“But the LORD abides forever; He has established His throne for judgment. And He will judge the world in righteousness; He will execute judgment for the peoples with equity. The LORD also will be a stronghold for the oppressed, A stronghold in times of trouble; And those who know Your name will put their trust in You, For You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.” —Psalm 9:7-10
“Your faithfulness continues throughout all generations; You established the earth, and it stands.” —Psalm 119:90
“‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.’” —Jeremiah 29:11
“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” —Romans 8:28
“For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.” —Hebrews 4:15
“Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” —Isaiah 41:10
“God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.” —Psalm 46:1
“God Inspires Our Trust” By In Touch Ministries:
“Our Father in heaven always keeps His promises and never leaves us alone.”
“As far as children can tell, their mom and dad know everything and can do anything. And kids typically don’t question that assumption without reason (for example, if they see a parent mishandle a situation or someone else influences their level of trust). Parents demonstrate reliability by consistently providing shelter, food, and safety—and also by lovingly teaching, comforting, and guiding their sons and daughters. Then the children can sleep in peace, knowing their needs will be met.
Likewise, we know that we can trust our heavenly Father because He has shown Himself trustworthy from the beginning of time. Psalm 119:90 says, “[God’s] faithfulness continues throughout generations.” He has never broken a promise, and His plans for us have always been for our good (Jeremiah 29:11; Romans 8:28). What’s more, God understands our weaknesses and never asks us to do anything that He won’t help us accomplish (Hebrews 4:15; Isaiah 41:10). We can trust that even in the worst situations, He will be with us (Psalm 46:1).
What does trusting God look like in your life this week? Where can you relinquish control to Him?”
[All Bible verses are in the NASB1995 Translation.]

Family Concern Plays Out To: Family Prayer In times such as these Jesus, we do have concerns for our family and we take them to You, Jesus, The Only One Who wears the Victor’s Throne, our Overcomer and our very Present Comfort. Thank You Jesus, we pray for every high thing to come down, every stronghold that affects our family in these dark and lawless times, to be broken by the power of Your…

Worst Trade Ever
We are a sports dominated culture like no culture before us. I include myself. A day isn’t complete for me in the Spring, Summer or Fall without an update on how the Phillies did. Ditto for the Fall and Winter in relation to the Philadelphia Eagles. Both those major sports sometime have so-called “Blockbuster Trades.” So maybe this metaphor makes sense to many. Here’s my version of the worst…

