HI HI!!! that’s so exciting you hit 8k! I started following you just before the 7.5k marker and that wasn’t even that long ago!
anyway i’m super excited you always do the best ships, I was wondering if I could get two drabbles with the jealous prompt? one for Shadow and Bone and one for Star Trek (AOS or ENT)? I have no gender preference
a little about me i’m in uni (and like a week behind) I major in Physics and minor in Astronomy, I love engineering and building trinkets and things. I like to image in the grisha verse i’d be a Fabricator inventor either in ketterdam or the little palace. and in star trek i’d be a Science Officer boldly going and all that good stuff. if i’m not in class i’m at my job (a dog training facility) and if i’m not there i’m at a my other job (teaching ballet for ages 3-13) so i’m pretty much never home except to sleep. when I don’t have something to do i get bored quick so i like to keep moving but I love what I do. I’m pretty introverted and I typically don’t talk to people my own age if I can help it. I tend to lose track of time and will actually work on something i’m interested in all night if no one’s there to stop me. i’m also apparently super oblivious to flirts or advance’s cause I think people are just being nice and apparently my being nice back looks like flirting back. and that’s how I ended up dating someone for two weeks without even knowing. I like collecting skills like lock picking or wood working or osteoarchaeology or sewing, just the most random things. I love to read and if I can’t actually hold a book i’ll listen to audio books. i’ve also started mapping stars and making my own planetarium project.
I can’t think of anything else so if you need anything else just let me know! :)
Thank you!~
Also: "and that’s how I ended up dating someone for two weeks without even knowing." WHAT?? lmao that sounds like a moment write out of a fic to me lol
I hope you like them :)
Ships and Drabbles are under the cut~
Shadow and Bone:
I ship you with Inej.
I think Inej would be in awe of your fabricator abilities, and your usefulness and talent outside of being a Grisha. She gets along well with more introverted people, so I think she would be super comfortable and feel safe around you.
Runner Up: Kaz Brekker
'Jealous'
Inej felt a hot burning in her chest as she watched you flirt with the Grisha. She continued to tell herself it was for the job, it wasn't real, you didn't mean it.
She trusted you, but the Grisha that kept moving closer and closer to you with every word? She did not trust.
"Careful Inej" Jesper's voice appeared beside her, making her jump "That jealousy is showing on your face. I'm afraid you might turn green."
"Shut up Jesper." She whispered quickly, her eyes never leaving you.
After a few more painstaking moments, she let out a soft breath as you stepped away from the Grisha after he handed you a slip of paper. She felt the heaviness in her chest start to lift.
Once you reached her, you handed the paper to Jesper who quickly left. Sitting down i the seat beside Inej, you let out a sigh "I'm glad that's over."
Sliding a bit closer so your shoulders were brushing, she slipped her hand into yours underneath the table "That makes two of us."
"How badly did he flirt with you?" She asked after a moment.
"Horribly. I couldn't even understand half the innuendos he was making." You scoffed.
Inej cringed a bit as she glanced back at the man, seeing him looking over at you. She took in a deep breath. "i think we should go before he decides to come talk to you again."
As you looked back over your shoulder, you saw him wink at you and you looked away. "Good idea."
Inej slapped down some money for her and Jesper's drinks before she grasped your hand and led you out of the bar.
As you saw the way she looked back at the man, you smiled softly before teasing lowly "Were you jealous?"
She let out a sot 'Tch' Sound and refused to respond, but you saw a subtle smile cross her face, telling you the answer.

Star Trek ENT:
I ship you with Trip Tucker!
Trip is pretty extroverted, but he is attracted to more introverted types. He loves the sides of you that others don't often get to see. He would also think it was adorable how oblivious you are to flirting, until it was him flirting with you. You'd have a moment of "Are you flirting with me?" "Have been for a month now, thanks for noticing" lmao
Runner Up: Uhura from AOS
'Jealous'
Trip glanced at you a few times as you got ready to leave for your shift. He cleared his throat lightly, "So I saw you hanging out with that new engineer, what's his name, uh- Tyler?"
You looked over at Trip, noting the odd tone in his voice "Toby? Yeah, he's pretty nice."
"Yeah...he seems like a ray of sunshine."
You blinked a couple times before you turned fully towards him "Certainly sounds like you agree" You said with a sarcastic laugh.
Trip smiled softly "No, no, sorry, yeah I'm sure he's cool, he just...seemed to be flirting with you."
"Did he?" You asked, frowning.
"Yeah, of course I knew you wouldn't notice, but I did. He seemed pretty intent on getting you to notice him."
You took a small step closer to him "So you're saying you're jealous?"
He smiled but shook his head "No." He said with an obvious lie "I just don't know him, or trust him to back off."
"Well if it helps, he does know we're dating."
"Did he know that before or after the flirting?"
"When was he flirting?!" You asked bewildered.
"In the cafeteria when you were getting lunch! I went by with Malcolm and I saw you two in there, he was obviously flirting."
You rolled your eyes softly and shook your head. "I think you think anyone who talks to me is flirting at this point."
"Oh trust me, I can tell from a mile away when someone is flirting."
You let out a soft laugh "Yeah sure. But if you must know, it was after that, that I told him we were dating."
Trip nodded his head "How did I come up, did he ask you to hang out or something?"
"No, he did not. We were talking about the movie night and I saw me and my boyfriend were going."
"So he was leading you into asking you out!" He said in an 'AHA' manner.
You let out a sigh "Okay, whatever, but he knows now alright?" You let out a perplexed laugh "Can we drop it now?"
He sighed "Fine, but if I notice him flirting again I'm gonna say something."
You patted his arm as you ushered him from the room, "Yeah yeah, alright."

omg hi could you maybe do a high-school au where you're failing English lit and Tolya is assigned as your tutor and you had no idea he was good at English and just mutual crushing vibes over poetry and maybe he's a jock and you go to his games to cheer him on and yeah...
the song could be Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince by Taylor Swift
Okay, look. Normally I don't do AU stuff, because, so many reasons, but I looked at this request and thought about it, and then I thought about it out loud and it sent me and bestie spiralling so fast into a whole Shadow and Bone High School AU concept, that I kind of, have to write this. I kind of have to, but it will have a lot (A LOT) of AU background info so hold on tight buddy. It may get to the point where you're asking yourself "what happened to the original plot of the movie," and to that I say... Idk.

"My expectations are low," Kaz says, tapping his cane against the table as he passes Zoya, a gentle taunt. Zoya purses her perfect lips and taps her pencil against the table, refusing to take the bait. "But they can always go lower, of course."
"You really think this is an argument you'll win, Brekker?" Zoya asks, turning in her seat to look at him. He smiles, eyes darting to make sure there is no teachers to oversee the devilish smirk, and clasps his spare hand over the one holding the cane.
"Never been in a fight I couldn't," he says. Zoya looks ready to explode. And you can understand why, Kaz never loses Debate, and she was just beginning to think she had the upper hand on him, but he had only wanted her to think that.
