smut (18+) with plot, slow burn, fluff, angst if you squint, happy ending, so much teasing.

you ever seen the 2000 film ‘cast away’? the one with tom hanks and his inanimate volleyball named wilson? yeah, this fic is exactly what that film should’ve been. it largely lacked the existence of namjoon, and the undeniable sexual tension we were denied for a throwing ball.

namjoon’s characterisation in this is unreal. he’s so gentle and tender with his words, yet so rough and unforgiving within the sheets. you almost don’t realise it’s the same person, but am i complaining? not really. quite the contrary actually.

also, i like that it’s very realistic in some aspects. everything they do to survive on an island is exactly what you imagine yourself doing if you were dropped into their shoes, lost and fearful that any moment might just be your last.

though i went through years of scouting myself, i do not feel i am equipped enough to survive on a deserted island with an embarrassingly hot guy i met days prior. but if miss y/n can do it with less experience than i, then o ye of little faith.

i wish i could engrave this fic into my brain so i can read it whenever i please, so i guess i’m just lucky it exists here on tumblr for free. an honour, really.

smut (18+), fluff, humour, slow burn, mild angst/jealously, barista!au, lil bit of yoongi smut.

never mind shakespeare, this fic had me rolling around in my grave. and i’m not even dead.

if you had to choose any piece of advice to take away from this essay, let it be do not read fics like this in public. or in the presence of literally anybody. you will either a) start kicking your legs and squealing, or b) throw your phone and need a moment to compose yourself. learn from me, yes?

min yoongi is the funniest mf in this, especially in the way he teases the reader about not having been laid in a millennium. he makes this fic just an absolute treat to read. and the friendship with seokjin is so incredibly warming. you can feel the fondness they have for each other bursting through the pages (…screen? have i said that before?).

but, undoubtedly, what pulls everything together is the relationship between the reader and jungkook. it starts as toleration, then care, before it blooms into tenderness and finally, love. and you can’t get enough. of them and of the story.

you can’t help but fall in love yourself. definitely worth a read.

smut (18+), fluff, chiropractor!hoseok, patient!reader.

the fact the authors note is, “promise it’s not a cheesy porno,” needs a mention of its own. it made me laugh, and it definitely lived up to that statement. it was better than a cheesy porno.

this fic alone at 7k does what some 20k+ fics fail to do. and that’s a talent, truly. i swear, there were moments i felt as if i was third-wheeling and intruding on something very private and very personal. i probably should’ve walked out that doctors room and left them to it.

i think i’ve said it before, but this is another great example of a good smut laced within a good plot. it was interesting, hooked you in, and left you feeling quite satisfied. content is the word i think i should say.

shame shakespeare never wrote smut, but also not really because we have authors like this who do it better.

fluff, angst, some light smut, slow burn.

this was one of the first fanfics i ever read on this app. and that was what? a few years ago? wow. i’m old.

now, my memory isn’t incredible, but the fact this is one of the few fics i remember reading in a fandom i was unfamiliar to all those years ago, says a lot. about the story, the writing, and the author.

waterloo was like a soft push of the hand that guided me into the world of bts fanfics, and for that, i’m eternally grateful. i’ve never been one to dive into things straight away. i like guidance. i like ease.

so, my dear reader, if you have any friends who’re just getting into tumblr fics about bts and need that sturdy push, i solely advise you recommend this to them. but if not, this is a great fic to read otherwise.

it’s angsty, it’s cheesy, it’s cute, and it’s memorable. who doesn’t love an art prology taehyung? people who’re boring, that’s who.

greek god au, hades!reader, thanatos!hoseok, persephone!yoongi, smut, fluff, angst, violence.

anyone else go through a greek god phase? i consumed all those stories like they were my breakfast. and as you would have it, my favourite to read about was the story of hades and persephone, also known as the coming of spring and winter.

this fic is genuinely so addictive and it really knocks the tag ‘greek god!au’ out the park. it does an amazing job of representing the story we all know and love, while adding some adaptations of its own, giving the story a unique twist.

i would happily write a five thousand word essay on how much i adore bangtan as greek gods, but i fear what would become of me if i did. so i shall not. for both my sake and yours.

as shakespeare never said, but lady gaga did: talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique.. etc.

and yoongi, for heavens sake, no pomegranates!

one of the reasons why i created this series is so i can do one of my favourite things ever: share what i love. i think there something so beautiful in the art of spreading appreciation. and usually, my friends were the ones who had to listen to these essays before you did, sweet reader. and this fic was one of those i didn’t shut up about.

by the end of my rant about this series, i don’t think they even needed to read it. i’d done it for them simply by talking. which is why, i will keep this short and simple. so i don’t do the same for you.

this series is so well thought out. every little detail, every hurdle in the road, every step seems to have been thought of before hand and it makes the journey that much more gripping. so, kudos to the author for that. extra brownie points.

every member has their role, their part, their moment in the story and they’re all indefinitely important and make up a team. alike bangtan, they’re all needed in order to make the ship work. without one, it’d be going down and they’d all be yelling timber. (love that song).

teamwork makes the dream work, people.

the fact this fic was almost called ‘jimin and the fucking peach’ after james and the giant peach deserves extra credit for the absolute monstrosity of a laugh that escaped my mouth after reading that. a missed opportunity, truly.

honestly, jimin and his actions within this fic desperately need examining by a team of scientists in the study of inane methods to get someone’s attention because, and excuse my french, fuck me.

shakespeare was definitely giggling reading this. perhaps even kicking his legs. love that for him.

but, according to the key i put down for this fic, i also think we broke him. understandable, mate. same here. i’ll never be the same.

college!au, roommates!au, fluff, smut (18+).

the absolute audacity.

the reader really has the gall to sit and complain about what unfortunate circumstances she’s in, all the while she’s stuck with the jeon jungkook of all people. i cannot deal. i wish my quarantine trapped me inside with one of the hottest men on the planet.

apart from that, how can you not love this fic? rhetorical question, dear reader. you can’t.

the undeniable sexual tension that lingers throughout the entirety of this story builds up, like lego pieces on top of one another, until it finally falls and breaks into two. and you can’t reject the satisfaction of it all.

i was lucky enough to have read this two years ago (three now as i’m writing this) while we were actively going through lockdown, and it does an amazing job of describing everything we were all feeling during that time. bored, worried, confused, lonely, frustrated, and horny (…just saying).

it made things a bit more bearable. and it’s got shirtless jungkook.

believe me when i say i was grinning like an idiot the whole time reading this, with my cheeks lightly aching. with this app filled to the brim with angst and heavier stories, this fic was like a breath of fresh air. a warm, hearty homemade meal after a rough day out in the merciless world.

if you’re in need of a hug but aren’t the physical touch kind of person, the solution is right here, my friend. this fic will rejuvenate your system and make you feel a whole lot better. believe me.

also, can i just say. the author made an impeccable job of leaving me even pickier about attributes of my future spouse than what i started with. like, how am i supposed to explain to someone i want a partner just like this exact, specific version of yoongi? like. i mean this one. all i’ll say is it proves difficult.

@joonary is the shakespeare we needed. instead he wrote romances disguised as tragedies where both parties die at the end. what the fuck.

is anyone else surprised @taleasnewastime is here again? ‘cause i’m not. her work is next level (naevis? is that you?). and i’m not ashamed to say i stalked the entirety of her masterlist after this masterpiece. hint, hint, nudge, nudge, people.

the chemistry etched within this fic is off the charts. everything is there. the banter, the tenderness, the angst, the longing to accept love, the grief. all wrapped into a bundle and gifted with a side of heartache and woe.

we all need a person like seokjin’s character in our lives. someone who lifts us from dark times and (re: figuratively) throws us into the light. i fear helps might be a better option of wording. am i right?

this story dragged my hopeless romantic ass on a one-way skydive to pain. and that’s without a parachute. it was more of a free fall, really.

and i’d most definitely do it again.

it’s got the christmas spirit. the jolly music, the beautiful lights, the festive mood. and it’s got namjoon. it’s got namjoon, people! if that’s not tying the knot, then i don’t know what is.

in all seriousness though, i religiously come back to this fic whenever the holidays hit and the radios all over the uk start charting mariah carey and wham!. and it’ll cure any holiday blues.

