Loser Monologue (Nathan Prescott)

A/n: ah! this is my first tumblr post and first time writing a fanfic (If thats what you'd call it?!?) in 6 years. Let me know if i should fix anything ig?!? this fic is inspired by loser monologue by sign crushes motorist

Blackwell Academy stood as a silent witness to the echoes of a past that still haunted Nathan Prescott's thoughts. The corridors whispered of friendships forgotten and fractured. Among those memories, there was one that resonated deeper than the rest, one person who had left an indelible mark on his heart. She had been the light to his darkness, a friend who had seen through the façade he presented to the world. She had held his secrets and his pain, offering understanding and compassion when he needed it most. They had shared countless conversations, a bond that transcended the superficial, and yet, his own demons had driven them apart.

His heart ached as he remembered the stolen moments he had spent gazing at her photographs, his imagination weaving scenarios that would never come to pass. He wished he could turn back time, rewrite the story that had led them to this point. The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the campus. Nathan stood in the shadows of his dorm. He traced his fingers over a sketch she had left behind, her talent evident in every stroke. The memory of their laughter, their shared dreams, flooded his senses.

His feelings for her had grown beyond friendship, beyond the boundaries of his understanding. The depth of his emotions terrified him, leaving him torn between the fear of rejection and the longing to hold her close. Nathan sat on a bench in the campus garden, the moonlight casting a soft glow around him. His thoughts were a whirlwind of memories, regret, and a love he had never been able to comprehend. He murmured his regrets into the night, the words a whispered plea to a universe that seemed indifferent: "I wish you'd look at me the way I look at you. I wish I could be with you."

Weeks turned into months, and Nathan's determination to mend his broken pieces grew stronger. He sought therapy, confronted his fears, and wrestled with the tangle of emotions within him. But the memories of her continued to haunt him, her absence a void he could never quite fill. He stood before a shoebox hidden under his bed, its contents a collection of photographs that chronicled their time together. He had tried to get rid of them, to erase the reminders of what he had lost, but he couldn't bring himself to let go. Each photo was a piece of her he could hold onto, a tether to a time when he had felt normal, when he had felt alive.

He closed his eyes, allowing himself to be transported back to those moments when her laughter had been his lifeline, her presence a balm to his scars. He found himself drawn to the glow of the school's art gallery. A soft hum of voices and the dim light spilled from within. Curiosity tugged at him, urging him to step inside.

As he entered the gallery, his eyes widened in surprise. The walls were adorned with artwork, some of it hers. Vibrant paintings that captured a kaleidoscope of emotions and stories littered the wall. A harsh contrast to the monochrome pieces Nathan gravitated to. Each canvas seemed to hold a piece of her heart, a glimpse into her world that he had missed in their time apart.

And there, in the center of the gallery, she stood, her back turned to him as she spoke to a group of art enthusiasts. The sight of her was a reminder of the bond they had shared and the emotions he had suppressed for far too long.

He moved closer, his heart pounding in his chest. His eyes roamed over her, taking in the way her hair cascaded down her shoulders, the grace with which she moved, the passion that radiated from her very being. It was as if the gallery held not just her art, but her essence, her spirit.

Nathan's gaze shifted to a particular painting—a canvas that depicted a couple beneath a starlit sky, their silhouettes locked in a tender embrace. It was a scene that felt achingly familiar, as if it echoed the unspoken longing he had carried for her all these years.

The words he had held back, the feelings he had concealed, surged to the surface. The urge to reach out, to finally voice his emotions, grew irresistible. He took a hesitant step forward, his voice quivering as he called her name

Hugging Dethklok Hcs

depending on how im feeling after posting this i think i might make a second part including side characters (likely the second post will contain charles abigail and knubbler !! and maybe even some smaller characters that i feel deserve more love) anyways uhuhuh first official MTL post except it.. actually isnt, ive written for knubbler and the dethklok minute host before so yeah very nervous about this since im still trying to find my footing in how i wanna write the characters, so heads up that this might be VERY OOC and what better prompt to do than do one of my "i dont know what to write" ones written with reader as their partner vague mentions of like. sexual stuff but nothing explicit, i still wish to keep this blog as sfw as possible, really just implications of it than anything also some characters had bonus hcs of cuddling so uhuhuh

NATHAN:

built like a mattress, though that can mean anything since not all mattresses are made the same... hmm.. have you ever hugged/cuddled one of those tiny headed kingdom plushies? very firm but not comfortable, i think thats what nathan feels like, but perhaps just a smidge softer. but how would nathan feel? i mean hes very protective of you, and being able to hold you gives him a moment to keep you close. not very affectionate otherwise, but this is nice. definitely the type to do hugs from behind, especially if theres someone trying to flirt with you

PICKLES:

short so theres a good chance youre around his height if not taller and he may or may not feel things about that (both negative and positive but lets save that for another post as i fully intend on keeping this sfw), i always thought pickles of being physically affectionate so him having a hand on you is a common occurrence. probably takes the opportunity to whisper something in your ear, usually something dirty or something incoherent with him being drunk or otherwise under the influence. oh yeah i can easily see him being the type to swing his limbs over his partner while he sleeps and trapping them there

TOKI:

probably the easiest to hug in terms of getting him to accept it, actually i think he might be the most likely to initiate one alongside pickles. very warm, though he sometimes hugs you a little too tight and might even tug you back in if you try to pull away before hes ready. full body cuddles into you when you guys sleep/nap together, arms and legs keep you in place so... good luck trying to slip away before he wakes up. i like to think he fiddles with your hair, too, though im unsure if that fits with his character... i think that, despite still having a love for all things brutal he still likes these smaller moments of just. affection. very clingy and possessive though so keep that in mind, i think he would hold you and physically try to pull you away if someone tries to flirt with you; a lot less subtle than when nathan does it

Welcome to the Campfire AU! This blog gets lots of asks everyday so it can be kind of hard to find the basics of everything. So hopefully this can answer your questions if you’re new to the blog!

