It's literally so tiring like. Already I find comparing artists to other artists in reviews and such incredibly tiring and pointless but it's always Daft Punk. Somtimes, sometimes Justice. I have never felt like electronica is a genre that is respected as widely as others like especially rock music. Because electronica is always viewed through the lense of looping party music like shit you'd hear in the soundtrack for Project X (2012) and is never viewed as being personal or complex. Like things like machinery and robots and beep boop shit is never viewed as being human in any sense (hold on) or being personal or genuine and like YEH I get why of course it isn't "human" but like robots being built out of a love for humanity and creation that you want to recreate it. Building a robot that looks like a human is just like painting a portrait of a human to me!!!! Humans made little robots that look like little doggies because we love creation snd we love little doggies!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I digress. But yeh I feel like electronica just isn't viewed as a very personally complex music genre. And like I get it. Lyrics in techno house music is like beep boop electronica baby fantastic music but I also feel like lyrics in house music are more in broad ways and I like it because I feel like everyone can connect to those words in some way but like lyrics are neverever the most important point in a house song and they don't have to beeeeeeeee. Blake promptly felt her cheeks heat up and she inhaled deeply as she continued to look around the room and felt her heart stall at the sight of blue eyes and red hair. A familiar pair of horns poked through red strands of hair and a self assured smirk cross his lips and he met Blake’s gaze and stared at her, silently daring her to go through with her plan.

‘He must have heard about what I planned to do tonight.’ She thought to herself as she shakily gripped the microphone stand. ‘No matter. I can’t let him throw me off. I have to do this.’ Her gaze returned to that of her friend and felt a small smile twitchy to life as Yang’s expression softened and she mouthed four words;

You can do this.

“Right.” Blake cleared her throat roughly and let out a nervous laugh. “As you all know, I’ve been singing as a cover artist for a while… but a lot of my songs seem to have a theme of eating the rich and kicking bootlicker ass.” The crowd chuckled, knowing full well how politically charged Blake’s choices in song could be. “Um… but tonight… I wanted to sing you all something that I wrote after my ex and I broke up. It’s a little different to what I usually sing so… here’s hoping you’ll still like me after this.” She half heartedly joked, as she pulled her guitar around and settled it against her, her fingers running affectionately across the flaming heart that Yang had drawn in it during a moment of boredom. Blake didn’t have the heart to get rid of it. And in a way, it was like having Yang up on stage with her. She looked up and saw Adam clench his jaw, his eyes narrowing dangerously at her. “So… here we. This one is called “I am not nothing.” I hope you enjoy.”

No one made me feel as small as you did.

No one made me feel as cursed.

I’d lay in bed just staring at the ceiling, wondering if things could get worse.

I was trapped under your thumb, believing when you called it love.

As Blake’s voice sang out through the bar, she closed her and remembered the nights that she’d cry herself to sleep after yet another fight, another bruise, another round of words fired that tore into her heart and soul. How many times did she convince herself that others had it worse than her? How many times did she fear becoming one of them? How many times did she forgive him because “he loved her?”

But I will forgive myself and start to let it go.

Accept that who you chose to be was out of my control.

And though it might be hard, to begin again, I’ll write myself a brand new story with a happy end.

I survived and tonight I am taking back my life.

And I’ll show you that I am not nothing.

Blake opened her eyes and stared in Adam’s as she sang through the chorus, gaining confidence bit by bit. She could see the anger bleed into his eyes, the way his body stiffened… but she was done letting him write her story.

I kept my head above the water til the moment when all the elements aligned.

And I could fly away to heal my broken spirit.

And leave my demons far behind.

You always said that I was weak.

But the bravest thing that I did was leave.

Blake’s voice cracked on the last word but she continued nonetheless, determined to get her point across. To show everyone that, despite the words that Adam had burned into her mind, that she was far from the pathetic coward he had painted her as. She was brave. She was strong. And, as she sang through the chorus once more, she swore that she wasn’t going to let him take that away from her again.

Looking up at the sky, I think I see the start of a sunrise.

Blake looked away from Adam and met Yang’s gaze instead, ignoring him completely. He was the darker night that she was leaving behind. He was the shadow that had tried to consume her and leave as nothing.