“boy, i, boy, i, boy, i know, i know you got the feels.” the feels, twice. literally the first song that came to mind when i finished this fic. and twice never lie.

unpopular opinion (i think?), i’m a sucker for when y/n is petty in fanfics. i love a good revenge story, especially when it’s rightfully deserved, pristinely plated and justly served. you know, all classy like. and this had all that in the bag.

the relationship in this fanfic was so respectful and i loved that. they considered each other’s feelings towards what they were getting into, so that gets a gold star for communication and consideration from me. yass healthy relationship!

shakespeare cannot relate. hence why he’s tagged under ‘hasn’t moved in a while.’ he’s flabbergasted such things exist. since he killed one of the parties in the only healthy relationship he ever wrote. like, bro?

an amazing story yet again from @hansolmates if you’re in need of that satisfaction. (not like that you pervs. i meant revenge).

By the way guys, my Japanese friend that helps me with translation stuff said that I should rephrase Angeal’s statement about Sephiroth being his best friend a little bit so that you all understand how poignant it really was.

Angeal really did say, “Sephiroth is my best/close friend…now and always/forever.”

I think it’s relevant for this next chapter where he is determined to save Sephiroth. Angeal doesn’t see Seph as his old friend, but his very present, eternal companion that is simply not himself.

Obviously, this Dissidia content is AU, as you have pointed out, but the characterizations are what matter, yes? Now we know that the writers truly meant for the Crisis Core trio to be a ring of very reciprocal and intimate love—albeit with division that sprouted from tragedy.

Regardless, Angeal still sees Sephiroth as his ever-present friend and now we see that had he survived in canon, he would have fought to the bitter end to bring Sephiroth back.

While Opera Omnia is definitely AU, I still find the characterization completely relevant. And this says a lot about how much Angeal really cared for Seph, even if we didn't get to see it in CC. It's very tragic that Sephiroth essentially threw everything away for an entity that amounts to an inanimate object, when there were people in his life who DID love him. He just...lost them. And believed they never loved him to begin with. Once again, Seph making terrible assumptions.

Got to thinking about it in this AU too, so...

Bells Hells C2 Class Swap AU and Titan Shit

Sometimes AUs walk slightly to the left of canon's path, and sometimes they run off into the bushes for a little while...

Also this is long, so it’s beneath the cut.

So, I don’t think Bells Hells ever even learns about the Spark of Rau'shan in this AU since Keyleth (and Pike) tag Ashton as titan-blooded about one month before the Apogee Solstice begins.

Because while Kiki is busy as fuck prepping for the Solstice and putting out Ludinus's Distractions For People of Importance and Power fires, I'm pretty sure she could put aside thirty minutes to Scry on Evontra'vir, Transport Via Plants through to him, and ask him "What the fuck did you tell/give to Efterin of the Hishari?" and get her answer before teleporting back to business. Or she could send a lackey to interrogate the tree, or Pike could go if she feels like it (get back to some of her sailing roots travelling the Shattered Teeth). Because there's no way they're letting a titan-blooded kid run around getting tangled up in Big World-Ending Problems without knowing what that means, if there's more titan blood to be found, and if more can be made any time soon because the last thing they need is another titan blood except they're batting for the other side.

Happily for Keyleth, the answer from Evontra'vir was "fulfilling Destiny" ...by sending Efterin after an artifact he knew the cultist would misuse and accidentally (but in accordance with Destiny) implant in his kid. Yeah, Keyleth's not impressed. But it is nice to know what exactly she sensed in Ashton: a Shard of Ka'Mort, Empress of Earth.

Also, no mention is made of the Spark of Rau'shan, as Evontra'vir is Destined to guide Ashton to that, so he's not telling anyone else. Though Keyleth suspects that if a fragment of Ka'Mort survived, there's also a piece of Rau'shan out there. But best to let sleeping dogs lie if it's gone unclaimed this long and getting the Shard of Ka'Mort took a Destiny Tree's instructions to retrieve.

Which is fine. There's a reason canon!Bells Hells found crispy skeletons in the spelunking nightmare but didn't get crisped themselves: the Spark wasn't willing to be moved without the Shard nearby. As evidenced by the roiling lava calming at Ashton's approach vs the Doompa Loompa report of Big Boom when someone upset the Spark (likely trying to take it away).

Anyways! What this means is that once Bells Hells has retrieved Blue-Butt Flowers (sorry, Matt) to help Keyleth recover, part of their Questions on What To Do Next is "Can we get Ashton more Titan Powers for their power-up? The [Hybrid Form] is cool and all, but kind of lame for a Titan Shard when you can go Earth Elemental better than him."

And Keyleth has been thinking about this. What she sensed in Ashton is immensely powerful, and the boi only seems to ever use an itty bitty fraction of that might, instead relying more on the strange other power that he's now religiously(?) tied to as well.

Her answer on the Titan Power-up front is two-fold:

1) Bells Hells can go to Vasselheim to see if the Stone Titan's corpse nudges anything, and potentially, probably, meet with Grog, who's still got the Titanstone Knuckles.

Keyleth kind of doubts the Stone Titan Corpse will do anything, being long dead and divorced of its elemental might beyond the continued existence of the body (otherwise the Whispered One was wasting a free Super Earthquake Machine). But it did make the Titanstone Knuckles react (because they were forged from that particular titan's heartstone), so it's not a 0% chance. Probably.

But Kiki does think the Titanstone Knuckles might do something for Ashton, since they are, in a way, an inanimate version of him.

...If Grog is still in town. Kiki may have lost track of her friend in all the Solstice hubbub.

2) Keyleth can send Bells Hells to Terrah, village of the Earth Ashari. The abundant elemental earth energy there might jumpstart Ashton's earth titan shit. And if that's not enough, they could try taking a few steps through the Rift to the Elemental Plane of Earth and see if that intensity of earth energies does the trick.

The problems with these ideas are:

Vasselheim will likely react poorly if they find out Keyleth sent a baby titan their way to do some teething on the titan corpse stuck in the middle of their city.

Keyleth definitely needs to talk to Pa'tice about sending a baby earth titan to Terrah for teething, because who knows what that will do to the energies and Elementals in the area and the Rift.

Now Chetney, FCG, and Imogen are all interested in going to Vasselheim, for different reasons. Chetney wants to check Issylra off his List of Continents He's Been To. FCG would like to visit a big Changebringer Temple for advice/guidance (yes, they still picked up religion. It just doesn't fuel his powers this time). And Imogen wants to visit the Stormlord's big temple to further pursue the challenge of following him that she started during the Party Split.

Of course, Team Issylra is wary of going to Vasselheim considering they helped kill part of a missionary group from Vasselheim.

Fearne is neutral and goes where Orym goes.

Well, since it's going to take Keyleth a little while to talk with Pa'tice and get the okay for Bells Hells to visit, she was thinking Maeve could take them to Vasselheim for a day or two while she does that.

...With a quick, initial detour to get Dancer (and crew) on fixing the Quintessence Array. Just in case Bells Hells finds anything of interest to slurp up. (Also because I'd like FCG and Dancer to find their closure still. And don't want to have to worry about the logistics of failing to stop Ratanish's Joe-assisted sabotage before they start making skyships drop out of the sky...)

So, Vasselheim!

Yeah, they can see the titan corpse from where they arrive in the Abundant Terrance. Which is a completely different district than where its feet are planted.

