??
Good question! Sometimes I make sets, and sometimes I pick the animal. See, Exotic birds are quite easy for me to decide on rank due to my experience with them, So I usually decide on the vibe, size (sometimes), usual personality traits, certain biological traits, and if they're a bird that would be considered a predatory, even sometimes media I enjoy can influence how their rank is decided (including au). Appearance plays into my decision but it's mostly the experience I've had with said birds that help me properly decide on it. for example, I own a Cockatiel and a Parrotlet, Parrotlets are smaller than Cockatiels and tend to try and show dominance despite their small size and obvious strength difference, they test even the biggest of birds and tend to be brave to a fault, Yet get scared of the silliest things, Taking in the size, personality of some of these birds and my experience I'd come to the choice of making them Omega ranked. Cockatiels tend to be excitable and playful, they're bigger than parrotlets but are much more...Silly? All birds tend to be silly but My cockatiel is an absolute enigma and makes me laugh, they are sweet but temperamental and it screamed omega to me. for the birds I have not had much experience with I do plenty of research and decide on what I have studied and seen. Swans are seen as elegant, but swans can be very assertive if need be. They're bigger birds and they're protective of their mates and eggs. I also took in the inspiration of "The Swan Lake". I wanted an Alpha designed to look dainty and sweet but have mad protectiveness engrained in them.
Pigeons have always struck me as sweet but spunky birds, they're smart but hold sass, and they're usually seen as less "delicate" than Doves and less "Pretty" (which I think is a lie but I love birds in general). They're strong birds, survive very well, and are often misjudged. they've struck me as a rank beta due to their size, role, and certain personality traits. a lot of how I decide these also comes from gut feelings and I've always been that way. sometimes, I do sets of three when I think of birds that work well and aesthetically mix, Cockatoos and Cockatiels, There will be a third to the set which will be a kind of Cockatoo, Either Galah or Goffin. This is saying, Some different types of existing birdie bitties may actually have different ranks, however, I've yet to delve into that with you folks.
As for non bird bitties? My non-birdie bitties usually are based on how i view them or my understanding of them (just like the birdies) My nectar bitties are the rank they are because of the time spent with Sugar gliders. Hades, my Grillby is actually based on the song "Hey, little Songbird" from the Hadestown musical. it's also takes into consideration the au. It's always made me think of my Au Grillby (at least when I began to remake him), shaping him to be a large figure that fully gave me the vibes of an Alpha, and due to his personality and AU role, it's been what I've chosen. I try to keep the same number of ranks but I get ideas and I have to act on them before I lose the idea. long story short, I am a being of chaos and I have a system to my madness but sometimes I stray from it with the thought of good ideas. There's a way I do things, it's just a crazy one.
I hope this was a good answer, I went on a full ramble.

Assuming I'm nowhere near done with Signalis, I'll give my mid game thoughts on it now
Cool Things
The level design is incredible. Even with the winding rooms and multiple floors, I was never lost. Especially in the area with no map. The landmarks in that area were amazing and I literally never got lost.
The atmosphere is incredible. The lo-fi ps1 aesthetic was absolutely nailed, the ambience is phenomenal (especially in the previously mentioned area with no map), and the sound design is absolutely God-tier
The puzzles are all incredibly unique and varied. Some of my favorites include anything that uses the radio module and doing literal electrical engineering work.
This ties into the aesthetics but I especially want to laud the cosmic horror aspect. Humanity digging too deep and finding some old god that manifests as mounds of red flesh is done to death but the execution of it in Signalis is incredible. Whether or not this is thanks to Elster being unphased by it I've yet to say. My favorite part is that it only affect Replikas (as far as I know), contorting them into zombies.
It makes me feel weird to listen to the threat music and think "I love this groove
Things I don't Like
Starting with the most pressing thing for me: the world building is all over the place to the point where it becomes distracting. Many things are described with German words and phrasing but then literally in the same hallway see Chinese-esque kanji. It would've been much better if only one language was used (preferably German because it really helps give Signalis's world it's own identity) or if a completely new language was made.
Most monsters really feel like they all do the same thing: hobble towards you and swing with just different speeds and models differentiating them. I wish there were more enemies like the Kolibri and Mynah. The Kolibri are probably my favorite in the game because it requires to use a tool that doesn't have limited uses. And speaking of which
The modules should really just be base upgrades and not separate items. Hell I'll concede and say the photo module should be a separate item but a flash light that's mounted on the shoulder? I feel like the scenarios would more dynamic if there were more enemies that required you to uses other tools than gun x, y, and z.