"I don't think we need to take this so seriously," says another classmate, "we aren't being supervised."
"I think taking things more seriously when unsupervised is essential to a thriving environment," Kaz is mocking Zoya and she knows it. She wants to do something, and if she let her heated nature get the better of her, she might. But she just folds her arms, and takes in a deep breath. As Head Girl she has to be composed, and as Captain of the cheer squad she has long learnt composure. When Zoya breathes it is like even the air is competing for her attention, she is that kind of beautiful. You glance at her and she has her eyes closed, calming herself. She shouldn't let Brekker get under her skin so easily, but Zoya takes everything very seriously, whereas Kaz gives the illusion of caring about school, all the teachers think he is a perfect student, and his grades suggest as much, but it is more of a game to Kaz. But that would go unnoticed by most, after all, no body tends to look too closely at a boy with a cane. But you don't doubt he is probably the most threatening of all of you. You'd heard a rumour once that he was running a blackmail scheme and that's why his grades were perfect without trying. But you knew Kaz was smarter than he cared to display, and you didn't want to put too much stock in rumours. School is so full of them after all.
You get up as the class empties, and you try not to pay close attention to the way Kaz hovers in the room, awaiting it's empty, you cannot tell if he is waiting for someone or waiting for the silence.
Zoya is headed for cheer practice and you are quick to step out of her way, it is best not to get under her feet at the best of times, yet again when she is fuelled with rage from an argument and especially when she is running late at the expense of losing said argument.
You step to the side to let most of the crowd pass, but as the corridors empty you feel yourself getting confused about where you were going. You catch a glimpse of your science partners leather messenger bag, and watercolour eyes and you nod to yourself, science, you're sure you've got a science next... but which one? Probably Chemistry, you'll settle for Chemistry.
"You're getting all turned around again," comes a voice from behind you. You turn and the familiar face of Inej Ghafa, is closer than you expected it to be. Inej is one of The Dregs like Kaz, you hated that name, but High School will be as High School will be and names like that sort of stuck. They called them The Dregs because they were scholarship students who couldn't afford to be in the school without the scholarship, 'Dregs Of Society' as a senior had not so politely explained to you one day when you were fresh in and dumb enough to ask. You nearly jump out of your skin, seeing here so close to you, without sensing her at all. She has a tendency to do that, so light on her feet, petite and so quiet. You have often wondered if the ability to walk unheard came first or if it was something she had learned from being a gymnast. If the acrobatics came naturally and the silence was learned, you're not sure which would be more impressive. Inej is simply a marvel, her scholarship is based on her gym skills and you would never doubt why, you've never seen someone able to preform with such confidence and prowess as her. But more than that, it's her heart you've noticed most, so quiet and yet so endlessly kind.
"Am I?" you ask her. She nods.
"You have English," she tells you, pointing towards the arts block.
"I have Chemistry," you say quickly but Inej shakes her head.
"No you had Chemistry last semester in this time slot on a Thursday," she corrects you, "now you have English."
You pause, but you realise she is right. You don't bother questioning how she knows that, one of the things you were quick to learn about Inej was she seemed to know everything about everyone, it came with the quietness you guessed, that she can hear and learn everything about everyone while no one even notices she's there. You wonder if that's what Kaz sees in keeping her so close, but then again based on the way the boy looks at her, you'd guess that was something else.
You turn to thank her but she has already disappeared from sight.
You're not late but you are cutting it close when you make your way to your seat. Nina, who you know relatively well from the short time you spent in the drama department last year, at her own coaxing, throws you a smile. "Pass this back to the pretty one?" she asks, handing you a note.
You glance over your shoulder and you don't need to ask who she means, you should have guessed. Matthias is looking even less eager to be in this class than you feel, but you don't blame him. For an exchange student Matthias doesn't seem to be thrilled to be here at all, most of the time, except when he is with Nina, which he is every moment he has the opportunity to be.
Every time you hear him speak it is to tell Nina that something she is doing is improper, and where he grew up that would've never been allowed, and yet every time you see him he is staring at her with a look in his eyes that could make you believe in love all on its own.
"Please?" Nina asks, fluttering those long beautiful eyelashes at you. You've never seen anyone say no to Nina Zenik, it might not be at all possible.
"Of course Nina," you tell her and hand the note back. Matthias frowns, and you can see the thoughts bubbling to the surface. He mumbles something about etiquette and respect for educators and then recognises Nina's handwriting and stops his grumbling.
"I think I am winning him over yet," she grins before turning back to the front of class. Nina was studying to be a nurse, but after a particularly rough semester switched carer plans and now intends to be a mortician, most of her bubbliness has come back to her, but it's clearest enough when she has the blonde in her eyeline, he truly brings out the best in her.
You find yourself tuning out most of the lesson, which you know you shouldn't, your Literature teacher is old enough that you feel like you should be able to get away with not paying attention, but you know she sees everything, and you're more than a little convinced everyone is afraid of her. So you're knocked sick immediately when Miss Morozova asks you to stay behind as the class is finishing up. You hope for a moment you might have misheard her, but her cold eyes on you is confirmation that you didn't.
She beckons you to the desk with a flick of her wrist and you approach, wondering what misstep you took, but she just slides your previous paper across the wood at you, and you see your mark and goose bumps spread through your skin. Fuck.
"You're going to fail," she tells you. She has never had a knack for encouragement or being gentle with her students.
"That is not what I had hoped," you admit. She laughs, it's a cold type of laugh, all apathy and disappointment.
"Not about hope child, it's about application and effort, I am not sure if you're missing the point or if you are not trying to see the point at all, either way you're not getting where you need to be," she shuffles a few papers, "so I have assigned you a tutor, hopefully that should fix your shortcomings, if not you will fail this class."
"A tutor?" you ask, the cold feeling just continues to spread through your body. Please not Zoya, please not Zoya. You don't doubt she is good at it, you've seen the turn around of Zoya's tutoring, but she intimidates you if you're honest and you don't think that is optimal for your learning. "Who?"
"Tolya Yul Bataar," she says, not bothering to look at you, "I have already informed him, the rest he will sort out, you're dismissed."
"Tolya?" you ask. You hadn't thought about it, you know he is in the advanced class, but you'd never given it much thought. Always seen the jock first, which isn't surprising, his education likes to focus on his sports, they treat his twin sister Tamar the same. Their skills making your school highest in competitive sports, it makes the school want to focus on their athletics. But you're a little annoyed at yourself for not even thinking about it.
You've thought about Tolya more than enough to have justified thinking about his academics. But the slight crush you've had on the athlete who stands taller than you can reason and with arms you're convinced could move mountains, you have had time to think about him.
You had lunch with his sister once, just the once. Tamar is nowhere near as tall as her brother, with short cropped hair which is a contrast to Tolya's own, but her strength is just like his, even for her size she is fierce and unrelenting. She looks like she could fuck you up, and you know she has the power behind her to back that up, and she would, and is willing to if the need arises. Her girlfriend Nadia had also been present at that lunch and you'd wanted to talk more than you had. Tamar was a type of brave you often wanted to be, unapologetic in her braveness, equal parts bark and bite.
