Schadenfreude is such a fucked up abnormality in terms of appearance. There are FAR worse, yes, but all those disgusting, organ-filled, corpse-laden abnormalities are sanitized into less disgusting little guys by the cognition filter (and the limitations of the art style) and then Schadenfreude's out here being the most special boy and doing the polar opposite as the most photo-realistic thing you'll see in this whole series
Tumblr media
look at that. real human eye. real lenses. real flesh. what the hell
Manager X, probably: Hey uh why does Schadenfreude look like that
One of the Sephirot: Oh yeah you're not supposed look at that one

The Devil Judge - The Finale
A dystopian law drama w/a good concept that ended up underwhelming due to terrible writing. The star studded cast made up that fault with the likes of Ji Sung and Park Jinyoung.
Min and Jung has a previous conversation about the live show court trial. They team up so that they could stop this madness with the Supreme Court and with the SRF Foundation. Jung request that Min should keep an eye on someone and that someone is Ga-On. He requested Ga-On during their early meetings to be the Judas for Yo-Han. Min hated Yo-Han for ruining the country so he wanted to attack him by revealing his family affairs. He wants to drag Yo-Han down. He affirmed it when he was at the hospital and Jung visited. But Min didnt know how crazy Jung was and killed Soohyun. He said that Soohyun is like a daughter to him. Min said didnt he want to stop Yohan at all cost, that includes Soohyun too. Jung said that there's no going back now and they're close to ending the chaos, and questions if he wants to be remembered.
Min needed to become a monster to stop Yohan. Gaon then calls him a dirty hypocript and Min calls the security. Gaon is in pain that he just let Soohyun die just like that. Gaon was taken away by the security. Gaon tells Jinjoo that the foundation has set this all up and she wants to help.
The SRF team congratulates Jung for having Min to their side and Heo is in silence waiting for her instructions. He's literally her dog. They then talk about Yohan's mental mind now that he's in prison, he's out of his game. If he disappears quietly, they assume that everyone would be happy. Jung thinks otherwise, if he continues to say things she threatens him to step down. The SRF team continues to praise Jung. Jung discussses with her righthand woman on how Heo changed his personality completely and finds it fishy. She probably underestimated him and there's something else. She then request to check the status of the moving of the residence to the Dream Village.
Chief Ward meets Yohan to have discussiona t the office. Yohan disrespects the Chief  but the Chief warns him that this is not a live court show and that he's in prison.
Lawyer Ko talks to Gaon and how much of an idiot he is. He doesnt know if he can continue to trust Gaon with what he's done. Gaon is asking for help. Gaon wants to go expose the Dream Village and plans to go alone. Lawyer Ko warns him that there's tone of security but he can go to the Medical Center, but no way he can exit out. Gaon says just let him in. Also warns him that the media is on their eggshells and it's not anymore a free media. Gaon though has come up for something and request to get him 1 thing.
Gaon explains to Elijah in a letter that she didnt do anything wrong and promises that Yohan will return and that it wouldnt take long. He tells her to eat well to not get sick so that Yohan wouldnt worry. She then cries and eats her food to recover.
At the prison, Yohan and Juk breaks out a fight at the courtyard.
Gaon then enters through the Dream village by using the food truck inside a box. He then observes the restricted area and records using a small video device. He sees alot of people lying down sick surrounded by nurses and guards. He goes through the wards and surprisingly sees Ms. Han, the woman who sided with Yohan during the live courtshow. All of a sudden the President arrives at the facility. Theyre testing a new vaccine and the number of people that survived is 182. President requests about the behind payments of all the countries. Clinical trials are in high demand. President tells them when a person dies through the trials they collect all the well organs and export them as byproducts. Nothing goes to waste. Gaon silently watches them laugh maniaclly in disgust. The SRF and Heo talks about Jung behind her back, they plan to outs her. Gaon plans to escape with Han but was got caught with a nurse but saves himself that he's checking her vitals. The nurse recognizes him and actually helps him. She has been waiting for some help and said that their phones have been taken away. Also said that there's some sane people in the center too. She promises to help.
Breaking news that Yohan has been arrested for instigating murder is dead. He was stabbed by a assailant. Both co-judges are left in shock. Same goes to Jung. She's in shock but calms herself that it was done because of her. Jung will be President and Min would now be Chief Justice. He did a press conference instead of a inauguration. Oh was able to catch up with Min and tells him that Jung wants to meet him at her office, this is a set up. Gaon tells her to leave the building and requests her to go. SRF team celebrates at the live court set with Jung at the top of the judges seats. Gaon then captures Min and ties him up at the office with a bomb around his body. Since when did Gaon become so violent. Its a plant and the media will receive news about exposing the Dream Village with his name on it. Yohan suddenly appears and saves Gaon on time. The death news was fake and that Yohan had to dig out to save him. He reminded me of Batman at some point here. Yohan was able to get out by threatening the Chief with his corruption and crimes for the last 30 years. Mentions the Chief that the money is not with him anymore. Yohan tells him to save himself is by doing his specialty for swapping prisoners. Just give him 24 hours. Lawyer Ko enters and tells him that he couldnt tell Gaon everything. Yohan tells him that he was able to return the Chief a favor but not in the form of cash but through charity.
While the SRF is celebrating the lights and the screen suddenly went on with Yohan on the screen. Jung realizes that he is alive and so does the rest of the team. Its revealed as a solemn trial. Yohan starts a live trial and its the final trial with the entire SRF team being exposed with the Dream Home Medical Center. Looks like Jung doesnt know anything about it and asks the team about it. Even the conversation Heo had with the team regarding the citizens. They also show that Jung has killed innocent people in the way to fulfill her ambitions and to attack him. Min is attacked too as a betrayer.  Min is let go by Gaon but tells him that his name is tarnished forever and he will live awfully for the rest of his life. That's a better punishment and more realistically given too.
