Oh boy! I can feel it coming! The need to rearrange/rewrite Caz lore because nothing can sit still forever. Eh at least it’s fun to do.

Power Set Notes kinda…
This is more for me to have this written down somewhere but it’s just a very rough summation of every power set I’ve made not including direct upgrades and a small tidbit on what timeline it’s from because the choices that led to these powers are dependent on the surroundings so Caz is not a static entity across all timelines…and this lets me make multiple power sets without shoving all of them into one WoL because then he’d be too strong for my tastes and would make conflicts in game feel too strange to think about.
Mystic/Primal Fist:
The hybrid I talk the most about and arguably put the most work into. It is the power set associated with the main timeline where Caz is WoL and Xavier is his partner through all of the MSQ. Combines Monk physical prowess with Summoner’s cool magic but trade the book for an associated boss weapon or accessory and trade the Egi for a personalized Stand that shows up like DMC4 Nero’s Devil Trigger. Brief but powerful. Main three are “burned out” during ShB due to the Light sickness. Briefly uses Phoenix as his surprise against Zenos in their final duel. Can be regained but needs to refresh his Primal Essences/get irradiated fighting a Primal.
Gilded Path:
A more self indulgent hybrid is inspired by the game Absolver in that it combines the martial arts of a Monk with the magic of Time/Gravity manipulation. This also references one of the viable class combos in FF12 so it double fits for my Dalmascan punch man. The power set is tied to the AU where Caz is not the WoL but nonetheless finds himself in Eorzea…though main timeline may gain this depending on future Dalmasca rep. He still joins the Scions and works alongside Xavier but with far less weight on his shoulders so he delves into the magics of his distant homeland for support rather than tunneling the Primal problem. The origins of his Time/Gravity magic may change if they ever touch on Dalmasca…or I’ll be relishing the fact that I called this ahead of time.
God Hand:
This one is one of the few non-hybrids and is actually one of the potential “paths” Prime Timeline Caz can walk now that A.) Primal Fist is “dead” at the moment and B.) Fighting two of the three gods from The Twelve he has interest in is extremely inspiring for him. It essentially is Caz “perfecting” his own style of Monk after seeking a bit of extra tutelage from Byregot and Rhalgr, thus taking his chakra management to a new level and granting him the ability to infuse inanimate objects with his aether and manipulate their form. Haven’t decide if he will take this path but if he does there will be references to both Gene from God Hand the game and Dungeon Fighter Online’s Monk class cause that hammer totem stuff is sick.
Devil Hand:
Monk/Reaper hybrid and one of the few power sets that sits *mostly* disconnected from MSQ. He’d be around as a notable recurring background guy but not as involved as most others. It’s really just Monk with Enshroud and the Avatar to back it up. Would occasionally replace the scythe with a staff or polearm for the extra monk flavor. The timeline this takes place in is one where Caz was captured before joining the Resistance in Dalmasca and sent to a Garlean work camp for several years. After a successful riot he and several others escape though only he and a Garlean defector stick together. This defector leads them to Ul’Dah where both go into Drusilla’s service. Caz still goes down the pugilist path but is later trained in a portion of the Reaper techniques alongside his friend. Both are skilled but Drusilla does not trust them to survive fighting Orcus. He later seeks out the Monks to further his training on his other skills. Arguably one of his weakest iterations in Eorzea.
Way of the Dawnbringer:
A Monk/Dark Knight hybrid. I used to apply this one to Caz’s solo WoL timeline but have since adjusted it to be the powers of the Caz killed by Black Rose in the Crystal Exarch’s original timeline. Because of this the Exarch gifts him Tank gear upon his arrival.
Forged Fire Fist:
This one is barely touched but it is another Monk subclass of sorts rather than a hybrid. It focuses on absorbing ambient aether and the aether of one’s opponent to channel into the extremities making them seething indestructible weapons capable of deflecting the strongest Colossus’s swings with ease and crumpling its armor with a single jab. It’s a technique meant for a Caz that focused his attention on fighting war machina be they from Garlemald or Ancient Allag. Similarly considered tying it to a Caz that was made to work in Garlean factories rather than fight in the Dalmascan Resistance but didn’t give this one so much attention as it was mainly for the style fitting well with a character that fights more as a boxer than a kung fu kick flip man…not that kicks and flips aren’t cool just boxing is cooler. Will likely attach to a Caz from a Scion Companion AU where Xavier is not there.