First stop though, ends up being the Changebringer Temple (which I don't see an official location for on the wiki, but think makes sense to be placed in the Quadroads as a crossroads of sorts for the goddess of roads). Partially because it's on the way and partially because FCG is getting a lot of looks of dislike from the locals, so Temple approval for the robit should help. Hopefully.

Keyleth did not think through sending a soul in an arcane machine to a city that severely distrusts the arcane. Thankfully, he's got friends to phalanx around him and stare down the glares. ...And Laudna may have to go inside the phalanx too, as undead.

So! FCG gets to talk to more holy people who follow the same goddess as him. And maybe gets to meet a therapist-type, to replace the meeting with Jirana, so they get that realization too.

Next stop: the Braving Grounds. Which has all of the other attractions Bells Hells is interested in.

Ashton, Chetney, and Fearne (as she is a barbarian in this AU) are all super interested in The Crucible fighting pit when they come across it. So probably some matches to roll there. ...Though Fearne may be more interested in picking gambler pockets than fighting herself. Laudna is welcome to try too as a monk/frontliner. And so is Imogen, as an attempt to further impress the Stormlord into being the new juice behind her cleric abilities.

When they drop by the Trial Forge (Stormlord's Temple), after talking with Groon's apprentice(? whatever you want to call the person being trained to take over after him because monks age super well but don't live forever and Groon is old. Also, for extra trouble, they could be a really buff older woman, to mess with Imogen's taste in women) who's currently running the place since the Earthbreaker himself is at the Red Center Resistance camp, the Stormlord does present Imogen with a challenge. But not his usual "Where does your strength come from?" question. Because let's be real: Imogen would immediately and without hesitation answer "Laudna," which is generally the correct answer, even if it's not the whole "My friends are my strength" answer he's usually searching for. So I think the Stormlord should challenge Imogen to not use her mindreading on others (or at least the party) for a while, to make her actually communicate with the group instead of brain-checking when she gets impatient. Make her learn that while her mind powers are a strength, there's more to be found in trusting her friends, in having faith in them.

Then it's off to actually get a close up look at the titan corpse. Which, hot damn is it huge. Like, they knew that already since they could see it the whole time they've walked around the city, but it's even more mind-boggling up close.

And then they have a moment of realization that what's inside Ashton was probably bigger and even more badass. After all, no one remembers this one's name or any titles it might have held, but Ashton's got a piece of Ka'Mort, Empress of Earth.

Also, like, what the fuck has Vasselheim done with the titan corpse parked in the middle of their city? Is it now a giant condo complex (that slowly drives people cambial insane like the dwarves of Thomara)? Is it a shopping mall? Is it a new skyport? A challenging free-climbing "mountain"? Just a tourist attraction? Seriously, what did they do with this giant obstruction in the middle of their city over the past thirty years? Tell us, Matt!

Anyways, they sidle on up to one of the titan's feet so Ashton can touch it (He touched the butt foot). This may include sneaking past guards to keep people from doing exactly that.

It doesn't awaken any powers in Ashton, but they do get a use of Grim Psychometry on it. Which Ashton technically shouldn't really have yet, as Bells Hells probably needs to go through one more big fight before reaching Level 11 (canon level up was after getting on the ghost ship), allowing for 2 Cleric/9 Blood Hunter, but I'm giving it to him just this once anyways for Titan Shit.

Ashton gets to see flashes of the Stone Titan living its life in the primordial chaos of early, early Exandria, and the death of the Stone Titan (which made a mountain range with the impact of its body being thrust into the ground). Maybe a bit of its zombie march on Vasselheim via the Whispered One's power. He just gains a bit of understanding of what the titans were.

That's about all I have planned for Vasselheim. Of course, there's room to get in trouble, visit the Slayer's Take, talk with Maeve (try to get childhood blackmail on Orym), let paladin Chet visit the All-Hammer Temple, have Delilah stir to cause trouble at the site of her most recent defeat (or close enough to it), and do other stuff for the day or two they're there.

I should also mention that Bells Hells has been asking about Grog while they've been running around, but they don't get anything recent or distinct enough to follow to find him. Mostly because I'd love to know where Grog is in canon ...and also really kind of love the moon-greeter Grog that came up on 4-Sided Dive ep18.

Or Bells Hells does locate the Grand Poobah, and have to bail Grog out of jail. And deal with Ashton trying to steal or fleece Grog out of the Titanstone Knuckles. The Knuckles call to them and seem so... tasty.

Adventures in Vasselheim done (or they can be skipped in exchange for hanging out in Zephrah, but I do like the opportunities it provides for other party members to achieve stuff), it's back to Zephrah to see if Keyleth has gotten Bells Hells the okay to go to Terrah.

She has, so off they go through a tree! ...to an hour or two out of town so that Bells Hells has the (escorted) hike towards Terrah and its Rift to see how Ashton reacts to that energy and that energy reacts to him. With plenty of time to back out or be sent away.

Ashton is definitely feeling more energetic the closer they get to town and the Rift. And having to fight off the growing urge to take on their Hybrid Form. Meanwhile, the local earth elementals/eidolons are clearly taking notice of the baby titan coming into town. They are not being terribly subtle about following Ashton around and/or wanting a bit of attention from him while doing whatever he asks of them.

Once they get to Terrah proper, Bells Hells spends some time helping around under Pa'tice's supervision (the place was recently in trouble with a cult trying to destabilize the Rift, I'm sure there's some cleanup Bells Hell can creatively help with) and poking at Ashton to see if his powers have upgraded yet. And while I'd say that the earth energy there gives an extension to Ashton's time in their Hybrid Form, it's just not quite enough to really wake up the Shard.

Which mean field trip time!

Bells Hells take what is meant to be a trip to loiter around the Rift until something happens for Ashton, but ends up being more of an adventure because Reasons.

Reasons could be Cult of the Dark Heart people still hanging around on the Earth Plane side of the Rift that Bells Hells chases down for potential info or because they kidnap someone (from the party or an Earth Ashari guide/guard). Could be a bunch of Earth Elementals cart Ashton away to be worshipped as the Empress returned and now Bells Hells has to get them back. Or it could be that Bells Hells thought they spotted something interesting and ended up running after it like they do (see rabbit with a Feywild Shard back in the Heartmoore).

Any which way Bells Hells gets dragged into exploring the Plane a little bit, they do manage to awaken Ashton's Shard. Which shifts his Hybrid Form to something closer to the canon Demi-titan Form, the differences being that it's crystal clusters/spikes instead of rock, they keep the crystal claw/fingers, and the light from the cracked cat's-eyes is purple-silver where if you stare deep enough into them, you see the dunamancy galaxy swirl inside, sort of like a geode.

Ashton also gets a Second-phase Form in place of the canon Demi-titan one which comes with the super awesome bells and whistles plus penalty costs. Second-phase is taller (10' instead of 8') and bulkier. And maybe gets a second set of arms? The Stone Titan had four arms and all, and it would further differentiate a full-on Titan Mode from his Hybrid Form. Also more punching power and being able to pick up and carry the whole party under his arms if the short kings are doubled up with other people. Also, Second-phase can be used separate from Hybrid Form.

I also think it would be fun for Bells Hells to pick up some treasures to slurp up with the Quintessence Array, or just use as is, possibly by trading with a Dao (earth genie) or raiding one's treasury. Or like, offerings/congratulatory gifts for "newborn" baby titan from the locals.

After getting back to Terrah, goals achieved, Bells Hells is off to Whitestone to pick up the Quintessence Array, possibly use it, and get their next assignment/mission.

They get to meet Allura, receive a dunamancy identification from her, maybe show off Ashton's new Hybrid Form (but not Second-phase because penalties) just to say "Look what we got!", and attend the war meeting where they volunteer for Moon Scouting.