I'll probably get flack for this but the character design is so weak. This game has a terrible case I could barely tell the difference between a Eule, a Storch, an Ara, and a Kolibri. The only stand outs are Elster because she's the protagonist, Alder because he's male, and Mynah because she's actually different with her massive suit and tiny face. The worst part to me is that these were all previously humans, so at the very least their faces would be different but no it's still just spindly thin white woman with hooves. Me and my friends would literally say "the writers barely disguised fetish" whenever any propaganda picture would crop up.
A story can sometimes be too vague. I get that it looks spooky but flashing red text in multiple languages only confuses me, especially when some of it may be important to the plot. If these sequences where replaced with the first person sequences where you walk around
Some slight accessibility options would be nice like: being able to see if an item can be combined with another, highlight important details in text, instantly swap to frequencies with data on them, have all healing items heal instantly
The scene where Elster does maintenance and meets Alina should've been put at the start of the game because the only reason I cared about Alina at all was the fact that I knew before starting that they were a thing and it was funny to yell "HAVE YOU SEEN MY WIFE???" like Marlin searching for Nemo. I can understand merit in keeping Elster's motives unknown until after the first credits roll but there really isn't any other indication that Elster should keep going down other than her really liking jumping down holes she really shouldn't go down.
Signalis is one of the best horror experiences I've had and one of the best games I've played. While it may be too soon to say for sure, Signalis holds the title of 2nd best game with gay people brutalizing each other.

Winter’s Top Five Season Two BMW Episodes
As I did when my favorite podcast reached the end of season one, I decided to list out my top five episodes for season two...
Career Day
My favorite Boy Meets World episodes tend to center around perspective shifts, the ones that oscillate between that of “the boy” – Cory – and the people, the friends and family, that surround him. In this case, in this particular episode, the shifted perspective for a majority of the episode centers on one of my favorite characters – Shawn Hunter. And while it would be unique in that aspect alone, what is special about it, is within the perspective change, is the episode focuses in on what we’ve been dancing around all season (with the exception of the episode titled “Wrong Side of the Tracks”) that this character’s life will no longer serve as a punchline, another means to bring comedy to the storyline or lighten the mood with some self-deprecating comment, but be used to enact the opposite,  to bring a weight to Cory’s life that may not otherwise exist if he wasn’t friends with someone like Shawn.
This episode brings Shawn’s life out from the background – introducing his father for the first time – a character with arguably just as much complexity as his son – mention of his mother and perhaps the turmoil, the conflict that she has been struggling with for more than just this season – bringing forth a boy who would do almost anything to keep his family intact, but is forced to sit and watch it fall apart.
Cory might not have the “cool parent” but he has a parent who cares, he has a parent who listens, he has a parent who stays…
 Home
The result of dedication, rewriting, scratching out ideas, having a light bulb spark of ideas, writing feverishly through the night, centering in on characters that are working, that the audience is embracing, this episode is grounding itself, settling into the grooves of the show, the track that will take this show through five more seasons and beyond in the memories of its viewers.
It includes the parents, the adults, discussing the realities of having to take care of an additional child in their home, unexpectedly, unplanned, remarking on the strain that bares, not just practically, but the emotional toll as well.
Cory and Shawn might be best friends, but they weren’t meant to be brothers.
It also has that similar perspective shift from the previous episode (“Career Day”), letting the audience in on the mental toll it’s taking on Shawn, this kid left abandoned, unwanted.
Feeling alone.
But the greatest gift in this episode, is the opportunity to see through Jonathan’s eyes and how much growth he’s gone through as a character, from wanting to be taken in amongst the environment of the classroom as the “cool” teacher, wanting to impress his students and not be some outdated figure, but a teacher of modern times. And now, after twenty-three episodes, he’s settling into a role that is so much greater than his aspirations – a figure who is offering what Shawn’s parents can’t at the moment: somewhere safe, somewhere stable, somewhere where he can choose to lie his head on a pillow or hang his legs out a window.
 He's offering him a home.
(the greatest gift of all)
 The Uninvited
As was discussed on the pod, this episode builds on the insecurities of both characters, and it does it so beautifully. It draws out what was established in the first season and illustrates the “cool” from the “uncool” – dividing a friendship based on outside aesthetics and assumptions, until the end when all that is put to rest – when the divided line is erased in one of the best final scenes in the series run.
Because it’s never been about either or, this or that, one or the other. It’s never been about the division and what makes Cory and Shawn different, contrasting in their perhaps unlikely friendship. It’s always been about each of them being uniquely themselves – whatever that is – whoever that is – and coming together because of it. Despite the labels. Despite what other people see.
All that matters is who they see in themselves.
Breaking Up is Really Really Hard to Do
I went into this episode thinking “it’s really all about that one scene…” and then the end came, the end that I didn’t remember, the end that wasn’t brutal or spiteful or cruel, but honest and vulnerable and real, and suddenly it wasn’t just about that one scene…it was about a lot more.