Custom LBs: Mystic (Titan)
Tumblr media
(Mystic Info)
LB Lvl. 1: Tranquil Pass
Type: AoE (Support)
Cazhim becomes enwreathed in bright earth-aspected aether, entering a meditative state. As this aether seems to pulse brighter and brighter the Shade of Titan begins to appear behind, arms outstretched to his sides and palms upturned. Slowly the Shade brings its hand above its head until his palms meet and he brings them down sharply in front of his chest as if praying. This action unleashes the gathered aether and forces all foes within to be overwhelmed with a sense of calm so deep they fail to answer self preservations call until the prayer is complete. Effect: This skill casts the tranquility and weakness debuff on all foes in a large range around Cazhim for 20 seconds. Cazhim cannot act during this time or the skill ends.
LB LvI. 2: The Land’s Heartbeat
Type: Support
Cazhim stands up straight and taps his weapon on the ground rhythmically in front of him summoning a small crystalline totem that begins slamming the ground, maintaining the beat. With each clash of crystal on earth a wave of specialized aether washes over the battlefield synchronizing the heartbeats and aetheric flow of all who stand as allies to Cazhim. However; for those deemed his foes the inverse is true leading to disrupted aether flow and difficulty moving the limbs. Effects: All allies within range of the totem gain significant buffs to damage and healing output while enemies are afflicted with a debuff reducing attack potency and skill/spell speed. Effects persist for 10 seconds upon leaving the totem’s radius
LB Lvl. 3: Earthen Father
Type: Defense
Cazhim slams his hands into the earth and begins channeling aether into the arena floor. In response to this gift the Shade of Titan answers his call at full power, now enlarged beyond even the original Titan’s size, to protect his allies. The Shade turns it’s back to the incoming attack and cradles the party beneath his form before crystallizing himself, weathering the coming storm in your place. The imposing statue gives out soon after, returning the aether to the land and her allies so they might fight on. Effect: Standard Tank LB3 with added regen buff applied to the party at the end of the defense buff’s duration.

Part of me…is thinking about the Monk/Reaper hybrid timeline where Fist of Earth, Fist of Fire and Fist of Wind are the result of the voidsent avatar eating some of Titan, Ifrit and Garuda. Some style/mode switching on top of your Enshroud perhaps but with a dark flair…back into the infinite “What if this power though” mines…once I finish Mystic’s LBs

Mystic (Initiate) LB’s
(Mystic Info)
LB Lvl 1: Starfall Lance
Type: AoE
Cazhim leaps high into the air and raises his hand aloft calling forth a brightly burning lance, similar in appearance to the nails infamously used by the Lord of the Inferno himself. An instant later, Cazhim slams the nail down into his target resulting in a searing explosion. Damage Type: Magical. Additional Effect: Applies a weak Burn debuff to targets on hit.
LB Lvl 2: Grand Cairn
Type: AoE
Cazhim takes a wide stance and begins to move his arms in a steady flowing motion as sand and stone gathers around his enemy. Then, as he slams his palms together in a prayer position, the collected debris instantly crushes inwards with immense force . Damage Type:Physical. Additional Effect: Applies a 7 second stun to all targets on hit.
LB Lvl 3: Stormbreaker
Type:Single Target
Cazhim raises his hand to the heavens and begins gathering a massive amount of wind aspected aether into himself. Then, faster than the eye can see, he dashes in front of his foe and lets loose a devastating uppercut that, at first, appears to do little more than an average punch…but, only a breath later a column of pure force finally pushes through his foe with a thunderous crack. Damage Type: Both magical and physical split evenly. Additional Effect: None
Thanks for reading. If you’re interested you can find the Limit Breaks available to a Master Mystic back on the main Mystic post using the link at the top of the post. Hope you enjoyed and maybe send your own custom LBs my way if this got ya thinking.