Also squeeze in that visit to Nana Morri for Fearne's heritage because going to a different Plane made Fearne miss home and they didn't get anything interesting for her from the Earth Plane but surely Nana has something cool and powerful and useful for her granddaughter.

It would be kind of funny if Grovelthrash, an Arms of the Betrayers, is sitting in Nana's storage and she gives it to Fearne. The spirit of the hammer does like when its wielder claims treasures (Fearne is a consummate knickknack thief) and Fearne is so go with the flow that she'd breeze right past it liking to cause pain, warhammers work for barbarian aesthetic, and it allows her to be a little bit twinnie with Ashton since this weapon grants some earth-based abilities. Also, bringing in some Betrayer God stuff for funsies (and adding even more trouble besides Grazzt'char, assuming that it wasn't traded in the Earth Plane. ...Yeah, I forgot they lost it on the ghost ship they did not ride in this AU until this point).

But really, any sufficiently powerful weapon or (custom) Feat for Fearne is good enough.

Chetney makes his deal, of course.

Orym... most probably not. Wizards take the "slow" way to power by learning, and learning a lot, that allows them to bend the world to their will. And like, he can probably squeeze in a quick lesson from Allura while Fearne is dealing with her family instead of bargaining with Morri.

...Though I think Laudna might try to make canon!Orym's deal instead. Monks are great, but they're also more "normal" like Fighters, and she wants to be able to protect Imogen, no matter the cost. And the others to a less intense degree. Also, it is a chance to get rid of the threat of Delilah too, who is less relied on in this AU since she's not a Warlock Patron for Laudna and Laudna does have other people who care about her now. It's time to let go of her murderer who has kind of Stockholm Syndromed her with her possession.

All that done, and they're off to the Red Center for Moon Scouting Mission.

Philza abandoned him

It was a fact pounding into Tommy over and over, replacing where once there was a heart beating in his chest. Not good enough for Philza’s hoard, and he’d always known that, but finally Philza caught on to just how awful he was. Even the covetous nature of a dragon would never want something worthless.

The contract that once bound them together shook in his hands, crimson seeping into the paper. In one signature Tommy was removed, blotted out. It didn’t matter that Tommy would do anything, beg and cry and bleed just for the faint possibility of mercy because he’d never see Philza again. No explanation beyond cold words blurring on the page. Had there been signs? He must’ve ignored them, willfully so, too terrified of what it meant to survive with his only bastion of safety gone. Tommy wasn’t going to last in the Foundation without him.

Philza had been his one lifeline. Ripped away from his family, surrounded by humans that despised him, beaten into the shape of a monster– but he had Philza, his only solace in all this. But his infinite patience must’ve finally snapped and now Tommy was plummeting. It didn’t register when his knees hit the floor. Nothing did, nothing mattered, least of all Tommy. Philza clearly thought so at least.

Tommy trembled despite how tightly he curled into himself. The world felt cold and hostile, the warmth drained out. Philza was his everything. He was the respite from Tommy’s little cell, the only hand that never flew against him anymore, the friends and family he hadn’t seen in so long, the stars Tommy couldn’t quite remember. The only source of affection in the sea of cold soldiers and observers and doctors. A glowing, serrated smile and open arms that always welcomed him into warm embrace. Philza held Tommy together enough that his cracks melted together and made him whole again.

And now he was gone and took the warmth of the world with him. So Tommy froze. A husk, cold and inanimate. As if pretending to be a statue would mean he wouldn’t feel this pain anymore. Those pounding facts, abandoned, discarded, unwanted, echoed in his cold, hollow chest.

It wasn’t a cold that lasted for long.

For all that Tommy was living through his worst nightmare, nightmares tormented him anyway. In his dreams, Philza found him. Arms thrown open wide and cinders flashing beyond sharp teeth. And of course Tommy threw himself into the dragon’s arms, relieved that the swirling confusion of betrayal was only a bitter mistake. Strong arms wrapped around, clutching him tight. Tommy gasped at the heat. Each touch dissolved into fire scorching into his skin. White hot pain swallowed his vision as Philza only held him closer. Talons stroked through his hair, clawing burn marks into his scalp. Ghosts of past exchanges murmured in the background, the soft assurances Philza used to tell him, the gentle touches mimicked for all that each one burned. The awful parody of affection played on.

“Why?” Tommy whimpered. The embrace was inescapable. Tommy didn’t even try.

Philza lifted his chin, claws digging embers into his flesh. “This is what you deserve,” Philza murmured, planting a kiss on his forehead. The brand seared on, forever marked discarded property.

Tommy couldn’t let go. For all that he was embracing flames at least he was warm. At least he was held. He was loved even if he was destroyed.

But Philza unraveled in his hands, collapsing into a pillar of flame. Tommy clawed into him desperately, trying to will him back into form. “No, no, come back! I’ll do anything,” Tommy begged, hands passing through curls of cruel inferno. Philza dissolved into embers, leaving Tommy empty handed. With shaking hands blackened and scorched, Tommy raked through the coals, trying to find any last dreg of Philza’s love.

The ashes cooled.

Bitter hatred curled in Tommy’s tattered heart. It took a long time to harden himself like this, to go cold like stone. Like it or not, Tommy continued to survive the Foundation. Maybe he’d never really needed Philza to begin with.

Tommy didn’t really believe that. But he could tell the mantra to himself, over and over, as many times as it took to make it the next day. And the next. Planning and preparing his escape from this hell hole. He has other people to rely on; or had, in the case of some, her ghost still watching over his and Tubbos’ shoulders. But the disaster of their first escape attempt only fueled the desperation of the next. They’d get out no matter what it took.

Tommy wouldn’t abandon Philza though. Maybe he couldn’t. For every time Philza saved him he’d repay the debt. Free the both of them; from their enemies, from each other. Well and truly severed.

That didn’t change the dread in his gut as Tommy traced the old claw marks and bloodstains that marked the twisting hallway connecting their cells together. Still he broke the cage trapping Philza.

And then they were face to face for the first time since Philza got rid of him.

He could sense Philza’s disappointment seeping out, a grimace he couldn’t quite hide at seeing them. The undercurrent of you shouldn’t be here tumultuous beneath cordiality. The way he snapped out there will be consequences before smothering wrath in favor of an affable mask. Tommy had thought he’d have Tubbo for support at least, when they were finally face to face. But then fingers of smoke stole them away, sedated at Philza’s whims.

And he never felt more alone than when he was with Philza.

Yet when he held his hand out, Tommy fell into it, instincts betraying him. Philza’s claws framed his jaw, inches from his jugular. Tommy only pressed closer, starving for touch. For a moment it was warm and sweet, Tommy’s hand slipping up to cup Phil’s. For a moment, he could forget everything and find refuge like he had so many times before.

But then that moment was over and betrayal collected in the back of his throat like bile. No longer could he pretend it was any real affection, not when claws seared into his face. Pain flared up, but for a moment Tommy couldn’t even care. Would it really be so awful to accept this? Who else would have him?

Willfully, Tommy pulled away the burning affection, rejecting Philza’s manipulation. His fingers ached, pulsing in phantom pain for all that they were absent of the scorch marks he expected.

But he refused to let Philza continue to hurt him. Finally, Tommy let go of the embers of their relationship.

Oh yeah, so here are some questions: how social merpeople are is based on dolphins, right? Are the pods always only 3 people? Do you think merpeople can survive alone or in a sort of close knit "village" with others? They should be able to hunt, right?

How social mer are is actually based off of both dolphins and humans. I've found that people underestimate just how social we are as human beings, and how, if you are put in an environment that requires you to work together with a group to survive, natural selection tends to hone those more social instincts. And on top of that, being alone in the vast ocean where sometimes it's hard to tell up from down and day from night can drive a mer mad if they don't have SOMEONE to talk to. Mer find it a lot easier to end up in situations that are sensory depriving. And for a species hardwired to be on alert at all times? That sort of thing takes it's toll.