Because while we’re kids, we can hardly see the future. We can hardly see tomorrow. We just care about where now can take us. And yet, in this episode, in a long-winded way, Cory learns there are things to look forward to, that you can obtain value in the long term, in the hope of tomorrow, on counting on the future.
The melancholy missing on his face at the end of the episode when that revelation sets in is such a sweet tender moment that I probably didn’t register as a kid, but now as an adult, gosh do I feel that…
   Sister Theresa
When I arrived at this episode in the rewatch, I immediately remembered it. I remembered the arrival of Harley’s (Harvey’s) little sister with affectionate nostalgia and when watching it years later, I realized why. Danielle Harris, the main guest star of the episode, steals the story, taking what would be “another female guest role on a popular sitcom” and making it all her own, plowing through to the front of stage and snatching the spotlight.
I’m with the pod that I really would have liked to have seen so much more of her character, to see how her being a part of the group dynamic would have affected friendships, relationships, school life, family life…
But as they say on the podcast, “first step, time machine…”
 Special Mention…
  Wrong Side of the Tracks
This really is one of my favorite episodes of the series – and rewatching it as an adult – I can see why with the blooming dynamic between Shawn and his teacher, Mr. Turner – a kid who feels lost at every turn he takes, his home life, unbeknownst to the viewer until the final two episodes of the season, crumbling more so than usual, more so than ever before, and a teacher who might see some of himself in the disarray, who wants to make sure this kid doesn’t go down this “other path” just because he thinks he has too – just because his life circumstance somehow dictates he has to. He still has a choice. He still has a say.
It's a great episode, but with all that has come to light through the podcast, I’ll leave it here under special mentions.

— HAPPY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY, WANNABES!
can you believe that one year ago today, we hosted our grand opening event? time has certainly flown by!
first and foremost, we want to thank everyone who has been a member at any point in wannabe’s existence. you are the reason that we have had such an amazing community of writers and kpop fans so far and we have absolutely adored being your admins. there’s been so many amazing characters, plots, and friendships both in-character and out of character on our dashboard and we couldn’t be more proud of the community that we’re creating here. we can’t wait to see what the next year and beyond will bring to wannabe.
if wannabe was a tv show, the conclusion of NEXT GEN was the finale of season one. after a brief break, we’re back and ready to kick off season two! we already have so many fun things planned behind the scenes; different kinds of casting events, more trainee events, and maybe even debuts...? you’ll just have to stick around and see! no events are being announced today, but in the next week or two we should have some fun things coming your way.
as we gear up for the next season of wannabe, we wanted to take this opportunity to make a few updates to our rules as well as a few other behind the scenes updates to share with you all. we have a lot of important announcements under the cut, including a much-requested addition to the directory, so please read on for the full anniversary celebration!
— EVERYONE MAY COLLECT 1 CHANCE TOKEN
that’s right; in honor of our anniversary, we’d like to give a small gift to each of our members! every current muse has one free chance token to use whenever they’d like. the chance token tracker has been updated to give everyone one bonus token. we’re also extending this reward to any new muses who join this wednesday, june 28th.
— GENERAL HOUSEKEEPING UPDATES
we’ve added a new sideblog as an archive for previous themes! this archive will document our growth and aesthetic changes over the last few months and includes special themes like the april fools event.
we’re still accepting moderator applications! please send in your application if you’re interested in helping out with the next season of wannabe.
there was a small mistake in the trainee system page that’s been corrected; we previously neglected to list instruments as a broad category in the list despite it appearing in our sample document.
— RULES & GUIDELINES UPDATES
muns and muses now must both be at least 18 years old to be accepted to this directory. the limit was originally 16. when we were creating this directory, we were admittedly out of touch with the current tumblr krp community after having been distant from it for a few years. the idol progression genre historically had attracted many high school students or even younger muns, but we recognize now that the community has grown up and new young writers haven’t really come in, at least not at the ages when we originally joined the community. the thought process was that we’d rather minors not lie about their ages so we could make sure that everyone was being appropriate and practicing internet safety. we also felt that it’d be even weirder to force a minor to write an adult character, hence allowing younger faceclaims. no one under the age of 18 has ever joined wannabe in the year we’ve been open, therefore we’re enacting this rule and will not allow faceclaims under the age of 18 to be reserved or written here as well.
along the same lines, our aging up/down rules have changed slightly. any faceclaim under the age of 19 cannot have their age changed, nor will we allow a muse over the age of 19 to be aged down any younger than 19 years old. faceclaims who are 18 must be written as 18-year-olds. no faceclaims may be aged down to under the age of 18.
we realized that we never formally added a disclaimer that we reserve the right to reject applications based on past actions or the opinions of our community, so this has been added to the rules as well. we’re not holding a vote every time we receive a new application, but we do monitor the general opinions of our community quietly. certain names have been mentioned frequently by a certain number of members or serious allegations were brought to our attention.
