[bernie sanders voice] i am once again.. thinking about coparenting megumi with boyfriend!satoru.
Tumblr media
"so you're both megumi's..."
"guardians," you smile politely, praying stupid shit doesn't leave the mouth of the boy next to you. it's wishful thinking.
"yes," he beams so tenderly that you resist the urge to scrunch your nose in disgust. he takes your clammy hand lightly in his and turns back to megumi's teacher. "we had him young." a soft ow comes from under satoru's breath as you kick him under the table, forcing an expression of normalcy onto your face.
you hated parent-teacher conferences because it reminded you just how abnormal megumi and tsumiki's situation was. they had no parents, nor did they have any close relatives that cared for them the way a family should. that left you and the white-haired idiot in the tiny seat next to you to fill in that duty, and between missions and training students, you weren't around as often as you wanted to be.
"i...see," the teacher says hesitantly, eyeing your boyfriend with obvious unease. after a moment, she regains her composure and refocuses on you completely. "is there anything you wish to discuss before we begin?"
"not for me, no."
"when can we get him bumped up a grade? or have him skip one altogether?" every single word that comes from satoru's mouth is a joke but it still has your face burning with embarrassment that you were associated with him. "you know, i skipped a few grades when i was young."
"i can tell," you whisper and he pinches the flesh of your thigh between two fingers in defiance.
"i believe that skipping grades would be unwise at this time, as we haven't done any testing yet-"
"he was kidding, i swear," you say apologetically and, thankfully, the teacher continues as if on a script.
"i see. well, megumi is progressing wonderfully in the class. he's very adept at reading and writing, but he does struggle with math sometimes. it's nothing to be worried about; many children struggle with math at his age." you nod in understanding but grimace inwardly. megs always wanted you to help him with math homework since satoru became frustrated with the problems faster than the actual 2nd grader.
"for being the strongest, he's not that smart," megumi stated bluntly one night while you helped him on a coffee table in the teacher's lounge. you'd sent satoru on a walk around campus after his distress was clearly bothering megumi, who ended up suffering more from satoru's "help" than benefiting. "you're not around that much anymore to help me so i don't know what to do." his tiny eyebrows furrow and you reach out to run your fingers through his spiky black hair.
"i'm really sorry i'm not around as much anymore. do you want me to ask nanami? he handles math all the time."
"i think that'd be worse than satoru."
"you can't get much worse than satoru, buddy," you concede and his mouth turns up a little bit. nothing like a little insulting his mentor to get the boy's mood improved. still, his frown returns like it's his default expression.
"what if i can't do it? what if i'm not like everyone else?" it made your chest ache in a different way when megumi or his sister said something like that, like they were well aware that they weren't normal children. your heart panged for them and mourned their loss of a "normal" childhood just because they were born into a big three clan. it wasn't fair and it was something you lamented to satoru almost every week. you couldn't tell the boy any of that, though, no matter how much you wanted to explain why he wasn't like the rest of the kids in his class.
"just try your best, okay? sometimes, that's all we can do. you're already doing great by asking for help. it's not your fault if someone doesn't know how to help you, so just keep trying." he nodded determinedly; after another hour past dinnertime, you finally finished walking him through the rest of the problems while satoru draped his lanky body over the couch behind you, watching defeatedly over your shoulder.
"is there anything we can do to help him with math?" you ask, unconsciously weaving your fingers with satoru's and giving it a light squeeze. he squeezes back three times. i-love-you.
"he just needs a little reassurance that he's on the right track sometimes."
"mmm, don't we all," you murmur and you don't expect the teacher to laugh softly under her breath, muttering her agreement. before you know it, you've organized megumi's papers into his folder and picked him up from the playground outside his classroom, taking his hand as you walk back to the car.
"your teacher says you're doing well in class."
"really?"
"mhmm, though i didn't need her to tell me that since i already know." you shoot him a small smile, leaning into satoru's body as his arm wraps around your torso. "you, however, need to learn some manners," you lightheartedly tease, knocking your elbow against his abs. "you were not helping in there, you menace."
"it was boring, what do you want me to do?" his tone is so carefree, so comfortingly satoru it made your heart melt.
"it's a parent-teacher conference, not parents. you could have waited outside if you were so bored. went to play on the playground or something." his head dips close to your ear and you feel some strands of his hair brush against your skin.
"but then i don't get to watch you be all mature and put-together."
"trying to follow my example?"
"trying to break your composure," he corrects with a sly grin. "i'm the fun one, after all."
"that's one way to put it," megumi deadpans without hesitation and you stifle a snort.
"i'm one of a kind!"
"you're out of your mind, is what you are." before he can protest, you press a kiss to his cheek and he turns a slightly opaquer shade of pink. "but i wouldn't have you any other way."

I’d love to hear your headcanons on the relationship of Catnap/Theo and The Prototype…especially when the poor kid became wee little baby Catnap. The Prototype must have a lot of guilt over that, and many, many other things…
Oh, boy, I have so much to talk about!
First, for me their relationship is and will always be of father and son. Even during the time Theo/Catnap starts looking up to Prototype as his god, it is still, at its core, a parent and child relationship. The religious imagery is just another layer it has, even if it's a very bad and unhealthy one. For me the whole cult thing was something Prototype only allowed to happen because it gave him more control over the factory, and, by extension, more protection to his kid, because if anyone dared to mess with him, they would know they would have messed up with the Prototye himself. And also because Elliot was used to people looking up to him and "lost" his "window" to cut it off before it became too much, like how we see in-game.
I think Theo met Prototype by accident, when he was running from bullies and accidentally got lost. He called for help until Prototype heard him and made a "mental link", gently guiding Theo out of where he was. Prototype was in the middle of an escape attempt, btw, and stopped because Theo was just a child and needed help. He would have done the same for any other kid in Playcare, and this is an important part of his personality to me. Proto would never hurt a kid (except if he thinks said hurt will free them from their suffering, which is why he kills CatNap during the og game).
Theo, very young and a bit religious, thought that the voice was actually a guardian angel guiding him out, and tried to contact the Prototype by praying. Proto, who still had the mental link with the kid, was very amused, and told him that no, he's not an angel, just another creature trapped inside Playtime Co. Prototype would often silently escape his cell in order to talk to Theo, or use the mental connection to make his hand appear in front of him. The kid was lonely, terrified, and no other adult seemed competent enough to just do their job as a person and help him, and Prototype knew what it was like to be lonely and terrified. He wouldn't allow this little one to be alone like he himself was.
He protected Theo the best he could. He wouldn't scare the bullies, knowing well that if he did, the higher-ups would immediately make a connection and end any attempts at contacting Theo. At this point Proto was already with the adoption papers all signed up inside his head but he just thought it was normal behavior for him until years later. Prototype helped Theo with homework, taught him how to calm himself down, and, little by little, started showing more of himself. First he made it so that Theo would only see his hand, then his arm. He warned the boy that he had a very scary appearance, to which Theo replied that even angels look a bit scary the first time you see then. Surprisingly, the little boy was amazed by how the Prototype looked like! He thought he was the coolest thing EVER.
Prototype's influence also made Theo start scoring higher at the Game Station. He was a very frail and clumsy kid. If it wasn't for Proto being gentle and encouraging, Theo would have never been fit for the Bigger Bodies initiative. This is something Prototype didn't realize until he accidentally overheard Sawyer talking about the Smiling Critters "line" of Bigger Bodies and saw the test results for Theo. By this point, Proto was planning an escape, with him and the boy freeing all the orphans trapped inside Playtime Co, but when he saw these papers, he decided that the plan must be done as soon and quick as possible. He would allow anyone else to be hurt. And he didn't realize it at the time, but he wasn't going to allow Sawyer to just take his kid away from him like that.
And then Theo almost fucking died. Haha. Lmao, even.
Maybe the fact that Proto didn't have more time to "train" him could be part of the reason why the accident happened. Maybe Theo was just too young. But what matters is that he almost died, and Prototype kept on calling to him, begging him to survive, to get up, but the boy wasn't moving. The Prototype had failed yet another child, and this time it almost costed their life. I think this is how he found out he could cry in his new body, because he was sobbing, and if he wasn't so focused on getting help and not being silent I think he would have screamed a bit.
And then he saw his boy being brought to that room, and he couldn't do anything to stop it from happening. And at least to me this was one of the worst things that ever happened to Prototype, because he loved that kid just like how he loved Poppy when things weren't like this. Taking care of him, raising him... He did that to Poppy as well.
And he failed the two of them.
I think that after Theo became CatNap, Prototype tried to keep a certain distance between them, because he almost killed that boy. He's not a good parent, nor a good friend. He tried to hard to save him, and for what? But to Theo, this wasn't a case of his parent trying to protect him. The last thing he heard was Prototype calling himself a failure: "You failed another one", he said, and Theo thought he was calling him a failure for almost dying. And combine that with the distance post-Bigger Bodies transformation, and the fact that to Theo he was still alive because Prototype saved him, and you have just the right amounts of guilt, second chances and redemption to kickstart the worship.
Theo/CatNap wanted to prove himself to be useful, to be better. Prototype wanted to free him and everyone else inside, and told him about the Hour of Joy. CatNap delivered the news to other toys, grateful that he was being useful to his savior, and helped him set everything in motion for the following months. After the HoJ, Prototype realized he had to feed all the toys inside, and food is not an infinite supply. He taught CatNap how to protect himself from other hungry toys and how to hunt and scavenge for food, and in CatNap's eyes his god was teaching him everything he knew just like old times. It was a reward, he had proved himself to be useful, things will be okay once more.
@/lassieposting made some really interesting posts about their relationship post-HoJ, and I recommend checking the poppy playtime tag on their blog! I love the idea of CatNap eventually leaving Prototype's wing/"area" after a certain amount of time, coming back to the Smiling Critters as a hunter and thinking it's stupid how the group doesn't want to hunt for other toys. However, I like to think that Prototype one day came up to him and told him there wasn't anything else for him to learn, and that he could go, once again creating a distance between them, as Prototype/Elliot still thinks he failed the kid and that he will fail him again if he stays close. In CatNap's eyes this was his savior asking him to prove himself so he would be allowed to be close to him again.
With enough time, CatNap made his Prototype cult, which was allowed to keep on going because Proto firmly believed this would protect him and the mini critters. Plus, more control over the factory, stopping toys from going on a rampage or trying to leave and risking making the experiments known to the authorities. Meanwhile CatNap had to provide food for the mini critters and was finding the same problems Proto himself was having with feeding the toys, and this just made his admiration and worship of him grow more and more (hc also by @/lassieposting).
There's also another element to their relationship: Elliot was a very kind man who was shaken up by war. He raised Poppy to be kind, as much as she possibly could be. For her, kindness was a choice she must make every single day. But for Theodore post Hour of Joy, kindness was something that could cost him his life. Prototype taught him how to be a hunter, and this meant not playing around and not being able to be a kid anymore. CatNap feels like a part of him went missing when he was forced to stop playing because he needed to survive, and a part of him does resent Prototype for that, but he will never admit it out loud.
By the time Angel enters the factory and the game starts, Prototype is being eaten alive by his own guilt. He failed every single child in that damned factory, he failed his two kids (Poppy and Theodore), and he failed himself and his principles. Meanwhile, CatNap is starving not just for food, but for any love and attention he can receive from Prototype. All he wants is for things to go back to how they were once before, but the distance between them just keeps on growing. The cult, the worship and the guilt are killing this relationship for years, and neither of them are able to talk about it.
CatNap just wants his dad back.
Prototype just wishes Theo never had to meet a monster like him.

