Come on out this Saturday for some cross-faction fun! For the fifth(!) year in a row, we’ll be throwing snowballs at each other on scenic, but chilly, Ilum. Grab your snowballs/snowball cannons/tinsel bombs for a little holiday get-together!

We’ll be meeting up on Ilum on the Eastern Ice Shelf at the twin frozen lakes, which is south of the Imperial Base Camp, and east of the Republic Way Station.

Ugly Life Day swtor Sweater Challenge

A lot of the lowbie chest pieces on the starter planets (like the Nerfherder tunic), also dye really well. Truly the potential in-game are practically endless.

White Bantha Gift Exchange

Find or bring some random in-game object to exchange with some unwitting bystander another partygoer! The more useless, unique, or hilarious the item, the better!

Use the in-game trade function to exchange the “gift” to someone live! Alternately you can mail it to your recipient of choice, the but it can sometimes take up to an hour for it to be delivered.

The only catch with this activity that I can tell is that you have to be on the same faction in order to trade with or mail another player. Because apparently rival factions must be at war, or something lame like that. Like the name of the game is Star Wars or something. 

Again, both of these are 100% optional (so is the snowball fight for that matter), you can just come and hang out with us if that’s all you want to do! The goal is for us to have fun and hang out with each other in-game as a community, so as long as you have fun, that’s all that matters! ♥

malgus’ empire: doomed from the start

Why can’t you side with Malgus during The False Emperor? The guy does have some good points – not the fighting everyone in the galaxy at once thing, but about the stupid Sith infighting and stupid xenophobia holding the Empire back, and about the Sith Emperor being unworthy of loyalty.

One of the reasons is the devs can’t offer player decisions that would significantly diverge the overall world-state; creating a break between players who stayed loyal to their faction casting down Malgus and players who joined Malgus and propped up his empire would be hugely resource intensive, especially since the two-faction system is deeply baked into the game code. Another complicating factor is that, because The False Emperor is open to all classes, the logic of gains players making for their faction being promptly offset by the heroes on the other side can’t be used to justify a continuing stalemate the way it can be for Ilum, Makeb, and the class stories.

But those are Doylist explanations. What about potential Watsonian ones? Why would the player character, regardless of class, always turn down Malgus’ offer to join him? Why would a character who broadly agrees with Malgus’ position refuse him?

Maybe because there are hints that, even if they did join Malgus, they would be joining the losing side. Malgus’ new empire was doomed from its proclamation because Malgus just didn’t have the numbers.

With the exception of the imperial troops under his personal command, the two most prominent groups Malgus recruited – the Schism Collective, Talsa-Ko and her fellow voss – are from outside the Sith Empire. While Malgus is said to have “carefully cultivated the opinions of likeminded Sith leaders for years”, recruiting people like Darth Serevin, it’s not clear that Malgus’ primary aim was to bring them into his conspiracy rather than just promoting his more equal and diverse ideology for the Sith Empire. Notably missing from Malgus’ list of supporters are his apprentice Darth Karrid and his old ally Shae Vizla. As a falleen you would expect Karrid to be an obvious proponent of doing away with the Empire’s entrenched xenophobia, and the Mandalorian creed has never been one that looks down on a warrior merely because of their species.

Karrid’s absence is the one that is most suggestive because she is promoted to the Dark Council after Malgus’ defeat with no stain of his treason on her reputation. Given that knowing beforehand about Malgus’ plans but remaining silent would have also constituted a betrayal of the Sith Empire, it is likely that her Master left her ignorant of his plans. That would match with his behaviour towards an Imp-Side player; even though Malgus has been trusting you with missions for years, you still don’t warrant a personal invitation into the plot after delivering the crystals into his hands on Ilum.

It seems that, while Malgus worked hard to secure alliances outside the empire, he failed to properly canvas support for his plan inside the empire ahead of time. He assumed that the desire to see the Sith Empire reformed would translate into the willingness to abandon it. He assumed that discontented imperials would rally to his cause without his needing to make any effort to court, caucus with, or even inform them about his intentions.

