THE AMINOACID SWAG TOURNAMENT

Are you a burnt out biology major? Are you an actual researcher who still takes the L by being on tumblr? Do you teach biology and want to be hip with the kids? Stay tuned and vote for your favorite aminoacid!

This blog has been inspired by such delightful blogs such as: @besttship, @autismswagsummit, @weirdgirlshowdown, @baldguy-fight, @blorbopoll, @bisexual-monarch-tournament, @dailylepidopterans and @may-the-best-penguin-win.

For this tournament, I'll make the choice of using a 20 - member bracket, of course. I am sticking to the regular 20 aminoacids for protein synthesis in eucaryotic organisms. The polls will have a time limit of one week. I want to allow plenty of time to get the posts spread around. The polls of the first round will be posted in a few days.

Fun stuff you can do to add to the competition:

Do you have any advice on navigating specialists? I have been experiencing pain in the mid to lower back, hips, and legs for years. But when I saw a rheumatologist and it was a day with no pain, she pretty much just did an MRI and x-ray, and when nothing showed up told me she couldn't help me. I feel that there should have been more investigation, but without anything showing up on MRI or xray, nobody seems to know what to do with me.

i’m sure people try it, and maybe/hopefully some have been successful, but i personally don’t have any faith in trying to convince a doctor who doesn’t believe in nonradiographic and/or seronegative disease that it’s real, so this post is gonna be about finding a doctor to get a second (or third, or so on) opinion.

i’m in the US so i’m gonna assume you’re in a similar system where you access private care / have choice over your provider; for my (very limited) experience with seronegative nonradiographic AS in the NHS, see this post (link) but it’s more about the process and less advice.

unfortunately this is super time-intensive but my process is as follows, assisted heavily by my girlfriend:

we pull up the list of providers covered by my insurance. i open a new spreadsheet.

we go through the list systematically. we check 1) google reviews, 2) reviews on the insurance website if applicable, 3) the provider website.

automatic exclusion criteria: mentions exercise on their website, any patient review says the doctor didn’t believe them, any patient review discusses not being informed of significant treatment side effects. less specifically skill-related and more personal comfort but i also exclude doctors who discuss their christianity and/or military service on their website.

criteria to increase someone’s ranking: website: mentions the conditions i have and/or think i have, mentions pain relief as a priority, discusses importance of staying informed with latest research, has thorough and accurate patient education info. patient reviews: were diagnosed with multiple conditions (especially when previous doctors only considered one), were diagnosed while seronegative and/or nonradiographic, were diagnosed with a rare condition, say the doctor gave them options / asked about and respected their preferred treatment or lack thereof, doctor advocated for them to insurance / work / etc.

i rank the people i haven’t excluded in the spreadsheet, enter their contact information, and go down the list until someone has an appointment available in the time frame i need.

other potentially helpful sources are patient recommendations (with justification) from facebook groups, twitter, tumblr, and probably other sites that i don’t know how to use because this is my only active social media. i think some communities have crowdsourced lists of decent providers and i’m happy to reblog any that folks use.

i’m also happy to post doctor recommendations and requests here if anyone wants to send me endorsements or requests! i would ask that you keep any asks with identifying information such as your location on anon for your privacy & safety :)

you might’ve already seen it but i’ll also add my post (link) about navigating appointments and coping with / resisting medical gaslighting, and my faq tag (link) has more validation & info that might be relevant for you. your symptoms are real, tests including imaging do not tell the full story of disease (or any of the story, for many of us), and i hope you receive quality, compassionate, and affirming care ASAP 🖤🖤

DBD RP/Ask Blog Height Chart Open Collab

What is up gamers, I’m making an open collaboration!!

I really like height charts because they’re good references, and I wanted to put together one with other dbd art/ask blogs, so I am! There’s already been work done on it—the current version has almost 30 characters!—but I want you to add yours, too! If you have a dbd character blog, you’re free to join! Under the read-more I’m gonna put image requirements as well as a couple of templates to help you out if you need it!

If you’re interested, please like/reblog! I’d love to get as many people as I can on this, let’s make this chart long! As always, if you have any questions, message me here on tumblr or on Discord (Lex#6215)!

Requirements:

Art must be done by you or drawn for your specific character and used with permission! If using someone else’s art, let me know so I can credit them properly.

You’re not limited to the characters you can send. OCs, Killer AUs, Entities, etc. are all fine! All art must be SFW though, with exceptions to allow for gore/body horror/etc, but no nudity or anything. The character does need to be dbd related though, so non-DBD AUs won’t be accepted.

Characters should be front-facing (or close to it) in a relatively neutral pose with no perspective and with minimal shading. You can stylize things how you like however!

If you want to send one in, make sure you send it as a Transparent .PNG file (preferably uploaded externally on imgur or discord or similar, to prevent compression), and include along with it the character’s name or nicknames, blog URL, and obviously their height (either ft/in or cm is fine). And I’ll do the rest!