<Beginning>
Bruce walked to the restaurant that Audrey and he agreed on and was led to a seat where he found his old friend waving at him with her signature mischievous smile. Audrey Bourgeois stood up and opened her arms, "Brucie darling! How fabulous it is that you could finally join us!" she crooned and gave him a hug.
The hug wasn't uncomfortable, in fact, it was a familiar hug that he had somewhat missed. He pulls away and gave her a charming smile "A pleasure as always Audrey, how's your daughter, and how's Andre?"
"Chloe-bee is as spectacular as ever and you know how Andre is, still running Paris as a Mayor should." She paused and her smile turned somber. "I heard about your loss, I'm so sorry, Brucie."
Bruce smiled weakly, "I'll manage. I met someone today that gave me hope."
"Good." Audrey nodded with a sniff "Now! I want to introduce you to my darling apprentice! Oh, you are going to love her, Brucie!" Then she turns around to reveal a girl who was looking at him like she had seen a ghost.
That's when he noticed that the girl was the same young woman who gave him the amulet at the park. "I'd like to introduce you to my darling apprentice! Bruce Wayne, meet Marinette Dupain-Cheng. Marinette darling, this is Brucie Wayne!"
The girl in question, who had been staring at him without his notice trying to override her shock of actually meeting Bruce Wayne at the park, stood up and held out her hand. "I-it's nice to meet you again, Sir! Oh merde, I hope I wasn't too nosey back then! Merde, you must think I'm some kind of lunatic preaching to you like that! I-it wasn't my attention!" She rambled on her apology.
The businessman chuckled and cupped her hand gently, "No, you don't need to apologize. I'm the one who should thank you."
"M-m-m-me??? T-thank m-me?? What for?" She stuttered.
"For giving me hope. It's not often that I could find a reason to hope in Gotham. But somehow you did, young lady." He said with a gentle smile to which Marinette replied with a bright smile of her own.
"You two have met before?" Audrey interrupted with a curious gleam in her eyes.
"Yes, a coincidence actually. I went to the park to get my head off...things and I met this young lady who was minding her own business. She gave me an amulet of sorts that somehow lifted my spirits."
"Ah, the famous Marinette Amulette. She made me one as well and the precious thing helped me mend my relationship with my Chloe-bee. You struck once again, Marinette." Audrey winked at her protege and the girl squeaked in embarrassment.
"Truly?" Bruce quirked up an eyebrow and looked at Marinette.
"I-it was nothing! I-i didn't make yours M Wayne! I-it was pure coincidence I assure you! The one that I gave you was from my mentor!"
Bruce's eyes widened, "Would you like it back?"
"Non! It's okay, I'm sure you need it more than I do." Marinette refused with a sweet smile.
"Always helping others, that's my Marinette!" Audrey bragged proudly and Marinette's face became even redder. "Anyways! Shall we start dining? I have a lot of things I want to brag about my precious protege!"
Bruce chuckled, "Well, I'm all ears."
With that, they all took their seats and began the meal course. Audrey bragged about how Marinette skillfully managed all the divisions in Style Queen, how the company profits had been increasing exponentially, and how Style Queen's latest fashion line as well as their fashion show became a hot topic in the fashion industry, she also bragged about how her employees worship the ground Marinette walks on, and how she handled rude clients as well as pushy investor.
Every accomplishment that Audrey proudly states made Marinette turns redder and redder. Bruce was a bit worried if the girl would combust anytime soon.
"The best of all, she is a great martial artist! Oh, I do not need extra bodyguards when I have to go outside or on the red carpet! Marinette has all the package and has soaked up all of my teachings about the fashion world! I am sure that this little girl will go on and have a huge fashion business!"
"I-i'm sure you are just over-exaggerating, Audrey! I still have much to learn! I still have little grasp of business management for large companies. Not that your company isn't large Audrey! B-but I wanted to build a company that will engage in different divisions! Not only fashion, perhaps in technology as well, and the food business!"
Audrey smiled warmly at Marinette and Bruce take notice of how soft it was. Audrey must really love the girl to be able to garner a such a smile.
"So, you want to build an empire?" state the owner of Wayne Enterprise.
Marinette looked at him with wide eyes, "E-empire?? N-noo, I-i could never! That would take time and connections! Big connections that I don't have at the moment!"
"Which you could start now. I'm sure there will be an opportunity coming to you soon." Bruce said with a secretive smile. He glanced at Audrey and the woman had a smug look on her face. Bruce sighed in defeat. "You were right, Audrey. She's going to places."
"Of course! I don't remember the last time I have been wrong!" Audrey boasted and took a sip of her wine.
Marinette decided that all of these compliments are getting her light-headed so she excused herself from the table to go to the restroom.
"So? What did I tell you? Isn't she amazing?" Audrey gushed happily. "Marinette has been a blessing to me and I'm sure she will be to you too."
"Perhaps," He shrugged "I'm going to ask her for her portfolio and resume-"
"Already way ahead of you, Brucie. I have sent you an email with an attachment! I was a bit concerned to let her go, however, if she passes your interview. I know I can rest easy knowing that someone fair is going to take care of my protege." The Style Queen lamented as she took another sip of her wine.
"When do you think would be the perfect time to interview her? I know that your schedule is packed for the week?"
"Perhaps on Thursday? I can send her to you in the morning and in the afternoon I shall be there for the fitting for your family as well."
"Perfect." He agreed easily and texted his assistant about the change of schedule. Almost immediately Marinette joins them again and all discussion about her stopped as they enjoyed their respective dinner.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marinette threw herself on her hotel bed and reflect on what had happened today. Her first day in Gotham and she had accidentally met Bruce Wayne at the park, console the grieving man as if she knows what was going on in his life which she doesn't, met the guy again at dinner which sent her into an apology frenzy and somehow blabbed out her dreams of becoming a businesswoman!
She groaned pathetically and start hitting herself with a pillow. Plagg and Trixx looked at each other and sighed exasperatedly. Their guardian is having one of those mental breakdowns, she usually does that only this time it's for a questionable reason.
"Guardian, I think you are overreacting," said Trixx as he floats next to her head. "It's not as bad as it seems."
"I made a fool of myself, Trixx. How am I not overreacting?" Marinette muffled underneath the pillow.
"Kitten, I don't think you made a fool of yourself." Plagg countered with a snark.
Marinette moved the pillow to glare at the kwami of destruction, "Plagg, I met the man earlier in the park and failed to notice who he was! Then I made the brilliant move to spout some wisdom shit to him as if I know how he felt! After that, I completely rambled on about my dreams of having my own business! I probably sound like a fool to him!"
Plagg sighed heavily and floated above Marinette's face. "Pigtails, you gave him the advice that Fu did when you lost your friends. Sure it doesn't seem like the same context but doesn't tell me that advice didn't help you during Fu's passing. You said it yourself, you're doing the next right thing and that right thing just so happens to be giving a grieving man a piece of advice.
The man even thanked you for giving him hope! Plus, not knowing who he was and treating him as a normal man who was grieving the loss of his son is probably something that he needs! No judgments or snarky comments whatsoever. Then, the dinner thing.
The man seemed very interested in your dreams, pigtail. He doesn't sound condescending and instead he was genuinely interested in your ideas. Personally, that's not a mess up, kid."
Marinette had sat herself up upon listening to Plagg's speech, her eyes had started to water and she had been looking at Plagg in gratitude. She sniffed as the first teardrop falls to her pillow. "You really think so?"
"Yes, kit! I was there in your purse too, remember? Now you got two eyewitnesses, so no beating yourself up!" Trixx joined and floated next to Plagg.
Marinette sniffled as tears started to rain down her cheeks.
"Oh, Marinette..." Tikki's voice popped up and gave the girl a hug. The other kwamis started to show up as well and they all gave Marinette a hug of their own.
"Thank you." She whispered in a small voice. Plagg scoffed and gave her a light kiss on her cheek.
"Marinette, you're our true guardian, our true champion, and lastly you are ours to protect, ours love, ours to cherish. We'll be there to tell you when you mess up and we'll be there to help you pick up the pieces when you break down. Never forget about that." Tikki promised.
Marinette felt better after hearing her beloved kwami's encouraging words. "So...do you think I made a good impression?"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Tuesday morning, just like what she had scheduled Marinette and Audrey went to the scheduled shoot at Gotham Garden. Everything was kind of hectic and Marinette was this close to ripping out her hair out of pure stress. If another bad thing happens, she was sure to snap.
They were in the middle of a shoot when something did happen. The Riddler made an appearance and Marinette was not happy. While the Gothamites had made themselves scarce like it was rehearsed, Marinette was not taking any of it.
"What is this?!" She yelled in anger, she felt Duusu's magic flowing from the peacock brooch on her chest, fueling her anger as a result.
"I do not consent to get our photoshoot ruined by some fashion disaster!" She screamed as she manhandled the closest goon and threw them into a pond nearby. "I was having a bad day and this-this connard decided to make things even worse! Non! I do not consent! I do not need it!" She screeched angrily as she breaks one of the goons' arms.
The main villain's jaw dropped, who wouldn't? A petite Chinese-french woman just throws a man twice her size and she doesn't look like she's stopping any soon! The Riddler quickly hid his shock and played his role as a villain.
"Well well well, a brave woman is she? Now, I am here to test people's intelligence, that's all. No harm done, right?"
"Non! You will leave at once! When you have a better sense of style you can come back again. I mean what are you wearing?! It. Is. A. Mess!" Marinette growled as she flipped another goon that tries to tackle her. When she finally stands in front of the Riddler she had already manhandled 4 goons out of her way and it looks like Riddler is next.
"Ah-" "ferme ta gueulei! You do not get to speak! Not in this situation, oh no monsieur!" She interrupts harshly and pulls down the ridiculously garish purple tie.
"If you do not get your ridiculous-looking bowler hat out of here, I will strip off your clothes, shred it all, and have you sent to Arkham naked! Do you understand me?!" She snarled and glared at the Riddler.
"Are you threatening me, little girl?"
Marinette snapped.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Batman arrived to find a half-naked hog-tied Riddler, his tied-up goons, and the french young girl he had met yesterday laughing maniacally while happily ripping part of what seems to be the Riddler's clothes.
"What's the situa- what the hell," Nightwing whispered dumbly next to him. "I-is that Riddler? Hog-tied with his own tie?"
"I believe it is..." Batman answered equally in shock. He was watching Marinette warily as she throws pieces of the Riddler's clothing onto the burning pile. She was even humming a happy tune while doing so! Batman was speechless.
As he and Nightwing watched the girl, Audrey Bourgeois decided to make herself known. "Ah, Monsieur Batman! Lovely of you to finally clean this mess. I'm sure you can handle the GCPD, oui?"
Batman cleared his throat, "Yes, of course, Madame. May I ask what happened?"
"The fashion disaster just crashed into our photoshoot and my already stressed out assistant is taking none of his...what do you Americans say it? Ah, bullshit."
"I-is she always like this?" Nightwing asked in concern.
"Non...Well sometimes. The shoot was not running as smoothly as she would've liked and the fashion disaster just came at the wrong place at the wrong time." Audrey explained as she watches Marinette rip apart the last piece of the Riddler clothes.
Marinette then skipped to the Riddler happily, "Now! What have you learned today?" She chippers with a bright smile.
The Riddler flinched, "U-uh n-not to w-wear too m-many symbols?"
"Good! What else?"
"B-bowler hats a-are a fashion no." "And?"
"U-uh..." He faltered, face paling as he tries to find the answer. Marinette frowned and puts her hand on her waist while staring down menacingly at the rogue.
"Find your hue." Marinette spelled out patiently. The Riddler nodded shakily and gave her a small smile.
"R-right! F-find m-my hue." He agreed franticly.
"Good! If you want more fashion tips, just search for MDC and I'm sure they will help!" She clapped excitedly and turns around to find new audiences who were looking at her with various types of amusement. "Bonjour, are you taking the walking disaster to Arkham?" She asked sweetly.
Batman and Nightwing looked at each other as if having a silent discussion before the older of the two nodded at the young designer.
"Excellent. I've made sure he and his accomplices are tied up nicely. I am pretty good with my knots! Can we resume our photoshoot while we wait for the GCPD to come?"
"Uhhhh..." Nightwing looked at Batman for help. Batman was speechless but quickly hid his astonishment with a cough.
"Perhaps, a break? I'm sure the other would appreciate it."
Marinette squeaked and turned around to see the Gothamite models all looking at her in awe but still trembling after witnessing the ordeal.
"Merde, Je suis desole! Take five everybody! I think we have warm tea ready for this kind of situation. Make sure everybody stays calm and well rested, yes?" She ordered with an apologetic bow. "I am so sorry you have to experience that!"
The group of models looked at each other before giving her cheers and shouts of excitement. "Ma'am, you were awesome!" "So cool!" "A Badass!" "The Riddler got his ass handed to him! YEAH!"
Marinette jolts and hid her face behind her hands in embarrassment. "J-just take five!" She whimpered and turned to see Nightwing eyeing her in amusement. She blushed even more under his gaze and meekly stepped behind Audrey. "I'm just going to be quiet now." She laughed awkwardly.
The GCPD eventually came and was surprised and couldn't even begin to describe what they felt when they got a hold of the situation. The Riddler was shaking like a leaf, paling whenever the small assistant made a pointed glare at him, and the goons were no better. They were begging, yes begging, to be arrested immediately.
Commissioner Gordon walked to Batman and Nightwing who were standing with two women. "What the hell happened, Batman?" He gritted out when he saw the whimpering state of the Riddler. The vigilantes both share a look before Batman decided to give him an answer.
"The young woman should be able to answer that question, Jim." He said and nodded over to a small young lady with blue-black hair, large round blue eyes, and fair white skin. Is she one of Bruce's?
The girl in question meeped and made confusing noises while her cheeks began to redden and spread to her ears. Nightwing and the other lady burst out laughing next to Batman while the Bat just sighed tiredly at his hand.
"Ah, did I say that out loud? Pardon me, miss."
Marinette tried to smile but it looked a tad awkward, "I-it's fine, and no, I-i'm not a Wayne." She answered politely. Gordon clears his throat and starts questioning the young woman and she tried to explain to her best capabilities.
Honestly, he was shocked and confused. The Commissioner looked at Batman and the vigilante only gave him a nod, as if agreeing to the whole story.
"Thank you for the statement, miss. I hope this doesn't happen again in a near future." He nodded politely and went off to interrogate the other eyewitnesses as well. After he had collected all the statements, cementing the facts that the petite woman did handle the Riddler and his goons single-handedly he left transferring the criminals to Arkham to the other officers. Batman left the scene deciding to escort the entourage back to Arkham while Nightwing stayed back to make sure everything is settled.
Nightwing wasn't quite sure about his opinion regarding the petite girl in front of him. In a glimpse, the girl doesn't look like she could throw men twice her size or have the guts to scream at a supervillain. Either she was brave or a complete idiot, and he wasn't sure which category the girl falls in.
She looks like she couldn't hurt a fly but apparently, that wasn't it! Nightwing continues to watch the girl as she fumbles around, even tripping a few times over nothing, trying to make sure that the models and staff she's working with are okay. That girl is an enigma and Nightwing, doesn't know how to feel about it.
After he was sure that everything would be fine when he left, he went back to the cave. He pushed away any lingering thoughts about the girl, it's not like he was going to meet her again, anyways.