we know this has been a much-anticipated addition, so we’re very excited to announce that we are now allowing 3rd muses at wannabe! in order to reserve and apply for a third muse, you must be active on your current two muses for four consecutive weeks. if you go on hiatus or the warning list on one or both muses during the waiting period, the timer resets.
as we allow third muses, we’ve also added a rule that no mun may claim more than two faceclaims from the same idol group. exceptions may be made in the case of temporary groups (iz*one, wanna one, etc.). we completely understand having a favorite group to write, however we want to encourage a diverse group of faceclaims and also allow opportunities for new members to claim faces from their favorite groups as well.
other small updates and tweaks have been made, so please reread and refamiliarize yourself with the directory rules!

Why (I personally believe that) the Riddler is white supremacist coded
I’ve seen some back and forth over whether or not the Riddler as a character can be interpreted as a white supremacist in The Batman (2022), so I figured I’d expand a bit on why I personally came away with that assessment in my viewing of the film. This is a bit of a character study ramble, because I feel like I need to touch on what I believe the core of Riddler’s persona is to really explain why I believe he’s a supremacist terrorist.
Obviously a lot of this is based on subtext and imagery as well as my own ruminations on the film’s themes, not direct quotes from any member of the cast or crew, so feel free to take this with a grain of salt. Regardless, I think the structure of the Riddler character is pretty overt, especially when paired with Reeves’ and Dano’s words about him.
I really enjoy this take on the Riddler because it is so different from what we’re used to in other Batman media, for the most part. I think Reeves & Dano tooled his character in a way to really benefit the structure of this story and to reflect on societal problems that are prevalent in our modern lives. This character is so effective, I feel, because he is a familiar figure of fear in our culture that we see so often: a passionate extremist with a hateful, selfish motive he twists into a dogmatic ideology that radicalizes others into violence online.
While Riddler has a sympathetic backstory and is absolutely an example of how the lack of social programs causes undue suffering, he’s purposefully an extremist. He employs fear to exact his personal form of justice and it makes him a textbook example of a terrorist. His spree of murders coupled with an entire media campaign would be enough to designate him as such, but his purposeful use of bombs and a small army of enthralled followers fashioned in his own image hammers the point home.
Nashton uses the same tactics we’ve seen from white male terrorists for decades, from the Oklahoma City bombing to the Christchurch Mosque Massacre. Not only were those terrorists motivated by racism and supremacist ideology, they were also stridently anti-establishment just like Nashton. It was hard for me to view the attempted assassination of a Black female political leader by a crew of masked white men in military surplus gear and not draw connections to real world terrorist attacks.
The only other people we know he associates with are his followers, who are apart of a small, radicalize group that watch his social media videos. That structure is so important, I think. Like, yes, the Riddler drew a ton of inspiration from Heath’s depiction of the Joker in the Dark Knight, but there are a lot more connotations to a guy yelling his criminal aspirations into a camera in 2022 than there were in 2008. These days, it's impossible not to watch those scenes and think of the myriad of extremists who used their streaming platforms, social media and/or youtube accounts to publish their hate-filled rants to a forum of sycophantic bigots. The Riddler’s scenes pretty overtly harken to extremists that have been ubiquitous in American news, including incels and alt-right zealots. His final video seems to me to be a direct allegory to the manifestos of killers posted on 4chan. I don’t think a film so purposeful in its aesthetic, themes and character building would have presented those scenes in such a way without recognizing what they would suggest to the viewer.
Let’s not forget either that the character is heavily inspired by the Zodiac Killer, a killer that famously used a cross through a circle – a symbol long appropriated by white nationalists in America as far back as the KKK (once again, a white male extremist in a hooded disguise is always going to have certain connotations in an American film) – as his signature. It may not be the killer’s only motivation for picking the symbol, we probably won’t ever know for sure, but it’s still a connection that’s difficult to ignore. While the Zodiac, like most other serial killers, stuck to his own racial group for his choice of victims (there’s a lot of reasons for this, usually, but I’m not gonna go off on a tangent lmao), he also uses the n-word in one of his letters and mentions how he’s turning his victims into “slaves in the afterlife” several times.
All that, along with the context of his time period in 1960’s San Francisco, makes Zodiac an influence you cannot completely remove from racism. Zodiac may not be as strident an example of a racist criminal as, say, Charles Manson, but I don’t think these details were lost on the crew of The Batman. In fact, I think the theme continues through their use of the neck bomb in DA Colson’s murder.