This was not only arrogant but extremely stupid because Malgus needed the support of those dissatisfied imperials. Malgus’ first act after proclaiming himself emperor was to declare war on both the Galactic Republic and Sith Empire. Fighting a war on two fronts is something that leaders generally try to avoid for good reason. Because he refused to take the practical route of just picking one and engaging diplomatically with the other Malgus needed more troops, more ships, more supplies. Waging war on the galaxy is not a cheap exercise.

Malgus was depending on his support snowballing once he got going – winning some impressive early victories to raise his new empire’s profile to draw more followers in. Unfortunately for Malgus, not having as much initial support as he expected made snowballing more difficult, especially since attacking both the Republic and Empire meant that both sent their best and brightest to stop him.

Usually I would try to write about the player characters in more general terms, trying to account for the different classes and paths you can take through a story, but in this case it will be more coherent if I stick to mine. Malgus only asking the player character to join him after naming himself emperor means he decided to not preemptively approach:

The new Councillor of Ancient Knowledge, a twi’lek whose career Malgus actively helped further by assigning her plum missions. Darth Occlus has publicly supported Malgus’ position on removing the species-restrictions around military enrolment and imperial citizenship.

Lys’trel, who while younger than Malgus with a narrower support base is his equal in Force-skill and rank, finds herself genuinely offended that Malgus failed to so much as attempted to suborn her. As the only alien on the Dark Council she should have been an obvious potential ally. If he didn’t approach her, who else hasn’t he talked to? His apprentice Karrid apparently. Not a good sign. Malgus has already screwed up so throwing in with him will be very risky – but for how much reward? Lys’trel doesn’t care about war and conquest; violence is a means, not an end. Equality is something she wants, but she believes she can achieve it within the Sith Empire. For the Sith Empire to immediately implement its equality reforms after Malgus’ short-lived rebellion the policy changes must have already been in the works before it began; Occlus is an active participant in Darth Marr’s schemes to that end and had been trying to arrange an in-person meeting with Malgus to bring him in since with both Military Offence and Defence onboard they would have it in the bag. From Lys’trel’s perspective, Darth Serevin being invited in but not her and out of Malgus’ own apprentices Lord Cytharat not Darth Karrid – the lower ranked red sith but not the higher rank aliens – suggests that Malgus’ own subconscious biases are already undermining the equality he’s trying to create and the viability of his faction. It doesn’t help that in some important respects Malgus’ declaration just isn’t radical enough for her. Lys’trel wants to see slavery abolished and Malgus has said nothing about that.

Barrak Akkee of Clan Lok, Champion of the Great Hunt, is the most romantically famous of the aliens among the Sith Empire’s mercenary forces. Her underdog victory in the Great Hunt and adoption by Mandalore the Vindicated made her an honoured ally of the Sith – a feel-good story that improved the perception of fighting for the Empire among Imperial mirialians and mirialians among Imperials generally (which the Empire really needed because they are forcibly occupying Mirial). Then there was the whole being grievously slandered by the late Jedi Battlemaster only to clear her name by… besting the Battlemaster in single combat? forcing the late Chancellor Janarus to repent his lies at gunpoint? dramatically confronting Janarus with the evidence she had been framed before the Chancellor was assassinated by the late Darth Tormen? …the retellings vary but it was certainly very exciting.

As a Mandalorian, Barrak adheres to the Resol’nare and follows the Mandalore. Unless Mandalore abandons the alliance with the Sith Empire to make a new pact with Malgus, her loyalties will remain unchanged. As a bounty hunter, Barrak knows honour and glory won’t mend your gear or feed your family. Unless Malgus’ new empire can pay as well and reliably as the current one can, that’s going to be a problem; you can only pay your troops with loot if you win and keep winning which easier said than done, and it’s one thing to take people’s gold but another to take their grain. Anyway, it’s not like she or Mandalore got more of an “invitation” than Malgus’ widenet broadcast. What a snub.