The AU doesn’t really have a plot. Just the sides being teens dealing with everyday stuff. The reason of why it’s called Campfire AU it’s because it all started with a comic where they went camping, but in all honestly it isnt even about camping at this point. Whoops!

What’s the AU about?

Are there any ships?

This AU is 100% platonic! Many people get confused mainly because Dee and Remus are usually kinda flirty with each other. But they’re literally just messing around. Although, Vee and Logan get together in college (If this ship makes you uncomfortable, you can block the ‘’cf!analogical’’ tag!). But besides that, nothing else.

Is Thomas/Remy/Emile/etc in this AU?

Yes, but actually no.

Thomas and his crew are in this AU. BUT!!!! They have a very small, unsignificant role. Kind of like a cameo. They’re some cool yet scary looking monsters that appear on Vee's dreams. Vee also has a bat plushie named Count Joan.

And Remy and Emile are Patton’s super cool toads. They just vibe.

What are the characters in the AU?

Primary characters: Patton, Roman, Logan, Virgil, Janus (who still goes by Dee), and Remus.

Secondary characters: King Creativity (Romulus), The Dragon Witch (DW), Annika (Vee’s biological mom), Celeste (Dee’s biological mom), and Mama and Papa Ruiz (Roman, Remus, and Romulus’ parents), Azariah, Nona, and Poppy (Dee and Remus' group of friends at school)

We dont really talk that much about Logan’s parents nor Patton’s dad, but they’re still there.

Blog’s ‘’Inside Jokes’’

The blog has some inside jokes that newcomers usually dont understand because they’re so bizarre and out of context, so here’s a quick guide. Beware, these are very dumb. I would like to apologize in advance:

The Jirt Dar: Its a jar full of dirt that Vee carries around and makes their friends put their hands inside of it if they catch them swearing.

The Sock Shirt: Remus owns a plain white shirt with the word ‘’sock’’ handwritten. That’s it. I have no idea why people find that hilarious.

Boneless Logan: Logan once had this theory that since he had never broken any bones in the past, he was, in fact, boneless. And still claims it to this day. Before you ask, no. He’s not serious about believing that, he just claims it to annoy or make people laugh. Has he ever broke a bone after that claim? Yes, he has.

‘‘Addy’‘: ‘’Addy’‘ is a nickname Vee has for Dee and it immediately triggers his Big Brother Mode because Vee only calls him that in scenarios when they’re sad, sick, etc.

‘‘Patton with an E‘‘: When Vee and Patton first met, Patton had pointed out their last names where the same, except his had an ‘e’ at the end, and Vee thought it was pretty funny. Nowadays Patton sometimes introduces himself as ‘‘Patton with an E’‘ only to make Vee chuckle.

Hello! My name is Hay/Danny/OP i really dont mind how you refer to me as. I decided to make a little about me because I feel like I should set some boundaries for the sake of my mental health, basically some "please do not do this" because theyre personally triggering for me or make me uncomfortable.

Character’s specifics

(Before we start, I’d like to mention that the sides are quite further away from canon. Its called an AU for a reason, if you dont like how they’re portrayed, that’s fine, but please do not complain because, again, its an AU for a reason.)

Patton: Patton is a complicated character. Let’s say hes bittersweet.

Pat has a very complicated relationship with his family, which would be the main reason of his anger issues and poor self esteem. He doesnt have any siblings and his mother left when he was around 9 years old. Leaving him only with his dad. Who is currently the Mayor. As time passed by, Patton as his dad started becoming extremely distant. Patton tried to fix his relationship with his father for a very good while. But nothing seemed to work, so he gave up and nowadays avoids him as much as he can.

At school Patton puts on this happy-go-lucky facade and hes known for being a very sweet and happy guy. Mainly because hes ashamed of the fact that hes, in his words, “an angry person.”

So he tries to come up with a friendly “mask”. Colorful clothes, and round glasses. Because colorful and round things come out as friendly, right?

Patton rarely wears black, unless it something like jeans or shoes. The thought of wearing all black will never cross his mind because hes so desperate to try and come off as a friendly guy.

But with his friends is a whole different story, Patton allows himself to be “his true self”, he allows himself to be mad at some things, he stops repressing the “ugly feelings”, he actually swears, and plays around in a more “rough” way in general. All in good terms, it will never be his intention to hurt his friends.

Facts:

Sophomore in highscool

Vee's best friend. They met each other in 7th grade because Vee was new in school.

He’s on the cheerleading team. Meaning that he’s quite strong, agile, and even flexible. Emphasis on strong. He once broke a guy’s nose because he was harrassing a girl.

Has been doing gymnastics since he was very little

He’s pescetarian. He strongly avoids meat, but still eats fish.

Vee: Vee is a rather hyperactive person, and is very into mysterious subjects, such as cryptids, the paranormal, you get the vibe. They aren’t really that anxious, but the anxiety is still there. Especially when it’s about people they don’t know. Once they warm up to you, they barey shut up.

Vee still has some anxiety issues because they were bullied from 3rd grade to 6th grade and never said a word to anyone. Whenever their mom picked them up she’d always notice how sad they looked, sometimes even with puffy eyes from crying. But no matter how hard she tried, Vee would never tell her anything out of pure fear they’d get in trouble. The moment Vee admitted everything, she immediately changed them from that school.

On 7th grade they met Patton, and he was pretty much the one who managed to make Vee come out of their shell, he never forced them to do something they didn’t want to, but he slowly started to introduce them into doing new things that Vee once considered scary.

Vee had made huge progress regarding their self esteem thanks to Pat. And they are now trying to make the exact same thing for Patton.

Theirs and Dee’s moms were best friends in college (Dee’s dad was also Annika’s childhood friend). So these two have known each other since Vee was born. When they were 11-12 years old, their and Dee’s moms got married.

