I love that thing of when I’m listening to Pod Watcher and Shane says “Did y’all do this as a kid, I did this and it’s a completely normal thing to do,” and it’s followed by a description of the most psychotic human behavior one could ever imagine

As an unapologetic Jesse Pinkman apologist I can’t begin to tell you how utterly uninterested I am in fan work that excuses his actions by characterizing his parents as explicitly abusive or neglectful, especially because so much of his character arc centers around not only taking responsibility for his actions but developing a sense of agency. If anything, I’m interested in Jesse’s relationship with his parents as yet another subtle dig at the myth of the “American Dream” by Breaking Bad’s creators. Jesse’s parents are a “nice”, normal, suburban white couple, the pillars of the foundation for American propaganda. They clearly care about him, but based on their treatment of both their sons, it’s relatively obvious that they care more about keeping up appearances than they do the welfare of their children, who effectively act as status symbols. This is why they write Jesse off quicker than some viewers would have liked (although it should be noted we don’t know the whole story there), and why Jake is so weighed down with extracurriculars when we meet him. They provided Jesse with all the physical necessities afforded to children who grow up well-rounded, well-behaved and on good terms with their parents, but in their conditional love they left him without a support system, and with dangerously low self-esteem due to equating academic success with self-worth. And while Jesse’s mother demonstrates a clear reluctance to cut him off entirely, his father seems somewhat less conflicted, showing disinterest in Jesse’s sobriety and treating his infrequent reappearances as an intrusion on their lives. Jesse has a good heart, but starts the series selfish and without any real comprehension of consequences, not surprising for someone raised by “nice” people who weren’t really all that compassionate. Jesse doesn’t gravitate toward Walter because Walter acts abusively towards him but because Walt can give him the academic and parental validation he hinges his self-worth on, and because Walt, like his father, prioritizes the projected image of himself as a wholesome family man over actually being there for his family, or for Jesse.
In this essay I will-

Life as a JGY stan is so hard because sometimes I want to make posts about the ways his very justified paranoia turns against him sometimes, rare moments where I think being more trusting or vulnerable would have helped but he felt like it couldnt, or talk about how his brutal survival instinct intersects with society's existing bigotries in a such a way that most of his violence is actually aimed at people lower on the ladder than him, with people like Jin Guangshan being the exception not the rule. Because he's a fascinating character and these parts of him are interesting!
But when I do that I have to live in perpetual fear of the moment that it escapes its target audience and someone takes it to go "Yeah he's a monster who fucked over everyone and is incapable of love! I wish he was killed earlier and his death was a thousand times more painful 🤪"
I mean, take my last example. Due to existing hierarchies it is, at any point, easier and safer for jgy to harm people less powerful than him instead of more powerful than him, even if the more powerful are the ones threatening his safety in the first place. Even knowing how it harms him and while working against it, Jin Guangyao is not immune to internalizing the mindset of the world he lives in. Even when killing Jin Guangshan- one man- it ends up costing the lives of 20 sex workers. You think I can bring up the sex workers in this fucking fandom? You think that will go over peacefully? The well has been so thoroughly poisoned here it feels like any conversation around morality automatically turns into a courtroom to determine a sentence for this fictional fucking character who's already dead.

I personally think that Kikyo would absolutely be thrilled that Illumi found himself a man he wants to marry as strong, handsome and fit to be Zoldyck as Hisoka.
Hisoka is strong enough to be considered an equal to a zoldyck, which means strength is no problem for him. And I don't know about you but the way he assassinated that terradin man that was threatening to reveal illumis identity at the end of the election arc? CHEFS. KISS. THATS A WHOLE ZOLDYCK WIFE RIGHT THERE. And Hisoka is a certain type of fucked up enough to be a Zoldyck, even if he is... mmm.. self aware. Even if he himself thinks zoldycks are a special kind of fucked up. He'd fit.
I always see people make silva and kikyo disagree with illumi marrying hisoka but i soooo heavily disagree. Like what is there NOT to be proud of in Illumi's marriage choice. There is not a single other character IN THE ENTIRE ANIME fit to be Zoldyck than Hisoka Morow and I will fight people on that.
Something a lot of people also don't realize is that the Zoldycks are not a family that discriminates in the slightest (this is a whole discussion on its own but examples are how Kikyo is from meteor city, the butlers are taken from anywhere as long as they have the skill to work and one of the people who attacked kukuroo mountain to hunt the zoldycks now works for them instead. The zoldycks didnt hesitate to hire that mf they fr dont gaf lmfao)
there are soooooooo many misconceptions about the zoldycks in general and i think thats what aids the whole "the zoldycks would HATE hisoka" thing but like. nah. they wouldnt.
I also think about how Kikyo found Silva at such a young age. I bet she was constantly nagging Illumi and asking when he'd get a partner himself. Now he's got it, Millukiiii ITS YOOOURRR TURRNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!

Did some Cora doodles today. I kept wanting to draw him but kept telling myself I couldn't cause I haven't actually met him in the show yet, but I caved today, and hot damn is he fun to draw. I love his design a lot.
Also I the last one was a quick height comparison initially between me (5'5) and him (9'7 1/2") and then realized there was a space between where I could draw a big eyed Law. (Also I didn't look up Cora's height before hand and thought it was just 9ft so he should be a bit taller, damn!) (Also also also the thing over laws face is a feather I drew prior to drawing him)
(full page below)
Full sketch in the middle was my first one ever and I was like "damn... He's so easy to draw" then upper right, upper left, bottom left, bottom middle, bottom right, and middle left.