My question is: let's imagine that Nightmare had a childhood friend, his one and only childhood friend, and that she was a little girl who liked to fight to protect him and who literally had scars because of that because she literally fought every day to defend him, let's imagine that she survived the "incident", After the corruption of Nightmare how would he be with her? Would he be distant because he doesn't want to remember his past and the fact that he needed someone to defend himself, would he be tsundere with her or would he have a soft spot? Because I mean, his brother did not protect Nightmare because he was not aware of the others who harassed him, but she was the only one who had protected him, in part in any case. sooo.. would he be able to hurt her as much as he would be able to hurt Dream? After all, it's not as if she had protected Nightmare from absolutely everything, because as you said, it's not the only reason why Nightmare became corrupt and there were many others who added up.
ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ (i love that enoji-)
I really love your version of Dreamtale! Joku doesn't give any more news so I have trouble orienting myself with Dreamtale’s story, but you show a whole new vision of things with Soulsborne! The philosophy you gave to Nightmare is much more complex than that of the original but I really hope that Joku will develop Dreamtale in the future! And we're counting on you for Soulsborne and his development 🫵🏼
thank you for such kind words omg this version of dreamtale literally came to mind when me and @neotxnic were reading the original dreamtale comic after we had a session of elden ring - it was also around the time i was delving deep into the dark souls trilogy lore. i wanted to add more depth and tone to the world of dreamtale and fromsoft games have really good story telling and lore so i wanted that to reflect on our revision of the story. note that i'm not trying to compete with joku and the original dreamtale. i think the original is good as is and very fun + heartfelt to read. on anotherrrr note - this will be a really long response to the initial question so buckle up because i will lore dump.
For this specific scenario, I won't make this character's insertion into the lore canon yet - I actually want you lot to share your opinions on the addition of Nightmare having a childhood friend.

Nightmare and Dream were both born from the roots of Motus Arbor (the Tree of Feelings, the very being of Nim or what's left of her). The two of them are task to guard the tree - Dream guarding the negative apples and Nightmare guarding the positive ones.
Dream sought out to the people, he believes that through guarding the tree, he also has to guard the feelings of others. Thus, he often travels around the kingdom where he does his best to help his people have a brighter day.
Meanwhile, Nightmare keeps to himself and guards the tree while Dream focuses on their people to keep their emotions stable. He usually sits by the bed of motus arbor and reads books under its huge shade.
Because of Nightmare guarding the positive apples and the stereotype people have formed of him being the guardian of negativity (despite Dream's attempts to let people know that Nightmare isn't a bad person), many other kids would go behind Dream's back to harass Nightmare and accuse him of taking advantage of the positive apples.
This happens often but Nightmare never paid mind to these claims or mistreatment. Because of his pessimism being influenced by the positive apples that he guards, he's more of a realist (pessimism-leaning) - and so he doesn't see much value in the bullying.
However, a young girl around his age would stand up against the bullies, speaking up about their prejudice and unfair treatment. She called them out about how their judgement held no merit because they didn't know Nightmare personally, what right did they have to come to such conclusions about a person?
As the kids went away, Nightmare told her that there was no need for her to stand up for him since he wasn't affected by the mistreatment. He was perfectly fine simply ignoring the flock. She shook her head at his statement,
She told him her belief that passiveness won't progress society to a better environment. If we simply ignore the bad, does that make us good? Does that stop the evil? Does that stop the dishonesty? How will a wrong become a right if nothing is done for it to be so?
This philosophy was quickly dismissed by Nightmare; "Fighting fire with fire never bears any good fruit."
Despite their opposing ideals, this girl would pursue a friendship with the dark prince. She was true to herself despite how different their worldviews are but somehow, some of their morals were seen to overlap - such as their respect for intellect and honesty. The two both found enjoyment in books and being less social. It was a blissful friendship where they didn't feel the need to be someone else and the other was perfectly fine with it.
However, the conflict between Dream and Nightmare happened. Nightmare saw that Dream was being mistreated by the other kids, that they were abusing his kindness - and he hid his feelings from his very own brother, Nightmare. The guardian of negativity slowly realized that Dream's ignorance and selflessness - whilst spreading happiness… it was happiness given the wrong way. It was a clear imbalance.
And for the first time, he'd heed his friend's words: something had to be done. - and as for how nightmare would treat this friend of his in the present time? well, he holds no attachments. he had already stripped himself for any positive feelings towards anyone - including the very friend that pioneered his current ideals. however, deep down, he respects her integrity - a thought lingers within him that she'd understand his plans if one day she were to find out. however, if he finds reason to, he'll kill her with his own hands.

Miraak headcanons because I have brainrot. Take the food.
When he gets exposed to mead again he acts like he's not interested but the LDB eventually finds him sampling meads he hadn't had in centuries. Miraak has to build his tolerance back up but he enjoys the taste all the same.
Miraak would be very quiet while on the road. You'd see him just looking around, taking in the sights and sounds he'd almost forgotten. Though he'd wish bears didn't attack them so much. He finds them neat.
He was taken in by the cult as a young child so he doesn't remember much about his birth family besides his brother Vahlok.
The dragon priest Krosis acted much like his guardian, keeping an eye on him, scheduling his training and getting him out of trouble. Being a former master thief, he taught Miraak a few thing or two in stealth.
Labrythian would be a place he'd recognize the most and it'd give him some mixed feelings. Not that he'd vocalize it himself. In Bromjunaar he might wander to find where he used to sleep at one point. He wouldn't talk about it right away, but it'd be obvious it'd be kind of getting to him.
Nords wouldn't look at Miraak funny, since to them, he'd look like what some nords would aspire to be. Miraak finds it funny considering he's Atmoran but he lets them think he's just a tall nord.
Attraction wise, Miraak didn't really have a preference. In his youth he'd never stick with one concubine for too long. They'd bore him after a while and he'd crave someone who could hold an intelligent conversation. However there were hints he had an affinity for elves. He says his cult made of dark elves was just coincidence.
The imperialization of the Nordic pantheon had always made him quietly disappointed. He'd refuse to use any other names than what he was raised on.
Talos was a controversial topic at first, Miraak couldn't fathom how a dragonborn after him became a god instead and then became important to Nords. The other Ysmirs would make sense to him to a capacity. Heimskr in Whiterun had no idea that he'd be on the verge of being shouted across the cloud district.
While he's touch starved, he moreso craves the simpler ways of affection. Quietly linking his fingers with his s/o, hugging from behind and cuddling before passing out in bed.
Camping is a guilty pleasure for him because the ambiance at night makes it easy for him to sleep. Silence makes it hard for him to get drowsy so he'd often leave windows cracked if he has to sleep indoors.