There was a proper punishment given and Yohan announced that there's a bomb then leaves to go to the trial set. Yohan reveals that Gaon was the one who helped exposed and will testify to tell the whole truth. The bomb is planned and Yohan will sacrifice himself along with the foundation. Yohan asks them if the moment reminds them of the fire incident. All of them trying to escape. Only the fastest person survives. Jung calmly comes up from her seat with a gun on her hand. Heo complains that he is the President and Jung shots him due to annoyance. She also tries and aims the gun at Yohan. Yohan tells her that its the both of them till the end. Tells her to come with him till death. That's the only way she'll be with him, which is quite tragic. Jung says her final goodbye to Yohan and shockingly shots herself to death, like how Ms. Cha did. Gaon then appears at the end, tells Yohan to stop and think of Elijah. Gaon in the end will be the hero and Yohan pushes him out. Will Yohan survive the bomb explosion? He needs to be alive or Gaon will end up with nothing. Well he still has Judge Oh and Elijah at least. Gaon wents back to the mansion and ses the blueprint of the bomb explosion, there has to be a escape route for Yohan. Yohan tells him that Gaon must do something for him. Housekeeper tells Gaon that Yohan stopped by and tells her she's fired and asks for Elijah. Yohan tells Elijah that they're going to move out to somewhere safe and its a rehabilitation center in Switzerland. Gaon then finds out that Yohan is actually alive.
Gaon was set in a trial with the comittee. Gaon inwardly thinks that nothing has changed at all and is confused on what to do now that the country doesn't need Yohan. Yohan secretly bids goodbye to Gaon and he then quickly realizes it. Captures him on time from afar. The 2 men bid each other goodbye which then ends the drama.
Thoughts: If you like stories like Batman or The Hunger Games this would be the drama for you. The writer seem to took inspiration from both works. I think Yohan is like Batman/Katniss while Gaon is like Peeta. Oddly reminds me of the finale alot with the similarities of the characters. Or sometimes Gaon acts like Katniss/Peeta both. Just remove the whole romance aspect of The Hunger Games. There's quite a few angst moments of Yohan and Gaon. Gaon all of a sudden cares for Yohan. The writer tries to include those similiarities with the 2 characters. Yohan wants nothing more than revenge. Then the rest of the SRF are like the trial players or could be the government too. They try to copy the brutality of the hunger games the games itself with the fire incident and the finale of the drama. All trying to save themselves from death.
Messed up the ending. What I wanted most from this drama was for people to rise up to protect their country, because its the job of people to protect their country not the job of one or two people like Yohan and Ga On. Also they didn't even show the aftermath of the last trial. What happened to that dream house project and what was the people's reaction about the live trial? Assuming the whole time it was filmed. What did they think of Yohan after that? Alot of afterthought was left out.
Rating: Story: 3 (Great until episode 12 onwards) Production: 2 (Locations and the offices were ok but not meant for the dystopian feel they were trying to sell. Could've been more modern looking set) OST: 1 (BGM is spot on and fills the scenes well, dont like the rock portion of the OST) Acting: 4 (Mainly because of Ji Sung) Character Development: .5 (Main cast are 1 sided and no room or little improvement) Overall Enjoyment: 1 (The drama's tone is consistent throughout despite the bad writing) Total Rating: 2.5/6

Flesh And Bones – Part 9
Soulmate AU
Series Masterlist
A/N: oof this took a while! second to last :( gonna miss cracking my head with this fic lol never again shall I just wing it without a clear idea of how to end a story.
*Important: Hydra base scene but I won’t depict a tortured Bucky, he doesn’t always have to suffer at the expense of his ex-captors and I’m honestly getting tired of the obscene amount of torture fics out there!! Consider this an anti-trigger warning but also a threat? Idk enjoy
Tumblr media
The anguish never went away.
Two days later, Bucky found himself knocking on Sam’s door, his heart on his hand.
There was no answer behind the thick walls, but Bucky knew he was there. Somehow, he felt it deep in his bones.
"You okay?" he asked.
The sound was muffled inside Sam’s room, both from the structure separating them and the external sounds that made their way in through the open window. There, Sam rested both hands on the lower frame as he stared outside, more focused on the wind and noise that drowned down his thoughts than the actual view. Bucky’s interruption made him realize he didn’t know for how long he’d stayed in that frozen position.
He slid down the window until it hit its frame, "Yeah, why?” he lied nonchalantly.
His mind was racing. As time passed and brought the team closer to the Hydra raid, Sam worried for Bucky. Not that he wasn’t prepared or that he was being reckless, because he knew that wasn’t the case. What had him worrying was the idea of Hydra potentially targeting Bucky. Although Natasha had assured him a million times that there was absolutely no chances that this was a trap, Sam’s mind couldn’t help but wander around horrible ‘what if’s, ones that compromised his soulmate because Hydra’s finest assassin had escaped them, so they were likely to want revenge on the man. Maybe even try to get him back under their grasp. And if Sam was deprived from the option of saving him, he wouldn’t know how to live anymore.
Bucky’s answer, however, got his head out of the dark cloud.
"I don't know. I feel weird." Barnes mumbled from across the door, loud enough to be heard though.
The last three words alone were enough to bring Sam towards the closed door. Bucky felt him. He felt weird, and wondered if Sam was alright, and he went to check up on him. As soon as he faced the mildly pouty lip, the big brown eyes, the badly concealed worried frown, he wished for nothing else than to kiss that pout away.