Return, O Israel, to the LORD your God
1 Return, O Israel, / To Jehovah your God, / For you have fallen by your iniquity.
2 Take words with you, / And return to Jehovah; / Say to Him, / Forgive all iniquity, / And take us graciously; / Thus we will render our lips as bulls.
3 Assyria will not save us; / We will not ride upon horses. / Neither will we say again to the work of our hands, Our God! / Because in You the orphan finds compassion.
4 I will heal their apostasy; / I will love them freely; / For My anger has turned away from him.
5 I will be like the dew to Israel; / He will bud like the lily / And will send forth his roots like the trees of Lebanon.
6 His shoots will go forth; / And his splendor will be like that of the olive tree, / And his fragrance, like that of the trees of Lebanon.
7 Those who sit under his shade will return; / They will revive like grain / And will bud like the vine; / His renown will be like the wine of Lebanon.
8 Ephraim says, What have I yet to do with idols? / I respond and look on him. / I am like a green fir tree; / From Me your fruit is found.
9 Who is wise? / Then let him understand these things. / Who is intelligent? Then let him know them. / For the ways of Jehovah are right, / And the righteous will walk in them, / But the transgressors will stumble in them. — Hosea 14 | Recovery Version (REC) The Recovery Version of the Holy Bible © 2009 Living Stream Ministry. Fumito Ueda was inspired by… Gustave Doré's illustrations for La Grande Bible de Tours (1866).
I already knew that Shadow of the Colossus featured things from Genesis - the secret garden with its forbidden fruit (Garden of Eden) and Dormin is Nimrod spelled backwards (Nimrod was killed by Shem who scattered his body parts across the land of Shinar as a warning against idolatry). Is Lord Emon based on Shem? Do Wander's actions that cause Dormin to be resurrected amount to a sort of original sin?
@easternmind identified Gustave Doré's Bible illustrations on Fumito Ueda's shelf in this post, so I had a look at them, particularly the first 41 that are for Genesis and Exodus. The engravings show dramatic, awe-inspiring and destructive scenes in epic landscapes, which describes the look of Shadow of the Colossus pretty well. The ones that jumped out at me though were of Moses in the Bulrushes, and they did so for seeming like a story influence for Ico.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The story from Exodus goes that Pharaoh put out an order for all male Hebrew babies to be drowned in the Nile, so Moses' mother placed him in an ark and concealed it in the bulrushes by the riverbank. The baby was discovered and adopted by Pharaoh's daughter, and raised as an Egyptian. Apparently, there's also a similar story in Genesis that involves Nimrod. Nimrod fears the birth of Abraham who will be his downfall so he too orders the killing of all newborn babies. Nimrod and Pharaoh are both archetypal cruel and persecuting kings with stories that seem to be reworking some of the same ideas. In Ico, the Queen is killing horned boys and where Moses was placed in his little boat by his mother and then retrieved from it by Pharaoh's daughter, Ico is placed in his little boat by the Queen's daughter. Is the Queen killing all horned boys because she believes that Wander’s descendants are dangerous to her? Is Ico perhaps a prophesied saviour archetype, similar to Moses and Abraham? Children are also taken in The Last Guardian where they are a source of energy/power.
I had another look at Jacob Geller's video essay called The Decade-Long Quest For Shadow of the Colossus’ Last Secret and spotted a Doré Bible Illustration for Isaiah called 'The Destruction of Leviathan' that's very reminiscent of Hyrdus.
Tumblr media
I'm sure that many of my observations were made 15 plus years ago by people like Ascadia whose quest to understand Shadow of the Colossus is at the heart of Jacob Geller's video. If you watch the video, make sure you read the pinned comment below it - Ascadia's cousin shares the sad news that Ascadia died very young in 2018. Well done him for doing such good work analysing Ueda's masterpieces.

Acts 5:29 Peter and the other apostles replied: "We must obey God rather than men!"
Isaiah 41:13 For I hold you by your right hand— I, the Lord your God. And I say to you, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.
Acts 5:41 The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name.
James 1:2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.
2 Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.
John 7:38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water.'
May you know that you have an Advocate with the Father, pleading your case, as the Comforter is working in your heart to bring conviction which leads to repentance, which brings hope and restoration. 2 Samuel 14
May you prefer the wisdom of God's righteousness and the reverent obedience of humility which brings beauty in God's sight to your soul, rather than the outward beauty which, for a time, may cover the deformity of a person's prideful and arrogant heart. 2 Samuel 14
May you have the grace from God to discern the insolence behind the words which come from an unrepentant heart, though couched in subservient terms, lest the bitterness it contains come to fruition with great sorrow and pain. 2 Samuel 14
May you trust in God's provision and patiently wait on God's timing to bring to you the things you need for the tasks He assigns, knowing that He will prepare your heart and make you ready, for He will not be so unloving as to give you authority or power before you are matured enough to act responsibly with it. 2 Samuel 15
May you wear the world loosely, not grasping or defending what you have in your hand, clinging only to God in all circumstances, desiring simply that others not suffer when disputes arise, preferring rather to suffer loss and indignities for a time than to bring reproach to the name of the Lord. 2 Samuel 15, 1 Corinthians 6
May you have the same mind in you as did Jesus, Who withdrew when worldly authority would have been thrust upon Him, but stepped forward when His Father's work was at hand, though it meant suffering, which He endured for the joy of the fellowship which would be attained. John 18
May you have, when needed, the Spirit in abundance so that when others do you injury unjustly, you do not respond with passionate resentment, but reason with them redemptively. John 18
I do not allow the proud or arrogant will to stand before Me, My chosen one, for that is rebellion against Me and rejection of the sovereignty of My Son. He, alone, is the One whom I have set over all kings and kingdoms, and given authority over all powers and principalities. For that cause did I cast down the portion of My angelic creation who adhered to and agreed with the aspirations of Lucifer. Though he sang My praise, he desired My place, and the impurity in his heart became evil in his thoughts and rebellion in his hands. My Son lived as a man to bring redemption to men, and those who come to Me through His blood are purged and cleansed, threshed and winnowed, so that no arrogance, no pride, no self-sufficiency will remain. Look to your heart and mind, humbling yourself lest any seed remain to take root and grow, causing harm and loss of the prize that you strive for. It is My mercy and compassion, expressed through My Son, that cleanses the temple before righteous judgment can bring My wrath. Follow My Spirit Who will lead you in the way you must go, for He knows My mind and His leading is true and sure.
May you love God's law and meditate on it all day long, for His commands make you wiser than your enemies, give you more insight than all your teachers, and grant you more understanding than the elders since you keep His promises ever with you, meditate day and night on His ways, and ever obey His precepts. Psalm 119
May you keep your feet from every evil path so that you might obey His word and not depart from His laws, for the Lord Himself has taught you. Psalm 119
May God's word be a lamp to your feet and a light for your path. Psalm 119
May you not stray from God's precepts nor forget His law, though you constantly face attack from the wicked who set a snare for you, for the Lord will preserve your life, just as He has promised, as He accepts the willing praise from your mouth in the midst of your fight. Psalm 119
May your heart be set on keeping God's statutes to the very end for they are your heritage forever and the source of joy to your heart. Psalm 119
May you walk in righteousness and godliness, though you have few possessions and little gain, rather than dishonesty and injustice, though it brings abundant income and much property. Proverbs 16:8
May what you have come to you in righteousness, be held in righteous claim, be used in a righteous manner, be invested in righteous purposes, and attended with a life of righteousness and holiness of Christ. Proverbs 16:8
May your preparation and planning of your journey and purpose give room for God to direct your steps on the way to your destination. Proverbs 16:9