I think the reason why you often see more game/show/movie announcements for a random Marvel character you never heard of where DC primarily focuses on Batman and Batman related characters is because...Marvel built more trust with the obscure.
All the way back when they started the MCU, Marvel didn't have the rights to its more iconic, recognizable, and, more important, marketable characters. Spider-Man went to Sony, X-Men and Fantastic Four went to Fox, and even the Hulk was technically owned Universal. By the time the MCU was being conceived, Marvel only had its C-listers and D-listers. No one even HEARD of characters like Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, and ESPECIALLY the Guardians of the Galaxy before the MCU. Even characters like Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor, characters considered Marvel's big three nowadays, characters who the MCU relied on, weren't as huge as DC's big three. Meanwhile, DC had access to ALL of its characters, relying on its most recognizable IPs like Batman and Superman...And, oh yeah, I guess Wonder Woman was there too...Sometimes.
But the biggest seller was always Batman. Because how could he not be? He looked cool, he had an impressive rogues gallery to make toys of, and is everything for DC as Spider-Man was to Marvel. Both Batman and Spider-Man could sell anything. But Marvel technically didn't have the FULL rights to Spider-Man and DC...didn't bother with its other characters. Batman made bank with his videogames, movies, and TV shows to the point where they could sell a Gotham prequel series to Fox and STILL make a lot of cash. Why bother making a movie about Aquaman or The Flash when it likely won't sell as well as BATMAN. Sure, you got a Green Arrow TV show on the same network as a Superman prequel series, but that didn't change how most of DC's other projects weren't connected to Batman in someway.
Teen Titans was a show that starred Robin, Batman's sidekick. Same with Young Justice. And the only time kids got introduced to other DC characters, it was for a campy show like Batman: The Brave and the Bold where BATMAN teamed up with a hero a week. Which would have been a smart way to bring other characters into the light, but it's still connected strictly through BATMAN. Even now, DC has what is best described as a Batman problem. The Flash was a movie that featured two versions of Batman, one of them bringing in nostalgia through a past Batman movie instead of focusing on an old Flash product. And with the last few years, the only video games were Batman related, with Gotham Knights starring Batman's sidekicks and that Suicide Squad game starring Harley Quinn, a BATMAN villain who goes to kill BATMAN that's actually the same BATMAN from an old BATMAN game.
And yeah...I love Batman. We ALL love Batman. He's the coolest character ever conceived and it's the easiest thing in the world to make a movie about him. It might not be a GOOD movie sometimes, but it's at least a movie that'll make billions. But with this over-saturation of Batman, it left DC unsure if they can make anything big WITHOUT him. Because how can they be sure it'll succeed without their signature character that gave them a shitload of money?
But let's go back to Marvel. Starting a cinematic universe without their most popular IPs was a risk. They SORT of had the rights to the Hulk, but...there was no way Hulk would have made more money than a Spider-Man movie. If they wanted to make a successful franchise, Marvel had to put more faith in its other characters, allowing to make good movies and hope that enough people would be interested to see more. And...it worked. Iron Man was a hit, Thor and Captain America got people interest, and the big pay off was the box office smash that was The Avengers. Everyone started to know these characters and it didn't stop there. Guardians of the Galaxy became popular enough to be another big franchise for Marvel, Black Panther became the most popular Black superhero after Blade (another Marvel character), and people were left BEGGING for Spider-Man and the X-Men to join this universe so they could see their old favorites interact with their NEW favorites. And that just...never stopped. Marvel kept pushing more and more characters to the spotlight, with it paying it off for them.
Before 2014, NO ONE would consider buying a Guardians of the Galaxy game. But due to the MCU's revamping of those characters, it was enough to make people willing to do so. And in a few years, we're getting games based on Iron Man, Captain America and Black Panther, and JUST Black Panther, all because the Marvel had enough faith to turn this C-listers into A-listers. As for TV shows, we've got connected MCU stuff like Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel, but also a really good and imaginative cartoon with Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
Now, to be fair, it's not paying off for Marvel, especially with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels causing the studio to lose bank. They're even thinking about cutting back on riskier stuff and focusing on their bigger franchises. Which...honestly sounds dumb to me not only because the MCU was founded on taking risks, but also because DC is exactly what you get when you focus on JUST the money makers. We're still getting nothing but Batman and Batman related characters or movies/universes that references nothing but Batman. To the point where I just want DC to retire Batman for a year, maybe TWO tops. Marvel proved that you can make a hit if you let other characters than the most marketable one. Even if it fails like The Marvels did, it's not because Captain Marvel isn't as iconic as Iron Man, it's because the movie wasn't as well-written enough. It was a fun time, sure, but not as strongly written as other MCU films. And that's what DC needs to learn and Marvel to remember: It's not about who's the most popular, it's about strong writing.
Hopefully we get more attention on lesser-known Marvel and DC characters in the future.

Well shit.
"Miss Marinette how do you know of the kwamii, especially those two?" Alfred questioned and she curled a bit under his gaze.
"I… Paon." She looked up at him, but averted her eyes towards Jay, but he was staring at both herself and Alfred. "August 24th 1944."
She looked up, the words she was speaking didn’t seem like her own. But she knew them all the same. Alfred seemed to pale.
"How do you know that?" He staggered slightly, catching himself on the back of a couch.
"It’s when they were lost." She shrugged, the story that Fu passed to her easily came to her mind, because it wasn’t her memory but Fu’s. (Guardians pass memories along to the next so they wouldn’t repeat the same mistakes.)
"I am so lost, Alfie?" Dick rose and tried to get the older man to talk.
"You are much to young."
"Ha." She snorted. "And you think I didn’t tell Fu that."
She crossed her arms.
"Where are they? You said they were lost, how? I can’t seem to remember." Dick had gotten him to sit down but his every question sent pangs through her heart.
"They have been found, and are safe." She was still fiddling with her ring.
"The miraculous of the black cat." Alfred spoke so certainly that it forced her to look up, away from the the kwamii she had drawn. "Where is he? He can come out, we…"
He looked around at the boys but stopped when his eyes landed on her. Silent tears rushed her face, all the words she has been wanting to share choked her.
Tikki, she wishes she was still here but that will never happen. Plagg, she didn’t meet often but he really did care about her, the other kwamii, and especially Chat Noir. Chat Noir has it worse she has told herself constantly. More than likely Plagg was his friend too and then overnight without warning he was gone, no way to contact her, and not knowing why.
"Nettie…" Jay stepped towards her, quickly glancing between her and Alfred, stopping in his tracks. "What’s going on?"
"They’re gone." She finally choked out. "I got the grimore, Nooroo, and even Dusuu back, but… I miss them."
"What did you do?" Alfred dropped down onto the floor and lifted her chin.
"I won the war in Paris."
"What war?" Dick she thinks spoke but her eyes were on Alfred, his aura calming her.
She pulled out her phone and quickly searched it, turning the device towards the others.
"What is this!" A voice she wasn’t expecting practically growled, Bruce was standing in the room, reading over Dick’s shoulder.
"You made a wish?"
The question wasn’t accusatory, but she flinched. "No, but it might have hurt less if I did." She finally looked away from the group.
"Marinette, who are you?" Alfred asked her, she looked up and something clicked a flash of dark blue light emulated from him. Pinned on his lapel was none other than the miraculous of the peacock. The man tenderly touched the broach as if it was going to disappear forever, she knew she could trust him, so with that she took a breath.
"I am, Marinette Dupain-Cheng, Holder of the miraculous of the ladybug, the heroine of Paris, Ladybug, and the guardian of the Chinese zodiac Box of Miracles." She addressed resolutely, her conviction and pride fueled every word, while understanding seemed to flood Alfred’s features.
"If I had known… " Alfred whispered, looking at her like the pieces fell into place.
"Are you saying this happened, that children fought this maniac. Why not ask for help, there are other heroes in Paris, even the Justice League could have sent reinforcements." Bruce seemed to seethe.
"It’s not like I was given a choice, the other heroes left or quit, besides the Justice League knew about it and did nothing." She became defensive, even if she felt she could trust them, Bruce’s tone rubbed her the wrong way. She started this fight at the tender age of 11. Fought a magical war while trying to not feel anything for 3 years. Endured bullying and heartbreak for just as long, but couldn’t let herself feel it. So yes she is angry when someone she barely knows is offering ‘solutions’ when she had exhausted them long ago.
She didn’t even notice how quiet the room had gotten, but was staring at the man who offended her character. She was a child when all this started, of course she tried, but why, why would he be so mad. That is what she didn’t understand.
"Master Bruce calm yourself!" Alfred scolded the other adult in the room. (Who was making a straight beeline towards the grandfather clock to his right.)
"It doesn’t matter anymore, it’s over." She sighed finally deflating, knowing that anything done now won’t change anything.
"Miss Marinette, that is not nothing." Alfred stood and faced her.
"That is not something you should have had to do alone."
"I wasn’t, I had a partner." She mumbled as if it would change the minds of the adults.
"You said you were the holder of the ladybug miraculous, but you are wearing the miraculous of the black cat. Did you wield both?" She was asked by Alfred who seemed to know the most.
"I did a few times, but I wasn’t Plagg’s cat, I was Tikki’s. My partner was Chat Noir, he was the holder of the black cat."
"What happened to him?"
"I don’t know?" She shrugged. She took off the ring and started tracing the face of the ring. "Probably worried, Hawkmoth, Plagg, Ladybug, and Chat Noir disappeared without warning from his life. Black cats really are bad luck."
"Nettie, you’re a hero". Jay was now right in front of her, tentatively he reached out and took her hands.
"Was… the kwamii don’t exist in this universe, not anymore."
"My dear." Alfred placed a hand on the top of her head. "This proves they still can. That they are more of the metaphysical than before."
He tapped the broach before pointing to the ring in her hands before noticing her earrings.
"Why don’t you both go to bed, it’s getting late, and it’s a school night." Bruce finally spoke again. He was still angry, yet she could tell his anger wasn’t towards her. Actually she couldn’t tell who he was angry at, but she knows he is.
"Okay." Mari palmed the last tears from her eyes as Jay stood up and pulled her from the room.
•••
"Alfred tell us all you can." Master Bruce marched down the steps into the cave.
Master Dick and himself followed. "I don’t know what exactly happened to her, but the miraculous, I may be able to shed some light on."
"If my math is correct she was eleven when all of that started. B she was a child." Master Dick was horrified.
Although he went through similar event he was older, the boy was only 13 at the time of his parents accident after all. Master Bruce was also young during his parents death, and although he became the Bat it wasn’t until he was and adult.
"Why did no one take it seriously?" He was scanning all calls to the Justice league, until a call log from Paris showed on the screen marked from two and a half years ago.
‘You’ve reached the Justice League, how can we help?’ A bored voice, the log said Booster Gold, answered the phone with a yawn.
‘Hello! Please Paris needs adult heroes, all the older heroes left and we can’t keep this up!’ A young female voice started to rush their words.
‘I’ve told you before, kid, nothing has happened in Paris. Stop prank calling. This line is only for actual emergencies that require actual heroes.’ Booster Gold seemed to wave the girl off. ‘Don’t call again.’
They continued through the log, some earlier calls were looked into but since nothing seemed to be proven they dropped the inquiry. If what they saw from the site the Ladyblog it was no wonder. All damage all lives taken were brought back in pristine condition. Ladybug, Marinette, and who she called Chat Noir were the primary heroes for the past three years. Few other heroes would aid them, which he recognized the miraculous that they used.
"We can’t do anything about this can we." Master Jason had come down into the cave. "She’s asleep."
"The past is past, unfortunately." Master Bruce dragged his hands down his face. "Besides these children are practically meta, or even magic users, right?"
"Yes. But don’t forget these children grew into child soldiers and more than likely they could not trust anyone with this pressure. If Miss Marinette’s emotional collapse is any indication." Alfred supplied.
"Jay go to bed Dick and I will go on patrol."
"But."
"Jason." Bruce snapped at the boy.
"Fine…" The child surrendered, all his fight leaving him at Bruce’s words. The boy trudged up the steps.
"Bruce he’s worried for his friend! Can’t you see that." Master Dick slammed his hands on the desk in front of him.
"She’s a meta Dick."
"She is a child."
"That doesn’t change facts." Bruce spun around to face his elder ward.
"You work with aliens, metas, even magic users, and so do I. Our teams are made up by them, so what’s the difference." Master Bruce didn’t say anything, making the young man even angrier. "Figure it out Bruce." Dick started to walk away, before turning back. "Don’t call until you do."
He left without another word.
"Master Bruce."
Silence.