They keep a dream journal. But if you happen to read it, you’ll realize that what’s written are not dreams, but nightmares. There are some drawings of monsters in some pages, even.

They says that they’re not scared of most of them, though. That they’re used to it.

Dee: He’s the most calm guy in the whole group. Usually the leader, even. He’s either a very responsible big brother with Vee or an absolute chaotic teenager with Remus. There’s no in between.

Dee has a really hard time trusting people, the only people he genuinely trusts are Remus, Vee, and his moms (Roman, Patton, and Logan are there too, but not as much as the ones mentioned.)

Dee’s parents got divorced when he was around 8. And his and Vee's moms got married when he was 14-15 years old. To this day his relationship with his dad is kind of complicated. He doesnt hate him, but he’s not quite sure how to feel about him. He calls every now and then to check up on him, and he appreciates it, but those calls usually end up with Dee feeling sort of awkward afterwards.

There isn’t much to say about him, mostly because hes very reserved with pretty much everyone. But hey, between us? Hes has a very soft spot for Vee

He’s 100% sure that he’s bisexual. But the fact that he has such a hard time trusting people makes it hard for him to imagine himself in a relationship.

Remus: He’s your local hyperactive guy that lives for that sweet, sweet adrenaline. He’s always looking for reckless things to do and he ALWAYS drags Dee to them (not like he minds). But he’s also a very loyal friend, especially to Dee. If he asked Remus for a favor he’d be 100% willing to do ANYTHING without doubts. He’s also highly protective over Vee, Patton, and Logan because theyre the youngest of the group.

His and Roman’s relationship went from horrible to amazing. Him and Roman absolutely despised each other when they were little, if they were put in the same room, 99% of the time they’d end up fighting, as time went by, they started to avoid each other as much as possible, then they kind of tolerated each other, but still never spent much time together. When Remus found Roman chopping his hair off while bawling his eyes out at 2 in the morning, their relationship definitely started to change for the best.

Roman: He’s the kindest and sweetest guy in the group. Hes always willing to help and listen to whoever needs it. He’s actually quite popular at school because of the fact that hes so kind. A ray of sunshine. Roman had a very hard time for a good while, but it all crumbled down on him on his freshman year. He felt super lonely, was absolutely lost with who he was as a person and had no idea who he wanted to be, what he wanted to do with his life, etc. He struggled with school and his grades dropped horribly because he had so much in his mind. No matter how hard he tried to concentrate, he just couldnt focus in school. He ended up repeating the year.

Like it was mentioned before, his relationship with Remus went from horrible to amazing. Unfortunately for them, because of this, they barely have childhood memories to look back to. But now they’re trying their best to make up for it. Roman would say that his and Remus relationship got better when Roman repeated his freshman year; Remus apologized to him for a straight hour because he admitted to notice Roman having a hard time, but decided to ignore it because he was “too damn prideful”. After that, little by little, they became closer.

Logan: First things first, while Logan is smart, he isn’t super smart, at least not academically speaking. He has really good grades, but he isn’t a straight A student. People tend to assume he’s a gifted student because of the fact that he skipped a year. But in reality that only happened because he had an advanced reading and writting comprehension so they made him skip first grade.

Logan used to be quite a loner when he was younger, and he was way too serious and cold because of it. When he met Roman, Logan realized that he was actually unhappy back then, and little by little he started to losen up more, joking around and not really minding what people think of it. Now look at him! He’s absolutely chaotic and his favorite hobby is annoying Patton (in a loving way, dont worry.). He still has a somewhat ‘’smart kid’’ reputation at school, but those people in his class are aware that he jokes around every now and then and is actually super chill. He’s known for either fixing people’s laptops/cellphones/tablets or because he can write your essays. He definitely makes money out of both of these things. Unless you’re his friend, he’ll do it for free

Lo’s parents work a lot and travel every now and then because of it. So they are barely home. But they still talk and text quite often. If his parents happen to be travelling, they videochat. But because of this Logan is most of the time alone at home and learned to be VERY independent. Not like he brags about it, but hes kind of proud of it.

Because of his parents always being away, and the fact that Logan is an only child and never had any friends growing up, he learned to do many things in an attempt to fight the boredom, some of those things are cooking, fixing his own laptop, crafts (im talking about, cosplay worthy crafts), origami, among other things.

Yes, he also loves videogames way too much. Sometimes he messes his sleep schedule because he stays up late playing (usually with Patton)

Plays guitar. Learned how to do so one time he was burned out, and his dad suggested he learned something entirely knew, like playing an instrument. Nowadays he really enjoys it and plays very often.

He could learn how to drive. But he 100% prefers using his bike

He actually despises school and complains about it and about how flawed the educational system is on a daily basis

Ends up making a very last minute decision and going to an art school to study music composition instead of economics

hi i’ve noticed the pencey prep gay conversation going on over on @awsugar and i have spent lots of time dissecting pencey prep lyrics and subjecting nathan @faggot-frank to my deranged ramblings so Here is my pencey prep super ultra mega gay lyrical analysis masterpost. it’s very long so its all under the cut but i will include a TL;DR for those who dont wanna read paragraphs of my deranged ramblings: Pencey prep uses lots of themes of: heartbreak, forbidden love, keeping love a secret, and toxic relationships. which none of that is gay on its own but combined with them almost never using gender indicators in their songs and the “nail in the coffin song” of 8th grade it ends up being a very Fruity Album.

