I wanna imagine that the cards are a real thing in-universe. Like, the brothers, royals, Solomon and Thirteen all get put into a trading card game just because they’re all very popular individuals with their own fanbases Everyone’s card art is a little different from their actuall looks bc the actual people aren’t involved in the art production, so everone gets washboard abs and clear skin. It’d also be considered defamation of any of them are portrayed with a single blemish lol.

Of course Asmo collects ONLY his own cards and MC’s cards, even if some of them look off. “This one’s hair is too brunette but I love the SHINE they put in my lipgloss!” Or something silly like that. They go into a photo album binder where he gets other pieces of fanart.

Leviathan collects SO many card and knows the rules and decimates everyone at the games, but he absolutely refuses to collect his own cards. “Can you imagine if I played my own card as if I were actually cool? Like I had those powers, or l-looked as dashing a-as they portray me?? None of my cards would actually be good?? I’m JuSt An OtAkU??” Never plays the holographics of MC. Those get framed but never displayed. (MC finds them and they do the same to him since they both avoid their own cards. In fact they do a daily dropoff where if there’s an envelope under their door they can usually expect it to be the others’ cards.) He’s also a master of making different decks, like he has a deck for every sin, every person, etc. The Royals+Angels deck and the Envy deck are his favourite ones.

Mammon thrives on the Devildom TCG market. Rare cards go for a ton of Grimm! And also you wanna know why he keeps trying to sell pics of Lucifer, right? He knows one of the official card artists. “This was the outfit this card was based on, yeah? Here’s the followup of him rolling his sleeves and loosening his tie! And I bet you’re gonna love THIS one! Nobody can ever seem to get his angry smile just right until they see it in person, but this picture comes pretty close. Doesn’t it give you shivers? I can start at 1500 grimm. Also, could you tell whoever is making THESE cards to stop whitewashing the GREAT Mammon? Plzkthx :)”

Satan’s not much for card games unless a friend challenges him to a different, more classic game, like rummy or liar. But he does keep the trading cards he likes the most. Art is art, what can he say? They’re also perfect bookmarks. His fave is probably one of MC that captures them perfectly in his vision.

Lucifer thinks the whole TCG is just silly and doesn’t really participate in any of it........... But Priddy Boy’s gotta be ✨Perfect In Everything✨. The man has canonically been stated to be good a video games for the simple need to be good at everything, you think he wouldn’t study strategy and play like it’s chess or smth? That and in his Dad Wallet where he keeps pictures of his brothers (and MC), he keeps his favourite cards of them behind each respectful photo.

Beel doesn’t really collect or know how to play, but Beel has autographed many a card after fangol games, so he can at least understand it’s a collectible item. He tried learning from Leviathan how to play this one time, and it made sense to him for the most part. Card has Life Points, Attack Points, and Special Skills. Beat up opponents' cards and win. Not too different from most other card games. But there are complicated rules to it that he forgets or mixes up. He’d much rather use the cards like dolls and make them “talk” to each other.

Belphie also doesn’t play or collect, but he does enjoy getting his hands on the holographic cards. One day Levi was sent to look for Belphie to tell him it was dinner time. He found the youngest in the attic cutting up the cards into shapes and gluing them back-to-back, hanging them up like a mobile. Levi fainted backward down the stairs and refused to look at Belphie for two months straight.

Solomon really likes these cards! Like Satan he uses them as bookmarks, but specific Sin Colours and People get paired with certain books. Green Satan cards are used on cursed tomes or books about curses, blue Satan cards are used in art history books. Pink Asmo cards are left in Seduction Spell books, while yellow Asmo cards are for books about venoms from creatures. Etc. Makes categorization much easier!

Barbatos doesn’t collect, but he does know how to play. He referees for the Young Lord sometimes whenever Diavolo gets a chance to have fun.