It's also a little bit taken from space aus and "humans are weird/earth is space australia" stuff I've seen and really enjoyed over the years. Especially with Martyn's thoughts on 'mer will pod-bond with anything that gives them enough attention.' it's essentially the mer version of pack-bonding for humans, and how we tend to build relationships with any sort of animals we can feasibly keep as a pet, and even inanimate objects.

A pods of around 7-15 mer is considered the normal size for a pod, and is typically the size for a stable 'family' pod. A family pod is usually from 1-3 mating pairs, along with their children, and perhaps a few other friends or younger mer from other pods who are courting or become friends with their children.

The minimum for a pod is 3, because otherwise that's just a pair, and from 3-7 mer is considered a small pod. I've gone over this before in other asks, but as mer grow up, it's not uncommon for teenage mer to leave their family pods (sometimes alone, if there's another pod they can join right away, but more typically in pairs or trios of siblings or pod-mates) and strike out on their own. These younger mer will often form friend based pods (like Grian's pod or like the NHO pod that Etho and Bdubs belonged to before they left and met Tango), which are pretty unstable until the mer fully mature, and often end up becoming new family pods as romance blooms, yadda yadda yadda birds and the bees.

Not always, though, as we see with both the 'bet' pod (Bdubs, Etho, nd Tango) and Grian's pod. Etho, Bdubs, and Tango could join up with another pod if they wanted to, they just don't.

Anything bigger than roughly 15 members is considered a 'large' pod. There tend to be fewer of these, and they tend to be more migratory because of their larger draw on the resources around them. Large pods also tend to be more unstable as different smaller pods can join or leave depending on the time of year and the specific migratory path, and teen mer who have left the family pod where they grew up might join or leave whenever. They due tend to be great sources of gossip and general knowledge and skills, though, due to the many members and because they have more hands to do the work they can get more specialized in what they know. They also tend to have more well established migration paths, and normally there's a more stable extended family in a large pod that acts as the 'backbone' and leadership, so to speak. They tend to function like more like close knit little villages, rather than small family groups.

The hivemind pod (lead by Doc) is a very unique outlier in this, being completely stationary, and having roughly 50 members at any given time. They're basically trying to create mer agriculture, and are already a major trading center.

While lone mer can survive on their own, especially as adults, it is very very hard and very very stressful. Most don't do it unless they have to, because of how dangerous the ocean can be. Hunting in general is difficult, and mer need meat in their diets to support their high metabolisms. They can survive off of foraging alone, but clams and other shellfish can be hard to get into without the right strength or tools, and mer can't survive off of only plants in the long run.

When one wrong move can net you an injury that might impede your ability to hunt, and you're alone? That mer is basically shark chum unless they are either very lucky or can find someone to help. A mer alone lives on a kinfe's edge. Most simply choose the safer option to be in a pod.

Animus magic (Au talk)

So as I said in my last post I would talk about Animus magic and how it works in this au. I'll eventually post a map but theirs a small island south from the main land where Icewings live. Around those icy oceans one of the seawing tribes live. Due to sharing a home these seawings and Icewings interact a lot leading to a lot of hybirds. However, their not the only tribes to hang around there as the Nightwings and Icewings have slight tensions leading to them having dragons spying on each other. While the Nightwings make sure they don't tell their secrets about mindreading or future vision to the Icewings likewise the Icewings hide Animus magic from the Nightwings. However, the Nightwings have begun to work out theories on how Animus magic is acquired. Some suspect the snow, some the way the moon reflects off the snow and others suspect the bright lights that light up the sky day or night.

The truth is that Animus magic is made by the aurora borealis the bright colorful lights that light up the sky. However, the truth is worse than just leave an egg out and it might get Animus magic, since the bright colors also mean that the wyrmling inside the egg becomes weaker and more likely to die before hatching. Due to this Icewings have gained the tradition of burying their eggs to protect them from this light as the brighter the Aurora the weaker the wyrmling and the higher chance of death. Likewise Seawings living in those areas have been reported to hide their eggs in sea caves deep underwater or even in mud. Although it is more common to find them kept in a large metal box designed to hold the egg while giving enough space for the wyrmling to hatch unharmed.

If an egg is left out for whatever reason then the brightness of the Aurora tends to impact how strong the Animus magic and how likely it is for the egg to die.

At it's weakest it usually causes level 1 Animus. These Animus dragons can influence the emotions and feelings of dragons by enchanting items to change color, texture, shape based on the dragon's holding it's emotion. They can also enchant items to influence other dragons mood. This is also the easiest of them to break out of since the main factors towards breaking out of Animus magic is 1) realizing it is animus magic 2) mental fortitude. Just how much you can mentally fight against it. The chances of the egg dying when kept out are roughly 50/50

Level 2 animus comes from when the light is stronger. This is the level of intensity it is normally under. With a solid 70% chance that eggs left under it's light will never hatch. Dragons with Animus level 2 are able to mess with other dragons sensors. Making soft stuff feel hard, making cotton feel like metal. They can also mess with a dragons sense of sight making a rock look like it's gold. Once again unable to enchant a dragon directly they tend to use jewelry and items to enchant dragons.

On the rare night it glows at full power dragons hatched under it will have level 3 animus magic. Able to actually change a rock into gold, able to extinguish a firescales, firescales. They are the strongest and most feared. Yet, almost all eggs left out will die. Only about 5% survive and even then the dragons are usually smaller than normal and very sickly. Even they can't make an inanimate object move on it's own. Theirs always work arounds for those creative enough. I.E instead of 'spear kill Snowfall' you can say 'make anyone who holds this spear want to kill Snowfall' Being the hardest to fight only other animus or those familiar with it have a chance to fight back against it's power.

How do Animus gain power? you have natural ability which is typically level 1 or 2 this is the power that a dragon is hatched with. However, they can grow stronger through training. Using their abilities more and getting more familiar with it can make a dragon hatched as a level 2 animus become as powerful as a level 3. Making those hatched with level 3 that receive the right training something to truly fear.

tribes beliefs and customs around Animus dragons;

Icewings; they believe that Animus dragons are a blessing and a curse from the sky. That every unhatched dragon becomes fused with the colorful sky, trapped forever. That those hatched aren't much better off as each spell wears away their soul bit by bit until their heartless and cruel. So they tend to keep Animus dragons under a close eye to make sure they don't overuse their magic however their is no strict limit for how often they can or cannot use their magic, only that it must be kept to important situations. I.E making a earring for a lover is bad, making your claws strong enough to kill another dragon in self-defenses, good.

Seawings; the southern tribe believe animus dragons are by nature heartless and cruel and that no matter how much or little magic they use it's pointless. Instead they should be taught to serve their queen/king, abandon all love and never have eggs. Due to these harsh rules most Animus either flee or are killed for refusing to obey the queen/king. You can find each and every animus dragon killed name written on the castle wall as a warning to other animus dragons.

In the Northen tribe where Animus magic is much rarer they believe only purebreed dragons can have Animus magic and stories of hybrid Animus dragons are either made up to scare wyrmling's into behaving or overexaggerated stories. Otherwise they tend to have similar believes to the Icewings. That overtime the usage of Animus magic is what wears away at their soul.

Nightwings; They see Animus magic the same way they view future vision and mindreading as a tool rather than something to fear. Instead encouraging those with Animus magic to train and learn their own limitations so they can serve their tribe. They are given free pick over whoever they want as their mate with the exception that said mate must also agree. However, with how status oriented they can be very few would reject an Animus dragon unless they already had their heart stolen by another.

Skywings; They tend to share views with the Southern Seawing tribe seeing Animus dragons as already heartless. So if a wyrmling is found to be Animus they are given the same treatment as firescale, a free flying lesson. If they use their magic to survive they are either send to the queen/king for their fate to be decided if their parents are merciful or it is up to either parent to finish the job.