While the Emperor chose another red sith of exalted lineage as his new Wrath after the previous one ran off with a Jedi, said new Wrath plainly doesn’t hold to the Emperor’s edicts on alien inferiority; he followed Malgus’ advice on tempting the kaleesh war-band on Ilum out of the Republic’s service into the Sith’s. Becoming the Wrath would give any Sith enough insight into the Emperor and his Hand’s behaviour to see the disregard he holds for his Empire. Vitiate’s Wrath publicly disowning him in favour of Malgus would send a powerful message to the Empire.

Tsojât accepted the mantle of the Wrath for personal reasons, not out of loyalty to the Emperor or to serve the Empire. But, having done that, he can’t turn away from the duty it implies. Having met the Hand it is clear that what people have been whispering since before the Treaty of Coruscant about the Emperor’s poor leadership is true – he doesn’t care about the people of the Empire, only his own powers and plans, whatever they may be. In the face of the Vitiate’s absence and apathy what should be the duties of the Emperor, the protection and guidance of the Sith Empire, instead fall to the Wrath as his emissary. Tsojât is honour bound not to betray the Empire and duty bound to attempt to fix it. Despite Malgus’ belief to the contrary, his breakaway is just another example of the destructive Sith infighting Malgus’ is railing against. This split in the Empire’s strength and attention right as the new war with the Republic begins leaves its worlds and its people in even more danger than they would be otherwise; it must be resolved as soon as possible.

(The infamous rattataki Cipher Agent is still officially listed as KIA and is not answering commcalls from the Dark Council at this time. Malgus couldn’t have gotten a hold of Cipher Nine if he’d tried, which he didn’t. Cipher took the Black Codex and ghosted the Imperial establishment with as much of the remains of ImpInt as vhe could safely disappear. To Yjimir, Malgus is just another self-absorbed and selfish Sith; another Dark Councillor unfit to lead the Sith Empire or any empire. His vision of a new empire is neither workable nor desirable.)

And they’ve all heard the story about Malgus and Elena Daru; Malgus taking a twi’lek slave as a lover, arming her to fight beside him, before murdering her because his love was a weakness. It doesn’t paint Malgus in a flattering light, even by the measures of the Sith. Murdering someone you love so they can’t be used against you is a tacit admittance that you aren’t strong enough to protect them. Turning on someone who has followed you loyally without provocation makes pledging service to you less attractive, for a leader who betrays his followers once may do so again.

Do you have any headcanons about her and luminara's partnership?

HELLO THERE! 👋🏻😁 Thank you for asking about my favorite topic ever! 💚💙

I’m forever on the boat that Luminara and Barriss were the ultimate mother/daughter team we were robbed of. Just the way they look to each other and speak to one another both in the novels and in the Clone Wars series. There’s just so much love and pride in their eyes and their body language is everything. Luminara was literally brought to her knees at the prospect of losing Barriss and had the biggest smile of relief seeing her come out okay and Barriss bows and curtsies to her (when she probably really doesn’t need to but does it anyway because she clearly respects her Master that much). But anyhow, you’ve asked for headcanons not rambling so here we go! Here’s a few of many I have 😄

1.) Luminara was heavily involved in Barriss’s upbringing since she had been brought to the Temple. Knowing how important tradition is in Mirialan culture, Luminara most likely made it a point to be a strong and loving prescence in Barriss’s life. Barriss picked up her accent from Luminara and learned all about her birth culture on top of her Jedi studies well before her official apprenticeship. Luminara spoiled Barriss plenty with lots of fun mom/daughter dates and gifts (like Barriss’s signature blue cloak and belt for example). She was also the super supportive mom that cheered Barriss on in her crèche.

2.) Luminara is the one that gave Barriss her tattoos and Barriss to her when applicable.

3.) Barriss had constructed her lightsaber on Ilum on a solo trip with Luminara instead of going on the usual crèche trip.

4.) Luminara and Barriss are the only ones that know exactly how to soothe the other when in distress.

5.) Barriss crawls into Luminara’s bed when she’s had a nightmare or can’t sleep.