I had so much fun today at the workshop. There were a few girls there that I knew from previous events and even from summer camp, but then I met a couple of new faces too. We practiced setting SMART goals for a long-term goal. Mine was getting into one of my top three picks for university. Then we set medium and short term goals to get the idea of how that works. We also learned about budgeting to meet our financial goals.
I have a savings account that my parents opened for me when I was very little. When I turned 13 last year, I was able to open a teen checking account, so I have access to a debit card now. The workshop was helpful in thinking about how to balance income and expenses in other ways than I had already learned. I think it will be immensely helpful when I'm old enough to have a job and have my license for a car. But an allowance of $14 a week does add up over time.
My parents also presented me today with a bible study for teen girls book. I wanted to get an idea of what it was like, so I did the day 1 reading today along with the reflection questions. I think from now on, I will do the reflection questions at the end of the week. There are 52 weeks in the book. The idea was that I also use that to supplement my Bible course for school. Technically I am supposed to be journaling about the readings, but it is really hard to think of what to write, so I don't do it. My parents thought that having something like this book, even if the readings won't be the same, would give me something to journal about so I'm meeting the credit requirements for the course. I think it is a good idea, and I like having prompts for reflection.
Tasks Completed:
Piano - Practiced for 2 hours in 1 hour split sessions

What I’m Grateful for Today:
I am grateful for the people I met today and the new Bible study book that my parents bought me.
Quote of the Day:
This story is for everyone who has ever wondered if you are enough, just as you are. The answer is yes.