Sandwings; Almost no Sandwings have been reported to be Animus. However that doesn't mean their haven't been Animus sandwings rather they just don't have any protocol due to how rare it is. Typically if one is found they are taken to the queen/king for protection and for them to begin study but nobody is fully sure if that is what actually happens or not. Most Animus are too scared to find out if their queen/king is that merciful.

Rainwings; Similarly almost no Rainwings have been reported to be Animus. If a rainwing is found to be Animus it is assumed the tribe wouldn't do much about it. Seeing as they are highly communitive it is possible they would be given more responsibilities in looking after the tribe.

Mudwings; I can't believe I forgot about Mudwings. They also don't have many records of Animus dragons, however, they do have a protocol for if one is found. They and their sibs are given a special title depending on what their original jobs were where they pretty much have the same job as they had but with a fancy title. This also means they are given extra training to work up their Animus magic so they can protect their sibs if the need arises.

….As far as I know, Ink mostly cares about the flow of ink that was used to create the AUs than the AUs themselves. I mean, he needs said AUs to motivate the Gods (the creative Fandom) to pour in more ink that he needs to survive (for without it, he might die as an inanimate scribble that he came to the Doodlesphere as).

So yeah, I could see him view PaperCrane as a nuisance, but only when they interfere with the creator's creations (namely, the scripts and fate that the creators established in their AUs), for they don't care about the timelines that branch off from the original script (unless they created confusion between creators, then it became his problem). Though I was curious about his involvement with Error and CORE. Error's story has already concluded (according to CQ/LoP) and you did mention that CORE won't let him into the Omega Timeline until the Magic issue is resolved; and considering that they're an Omnipresent Spirit that knew the Fate of all, I could see them use that infinite magic source to their advantage (or, at least, lead Paper Crane to it).

No not really, Ink's main motivation is to protect the creators creativity, if something goes against what the creator came up with he sees it as his duty to keep that story intact. He doesn't intervene in great tragedy if the story was planned as such.

Ink doesn't die if he doesn't have any color reserves, he simply becomes emotionless and uncaring.

But yes, Crane does interfere with the flow of things, disturbing initial scripts.

Error's perception of him is sorta amusing. He doesn't see Crane much like a treat but more like a pain in the ass since not only does in interfere with his destructive path but on top of that none of his magic attacks affects the guy.

As for Core they would definitely remain distant, I do not think they would risk endangering the omega timeline with Crane's presence.

Class of Heroes AU: Worst Fears

I come to you with more HC’s, this time about what frightens our heroic kiddies the most! As always, credit to @imsparky2002 and @artzychic27! Thanks to Sparky again for helping with these ideas! Once again, keep an eye out for a matching post with the villains!

Marinette: One of Marinette’s greatest fears is that she will fail to accomplish her goals, and in doing so bring dishonor upon her family, made worse by the fact that she’s technically disobeying them being here. She also carries the dread that she will one day fail as a warrior and be unable to protect those she holds dear.

Adrien: Drilled into him by his father since he was a child, Adrien harbors a deep fear of the thugs and ruffians of the world. But perhaps what he dreads most is that someday he will be forced back into his tower, away from Marinette, Kagami and all his friends. He also fears that one day his power will be unable to heal a friend when they need it most.

Alya: Like her best friend, Alya carries a paralyzing fear of failure and not reaching the goals she sets for herself. She’s worked too hard to not get what she’s after! She also dreads failing to provide for her family and friends, as well as people who practice dark magic and hoodoo. (She doesn’t mind general voodoo. She grew up near the bayou, and heck, Mama Odie practically helped raise her!)

Nino: Like all Fairy Godfolk, Nino fears that his wand will someday end up in the wrong hands. (The wands have magical safeguards, of course, but cunning villains have managed to break them before!) He also dreads letting people down and failing to make their dreams come true, as is his purpose.

Rose: Rose loves her older brother, Ali, with all her heart, but unfortunately, most of her village doesn’t feel the same, seeing him as a crackpot lunatic for his eccentric ways. Due to this, she fears that he will be taken to the town asylum in her absence. And due to a terrible experience in the woods around the time she first met Juleka, she is terrified of wolves.

Juleka: Stemming from traumatic past experiences, Juleka has a deep terror of angry mobs, especially of the pitchforks-and-torches variety! She also fears being unable to break the curse, not so much for remaining a beast, but for losing her family and other loved ones as they are left inanimate, dormant household objects.

Max: Max doesn’t talk much about the time before he came to FPA, and with good reason. At his previous school, a terrible fire broke out and his cousin Terrance was unable to make it out due to trying to save one of their teachers. Since then, Max has had a haunting fear of flames and burning buildings.

Kim: The young demigod desires nothing more than to be a true hero, and because of this he deals with the constant fear that his strength won’t be enough and he will fail to save someone, especially someone he cares about. Additionally, due to his experiences with the people in his hometown, he fears accidentally harming his friends with his lack of control over his strength.

Ivan: Stemming from a traumatic childhood experience at the famed ‘Festival of Fools’, Ivan has a terrible fear of being tied up or bound in chains. (When some of the Royals, who saw the event on television, tied him up in the amphitheater as a prank, he had a panic attack.) Being unable to run or say anything as people laughed and jeered at him has stuck with him for years.

Mylene: With everything that the woman has attempted to do to her, it should come as no surprise that Mylene is terrified of her stepmother and anything related to her. She also has a deep fear of being poisoned, and refuses to touch red delicious apples due to a traumatic experience.

Alix: Having been forced to grow up as a thief and urchin in the streets, Alix fears that one day she will no longer have a place to call home and have to fight to survive again. She also has a deep fear of being imprisoned for her tendency to steal due to a childhood trauma.

Nathaniel: Given the circumstances of his curse, Nathaniel harbors a deep hatred and terror for needles of any kind, especially those of a spinning wheel! But running even deeper than that is his fear of being alone, rooted in the fear of failing to break his curse and waking up having long outlived all of his loved ones.

Sabrina: Obviously, Sabrina fears the things you would expect of a wooden girl: fire, axes, saws, the works. But one thing she fears the most is being forced to act as a plaything to entertain people again, being tied up with strings. (She also had a fear of whales, due to a frightening encounter with the terrible Monstro, but meeting some of Ondine’s whale friends has helped her begin to get over it!)

Chloé: Before she started to turn her life around, Chloé always feared that one day she would lose her wealth and be left as a pathetic peasant. Nowadays, she fears being deemed unworthy of forgiveness and ending up loved by no one. (She doesn’t really have to worry though!)

Marc: The heir of Arendelle’s greatest fear is accidentally harming or even killing someone with his ice magic, especially Nathaniel or one of his friends. While he is coming around to embracing his powers, there will always be that belief that he’s dangerous that was drilled into him for so long.

Zoé: With the years of abuse she suffered at the hands of the cruel woman, it’s almost inevitable that Zoé would fear her mother as well anything that reminds her of Audrey even slightly. She also has extreme claustrophobia, stemming from being locked in a small closet as punishment for being “disobedient”.

Ondine: The loss of her beloved mother has given Ondine a deeply-rooted fear of both pirates and storms at sea. She’ll never forget that terrible day when Queen Elsie met her demise amongst the jagged rocks of their favorite grotto. She also is not fond of fisherman or anyone who cooks fish, for obvious reasons…

Kagami: Kagami would never admit it to anyone, but she fears bears as much as her mother despises them! She was just four years old when she came face to face with Yamikuma, the demon bear’s gaping maw and jagged teeth just inches away from her. She may not let on, but that moment haunts her nightmares.

Aurore: Aurore sets incredibly high standards for herself, so it shouldn’t surprise you to learn that she deeply fears that she will let people, especially Sabrina, down as the fairy that is meant to guide them through life. In addition to this, related to the preservation of her kind, she also fears people losing faith in the power of wishing stars.