6.) In her Padawan years, Barriss becomes more of the parent constantly fretting over her Master’s health and well being as Luminara starts to make risky decisions during wartime like hopping on speeder bikes and speeding headfirst into a legion of the undead 🤣

7.) They tandem fight (fight in sync with each other) as described in the legends lore and as seen in the 2003 Clone Wars.

8.) Luminara is secretly a huge Barrissoka supporter and does everything she can behind the scenes to get her out of the closet.

9.) They both love snow and in their downtime, they will go to the snow and have the ultimate snow day with each other. Their snowball fights are epic, but Luminara tends to get the high ground.

midst of the mind – Anakin has always had a pretty good understanding of his feelings, even if he's not particularly disciplined in acting on them. But things surrounding the Chancellor seem to be off and Anakin's determined to get to the bottom of it. With a little help from his friends.(or: fix-it ROTS fic where Ani, Obi, and Padmé take down the Chancellor one fake smile and late-night tea party at a time)

evermore – "dreamscapes and tragedies and epic tales of love lost and found" within the lives of our favourite space fam. (or: TAYLOR SWIFT LITERALLY OWNS MY SOUL, OKAY?) (unrelated one-shots based on taylor swift songs ha)

filling the gaps – after the horror of Naboo, Obi-Wan has flipped from Padawan to having a Padawan in a matter of hours and he's not sure how much longer he can pretend like he's okay. thankfully, this one spunky youngling who keeps popping up in the corners of his life seems to know what to do. (or: baby!Soka unknowingly helps new Knight!Kenobi figure things out and braids his hair along the way)

Obi-Wan & Ahsoka: Best Father-Daughter Duo In The Galaxy According To Me (because let’s be honest...that’s why I’m here) (tagged: #obi & soka)

filling the gaps – *in-progress multi-chapter* after the horror of Naboo, Obi-Wan has flipped from Padawan to having a Padawan in a matter of hours and he's not sure how much longer he can pretend like he's okay. thankfully, this one spunky youngling who keeps popping up in the corners of his life seems to know what to do. all too young – during a bout of insomnia while on Onderon, Ahsoka gets some advice and insight about her Master. (or Obi-Wan hears Ahsoka laugh for the first time and they get to have a snuggle and he absolutely spends the entire next day training the rebels trying not to cry thinking about it every dang time he sees her.)

hologram heart-to-hearts – we see Obi-Wan and Ahsoka have a conversation via hologram in the final season of tcw, but what if there had been...more?(three-parter) (basically Obi and Soka keep in touch after she leaves the Order and there’s...a lot of emotions involved)

little love – a sort of follow-up to hologram heart-to hearts; Ahsoka sticks her nose into the wrong Alliance meeting and discovers a certain Jedi is alive and on Tatooine of all places, so she places a long-distance call.

bad days – Ahsoka tries to squeeze out of her Grand Master exactly what happened on Mortis. and, as always, Obi-Wan is powerless to deny her anything, no matter how painful that truth may be.

sleeping with monsters – Ahsoka is having a hard time sleeping after her time on Felucia, so Obi-Wan offers a solution.

chance meeting – Obi-Wan is up late researching for his Master in the archives when a certain sneeze–and pair of big blue eyes–catch his attention.

‘drooping eyelids’ prompt fill – Ahsoka and Obi-Wan have a conversation about attachment while Anakin’s missing. they (plus Anakin) get some platonic cuddles.

‘dancing’ prompt fill – they attend a senatorial gala without Anakin because he’s feeling grumpy grump after deception arc fall-out. Obi realises that there are still things to be thankful for. 

sorrow – Ahsoka feels the full weight of loss as she clutches her Grand Master’s dead body. (deception arc FEELS!!!!)

fun? – the Jedi Council gives Obi-Wan his newest orders as a young Jedi Knight and he struggles to understand them. he was instructed to take his new Padawan and...have...fun?

shaking hands – in the immediate wake of Ahsoka’s departure form the order, Anakin...isn’t okay. Obi-Wan tries to do something about it. (post S5 angst)

untitled platonic tired cuddles/back scratching fic – Anakin resorts to an old tactic to make his Master rest.

imprisonment – on their first mission together, Obi & Ani get captured. Anakin learns how Obi-Wan feels about tight spaces.

coma – post deception arc. Obi-Wan goes into a coma after a particularly intense conversation with Anakin. Anakin tells Obi’s unconscious body how he’s feeling. angst, angst, angst. there’s your warning.

