TWITL - week forty-two - here comes the rain

We’re in the middle of a few rainy days and I don’t mind at all. Looks to be over by Monday morning so must enjoy it now. We certainly need the rain out this way. I’m just glad we didn’t have much to do but sit here and watch football.

MOVIES

Dune – We headed to the movies on Friday night to watch Dune in the Dolby Cinema auditorium at our local AMC Theatre. If you can watch this movie at the theatre, do it. It’s GORGEOUS. I’ve read the books and I’ve seen the 1984 movie so I knew the story well enough and this interpretation is just so well done. It ended and I wanted MORE. (Please tell me there is more!)

Cronos – I had never seen this movie and not sure why we started watching this one. The hubby happened upon it while browsing for movies and saw that it was Guillermo Del Toro’s first feature film. I like that I knew nothing about it yet and could enjoy it as is. I liked it. It was very well done, with the drama and horror very well balanced.

DOWNTOWN

We spent Saturday afternoon downtown for cornhole! Well, I didn’t play. I just watched. It was great seeing people downtown and cornhole is always fun times. The weather was perfect but as there was rain in the forecast, they hurried the play a bit. The rain probably came a bit before the event was set to end but we were already home, I think.

Oh, and I wore my All Blacks gear (beanie and jersey) because they were playing the Eagles in Washington DC. The All Blacks ended up winning 104-14. Yikes! But hey, it felt good wearing my All Blacks stuff. The jersey I wore is tight so it’s something to wear under hoodies and such.

RANDOM MUSINGS

Full week back to work after fall break wasn’t really too bad for me. Our COVID-19 testing days changed for the district office, which means I go in early on Mondays and Friday now. I actually don’t mind that bit at all. It’s nice leaving early on a Friday, even better this first week because I had a meeting in the afternoon and when I came back to the office, it was nearly time to go home. Joy!

Now let me rant a little bit.

Our COVID-19 tester is a super sweet woman, newly hired (so yes, she’s an actual employee) and the harassment and abuse she took from fellow employees is damn appalling. I am so disappointed and angry about the stories she told me after administering tests at our school sites this week. Employees in our district must be vaccinated or submit to weekly testing. To make it easy for those employees who must test every week, our tester is stationed at each school a certain day every week. Apparently, some of those unvaccinated employees decided it was their place to voice their frustrations to her, accusing her of being a spy, asking her how she slept at night, refusing to sign the forms or wear their masks, and just being plain unpleasant to her. It was unprofessional, rude, and just plain WRONG. I wonder, if this is how they treat a fellow employee, how do they treat the students or their fellow site employees? They should be ashamed of themselves. I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t care why people won’t get vaccinated. You do you. But if your employer requires you to be tested if you’re not vaccinated, you do NOT have the right to treat the tester with anything other than polite professionalism and respect.

Ephraim: Congratulations! I know these fights against Lord Ike, Lord Hardin and myself must have been tough. But you did it! You beat all three of us!

Lyon: *smiles weakly* I guess I did.

Elise: Congrats Prince Lyon! Those really were some intense fights!

Lyon: Thank you, Princess Elise…

[Ephraim strokes Lyon’s face.]

Ephraim: I’m so proud of you. You really deserve this victory. And you definitely deserve some rest too!

[Lyon smiles.]

Ephraim: Eirika wishes to congratulate you, as well. And judging by the amount of people around this tent, I bet many others do as well.

[Lyon frowns.]

Ephraim: Hah! Don’t worry. They can wait.

Elise: Hmpf. They HAVE to wait ‘cause I ain’t letting you go like that, you hear me?!

Lyon: *laughs weakly* Understood.

Ephraim: Thank you, Princess Elise. I’m leaving him to you then. Take good care of him for me!

Elise: Hihi, just leave it to me!

Ephraim: Alright. I’m going to get this crowd away from the tent now. See you later!

Elise: See ya!

[Lyon waves a hand.]

Lyon: Gods, there he is. Ephraim!

Ephraim: …

[Lyon goes nearer.] 

Lyon: Ephraim?

Ephraim: GAH! Lyon?!

Lyon: Ah, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.

Ephraim: It’s…it’s alright.

Lyon: I’ve been looking everywhere for you, but the library was the last place I expected you to be.

Ephraim: You were looking for me?

Lyon: Yes, I wanted to thank you for supporting me through the whole gauntlet and *embarrassed*…for bringing me to a healer when I passed out…

Ephraim: No need to thank me. I’m glad I could support you, Lyon.

[Lyon smiles, then curious.]

Lyon: Uhm…may I ask what you were doing here? Eirika is not here… and something tells me you aren’t here for the books.

Ephraim: Oh…ah…haha, you know, I was kind of…looking for you as well.

Lyon: Oh?

Ephraim: Haha yeah, but first let’s go outside. I need to get away from this musty old library.

[Lyon nods and they exit the library, entering the castle’s huge garden.]

Ephraim: Lyon. In the Magvel where I am from…we defeated the Demon King. But you…we couldn’t save you.

Lyon: …Yes, I…I thought so…

Ephraim: But even after the war I never stopped wishing to be with you again. So when I saw you here in Askr – alive again – I couldn’t believe my eyes.

Lyon: Ephraim… I’m- I’m so sorry to have caused you so much pain…

Ephraim: Lyon…

[Ephraim is about to comfort him but Lyon steps back.]

Lyon: Why would you want… even wish to have - of all people in the world - someone as awful as me back in your life? Why?

[Lyon’s eyes are starting to fill with tears.]

Lyon: Why? Tell me, Ephraim.

[Ephraim embraces him.]

Ephraim: Lyon, listen to me. You are my friend. You always have and you always will – nothing can change that. Nothing.

[Lyon tightens the hug, now crying.]

Ephraim: I have experienced what life without you feels like and I never want to live it again.

[They stay like this for a while. Eventually Lyon slowly pulls back wiping away his tears.]

Lyon: Thank you,… Ephraim…so much… for everything.

[Ephraim watches him until Lyon has settled down again.]

Ephraim: You know… seeing you again has made me realise something else.

Lyon: Has made you realise what, exactly?

Ephraim: *smiles* It’s the reason why I was looking for you in the first place.

[Ephraim goes on one knee and slowly takes a small box out of his robe, presenting it to Lyon.]

Lyon: W-what?!

Ephraim: Lyon. I love you. I want to be by your side – always – if you will have me.

Lyon: E-Ephraim! A-are you-?!

Ephraim: Yes, I am. Lyon, will you marry me?

[Ephraim opens the box.]

Lyon: Ephraim! You cannot be serious! You know that’s insane!

Ephraim: Maybe. But I can’t imagine a life without you anymore.

Lyon: Ephraim…

Lyon: …Ever since I got here I thought I was unworthy to live. I swore to myself to never let my own selfish desires take control over me ever again – to never give in to them again. But… this gauntlet made me realise that…maybe…maybe even someone like me could get a second chance…

Ephraim: Lyon…

Lyon: Ephraim. I want to be honest with you. I’m not entirely free from Him in this world and I can’t promise that I am able to control Him this time but… I promise you to always be there for you and make you happy – if you will still have me that is…Will you allow me to be so selfish once more?

Ephraim: *smiles* You make me so happy already. I swear to protect you from any harm that might come over you. I want to always see you smile like you used to back then.

Lyon: *smiles* Then I gladly accept. Thank you. I love you, Ephraim.

Ephraim: I love you too, Lyon.

Character in general: Bro, Tony Stark is amazing, I love him. He’s so good and tries so hard. Like, he’s only human, just a man in a can, but he does what he can to make the world better and I think that’s great.How they play them: Wonderfully!