Which he did very aggressively. Sam brought his body against Bucky’s, he cupped the brunette’s face by his raspy cheeks and crashed their lips together. He didn’t wait for Bucky’s tongue to dance with his, he made it. When they stopped to regain their breaths, and the make out was over, Bucky looked confused, but in the best way possible.
He caught his breath with an amused look, "Okay."
Sam wanted to laugh with him, address his flourishing emotions, but his worry was far greater. So he showed the man inside and gestures to follow him. They both sat at the end of Sam’s bed.
“Yeah, there’s something wrong.” Sam admitted.
Barnes’ tone became sterner and more precautious, “What?”
Wilson held his hand before speaking.
"Tony said there's no rules or anything.” He reminded the latter of their informative chat with Stark, “But he did make it seem like there was some sort of... I don't know, some sort of progression.”
"What do you mean?"
Sam inclined his head like he was pushing himself to say the next thing out loud, "You've been really nervous lately."
Bucky didn’t flinch, yet he wasn’t comfortable either. The idea of Sam knowing that, finding out that he wasn’t as relaxed about the raid as he wished to play it out, was a quick disappointment.
"Guess you could say that." He looked away.
"I know that.” Sam emphasized the word while at the same time lowering his volume to attain a more intimate tone, “I don't think I should be able to."
Bucky simply shrugged.
"Why can I tell when you're anxious?” He had to insist on his concern. “How come you do too? It doesn't make any sense. Unless..."
"Hey.” The soldier stopped him, already knowing what scenario Sam was forming inside his head, “There's no step back here.”
Given Bucky’s certainty was convincing, and he was becoming aware of the fact that he was overthinking, Sam still couldn’t shake off the sour feeling of approaching danger.
“You’re supposed to be the sane one here, Sammy.” Bucky laughed, which brought a warm feeling deep in Sam’s chest because of the employed nickname, “We're okay. It doesn't have to mean anything, remember?"
That was enough for Sam’s heart rate to drop considerably. Bucky managed to calm him like that.
"Thank you.” Sam said genuinely.
Nevertheless, Bucky could read him. Hell, he could feel his dark feelings not shifting away. So he went into the gray zone he didn’t think he would be approaching anytime soon.
“Is it because of Riley?” he dared to bring up the subject.
Sam was more than taken aback, but he blinked to dissimulate. They had only ever talked about Riley once before, in another heart-to-heart, and it had brought tears to Sam’s eyes. Bucky knew everything, their friendship that was always something more, the love declarations left unsaid, the part where they saved each other’s asses in Afghanistan. Riley was the reason why Sam trusted the universe to be kind, even without a soulmate. He was the reason Sam told everyone you can love without a bond, because that memory was all that was left of the dead man.
“What do you mean?” he let the words out minimally.
“Are you afraid to lose me like you lost him?”
Sam shook his head, rejecting the mere thought of comparing the two men, almost desperately. There were open wounds that he hadn’t had the courage to heal yet. He cleared his throat and tried to shrug it off.
“He, uhm… He didn’t have that crazy serum of yours.” Sam faked an absent mind, although he failed, “You’re not the same.”
Bucky could see right through him.
“Exactly, I’m not Riley.” He grabbed Sam’s chin endearingly. “I heal fast, and you’ll feel me the entire time, and I get that you’re scared, but so am I. It’s why we got each other, right?”
Sam’s vision became less blurry when his soaked eyes dropped a single tear each. They rolled down his cheeks and were wiped away by Bucky’s thumb.
“I promise you won’t lose me.” He ensured his soulmate, who allowed himself to be held and rocked until he felt like talking again.
-
“Everyone on comms?” Steve’s voice barged into everyone’s earpieces.
As soon as the five other voices replied, Rogers gave them the orders required to execute the raid perfectly.
The first two floors would be empty, according to their lead, for they mainly consisted of dirty  storage units meant to distract anyone from even getting close to finding the real base. So, those floors were their entrance and their escape, if ever needed. Hopefully, they would imprison everyone, realistically speaking, a few would be taken out in the process, perhaps killed. Whatever may come out of the raid, Steve Rogers had a whole alphabet of backup plans.
First off, they had to disperse. Steve and Rhodey walked upstairs as silently as possible, reaching the third floor in minutes. Meanwhile, Bucky and Natasha moved forward and explored the premises with their guards up. Romanoff’s excuse to pair with him was that they both had experience with these kind of organizations, although they everyone was rather aware of the fact that she was keeping an eye on the man Sam was worried about. Bucky ignored the reason behind it, and made no comment as the pair was left behind by Sam and Wanda, who walked upstairs.
When the first line of Avengers broke down the door in one swift blow, shield and blasters up with anticipation, they found the entire floor empty. After a confused glance between Rhodes and Rogers, they lurked around every single corner and behind every single door. Nothing.
“This wing is clear.” Rhodey said through his earpiece.
Although it didn’t seem to upset the rest of the team half as much, Sam was experiencing his fair share of anxiety. He looked up to the ceiling, as if he could burn a whole straight through and peak at the floor in question.
“Where are they?” He whispered to himself.
A minute later, Steve sent another command, “I need guns on the front line.”
Barnes rolled his eyes in mocking of his best friend.
“Nobody talks like that, Stevie.” He taunted him.
Yet Steve didn’t appreciate the joke, for he was far too tense. His eyes moved around frantically, looking for a possible trap, which his paranoia was leading to.
“Guns first.” He repeated himself clearly, “Something feels off.”