Nashton’s use of the neck bomb device is directly lifted from a crime that occured in 2003, where a Pennsylvania man -- Brian Wells -- was allegedly a co-conspirator in the bank robbery he committed and was double-crossed by the perpetrators when he realized the bomb wasn’t fake like he’d been lead to believe (that retelling is my take away from the event, fyi, as it is debated whether or not Wells was a duped conspirator or an innocent and unwilling participant). Just like with Colson, the bomb couldn’t be removed from Wells’ neck without activating a fail safe that would cut off his head. Also like Colson, Wells was given detailed instructions on how to get the code to unlock the collar, but authorities failed to remove the bomb before it detonated.
Why is this relevant to my point? While I think The Batman uses this device mostly because it is a shocking, fascinating murder weapon, there’s a detail about the crime that sticks out to me: Wells originally blamed the collar and the bank plot on Black men, to intentionally divert suspicion from the real conspirators he knew were all white. The alleged mastermind of the crime, Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong, also suggested blaming Black people in pre-crime meetings (which Wells may or may not have attended, it isn’t confirmed). The purposeful racist choices of murderers that help make up the inspiration for Nashton’s character absolutely color my interpretation of any underlying biases he may or may not have. Obviously this interpretation isn’t confirmed by any sense of the word, but I think it is reasonable to believe that the Riddler’s persona being inspired by real world racists encourages the audience to assume he may very well be one as well.
Racism isn’t the only tenant of white supremacy, though, and there’s more to the Riddler’s ideology and actions that seem to align with that form of extremist thought. I think his personal conflict as well as his indiscriminate victims both add to why there’s cause to label him a supremacist.
A huge point, I feel, is how Riddler views and depicts Martha Wayne. His expose on the Waynes isn’t just a condemnation of Thomas, but of Martha as well. His loathing of her carries into his snide tone and word choice. Even the retelling of her parents' murder-suicide disregards her trauma. Martha was mentally ill and struggled with her condition, which Riddler assumably believes to be deplorable. The reporter who intends to publish her medical history is called "crusading", like his purpose in exposing her as a mental patient is valiant. Nashton recounts her experience like it is a salacious, dirty thing that is unsuitable for society, just as much a horrific secret as Thomas getting a the reporter killed. He doesn’t outright state that she is lesser for being mentally ill, but his rhetoric and weaponization of her circumstances alludes to ableist eugenics-based ideology that is absolutely championed by white supremacists.
Similarly, Riddler has no regard for Annika’s personhood nor safety when publishing her image. She’s completely unimportant beyond the fact that she is a confirmation of Mayor Mitchell’s poor moral choices and duplicity. She’s just another clue at the connection between Mitchell and Falcone, not a downtrodden person who deserves justice as much as Nashton does. The man is a forensic accountant, a job that is detail-oriented and meticulous, and it reflects in the specificity and planning of his crimes. It certainly must have occurred to Nashton what might happen to the beaten sex worker he exposed, he just didn’t care. Her murder is unremarkable to him.
Riddler is unconcerned with other people in general, since he’s willing to kill hundreds of innocents well after he’s exposed the truth about the Renewal Fund and knocked off all but one of his primary targets. The flood and the attempted massacre show his true purpose is shock, awe and total fear. Gotham’s corruption was just a fine excuse to create something powerful out of himself, so he’d never be ignored or forgotten again.
Sure, he sees and loathes the stark inequality of Gotham’s system. He rages against it. But, in all honesty, I believe it is only because he happened to be one of the people who didn’t get to benefit from that unfair status quo in the way he wanted. He’s not an advocate for the marginalized – in fact he actively harms them – just resentfully fixated on the circumstances he suffered from and obsessed with comparing that experience to the object of his disdain: Bruce Wayne. He delved into the corruption of the city not necessarily because he was investigating the reasons why his orphanage was left to rot, but because he had a chance meeting with the Waynes. He saw a little kid that was essentially just like him – white, male, able-bodied – but when Bruce is orphaned, suddenly only the reasons they’re not alike affect their difference in treatment. Bruce is rich and prestigious, Nashton is not. Those qualities give Bruce power Nashton does not possess, so they are the qualities Nashton demonizes.
If there was no Bruce, Nashton would have still been a neglected orphan, but he likely wouldn’t have had the personal vindictive drive to discover the Renewal Fund’s secrets. Every target of his may be a loathsome, corrupt power figure, but they are all connected to his hatred for Bruce. They're all pinned to his wall, but Bruce dominates the entire center. His mission is personal, based in his private hates and inadequacies, not a bourgeoise uprising. If he cared about anything resembling leftist ideals, he certainly wouldn’t have chosen to bomb the sea walls, as the ones who suffer the worst from such disasters are always the poor and disadvantaged. If he cared about the structural failures behind his suffering, he maybe would do more than turn the old Wayne Orphanage into a private theater occupied by drug-addled, destitute orphans. He doesn't care about orphans, he cares that he is one.