You don't try asking anymore questions, you're pretty eager to get out the classroom that you walk straight into the corridor, not thinking to look around you, and are met by a leaning Tolya, who is rested up against the notice board beside the door. If normally he makes your heart skip a few beats, seeing him waiting for you nearly makes your heart stop. You tell yourself that's a fear response, but you know you're lying. "Tolya," you say breathing a little too heavily.
"I didn't take you for the flunking English type," he smiles at you, "but then again how well do you know a person?"
You smile, trying to not blush too deeply and give yourself entirely away. "I didn't know I was flunking," you admit.
"That isn't reassuring," he says, but he isn't criticizing you, you know criticism when you see it.
"It wasn't supposed to be."
"I am sure we can fix it up, I am... fond of prose."
You're supposed to be studying Remains by Simon Armitage, but even in his tutoring state, you can tell Tolya is finding the poem just as painful as you are. You don't want to be difficult, you don't mean to be, you're stressed about the fact you're going to flunk English Lit, and you know Tolya wants to help. But this poem is driving your attention elsewhere, and in an attempt to not stare at the large, pretty, tutor doing his best to go through themes with you, you let your eyes wander around the library.
Jesper Fahey, the lean theatre student with the true talent for dramatics in every aspect of his life, right down to the way he is dressed with bejewelled collar pins and matching cufflinks, is leaning over your chemistry partner, giving him that smile you recognise. Jesper has always been a flirt, and he never misses the mark, you've seen him flirt with nearly everyone around, but he only ever gives Wylan those eyes. You'd seen it first the day Wylan has suggested pyrotechnics for one of their next play, the same day Jesper tried to pitch Rocky Horror, they were a strange match, but perfectly matched in their strangeness. You especially liked Wylan, as your partner in the sciences you spent enough time with him to know that he is so smart, the kind of smart that makes your head spin, he could be a scholarship student, but he actually is a Legacy, not that you'd know it by looking at him, or talking to him. He doesn't really talk about his family, and you never pushed, knowing he runs the tech for the drama kids and can make homemade fireworks is a decent amount of know about a person.
"Am I boring you?" Tolya asks, his voice soft.
"No," you chuckle, "but I won't lie Simon Armitage is, maybe to death."
Tolya offers you a chuckle in response. "In honesty, I would like to say there is credit in all poetry, and I think there is, something for everyone, but I am inclined to agree this is no Keats," Tolya concedes.
"Or Wordsworth, or even Larkin," you add. He smiles.
"So you do like poetry?" he asks. You frown.
"Did I leave you with the impression I didn't?" you ask. He tilts his head, and he looks so unreasonably large in that blue library seat that you bite your tongue to not giggle at it.
"I had to read your previous paper to prep," he says, "you made it sound like poetry was the lowest form of art."
"I didn't mean for it to sound like that, maybe that poem," you joke, "but not all poetry."
"So, what poems do you like?" he asks, closing the book.
"What poems do you like, I didn't take you for the type," you give that preconception willingly, hoping to dismiss it quickly, and get his true interests locked into memory in a hope to know him better.
"All muscle and no appreciation for art?" he asks. You shrug.
"I never thought you were only muscle," you say, "you've got height too."
He laughs a little too loud for the library but you're too busy smiling to care. "I like classic poetry, epic prose," he admits.
"Iliad?" you ask. He grins.
"Yeah, Homer is up there," he nods, "also The Cantos."
"Oh is that... Ezra Pound?" you check, genuinely unsure if you're right but the gleam in his eyes tells you that you are before his words do.
You sit for a while, swapping favourites and preferences and you don't hear the sound of the bell ringing, calling you to classes, you just keep listening to Tolya reciting from memory and you think you could listen to that forever.
"I hate to pull you away," comes a voice anyone would recognise. You look up and the resident Lantsov, Nikolai with his puppy grin and sparkling eyes is looking at Tolya, "but you are very late."
Tolya glances at the time, as long in you as you were in him, and gets up a little too quickly. "I lost track of time," he admits.
"I can see that," Nikolai spares you a glance, and smiles back at his friend. Nikolai is charming, charming in all the ways a politician might be without half the deceit and double the bravado. Handsome in the way that he knows he is handsome and leans on it, but doesn't rely on it solely like people as pretty as he often do. But it works for him, and you understand where it comes from. Lantsov is a Legacy student, which gets him a lot of allowances, but his older brother got expelled a few years back and he has been under a lot of pressure to not fuck up like Vasily did. So he goes the extra mile, does the extra work, head boy, and boy scout all in one, just to fix what his brother broke. The new girl Alina is hovering not far behind, Nikolai took a liking to her immediately, she looks lost in this place, she got in on a scholarship for a sport she didn't play and has been trying to juggle everything ever since. But she mostly talks about missing home, she has a boy back at her old school, a boy her heart aches at the absence of. Usually that sort of thing is a lie, but the way she talks about him, you would never doubt, you're not sure of his name, you've heard it once or twice, Hal, Mal maybe, you don't let your mind linger on the thought.
"I have to go, but I promise to meet you here tomorrow?" Tolya asks you, bringing you back to the library and out of your mind.
"I'll be here," you say. You watch the three of them walk away, the twins have been close to Nikolai as long as you've known any of them, thick as thieves and twice as protective of one another. You can admire a friendship like that.
"And the final stanza, ending with that imagery," Tolya is trying so very hard to stay on topic, but you are tapping your fingers across a very old copy of Odyssey and he knows you're trying to pull his attention away, and you know it's working.
"or six-feet-under in desert sand, but near to the knuckle, here and now, his bloody life in my bloody hands," you recite. "I know Tolya, it is ingrained in my mind I promise you."
"If you fail the next essay you won't be stuck with me anymore, you'll be failed," Tolya reminds you.
"I am very aware of my predicament," you straighten up, "fail and well fail, or succeed and be told the tutoring is effective and I must continue to spend these hours with you."
The way you tease him makes him want to forget the studying all together and just keep you in his company for longer, without explanation or reason beyond just wanting you there.
"This is such torture for you, isn't it?" He asks, not meaning a word.
"Not in the slightest," you confess. "My favourite part of the day, and not just because you bring really good snacks."
"I do," he agrees reaching to take a biscuit from the centre of the table. "Are you coming to the game?"
The question strikes you as odd, you have spent weeks with Tolya and you've discussed art and music and poetry at length, but you've avoided talking sports, you thought because he had wanted not to talk about it, but with this question you wonder if maybe you've been negligent in not asking him about that aspect of his life. If you've come across as uninterested in the athletics and dismissive because of it, and that thought fills you with an uncomfortable nervousness.
"I hadn't been planning on," you say slowly, "should I?"
"It's going to be a good game," he says, "a competitive one." You nod, trying to seem more enthusiastic than you're sure how to be about sports. "It's an important game," he admits, "and I would... like to have you there, if you want to come?"