SUBJECT: Praying & Staying Awake

** SAY THIS BEFORE YOU READ; HERE’S SOME CHRISTIAN TRUTHS **
I AM BEAUTIFULLY WONDERFULLY MADE
I AM HONEST
I AM FOCUSED
I AM LOVED
********************************
THOUGHTS:
=======================
I get a lot of emails and messages about how to prevent myself from falling asleep during prayer, and sometimes, this is hard depending on who we are, what we do, and our schedule. Some people need to go to bed early to do morning prayer, and some people need to work on focusing on God more when they pray.
I would tell anyone the best thing to do when you go into prayer is to bring a notebook and pencil and go into prayer looking to hear from God; a lot of people say he’s not going to talk to me, or no, I dont think I need all this stuff, but it's not a lot if you think about it it's so simple, we have to make our selves available so he can access us as long as we are distracted picking up our phones we will have a hard time hearing and remembering what he says to us.
Sometimes, it's hard to stay up during prayer because that’s when the enemy will make us so relaxed or make us feel tired or think about other things. He’ll even make us so relaxed when we fall off to sleep. Sometimes, this is the python spirit we talked about, and sometimes, it's just our body, but everything is spiritual, so we must keep our eyes open and available at all times.
The Bible tells us this: Matthew 26:41: Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
His disciples were available and ready, but the flesh was weak. I dont care how much sleep you get. Your body will find a way to fall asleep, and what I like to do is I will walk as I pray back and forth for about 20 minutes. I will sit down for 20 minutes and back up another 20. I keep doing this until I am done with my hour prayer session; a lot of times, we have to make it where we dont give ourselves no room to fail, and I don't; I ask the Holy Spirit to walk with me, and he does, and we walk together, and I pray until I know, I am satisfied in my spirit to go to sleep or to go about my day depending on what time I'm praying.
The evening is the hardest to pray because by this time, our body is tired, and when we sit, we fall asleep, but if we ask the lord during our prayer session, please give me strength; he will.
Isaiah 40:29: “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
When we are weak, God will give us the strength to make it through. Still, it is up to us to seek and ask him, especially during prayer; we must ensure we are focused on God. We often have to adjust our schedule and change how we do things instead of staying up all night and then trying to pray at 5:00  in the morning. We will fall asleep. We have to make sure we aren't fueling the problem that we are having; that's why we must pray for wisdom and ask God to show us what we can do to be awake during prayer and how we desire to connect, but it's hard to do because we are tired.
Galatians 6:9: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Dont get upset or beat yourself up if you are still falling asleep because you have to keep changing your schedule to fix this problem. As long as you try, the enemy will tell you, well, you dont know what you're doing or what you're doing isn't enough and blah blah, but rebuke him and keep trying each night.
I have had nights when I go into prayer and immediately fall asleep within 10 minutes, but I had to change what I am doing and keep waking up and moving around to keep myself awake. And if you are dedicated and willing, God will be willing to help you meet your needs and help you through this; as we do this, we crucify the flesh. We show the flesh it has no control.
John 15:5  “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing
What we have to do is show our flesh this is what it's doing because sometimes the enemy will do this to keep us from prayer or that we won't crucify your flesh. Still, as we do this, every day, our flesh learns what we want to do and what it will do; it learns what you dont want anymore, and sooner or later, you're praying for hours because you are denying your flesh sleep. Now, I am not saying don’t sleep if your body is tired, go to sleep, but I’m saying on nights or days, you know you are fully rested. Push past the distraction of this trap and pray to God.
***Today, we learned about crucifying our flesh so we can pray. What happens is we allow the enemy to tell us we are tired, and we aren’t. The enemy doesn’t want us to stay connected; he doesn't want us to draw near to God because when we do this, we are turning away from all these fleshly things and allowing God to give us power.
Every day, we must do this; it’s like training a dog to fetch. I had my Lab, and she refused to do it, but every day, I took her outside and played fetch, and after a while, she learned that when I throw the ball, she has to get it. This is like our spiritual life when we teach our flesh that it must submit to the commands of God, and it must do this in the strength of the lord. The flesh won’t look for other things as long as we practice the things we need to keep connected to the true vine because, without the true vine, we can’t do anything. ©Seer~ Prophetess Lee

PRAYER
========================
Heavenly Father, thank you for this word, Father. We would like to be connected with you. We want to learn to pray to you and crucify our flesh. Lord, help us every day to do this. Lord, we submit to you; we ask that you mold us and keep us closer to you. We give you all our weaknesses and our problems; help us not to bow to our flesh; we desire to walk in righteousness, lord the road to the straight and narrow is tough, but we can’t do it without you; we ask you for your guidance, we ask you for your favor and strength as we walk through this life in Jesus Name Amen.