To him, justice isn’t forcing Gotham to change. Justice is forcing Gotham to acknowledge his individual pain to his satisfaction, which means everyone else should feel the pain and fear he’s shouldered since childhood. It doesn’t matter how many die, so long as he is vindicated and legitimized. It’s peak terrorism.
His selfishness, I think, is a key pillar of who he is and why he makes the choices he makes. Dano, in an interview, talks about how Riddler was fixated on questioning “Why Me?” as he lamented his lot in life. He’s a tortured individual focused on his own misfortune, who ends up blaming Gotham’s powerful for his individual situation. He’s a loner, like Bruce and unlike Selina. He doesn’t have a community he’s concerned about uplifting, he wants retribution for himself. Nashton’s only motivations are getting the revenge he feels he deserves, finding his individual power through instilling fear, being “remembered” in a way he never was as a child, and earning the attention/approval from the figure he most admires (Batman).
“Why me?” becomes “Now they will spend their last moments wondering, ‘why them?’”
I see that selfishness in the manifestos of recent terrorists and in the hateful ideology that demands the white man always be given exactly what he proclaims he deserves, everyone else be damned. For me, the way the film frames Riddler’s disregard for others can be read as bigotry. Riddler’s idealization of Batman as a figure he assumes to be just as detached from reality as he read as a particularly white male power fantasy he constructed for himself (this is a subversion of the Batman power fantasy trope that I enjoyed, tbh. The Batman depicts making a fearsome, vengeful god out of Batman is a bad thing). His personality and actions seemed to hint at white nationalist extremism without needing to lampshade it. I love the script for getting so much more across than just what was said overtly.
As a last tangent, I really like the set up in the film of forcing Batman to reckon with himself through the lenses of other characters. Riddler is one of the mirrors held up to reflect Batman back at Bruce, the other being Selina. They both recognize aspects of themselves in Batman and actively seek to engage with those aspects. They’re both inspired by Batman and his power because they’ve been forced to be powerless their whole lives. They both commit crime. They both have murderous intent. However, the things that make them different are why Nashton is repugnant to Bruce and Selina is alluring.
Nashton is a direct contrast to Selina in key ways: he isolates himself and only interacts with others online while she is dedicated to her friend and willing to upend her entire life for her safety, he relishes in the anonymity of his mask and disregards who Batman is without the cowl while she constantly sheds her disguise and ponders just who Bruce might be, his family is never mentioned and never matter while her parents are hugely impactful to her characterization and actions, he gleefully uses murder to exact his revenge while she realizes she doesn’t need to kill to reckon with her personal trauma, his vengeance is destroying Gotham while her vengeance is being able to survive in spite of Gotham.
Selina’s story arc shows just how much Nashton perverts his suffering into a self-righteous excuse to do harm, which in turn allows Bruce to realize how he was unwittingly doing the same. The Batman critiques some of the most frustrating representations of Batman -- as an infallible super soldier, who is so resolute and powerful that he can function as an unstoppable, unquestionable force of his own violent will, beholden to no one -- by giving the Riddler the ultimate revenge fantasy and showing it's inherently destructive.
By the by, I don’t think it’s inconsequential that these two contrasting characters so important to Batman’s development are played by a white man and a biracial Black woman. Media still struggles to circumvent our cultural norms of assuming that every sad, traumatized white guy deserves the best possible interpretation of his choices, no matter how horrific they may be, and that every sad, traumatized Black woman must be unyieldingly strong yet ethically pristine in her actions to be worth empathizing with. Does The Batman have a perfect depiction of its characters and perfect awareness of how race factors into those depictions? Not necessarily, no, but the effort is there.
Ultimately, Riddler is a modern American terrorist archetype. The modern American terrorist is, in his most concise and expected form, a white supremacist.
(Quick sidebar: I doubt it's lost on y'all how differently a 2022 "realistic, gritty" Batman film depicts a terrorist villain compared to, say, a 2012 "realistic, gritty" Batman film did. I do love the Nolan trilogy to pieces, but the change of Bane's entire character into a vaguely Middle Eastern former member of the League of Shadows -- all the while still white-washing the entire League, Jesus Christ -- was a very pointed choice. A decade ago, American prejudice equated terrorism with the Middle East and it isn't surprising that the perception reflected in our media, where we had Talia Al Ghul trying to literally nuke Gotham off the map. Media always takes public anxiety and uses it for horror, as it assumes the audience will already feel intimidated by your villain/monster. Ten years after The Dark Knight Rises, the fear of homegrown American terrorism is much more predominant than it used to be -- even though white extremist violence was always more common place than anti-Muslim bigotry might have some believe -- and we're getting references to that fear in our current Batman antagonist.)
