I think Grian's flavour of clinginess and inability to be separated from Mumbo is my favorite thing ever, because it's basically all built up around the fact that he needs to be ruining Mumbo's day every waking moment of his life or he goes a little bit stir crazy

He needs his proper dose of pestering this one guy he imprinted onto super hard half a decade ago or else he'll get malnourished and die

If Mumbo isn't either exasperatedly repairing whatever redstone Grian ruined or being dragged along by him to cause even greater problems then Grian crumples in on himself and implodes

Sigzai vs skk discourse is insane for number of reasons actually. listen i think sigzai is really cute and shit and i dont mind it at all but you have to have something wrong with you to think both of these actually compete in any way. Original English lyrics to my nemesis the bane of my existence “Aimer” from Roméo et Juliette. My latest breakthrough is without a doubt the counterpart solos; no matter how many improvements I made, I could never come up with decent lines. I do slightly regret not being able to include some ideas like leaving fear behind and love giving meaning to your life (the Hungarian equivalent especially is so nice). But at least with these lyrics I get to have both commentary re: the feud and epic foreshadowing in my non-aria aria, which is nice. What can I say, my English RetJ are expert shade-throwers, 200% done with literally everything, and have slightly feral vibes (canon-compliant, naturally). You guys will tell me if I have completed the assignment. Reblog, like, comment, etc.

MAJOR-ISH EDIT 7/9/23: Tweaked some of the words (the "our" was perhaps too on-the-nose for my tastes). Also decided to replace the Chorus echo of Juliet's verse with an original one à la Hungarian to lessen repetition somewhat and give a sense of ˜progression. If you dislike it, just pretend it's the Juliet verse echo; that works too. Otherwise...not gonna lie, this is looking pretty official; at the very least the B-melody verse is set in stone. Which means, of course, that I will 99.999% change it up even more, lol.

MAJOR EDIT 8/30/23: Aaaaaaaand I’m back, changing things up some more. Surprise! So apparently the lot of you really didn’t like the repetitions…for a famously repetitious song at both the lyrical and melodic level. 😑 Luckily for you lot, I wasn’t satisfied with all the “I”s, so I took this opportunity to switch it to “we” and keep the gerunds. I had to sacrifice some of my internal rhymes (RIP), but I kept the most important stuff re: RetJ rhyming together. Plus, now they refer to each other as the married couple they most certainly are. It’s canonical, folks. Either way, this turned out to be one of my most faithful translations yet.

i really enjoy the understated trend in The Owl House that almost everytime we get a character's flashback to something we saw in a previous episode, the lines are slightly off

it always irks me when in media everyone seems to have photographic memory and latches onto the specific phrasing of whatever was said. TOH sometimes has flashbacks quote the original scene directly, but other times it has them be Just Close Enough that if you yourself probably wouldn't spot the difference unless you were paying close attention; they get the gist of it and maybe some specific turns of phrase that stuck with them, but not necessarily the exact literal wording

i especially like how understated it is. often when showing How The Character Remembers Something as different from how it actually happened, stories have the flashback go very overboard in framing things in ways that are blatantly colored by the character's perception, and while that is in itself usually a fascinating glimpse into how they percieve the world, i really like how realistically Just Subtly Different recollections are in The Owl House

#the owl house #sushi speaks #the ones that stick out most are luzs recollection of the promise to her mom and the collectors rhymes #the former is remembered as being harsher than it actually was because it was those unintentional implications that weighed on her most #and the latter because come on who the hell would remember the specific adlib poetry that a spooky shadow child said. #she remembered the vibes as more overtly sinister because i mean the whole experience was sinister #and she did remember the specific wording of 'nine bright hues' because shes smart and gets the implication that it means the covens #but i enjoy the implication that this extends to other memories we have seen #like. raine and edas meeting probably wasnt EXACTLY like she tells it down to the exact words but it was probably largely accurate #its just that its unreasonable for someone to actually remember Literally Every Word of conversations that happened an hour ago #let alone 30 years ago #and ofc amitys dad sounding far more authoritative in her memories of her parents ordering her to cut off contact with willow #we have no indication alador was ever THAT proactive in curating amitys friendgroup #but he was probably present and he probably did back odalia up on the issue #and because amity looks up to her father she internalized it as it being a decision that came from both of them #and as such in her memories theyre both firmly and decidedly ordering her to stop seeing her

i'm not really one to post snippets but... you know, since i'm unlikely to publish any of this anyway... i was going back through my fics and i am thoroughly charmed by how much i forgot i wrote. in about two minutes i'm going to forget i'm a fine writer and i enjoy my work again but for now i'm riding the high... such is life
