Why do you think there's so many bad takes in fandom? I know you've been watching/reading Bridgerton lately and there's so many terrible takes in that fandom that it's making me cringe.

literally only asked me this bc you know i'm fandom old. pfft.

no but also we (i'm guessing) were in the riverdale trenches and does no one remember those takes? like, remember when 4 underage teens were sitting by a fire in a promo and it turned into 4 underage teens on the lowest standard of basic cable were having an orgy within hours of said promo bc someone turned their anxiety into everyone else's problem? i do. it's also hilarious but that's not the point i suppose.

my best guess is media literacy is now a long lost art bc you're reading a lot of takes that stem from very and extremely literal interpretations of promo/interviews/trailers. they lack nuance and paint a lot of things in black and white and any deviation will be met with swift accusations of doing wrong think in fandom for whatever character/plot/ship they don't like.

let's all remember alex. not a good or right take in his career and there he is, being paid to share his bad takes with the rest of us. people playing telephone without context and letting their bias talk them out of simple logic is sort of wild when those people also have access to the rest of us online, ha. i can see how easy it would be to let someone's anxiety spike over hearing/seeing something they were already worried about happening and turning it into a full fledged theory based on something that, in all probability, won't be anything like they imagined.

in my (long and varied) fandom experiences, the best theories come from the english degree girlies who are quietly discussing themes and motifs with their friends and not the people screaming every 5 mins about how this is going to happen bc a social media post/promo got met with vibes and anxiety. or, to be totally honest, a lot of people just write a fic summary and call it a theory while passing it around making everyone else anxious with them.

actually tho, i can think of so many people who would be better off just writing the ideas they have as fic instead of passing it off as fact and then getting mad when people don't agree with them. 🤔

(update : I'm wrong, actually it has been told in a podcast, Seanie isn't going to die yeyyy :D)

wwdits theory : Why I think wwdits S5 will end on Sean's death.

I know that the plot twist of season 3 was already the supposed death of a character (Colin) fortunately we learned at the last second that he has reincarnated

But let me explain, we reached the ideal tension for Sean's death to be relevant to the story.

With only 40 minutes of screentime, Sean managed to mark the spirit of the fandom in spite of his short appearance

So much so that when we mention the character, we immediately want to shout "SEANIEEEEE", while other characters who appeared often have marked us less (Simon, or even the Guide who has been present for more than three seasons but we really know nothing about her)

Whereas for Sean, we all got attached to him in a certain way.

Already because he managed to get rid of the cliché of a racist homophobic white man where he could have fallen very easily into

He appears regularly throughout the seasons and is always one of the characters who delivers the best and often funniest lines

We know enough about him to get attached to him (his 'previously' messed up marriage, his alcoholism, his gambling addiction, his difficult relationship with his father) but not enough to consider him as a main character

"You're my main man. I'd die for you. " he told Laszlo in the Casino episode

And Sean has been known to predict events in the show :

Like when he compared Colin to a fetus or said that Nandor was probably a big sleeper (super slumber)

Sean avoided death from over-hypnosis (probably because it was already empty/hj), and he almost died in the Pine Barrens episode three times :

One while sleeping with a loaded gun under his neck, another time while being attacked by the Jersey Devil, and then by shooting himself in the foot.

So my final theory is that out of love, he will sacrifice himself for Laszlo, because all their friendship is based on acts of service.

And his death will impact the fandom enough without killing a main character.

So I hope that Nandor will have a wish left if this scenario happens.

Steph (25):

Says her worst trait is her murderous rages (she is exaggerating for dramatic/comedic effect, she’s killed 3 people tops and for very good reason)

Thinks her worst trait is her spitefulness (one of the few traits she definitely got from her father + one that prevents her from fixing her relationships and living her best possible life. She’ll refuse to interact with someone she dearly loves after an argument (happens significantly less after Tim’s death) or will say things she knows are hurtful just for the sake of having the last word. This trait will worsen in some ways as the list of people who have wronged her and those she loves grows, but will also ease up as she matures and realizes the harm it’s doing to her relationships with those she loves most.)

Cass (26)

Says her worst trait is her self-righteousness (she believes that her goals are righteous and, as a result, she is righteous. Cass becomes very defensive whenever someone questions the mission and often does not second-guess herself. This is a trait she only develops later in life as she grows closer to Bruce/learns to understand herself more/starts to love herself more. But she knows she isn’t perfect and when somebody she trusts criticizes something she is doing she is willing to listen. She just usually isn’t the one to START the introspection.)

Thinks her worst trait is her self-righteousness.

Her worst trait actually is her obsessiveness (she gets it from Bruce and, while not as bad as him, she will easily become preoccupied with her night-life and the mission if someone isn’t there to pull her back. She will do this to the point of self-destruction and it hurts her relationships with the people she loves, especially Steph.)

Tim (24)

Says his worst trait is his spitefulness (he actively rejects the idea of mending his relationships with the older members of the family and this causes him to also lack good relationships with the younger ones)

Thinks his worst trait is his obsessiveness (similar to Cass, if he gets fixated on a task or idea he will neglect everything else in his life in order to dedicate more time to it. Unlike Cass, he will almost never be dragged away from it unless Pierrot snatches control of the body and forces them to take care of themself.)

His worst trait actually is how manipulative he is (the KING of guilt-tripping and using people’s emotions against them. He’ll do whatever he needs to do to get what he wants, he’s not above crocodile tears. And he will do it to whoever he needs (or wants) to with little care for how his actions impact others.)