I will be going through heart break in stereo in order and pointing out which lyrics and elements of certain songs jump out to me as Super Mega Gay and then summarizing my conclusions at the end <3

1 ) PS Don't Write

PS don't write is about leaving a toxic relationship, it has notes of moving on and leaving someone behind. "packed up all my shit / stole back all my tapes / left your spare key under the mat / this is not a joke / you'd better learn to take a hint / 'cause i'm not coming back / maybe you'll understand / when you're waking up alone / in a cold and empty bed." it has no gender indicators or pronouns which is the case in a lot of pencey prep songs, and something i'll bring up quite a bit. it also has general "coming of age" themes, something common in lots of pencey prep songs. which Yeah apply to straight people to but read in this context combined with future evidence can be pretty Fuckin Gay. "somewhere along the line / i found a hidden strength / i didn't know i had / standing on my own / cutting all the strings / that you used to control / surprise surprise / i am long gone / if you thought you could hold me down / by holding me up / you were wrong / you don't call the shots anymore." not to say only gay people can find inner strength and the room to love themselves but combined with other context it is a really poignant message about accepting yourself for who you are.

2) Yesterday

Yesterday is very repetitive and has a lot less to analyze, but the constant themes of wanting to "run away" strike me as very Fruity. once again, not saying gay people are the only people who can want to run away or escape from something But Combined With Other Context. and once again a song with no gender indicators, doesnt specify who the speaker is running away with or what they are running away from. just that they want to Leave. "i wanna run with you / i don't care what we do / gotta get out of this place / because it feels like yesterday." also saying "it feels like yesterday" could mean that the town feels backwards or old timey in its beliefs, implying homophobia. how the speaker wants to run away from an old fashioned town.

3) Don Quixote

i'm going to bring up the cultural significance of this title and literary reference first. Don Quixote is a classical novel by Cervantes which is about a crazy dude who thinks he's a knight, and goes on weird adventures with his best friend. It's typically used as a symbol of following your dreams and breaking free from what people expect of you. In the context of the song its used as a symbol of following your dreams with Someone. once again this someone is given no gender indicators. "you say it's not worth it / been burned too many times / if your spine's receding / you can borrow some of mine / don't go and quit right now / cause i'd follow you through hell." "you say so many things / and not a word of it was true / if you're still in that state of mind / i'd still vacation inside of you / cause i think you're worth every minute / and every dime that i spend / i'd spend all my time fighting dragons / just to keep you alive and talking." it's about wanting to spend time with someone, wanting to be with them no matter what. and its also about how this person feels unreachable, like being with them would be a fairytail but the speaker Still Reaches for it. "your imaginations running wild / round your deceptive heart / this is my crusade / and you're the unreachable star / but i'm reaching." talking about this person being unreachable and unattainble. which isnt gay By Itself but again combined with the other context. FRUIT BEHAVIOR.

4) 10 Rings

another breakup song once again with no gender indicators, are you guys sensing a theme here? anyways this song is about someone cutting you off and then coming back suddenly wanting to talk again after breaking your heart. it has a sense of forbidden love, like this person Told the speaker they cant be together for Whatever Reason ;] and is now trying to come back and repair their mistake when the speaker is already hurt and reeling. "learn to live with decisions you make / i learned things from the break i can't forget / catch you doing drive-bys at 1 AM / it must kill you to know we can't be friends." "end of the summer you cut me off / i cut you out all the pictures i have." which this Isnt Gay By Itself. but bringing that phrase back with other context this is such a uniquely gay experience. being in love with someone and they cut you off Because theyre weirded out by that and then they try to come back, convince you it meant nothing.

5) The Secret Goldfish

my FAVORITE pencey song. this one has a lot. it's another breakup song about heartbreak and loss and im not even gonna dwell on the no gender indicators because yall see the theme now. it has themes of heartbreak and losing someone who is very close to you and having to let go of them and having to accept that this person cant be yours and you cant be with them. "land of the lost / i found myself in nothing / this time, promises broken find me / clutching to you for something / something that you're not / believing in what you say / it makes me lie awake at night / the truth, the truth is not what scares me / it's why you have to lie / all the time." here we see these themes of having to let someone go because they just Aren't The Same as you. "clutching to you for something / something that you're not." maybe like chasing after a straight boy and getting rejected? also the repetition of "heartbreak is forever" when you're young and gay losing that first person you felt some kind of love and attraction to can feel like the end of the world and can be a huge deal because of the lack of representation and guidance young gays get. and the themes of nothing lasting forever, the fact that gay people never get promised eternal love the same way straight people do.

6) 8th Grade

this song is the nail in penceys fucking coffin honestly. the rest of these songs have a lot of plausible deniability, just vague enough to maybe Not Be Gay. but framed in the context of 8th grade they all start to get a lil fruity. Im just gonna go through lyric by lyric for this one. "caught staring again / like a deer in the headlights / when you can't move fast enough / i take a hit for the team / pretty girl is blushing / i can't tell if she's disgusted / laughter starts to swell / someone gets the joke." this kid was staring at some cute boy ass and got caught and everyone is laughing at him for being gay. the "pretty girl" here is what most people think he's staring at but with the rest of the song it's obvious she's not the one he's looking at. "bells ring, i make my escape / helps a little, but doesn't save / beat downs a common thing / with us every day / maybe im just strange / cause i dont change schools / so maybe i like the abuse / or maybe i just like you." literally This is the nail in penceys fucking coffin. "maybe i like the abuse or maybe i just like you." this kid purposefully takes beatings from his bully who is Obviously male if you take into context the next verse. because he Likes Him. "maybe im just strange / cause i dont change schools" literally willingly taking beatings from his bully bc he has a crush. "another confrontation / you've got something to prove / your girl can't tell how tough you are / when you beat me up in the boys room." this just confirms that the subject of the song is a boy, and a tough macho boy with something to prove. maybe also hiding his own internalized homophobia through bullying? "well i made a big mistake / but i can't help who i like / this may not cost my life / but i am branded forever lame." LITERALLY ITS RIGHT IN YOUR FACE. "can't help who i like" "branded forever lame" do i even need to fucking explain this oh my god. he got outed as gay, he Can't Help Who He Likes and is now branded forever as "the gay kid." the rest of the song is general "im gonna get back at my bully" stuff but literally THIS. THIS is the song that brands all penceys other very vague songs as 100% verified super mega ultra gay.