Mireille: Mireille carries a deep-seated fear of stampedes, stemming from the memory of seeing her mother being ran over by wildebeests as a young cub. Feeling the ground shake will trigger these terrible memories for the poor princess. She also has a long-standing fear of hyenas, and of failing to make her late mother proud.

Jean: Jean harbors a deeply-rooted fear of being rejected and unloved by his people and his friends, which manifests as a dread of being rendered ugly. (Such as when he was transformed into a llama!) Deep down, he just wants to be liked, though he may not let on outwardly.

Denise: If there’s one thing that Denise knows, it’s that a steady arcade game is nothing to sneeze at! They are very lucky to have remained in operation, and seeing the homeless game characters in Game Central Station has left them with the fear of seeing their own game unplugged. They also fear rejection from their loved ones over their status as a ‘bad guy’.

Simon: Unlike the original Boy Who Never Grew Up, Simon ended up in Neverland, raised by the fairies when he was abandoned at no more than seven years old. This left him with a deep fear of being discarded and left behind again, and is why he tries so hard to be fun to be around and well-liked. He also dreads growing up, though his friends and, of course, Denise are helping him get over this!

Ismael: Unsurprisingly, being a freed genie, Ismael harbors a deep dread that one day he will somehow be forced back into servitude. (Not that his friends would ever let that happen!) Having had experiences with this in the past, he also fears being forced to serve the hand of evil.

Reshma: Having been held up as the ‘Golden Child’ of her family since she was very young, Reshma fears that she will fail to meet the high expectations on her and let everyone down. She also, like most of her family, fears one day losing her gift and being of no use to anyone.

Robette: One of Cosette’s most terrifying memories is when a fan riot broke out at a public appearance by their band. One of the boys had his leg broken and several spectators were badly injured. It stuck with Cosette for a long time and ever since, it’s feared a repeat of the incident!

Lacey: Having been something of an outsider back in Pixie Hollow for her ‘outlandish’ ideas, Lacey greatly fears that one day the people she cares about will decide she isn’t worth their time. (Despite frequent reassurance from Simon) She’s also a bit afraid of being captured by pirates, due to bad past experiences…

Mushroom Doll Ranmaru

Inspired by @twst-drabbles 's pet AU!

Living Doll/Mushroom Colony Info

This magical being is a wooden doll that appears to have formed a symbiotic relationship with a sentient colony of mushrooms as they were both developing sentience - with the young magical signatures fusing as they formed together. It's a somewhat rare phenomenon that only occurs in magical beings who develop from previously non-sentient items or life forms. In this case, the living Doll provides a moving shelter for the mushroom colony, whereas the mushroom colony helps the doll with movement and finding its way around.

Living dolls often take form under rapidly changing circumstances of affection - such as being abandoned for a long time before being found and looked after by a loving human. In these cases, they often behave as if they are inanimate objects until they are unsatisfied with their care or if they need to leave their current home for whatever reason.

Their life force is linked to some kind of trinket on their body - and they'll be able to survive any level of damage if it remains intact. It may be hidden within the body, or worn outside it if they feel they are in a safe environment. They can even survive being separated from it and will leave it in the care of another magical being or human if they trust them enough - although it's rare for this to happen as the doll is quite literally trusting that person with their life.

More old fashioned living dolls, such as Ranmaru, may not have the ability to see due to the type of eyes they have - which are attached to the outside of the doll - compared to some more modern ballhjointed dolls where the eyes are inset and, as a result, allow the doll to have some degree of vision.

This particular doll body has an opening in its back where some form of scroll is kept, although trying to open this without his permission will lead to you being met with mushroom spores to the face. There is an engraved name on the opening reading out his name 'Ranmaru'.

Mushroom Colonies are well known for taking over corpses or items as their 'body' to allow for movement and better protection of the colony's heart. They will usually seek out damp and dark spaces, along with swampy areas that work best for their growth - and if you find one mushroom colony somewhere they cancel are you'll be able to find several more - as they can split up into new, smaller colonies and spread across the area. (Cases of this can be recognised by seeing which mushrooms make up the colonies; as these sibling colonies will have the same species.)

Because of this occurrence, colonies may often be considered a type of common being or even a pest in some areas, as they are associated with the spread of diseases due to their most common vessels; however these are simply superstitions as the colonies will usually clean out corpses and replace all of the flesh with mushroom tissue - only pressing mushroom spores that develop first into normal mushrooms before the strongest ones develop into their own sentient colonies.

The colony that makes up Ranmaru is made up of a large ink cap mushroom - growing within his head and out the top - and a few Phellinus Linteus mushrooms on his legs and torso (as well as within his joints in order to strengthen his movements.) This is regarded as a fairly small colony, which is due to the youth of the colony and its vessel.

Species: Mushroom Colony/Living Doll Bond - referred to as a Mushroom Doll

Disposition: Obedient, but curious - and may often ignore instructions if he would rather investigate something. The doll is friendly towards other pets but may react protectively if threatened - with plumes of spores from the ink cap mushroom on his head.

Food: He doesn't eat (can't open mouth) but will use mushrooms from the colony to decompose scraps of old food for energy - good for compost!

Enclosure: He enjoys a dollhouse or terrarium to spend his time in, although any enclosure of his will end up having small non-sentient mushrooms growing around the space.

Previous Home: Found in a forest unsuitable for his survival

Important Notes: He uses sticks to keep an eye out for obstacles and find his way around. Make sure he can hear you approach, or you'll have your hands dyed black from the mushroom on his head.

Greetings Rise fandom! I got another concept for you all!

This could be for its own au, but this is something I'm planning to add into my Dragon Turtles au. I got to thinking about how the turtles could advance with their mystic abilities after the events of the movie, and that's when I got the idea that the bros could gain familiars. Basically, think of these creatures as something like the Palismans from The Owl House, except instead of turning into staffs, they become more like totems, jewelry, or other small, inanimate objects that could be carried around in case of emergencies.

As for how they got them, I like to picture a sort of traveling market that popped up outside of Witch Town. That way all the bros can explore it out of curiosity without getting into trouble with the residents. And as for each one, they all chose the turtles based on a mystic connection. And each one is unique, so let's get into who got who:

Raph: Ursa Minor cub. Bears are classified as strong earth-based guardian spirits, but I wanted Raph's little buddy to be about more than just strength. I also wanted a mystic creature he could show a softer side with. One without worry of getting hurt by the amount of mental anguish suffered at the hands of the Krang turned possibly physical. Hence the decision to give Raph what is essentially a perfect sized teddy bear that also doubles as his mystic partner.

Donnie: Albino Basilisk. Now, I had quite a bit of debate on what to give Donnie as a familiar. I considered something like a rabbit or a cat, but that felt a bit too obvious or overdone. This version of Donnie deserved something unique, so I started looking for alternative animals. The basilisk stuck out to me in a few ways. One, snakes are usually connected to water. Two, making the creature albino means that it would have difficulties surviving, and would have to think outside the box to live in certain conditions. Kind of like Donnie and his soft shell. Making this serpent in particular a fast thinking/highly intelligent creature. Also, much like how Donnie could be misunderstood as a cold and closed off individual, so too are snakes. Snakes can be highly misunderstood as cold, efficient, killing creatures of evil, but some out there actually have calm and friendly temperaments. And while it would take Donnie a while to get over the creepy feeling of them crawling over him, the feel of the smooth skin would probably be great for someone who is theorized to have certain sensitivities to certain textures. Not to mention that the gentle massaging feels of them gently constricting him in a not-too-tight fashion could help keep him grounded in a mental spiral. (And yes, I based the design off of 2012's serpent Karai. it was an intentional reference)

Mikey: Phoenix. Mikey's was an obvious one for me to do. Being the most Mystically connected out of the brothers means he had the highest chances of bonding with a very powerful creature. Enter the phoenix, a firebird with the ability to be reborn from the ashes of an old life. Colorful, graceful, and powerful, the phoenix can also have a soft or even mischievous side to it. A fun-loving creature with great abilities to help a fledging mystic warrior like Mikey gain his proper footing in using them. Especially without hurting himself, like with the portal at the end of the movie. As well as helping him gain confidence to stand on his own when his brothers can't help him.