— RIGHT WHERE YOU LEFT ME
published on: june 27, 2023 pairing: miguel o'hara & reader word count: 700+ note: so, i watched the across the spiderverse movie recently and... i think you know the rest. tags: @mylovelyreblogs
Dreams haunt you at night.
It's weird because, truly, you never cared about them. You always forgot them by the time you woke up, your guardians say. It's never real, they reassure you. You cannot dream of something you have never seen before.
Those words allowed you to grow out of your curiosity, pushing it aside — for that everything is temporary and utterly pointless. Dreams became foggy reminders of the creative and mysterious ways of the mind manifesting its wishes, fears and everything, all at once, until it all became irrelevant.
Indeed, you never remembered them once you realized how insignificant dreaming is to your living experience. You discarded them by the moment your eyes opened to the blinding lights around you.
Yet, here you are.
Haunted.
It is hard to pinpoint the exact moment they began. Perhaps, much like a little spider, they slowly crawled their way back to you, when you least expected it, when you were the most vulnerable. It began with little flashes as you woke up, recalling what had transpired in your mind. Then, thoughtful moments as you tried to process it, tried to understand whatever was going on with you.
How can it be possible for someone like you to feel—
They aren’t real.
Yet, whenever you close your eyes, they are. Everything blooms to life. Everything is so real behind your closed eyelids, in your head, that you become unsure if your living reality is the false reality, if your dreaming reality is truly this magical. You come to life, like a real human being.
There is a child in your dreams. You don't know her name, but it is when you close your eyes into that deep slumber that you do and you know her dreams, her hopes and all that goes behind those childish eyes, filled with innocence. They are so beautiful, and it reminds you of the wonders of humanity, of what it is to be human and to be young and to be free.
You want to be free — a particular wish you have never had, a dream you have never cared about that now follows you back to your reality, now outside the dreaming reality that continues to chase you. It is poison.
Even so, you want it.
You have been convinced that you need no one besides your guardians, and, perhaps, with reason. They have created you — this version of you, stripped of everything but your memories, your now twisted consciousness. They are the only ones who can guarantee your safety and survival. If something were to happen to you, you would be gone forever. No trace to be found, for that they had already been erased off the face of the very Earth you walked.
Yet, there is a man in your dreams. He is often with the same girl that calls you by your name and grabs your hand — gripping the flesh in your hand — as she speaks happily about what she has done at school and how much she loves to play some iteration of American football with her father. Just like her, you don’t know this man and you certainly don’t recognize him from anywhere.
Your mind deceives you. It tells you that this man is familiar to you, it tells you to lend him your trust. Indeed, in these dreams, he reminds you of the warmth that you once knew, back when you were normal, before everything changed. Perhaps, because you feel so incredibly different and real in these dreams, it makes you believe that you can trust him, that you are as human as he is. You are an outsider to the family in your dreams — that much you know — but he treats you like you are a part of it all.
Why don’t you stay? His whisper reminds you that all is temporary and everything is purely constructed by the power of your mind. It is intriguing, to say the least, that those words seem to ground you, allowing you to remain in this confusing reality for a little longer before you are abruptly awakened.
You have had enough.
You want to disable the feature. You have stopped being human a long time ago, and you cannot understand the futile attempt, nor the reasons behind all of this. You will never be alive like you are in your dreams, and that is a dream that is completely impossible to achieve — even for scientists as smart and as incredible as your guardians.
You aren’t their daughter anymore.
You aren’t you anymore.
If you cannot be human as you are in your sleep, then you will be free. At the very least, that is what you want.

Awww, that was adorable! Danny struggling not coo at how adorable the two were being was great, lol.
I think I have one final addition to this AU that I only thought of because of the detail of Danny being a former (and probably the greatest) peacock holder. This is also a bit self indulgent, but imagine that Ladybug and Chat Noir somehow manage to lure out Mayura, and then they make a comment about saying something like “Oh, you should be more worried about him then us”. As they say this, they look towards the sky as a green beam of energy descends onto the ground as if a god was coming down to the mortal place, only to reveal a pissed off Danny. Naturally, he easily kicks her ass, and for the first time Ladybug and Chat Noir see how scary Danny can be. What do you think?
Honestly, I really like the idea of Danny beating Mayura even without really flashy powers. >:3 Just good old intangibility, invisibility, and fists. But I can imagine he gives her a warning shot. ;3
I won't write out the build-up, since you have it in hand, but I can write the action sequence!:
---
Mayura hadn't expected it to be a trap. Ladybug and Chat Noir tried not to retreat if they could help it, but their limited timers made it a necessity more often than not, although the two young heroes typically found ways to make up for lost ground. This time was different. Truthfully, the last few months had been different.
Whereas they had once been untrained, now they were more refined, quicker to respond, more willing to take... harsher methods. No one was ever severely harmed while doing so- as expected, they were still naive children at the end of the day- but they pushed limits that had once been left untouched and Mayura had few theories for what could have caused such a change.
Gabriel believed that the Guardian had taken them into their instruction, but Natalie didn't think so. After all, where was all this months ago, at the start of the hero careers? Where was all this when they had been new on their feet and fresh-faced to the battle? But whatever the cause may be, Ladybug and Chat Noir had become a more formidable foe these past few months and Gabriel was starting to feel irritated.
It was why Natalie was out here now, as Mayura. She tried not to use the Peacock Miraculous if she could help it, but so long as they wrapped this up quickly, efficiently, then they could concern themselves with the consequences later (as per usual).
She hadn't expected any more company.
She certainly hadn't expected the energy beam from the sky.
Mayura jumped over to another rooftop to escape the blast, crouching to offset the force of her jump. Suddenly, Chat Noir's remark made much more sense because she was faced with the furious face of the strange being that had flitted through Paris' streets all those months ago.
So this was their helper? That could be the only explanation-
Mayura threw herself out of the way of another fist, which missed her by a hair's breath. But her opponent didn't hold back, and Mayura became intimately aware of how unmatched she was. She could handle Ladybug and Chat Noir fairly well, they tended to hold back when they dealt with Akuma and that carried over to facing other threats. But this one?
He was faster than her, and he fought with a vicious edge she was in no way prepared for. She could barely dodge, but quite frankly, she was afraid to find out what would happen if she actually got hit.
She didn't have to wait long, because a fist collided with her stomach and sent her tumbling to the ground. Her only saving grace was the sentimonster she created to deter her opponent.
Mayura used that to give herself some breathing room, to wrap her mind around her next move of attack. She should retreat, most likely, but she was sure this one would follow her. And she couldn't imagine she would have as easy a time throwing them off her tracks. Not if they were always this fast.
She looked on in what could only be described as horror as her enemy sheared straight through the sentimonster with smoking green fists and glowing green eyes and she knew she was done.
---
Phantom could actually be pretty terrifying. Adrien had already kind of known this, of course, but seeing how easily he trounced Mayura made it a little more real. Mayura was a tricky one to handle usually, she was clever, and dare Adrien say more creative than Hawkmoth. But Phantom didn't care about any of that. He just pushed and pushed and Mayura fell.
Honestly, Adrien thought it might be better if she just didn't get up. Yielding would be better than facing Phantom's fury any further.
Adrien shivered. He couldn't tell if it was from fear, awe, or anticipation.
Phantom was awesome. He was like a real life anime protagonist. He wanted to be Phantom when he grew up.