But nobody got there. Before Bucky or Natasha could even reach the stairs, a set of loud noises surrounded them. In every floor, metal doors fell from the ceiling, blocking exits and doors. These doors weren’t too intense, but their tech hadn’t picked up on them, which meant they were expected. Every Avenger found themselves trapped in their respective zones. As for Barnes and Romanoff, they were too apart from each other to even see the other’s face.
So, deep in his fear, Bucky raised his gun and checked every wall his sight could reach, almost waiting to be attacked. If Natasha was completely honest, she would have bet Bucky was a target, as well. That is what everyone’s minds went to, especially Sam’s. Luckily, he had the company of Wanda right next to him to feel calmer.
"Everyone okay?" Rhodes checked.
Sam and Wanda replied with their status and whereabouts, but after a lack of response from the other two, the man confirmed their status on his wrist screen, only to see that Barnes and Romanoff were off-line. He figured they must’ve been trapped downstairs.
"We gotta move fast.” Steve ordered, keeping his Captain-like calm, “Try to get to the control panels, if not, evacuate. They know we're here."
Wanda and Sam. Walking slowly. Careful. Not many places to hide, but there must be a way out.
“He’s okay.” Wanda let Sam know.
They walked side by side, as slowly as possible. There weren’t many places to hide nor another entrance that they knew of, on the second floor, yet they remained precautious.
“What?” Sam let out without paying much attention.
“I’m saying, he can take care of himself.”
Once Sam understood that Wanda was playing the best friend card in letting him know she knew Bucky to be strong, he realized he probably looked too worried.
He fought back his frown. “I know that. I’m just…”
“Anxious?”
“We’re trapped in an underground intelligence base,” He sighed loudly, “shouldn’t I be?”
The statement earned an acknowledging nod from Wanda, who waited a few more seconds to press his earpiece and reach the Captain.
“Steve? You think it’s okay if I tear down a wall?” She asked for permission to jump into action.
“No.” Steve denied her dryly, “Bucky and Nat are on their own, we won’t engage until they’re safe.”
The young woman shut her eyes with annoyance, “Okay, Steve? You’re not helping Sam stay calm.”
She received no further comments. Everyone felt too powerless after all. No comments.
Down in the bottom storage, the place began to look more like a maze. It was a mess of similar, dusty hallways and old, closed doors. Natasha tried each and every single one of them, but they were useless, and she figured they wouldn’t get her anywhere, anyway. It might as well have been an underground cellblock.
“Barnes, give me a sign.” She asked for a second time.
Bucky indulged her, complying with her attempts at finding each other. Together meant safer.
He thought hard about his whereabouts, “East wing’s on my… left side.”
“I can’t get through to anyone else.” Romanoff finally said what seemed obvious to both of them.
The soldier couldn’t help but take a deep, calming breath, for it was a much needed one. He gripped his gun harder, trying to ease himself.
“Me neither.” His mouth spoke in disconnection with his brain, which was submerged in paranoia by now.
Natasha could sense that.
“We’re okay.” She did her best at calming him realistically, as she looked around for a way to find him, “You said east wing? I think I got you, Barnes.”
Suddenly, a gunshot was clearly heard, making Natasha turn around in a haze, only to find herself alone, and realize that the shot came from afar.
“Crap.” Bucky groaned, his communicator still on.
After the sound of three other guns and what appeared to be Bucky’s rapid machinegun, the woman panicked.
“Talk to me.” She ordered him.
"I got hostiles!" Barnes screamed over the noise of his own weapon.
As soon as Natasha realized she could hear where the attack came from, she followed the echo, running. Eventually, the sound drowned out.
“Bucky?” she asked, fear crippling through her.
There was no reply but the sound of Bucky panting. She managed to find a grilled gate, which she shot and kicked open easily, all the while her mind raced to the worst case scenario. Sam had trusted her with his soulmate’s life.
Finally, she hit the scene: two dead bodies on the floor, both hostiles. The soulmate’s life was still intact.
“Good, you’re alive.” She breathed out, pretending she wasn’t just losing her mind mere seconds ago.
Nevertheless, she quickly noticed that Bucky’s panting was linked to whatever made him hold his ribs so painfully. Then, Bucky removed his flesh hand from that zone in order to look at it, revealing to both of them that the hand was covered in blood. As terrified as Natasha was, her expression couldn’t match Bucky’s.
"You’re shot." She stated with wide eyes.
Bucky swallowed hard, "We have to find Sam." He said roughly.
As Romanoff processed Bucky’s fear, the latter looked around for an out in desperation. He was worried that Sam was hurt. Sam, who couldn’t bleed out from a soul bond wound, while Bucky had his fingers pressed against a pool of red.
"He'll live.” Natasha approached him carefully, “You, on the other hand..."
Barnes shook his head. "Sam first."
-
Wanda was known to save the day without too much effort. Turns out, the Hydra base was covered in desperate traps because they were too vulnerable to withstand a raid. Therefore, the witch tore down the metal walls and flew up to help Rhodey and Steve, who didn’t need too much aid as it was. Sam stayed down, fully aware that the other three were probably kicking ass, and still worrying. He ran downstairs as soon as the blockade was taken care of, in need of finding Bucky safe and sound, even if he knew that he was.
And he knew he was okay, because Sam himself hadn’t felt a single sting. Not a gunshot, not a bruise, not even a scratch.
So, if Sam felt untouched, then Bucky must be.
Finally, he heard the pair, and found them at the bottom of the stairs. He jogged the last few steps and noticed that Bucky was holding himself up against the wall, limping. The latter looked up with big, concerned eyes.
"You okay?" He asked Sam.