"Are you asking me to come watch your game?" you ask, twiddling your pencil between your fingers. He smiles.
"Yeah, I kind of am," he admits, "is that okay?"
"Yeah," the blush creeps up your neck but has the respect to stay away from your cheeks, weeks alongside Tolya you've had to train yourself to blush more subtly, "I'd like that."
Genya and Nina are both fussing over Zoya in preparation for the game, Genya because she wants to be beautician and it is helpful, Nina because it's her prerogative to get involved wherever she wants to. Seeing Genya and Zoya be so friendly with one another is still a little unnerving, due to a not so friendly rumour about Genya and a teacher Genya had been the subject of a lot of hate from the girls at school. Zoya was among them. But the last year has brought everyone a lot closer, and everyone has become a lot more understanding, and Zoya with the help of Alina went around getting Mr Kirigan fired for his unprofessional behaviour, that which they could prove anyway. Genya weathered the worst of it all, and she never seemed to shake.
"Genya if you do not stop fussing me," Zoya warns her, but it's coming from a softer place than her normal warning tone. Zoya holds a lot of guilt when it comes to Genya, about not defending her, about not believing her, about not protecting her from the rumours.
Even Zoya had her fair share of rumours, the real reason as to why she doesn't date, the way her eyes linger moments too long on a pretty girl in the hallway, but again, you didn't like to put too much stock into rumours.
Genya twirls one of her red tendrils around her hand, trying to keep them off Zoya's long dark hair which she has pulled up into a ponytail. "Can I at least-,"
"No," Zoya says sternly. "David, please come get your girlfriend."
David, the reed thin brunette who rarely understands half of what is going on around him, looks up from the book he is reading, something on geology and metallurgy, to look at Genya who gives him a sweet smile, and he gives her a little wave, not having heard exactly what Zoya said. David and Genya are high school sweethearts, the type that you're not even aware you are rooting for at first, but at some point you realise the happiness of their relationship is the thing you are basing your idea of true love on.
"You're coming tonight right?" Nina asks you, throwing you a look across the room, you hadn't realised she noticed you being there, between trying to keep Genya from trying to colour Zoya's hair and Zoya from trying to kill Genya with a look.
"To the game?" Genya turns her eyes to you and they're glistening with anticipation. "I didn't realise you found your school spirit."
"I was invited," you explain.
"Yeah, by a tree with the muscles of a Saint," Nina quips giving you a wink. "I don't think it's school spirit they've found."
"Tolya?" Genya asks, tone shifting up a pitch with her eagerness.
"Don't say it like that," you say. Genya leans up on her elbows, resting her pretty face over her crossed hands.
"Like what?" she asks.
"Like," you gesture to her in her entirety, "like that, like you think you know something I don't know."
"If your truly flunking Lit, I think we all know something you don't know," Zoya says, "now can we get this show on the road, I cannot and will not be late."
"Ignore her," Nina mouths, "she's just cranky because... well because she is Zoya."
The air is brisk but you don't feel cold as you walk towards the field, you see Brekker underneath the bleachers talking with someone you don't recognise, but you pretend not to see anything.
Wylan has his arms around Jesper's neck in the back of the stands, and he looks less lost and more found. Matthias and Nina are bickering by the food queue about how acceptable sweet toppings are on savoury foods and she is too wrapped up in her fun game of wind up Matthias to see your wave, but you don't mind.
Zoya has corralled the cheerleaders and they're all pretty ready, Alina is staring trying not to get roped into anything as one of the cheerleaders in blue tries to tell her how good cheer is for the spirit.
Nikolai is trying to convince Zoya of something but you're not sure what, but you are at least sure it isn't working.
You are brought out of your people watching by feeling a presence close to your side, you turn your head and Inej is walking in stride. "Tolya is looking for you," she says, and you expect her to disappear into nothing as quickly as she appears, but she doesn't. She is a girl after all, not a ghost.
"When does the game start?" you ask.
"You have time," she assures you. She points south and you follow that guidance, and you see Tamar leaning on the gate, she is talking with some of the other players, and she looks so at home. It would be hard to believe there was a time when Tamar had to argue her way onto the team, given how much she has to offer.
Tamar gets a warning for cursing with enthusiasm and you cannot help but chuckle. If the other team wants a fight, they will definitely find one with her. You're about to ask if someone has seen Tolya when you feel the shadow casting across your shoulder.
"I'll get them back," Tamar is insisting.
"Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much," Tolya quotes, standing beside you. Tamar throws her brother an unamused look.
"Oscar Wilde," you say craning your neck up to look at Tolya. He looks different in his sporting kit, but his hair is still held back the same, and his arms are still exposed to the cold air, just not with rolled up sleeves this time. Looking at him makes you feel cold, and you want to ask him how he isn't.
"You're shivering," he points out.
"I am?" you ask, glancing down at your own body, "I hadn't expected it to be so cold."
"Here," Tolya reaches behind him into a bag and pulls out a jersey, it's for the team and is sporting his number on the back, he hands it to you with one hand. "So you're warm."
You take it slowly, mind racing with the many implications of such a small, kind gesture, and you don't want to jump the gun with this, with him. "Thank you," you manage, slipping the fabric over your shoulders. "I didn't even realise you had one of these."
"Everyone on the team has one," he says.
"No, a jacket," you tease, "you never wear one."
He shrugs. "I don't get cold," he explains, looking around to see how quickly he needs to make his way to the field.
"Then why did you carry it with you?" you ask. The jersey smells like Tolya, from being in his bag you'd guess, and you feel a weight in the side pocket, reaching in you find a small packet of dried mango. You let yourself smile at that.
"I've got to run," he says, "wish me luck?"
"Break a leg," you say, "or is that just something you say for theatre?"
"I'll take it," he says before joining the team.
You'd not given the sports of your school too much thought, but watching Tolya play you must admit you weren't giving the sport aspect much thought even now. You cheer for Tolya, not the game, you're watching Tolya, not the game. If anyone asked you what was happening you're not sure you'd be able to offer more than this name.
If you had any doubts about your schools victory they would have been quickly squashed by the victory cries from Tamar, all fervour and for more expletives than the coach is happy for there to be. She gets a whistle of a warning and a stern look which she just brushes off, letting her brother pull her into a hug.
You are leaning on the fence, which you hadn't noticed until now, with Tolya approaching you. The field is lower set than the stands but Tolya still feels very tall as he gets closer. You can understand why Nina described him as treelike. "Good game," you say. The warmth of his jersey on your skin feeling as secure as that embrace you watched him give Tamar, and it leaves you reaching out for him with eager thoughts and hesitant hands. You tuck them deep into your pockets- his pockets, trying not to give yourself away.
"Thank you," he says, the adrenaline in his smile is dizzying. "Thank you for coming by the way, it means a lot."
"Thank you for inviting me," you say. You want to say more, you want to find the words for this feeling, this gentle buzzing that is sparking between the two of you.