Pierrot (Insists: “Age doesn’t apply to me! And even if it did, I'd probably be the oldest. Or the youngest! I’d never be a middle child, though.” Mental assessments by the Bats have put him around 21, with a margin of error of 3 years. Pierrot has called this “blatant character assassination by my eternal rival!”)

Says his worst trait is that he is an irredeemable psychopath without any regard for the wellbeing of others (this is a lie and everyone who's important to him understands this).

Thinks his worst trait is his parasitic nature (he literally would not exist had Tim not suffered the way he did. Plus he is a living reminder of one of the worst things that happened to many of his loved ones. He is a parasite injected into a functional person's body and contributes to his continued suffering. This is also a largely incorrect judgement of himself, caused by his actual worst trait.)

His worst trait actually is his limited sense of self (he doesn’t really know who he is outside of ‘inheritor to the legacy of the Joker (a man he despises yet also views as a father)’ and ‘chip in Tim’s brain that became sentient’. He slowly develops an identity over the course of his life and relationships with other people, but he lacks the foundations of identity that most people have. Pierrot will often almost become a caricature of himself and what others perceive him to be because it's the only person he knows how to be. This causes wild swings in how he behaves and relates to others, sometimes to the detriment of himself and others.)

Dick (17)

Says his worst trait is his clinginess (he is a very extraverted person who likes to be around others, which mixed with his fear of abandonment after his parents died means that if he goes a few days without seeing/talking to a friend he will get very anxious.)

Thinks his worst trait is his anger issues (he gets ticked off very easily and will explode on people. He’s kind at his core and is usually very nice, but he has a temper that can escalate significantly. Spoiler (and later Twist) help him channel this anger into something positive.)

Barbara (18)

Says her worst trait is her disability (internalized ableism, she thinks of herself as less valuable than the other Bats because she cannot be out there in the capes like they can. She will grow out of this as she matures and as she learns how invaluable her support for the team is.)

Her worst trait actually is her overly-independent nature (In an attempt to overcompensate for everything she can no longer do, she has resolved to do literally everything that she possibly can without any help from others. This results in many instances where she either takes on too much and winds up not being able to fully realize any of her tasks or where she makes her life and the lives of others significantly harder by refusing help when offered/not asking for it when she needs it.)

Damian (16)

Says his worst trait is his perfectionism (he is overly critical of both himself and others, taking any flaw or problem and amplifying it to an absurd degree. This is due in part to his life with the LoA (where even a brief misstep could lead to death), in part to how others treated him initially as Spoiler (any flaw was fixated on and used as a reason to either mistrust him or portray him as unworthy of the mantle), and in part due to the fact that he is Bruce’s son (the only person with worse perfectionism problems than Damian). Gradually, Damian has improved in this regard but it’s still a massive barrier to both his own happiness and his relationships with others.)

He’ll say something without thinking it through and wind up seeming insensitive. This isn’t done because of malice, rather because Duke is someone who’s quick to act and speak. But while the mantle of Insight and his awakening powers have helped him with his actions, they do not always help with his loose tongue. As such, Duke gains an unfair reputation in the media as an instigator and will accidentally cause family drama through what he says.)

Says his worst trait is his bad manners (he grew up on the streets and has no idea how rich-people society works, which he’s pretty insecure about considering he’s now the youngest kid of Bruce freaking Wayne).

Thinks his worst trait is his reactiveness (Jason never got the privilege of planning ahead for various events in his life, so he instead needed to rely on being swift and harsh in how he could react to situations. It’s saved his life on multiple occasions and helps significantly in his role as Spoiler, but it can also lead to extreme overreactions (accidentally causing kidnapping scare after Jason ran away following a fight with Dick) and a struggle to plan things out ahead of time. As he grows more secure in his place in the family and in life, this trait will lessen but never fully dissipate.)

2x21 "crisis" really is a perfect episode

#mash #i cannot BELIEVE the plot of this episode was really it's cold and we need to snuggle for warmth #the supply line got cut off so we need communal sleepovers for Morale Reasons #it's PERFECT!#i just know frank is that kid who's like 'can we please be quiet and go to sleep'#frank thinks they're gonna get in trouble if they're too loud #i'm going to finish s2 today and i really enjoyed it overall!#i think it's stronger than s1 (understandably) and the episodes have more rewatchability #however on the other hand there episodes like for want of a boot and as you were that feel like all set up and no payoff #similarly dear dad 3 didn't really feel committed to the epistolary format and didn't do anything interesting or meaningful with it #also bc i am a person who loves spoilers and context i know what happens to henry so every passing episode i am filled with dread #that's my DAD what do you MEAN he's gonna get shot down over the sea of japan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#also mclean stevenson is giving possibly my favourite performance. he's just Saying things by accident #not one word in his mouth has ever been there on purpose he is possessed by the spirit of your dumbest uncle #i'm still lukewarm on trapper. the vulture instinct i feel on account of him looking like buddy the elf has settled #i no longer want to tear that man to shreds out of primal rage i only wish he'd get his own plot & a more distinct personality #those are all my thoughts rn #i have to bribe myself with the Very Special Gay Episode so i can finish this cover letter #id in alt text

I'm making a separate post bc I kind of sent myself down a rabbit hole. I wanna clarify that I am a Big Hozier Fan and that most country music is a different lyrical ballpark entirely bc of the nature of the genre. (If I had to describe it I'd say it's more literal and storytelling than the whole, like, in-the-woods poetry thing hozier's got going on.)

Anyway I tried to find some that have the same kind of poetry to them or at least aren't about dirt roads and, like, alcoholism. (this is very hard to do there are so many songs about drowning your sorrows in alcohol. I think maybe that's a bad thing but what do I know about songwriting)
