feeling emotional as fuck tonight so I guess this is what you get

Shinichiro is soft.

Soft like the dew on the grass in the morning. Soft like the sounds of the birds chirping before sunrise. Soft like the feeling of a cool, freshly flipped-over pillow. Soft like the satin of his skin. Shinichiro is soft.

Shinichiro is kind.

Kind like the morning light that graces your face. Kind like the children riding their bikes outside with smiles and peals of laughter. Kind like the sound of the thin plastic bags for vegetables and fruit. Shinichiro is kind.

But Shinichiro...

You glance over at his tear-streaked face in midday, hands holding his frame as he weeps. Sobbing deeply in his sleep. The feeling of his own body taking on pain of generations and sorrow and so many memories... You know the ones.

The terror-filled ones he rockets himself out of in the middle of the night with a shout, the ones that leave him staring in the mirror with doubt, the dreams that make him gaze out of the window with an empty look of disgust...

You used to dry his tears with your thumbs, kiss his forehead quickly, and tell him it was alright. No monsters were hiding in the night. Not for him. Not while you had a say in the matter.

But they haunt the corners of Shinichiro's mind, taking over his brain by dinner time, and his fork hovers over the food so carefully prepared and shared.

"I love you," you whispered to him in the darkness.

"I know," he'd said without emotion. You want to inquire if he loves you back, but you know he'd turn on the face he's so carefully curated and say "yes" without a second to spare.

You wonder how you can tell him you care.

The only solution to your problem seems to be the very solution to his problem which is the solution to yours which is the solution to his dysfunctional head - kill two birds with one stone or feed two birds with one loaf of bread?

The only way to solve it, you know, is to crawl in bed and wrap your arms around him, hold him like a child - the child he never got to be. The eldest son of a broken family.

"I'm not going anywhere," you breathe. And for once, you feel his body relax, tense up, shoulders shaking, sobs breaking, hands gripping yours and holding you tight.

"Don't let go of me." Shin's voice cracks, and your heart shatters.

"Not tonight," you reply. "Not ever."

And to him, that's the only thing that matters.

okay, now I have a really important question

do you have any film adaptations of Homer's Iliad and/or Odyssey that you really enjoyed watching?

I mean, I got really curious and I've already watched 4 of them (3 about the Trojan War and 1 about the Odyssey, but there are actually quite a lot of them) so this is

Odyssey (1973)

and Troy (2004)

these two are kind of legendary to me cause I watched them a long time ago and now i've only reviewed them (i think they're pretty good btw i really like them)

but the series Troy: Fall of a City (2018)

kinda disappointed me(( i mean it's still not bad and there are plenty of good moments but as for me that was.. a little boring?? idk but compared to others i liked it less (just my opinion)

Oh and also there's Helen of Troy (2003)

also pretty good. i mean i really like it but i have so much questions, especially to Achilles there, like wtf dude what happened to you (and there is also no Patroclus... at least i hope that he's alive)

sooo they all retell the story with a lot of details changed, and that's okay, BUT now i just can't stop thinking about some series that would be more about the Greeks (or at least equally), and where we could see a little more events from their side and more of their interactions, see gods, their interactions and how they were helping their favs, see how cool is Diomedes, see Menelaus but as a good guy, Elena's drama, not only related to Paris but about the desire to return to her husband and daughter, but at the same time the desire to stay in Troy with Paris (Aphrodite helps with this), more Homer's "canon" events and events after the Iliad, such as the battle with the Amazons, the death of Achilles and the death of Ajax, Philoctetes and the bow of Hercules, Neoptolemus and finally the Trojan horse…

and then there might be something like s2 with the events of the Odyssey and the stories of other kings about returning home and what happened to them while Odysseus was trying to return home.

i mean... just imagine it.

and yeah

i was hearing "Battle of the bands" from dazzlings (mlp) and man,why it fits so fucking well with kusuke & kusuo???

i mean,Just see the lyrics.

little rant about frustrations with my writing below

so frustrating that i can write 2k words in a few hours (following a couple of days where i was lucky to hit 200) and my brain still tells me it’s not good enough.

i used to draft full chapters in a single sitting, and averaged around 20k a week, which is an absolutely unrealistic and unsustainable standard, but i can’t figure out how to shake the feeling that anything less is failure.

this ridiculous standard only applies to me. i’d never feel like this about a friend, and would actively argue against it for them, so why the fuck am i like this to myself.

I chose Victorian England as my time period and worked with an illustration from “Punch, or the London Charivari”, Volume LXVIII (68), published in London in 1875. I thought that the original image had some queer undertones just waiting to be dialed up. Click on the link to see the similarities and differences of the source and completed piece.

A theory regarding ATSV’s little injection scene and Miguel

Based off memories of a book I exclusively read while in a delirious state and while I am working off a no sleep of 24 hours because I am so so healthy

If my shitty memory serves Miguel O’Hara’s backstory is that his boss drugs him with something called “rapture” that is highly addictive and its withdrawal symptoms lethal to force him to stay at Alchemax

This leads him to try and remove the addiction with a The Fly type device only for it to be sabotaged in cyperpunk cutthroat business style climbing the ladder shenanigans by an office rival resulting in him becoming a Spider-Man

Anyway later it is revealed that he wasn’t actually drugged with Rapture it was designed to just simulate the effects to give him a scare

So all of that was for nothing

The injection scene in ATSV serves as a quick visual explanation to the casual audience that he is a bio-engineered spidey as opposed to the classic bit by a Spider Spidey

I’m guessing it is also supposed to like reinforce that he has been forced into a horrible situation and that his canon-event theory is ultimately based on an incomplete view of everything but one made because he was too short on time to risk being wrong

Like him injecting the rapture while looking at an image of what he believes to have been him destroying a universe feels too like intentional y’know

I've been in a bit of a funk since like November, which of course was conveniently when I stopped therapy. I've been fine, just chugging along. A lot of what I learned in therapy really has helped I think.

Still, I can't really shake the melancholic headspace I've been in. I'll just keep focusing on chugging along. Hopefully I haven't let it affect things too too much.