But Yang… She was Blake’s sunrise. Her light and shining beacon that led her out of the darkness and towards a brighter future.

I’ll show you that I am not nothing.

Blake finished with her head held high, cat ears y’all and proud on her head as she gazed around the silent room. She could practically feel Adam’s smug smirk…

Until Yang let out a loud whistle that jostled everyone into action, a loud applause following as people whistles and called. They jumped to their feet, causing Adam to spill his beer down the front of his shirt, his outraged snarl lost in the crowd.

Blake let out a teary laugh as Yang shoulder checked her way through the crowd and run up to the stage as Blake took her guitar off and placed down. Yang kept up on stage easily and wrapping her arms around Blake’s wait and lifted her, spinning around as the two laughed.

“I am so proud of you!” Yang whispered fiercely as they came to a stop, her hands resting on Blake’s waist while Blake’s own curled against her neck. “You were amazing! You stuck it to him, Blake!”

“Not yet, I didn’t.” Blake murmured, smirking softly before she gripped the back of Yang’s head and pulled down into a hard kiss, a muffled yell of surprise melting into a pleased hum. Yang pulled her closer and Blake curled her arms around Yang’s neck.

But not before Blake lifted her hand and send Adam one farewell salute. She felt Yang giggle against her lips, murmuring a soft admonishment before pulling back with a smirk.

“God. I love it when you’re feisty.”

“Really?” Blake questioned with a small smile, tilting her head coyly. “Because I’m pretty sure that I love you in general.”

“I love you too.” Yang said, her expression softening as the crowd cheered and moved forward, blocking Adam’s view of the stage as he simmered angrily. At the end of the day, it was Adam who was nothing. Not Blake. “I think that may have pissed him off.”

“Then come here and let’s really give him something to be pissed off about.”

“Yes ma’am!”

Blake laughed as Yang pulled her close once more.

The start of a sunrise indeed.

Pride bees! Plus one normal bee! I’m not sure why trans bee’s wings turned pink, maybe they just want to stand out. I’m going to embroider and test some of these today to see how well they stitch out, and then post them up for sale on my etsy. (I started working on this with the intention of finishing them before June, woops)

Who is your most personally relatable character and why? Which character is the least like you? Do you have any characters that are inspired by something completely random?

Procrastinating AMA Hell yeah

Beeeeeeeee. My mostly shameless self insert honestly. I love her. Past her, I think Winnie might honestly be most like me. A home body who doesn’t like big events, loves her family, shy around strangers and big dumb sister energy around her friends and kids. Dislikes mess, does art. I project certain insecurities onto a lot of my characters, and I think subconsciously, Winnie got a lot of them, so it’s really enjoyable to write her going through them.

Least like me -- probably Tristayne Penn. He’s a power-hungry fae who used his sexuality to get what he want, but he didn’t think through the implications entirely, so when it didn’t go his way, he did the same thing to someone else who promised to get him out of the situation, and wound up having to do bad things for them. And when things got way out of hand -- he ran away. Tried to get the woman he loved to go with him, but otherwise fled. He’s shameless, extroverted and open and friendly and charismatic, but selfish and persistent and diligent to the point of bullheadedness. I could have chosen an outright evil character, but I think Tristan is the better choice. Morally grey, flawed in an incredibly human way, doing bad things in attempt to protect himself.

As for completely random -- I have a few characters from just a single gifset that my ADHD brain went wild with. My favorite I think is Kaz, a genderqueer siren around 85 years old, who accepts one single gendered term -- Grandpa. Because that’s what they are. An old grandpa merperson, who lives on the coast of the pacific northwest, running a fake cryptid spotting talk show and local radio station. ”Found a suspicious amount of fur in the park last full moon. Close analysis confirms that there are dogs in the area” and “Giant foot prints found in local hiking trails. Can someone help this man find a pair of shoes that fits?”

I can’t remember what inspired him, but I think it was in an attempt to spite a subtly transphobic writing group who had over 60 characters among everyone and zero allowances for gender variance in the world building lore. So -- not random, but still satisfying.