STEAMROLLS IN. dust clears and everytjing is perfectly fine except for me who has been steamrolled. mineru or purah hcs……,,,
Tumblr media
HEHEHEH. HEH
WEL. I will be doing purah since I haven't thought about mineru too much yet I just think she's neat
so. in general I think purah is a bit of an oddball, not just in how she dresses but also how she behaves and her opinions on a lot of things. she's brutally honest which is a characteristic she shares with impa, except uh. well impa basically only became that brutally honest in her old age and more or less held her tongue to an extent when she was younger. this isn't completely why I headcanon that purah is autistic (I just like headcanoning characters as nd because it's relatable to me sometimes) but it is part of the reason lmao
her and robbie are childhood friends! they latched onto each other when they were like. eight. and they still keep in pretty close contact in botw! robbie and purah have pretty much always understood their relationship to be completely platonic though they have been teased/questioned about it only for them to look confused and go "um no we are besties what are you talking about "
speaking of that. we're going to go into "stuff i just made up and have no evidence for" territory. but I like to think that even before the whole prophecy thing started and the divine beasts and guardians were excavated purah had a rudimentary understanding of ancient sheikah tech from poking around where she shouldn't have and experimenting. i really don't think the sheikah tribe a century ago had any interest in it for the most part. in fact i think they kinda. discouraged it. heavily. they still know the legends, and before the yiga clan emerges they were basically a boogeyman for young children—an almost comically exaggerated evil (and they turned out to be that way lmao.) so purah got a lot of "you're going to become like the yiga clan if you don't quit messing around with things you shouldn't!" when she was younger and robbie got punished along with her as sort of an accomplice/enabler lmao. they were not well liked and often kept to themselves.
yeah then the whole "the thing you need lies buried underground" or whatever happened. suddenly purah isn't the Freak Child Who Must be Punished but basically a prodigy and their only hope and incredible and stuff. this told purah and robbie one thing primarily: none of this praise could be trusted. the moment the tech stopped being relevant they would be discarded again, so they had to do everything in their power to stay useful and relevant. the guardians and divine beasts becoming corrupted was a huge blow to them both, especially robbie. also yeah the general consensus amongst the tribe after the calamity was that sheikah tech sucked now and though they didn't...prevent people from messing around with it it's still frowned upon to this day. that's kind of why symin never went back lmao. both he and purah do visit from time to time but mostly just to see their families.
speaking of family. purah adores her grand-niece. paya calls her auntie purah! purah's somewhat closed off about this. also she's worried about paya taking impa's place as chieftain because of what a doormat she is. she doesn't think impa prepared her very well and probably thinks cado or dorian should become chieftain instead lmao. (if we're going to talk abt totk, i think purah got really pissed at impa for just running off and leaving kakariko to get crushed by falling ruins and giving up all her responsibility to paya like seriously wtf. impa. one of your closest advisors/guards got their house crushed by a fancy rock and of course those dipshit hylian researchers aren't helping paya doesn't know what to do go back and HELP FIX IT. AAAAAAAAA)
hopefully i won't get more insatiably pissed about totk on main. but oh girl purah is not happy during the events of that game. hiding eyebags with makeup kinda unhappy. though i also think she has a horrible sleep schedule in general. i just dont really think she has any reason to be i mean yeah she managed to scrounge up what was left of her life's work even though most of it vanished without an explanation. so again she tries to stay relevant by helping develop the towers and the purah pad (minimally.) she's spearheading the development of a new town that I'm assuming will probably make an effort to restore castle town when it gets bigger. she is desperate for something to do, some way to be beautiful and useful and cool again, but she gets this looming feeling in the back of her head that none of it will last, and she fears for herself and her tribe, hoping to appeal to hylians and princess zelda as much as possible to avoid disaster.
did i mention i think she's very particular about her appearance? cause she is. she masks a LOT, and she does not like looking bad or foolish or weak to anyone. I mean she is fine with being weird, likes pushing that boundary to see what's palatable for other people, and tries to befriend and protect people who she thinks might be ostracized, but again, she fears not being palatable. she doesn't want to be bullied or shunned, and she wants to look like nothing affects her.
i also think she understates how much she and impa didn't get along as kids. they do generally get along better now, but they try not to step on each other's toes and they've tried to be there for each other during hard times. they love each other very much but yeah they do not touch...sensitive issues
her and josha have sort of a child and her weird aunt thing going on. josha just kinda latched onto purah randomly at some point purah was like "oh no" internally but befriended josha and yeah
she's not completely agnostic but she's about as close as you can get. does not care about religion and does what she does because she cares about other people
oh also she's a lesbian

Heyy, love your stories, can you write a sky (from fate) x reader one shot where y/n and sky get pregnant and he swears to be a better dad than his ever was
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Y/n and Sky had been together for 3 years. They had meet through y/n's dad and Silva, the two men had been apart of the group who tried to destroy the burned ones and had kept in contact afterwards. They often met up to allow Sky and y/n to play together, the kids often having sleepovers whenever one of the two men had to work. Both Sky and y/n grew up around Alfea with their dad/ guardians teaching there. So there was no surprise when the two became an item in their first year of Alfea.
Y/n was a mind fairy, she always thought her powers were useless but Sky and her father ensured that she knew that mind fairies can become some of the most powerful fairies, and that she would be important for any missions, possibly gaining entry to the enemies head. Often times she used her powers to get into Sky's head if he tried to block people out. Sky was someone who wouldn't reveal what he was feeling and y/n knew this/ SO when she entered her mind Sky knew she was present, but he also knew that she wouldn't overstep the boundaries, she never used her powers against him, only when it was for his benefit.
Currently however, the feelings she felt were her own. Y/n sat on her bed, looking at a test in her hands. Two lines came up clear as day and the blue test on the ground near her feet clearly spelt the news, she was pregnant. Y/n and Sky had always been cautious when things got heated between the two, but clearly their methods weren't 100% effective. Shock and sadness were evident feelings y/n had, Sky had just turned 18 and y/n was 17 for another six months. Both had their studies ahead of them and they certainly weren't in a great position to raise a baby. But despite these feelings there was also slight happiness present. Y/n had always dreamt of having a family of her own. She liked the idea of being a young mom, but her idea of young was in her 20's, not in her teen years. She could barely look after herself, let alone another human been.
Y/n's thoughts turned to her boyfriend. Sky had always portrayed how he wasn't sure if he wanted to have kids of his own or not. His relationship with his father was always a touchy subject, the older man was never really present in his life, and had supposedly been dead for the most of it. Having been raised by Silva since he was young, Sky had seen Silva as a great father figure, but the feeling of the loss of a father scarred Sky. Sky didn't want that for is own kids, he didn't want to have the child become fatherless because of his job as a soldier. And those feelings never changed when Andreas came back alive, infact Sky never spoke of his feelings about that situation.
Y/n was pulled out of her trance when she heard a knock on the door. She knew who was behind it and fear shot through her veins, not of who it was but more of what she was going to have to tell him. The news could go one of two ways, and y/n knew that Sky's reaction wasn't something that could be predicted. However, this wasn't something that could be brushed to the back of her mind and forgotten about, she was going to have to tell him.
“Are you going to leave me hanging?” Sky called through the door jokingly causing y/n to jump up as she realized she was still sitting around. “Coming.” Y/n called, quickly grabbing the two tests and slipping them into her hoodie pocket before going to open the door. “I think I aged waiting on you to open the door.” Sky smirked as the door opened to reveal him leaning against the wall. “Well you still look dashingly handsome.” Y/n smiled back and Sky chuckled before walking into the room and closing the door behind him.
Y/n went to move back into the room only for Sky to grab her by the waist and turn her back to face him. She giggled slightly as he brought his hands up to cup her face before bringing his lips to hers. Out of instinct, y/n brought her hands to his waist, smiling as the two shared a long kiss. After a few minutes, the two pulled apart for air and y/n smiled as she opened her eyes. Sky placed his forehead against hers as he brought his hands to her waist.
“Hmm, I missed you.” He stated, smiling as y/n chuckled lightly. “You were gone for two days.” Y/n reasoned. “And what a drag it was.” Sky stated causing y/n to laugh as she pulled away from him, ignoring him mumbling in protest. “How was training away from Alfea anyway.” Y/n asked as she moved around the room, picking up her books from the ground and placing them back into a pile on her desk. “Just a few of those squid things that take fairy magic that needed to be gotten rid of.” Sky stated, crossing his arms as he watched her move around the room suspiciously. “Fun.” Y/n smiled, not looking up as she walked towards her wardrobe, hanging up some dropped clothes. “Your bypassing something.” Sky observed, narrowing his eyes slightly. “What do you mean?” Y/n asked, knitting her eyebrows as she fluffed up her pillows. “You suddenly avoid eye contact with me, your moving around doing random things when we all know the little mess present is natural for you. What’s going on?” Sky asked, moving closer to his girlfriend as she brushed past him and grabbed a copy from her desk and opened it. “I think your being a little dramatic.” Y/n stated, chickling slightly. “I think that you know that I don’t need to be a mind fairy to know when you’re not feeling yourself.” Sky stated, walking to y/n and taking the copy out of her hands before placing his hands on her waist, “Come on, what’s up?” Sky asked, tucking y/n’s hair behind her ear as he looked into her eyes.
Y/n scanned Sky's eyes as she tried to think of how to say what was going on. Sky watched as her eyes flashed purple for a second before returning to her natural e/c eyes. Y/n sighed before taking his hands on hers before guiding him to her bed and sat on it before turning to face her boyfriend. Sky watched as she crossed her legs and tucked her hair behind her ears before looking up at him.
“I’m not sure how to tell you this so I’m just going to come out with it.” Y/n stated, knowing it would probably be best to just rip it like a band aid. “Okay? Y/n you have me worried.” Sky stated, looking at his girlfriend as she took a deep breath and placed her hands in her pockets. “Sky I’m pregnant.” “What?” Sky asked, not speaking after that. “I found out today, literally just before you came here. I had been feeling sick and I missed my period so I decided just to be safe I would take one. I wasn’t expecting it to come back positive because we had been cautious but I guess they aren’t 100% preventatives so, here we are.” Y/n rambled, stopping when she seen Sky frozen in shock.
Sky sat on y/n's bed, barely moving as he comprehended what y/n just said. Y/n knew how Sky felt about having kids and she knew that this would be a shock for him. It was a shock for her too, they were only near the end of year three in Alfea, but they also had another three to go before they were free. Y/n watched Sky as he didn't move before sighing and holding his shoulder, deciding to read his thoughts and emotions.
Y/n winched as she read his thoughts, his memories of his childhood coming to light. Andreas had always been strict with Sky and had begun training him once he was able to walk and hold a sword. She felt the emotions her boyfriend had when he watched Andreas continuously leaving and Sky telling him his father was dead. The fear and loneliness Sky felt was strong and y/n winched again as the feelings increased. She gasped before felling someone grabbing her hand, knocking her out of her trance. She blinked rapidly before seeing Sky holding her wrist, beady eyes watching hers as he shook his head.
“Sky…” Y/n started only for Sky to smile slightly, taking her other hand in his. “It’s okay, don’t worry about him, he isn’t worth it.” Sky stated, referring to the memories y/n had just seen of Andreas. “Sky…” Y/n stopped herself and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him into a hug, Sky accepting it.
The two sat in silence, enjoying the embrace they shared, and they both sighed as they pulled apart. From practically lying on top of Sky, y/n leaned to pull away only for the two tests to fall out of her pocket. Sky looked down as he felt something falling onto his floor, and crouched down to pick it up. He stared at what was in his hands when he realized what they were. Y/n looked down at the tests that were now held in his hand, before looking up at Sky to see his reaction.
“So, your pregnant.” Sky acknowledged once again. “Yeah, I am.” Y/n nodded in agreement. “How are you feeling?” “I’m not sure. This wasn’t planned so I’m not sure how to react.” Y/n stated, letting out her feelings. “It is big news.” “yep.” Y/n nodded. “A big change.” “Yes.” Y/n spoke, rolling her eyes at Sky practically repeating himself. “Are you going to be a mom?” Sky asked, causing y/n to look up at him. “I always wanted to be a mom. Loved the idea of being a young mom but when I thought young, I never thought it would be this young. I mean I’m only 17.” Y/n explained, and Sky listened as she spoke her feelings “I’m scared and sad that it’s happened, but I’m also excited about this new chapter.” Y/n smiled as she allowed her feelings to sink in before looking at Sky, “Are you going to be a dad? I don’t want you to feel I am forcing you into this, you can walk away from this if you want, no strings attached.” She watched as Sky looked down in thought. “It was never something I thought of. I always remember the feelings I felt when Andreas left me for missions, and the loneliness I felt when Silva told me he had supposedly died. I never wanted to bring that to another kid, didn’t know if I wanted to do that. Sure Silva was great but he wasn’t my dad, you know.” Sky explained and y/n nodded, just listening as he spoke his thoughts, “But when Andreas came back, I remembered all the times he was strict, and how he wasn’t one to show emotions. He trained me since I could walk and hold a sword and I don’t want that for my kid.” Y/n held Sky’s hand as he got things off his chest. “I want to be a father to our baby y/n, and I swear to you right now, that I will be a better dad than my father was to me.”
Y/n smiled at Sky and allowed him to pull her into a hug- Sky wrapped an arm around y/n’s waist and she giggled as he pulled the two of them to lie on the bed- Sky smiled and kissed y/n’s forehead before bringing the test in his hand up to their eye sight.
“That’s crazy.” Sky stated. “It sure is.” Y/n hummed in agreement. “And you just took them today?” “uhuh, literally around 15minutes before you came.” Y/n explained, leaning on Sky’s chest. “That’s insane.” Sky stated causing y/n to giggle at his reaction.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cries echoed the walls of the room as y/n gave one final push. Sky stood beside her, holding her hand and brushing her sweaty hair back as he comforted her the best he could. He looked down at the end of the bed before laughing in happiness when he seen their baby being passed by the doctor to the nurse.
“Congratulations, you’ve a healthy baby boy.” The nurse congratulated the couple, placing the baby on moms chest. “Hey baby, I’m you mommy.” Y/n cried, the pain she felt disappearing as she cooed at her baby to silence. “And I’m your daddy.” Sky stated, tears falling as he rubbed a finger down his newborn sons cheek. Y/n looked up at Sky to see the hesitance in his eyes. “Your going to be an amazing dad.” Y/n smiled and Sky looked at y/n tearfully, taking the baby from her arms. “I’m gonna be better than he was.” He stated to y/n before looking down at his son, “Yes I am.” He cooed down at the baby and y/n smiled, watching as their son took Sky’s finger. “I have no doubt about it.” She stated before allowing the nurse to help clean her up.