‘take me instead’ – Anakin escorts Padmé on a diplomatic mission but things get dicey and quick decisions must be made. Anakin isn’t the only one in this relationship willing to be an idiot for the sake of *love.* (or: another attempt to write Anidala in a convincing way because they give me a tough! time! so this time make it...dangerous)

insomnia – Anakin overhears a late night holo-call and learns that his Master has a...friend that is a girl???? and is pretty???? but also that his Master may need some fixing and he thinks he may just be the nine-year-old for the job.

‘hey, hey, this is no time to sleep’ – as Ahsoka and Anakin wait for help, Anakin tells a story. an ancient monster in the heart of Tatooine...waiting for it's day of reckoning. (or: Ahsoka gets dehydrated and Anakin can't deny his hurting sister/padawan anything so he talks a little bit about home.)

buried alive – Anakin reflects on some things as his Padawan tries to rescue him from the rubble. angst!!!!!!!!!

‘I didn’t mean it’ – Obi-Wan learns how cold and unfeeling his young Padawan thinks he is and has a rough day. angst

burned – Anakin mourns the loss of his Padawan in a tactile way. Obi-Wan watches. (or: Anakin throws Ahsoka’s Padawan beads into a fire)

‘I wish I have never given you a chance’ – Obi-Wan is reminded of his own incompetence through a vision form his old master.

you have to let me go – Ahsoka has one heirloom: a hologram of her old master as a padawan. but it’s time to let the past go and step into the future, with help from an old friend.

This would more than likely happen after Snoke is dead and he finally has more freedom, which would include his relationship with you. Just to make things more exciting, he would take you to Ilim for a day or two to get away for a short while. Sure, it was cold, but that was where the fun would come.

Part of the reason why he chose Ilum was because it had some connection to the force, and he was interested in trying to find the old Jedi Temple, and some kyber crystals for future use. Of course, you agreed because it didn’t make that much of a difference as long as you got to enjoy the snow.

As he has a personal, luxury ship on hand, you were able to take it on your short break from your First Order responsibly. (The Knights would take over while you two were away). It wasn’t the biggest ship, but it did seem to serve its purpose, with a bedroom and kitchen at the very least. It was large enough to be comfortable, just nothing over the top.

As you had made it to Ilum, he used the force to track down a cave where there had to be at least a few crystals and then landed the ship someplace secure close by.

You have everything that you needed to stay comfortable for a couple of days you would be out, with all the food/water and comfort items that you would need. It was so perfect, and he made sure that it was.

It hadn’t been the first time that either of you had experienced snow - considering you both were on Starkiller base - it wasn’t anything new. But it WAS the first time that you would be given the opportunity to enjoy it in your free time.

After everything was settled in and you got the proper gear on, he took you outside when it was snowing lightly. The chill on your face was very subtle with the gear you had, but it was so comforting. As you took it all it, Kylo actually threw a snowball at your head - not with too much force, however.

You were taken aback, as it wasn’t something that you would have never expected he would do, considering that he was normally more of a serious person. Nonetheless, you smiled at him and ran to tackle him into the snow below.

Feeling a little snow on your face, he placed his hands on your hips. “A little bold today, huh?” he laughed a little as he spun you around to your back so that he could hover over you instead. “That’s what you get for throwing a snowball at me,” you laughed back.

After just playing around for a few minutes, you and Kylo decided to do some exploring, heading for a cave that Kylo could sense a force connection to in hopes that you could locate the Jedi Temple and the cyber crystals.

It was very surprising to see that it really had in fact been the Jedi Temple that Luke had once told you and him about when you were still padawan. The door seemed to have been broken on the bottom corner as if someone at one point was able to get in, allowing for you two to just enter without much issue.