7) 19

this song has a lot less, and is more about internal struggle than anything. but it is the only song with a "she" pronoun in it. but there is one thing i wanna mention. "I scream out loud / but no one hears a sound / i take my life with lack of sleep / i believe the things i feel / the things i see are fooling only me." this song is about not believing what the world shows you, believing what you think is true in your heart and what You feel. not what anyone else tells you. which is a gay experience. believing in yourself and your heart and your feelings, believing theyre right and theyre true and valid. Also this song has a significance in coming right after 8th grade on the album, going from being 13 to 19, from being unsure in your feelings and angry about the people who dont like you to lost and hopeless but somewhat grounded in yourself.

8) Trying To Escape The Inevitable

this song is about an abusive and toxic relationship, knowing you Need to escape it but being so infatuated with the person you literally cant. “i have this reoccurring dream / you make it hard for me to breathe / i gave you everything i could / i gave up everything i owned / and when you smile it’s not for me / you offer little sympathy / your grasp so far exceeds your reach / i wake up, this is not a dream.” “i have this reoccuring dream / where you admit that you’re not happy / i know that you will never leave / you’re here just to torment me.” which like again this isnt an exclusively gay experience but it is very interesting when framed that way. in that gay people are way more likely to throw themselves into abusive and toxic relationships because they dont feel like they can get anybody else. the repetition of “i know i should run” makes it seem like the speaker Knows he should get out but he just Cant because what if he never finds love again? and the little reprise in the middle “i have a new dream / and everything is perfect / the sky is pink, yellow, green, blue, and orange / and all the past has been forgotten / and we fell in love / and we fell in love / and we fell in love / and i fell into your trap.” implying that even if he escapes, even in his dreams he still falls for this person because he feels like he cant have anything else.

9) Lloyd Dobbler

another love song about wanting to have someone but not being able to because of Unspecified Forbidden Reasons. “why are you so far away / even when you’re standing next to me? / your eyes give you away / telling secrets your mouht don’t feel like talking.” falling in love with someone, maybe sensing that they like you too. that they Are Like You and that they have a Secret they dont want to vocalize. do i even need to explain it at this point? and in the chorus “That I’ll be your lloyd dobbler / with a boom box out in the street / and i’ll be there if you need someone / even if he isn’t me.” saying you’ll be there for someone even if that person isn’t you, also the use of Pronouns which is big for pencey prep. which yes the use of “even if he isnt me” could imply a straight girl ooorrr....Fruit Behavior. also this line “There’s a norman rockewll painting / of two kids sitting on a bench / it reminds me of all the stupid things / i’d like for us to share, but i dont care.” normal rockwell is a painter that paints traditionally “american” scenes. like the american ideal, that maybe he wants with this person. but he knows he cant have, but its stupid and domestic and he wants it but he Cant Have It because of FRUIT BEHAVIOR.

10) Florida Plates

another of my favorite pencey songs, and this one brings back those tragic “love but we cant have it” themes, except with a more somber tone. instead of being angry or resentful or spiteful in the face of adversity. its an Acceptance, of what they had and how good it was and how it just Cant Last. “kiss a mouth to open eyes / stall one last moment before goodbye / drive in different cars in different directions / never write all the letters full of good words, better intentions / it’s for the best although we don’t know it / paper words will cheapen the moments we shared / it’s better if i say nothing at all.” it’s about knowing you have to leave someone, even if having them in the moment is great they Can’t Stay and you can’t even talk or write about the moments you had. which do i even need to explain it at this point? forbidden love, not being able to have each other, not even being able to Talk about it. its a secret, and painful one but its beautiful while you have it. Conclusion alright!!! thank you so so much if you read all the way through that i Know it was long i Know it was a lot of repetition but i wanted to make my point. pencey prep has very big gay themes in their music. with forbidden love, letting go, heartbreak, keeping secrets, toxic realtionships. which none of it is gay on its own but in the context of: almost none of the songs having clear gender indicators and always speaking really vaguely about the subject and Eight Grade the “nail in the coffin song” you can see my point thank you and goodnight.

the plus one pact - william nylander by @puckinghell : listen the growth that the reader and willy go through individually in this story makes their ending so much sweeter. we love dynamic characters baby. also just imagine willy as your plus one to every event. like savor it. so good. i loved this series.

4 times you thought he would kiss you & 1 time he did - travis dermott by @jasondickinsons : this is so good. i’m a sucker for all the almost moments, and the ending could not have been more perfect. the way that kylie writes details gets my stomach turning literally everytime i read her writing. this is a story you can obsess over.

stuck with you - matthew tkachuk & vince dunn by @bandgirlsclub : tumblr made me love both of these guys and im not mad about it. this is so good. i was so conflicted about who i wanted the reader to end up with for the first three chapters but in the end it all works out. the bubble hockey fic you all need to read.

the one who needs saving - noah hanifin by @antoineroussel : i haven’t seen too many hanny fics on this site and that’s a damn shame bc that mans is a total cutie- and this fic def shows that. they form a friendship in the oddest of ways but they way that the reader and noah are there for each other makes my heart swell. i wasnt expecting it to end the way it did and i loved it! this was such a good read go see for yourself.

Hi, im the anon who talked about vds/lukes. Tbh i was a little bit hurt by your answer as you were a bit agressive and didn't get what I'm trying to say at all. I don't want more people to ship Lukes, Idc about it, Skam nl is dead anyway, I just want to understand why VDS is a thing, as for ME it seems like they give attention to only white males. But more like a general thing and I used them as exemple. I guess it's hard to write my feelings in English but I'll try to tell you better ( part 1)

(Part 2) The fact that they're not from the same skam verse is something that we could put behind. My problem is with this fandom in general ( I took vds as an example to explain better) is that they tends to give too much attention to only this type of couple! I wanted to have a talk with you about the treatment of only white couple vs ones with pocs but you didn't get what I meant. Anyway I just don't seem to use correct English as it's not my language so I give up, have a good day.

