I had an idea last night that takes Kate Bush’s “Running Up that Hill” quite literally >:).

Bradley hadn’t been seen in hours. He said that he would go to a friend’s house after school, stay over and they would go to his baseball game together. Carole has treatment on Fridays so she can recover over the weekend and likes this routine so Bradley doesn’t have to see her at her worst, when she barely stand and vomits anything that she tries to eat.

Bradley usually calls the house, Mav always answers as Carole’s too tired to, but this time, nothing. He tries not to panic and calls the friend’s mum, only for her to say that Bradley never came to their house this time. Apparently he said he was going back home, she was skeptical but let him go.

Mav doesn’t want to scare Carole because he knows that she would want to search for him but can’t. He calls his other friends and the school, no one’s heard anything. Now is when he really starts to panic.

Since Carole got sick, Bradley’s been rightfully distant, angry and throwing himself into his schoolwork despite his grades starting to slip. They’re all struggling but Bradley especially, he’s just a kid who’s about to lose his only living parent. Mav wonders if he’s going to do something reckless, or tragic. His mind flashes to the bridge between Portland and Corpus Christi and hopes he doesn’t do what he thinks he might.

Bradley isn’t contemplating ending it. He goes to church instead. No one batted an eye when he asked to see some of Goose things, now in boxes at the back of Carole’s closet. It wasn’t an issue that he went to school with his dog tags, gold cross necklace and dusty rosary beads in his pocket.

Cut to Bradley, sitting in a church with his head down. He and Carole only go to church on holidays, both of their relationships with god were a little shattered after Goose’s death. No one approaches him, not even the priest, as he lights a candle and sits in a pew. He bows his head and prays, begs god to let Carole live. He’ll give anything, do anything to let her live. This is taken very literally.

Bradley runs home and rushes to his mum’s bed. She asks him where he’s been, he says praying for her and tells her to keep it a secret. She pinkie promises him and Mav finds them asleep, pinkies interlocked.

By surprise, one of the new studies Maverick finds, is taking place in California, and after a call, they agree to see Carole. They manage to get her on a place and they stay with Iceman in San Diego. Things go well, she starts new treatment and slowly but surely gets better.

Bradley forgets that he has to pay a price.

It’s the summer before his senior year, back in Texas, when he goes out with some friends. The rain’s hammering down. They wait at a red light, go on green when a bright set of headlights doesn’t stop as it comes toward them. They try to dodge but the car hits them, t-boning the car on the passenger side. Bradley’s hit specifically hard.

Carole gets a phone call and her heart breaks. Bradley was involved in a serious accident. His friends are fine and are in tears when she arrives, apologising to her even though she doesn’t blame them. The cops found at that they were hit by a drunk driver.

While they’re trying to get Bradley out, he wakes up slightly. Behind the firemen trying to get him out of the car, he sees Goose and starts to cry, asking him to make it stop, that he’s scared. Goose assures him that he won’t die, that he’s got a whole life ahead of him and he’s just got to trust the professionals.

He wakes up in a hospital bed with Carole asleep by his side. After being filled in, he gets some tests done and they figure something about. He’s paralysed from the waist down. And while Carole cries from shock and relief, Bradley knows that this is the price he paid for her to live.

Ok, I've never really shipped mergwenthur because I'm a weirdo who will literally insert myself into the character's lives and get jealous on their behalf (like, when I first watched heartstopper and Nick said yes to going on a date with Imogen and I couldn't continue watching and find out that he didn't actually go on a date with her because I had to sleep, I was so hyper and jumpy and jealous for Charlie that my brother yelled at me) anyway, point is, initially, I was the same with Merlin and Gwen because she has what he doesn't but they're kinda?????? growing on me????????? not very much, not yet, but???????????????? AND NO I DO NOT HATE GWEN AT ALL SHE IS A SWEETHEART WHO I WOULD LITERALLY DIE/KILL FOR SO LET'S NOT EVEN GO THERE. But??????????????????????

The maths fandom is wild. “Real” and “imaginary” numbers? I think you mean canon and non-canon. You guys seriously go “this is my number oc his name is i and he is the square root of -1” when in numbers canon lore it’s actually impossible to square root a negative but sure whatever. “Complex numbers”? I think you mean a character x oc ship. “f(x) = 3x - 5”? That is self-insert fanfiction.

spn is such a funny show, it'll be like:

Naomi tells Cas he has to choose "us, or them" and 'them' is meant to imply Sam and Dean both, but then

she makes Cas kill fake copies of Dean only

Or Metatron will speechify about how Cas is "in love... with humanity"

and then give Cas another lil speech about how it was all "to save Dean Winchester. That was your goal, right? I mean, you draped yourself in the flag of Heaven, but ultimately it was about saving one human, right?"

Ishim shows up and tries to tell Cas how weak he is for befriending Sam and Dean

and then when he wants to "cure" Cas of his human weakness, that weakness is just Dean

AND THEN you'll have things like

Sam will say that Cas is family, that he'd die for him

but he also refers to Cas as an "it" just hanging around in a vessel strong enough to take on Lucifer (in season 11!! It's not like he said that in s4 or something, it was like 8 years after knowing the guy)

Or in "Regarding Dean," Dean will say to Sam "and our best friend's an angel!"

and then when he's by himself in the mirror, he'll say "and Cast--Cas is my best friend."

#just thinking about the various ways the show frames cas's relationship as being a sam-and-dean kinda thing #and then will later emphasize how actually it's dean in particular that motivates cas #supernatural #destiel #castiel #dean winchester #otp: profound bond #(this isn't sam hate btw it's more just #i don't know #it's so interesting how the show first goes the 'we' route meaning sam-dean-cas and then almost always #separately takes dean and cas aside and reiterates the theme of 'we' differently without sam #😩😩)