headcanons abt Astarion’s past ft. my bc of his mom
+ her in my origin run as his guardian bc nobody is safe
Tumblr media
ok ok so onto the headcanons
personally I’ve named her Lysistrata in my head by complete accident bc I was rereading bosas when I was first thinking abt this so
for his mom i think she was a Paladin/cleric of sorts?? or some kind of good-aligned mercenary
so like she’d come back with all these grand stories about monsters and magic for wee little Astarion and I think he would’ve found them so fascinating as a child which would’ve led him to become interested in monsters & monstrous things up until he was an “adult” and began pursuing darker things like more power and immortality n stuff
Astarion has her hair texture & thickness, and before he was turned he had her eyes bc I cannot stand blue-eyed astarion (he needs to be able to look at the sun)
Between his two parents Astarion was much closer with his mom bc she always had such interesting stories and she absolutely spoiled him with gifts and books n stuff
I see her being the type to try to see the good in everything so she’d often sympathize with some monsters (let’s say in cases like a parent trying to protect its young) and I think that kind of stuck with Astarion in terms of him being more willing to deal with the less savory as a magistrate (or just an excuse for him to take bribes because “they’ve all got families to feed” or whatever)
in connection to that I think the biggest reason Astarion never went to her for help was bc he didn’t think there was any good left in him and that she’d hate him and end his misery in the name of what she once stood for (also lowkey hc her as being a follower of Lathander so…)
she taught him a lot but I think she herself wasn’t the greatest abt love and opening up to people and she has a hard time putting complex feelings into words so all Astarion really got was “sometimes you really like a person?? but sometimes you just like their body but also sometimes their soul and um. don’t commit to relationships you don’t want to?”
her husband is definitely a dork I’m sorry
like my original headcanon is him as an inventor but I could see him dealing in magic as well
I don’t think that he wasn’t necessarily loving but I think he just didn’t pay as much attention to Astarion as his mother did so they just naturally weren’t super close
However his dad did drag him to a bunch of social functions n all that so combine that with how spoiled Astarion was and you get classic rich boy
Astarion got his hair color & most of his face from his dad and I keep really wanting to call him Felix
After Astarion became a magistrate his mom didn’t approve of some of the things he did but she still loved him anyway, once he started trying to carve out more power and immortality she tried getting her husband to speak to Astarion abt the dangers of such ambitions but he didn’t really talk to him abt it and when he DID talk to Astarion, astarion didn’t really listen
When Astarion first disappeared Lysistrata practically tore the city apart looking for him and called in a lot of favors from old flaming fist friends n stuff but they couldn’t find him. So she resorted to a fiend warlock pact trying to find him but all she was led to was this overgrown grave with suspiciously fresh dirt and she was convinced she was lied to and broke the pact so now she’s got horns :] good job Astarion look what you did to your mother
^after this her marriage became extremely strained as she began to blame her husband for not warning Astarion but she also blamed herself for not trying to do anything herself. Thank goodness she was invited to a dinner by a local noble to help cheer her up! I sure hope he wasn’t an oily little weasel. Nowadays she does a lot of investigations on missing children in and around Baldur’s Gate and she helps out with orphanages
for my durge specific i think she would either learn of some shit going down at the Crimson Palace between this elf and cazador OR she would run into Vael (durge) picking up a portrait of Astarion and she would then inquire about why Vael was getting such a thing
idk overall she’s just very, very tired. as of now in my headcanons Astarion is her only child and to lose him so soon with no answers took a lot of her hope away from her. Especially since any gods she prayed too wouldn’t have answered for the whereabouts of some disgusting vampire
girlypop probably prayed to send Astarion a guardian Angel and then he gets sent durge
Vael’s trying his hardest but he was raised half in the hells and half in the cult of Bhaal he stinks so bad

Question, for you reverse guardian au
Can miserable jack, like, talk?
Or is he selectively mute?
Or was it that he communicate with ice and snow writing since he was to miserable to talk?
I want to know for research purposes
👀
omg someone is asking about my most fav au
So from what I came up with, he can and does talk, but he doesn't like to. He prefers blessed silence and solitude. You know why? Because the moon, who chose him, won't. shut. up.
Manny is extremely talkative and it drives Jack insane. Manny chose Jack as a Harbinger and Jack initially agreed, understanding this was his purpose, for why he was "created" / resurrected, but because of his nature (sluggish, disinterested, unmotivated, and unsocial), the Moon has become impatient with Jack, demanding he be quicker and broader with his spread of misery. Jack has become so irritated at Manny's demands, that he started ignoring the voice, refusing to talk back.
He prefers to listen to the quiet wind and silence of a winter night. Its the only thing that brings his soul peace.
He's also become annoyed at the other harbingers, they're all too emotional and sucked into their own work it makes him annoyed. Even Sanderson, who is mute, tends to focus more on his nightmares; bothering that guy while he's working never ends well. So Jack avoids them when he can. Jack uses his frost to freeze his heart, preventing himself from growing attached to anyone or anything. Numb is how he feels most of the time.
When Jack is most miserable, he freezes his mouth shut and is unable to voice his pain. If he were to communicate with someone, it'd be through drawings in the snow. It's a game of charades and ironically is more stress than if Jack just talked, but there isn't much else he can do when he's at his lowest.
Kozmotis/Pitch sees Jack as a lost young man, one who doesn't seem happy at all to be doing what he's doing. Jack initially found his bright positivity annoying and confusing, so he avoided him and tried to ignore him like the moon. But Pitch recognized when Jack needed his own space and seemed to genuinely only want to help him. Despite Jack's efforts, Koz wiggled his way into Jack's life and thawed away part of his heart. So Koz is really the only person Jack actually talks to, and even then, his words are seldom muttered. He's the silent companion type. Pitch doesn't seem to mind, though.
Jack often saw Pitch with his lovely horse and became inspired. He has since created himself a snow wolf made from his magic that silently follows him. He rides it at times when he can't bring himself to walk. He doesn't speak to it, since it is part of him. He thinks a lone wolf at his side is befitting of his life. Even if it's an extension of him, he feels a little less lonely with it at his side.

The magic lore in Midnight Suns is amazing and here's why
From the previous issues, we already know that Valtorr is involved and they managed to explain how Stephen and other sorcerers were able to draw power from dark entities without being corrupted. But Midnight Suns #3 dove even deeper into the possibilities and references that Marvel’s magic lore (most often overlooked) can offer in terms of potential plots.
Tumblr media
First of all, here’s a cameo of Asti, a demon who was once loyal to Dormammu and dwells in the Dark Dimension. I’m pointing its appearance because it’s not much of a popular or known character, which is kinda important to me when writing about magic lore, especially Doctor Strange’s. Asti was last seen in New Avengers v4, when Wiccan defeated it. I feel like it was a sweet homage to classic stories and also shows that Ethan Sacks has a good amount of knowledge of this part of the Marvel universe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kushala using Asti’s bat as a ride was also a nice touch and it reminded me of the first Ghost Rider and more “summoning” animals used by other Riders, although this is a more recent reference (and I'm not completely familiar with the Riders so it could have happened before and I wasn’t aware of it).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, let’s untangle this panel here. Bear with me.
Tumblr media
*breathes in*
The Mhuruuk were the original people who ruled the Dark Dimension before Umar and Dormammu. They are born with magic and were called wizard-kings, until Olnar became friends with the exiled siblings and were deceived by them. Driven by greed, Olnar wanted to conquer more and more realms and annex them to the Dark Dimension, and that’s when he released the Mindless Ones, dying on the battlefield. Orini, Clea’s father, was too young to rule, and so Umar and Dormammu raised and twisted the story to be loved by the kingdom (and yes, Clea is half-faltine, half-mhuruuk).
The Mhuruuk then lost most of their magic and could only perform simple tricks when gathered in groups. They were exhiled until Clea returned and became the rule of Dark Dimension. However, they had a very sad fate when they were forced to fuse with the G'uranthic Guardian by Dormammu. No one could undo said spell, and thus they remained bound to the Guardian forever.
Tumblr media
So, who are these children of the Mhuruuk?  I *think* they’re the offspring of the remaining Mhuruuk who survived the rebellion against Dormammu, before they were fused with the Guardian. They weren’t supposed to ressemble vampires, but it could be a product of their corruption. Dormammu did mention he used a dark spell to mesh them. And why do they hate Clea and want war? Because the Mhuruuk fought to defend her right to rule, but were “abandoned” by her to suffer such miserable fate. Besides, they could resent her for her faltine side. She is, after all, the daughter of Umar.
This is insanely cool because it could open the possibilities to a bigger plot in a DS story. Or even a limited series about Clea and her journey to become the Sorcerer Supreme of the Dark Dimension!! The potential is all there!! I’m just so excited to see this happen!!
Next, this is not entirely about lore, but I simply loved this moment between Yana and Nico <3 Still, I can’t help but think that they’re doing a better job at portraying Zoe’s past and family than we’ll ever see in SA.
Tumblr media
AAAAND lastly!! Here he is! Sorcerer Supreme Tony Stark, the same character from All-New X-Men Annual #1 and Infamous Iron Man. And am I glad to see a reference from Infamous Iron Man? YES, I AM. I miss you, Bictor ;-;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In any case, this book is just so good when it comes to lore, references, cameos, homages and fanservice. I’m very grateful and actually super surprised with the quality and care this book brings, even though it was made to promote the game. IT’S REALLY GOOD!!