(3) And btw, when you day that the fandom it's that "shallow", just be real, don't look only at your friends, but globally. A lot of them are only here for s3, don't care about the actual poc yasmina and luca. moyo is only a bit treated better. It's shows that some of them is only here for one reason, as I don't see a lot of supports ( arts, fics...) for Yasmina. When s3 haven't even started there was a lot of fics for bel!even. But anyway, just do you.

For the record, I said “the fandom IS NOT that shallow”. And I’m sorry if my answer was a bit aggresive, but you also should know that your last sentences about the people who ships VDS are bunch of fetishizers isn’t right and also rude imo. It’s not a word to be thrown away that easily and lightly because it’s a serious matter. But anyway, as I said before, if we’re talking about the races, even wtfam not even sure if Jens (Nathan Bouts) is white or not, he could be mixed—maybe 60% poc too, maybe we’ll never know for sure. While I’m 100% agreed about poc couple should get much attention, but unfortunately, we couldn’t get to decide nor control what people like or not because it’s a prerogative rights. whats up ladies im back with pt 1 of a series (ion know how long it’ll be yet but lmk if you wanna be added to the taglist!)

summary: shawn’s a little too late and you’re a little too tired, but maybe it’s not too late for things to change?

“She has a what?”

Geoff sighs exasperatedly at his friend, who’s eyes look like they’re about to burst out of his head.

“A boyfriend, Shawn. She has a boyfriend.”

The poor boy looks like he’s run a marathon, his hair unruly from the countless amount of times he’s ran his fingers through them. His usually rosy cheeks are noticeably more flushed, although Geoff can’t tell if it’s from anger or stress. Both would be a safe bet, he thinks.

Honestly, he wasn’t that surprised when Y/N casually mentioned a new boyfriend during their little catch up a few days ago. She and Shawn had history for sure, if you could even call it that. It wasn’t exactly a friends with benefits situation—no, it was more a “I’m not ready to commit but I want love” kinda thing. At least on Shawn’s end. Geoff was certain that Y/N was ready ages ago, but Shawn just never bothered to go beyond whatever strange relationship they had.

“No, no, you’ve gotta be fuckin’ kidding. I swear to god, Geoff, if you’re messing with me...”

Geoff meets his gaze sympathetically, “You guys were never even officially together, were you? The poor girl probably got tired of waiting around.”

Shawn glares at his friend, huffing, “No, but I thought we both knew, you know? You don’t see me going out with random girls!”

“Maybe you should’ve done something about it to make sure she would continue not seeing other guys. It’s really your fault if you think about it,” Geoff points out. He’s being a little harsh, he knows, but it’s what Shawn needs to hear. He’s in deep, but he’s got absolutely no clue what to do with himself. Shawn doesn’t respond to his observation, however, instead opting to chew on his lip and sulk in silence.

“What are you scared of? Commitment?” He probes. Shawn looks up at him frustratedly, eyes tired.

“No, it’s not-it’s not that!”

“Then what?”

“…I don’t know,” Shawn admits, voice low. Geoff feels bad for his friend, he really does, but he can’t help but sigh. There’s nothing he can do if Shawn wasn’t even ready to accept that he needed to figure out his own problems before confronting Y/N about…whatever it was between them. He licks his lips, choosing his words carefully before he speaks.

“Why don’t you ask yourself what it is, then? Figure it out, understand why it never worked out. Then maybe you can sit down and talk to her about it,” he offers. Shawn meets his gaze resignedly and he nods slowly. Geoff stands and pats him on the back, checking his pockets for his phone and keys, “I’ll leave you to it, then.”

Shawn isn’t sure what it is about her that’s gotten him so hooked. She’s pretty, yes, but she’s not the model type that he so often finds himself surrounded by. Regardless, he finds her beautiful in a different kind of way that was just so uniquely her, and it draws him in in a way that he just can’t seem to escape. It isn’t just her looks that he finds attractive, though—he isn’t that shallow, his parents raised him better—but who she is. They just click together so well, balancing each other out where one runs a little short and the other has a little too much. (That’s what couples are like, right? They match each other.) He supposes it’s only fitting that he’d want someone like her so bad; no one understands him quite as well as she does and there was certainly no one else that had been there for him through thick and thin. She had seen both the worst and best parts of him (and he can say for sure that the worst parts were truly bad), just as he had seen the best and worst parts of her (he can’t quite say the same for her, but maybe he’s just biased?). Sure, sometimes they argue because she’s just a bit too closed off and he’s just a bit too angry, but he honestly wouldn’t change a damn thing.

Well, maybe not a damn thing except for the fact that she was dating someone who wasn’t him.

Shawn groans in annoyance, tugging at the roots of his hair for what must’ve been the umpteenth time in the past hour. Ever since Geoff left he’s been sitting and thinking, just like he told him to. ‘Figure it out,’ right? Sounded simple, but with his luck, it turned out to be just that much harder. He thought it’d be easy for him to sort out his feelings; for someone who so often wore their heart on their sleeve he didn’t think there would be so many conflicting thoughts bouncing around inside his head. At this point, he can’t even distract himself with anything. He’s tried writing, he’s tried picking at his guitar, and he’s even tried stress baking (ironically, that was an idea he got from Y/N, so he figures there’s really no point in trying to avoid thinking about her since it’s clearly not working out), despite knowing that he can’t bake. At all.

So here he is, moping around by himself in his dirty kitchen with a disaster that could barely pass as a meager attempt at sugar cookies. He’d say the silence was suffocating, but truthfully, he just wants his brain to shut up because his thoughts are getting too damn loud.

“I need to get a fucking grip,” he mutters.