"Ask her you coward," Tamar calls from her place now sat next to Nadia, straddling the bench of a lower section of the bleachers, sharing a milkshake with her girlfriend.
Tolya laughs. "I made a bet with my sister, if we win I had to take that win, and take a risk," he says, and for someone so tall he looks so nervous. "And we won."
"You did," you nod, "quite well I think."
"Really well," he admits, laughter echoing in the spaces between the words.
"So what risk?" you ask, feeling yourself leaning onto your toes, needing to know, feeling your heart pounding in your chest.
"I was wondering if you'd like to see me, outside of school hours?" he asks.
"Like now?" you ask, trying to keep the smile at bay. He tilts his head in a nod.
"Yeah, like now, but maybe more... just us," he says. You feel like you might fall down but you can't help but tease him.
"For studying?" you ask. He can tell you're playing with him.
"No," he says, "not for studying."
"Are you trying to ask me on a date Tolya?"
"I am trying."
"I would like that, I would like that a lot."

DAY 8: KNIFE WIFE: Kanej
Sometimes it's hard to know whether the skills that you've adapted to survive are something to be proud of or not. If they've allowed you to keep going shouldn't they be seen as a badge of honor rather than a mark of shame.
Inej often walks that delicate balance between the two never able to decide which side to fall to if she'd ever lost her footing. The choice will be made later, after she's had enough time to make a proper decision, but for now she lets her newfound skills shine.
Her family can't seem to believe that these abilities she's gained with a knife are real and not some sort of trick. As performers they all know quite well that seeing and believing are two very different things.
Inej hits the target, marked on the trunk of a tree, again and again. One blade after another, slice into the bullseye, until the bark in the center has all been chipped away, and her collection falls to the ground with a clang.
Her parents, cousins, the whole family, take a collective pause before bursting into applause. Her uncle (a former knife thrower) gives her a pat on the back for her dexterity. Her cousin Miri asks with bright eyes if she can teach her how to do that (at 8 years old Inej is inclined to say no).
Everyone appears to take this new talent of hers in stride not questioning the reasons behind it or where it was learned and refined. The adults not wanting to turn the conversation to something unpleasant and untouchable, and the children only knowing the Inej was 'away' and not the circumstances that led to her being gone for so long.
Inej knows that the story is probably something they'd want to know, they don't refrain from letting her talk about her trauma but they don't ask either (save simple 'how are you' interactions). Inej can't blame them, she doesn't, they're there when she needs them but they still don't try to force it, it's something she has grown to appreciate, especially on the rarer growing bad days.
They might not ask for the story, but she can't help but watch it replay in her mind with every throw.
Kaz's dark attic room, an over cast sky, training dummies on the far end, bright splotches of red where their hearts would be.
"If you're going to make yourself useful to me, you need to be able to protect yourself when the time comes."
When he first pressed the handle into her palm she flinched, steeled herself, and tried to focus.
"Think as though its and extension of yourself."
Inej grips it better, making it comfortable in her hold, he doesn't correct her, so it must be sufficent.
"Put the weight behind it when you release."
He circles behind her to correct her stance, fear rises in her throat, being unable to see him, but she's the one holding the knife, and that helps.
"Bend your wrist. Like this."
He stands besides her, curling his own small blade toward his arm. She doesn't know whether him not touching her is for Inej or himself, but a small part of her is grateful.
"Dominant leg first."
She follows.
"Sight the target. Breath in. Pull back. Throw. Out."
She watches his every move filing it away, catalouging it, memorizing. It hits the target, a little right of the center.
"Now you."
His instructions are meager, straight to the point, and somehow, all she needs. She visualizes and follows through. She hits the target almost dead on.
Kaz seems relieved at this, or maybe angry, she can't read his expressions, not yet anyway. But the practice continues, and for the most of it she is near perfect. A natural.
He eyes her as their session ends, calculating something in those cold eyes of his.
"No doubt you'll be deadly with a knife. Wraith."
And no doubt, she is.

If Kaz was the dark of midnight, Inej was the light of sunrise. Where he was all sharp edges and rough echos of anger, she was smooth and soft, like the peaceful noise of early morning.
They danced around each other, never meeting except for when the sun matched the moon on the horizon.
Kaz in the shadows, shrouded by blackness.
 Inej in the light yellows of the sun slowly approaching, a sign of the day ahead.
They both had a place in the world, far from each other's grasp.
Yet they both reflected off the water of the harbor.

ARMOR ; KAZ BREKKER
pairing: kaz brekker x fem!oc
word count: 284
summary: things aren't going well between Alinora and Kaz, it seems like someone needs to end something, but what is it?
warning: nop, probably ooc :))
mari´s note: i had this saved in notes since the second season of sab came out, so I checked and wanted to upload it ;) hope you like it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her relationship with Kaz was very confusing, because he always put a barrier between them. And this is valid, he still has a trauma with Jordie's death, with physical contact and trust issues.
But, she's also human, she's tired of those boundaries; Alynora was tired of Kaz Brekker's armor.
She tried to talk about it with Kaz, obviously it didn't end well; Alynora trying to remove Kaz's armor; and him, putting on a new one. It was a vicious circle, a very tiring one.
After the fights, both ignored the fact that it was unhealthy not to try to improve what they were fighting about. It was something that slowly consumed them, making their mere presence toxic to the other.
The "cheerful" or "enthusiastic" spark of the female was slowly fading away, and she couldn't permit that.
The truth is, like Kaz has his armor, Alynora has one; Ketterdam was a place fully of blood, death, and fights. Everyone tries to get an armor to protect them, for some people, their armor was violence or something else. But she's was different, her little inside kid protects her to the darkest of the city, so she couldn't lose it.
The armor that protects her in the worst moments of her childhood, a childhood who was lived in the streets of Ketterdam, with hungry and danger.
And if save her armor means let go the only love that she has, she would do it. She'll do it over and over again.
 Because her love for Kaz was no greater than her love and appreciation for the "insignificant" thing that kept her alive always.
Maybe in another situation or universe she could be with him, without armors.

I'm soft for Kaz waiting for Inej
I just had this vision that Kaz, on nights when he has nothing that needs to be done urgently, goes to the fifth harbor and stands there looking at the ocean in front. He watches as the waves come at him with fury and shrink into nothing but foam in a hurry to return to the vast blue, promising to come back with a much stronger billow next time. He stands there as the waves, persevering, fail over and over. He stands there until the sun greets the sea with its first tentative rays and leaves before the light becomes blinding. All the while thinking to himself, she did not come tonight. But that doesn't mean he won't wait for her here next time. Or the time after. Or forever.

what is love? if you had asked kaz this earlier, he would've said- love's a con. an emotion used to lure fools who believe there's still some good in the world. a weakness. but now, as he stared at the laughing Suli girl before him, he might just believe otherwise. her smile reminded him of his childhood before it was crushed by the cruelty of humanity. a brother's reassuring hand on his shoulder. the crackling of a fire, bringing warmth in the bitter cold. what is love? his wraith. that was the only love that mattered. she's around him, and he thought he could do anything in the world. he'd be the strongest man. he'd do anything for her. the thought scared him.