One of the lore bits that randomly developed over time is that Cazhim’s “hero suit” is always the white and blue of the Crystal Braves. I figured if he made his claim to fame on his first outfit then most would know that look best…including G’raha Tia. So in Shadowbringers when it’s time to gear up proper, he is gifted his Dark Knight attire. It’s heavier and more embellished than his usual get up but no doubt reminiscent of his original armor. I think it’s fitting due to the Crystal Exarch’s view of him being a bit more fairy tale hero than his usual look. Once the gang is returned to the Source, Cazhim makes a modified version of his DRK set to show his appreciation towards G’raha’s efforts while simultaneously making it true to his vision of himself as the WoL.

Took some pictures for a monster hunter related ask bopping around on Twitter. Used the last one but have all 3. Also still around, just playing other games. Mostly Monster Hunter World on PlayStation. Maybe I’ll see you out there. Maybe I already have.

Been thinking and I might fuck around and give my boy some amnesia. Messing with backstory is hard and I’ve been running on the vague Dalamasca stuff for so long. It’d be light like a memory haze rather than a loss. But who knows it’s just hard to settle backstory for FF14 for some reason. My other OCs are pretty set but Caz is always shifting.

I think the Weapon of Light stuff never really took for me for a number of reasons:
1. If a villain I am actively there to kill says it then my only response is “what were you up to that required a weapon/monster to get sent your way?” And I understand they have their convictions and therefore will do anything to see their goal accomplished and that’s very respectable and all, but again if you instead took to charity work we wouldn’t be here. Always just feels like last second mind games that really would only work on a naive character who either never considered the fact that they were killing a lot of people or just really doesn’t have the mental fortitude at which point maybe you should hang it up hero. Not in an “oh you’re a pussy for not loving the bloodshed” way but in a “don’t do the job if the nature of the job tears at you mentally because the job is going to last your lifetime”.
2. Myste primarily brought back the wrong people. I’d rewrite it if I were a DRK main but I’m not, for now , so it’s just Myste asking a decent question with the worst examples. I wrote Caz as a former child soldier so he’s already done his bit of wrestling with the whole killing dudes thing. He doesn’t love murder and does actively attempt to intimidate people like conscripts or younger bandit types out of combat in later expansions; however he also knows anyone willing to fight for a cause is “accepting” that they might die for it so he really isn’t losing sleep over enemy soldiers and definitely not veteran criminals. All that being said Myste primarily summons people Caz would believe deserved to die and in Livia’s case is jazzed to break her again cause she fucked shit up in Dalmasca. Ilberd is unfortunate but by the time Caz came looking for him Ilberd had chosen a path. There’s nothing to do for him and you never could have. The city-states were to blame and anything you could’ve said has likely been said the last time he thought about extreme measures.
3. I know the story would be pretty lame/weird if ya just wrote your character to leave but yea Caz wouldn’t stay if he was just not having a decent time in anyway or at least fulfilling some kind of duty/obligation. If the killing was too much? Gone. If he felt like genuinely no one cared and he was actually just a tool to them? Gone. Heavensward is so dicey for him because it’s a scenario where him leaving is a real possibility but his good nature and some old habits when it comes to obligations keeps him around enough where he can kind of enjoy the adventures later. And I know the Scions weren’t given cutscenes where they check up on us every two seconds and shit but apart from Alphinaud’s dickhead phase I find it hard to believe they would completely cold shoulder you for the whole of ARR especially considering how they are written later and if your character is one that would try and reach out I see no reason for them to shoot you down. In whatever weird timeline where they just genuinely never treat you like a person yea, hit the bricks. People have beaten Primals before, they’ll figure it out without Caz brooding and being antagonistic the whole time.
4. Getting sent in as the lone hero may suck but if it’s the best option I can’t find reason to lash out over it. “I’ll do it but I don’t have to like it” is reasonable and close to where Cazhim is at in his Solo AU but he would never turn that frustration on his allies to the point of blaming them. It’s not the fault of the Scions that you’re the strongest guy on hand and Villains 1-50 are up to cataclysmic shit again that really needs to be stopped. Caz would be more upset if the Scions joined on Ifrit, really held their own and turned the fight in your favor, then said “nah that shit was scary you’re on your own next time” but as far as I can tell most times they either physically can’t join you or are like you’re the guy that can both not get tempered and actually hold your own while I can maybe do one of those things so I’m going to stay here and not be a liability.
If you made it this far…wow that’s potentially good or bad but regardless these are just my opinions and not meant to tell you how to write your character or that I think poorly of you or your character for feeling differently about the “Weapon of Light” thing. In fact Caz as a Scion companion would expects your WoL to be a bit tired of their situation to some degree and would not begrudge them for venting at times so long as they actually took some enjoyment in the journey/were committed the cause without being outright hostile to their allies. In general my position as a villain killer, I do like a few villains I just like seeing them die or reform more than I like seeing them continue to be bad, an ally liker, I like my non-romantic team dynamics, makes it hard for bad guys to dissuade my character. Now if we genuinely smacked around weaker folk via misunderstanding or something and got called a monster/weapon by our allies I might be on board but that’s neither here or there. Anyways, done rambling so go about your business.