The pull to the force was very strong, one that you hadn’t felt in so long. With that, he brought you inside to take a good look around, finding the caves in the back of the temple. They were so massive and hard to navigate, but you did end up finding dozens of crystals to bring back.

After force knows how long, you found your way back to the ship where it was very warm after he had made sure to keep the heat on. Sure, you didn’t have a fire, but it was already so toasty that you were already warming up as it was.

He made you some hot chocolate and brought you into the bedroom, wrapping you up in a cuddle with a blanket around the two of you. He put on a holomovie and you two were able to enjoy some alone time, sipping on your hot chocolate as you took in the warmth of his embrace.

Anyone who knows Cipher Nine would say that excitement isn’t anemotion he often expresses. Happiness, perhaps, on occasion.Sometimes he even seems cheerful. But his excitement – true,genuine excitement – is a rare sight.

This is why his crew is so utterly unprepared for Hoth.

Brav’erke’xoni has practically been bouncing off the walls of hisship since Kothe announced that he was going to Hoth.

His smile only widens when he actually steps onto the surface. Thesnow beneath his feet and the prickling in his skin from the dry,cold air makes him feel like he’s back on Csilla again. It takesevery bit of self-restraint that he possesses to not start a snowballfight with Kaliyo.

He tells her stories of home. Of his parents and his older sister andthe neighbor that he used to go sledding with.

When he arrives at Dorn Base, he is reminded that for all of its snowand its Chiss presence, Hoth isn’t home. That it’s yet anotherchess board in the constant conflict between the Empire and theRepublic, and that he’s nothing but a pawn in it.

Still, if he’s going to be a pawn, he much prefers to be one in afamiliar climate.

A lot of the lowbie chest pieces on the starter planets (like the Nerfherder tunic), also dye really well. Truly the potential in-game are practically endless.

White Bantha Gift Exchange

Find or bring some random in-game object to exchange with some unwitting bystander another partygoer! The more useless, unique, or hilarious the item, the better!

Use the in-game trade function to exchange the “gift” to someone live! Alternately you can mail it to your recipient of choice, the but it can sometimes take up to an hour for it to be delivered.

The only catch with this activity that I can tell is that you have to be on the same faction in order to trade with or mail another player. Because apparently rival factions must be at war, or something lame like that. Like the name of the game is Star Wars or something. 

Again, both of these are 100% optional (so is the snowball fight for that matter), you can just come and hang out with us if that’s all you want to do! The goal is for us to have fun and hang out with each other in-game as a community, so as long as you have fun, that’s all that matters! ♥

Help keep yourself warm on Ilum and find the most, erm, unique chestpiece you can in-game and decorate it up with dyes for the holiday spirit! Here’s some beautiful examples I mocked up from some synthweaving schematics I have paired with a green and red dye module:

Help keep yourself warm on Ilum and find the most, erm, unique chestpiece you can in-game and decorate it up with dyes for the holiday spirit! Here’s some beautiful examples I mocked up from some synthweaving schematics I have paired with a green and red dye module:

A lot of the lowbie chest pieces on the starter planets (like the Nerfherder tunic), also dye really well. Truly the potential in-game are practically endless.

White Bantha Gift Exchange

Find or bring some random in-game object to exchange with some unwitting bystander another partygoer! The more useless, unique, or hilarious the item, the better!

Here’s a small sample of some potential gift ideas of some truly useless items to give away:

Use the in-game trade function to exchange the “gift” to someone live! Alternately you can mail it to your recipient of choice, the but it can sometimes take up to an hour for it to be delivered.

The only catch with this activity that I can tell is that you have to be on the same faction in order to trade with or mail another player. Because apparently rival factions must be at war, or something lame like that. Like the name of the game is Star Wars or something.

Again, both of these are 100% optional (so is the snowball fight for that matter), you can just come and hang out with us if that’s all you want to do! The goal is for us to have fun and hang out with each other in-game as a community, so as long as you have fun, that’s all that matters! ♥