Inside job
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kaz Brekker x Fem!reader x Inej Ghafa
This is a drabble? I think, but it’s really freaking short. And there is hint of romance but nothing actually said, but it’s hinted.
Warnings: Shit writing.
Tumblr media
There was only one option, and they knew.
“We can’t get in without some sort of key, or something. Even I know it’s useless to even try to break in without a opening.” Jesper spoke leaning against the table behind him, wylan beside him fiddling with his own shirt buttons.
Kaz knew this job was going to need somone from the inside, The Honeyedpass was not easy to get into. No, he knew the place was well guarded. But still, there was always someway in and luckily he knew exactly what to do.
“That’s why we need someone from the inside, no one gets in or out without someone knowing.” Kaz spoke as the others looked at him puzzled, all excited one. “And who would that be?” Jesper ask with a hint of excitement in his tone.
Inej watched as his gaze feel on her, she knew exactly who he was talking about. A job only she would do because she was no better then the rest of them. But still, this would put her in more danger if anyone were to find out.
“No.” Inej leaned on the table making everyone’s attention snap to her. “There is no one else.” His tone low and stern. “She would be killed without a thought if anyone found out.” The girl stepped closer and glares at him.
“She can handle herself, and we need her to complete this.” They stare into each others eyes to fight for who was right. It was a fight without words or fists, but the others could admit they would be scared if they received the looks.
“I’m sorry but who is “she”?” Jesper interrupted them both to ask the important question.
The smell of the sea water mixed with dead fish and guts. That was the telling of the docks. The smell she found comforting, when she was off duty she wanted to feel like someone normal. So she helps the fisherman unload the boats, or guts the fish, sell them- Anything really. But she was respected. Her first day she put a man in his place for thinking he could touch her. There were more incidence after but now the people there respected her.
A woman never afraid to spill blood.
The woman grunted as she slammed the heavy box into the rest and took a minute to catch her breath. Then the boards beneath her vibrated with footsteps, the sound of a cane, then the last sign is reflections on the water from the corner of her eye. Her lips curled up into a smirk because there was only one group this could be.
“What a pleasant surprise,” she turned around to faces them, “all the crows coming to see me? Oh, how special I am.” Her voice teasing and fake. She looked at the tall man she knew, his face the same as when she last saw, hardened. “What do I owe the pleasure?”
“I’ve got a job for you.” She let out a huffed chuckle and crossed her arms. Her gaze leaving him and then finding the beautiful soft ones she remembered, oh how tempting they were. “Wouldn’t be here if you didn’t.” She looked around at each member standing before her.
“We need a way into The Honeyedpass, and there’s only one way in. Despite your little acted of playing fisherman, you work with the wealthy. Get us in, then secure a way out and your actions will be paid for.” Everyone could see the look he was giving her, the one she was giving back.
There was something more.
The way his even hardened expression was softer, his eyes showing a hint of emotion, or the way his lips moved up with a smirk each time he spoke. Then there was inej, her eyes soft and pleading for you. It was clear she cared for you, so much that she didn’t want you to take the job. Her expression could be called “A kicked puppy” look if Jesper had his say.
“What’s the pay?” You stepped closer to the group with a mischievous glint in your eyes and a tone honeyed. Kaz looked at you and titled his head because he knew how you were. No matter the job, no matter who it’s for, friend or strangers, you never did anything for free. And he loved that about you.
“Name your price.”

DAY 3: POETRY
Wylan didn't mind hosting guests at the mansion, far better then the cold interior he'd become used to growing up. Guest rooms for each of his friends, should they feel like staying past the more reasonable hours of the day, which they often did (especially when someone had to much wine *cough* Nina *cough*)
On occasion he a Jesper would host an illierate street urchin or runaway, in his father's old bedroom nonetheless, just to stick it to the pathetic bastard.
His mother Marya had her own room, on the ground-level, adjacent to the solarium, where she'd spend time reading or painting or simply sitting peacefully gazing into the distance toward the ocean.
He and Jes, had comfortable none-master-bedroom, in the upper back corner of the house, where there had been a nursey once, before he'd grown up in to a father-disappointing member of the Merch Council and a part time demo expert.
Inej had a space in one of the fewer third floor allotments, where she could escape out the window if she so desired, or stay up into the wee hours feeding any birds scavenging the neighborhood.
Kaz hardly ever spent the night anywhere that wasn't his office, signing and loging and shuffling and flipping through paper work efore catching a scant few hours before dawn. But when he did he stayed across from Inej's room. Somehow taking comfort being near even in the event she was out at sea.
Nina and Matthias stayed as close to the kitchen as possible, to curb their healty appetites as well as appeasing their night-owl tendencies. Nina was particularly fond of cooking and eating minature breakfast platters late in the night. Matthias trailing along to brew a cup of tea while she bustled around.
The pair visited often, spliting their time between Ravka and Fjerda and Ketterdam, helping Grisha and changing minds of the more obstinately small mind people.
Nina made sure to always bring back sweaters or snacks or Jesper the latest fashion from Os Alta or Wylan some obscure chemical ingredient for his experiments.
This time it was a red-purple plant only found on the Ravkan-Shu Han border. He had high expectations for the explosions properties it was known for. (Kaz had a small operation planned within the next month that Wylan was determined to make go smoothly).
Wylan headed out back toward his lab, after a suitable lunch of plums and honey-bacon sandwich with avacado.
"Du kommer til en varm region
den er myk og disig
men da vil jeg ikke lenger være meg,
men skogen. " *¹
The distress in Mathhias' voice caused Wylan to pause in confusion, he thought he'd left with Nina and Jes for lunch at the reestablished Crow Club (to bother Kaz she'd explained over breakfast).
"Uhhhh you good Mat?" *² He asked stepping sideways into the open doorway.
"Dritt. Helvete."
Matthias continued his muttering, clearly frustrated with whatever he was reading off the paper in his hand, like Wylan had never spoken, ripping his hand roughly through his blond hair.
"Mat?"
Matthias looked up sharply, startled, at the young Hendricks standing innocently in the doorway, "Wylan?"
"Yes?"
The soldier in front of him never looked more embarassed, his face pinked up to his ears and he turned to hid it. "I thought were working."
"Stopped for lunch. Something wrong?"
The Fjerdan sighed and made a look of resignation before tiredly handing the scrap of paper over to the younger man.
"I was...practicing...for Nina."
Wylan took the paper long enough to make out the discernable scribble of foreign characters before handing it back. "Sooo what is it?"
Matthias redden even more as the realisation came over him that the words were A. in a foreign language Wylan didn't know and B. that Wylan couldn't read them even if the weren't.
"Faen. Sorry I forgot."
Wylan shrugged it off, it would be worse if his friends made a deal of remembering it. Forgetting was a blessing.