Random thought but I don’t think anyone from the Dalmascan Resistance would recognize Cazhim during the Ivalice raids…
He was an exceptional marksman for his age but not a legend. If anything the squad would be better known than him as an individual and the rest of them were known to be KIA years ago. In my mind he would have also been marked KIA with the others as he was not so spectacular that anyone would officially assume otherwise. On top of that Livia did her “little visit” sometime after Caz had left and most likely killed a fair number of the people that would actually know Caz. I think at best Fran or someone less important might have an inkling as to who he was, but for the most part there’s nothing and that is a relief to Caz in a sort of self-flagellatory(?) way. No one around to question his “choice”? Cool he doesn’t deserve to have anyone back home thinking about him when he “clearly” wasn’t thinking of them.
But anyway just Caz thoughts I mull over every time I think about why my boy never went back despite getting mad ripped.

Once again I’ve tweaked my FC room aka: “Scion AU Cazhim’s hideaway on the First”. This one obviously has much better reason as they went and gave us crystalline windows and that was always meant to be central to Caz’s bunker. Windows that would be looking out towards Kholusia, albeit through a waterfall. It’s his little slice of the world but he can never fully ignore the world outside.

Custom LBs: Mystic (Garuda)
(Mystic Info)
LB LvI. 1: Divine Dismissal
Type: AoE (Magical)
Cazhim snaps his fingers and the Shade of Garuda appears behind him, lazily reclining in the air while cooling herself with an ornate hand fan. She takes a brief moment to observe the rabble she has been summoned into before calmly waving her fan, unleashing an unexpectedly explosive burst of cutting winds centered on the fools that dared to waste her time. Additional Effect: Adds a weak knockback and applies a 3 second stun to all enemies in the effected area.
LB Lvl. 2: Grace of the Storm
Type: Single Target (Physical)
Cazhim takes a low iaidō stance, ready to draw his blade, and in response the Shade of Garuda appears behind him with a devilish grin peeking from beneath her mask. A quick flourish of her hand releases three brightly glowing green feathers which gently flutter through the air. A moment of anticipation grips the arena, but in a singular precious instant the three feathers align and are just as swiftly cut by Cazhim’s lightning fast strike. The feathers then burst into devastating tornadoes centered on their unfortunate foe tearing them to countless shreds. Additional effect: Target is inflicted with a weak Windburn DoT.
LB Lvl. 3: Breathless
Type: AoE (Magical)
Cazhim takes a deep breath and stabs his blade into the ground, calling forth the Shade of Garuda who plants her odachi in the earth as well. The wind at the edge of the arena begins to whip up as the Shade offers her hand and the two begin to ascend wreathed in gathering winds. Both take a meditative seated position and simply breath, drawing all of the surrounding air into a small bead of aether between them. As the edge of the arena is swallowed by swirling wind and the cries of battle are deafened, the only sound heard is the calm focused breathing of Cazhim and his Shade until both drop the bead of aether causing it to erupt in a column of force, destroying all in reach. Additional Effect: This attack has a range 1.5 times the size of the standard LB3.
Hey! Welcome to the end once again or maybe for the first time. Regardless I hope you enjoyed my limit break idea for my custom Monk-Summoner hybrid class I’m calling “Mystic”.(formerlyThePrimalFistifyouwerearoundforthat). Regardless if you’re interested in more of these custom limit breaks or reading up on the hybrid class you can use the link at the top of the post or browse the tags! As always if you go making your own custom LBs let me know. I’d love to see/read them.