Leo: Kirin. Leo was also a hard one to figure out. I considered animals like stags, deer, elk and the like. But then, I remembered that Leo had a liking for Unicorns, however I didn't just want to give him a generic unicorn. That's when inspiration struck. I was revisiting the OVA series of Petshop of Horrors, and in the 4th episode, it talked about the Kirin. The Kirin is stated to be a holy beast, who serves no one but it's sovereign. Therefore, the person to gain possession of the Kirin, was destined to be a great ruler. That's when it all clicked into place. The Kirin is not only the Eastern equivalent to the unicorn, but a lot of what it represents could tie into Leo's struggles of being a better leader after the movie. Sovereign is another word for king or leader, and in ancient Chinese/general Asian lore, the arrival of a Kirin was meant to signify the coming or going of a great leading figure. A creature that was benevolent to its allies and had ruthless furry for its enemies. And not just anyone could choose a Kirin as a familiar or guardian spirit, it had to choose you. And after everything Leo went through, fears of failure, the pressures of leadership, the guilt of causing/nearly causing the apocalypse, he would need some kind of sign or reassurance that he was back on the right track. That he was improving and could be a good leader like Casey Jr. said. And what better way than to be chosen by a great mythic beast, with its own set of scars, to choose him to be its leader. If that doesn't prove Leo's leadership capabilities, I don't know what would.

Oh wow! This is a huge honor! I'll try and give a quick summary.

So during the end of Coroika's Octo Expansion arc, team blue and hachi weren't able to ink the entire statue- allowing the statue to fire at full capacity and striking inkopolis with full force.

Most that managed to survive scattered off into different locations to get away from the mess, (the most prominent perspectives so far being the S5, Blue Team, and N-Pacer with Prince.)

Blue Team+S5 (and a few others) have retreated to Octo Canyon, where they act as a makeshift settlement while performing rescue missions back in inkopolis.

N-Pacer and Prince are in Mt. Nantai, where N-Pacer plans to wait out the apocalypse in solitude and safety.

(Also while typing this I realized how much I went into the main "threat" in the au so- please be warned. I dont think I can classify this as a summary anymore.)

The main "antagonist" in this au isn't necessarily tartar itself, but actually the ooze. You know how the ooze is revealed to be made out of "ground up test subjects?" Well, tartar wanted to use the ooze to create a new intelligent organism- one that was completely unified.

So, the ooze started off relatively inanimate at first- the worst thing that could happen is somebody just *falling* in the stuff and suddenly being exposed. But after awhile- it started to evolve.

It's not as intelligent as an inkfish, but it's about as smart right now as our modern day dolphin. It can move around by dragging itself bit-by-bit across the terrain, feel vibrations in the ground, and scariest of all- mimic the voices of those absorbed.

So, what about the whole "absorbing" process? Well, the quickest option is kinda straightforward- the ooze just engulfs you and- BAM! You've been reduced to green slush. But a far more drawn out process is just- slow exposure. By that I mean the average inkfish isn't really engulfed by the ooze, but sometimes steps in some of it or gets a tiny bit on their skin. So they arent really turned to a puddle of lime silly putty- but they definitely arent the healthiest. (In fact, some characters that have already appeared in the au are a victim to this.)

Power Set Notes kinda…

This is more for me to have this written down somewhere but it’s just a very rough summation of every power set I’ve made not including direct upgrades and a small tidbit on what timeline it’s from because the choices that led to these powers are dependent on the surroundings so Caz is not a static entity across all timelines…and this lets me make multiple power sets without shoving all of them into one WoL because then he’d be too strong for my tastes and would make conflicts in game feel too strange to think about.

Mystic/Primal Fist:

The hybrid I talk the most about and arguably put the most work into. It is the power set associated with the main timeline where Caz is WoL and Xavier is his partner through all of the MSQ. Combines Monk physical prowess with Summoner’s cool magic but trade the book for an associated boss weapon or accessory and trade the Egi for a personalized Stand that shows up like DMC4 Nero’s Devil Trigger. Brief but powerful. Main three are “burned out” during ShB due to the Light sickness. Briefly uses Phoenix as his surprise against Zenos in their final duel. Can be regained but needs to refresh his Primal Essences/get irradiated fighting a Primal.

Gilded Path:

A more self indulgent hybrid is inspired by the game Absolver in that it combines the martial arts of a Monk with the magic of Time/Gravity manipulation. This also references one of the viable class combos in FF12 so it double fits for my Dalmascan punch man. The power set is tied to the AU where Caz is not the WoL but nonetheless finds himself in Eorzea…though main timeline may gain this depending on future Dalmasca rep. He still joins the Scions and works alongside Xavier but with far less weight on his shoulders so he delves into the magics of his distant homeland for support rather than tunneling the Primal problem. The origins of his Time/Gravity magic may change if they ever touch on Dalmasca…or I’ll be relishing the fact that I called this ahead of time.

God Hand:

This one is one of the few non-hybrids and is actually one of the potential “paths” Prime Timeline Caz can walk now that A.) Primal Fist is “dead” at the moment and B.) Fighting two of the three gods from The Twelve he has interest in is extremely inspiring for him. It essentially is Caz “perfecting” his own style of Monk after seeking a bit of extra tutelage from Byregot and Rhalgr, thus taking his chakra management to a new level and granting him the ability to infuse inanimate objects with his aether and manipulate their form. Haven’t decide if he will take this path but if he does there will be references to both Gene from God Hand the game and Dungeon Fighter Online’s Monk class cause that hammer totem stuff is sick.

Devil Hand:

Monk/Reaper hybrid and one of the few power sets that sits *mostly* disconnected from MSQ. He’d be around as a notable recurring background guy but not as involved as most others. It’s really just Monk with Enshroud and the Avatar to back it up. Would occasionally replace the scythe with a staff or polearm for the extra monk flavor. The timeline this takes place in is one where Caz was captured before joining the Resistance in Dalmasca and sent to a Garlean work camp for several years. After a successful riot he and several others escape though only he and a Garlean defector stick together. This defector leads them to Ul’Dah where both go into Drusilla’s service. Caz still goes down the pugilist path but is later trained in a portion of the Reaper techniques alongside his friend. Both are skilled but Drusilla does not trust them to survive fighting Orcus. He later seeks out the Monks to further his training on his other skills. Arguably one of his weakest iterations in Eorzea.

Way of the Dawnbringer:

A Monk/Dark Knight hybrid. I used to apply this one to Caz’s solo WoL timeline but have since adjusted it to be the powers of the Caz killed by Black Rose in the Crystal Exarch’s original timeline. Because of this the Exarch gifts him Tank gear upon his arrival.

Forged Fire Fist:

This one is barely touched but it is another Monk subclass of sorts rather than a hybrid. It focuses on absorbing ambient aether and the aether of one’s opponent to channel into the extremities making them seething indestructible weapons capable of deflecting the strongest Colossus’s swings with ease and crumpling its armor with a single jab. It’s a technique meant for a Caz that focused his attention on fighting war machina be they from Garlemald or Ancient Allag. Similarly considered tying it to a Caz that was made to work in Garlean factories rather than fight in the Dalmascan Resistance but didn’t give this one so much attention as it was mainly for the style fitting well with a character that fights more as a boxer than a kung fu kick flip man…not that kicks and flips aren’t cool just boxing is cooler. Will likely attach to a Caz from a Scion Companion AU where Xavier is not there.