I think that archetype came across very strong in the film’s presentation and it makes him an all the more effective villain, especially for a grounded, realistic Batman film. We recognize the Riddler in the people and movements that scare us in daily life. He’s not an unbelievable, otherworldly monster. He’s sympathetic to a point and his descent into terror mistaken as justice is uncomfortably familiar. To me, it makes him a lot more compelling in a media landscape where we’re used to comic book films featuring superpowered aliens with designs to destroy entire planets rather than reckon with structural inequality and corruption.
Anyway, I hope this overlong drivel helps illuminate why I – and maybe others – consider Riddler to be an unspoken white supremacist character. Even if one might disagree, I think I laid out my thought process where one might at least allow that the interpretation is reasonable enough.

Top 5 Alternative Nightclubs in the UK
Note: this is based entirely on my own experience and I have not been to every nightclub in the UK, alternative or otherwise.
5. The Cathouse - Glasgow
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With three different floors catering to three different alternative styles - some pop-punk, some metal, some guilty pleasures - Cathouse has something for everyone if you're into the alternative and absolutely plenty of space to rock out in. In fact when there's no band performing, the raised stage area in the middle floor just becomes another part of the dancefloor, if you really wanna elevate your experience (ba-dum-dum-tsh).
4. Spiders - Hull
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looking for a touch of the gothic or grungy? Look no further than Hull's premiere rock club, Spiders. Glow in the dark spiders painted on the walls? Check! Metal cages shaped like spider-webs? Check! Metal, hard rock, punk and pop-punk? Check on all counts! But perhaps the most unique and iconic thing Spiders has to offer is it's signature cocktail - the Sweet Death. Containing Vodka, Southern Comfort, Peach Schnapps and Midori, topped up with a lemon and lime mixer, this bright green sweet melon drink comes in a pint glass, and for those who enjoy a good alcoholic drink, it's a must have if you're visiting this club.
3. Rise - Newcastle
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Have you ever wanted to go to rock club that's right next door to a strip club? Rise has got you covered. Similar to Cathouse, it has three main areas, the main dancefloor having well-known alternative anthems, some more metalcore and deep-cuts on the upper floor, and then there's the wonderful outdoor area; far more than a simple smoking zone, the Terrace has plenty of shelter for if it rains, plays many guilty pleasures and classic rock anthems. And another unique drink to offer, at Rise you can get yourself a Firebucket: a Fireball Whiskey based drink which, yes, comes in a literal bucket. This was a frequent haunt of mine during my uni days and I will always remember the euphoria of spending my 23rd birthday here and Bohemian Rhapsody coming on in the Terrace literally the moment I turned 23.
2. The Key Club - Leeds
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This one's the closest to home for me, both metaphorically and literally. It's just, literally the closest to where I live. While I will say I've found Friday nights here to be quite hit-or-miss, I don't think I've ever had a bad Saturday night in this place. It's not the biggest venue, but what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in energy. Frequent occurrences include a spontaneous moshpit opening up beneath the DJ, the entire room bursting into song when Black Parade comes on, and certain people getting absolutely blasted and having an absolute blast (by "certain people" I may or may not mean me.) I'll admit it's not without it's flaws, but it's a place that feels like home to me. I've danced here, I've sung here, I've even bled here - and I'll happily do it all again. Plus, once you've finished screaming your lungs out, right across the road is not only a McDonalds, but also a Taco Bell - and as we all know, they never taste better than right after you've stumbled out of a club at 3am.
1. Satan’s Hollow - Manchester
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So if Key Club is near where I live, and Rise is where I frequented during uni, why does Satan's Hollow take the top spot? Well, simply put, I think it's objectively better. I mean, you want a club that commits to it's aesthetic? Get a load of that great big devil statue looming over the DJ! The main room has a cool raised dancefloor in the middle, playing your more well known alternative anthems, but stay here long enough and the second room will open up! Depending on what day you're going, this will either be the heavier stuff, more metal and metalcore classics, or some golden gems from the pop-punk scene. There's plenty of space inside, 2 bars to get drinks from, the opportunity to mosh in the second room and did I mention how bad-ass that great big devil statue is!? The atmosphere in Satan's is always infectious, and going here is always a treat whenever I'm over in Manchester, so it gets a big thumbs up from me.

movie may RANKED worst to best i think is more fun so let’s go <3 ok there’s only 30 because i didn’t feel like including the comedy special in the ranking. anyway.
30. starting off DEAD LAST NO CONTEST. not another teen movie (day 16 pt 1). it was bad. movie that claims to critique misogynistic tropes in teen movies while upholding a worse more disgusting misogyny. wow. also i didn’t laugh once. however i do think chris evans should have been contained to this genre instead of superhero movies this is literally where he belongs. anyway. movie was bad
29. friday night lights (day 5). listen the show isn’t the best thing ever but truly this movie made it look genuinely groundbreakingly progressive. i don’t really even remember this movie but i remember that it sucked
28. after ever happy (day 15). easily the second worst after movie.