That was when Sam saw the bloody hand pressed against his soulmate’s chest. Natasha was helping him stay on his own two feet, while Bucky examined Sam’s body like his own life depended on it. Technically, that was the whole deal. Wilson pushed his own hand against Bucky’s and frowned.
"Did you get shot?" he shouted in despair, his eyes as big and afraid as ever.
"I'm sorry. I tried-" Bucky tried, but cut himself off with a grunt of pain.
"Buck." Sam grabbed his torso.
"Let's go home." Bucky begged.
"Yes. We will.” Sam’s tone became serious and authoritarian, “Sit down."
"I'm fine."
"He's losing a lot of blood." Natasha confirmed Samuel’s suspicions.
In between the frantic commands and worrisome looks, Bucky couldn’t help but notice Sam’s lack of discomfort. Almost like he hadn’t felt a gunshot in his chest a few minutes ago.
He frowned with confusion, "Why are you-?"
"I didn't feel it.” Sam shrugged it off, way more focused on the open wound, “Sit down. Bucky."
"What do you mean-?"
"I didn't. Bucky!” Sam grabbed the face of the stubborn, hurt man with his free hand, smearing blood all over his cheek, and yelled to his face. “James! Listen! There was no bond. Right now, that's not important. You're bleeding out."
"They didn't hurt you?" Bucky seemed to finally understand.
“No!”
The new information hit Bucky like a soft, warm wave of tranquility. If Sam wasn’t hurt, if Hydra hadn’t hurt Sam, then he didn’t need to worry. He could breathe. And as he breathed, he felt a sharp pain in his chest, along with some heavy dizziness.
"That's good." He mumbled, looking past Sam with lost eyes.
"It is. Now calm the fuck down." Wilson begged, trying to take a good look of the wound.
Bucky nodded, finally compliant, "Okay."
With that last word, Bucky’s eyes rolled back into his skull, and he surrendered to tiredness. He stopped feeling anything other than her very light head, until everything went black.
"Shit.” Sam cursed under his breath, catching him before he hit the ground completely.
He eased his partner’s fall and let the passed out body rest against the wall.
“Give me a hand.” He asked Natasha.
They managed to sit him straight against the wall, in order for Sam to press his hand against the bleeding gunshot. Nat said something over the communicators for the rest of the team, which Sam didn’t fully catch, before she knelt down next to her friend. She examined the wound, then Bucky’s pupils and let out a breath.
“He’s gonna be fine.” She appeased Sam.
“I know.” Sam said without giving it too much of a thought.
The woman gave him a wondering look.
Sam merely shook his head with uncertainty, “I just do.”

Xiao Zhan: Heart of a Youth – Serenity, Ingenuous and Principled
Translator’s Note: I take a break from the acting analysis articles and bring you something more current... I hope all of us can draw strength from this!
Original Article:https://www.weibo.com/ttarticle/p/show?id=2309404480985398902834#_0 Original Author: 雪色烟波里
“He is but a child of 30 years old.”
Quite frequently, the phrase “He is just a child” had been used as an excuse by fans, and I am not sure since when this has changed to become a way of mockery. Even before fans uttered anything on this, “bystanders” would have started going crazy with “although he made a mistake, he is still a child! So we should not let this go!”. I agreed very much with this statement – no one should use the identity of a child to absolve his responsibilities as an adult, an adult should act as one. However, when they started using this phrase on Xiao Zhan, and added his age as a form of mockery, this started to stink…
I felt as though I was personally insulted, since I am a self-claimed young girl nearing the age of 30. Using someone’s age as an insult is very impolite, since no one escapes the fate of becoming a 30 year old.
Tumblr media
Always realistic about his age, and his self-deprecating laugh when he speaks of his entry to entertainment business
To me, being of a certain age and yet having a heart of a youth is not conflicting. Some 18 year old could be methodical, sleek and boring, while others could be 80 and still retain their heart of a child, innocent and unblemished. As for Xiao Zhan, he had always positioned himself as an adult, and never used any excuses to shrink from his responsibilities, and therefore when his age was used as a weapon against him, and calling him a “30 year old child”, is definitely inappropriate. However, in the current darkness, I was able to see his heart of youth and his simplicity.  And I would put this across with the following phrase.
Tumblr media
A poem is always hard to translate, and therefore I give you the caption words instead. Serenity, ingenuous and principled.
SERENITY
“I always reminded myself, for many things, there is no need to openly display that on the screen, but you should just quietly do, and your efforts would always be seen. There is no need to fight for everything, and fighting for screen time would definitely be something not needed.” —- Xiao Zhan
The clip below was shot on 1 Feb 2016, when Xiao Zhan just debuted. Not vying or fighting might sound ridiculous in the world of adult, but this encompassed the entirety of Xiao Zhan’s acting career. No matter whether he was a side character, a supporting character or the lead character, he had always been quiet and low-key.
Tumblr media
Moving automatically to the side for ”Joy of Life“ announcement press conference
In his group, he is willing to be on the sides and become part of the background, always all smiles but never speaking much, always wanting to do his personal best, but never looking for any rewards. In most of the concerts, he would be in the corner, running across the stage to get into position, but never skimping on his dance moves.
Tumblr media
Xiao Zhan when his group was still active
Tumblr media
Xiao Zhan during the Talent Show, as bright as the sun
I liked to watch Xiao Zhan’s stage performances very much. From a technical perspective, his dance skills were way off from that of a professional’s, but you could definitely feel his enthusiasm no matter how far off to the side he was. Instead of admirable skills, he utilized more of his ability to inject emotions into his performances, creating an atmosphere of joy and passion. He enjoyed every single of his performances with passion. No matter whether there were flowers or applause for him, he always gave his 100% to the stage. For one to understand his dancing style, gifs are not enough; I would recommend watching his fan focused videos to understand better.