Decidedly done with sulking in his condo, Shawn brushes off as much flour as he can from his clothes and hair before grabbing his keys and making his way outside. Thankfully there don’t seem to be any stalker fans waiting for him today (He still didn’t understand—how did they even know where he lived? And didn’t they have better things to do than camp out just so they could jump him? It gives him the creeps just thinking about it). Starting up his jeep, he begins the short drive to that little cafe he always seemed to frequent. Caffeine probably wasn’t going to help his situation at all, but he needs to be somewhere that’s not his apartment.

He rolls the window down a little, the cool breeze a welcome change. Shawn loves tour life, really, but there’s just some things about being home that can’t beat tour life. He absolutely adores driving, and that’s something that he just can’t do on tour. But at home? No one gets to drive his jeep except him, and he’d be damned if he didn’t drive everywhere. Relaxed, he hums along to the radio, John Mayer blasting through the speakers at nearly full volume. Soon enough, the recognizable sign falls into view. The spot he always manages to park in is empty as usual, and he’s glad that something seems to be going his way, at least. Unfortunately, Shawn finds that he’s a little quick to say anything, given that he nearly does a double take when he sees someone he’s a little too familiar with inside the cafe.

There’s a girl inside that’s undoubtedly Y/N, except she’s not alone. The other guy—the other guy looks familiar too, although he can’t quite place it. Wait…

“Nathan?” he says aloud, confusion lacing his tone. For a second he completely blanks out, not even believing what he’s seeing. There’s no way, he thinks, no way in hell this was happening. He’s sure his expression is nothing short of comical at the moment, but he’s just so fucking perplexed. Was it really Nathan, as in Nathan from high school? The very same Nathan that had a fling with Y/N before moving away to Vancouver? All the way across the fucking country? Shawn rubs his eyes a little harder than he should’ve, in hopes that he was mistaken and Y/N really wasn’t with her high school sweetheart (Did it even count if it only lasted a month?). He really, really hopes that he saw something else. But no, when he opens his eyes and squints through the window into the small shop, there she is, with Nathan fucking Sawyer.

He’s quick to park his car, not even bothering to pay the meter. Stumbling hurriedly out and pushing the door to the cafe open a little harsher than necessary, the ringing from the bell atop the door seems to stop him in his tracks. Luckily, the patrons inside don’t bother paying attention to his strange entrance, which he’s grateful for. The one person Shawn cares about does look up to meet his gaze, however, and he catches himself smiling and walking towards her before he even realizes what he’s doing.

“Shawn?”

“Hey,” he greets, a grin on his face. Her eyes are bright and surprised, and he’s relieved that there doesn’t seem to be any animosity lingering in them. He holds his arms open for a hug, which she readily accepts. She feels right in his arms, he thinks, and he tightens his grip just a little. The hug lasts a bit longer than what any two, 100% platonic friends should share; fitting, since he knows that they’re far from just a platonic relationship. A cough interrupts their little moment, however, and Y/N is quick to pull away after that. Shawn’s eyes shoot up to the culprit, who, as he dreaded, is indeed who he thought he was. He plasters a fake smile on his face, not wanting to appear rude for no apparent reason.

“Oh, Shawn, you remember Nate right? From-“

“From high school, yeah I remember,” he cuts in. Y/N furrows her brows and gives him a weird look, but doesn’t say anything about his strange behavior. Nathan on the other hand doesn’t even seem to notice, and instead offers a brief smile.

“Hey man, what’s up? You’re like, famous and all now aren’t you?”

Shawn shrugs, though his shoulders are tense, “Yeah, I guess you could say that.” There’s something about Nathan that just pisses him off, even though he hasn’t even done anything outright (Deep down he knows it’s because he’s here with Y/N and he’s not, but he pushes that thought aside because it’s easier to pretend it’s not the case).

“Never woulda thought you’d turn out like this. The Shawn Mendes, huh?”

Shawn only shoots him a tight lipped smile, the other boy completely oblivious to his hostility towards him. Granted, Shawn’s passive aggressive response is uncalled for, but nonetheless his not so subtle body language seems to fly over Nathan’s head. The same cannot be said for Y/N, however, who knows Shawn like the back of her hand and is quick to try to defuse the situation.

“So, what’re you doing here?” She questions, inserting herself into the conversation, “Are you on break?”

“Yeah, I’m back for two weeks. I don’t wanna talk about me, though. How are you? Anything…new going on?” Shawn raises a brow at the end, almost as if he was daring her to deny that she and Nathan were back together. Y/N eyes him curiously for a moment before tilting her head and grabbing Nathan’s hand, their fingers interlacing. Shawn can feel the jealousy pool in his stomach, his heart dropping. The tips of his ears burn in an unfamiliar mix of embarrassment and anger—a combination he finds he does not like. There was a small part of him that had so desperately clung onto the notion that maybe Nathan just happened to be in town and they were catching up as friends, but clearly that was not the case.

“Nate moved back to Toronto recently and we decided to catch up. See if that old spark is still there, y’know?”

Her reply is innocent enough that he can’t find it in himself to be angry at her specifically, but the very idea of Y/N dating someone that wasn’t him—especially Nathan of all people—leaves a sour taste in his mouth. He thinks back to what Geoff told him earlier, about how he should’ve “done something about it” and that “it was his fault.” He was right, it was his own fault and he should’ve done something.

And Shawn knows, that at this point it’s really not his place to interfere. It’s really, really not his place to do anything. A part of him is screaming, telling him that if he does something it’ll just end up fucking over any remaining chances he had with Y/N. That it’s one hundred percent the absolute shittiest move he could pull on anyone, much less the girl he holds so close to his heart. But the larger, irrational, angry, jealous monster that is the rest of him has been whispering in his head nonstop ever since Geoff broke the news, and it just won’t shut up no matter how hard he tries to quell it.

And of course Shawn knows that he should listen to that rational voice, the one shouting at him from the recesses of his mind to just back off, to just deal with it and suck it up. But right now, in the moment, he can’t help but listen to the voice hissing, “take the goddamn shot, coward.”