Y’all know ya homeboy DIAVOLO is one of the biggest collectors! He and Levi are both DAUNTING on the “battlefield”, though Dia doesn’t take things so seriously like Levi does sometimes. He’s even commissioned actual paintings of himself and everyone so that those portraits can be made into cards. They’re the rarest ones, there only being one of each person out in the world. As much as Dia would have loved to keep those cards, he likes to watch the chaos of others scrambling desperately try to obtain an Ultra Rare Royal Painted Holographic. Besides, he still has the original paintings! (Also he likes to collect the DevilWendy’s kids meal toy versions of those “cards”, which are actually those plastic “gold” plated cards inside of “”””pokéballs””””. Adorable!)

Some Thirteen cards have special abilities based on real traps of hers. Some of Thirteen’s traps are based on some of the cards. She likes to tape some cards up like stickers to some of said traps as decorations. Or as part of the trap. She once tried to entice Solomon with a card, but Levi fell for it instead and nearly got impaled in a tiger trap she called “Super Duper Rare Double Dare #106”.

Mephistopheles says he doesn’t care about such childish playthings. But once the Diavolo released those Ultra Rare Royal Painted Holographic, and ‘Phisto got highest bidder on the Diavolo card, SUDDENLY he’s become Maximillion Pegasus and his signature deck is the Diavolo deck.

Luke isn’t really one to play, but he does like the art of some of them! He’ll put some in a scrapbook! It’s also another bookmark technique, where certain people’s cards get bookmarked on their favourite recipes. He got the idea from Solomon’s method of bookmarking.

Simeon also doesn’t play but mainly collects. Got a little hooked on it before Raphael moved in and the room was being used for Levi’s spare collection stuff. He was even given many of the Common ones for free (what Simeon did with common cards, Levi didn’t nearly care as much, and trusted him more with cards than he could trust Belphie with holo’s...). He’s collected all the Seven Lords themed ones. It’s a nice, low-key hobby, like stamp collecting. He donates the ones he doesn’t need to MC or Levi.

Raphael neither plays, collects, or knows anything about them really. But he does still have an annoying familiarity with them, thanks to Michael wanting him to buy several packs, nay, BOXES of packs. Michael needs to be the number one Lucifer Card collector. Bro misses his bro... ;(

Tbh, even with the links/receipts provided, it's still very "he said, she said" - it's mostly screenshots of people talking about what other people said, rather than (ideally) specific example screenshots of racism/homophobia from discord.

dunno about blaming Malin for reblogging whitewashed fanart. I feel like that's more on the fanartist themselves, as Malin seems to reblog *every single* FH fanart on the tumblr dash. And The highly popular vampire game, that author also reblogged whitewashed art of their own characters. It happens, its dumb and people should be more aware of what they're doing but it happens. Should they have apologised and claimed responsibility for their actions? Absolutely, but they didn't.

I don't think you have to hate Fallen Hero because of this. I was just thinking last night about how it's one of the only IF games I know of that has solid disability representation, a lot of other games automatically assume ability for you, but having the puppet is actually a really great understanding of and metaphor for being disabled. And obviously how it explores PTSD.

It's a mess of a situation, It's one of the very few times I separate the art from the artist.

I suppose your first point is true, however I don't think those people are lying. I went into looking up some more posts about it on here and a couple bigger artists (mostly poc) that have abandoned the game have made similar posts about bans and vagued about the discord and game.

but I don't agree with your second point entirely. I think they should be all held accountable if they're reblogging whitewashed art. it's not hard to take 2 minutes our of your day to make a post about it. by no means do I mean to directly call out the artists as the author of the game but simply stating that whitewashed art will not be tolerated and supported by them should be enough to make your stance clear. the support malin showed by reblogging any and all art makes it seem like they simply didn't care about the issue and they didn't discourage it through the reblogs that got the artists notes. they're the author of one of the most popular if games in the comminuty and the way the entire art and discord issues were handled are just a bad relfection on the community at large.

if i were to enter the if community now, knowing that a popular author just allowed things like whitewashing and fetishization of mlm relationships to run rampant I'd think twice about engaging with authors/artists of the fandom.

and while it's true that they also gave us some of the best rep ever in an if game, I don't think that that's a reason to overlook the other serious issues.