Tumblr media
Enjoying the stage with all of him
Tumblr media
That infectious smile
As a group vocal, Xiao Zhan is quite decent – his high notes are clear, his tone clean and warm, and generally very unique. Personally, I enjoy many of his China themed songs, never tiring from songs such as Qu Jin Chen Qing [曲尽陈情] (Wei Wuxian OST from the Untamed) and the cover of A Laugh over the Blue Sea [沧海一声笑] (OST from the The Smiling, Proud Wanderer movie).
Recently, there were many who mocked at him for being an idol vocal but not knowing how to use an in-ear monitor, but they never thought about whether a vocal of a relatively unknown idol group would have the right to his own personal in-ear monitor. He had to borrow for his performances, and if he was not able to adjust in time, he would just have to bear with it, because he had no right to complain. After he attained some fame, he was able to finally get his own in-ear monitor, and he immediately started learning from his mentors, so what is there to mock? I only saw a person who was able to practice patience in adversity, work hard and progress in good times. By watching the entire series of “Our Song”, you would have a better understanding of his vocal skills.

After attaining some level of fame, Xiao Zhan did not let that get to his head, but instead clearly understood his current position, and that popularity could be temporary, only his works would be the basis of his career. Many of his colleagues would describe him as “hardworking and down-to-earth”. In terms of his career, he never slacked off any of his jobs, always prepared and went all out. In interpersonal relations, he was always polite and restrained, and treated everyone around him modesty and warmth. His attitude towards his acting was that he always had to do better than what he did previously. His sense of serenity was not limited to just himself or to his future, and this instead created endless possibilities for his future.
Tumblr media
Always grateful
He never liked to claim credit, never cared about having commendations – when the host said that the Summer of 2019 belonged to Wei Wuxian, he replied that the Summer of 2019 belonged to The Untamed. When the fans were looking forward to his undubbed performances, he instead pointed out that the voice actors did plenty of value add. When the host asked him about that famous clip of him tearing up during script reading, he instead pointed out Xuan Lu and said that she was also tearing up but it was not captured on screen. You can understand how emotionally intelligent and humble he was just from a few interviews.
Tumblr media
Humble, kind and sincere
Tumblr media
Detailed and polite
He believed that hard work could change his fate, his faith almost like that of a fresh-faced youth – he did not care about everything else, except that if he did well enough he would be eventually rewarded. However, is the world really like this? He opened a path with his stubborn simplicity, and forced his way out, but now he has tripped and fallen. While everyone else is cheering and trying to add fuel to the flames, looking at this “entertainment business oddity” paying the price for not keeping to the “rules”, there may be just a handful of us reflecting on why it would be so difficult for a normal person to succeed. Does it mean that eking out a path on your own with just courage would only result in failure? This is something I refuse to believe. I will wait, and wait for him to stand again, to prove to the world that a person can create his own path with hard work, and we can follow every of his steps and not be defeated easily!
Tumblr media
We will not be easily defeated
INGENUOUS
On why he did not change his Weibo account after joining the entertainment business:
“I did not change because there was no need to. There is nothing to hide from the others. In those times, in 2010, that was exactly how I felt, I’m very open, I feel that there’s really nothing. In fact, this proves that my personality is not what everyone thinks as “super nice”, I’m just a living person, I feel that no one is perfect, and I don’t want to be a perfect doll.” —- Xiao Zhan
Tumblr media
Ingenuous
He did not change his Weibo account after 5 years in the entertainment business, he had always been a candid person. However, he overestimated the world’s tolerance and kindness, and all his personal inside jokes from his commoner days had been used to smear his and his friends’ reputation. Now, if you open Weibo, you would can see all the cyber-bullying against him, as though he had done a heinous crime, but the basis of all these were just some vulgarities he said 10 years ago. Is not the world ridiculous? Based on this, I could have been the most evil girl online, if whatever I said in Baidu Forums were ever exposed, since not only I used vulgarities, I also mocked posters who made a fool of themselves, but these history does not stop me from choosing to be a kind and upright person today. A person is ever-changing, and if we had to gauge a person’s current state on what he did 10 years ago, wouldn’t that be narrow minded? In fact, the Weibo environment 10 years ago is different from that of today, and it is ridiculous to impose current rules on something that was done 10 years ago. I respect all who are candid about themselves, and I would want to be such a person as well, and face the world with an open mind.
Tumblr media
The cyber-bullying could be seen everywhere
Tumblr media
This is overboard… and also something I rather not translate
Xiao Zhan did not deliberately create any persona, and his candid nature in handling himself is very obvious. He did not pretend to be someone he was not, did not shy away from showing his anxiety, and always used his true self to face everything:
During his Milan interview, he said excitedly that this was his first time to Europe.
During his time in X-Fire, on his first high speed rail trip, he was so excited that he recorded a vlog on it.
During one of their group activities, the organizers arranged for them to stay in an luxurious hotel, and he was so excited that he recorded another vlog on it, showing off the hotel as well as the huge bathtub.
When faced with a cat, he would smile in spite of himself. And he would play with random cats, be accidentally scratched by one and had to go for jabs.
His phone wallpaper had always been of “The God of Fortune”
His eyes would brighten up when he speaks or hears of money.
In fact, if you study him long enough, you would know that he is not perfect, but just a vivid, living person like each and everyone of us.
Tumblr media
“This is my first time to Europe” “I just felt, wow, this is amazing!”