27. all the wilderness (day 27). frankly. i don’t know why i watched this it wasn’t on my list it just has a guy in it. anyway it wasn’t that good but it wasn’t the worst thing i’ve ever seen
26. naked singularity (day 24). movie based on a book i didn’t read and i feel like the book is probably much better and makes way more sense. but john boyega is kinda fine soo…. also my buddy bill skarsgard was there. and olivia cooke. and she was hot. there are worse ways to spend 90 minutes. see number 30.
25. romeo and juliet 2013 (day 17). julian fellowes tries to ruin romeo and juliet. fortunately there was enough slay in the flop that it didn’t suck that bad. my friend benvolio :)
24. the lost girls (day 30). like if the sisterhood of the traveling pants was about wendy darling. and bad. but bad with a Vision. feminism win also. love it when women can’t act
23. three months (day 8). not good but made me cry so. and troye sivan was there
22. 80 for brady (day 11 pt 1). LOVE comedies about old women!! who are WEIRD about that man!! (tom brady). yeah it was as bad as you expect it to be but it was fun <3
21. footloose (day 19). there was so much flop in this movie. and yet there was enough slay to even it out in the end. i loved ren and willard’s gay little dance lesson montage so much…
20. shakespeare in love (day 29 pt 1) if a good movie was bad. if a bad movie was good. yeah
19. the count of monte cristo 2002 (day 22) some would call this movie bad. they’re right of course but also WRONG AS HELL. you had to be there. teenage henry cavill is there and that’s not even the weirdest part
18. merlin’s apprentice (day 13). HATERS will hate this two part three hour miniseries. they did not understand it though. first of all the two romantic leads of this got real life married after they met here and now have three kids. and one of them is meghan ory of abc’s once upon a time fame. so love is real jot that down
17. game night (day 4) FUN movie. and rachel mcadams was there
16. the beguiled (day 18). i liked the part where they killed him :) also i think sofia coppola slayed the aesthetics of this so i will never be watching the original peace and love xoxo
15. murder mystery 2 (day 23). i had SO much fun at the adam sandler jennifer anniston murder mystery sequel….
14. moxie (day 16 pt 2). very good movie for what it is, i think it should be required viewing for all teenage girls. however if you expect it to be really deep and a Perfect representation of feminism… you’re asking too much lmao.
13. the craft (day 3). loved it however i think those girls should have lezzed out wayyyy more also i hated the boyfriend stuff
12. dating amber (day 9). movie made me cry like a little baby so fuck this movie but also yes it was very very good and i WOULD recommend
11. the guernsey literary and potato peel pie society (day 11 pt 2). too many downton abbey actors but it’s pretty good anyway! sad though. however the primary reason i’m ranking it so high is because of how they did the end credits. some movies have a post credits scene, THIS movie has the characters talking and laughing over the credits instead of music it’s so slay seriously watch it it’s so good
10. promising young woman (day 28). well you all were there when i watched this. it was. an experience. some thing i didn’t mention however that i liked was how we never see nina at all but her presence hangs over the entire narrative and informs everything. her seymour slaughterhouse rulez swag. her laura palmer realness
9. palm springs (day 14). it was just cute! and it made me cry. and my buddy was there. can’t divulge more info than that i don’t like to talk about that but. well. always fun to hang with the old pals!
8. cyrano (day 29 pt 2). MASSIVE SLAY. what if there was a movie like 2017 beauty and the beast but it was really actually good and didn’t have an over abundance of cgi. sorry i keep making that comparison it’s just real yk. except that the beast kind of sucks and cyrano would literally never. he’s a feminist
7. not okay (day 12). caroline calloway was in this. the movie about an influencer scammer with depression… also it’s insane
6. crazy rich asians (day 25). yeah i’ve seen this movie before so maybe i shouldn’t have put it in my ranking but i just like it <3 THE movie to watch with your mom this summer! for the 5th year in a row!! god my mom loves this movie, you would not believe…
5. the map of tiny perfect things (day 31). goes so crazy…. like. what if we broke the time loop with love…… holy shit….

3. freaky (day 1). literally an insane slay. whoever thought of this concept needs their shit sucked so serious. sorry for saying that in that way i just really believe in it… and kathryn slayed… and also, and i didn’t even expect him to, vince vaughn slayed really hard as well…. also i loved the love interest boy soooo much he literally wanted to kiss her so bad he did it WHILE SHE WAS IN THE KILLER’S BODY. ok freak.
2. moonrise kingdom (day 21). i loveddddd this one…. this is the only movie may movie i’ve already started rewatching i just want to hang out with it…. i want to eat this movie like a buttery flaky perfect croissant. i also want to swim in it. it’s complicated. i loved it though <3 also it was soooo emma and jules core