"I just...I'm nervous."
"Why?"
He took a moment to collect his thoughts before answering, "In Fjerda, there's always a courtship. What I have with Nina is..unconvential. I thought I might try to give her the experience of a normal courtship." He studies the paper in his hands almost timidly, "I wrote her a poem. I thought I might read it to her over our dinner before we leave again."
Wylan smiled, "Nina will love it I'm sure. She managed to fall in love with you while you both wanted to kill each other, I'm sure a poem good or bad won't damage what the two of you have."
Matthias seemed heartened at this before his face flushed again,"do you think you might listen to me practice? Help me get rid of the nerves?"
Wylan grinned and through himself into a plump armchair across from him. "Do your worst." He sat quiet and patience as the other man pushed his way through the words like a challenging task the he was intent on getting it perfect. When he finished he looked up expectantly.
"Well considering that I have know clue what the hell you just said I think its great."
~~~~
*1: The last stanza of the poem "Assimilation" (translated into Norwegian), by Finnish author Eeva-Liisa Manner I thought it was fitting of Matthias' character
"you will come to a warm region
it is soft and hazy
but then I will no longer be me,
but the forest."
*2: I think Matthias would have eventually grown comfortable enough with the rest of the Crows to except nicknames. Matty by Nina. Mat by Inej and Wylan. Jesper still calls him Matthias. Kaz ofc calls him Helvar.
I used modern Norwegian in place of Fjerdan as it is an incomplete fictional language,
Dritt: Shit
Helvete: Damn it
Faen: Fuck
I know it's like *checks watch* three days after Christmas, but I still wanted to do a little something in honour of the holidays. Especially since all my prior fics haven't been even close to festive at all. These are all just drabbles, so none of these are similar to my usual fics. I just wanted to write a little something for everyone.
I hope you can forgive me for my utterly atrocious timing, and still enjoy this collection of festive drabbles. I love and appreciate all of you so much, loves <333
Cooking - Inej Ghafa x Reader (Drabble)
Pairing: Inej Ghafa x Reader Genre: drabble, fluff Word Count: 944 Warnings: Food, implications of Inej’s past but nothing explicit Summary: Inej lerns how to cook
Tumblr media
I’ve seen a few head canons a while back, that Inej cooks a lot. I want to propose another angle: she wants to but doesn't know how.
She can't find the right spices, and every time she cooks something she lacks basics (like how you add a little salt to cake dough), because nobody ever taught her. After all, those are not things you figure out all on your own. At least not when you’re as young as Inej is. So it never tastes like she wants it to taste, and eventually she gives up because it brings her more disappointment than joy.
You, living in the Slat with the rest of the Crows, notice this of course, and start cooking whenever Inej is hanging out in the kitchen. Trying to encourage her to continue her search for recreating the recipes she saw her mum cook, you always ask her for help.
At first it’s little things, like cutting veggies (she’s good with knives after all). And over time you begin carefully guiding her into trying things herself. It’s small things, little encouragements so she doesn’t realise what you’re doing and won’t hide away from the pain of making mistakes again.
“Can you add a pinch of salt to the soup?”
The first time you ask her this, she looks at you with her deep brown eyes widened, as if she didn’t consider herself capable. But she does it, exactly the way you showed her just the day before yesterday, and you quickly turn away from her, so she doesn’t see your fond smile.
“Try this. Something's missing but I don't know what. What do you think?"
By the time you try holding up the spoon to her lips to let her try a soup you made, she already built some more confidence in the kitchen. Of course, you know what spices are missing, but you want to teach her, and she’s exceptionally good at figuring out what else needs to be added to achieve the usual taste.
Slowly, over several weeks, you build Inej's confidence in her own instincts and taste buds with local Kerch spices that are cheap and easy to come by, so Inej doesn’t start suspecting what you are doing.
Until one day you bring home an array of spices imported from Ravka (very expensive imports, which you may or may not have paid for, but what do you have Kaz for, right). By the time you do this, Inej is already a pretty decent cook when it comes to Kerch dishes.
So when you hand her the box with the different spices – spices she remembers from her childhood, spices she can’t all name, but she knows the texture and taste of each one of them – her eyes light up in something akin to disbelieve and she… promptly kicks you out of her the kitchen.
That night she creates the most amazing dish for the Crows. You swear it tastes like heaven. Sitting around the kitchen table, everyone digging into the delicious food, Inej talks about her childhood. She rarely shares her memories of that time, but as candlelight flickers over all of your faces, Inej sitting so close to you that you are almost tempted to scoot just a bit to the side to sit pressed against her, she tells you of her family. You almost think you can smell the firewood (no, that wasn’t one of Wylan’s experiments gone wrong) and hear the melodies she tells you of.
For hours you sit in the small room, plates long empty, and you all talk about everything and anything. Even Kaz laughs a little bit that night. All thanks to Inej’s wonderful food. Eventually you get up, stiff from the hard, wooden chairs and benches, and together you clean up the pots and dishes, before you bid each other good night, and retire to your rooms. But you already know, taking a last look at Inej through the closing gap in your door, that you’ll see her in just a few minutes again. And you do. She knocks on your door only seconds after the last of the other doors got shut, and you immediately let her in.
The happy smile she had been wearing throughout the night is gone, but you’re not surprised. You know her better than most people after all. Tears rise into her eyes as she thanks you for gifting her the spices that remind her of home. And then she really cries, confesses that she misses her family so much.
You want to hug her, but you don’t, knowing she doesn’t always like to be touched. She thanks you again, this time because you took the time to teach her how to cook, because just as you know her she knows you, and obviously she picked up on your effort. In a burst of courage, which not even she can explain, she quickly leans forward and pecks your lips before embarrassedly escaping into the night through the window without another word. She doesn’t see the way your face heats up, or how you reach out to keep her from running away. And she doesn’t hear how you mumble to yourself about your feelings for her.
In the morning, when she comes down to the kitchen, you're already waiting, a plate with freshly baked waffles sitting on the table for her, arranged in a heart shape and decorated with her favourite fruit. She takes a look at you, then the plate, and looks back to you, you with this small, shy but hopeful smile on your face. That's when she knows that her heart landed true.
Hiya, I'm normally way too anxious to pop into someone's asks but I love the selection of Joel and Tommy Miller fics you have. Do you have any authors you would recommend for either of them and any fics you'd recommend? Thank you <3
Aaaahhhhh! Thank you so much for sending an ask! It means the world to me that you enjoy my carefully curated (not at all) blog. You are so lovely!!
As for recs... I recently responded an ask with outbreak day themed fics, and I wholeheartedly recommend their work. They are amazing writers.
Here you have some more recs.
For authors, a.k.a. please read their entire masterlists:
@ay0nha is just an amazing writer, seriously. Their work is absolutely incredible. I would recommend Dead Man Walking and Violent Delights, Violent Ends, both are Tommy Miller fics that are unbelievable! I am currently in a brain rot over VDVE Tommy, it's so good.