Tumblr media
His excited face on his way to the high speed rail
Tumblr media
His excitement introducing his hotel room, and whoever used this to spread rumors is just plain evil
An ingenuous gentleman, his heart pure and clear, he does not need to be secretive about himself, nor does it need to disguise himself. This is the Xiao Zhan I know, and I accept every of his imperfections, and I am willing to work with him to become a better person. I hope that when I am nearing 30 years old, I would still be exuberant when I encounter the first snows of that year.
Tumblr media
And I hope that your heart will always remain clear, and your eyes forever starry
PRINCIPLED
“I feel that youth is that strength, just that strength, undaunted, undefeated by fate and fearless.” —- Xiao Zhan
In Everlasting Classics, Xiao Zhan sang “Bamboo in the Rock”. To be a person, one would strive to be a gentleman. To be a gentleman, one would strive to be like bamboo – unwavering against strong winds, and upright between the heaven and earth.
Relentlessly holding onto the mossy hill The roots buried within broken rocks Tough and strong despite endless erosion and assault Firmly against winds from all directions
Xiao Zhan said that his inner self is like bamboo, firm and tenacious. Many would scoff at this, and say that he did not do enough to control his fans. But is this really the issue of him not providing guidance for his fans? In fact, he has always been telling his fans, but this had been hijacked by the racket of public opinion.
“I can see that you say that studying is difficult, or work makes you unhappy, but growth is like climbing a mountain, the bigger it is, the harder it is, leave your grouses in your heart, when you look back at these problems again, you will realize that they were not difficult.” —- Xiao Zhan
“Actually, I want to tell everyone that no matter whether schooling or working, don’t forget to love life, to experience life and notice everything around you, love it!” —- Xiao Zhan
“There are both sides to everything, there are people who likes you and there will definitely be people who doesn’t like you, you don’t have to care too much about it. As long as we have good momentum, there will be more who will like us, and I will fight hard for those who likes us.” —- Xiao Zhan
Did anyone hear those?
“Idol and fans are actually symbiotic, we support each other and move forward together. When we live our respective lives well and continue to become better selves.” —- Xiao Zhan
“Hence I would say that my fans, I feel that you must first live your lives well so that you have spare time to like and follow the idol you like.” —- Xiao Zhan
Did anyone remember those?
“I am actually very careful, because now I represent not just Xiao Zhan, but my team as well, and if not for myself, there is no need to create unnecessary trouble. Frankly speaking, I haven’t met anything I can’t quite solve myself. But for many problems, others could only provide some opinions, give some directions, cheer you on, but they can’t really solve it for you. How to persist, how to endure, still all depends on myself, because only I know what really happened.” —- Xiao Zhan
“I feel that the ideal status is not changed by regrets. What is most important about life is making sure we live in the present and live well, and not regret the past. The present and future are the most important.” —- Xiao Zhan
Did anyone understand these?
He never stopped his guidance, but many were blind to them. Xiao Zhan’s firm attitude comes from being strict with himself, instead of becoming a nagging teacher disciplining his countless fans. A person could choose the person to like, but the person could not choose who would like him. Some people could not even be disciplined by their parents, how could this burden be instead placed on Xiao Zhan, who even has problems finding time to sleep? Is this not being difficult? If he had this ability, he might as well not be an actor, but become a professional educator.
Tumblr media
He had always been providing guidance, but he definitely cannot control everyone
When large groups of anti fans overtook the “Secret Garden” in Sept 2019, spamming that post with the bad comments, his fans quickly counter spammed the post in fear that he might discover and read those bad comments. The unnatural spike in comments obviously alerted him, and he posted “I’m here, goodnight”. Those who took this out of context to claim that he was inciting more verbal war obviously did not see the entire comment.
Tumblr media
The “shhhhh” emoticon is often left out when pointing this out.
In the storm of cyber-bullying, the only target is Xiao Zhan, because his Weibo account is the only one attached to a real name.
His personality is 100% firm and tenacious. His tenacity is in how he insisted to his doctor that he would continue to practice his dance steps despite inflammation in his knees; when his toenail fell off, he only asked if it would regrow. His tenacity is in how he would wear thick layers of period drama costume in the height of summer, and wear tattered rags in the deep freezing cold of winter. His tenacity is in shooting period dramas for straight 2 years, not knowing if they would actually be allowed to air. His tenacity is in how he would be fighting a lawsuit against his management, saying “Don’t look back, ever!”, while at the same time managing his endorsement deals by himself and plotting his own future. His tenacity is in how he would not give up despite not earning enough to support himself, and having to go to events by himself without any assistants.
He had survived one of the toughest period, so why should he admit defeat this time round? He would not, and his fans also have no reason to abandon him as well. He is faultless in this, and perhaps causing envy is his only fault here. Time will prove his innocence, falsehoods will not withstand the test of time.
Tumblr media
Biting his air tickets, so that he has spare hands to carry his own luggage. We will not give up no matter how tough it gets.
Tumblr media
We will accompany you through thick and thin
Tumblr media
We will become better people together
And I will end this article with another poem from Zheng Ban Qiao (the poet for Bamboo in the Rock):
A bamboo, an orchid and a rock, with integrity, discipline and fortitude
In a room these oozes gentlemanliness, evergreen against the test of time
A bamboo, an orchid and a rock, with integrity, discipline and fortitude
Firmly against gales and snowstorm, they will bring the news of the spring breeze

I’m in a Discord server with @onemoontorulethemall , and they shared a whump idea that held me at gunpoint until I wrote a fic. Thank you for the inspiration for one of the longest fics I’ve ever written!