Custom LBs: Mystic (Ifrit)
(Mystic Info)
LB Lvl. 1: Siegebreaker
Type: Line (Physical)
Cazhim raises his hand, summoning the Shade of Ifrit whom quickly begins gathering aether into his mighty lance. With a simple flick of his wrist the command is given and the lance is launched with enough force to easily pierce even the stoutest of defenses and burn a scar into the very earth. Additional Effect: Applies a weakness debuff to all targets for 20 seconds.
LB Lvl. 2: Righteous Pyre
Type: AoE (Magical)
Cazhim takes a low stance and throws his arms out to his sides, in that same instance glowing hot chains shoot out from his arms and ensnare any foe within reach. With his prey now restrained Caz launches himself skywards, dragging all captive souls beneath him. At the apex of his jump the Shade of Ifrit appears behind him, ready to join his master’s attack, as Cazhim gathers the chains in hand and uses them to yank himself down with explosive force. The resulting slam of Cazhim and his Shade creates a tornado of flame for a brief moment before dissipating. Additional Effect: Stuns all targets on activation and applies a mild Burn debuff to all targets for 15 seconds.
LB Lvl.3: Defiant Sol
Type: Single (Physical)
An aura of fiery red aether burst around Cazhim, causing him to buckle over at the sudden heat. This moment of hesitation allows the Shade of Ifrit to seemingly break free of a series of chains binding him to Caz. Now unbound, the Shade leaps away and shortly after the sky darkens and an eclipsed Sun appears in the sky behind the targeted foe. Cazhim rolls his shoulders and takes a wide stance as the Shade of Ifrit rockets forth from the eclipse eager to annihilate the arena. The two clash causing a white hot explosion directly on top of the target for massive damage. The cooldown animation is Cazhim getting knocked back slightly but the Shade is thrown back silently laughing, impressed with his master’s strength before dissipating. Additional Effect: None
Hey thanks for making it to the end. If you are interested in seeing more of whatever a “Mystic” is or want to see what other LBs I’ve made for it see the link at the top of the page! If this got ya thinking about your own ideas for the hybrid class “Mystic” or making your own hybrid class please let me know! I’d love to see what you come up with. I’ll add pictures later once I get back into gpose but for now I’m refining some Custom Class ideas. Look forward to the others!

Duelists’ Dare
“Cazhim and Alisaie’s Dual LB3”
Description:
Cazhim and Alisaie begin next to each other and exchange a quick fist bump before Cazhim jogs a short distance ahead and turns back with his fingers intertwined, ready to give her a boost. Shortly after Alisaie sprints towards him and Cazhim launches her over their foe, the young woman raining down aetheric blades as she flys overhead. “I hope you’re ready for this, little sister!” Cazhim calls out, taking a low stance and gathering crackling aether between his palms. “Just be sure to give it your all this time!”, Alisaie responds in kind as she readies to fire an amplified Resolution spell. The two, in perfect sync, fire their held spells and with immense force they collide on their foe who stands in the crossfire. Their contest continues for a few moments before Cazhim’s aether begins to overwhelm Alisaie’s, sensing this Cazhim alters his stance slightly allowing the beams to shear past each other. The two beams dissipate and Alisaie is bent over catching her breath, “I’ll catch up to you yet…” she huffs before jumping back to Cazhim’s side while he simply shakes off his steaming hand and chuckles “Next time.”

Notes: Since these are suuuuper tough I at least wanna start getting the base descriptions out. Get the juices flowing. As always these are perma WiPs