I don't hate the game. it's crafted beautifully and I like the characters, but I won't support it in the foreseeable future. since i don't see an actual apology or the author clearing things up and correcting them, i don't think that will change but I can understand your desire to separate the art from the artist!

kaz is disabled. he uses a cane not for aesthetic but he's physically disabled so it's a necessary part of him

kaz also has some serious ptsd and triggers (hence the gloves) which you wouldn't know from just watching the show, so keep that in mind when writing

the darkling is a little bitch boy and i don't wanna see his manipulation and toxicity romanticized

matthias is baby and deserves to be treated as such

I agree that there's no much love for POC unfortunately I'm the fandom and one exemple that is striking to me is how Coën was in fanfics at first and is slowly completely disappearing since they casted Yasen Atour. He's arguably more in the books than Eskel and Lambert and canonically has a close friendship with all of them (arguably pretty shippable with Lambert too). I'm a huge Geraskier and Eskel fan so I reblog a lot of that (which probably makes me part of the problem of lack of variety in the fandom) but I hardly ever see Yen or Triss on my dash and when I do or when I go like for them, lots of gifsets or drawings are pretty whitewashed :(

I’m really glad that you brought this up. I will preface this by saying I don’t consume a lot of the “Kaer Morhen Crew” type content. However, I’ve noticed that Coën has practically been written out of the “Kaer Morhen Crew”. And like you said Coën is a part of that group. He spends his winters there, and he even helped train Ciri in sword fighting. (and gives her piggybacks around the hall!!).

And it’s not just a fandom preference of wanting to only use wolf witchers because I know Aiden is immensely popular. And we don’t even meet him! He’s just offhandedly mentioned in a line or two. and unlike Aiden, we know a bit about Coën like his history, parts of his personality, his core values, etc. So it’s not as if he’s an impossible character to work with.

I will say I empathize with the Yen and Triss struggles. I was trying to find fanart of Dara the other day and there’s practically none out there! I’m actually considering trying to draw some myself even though I would hardly consider myself an artist.

It’s like there’s this big gap in the fandom where characters of color should be and once you notice that empty space you can’t help but just...stare at it.

I’m not a POC so I don’t want to be leading any movement here but I do want to as always encourage people to boost poc creators in the fandom and also inspire folks to use characters of color in your fanworks!

how are you feeling about the grishaverse fandom right now? (general populous attitude, hot topics, fics, art, ect.)

Havent been around here for long but honestly?? It could be way worse. Typically im the kind of person that the moment i see something that bothers me (that really bothers me i mean not something i generally disagree with) i take it out of my dash, i unfollow or mute or whatever so i tend to not see things that bother me. Sure there are some hot takes i dont agree with and whatnot but that happens in any context. Its a piece of media, of art if you will, and that in and on itself is subjective. I barely see genuinely immature or straight up harmful content, barely any fetishization (which, coming from kpop and anime..... damn it feels good), at least that i see.

Something ive really taken notice of is critique. Its just so easy to critique a plot line or a character and everyone is fine with it, even if they dont agree. Everyone shares thoughts, feelings, opinions, etc on the books and its okay. Which, again, coming from a kpop fandom, its mindblowing. Youre telling me no ones going to call me racist or misogynistic, no ones gonna say im being disrespectful towards leigh, no ones gonna scream at me for establishing why i dont like matthias' death? Mindblowing. Feels really nice to not feel guilty about disliking a piece of media within the grishaverse.

I must say, ive barely read any fanfic on here, but the few that ive read, the characterisation is just chefs kiss. Not reducing a character to one (1) personality trait? unheard of. Love to see it.