@inej-ruination-ghafa again, because I just love her so much. I am in the process of devouring her entire masterlist. I would recommend Bloody Hands for Tommy Miller, absolutely amazing! As for Joel I would go with Mine it's just so cute, absolutely incredible.
@pedgeitopascal just read her entire masterlist. Please. Vee is an amazing writer, everything she writes is gold. If I had to rec some of her work, I would go with To do the right thing (which she's turning into a full out series and I'm so excited about it) and A safe haven an ongoing series that I love so much. But seriously, go through her entire masterlist, I did, and wow.
@inklore I mean, Laur is a must when talking fic recs. Her work is amazing, she's in hiatus right now, but she has posted some of the most delicious smut I have read in my life, and I say this as a non smut girly. My fav would have to be Folly it has the angsty edge I love. It is part of the wicked game series, and I love it.
@nexusnyx Nyx, the absolute love of my life. Her writing is straight up poetry, I love it. I melt in compliments whenever she posts. My favs from her are the series Journey to Kintsugi, and this drabble, both are for Joel Miller. Again, please check out her entire masterlist.
@kteague have I recc'd them yet? I don't know, but they are astonishing! Their work is art in every single way. My fav has got to be A Future Together, I promise there's the most twisted unexpected twist halfway through the series that'll make you question your life!
@guess-my-next-obsession is absolutely incredible! I would rec Elementary a series set pre outbreak, and all the drabbles she's put out in that universe.
For one-shots or short series, a.k.a. people that I have not yet had the time to read all their work, but they are absolutely amazing:
Tommy Miller
It will come back by @moonlight-prose the softest hottest smut you'll read in your life, I promise. One of the first Tommy fics I read, I think, and it made me fall for the man.
The best thank you by @augustghosts it's domestic, established relationship with Tommy, and it's so cute. Tommy is a little shit sometimes, but that's okay, he makes up for it.
You are the reason by @angsty-twihardxx it's a three part series, and omg did I suffer reading it! Angsty as fuck, and absolutely beautiful, I loved the ending so much.
Apple of my eye by @gtgbabie0 is just so me, you know? It's set in Jackson, and it is just the cutest.
But then I found her by @iraot right so. I cried. A lot. So, I think you should too. That's all I'm gonna say. Please check it out, it's amazing.
Joel Miller
Safe & Sound by @pagesfromthevoid Cress is an amazing writer! And I wholeheartedly recommend all of her work. This is her first Joel Miller series and is just so good? Two chapters out, and I am eating this shit up!
Why She Spared Me by @colonelarr0w spoilers for the game TLO2, so careful, love. But... I sobbed like a baby reading this. It hurt, it broke my heart, it was awful, I loved it.
This one by @forever-rogue wing woman Ellie for the win. Joel being all nervous, Jackson being the safe place it is. It's such a cute and fun read, amazing!
Unexpected by @typingcorgi okay, this one is HOT! But also, soft, it is a lovely relationship between the two of them and I love it so much. I am eagerly waiting for the last part <3
Ughh, I feel like I'm forgetting many talented writers, and I've come back like 20 times already, but that's all I have for now :(
Please if anyone has more recs, do add them! 🫶🏻🩷🫶🏻
Happy reading, love <3
Minor Miracles (2k words, rating: T) - Inej tells Kaz stories from the True Sea; Kaz ponders other miracles--namely, the girl beside him.
see it in your face, i’m relief (2k words, rating: T) -  A moment in the Van Eck garden for Kaz to fall even farther in love with Inej.
secretly, between the shadow and the soul (4k words, rating: T) - In which Inej’s parents are all-too-eager to make Kaz into their son-in-law. Truthfully, he doesn’t much mind.
love is not love which alters when it alteration finds (4k words, rating: T) - Kaz and Inej, celebrating a marriage anniversary.
in hope, yours (4.5k words, rating: T) - Belgium, 1923. Inej and Kaz Rietveld adjust to a changing world and, perhaps, learn to grow something new. Inspired by Whitherward’s brilliant WWI AU, “save the undone years.”
In the Wild Soft Summer Darkness (5k words, rating: T) - As the summer heat scorches in Ketterdam, Kaz and Inej take to Kaz’s childhood home in the countryside. Of course, each of them seems to have a separate scheme afoot; whether to savor the season’s sweetness, or to let it slip away.
let me not to the marriage of true minds admit impediments (5k words, rating: T) -  In which Kaz & Inej negotiate the particularities of a marriage contract—for the tax benefits, of course, but also for the sake of their undying devotion to one another.
and there’s a drawer of my things at your place (6k words, rating: T) -  5 times Inej learns something about Kaz’s living habits + 1 time he learns something about hers.
(and you know that I'd) swing with you for the fences, sit with you in the trenches (6k words, rating: T) - After a week of sleepless nights at sea, Inej returns to Kaz in Ketterdam, but old wounds are hard to heal.
softly sleeping, here in the deep end of someone who loves me (6k words, rating: T) -  5 times Inej sneaks into Kaz’s bed + 1 time she doesn’t.
let me come home (to you) (6k words, rating: T) - Collaboration fic with @alltheworldsinmyhead. Sometimes, the time for hard conversations comes in the middle of the night.
To Give, Then to Receive (6k words, rating: T) -  Three gifts given by Kaz, and one received.
someone to watch over me (7k words,  rating: T) - In which Inej catches one too many eyes while seeking information at a mercher’s soirée, and Kaz can’t help but cut in before the last dance.
Sea Change (16k words, rating: T) - In the months following her departure on the Wraith, Inej comes to learn that the sea is as restless as her own heart. Oceans away in Ketterdam, Kaz cannot help but follow her lead. A story in four parts.
Sea Glass (rating: T, ongoing fic anthology) -  A collection of fics and fragments, short and sweet, centered on Kaz & Inej post-Crooked Kingdom.
the heart heeds helplessly (1k words, rating: M) - In which Inej discovers the romance of poetry and religion, not just in the soul, but in the body as well.
Lingers Sweetly on the Lips (3k words, rating: M) -  A quiet, intimate night in between Kaz and Inej, whatever names they choose to take.
collision course (10k words, rating: M) - Inej adjusts to Kaz the way that winter adjusts to spring: she thaws, and thaws, and thaws—and then she utterly melts. (Bonus drabble: sea to the shore, 375 words, rating: T)
what a mother wants (10k words, rating: M) -  Kaz and Inej are taking their three-year-old daughter to visit the Suli caravans for the first time, and Inej wants what all mothers want: for her child to be happy and safe. It is no surprise that her own mother wants the very same.
what a mother was (62k words, rating: M) - Before she was Inej’s mother, Shanta Ghafa had a mother too. Or: Mama & Papa Ghafa’s love story. Prequel to “what a mother wants,” but can be read as a standalone fic.
Note: some of these fics are only available to read for registered ao3 users, so you have to have an account and be logged in to access them.
Finally, if you’re searching for more kanej/SOC fic, I tag all of my recommendations #fic recs.