If you need a template I included two below including a Reference Dwight™️, though you don’t have to use them since I’ll resize your character to match the canvas anyhow. Try not to make the character any smaller, though, so the image resizes properly!

so because baron zemo’s been a source of serotonin for me lately as I’ve been trying to work on my fic which makes his snubbing in the current thunderbolts announcement suck all that much more, I thought I’d shoot some outfit photos with my zemo muse doll 💜

I introduced him over on my fandom blog @nbraraeaves when I first got him a while ago - as I think I mentioned in the plush guide I reblogged the other day, I got him from Meizai on etsy a couple years ago a while after I first started from sokovia with love. the coat and shirt he’s wearing are part of the outfit she custom-designed for him! the pants are some generic suit trousers I swapped in, and the boots are actually from a Loki cotton doll I ordered on ebay years ago without really knowing what it was (thus making him my first doll in this style).

anyway, onto this slapdash fashion show that I put together while no one came to my drop-in hour for work lmao 😂

1. I try to have a “casual” outfit for my plushies that travel with me a lot back and forth to my family’s place in TX, and Zemo is one that usually comes with just bc I never know when I’m going to get bit by the from sokovia bug again. I bought him this hoodie bc it’s purple, albeit a different shade from his main color, but I also just really wanted to see him in something cute and silly. (excuse my crooked bow, I’m still working on my technique)

Just modeling the hood up, with a different angle for the embroidered details one might miss on his enormous noble head.

2. I have a puffy pirate shirt that I bought specifically to give my different plushies their macfayden Mr. Darcy moment (minus water obvs), and on Zemo I always think of him being cajoled into posing for a traditional portrait by his parents, maybe when he’s still working his way up through the ranks of EKO Scorpion:

2.5. I’ve been wearing a sword necklace I got a few years ago recently as I’ve been planning chapter 10, and I suddenly desperately needed to know how it would look if I gave it to him to hold -

with some quick thinking to make the chain itself into a sort of harness belt, it turns out he looks quite dashing wielding his family’s ancestral weapon!!

3. then of course I had to see how he looked with his usual coat over top, and definitely got a swashbuckling-‘92 Candyman hybrid vibe that I adore with his little frilly sleeves sticking out 🖤

look at him. isn’t that the cutest shit. what the hell.

4. finally, I don’t have his famous bathrobe yet bc I’m still looking for the right color, but for now, here are his pajamas, which are the closest I’ve managed to come right now:

my next goal outfit is to replicate the first ever art I got for anything I’d ever written, this piece by my buddy Toni aka @imalsonotsure aka @three-stacked-raccons:

I have the pink shirt and glasses, I’m just waiting on the pink cardigan to get to my folks’ house (as it was a birthday gift this past year). I’m sure I’ll post an updated photo from there once I can put it all together!!

Next likely photos will either be chibi!Maxi or his secret alt twin mini!Maxi (long story to be explained), or maybe my bat collection, which is now large and historic as I’ve literally been picking them up since I was a wee baby bat myself. 🦇🖤

anyway, thanks for humoring me and my old camera! I just really love my little plushies, and figured that I might as well start sharing them with others who might like them too 🖤🖤🖤

Absolutely! Thanks for the ask @writingonesdreams!!! ✨

So, since Tumblr limits me to 10 images, I’m going to have to pick them well but I’ll definitely try my best with this one! Trying to capture the aesthetic of every character as well as the world might be hard especially since I only have 10 images, so I’ll try and summarize the tone of the general story, and provide a theme/aesthetic for the WIP as a whole!

I have made a post in an awesome tag game about my main character, Caspian, in this post and might reuse a few images from there, as well as from my post with the Circa Specturgia Lootbox, another wonderful tag game that gives a bit of insight into the vibe! Feel free to check it out if you’re interested!

Circa Specturgia

The planet of Istra is a mysterious one… The further you venture from civilization, more dangerous and wild the world get, with remnants of an ancient time now long passed, and yet, still echoing…

Natural beauty fills every inch and niche of the world, every continent with its own sprawling beauties and wonders! Mountains that stretch a dozen kilometers to the heavens, oceans deep and hiding secrets from before time, two moons shining in the sky above, fields of Lavenda and golden wheat, forests of trees that stretch from earth to heaven…

Be careful. Do not venture too far. Do not seek the things that should not be known. Do not overstay your welcome. The world may show you marvelous things, so enjoy them, and then move on, for it is not a world that will let you rest idly.

But in those moments, those quiet, calm epiphanies…? You will find the greatest rewards of wanderlust if you chose to be brave and take the proper care, if you respect the world for the entity that it is, and take heed to notice when it shows you something beautiful. Magic exists everywhere, ancient, or blooming, and it brings light to all corners of the world…

Tone

Since I think color palette and atmosphere of the world was handled above, I want to go through the tone of the story, as opposed to the tone of the world!

I wouldn’t write a tragedy nor a grimdark story as it’s just not my cup of tea. I want to see my characters succeed, against and in spite of the odds, to see them struggle and bleed and face a world that challenges their humanity, but which is a wonder to explore, to see, to discover, which pushes them to fight, to grit their teeth and to push onwards, and then to breathe and smile, on a beautiful vista spread before them.

I’d say the tone isn’t upbeat and cheery, but it isn’t grim and dark. The world is, the world. It’s complex, constantly turning, as time passes, and people do things that people do. Some laugh, and smile together, some yell, and war on each other. It is a vibrant place, and with vibrant people, and it’s the characters that breathe life into the story!

The characters will struggle, and they may fail and be hurt, but they will get up again, and they will prevail, in their own ways, and heal, and learn.