What i have to say about fanart tho ahem *please stop whitewashing Jesper please please please please*. Like just???? why???? he is described as being like, quite dark. And i see a lot of him either being light skin or even if hes relatively dark with whitewashed features. Please just dont. It really says something that youre loyal to everyones descriptions but him??? cmon. On a more bright side, i love love LOVE how all of us *all of us* draw kaz the same. Like, genuinely. He literally was never described as having a scar on his eyebrow and his lip or an even slightly crooked nose. But we all just...... go with it? i think its cute. Zoya on the other hand is ALWAYS different and i also think its cute how were described someone exceptionally beautiful and all of us think of different features. Love to see it.

And as for my opinions on Alarkling. Listen. I dont ship it. Obviously the Darkling is abusive (and excessively teenage edgy for a 500 year old guy but whatever). However, theres some things about him and about his relationship with Alina that are very interesting and i get why people would ship them (out of canon) and why people would want to explore their relationship. I generally just think that its a bit more complicated than Darkling Bad. This is not to excuse people who genuinely try to excuse his actions and argue that their relationship in canon is equal to malina's and even nikolina's (which is another complicated ship for many various reasons).

Another topic of discourse that i have a bone to pick with is Nikolai's marriage to Ehri. Starting with the topic of her age, although described to be "young", Nikolai himself was also described this way back when he was supposed to be around 21. The whole " Nikolai is a creep because theres an age difference with Ehri" point is one that i find pointless mainly because we don't even know Ehri's age. I feel like people also treat this as something Nikolai wants to do and that he's interested in her instead of what it is: an imprisonment in response to a crime against the Crown. Arguably (and as logical as i find it in context) making someone marry you is..... morally dubious at best. Personally i feel like its just another royal arranged marriage. Terrible in concept, but it is something that existed (and still exists but thats not a topic for this post) and that makes sense in the plot (love me that angsty political and romantic conflict and if leigh doesnt make an ehri pov i might throw myself off a window).

And i think thats all i dont think i have many other hot opinions on this fandom. I generally feel pretty comfortable here.

COMMISSIONS TERMS OF USE AND PRICE SHEET

Whether I give you something free or you commission me, you must credit me. If it’s a promo, I want to be @’d in the post: credit to @artoriian​. Or any of my blogs. My Artoria blog is just the one I’ve slapped my credits on so it became a habit and I’m too lazy to change anything. Crediting me isn’t negotiable. Anything not a promo can credit me in your rules or a separate page or in your description, whatever. Credit must be visible and not something I’d have to hunt down to find. That’s all that matters.

I only use resources that are confirmed available to use for commercial use. I won’t profit off of something that’s only personal use. No fonts, no fanart, no textures, etc. If there isn’t explicit permission that’s allowing for something to be used for commercial use, it’s not happening.

I do dash icons, cover photos, promos, and theme backgrounds.

I don’t do themes. I only do theme backgrounds, and I don’t make them for specific themes. Most theme makers say they don’t want people commissioning backgrounds for their codes. I’ll make a background in accordance with my own ideas. If you happen to slap a free theme code over it, I have no control over that. I just won’t use the templates theme makers released for my commissions. Again, if I don’t have explicit permission to use something for commercial use, it isn’t happening.

I don’t do rp icons, or PSDs. Icons are a lot of work to make. I made 400+ icons on a whim for someone once, and it was one of the most stressful graphic making experiences of my life. I said nope, none of that ever again. I also don’t make custom PSDs for people; there’s already so many resources out there for PSDs, free and paid.

I work best given free reign. If you have a specific image in mind, I’m probably not gonna be able to deliver. My creativity can’t really work with someone else’s specific ideas.

I like reviews! Please tell me your thoughts. It also helps to spread the word about what I do.

I don’t do slots. I take on however many I wish. If I’m not taking any more, I’ll announce I’m closed.

I will not whitewash anyone. I will not racebend anyone. For example, if you want an Asian faceclaim used, I will use resources specific to the race of the character in question: I will not use a Chinese face for a Japanese character, etc. And again, I will not whitewash anyone. I’m a poc. It’s offensive af.

My graphics tend to take a day, max, to make. If I’m feeling good, you’ll see your order within ten minutes depending what it is. Backgrounds take an average of at least a couple hours.