Perc'ahlia Week Day Two Fic
The funeral of Lady Vex'ahlia de Rolo was probably the biggest event Whitestone had seen in years. Officially it wasn't really bigger than the funerals held for other Chamber members and such, except they had to extend the viewing of her body to a full week, because so many people came to pay their respects. (Also to give those who managed the tombs time to figure out how they were going to inter the bear with her.) But it sort of extended itself into the days before, with people canceling other events and holding personal wakes with their friends to commemorate her or just be there for each other, and it seemed every last inhabitant of Whitestone attended at least one of the day's official events.
After she (and Trinket) were at last laid to rest beside her husband, and the final song to the Dawnfather had been sung, much of the crowd still lingered in and around the castle. Its entrance hall and much of the ground floor remained open, and they had even hung all the paintings of the lady and her family in the hall for her mourners to see.
Noone had seen her two surviving children once the services had ended; word was they'd retreated upstairs. Some scanned for the surviving members of Vox Machina; about them, there was only word that the two gnomes had gone into the city.
As well as all the people of Whitestone, the various events had also been heavily attended by ravens. Some of those who had come from outside Whitestone had shown their confusion about it, and even more at the nonchalance of the city's inhabitants. But by now, even those people had gotten used to them, and nobody was looking at them much. Nobody noticed if one of them seemed to fly a little apart from the others, or looked at everything and everyone with sharper, more knowing eyes than the other birds did.
Keyleth still didn't take the form of a raven that often, and usually only when there were multiple other birds around. She never attempted to talk to any of them, either. It was just that she'd started feeling it as a weird comfort ever since that time when Vax had been captured and tortured and had been unable to send his ravens to her.
There weren't that many places in the hall for the ravens to perch, but Whitestone's inhabitants often welcomed them on their shoulders, so long as they were wearing something thick enough. There were plenty of Pale Guard about still in their pauldrons, and Keyleth landed on one of them, a certain young human man named Flanders, and settled down as he joined another half-elf Pale Guard-Manora, she thought her name was, and another human in front of the portraits. Manora was identifying the various people depicted for her companion's benefit. When she pointed to the painting of Vax, commissioned by Vex shortly after his death, Keyleth looked away. She'd never liked that picture of him.
"And that, of course, is Vesper," she continued. "I think this painting was done when she became Guardian after Cassandra finally stepped down."
"Wonder if she's ever going to step down," said Flanders. "The way she's going she could very well die still holding the Woven Stone, and then who gets it? I assume it's not gonna be her eldest-did he even show up today?"
"He came," said Manora. "I don't know for how long, but I spotted him with the other grandkids. But I'm pretty sure it's going to be Klarus over there." She gestured over to where Danny's Tiefling grandson was speaking to a whole knot of people near the castle entrance.
"A Tiefling?" the strange man asked. "And the townspeople won't object?"
"You're behind the times, Harold," she informed him. "What trouble these people might have given Tieflings when the first of them was born into the de Rolo family was gone by the time she died, having already gone down in history for putting in all the lights we're viewing these pictures by right now, and I've heard she even oversaw the first installations of them in Emon."
"That's right," said Flanders. "My grandmother said to me once that when she was a little girl, before Lord Percival de Rolo died, he and his youngest went to every house in Whitestone to put a light in."
That was actually an exaggeration; they'd had help. In fact, Keyleth couldn't help but feel a little sad Pike's involvement was apparently being forgotten.
But Flanders was continuing, "She told some other tales about Gwendolyn de Rolo, too. Everything from how she designed Rexxentrum's skyport to how she told off the High Warden of Syngorn and completely got away with it."
"I've heard about that one, too," said Manora. "Probably one of her mother's proudest days."
"What, really?" asked a surprised Harold. "I always thought she had better manners than that."
Even in her raven form, Keyleth felt herself shake with the supressed laughter. Manora didn't try to suppress it. Flanders took it differently, though, frowning and saying, "Do you have any idea how they still treat Tieflings in Syngorn? Lord de Rolo is even on record as having said he'd always disliked going there, first for how they treated his wife, and then later for how they were treating his various Tiefling descendants. And I think the twins always refused to go there at all after Leona ended up having two Tiefling children."
"They did," said Manora, "and their parents withstood considerable pressure to make them relent on it. I believe they even hounded poor Lady de Rolo about it at her husband's funeral."
It had been even worse than that. Keyleth had stayed with Vex for a couple of weeks after Percy's death, and she vividly remembered how the two elves who had accompanied Syldor had harassed both Vex and the twins the entire time they'd been there. Syldor hadn't joined them, but he hadn't stopped them either. Finally she'd gotten them both alone and she might have made a couple of threats that had endangered the diplomatic relations between Syngorn and the Ashari, and possibly also just about everyone north of them on the continent. Honestly, Keyleth was glad these people apparently hadn't heard about any of that.
Remembering those painful days, on top of her grief over now having lost Vex as well, was almost too much for Keyleth. She found herself retreating into the raven brain, tuning out the trio of young people for a little while, even tucking her head under her wings and muffling some still sorrowful chirps.
When she finally poked her head back out, Flanders, Manora, and Harold had joined a pair of half-Orcs in front of the most famous painting of Leona and Wolfe, done shortly after they'd turned fifty. They were talking a little quickly, and she didn't try to catch much of what they went over, but it sounded like the general common accounts of their exploits. These days probably more people knew about Leona and Wolfe than knew about their parents.
One of the two half-Orcs, whom Keyleth believed might have been called Leyla, turned out to have a mother who had fought alongside the twins in her youth, and even been friends with Wolfe's second wife. She could tell her mother's tales of what Leona had said to her soldiers before they'd ridden to face the Iron Authority, of the nights they all spent trying to keep warm in the Cliffkeeps, of how they had reacted when they'd received the news of their father's death.
"Is is true," Flanders asked her, "that after they both were killed in their final battle, there was a note found, addressed to their mother and signed by both of them, that asked that she only try to bring one of them back if they other was still alive, that if they fell together, she let them go?"
"I think so," said Leyla. "Mom didn't like to talk about it, though. Everyone who served under Leona and Wolfe were devastated when they were killed. The people they led loved them so much."
Vex hadn't wanted to talk about it much either. That had probably been an even more painful time for her than Percy's death had, especially since Gwen's health had been failing, making it clear she, too, was near her natural end. Keyleth remembered two days before the funeral, finding Vex sitting in the Widow's Garden, staring at the plants she and Percy had spent decades curating, and when Keyleth had sat down beside her, she'd just fallen against her and remained silent for a while.
And then, when she'd finally spoken, she'd said, "Percy was never entirely happy with the path the two of them took, especially with Leona wielding guns the way he used to. He accepted their choices, and he understood why they made them, but it never stopped causing him grief. What would he think now, Keyleth? Would he think we failed as parents?"
Keyleth had assured her he wouldn't, of course, and she genuinely didn't think he would. But her attempts to console Vex hadn't gone very well that day. It had in fact been Danny, who had found her mother shortly after she had, who had brought a smile to her face with his extended stories about his siblings, the reminders that they had not been just warriors.
Danny, whom this little group were now standing in front of. The painting of him had been done when he'd been in his forties, and had really started committing himself to the care and tending of the Parchwood, though Keyleth believed that he drew his power from the city as much as the woodlands. There were parts of the depiction of him that reminded Keyleth all too much of his namesake, but she knew that the way he and his surroundings were drawn was also done to be reminiscent of certain artistic depictions of she herself.
It was not a surprise, either, when her own name came up in relation to his: "Keyleth the Tempest herself mentored him. Although you know, she was lovers with Lady de Rolo's brother, the one who died young and had his nephew named for him. It's creepy if you think about it."
Well, it had been weird at first. That was maybe when and why Danny had really committed to the nickname. Since then, he'd been Danny, and Vax had been Vax, and Keyleth hadn't had any trouble with that anymore.
Manora's comment hadn't bothered her; she was long past being troubled by such chatter. Flanders, on the other hand, angrily snapped, ""Don't talk about either of them that way! She taught him how to protect this city, and it's thanks to what else she taught him he's going to be around to do it even after we're all dead."
That wasn't true, of course. Keyleth knew how to protect lands from elemental rifts, but Whitestone was threatened by different phenomena, and she'd mostly just helped Danny in figuring out how to deal with those. And getting up to the level of druid where his aging was slowed he had completely done himself. She was grateful he'd done it, though. He'd already lived enough of his lifespan first he wouldn't last nearly as long as her, but any friends she could keep for longer were good, especially one from the two she had now both lost.
So she minded less when the other half-Orc (Claude? She wasn't sure), said, "I thought that was Lady de Rolo herself who taught him how to guard the land. She took all five of her children out with the Grey Hunt at least briefly, although only the twins really stuck with it."
"She might have," said Manora. "Sometimes it feels like she had a hand in all the ways Whitestone has grown and prospered and been a place of accomplishments during the past century or so. She had to have monetarily, at least, and this was a woman who never stopped visiting people who were suffering loss or hardship, at much as she could practically manage, whose advice so often made up the Chamber's mind, who presided over every event in the city, became the face of it abroad after her husband's death."
She turned as she spoke to a portrait of Vex, one done about a decade or so after Percy's death. She had really started to show her age then, but this was a painter that made the lines on her face and the greying of her hair increase her feeling of dignity and wisdom. Trinket had been painted with her in this one, and the warmth with which her hand caressed him was easy for the viewer to interpret as symbolizing her kindness to all who had been under her care.
Keyleth had now been on Flanders' shoulder long enough her wings had started to itch, and so she alighted, chirping in response when first he and then his companions called out a farewell to her. Up she went, over the heads of the crowd, meandering her way towards the castle entrance and fresher, cooler air.
As main hall fell behind her, Keyleth briefly looked back. For a moment, she could see all of them there, Vex and Percy and their children, all of them young and strong again, making the world feel like it never stood a chance against them.
Then she turned and flew out into the city they had made together, now starting to stretch in size enough to completely fill her view, and dove down to find Scanlan and Pike, wherever they had gotten to in its bustling streets.