So he takes it.

“Yeah,” Shawn narrows his eyes, gaze burning into their intertwined hands, “I get what you mean.”

pros and cons of dating nathan prescott!

so im gonna start with the cons of dating the walking, beautiful menace that is nathan prescott.

-his emotional instability. this is an absolute given, and it 100% WILL be the biggest hurdle in your relationship. his inability to let people in combined with his anger, possessiveness, and his superiority yet ALSO inferiority complex make it hard to get not only get close with him but maintain a steady relationship. along with this, he also won’t be much support to you when you’re emotional, as he doesn’t know how to handle it.

-his family. his father is a fucking prick and likely won’t approve of you, and though nathan swears up and down he doesn’t give a shit, there’s a small part of him that does. he does not want you to meet his dad so if you’re someone who wants to be very family oriented, good luck lol

-his reputation! another given! his reputation will both raise and lower yours at the same time. you’ll be feared but not respected, and likely will get accused of using nathan solely for his name and money. those around you will probably distance themselves

-his harsh words. this wouldn’t be an issue if you can easily handle jabs and sarcasm, but he isn’t above low blows and doesn’t have the filter to hold himself back from potentially, actually insulting ‘jokes’. if he would apologize then it wouldn’t be a problem, however, instead of apologizing he will always instead blame you for being too sensitive.

-over all just... a lot to handle. he’s very emotional and won’t admit it, and because of that, can’t heal or sort himself out. he’ll turn like a switch, loving you one second and blowing up the next. he’s insecure and will accuse you of turning against him or using him, and then 5 minutes later will break into your room because he missed you. he’s like the humanification of whiplash.

now, the pros!

-nathan is loyal to the grave. it’s hard to get him to that point, but if you’re someone he can find solace in, someone he genuinely enjoys being around and cares for, he will fully die for you if need be. it’s unhealthy, the way he’d do anything for you, but it does count as a pro since it keeps you out of harms way (even if he has to take the brunt of it). i know nathan is a party animal but if he loves you, he will not cheat. he will do anything you ask of him.

-his reputation is con but it’s also a pro! as mentioned before, though your peers will sort of lose respect for you, they will not make it known to your face. nathan is a looming figure in blackwell, and it will keep you out of harms way. you may even find yourself getting away from lectures or detentions depending how public your relationship is hehe :3c

-fun! nathan is a wild person in heart, and he knows damn well how to have a good time. he’ll take you to the best parties, get you the best seats in the house, take you to places you’d only dream of seeing. he’ll make you laugh and get your adrenaline pumping like nothing else

-when he’s sweet, hes sweet. like tooth rotting, sickeningly sweet. hard to imagine, right? but, it’s true! get him in the right mood and he will cuddle like a kitten, offer those goofy tired smiles, and kiss you on your nose. only in private, of course. he’s also lowkey sentimental and he keeps your photo with him, but he’d never admit it or show anyone. he doesn’t even ever really take it out and look at it, he just... likes knowing it’s there.

-best photographs. your instagram will never be dull again. he’ll capture you in the best light, make you look like an angel. candids of you sitting in glowing lights or watching the sky, reflections of city lights in your eyes. you’re his favorite subject.

hi! im trying to write something and i have a few questions, has nate always gotten along with scott? how was the first time they meet? i would be very grateful if you could rec me some comics about that! thank you!

I think the better question might be “has Nate ever got on with Scott?” (The short answer is: yes, but only briefly, occasionally, and very much depending on who’s writing today.) You’ve got to remember, Cyclops has spent most of his history dedicated to Xavier’s ideals, carefully keeping the X-Men’s image as clean and family-friendly as possible – whereas Cable grew up in a war-torn future and sees nothing wrong with recruiting teengers into black ops teams. Neither of them have any idea how to process being father and son, and the relationship mostly ranges from ‘mildly fraught’ to ‘open hostilities’. Scott even spends the first couple of volumes of Cable & Deadpool actively trying to take Nate down, believing he’s finally gone too far.

I’m not 100% sure about the first time they met (and if anyone else more familiar with the era has a better answer, I’m all ears), but I think it was during the X-Tinction Agenda crossover event in 1990. Neither of them really reacted at the time – you’ve got to realise that this was back before young-Nathan had been sent to the future at all, and I don’t think the Marvel editors had even decided they were going to turn out to be the same guy yet. Even Cable himself had no idea he was a Summers until much later.

I can tell you the big reveal began during the X-Cutioner’s Song crossover (1993), and later wrapped up over Cable V1 #5-8, released Nov 1993-Feb 1994. They did make some attempt at bonding in the following issues, and there was even a mini where a psychically-time-displaced Scott and Jean spent several years raising baby-Nate in the future for real, without ever admitting their true identities (The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix, 1994). But that was a pretty clunky retcon even then, and I’m not sure if it’s even considered canon nowadays (it certainly hasn’t been referenced in forever).

Regardless, if Cable & Deadpool was the low-point of their relationship, the mid-nineties would probably have been the high-point – such as it was. Even then, Cable seemed to have an easier time dealing with his Summers-family membership when Scott wasn’t around, such as when he joined the X-Men in his father’s memory after Scott’s death in one of the Apocalypse events (he eventuallygot better, obviously, but not before Cable got some nice bonding moments with Jean out of the situation in Uncanny X-Men #381 and surrounding issues).

If you do want to go poking through old issues, I’d recommend getting yourself a Marvel Unlimited subscription – you can sign up for a month relatively cheaply and get access to a huge library of old back-issues. If you’re at all curious what I make of the Scott/Nate relationship myself, I’ve written a couple of fics dealing with it, though the two of them have comically little in common otherwise – one is a scene from an AU where Nate makes it back to the present in his teen years and Scott gets a somewhat-better shot at being a father, and the other is several hundred words of crack about Scott’s pained reaction to Nate and Wade’s wedding. Make of it all what you will.