I send WIPs to my clients at every step I take, that way you can see I’m actively working on your commission and tell me if you’re not happy with whatever progress I’m making and ask for a change. Seriously, I’ll spam you with what’s going on. I may work free reign but I still offer more than a semblance of control to you on what I’m doing. Chances are I may have multiple ideas on what it is I can do for you. And sometimes I make multiple versions of the same thing, at no extra charge. Because I’m either bored or not sure which idea is best. You can totally tell me if you have small preferences though. Such as, “This character has specific color accents and I want these colors brought out.”

I’m in the US, so prices are in US dollars. Payment goes through ko-fi or PayPal. PayPal is for bulk packages.

Starting price is $3 for anything. Gif option available but raises price due to the extra work. Background gifs have highest rate increase due to the fact Photoshop doesn’t like saving big documents for web apparently, and I have to save as a video and then convert to gif. It’s a tiring process.

I offer a bundle package for everything: dash icon, cover photo, promo, theme background. Static starts at $20, gif of everything (except dash icon which can’t be animated) is $30. There are bundle options for anything, but people tend to go for my everything package.

People tend to give me tips for my work. It isn’t mandatory at all. But it’s hella appreciated.

ah yes, I can list ones that I follow and really like!!

@meanyoongis - JP has nothing whitewashed, all her gifs have their melanin restored and sometimes she boosts their skin colour too, which is great.

@sunkissedbts and @sunnyoongi are two blogs that I follow for ot7 unwhitewashed content.

@fykimtae and @unwhitewashedjimin are two Tae-centric/Jimin-centric blogs that I follow for unwhitewashed content of those two.

I’ve been seeing heeeeaps of discussion about clone whitewashing on my dash and while I absolutely agree people need to take a lot more care I absolutely disagree with the idea that artists just need to draw them ‘more brown’.

The vast majority of ‘brown’ clone art I’ve seen is just a darker (often way too dark with completely wrong undertones) palette slapped on a random face. In addition, it’s becoming increasingly obvious nobody has ever actually seen a Maori person IRL because 9/10 times I see what’s been given the ‘accurate’ clone art badge I’m just like... no.

This image took me 0.1 seconds to find. The natural lighting rather than studio or flash gives you a much more accurate representation of tonal variations, and in particular what you would see if you were to meet someone who is Maori in real life. Take note of the dominant features.

For context, I live in Australia and have a few Maori acquaintances and colleagues, and none of them look like most of the fanart I see floating around.

i don't understand how artists cannot find the right color when they do perfectly fine with white characters and sadly when they do have the right skin color then it's the features that are all wrong, pointy noses and thin lips. of course not all of them, there are some really amazing fanarts, but i see some with plenty of reblogs that are not right and shouldn't have been posted in the first place.

I should preface this by saying that I am white, and I’ll try to be mindful of my limited experience in my response here. 

I definitely know what you are talking about. I’ve been really trying to avoid it as much as possible, but it’s surprising to me just how much whitewashed art is being put out there. It probably shouldn’t surprise me, and that in itself also exposes my naiveté in this matter. I mean there are posts with 15k+ notes on them, where t’challa looks lighter than me after summer vacation. This film is so important in so many ways, and to see the cast, which is not only majority black, but also majority dark skinned, being drawn with very eurocentric features and lightened skin tone is incredibly disheartening and fucking frustrating. I don’t want to go off on it too much because it’s really not my place, but I will say I’m more than a bit upset about it. Like you said, it’s not hard to figure out what skin tone to use (hell use a colour dropper tool if you can’t find the right base tone to start with), and blaming “stylistic differences” or something like that is frankly bs. 

I can’t imagine what it must be like to be a black fan eagerly looking forward to more art and fics centred around black characters, only to have them whitewashed or sidelined in stories (the writing issue is separate from your ask, but still stems from the same problems). We need to be more wary of not only what we are creating, but what we are supporting/reblogging. I think I personally need to make more of a conscious effort to seek out better art instead of just waiting for it to come across my dash and stop just ignoring the whitewashed crap that does.