Title: Of Monsters and Men
Fandom: Rick and Morty
Word Count: 1684
Warnings: whump, serious injuries, uncensored swearing, canon-typical familial dysfunction (Seriously. If you’re not familiar with the show, this means quite a bit of dysfunction.)
Description: Based on the first arc (Issues 1-3) of the Rick and Morty comics, but the bug doesn’t escape the garage and... you’ll see. Read that if you want to catch cool references, but hopefully this works as a standalone too. But also, read the comic if you’re a fan of Rick and Morty. It deserves more love.
It had been three months since Morty had returned home without Rick: three full months without adventures, without purpose, and with one less person around to yell at him. Morty still didn’t understand why Rick had let him use the one-person portal out of that prison maze. Maybe Rick was done with this family and had finally decided to leave. Well, Morty was sick of living like this. He had to do something. Morty snuck into the garage, loaded some weapons into Rick’s car, and took off.
He barely made it past Mars when he was pulled over by space cops. The trial was much faster this time- he had already been found guilty, and this time Morty didn’t hesitate to make a mockery of the court system. It wasn’t that he wanted to go die in space prison, but he no longer had the energy to care about being good. If things went south, it was just one last hurrah for Morty, you know? No big deal.
They sent him to the same prison as before- Clackspire Labyrinth. Huge monsters and swarms of smaller monsters, none of which Morty recognized, attacked. Morty used Rick’s hidden panels to find weapons that made it easy to slice through every threat. He didn’t feel tired. He was fueled by spite and the desire to not die pathetically.
Morty heard the sounds of monsters being slashed around the next corner. This was strange- none of the prisoners he’d seen survived more than a couple hours, and there hadn’t been any new drop offs. Suddenly, a voice:
“WUBBA LUBBA DUB DUB! EAT THAT!” followed by a blast. Rick? It couldn’t be. His mind must be playing tricks on him. Or worse, this could be just another part of the torture.
“Rick” killed the monster and ran around the corner, bumping right into Morty. “Morty? Wh-what are you doing here?” he asked.
“Oh don’t act so surprised. I know you’re just another monster.” Morty raised his gun, but despite himself, he hesitated.
“Says you, you’re probably the monster! Why the hell would Morty be here?” This image of Rick was pretty realistic. He looked human, not robotic at all, and he was clearly scuffed.
“Enough! I’m going to kill you.” Morty fired, and a ray blasted through Rick’s chest. Wow, this thing had blood? This prison did not half ass psychological torture.
The fake Rick coughed and sputtered as robotic needles stitched flesh back together from the inside. The real Rick had tech on every organ to make him essentially unkillable, and apparently this monster was the same. “Don’t… cross me, you piece of shit.”
“I’ll cross whoever I want! You- you think I'm going to give up?”
Just then, the Rick monster fired a ray gun at Morty. To Morty’s shock, the mortal wound began to heal itself in the same way the Rick’s had. He didn’t remember any loss of consciousness between the trial and being dropped into the maze, and why would they have put such modifications in a prisoner who was supposed to die? But to assume that Rick, the real Rick, had installed them made even less sense. Morty was always expendable, nothing more than a human shield.
Morty pushed the questions aside. He was not going to lose now. “Just because neither of us can die doesn’t mean I won’t try to kill you. How about I aim for where it really hurts?” Morty aimed for Rick’s skull.
The ray bounced off, but the impact knocked Rick into a wall. The Rick was shaken, but he stood up. “You really think I would leave my brain unprotected? Maybe you really are Morty, because I can’t think of anyone else who would be that stupid!”
“Of course I’m Morty! Who the hell are you?” Morty tackled Rick to the ground and grabbed his throat.
“Morty, don’t you get it? We’re both here. You- you gotta believe me. I’ve missed you so much. I let you through that portal because I knew the long way would be dangerous, and you- you deserved to go home. I may act above it all, and I am, but you’re my grandson, Morty. I didn’t want you to have to live the labyrinth life.”
Was Rick… crying? Damn, this was a shitty fake. “Y-you’re not fooling anyone, you know? The real Rick doesn’t care about anything or anybody. He had a coupon for a free replacement Morty from the Citadel of Ricks. I- I bet he’s escaped and gotten a new Morty, maybe even- maybe even a new dimension!” Or, Morty thought hopefully, maybe Rick was about to come rescue him and tell him what a piece of shit he was for ending up back in galactic prison.
Well, Morty was done waiting to be rescued. He let go of the Rick’s throat with one hand and grabbed his ray gun, shooting the impostor directly in the heart. The blast didn’t make it far, but Rick lost consciousness from the impact. Morty sat back, still holding the gun. Everything finally hit as Morty’s numbness dissipated. Morty never wanted to be a killer. He didn’t want to live “the labyrinth life.” All he’d ever wanted was to see cool shit in the multiverse and pretend that impressing his grandpa was an achievable goal. Part of him wished this monster Rick could kill him just so it would all be over.
As if on cue, the monster Rick woke up. Shit, now Morty looked vulnerable. Maybe he could think of a way to use that to his advantage if he mustered the ability to be heartless again.
“You alright, little buddy?” Rick asked, as if he wasn’t the one who had just been unconscious.
“What do you care?” Morty replied. “Either you’re a monster and you want to kill me, or you’re the real Rick and you’re waiting to laugh at me.”
“Okay, that’s pretty reasonable considering how I’ve presented myself for, uh… always. But what if it’s neither?” Rick looked at Morty gently - hadn’t this torture been cruel enough? - and waited for a reply. Morty just stared at him, daring this Rick to prove himself.
“What if, and I’m just spitballing here,” said RIck, “What if I’m your real grandpa and I’ve always cared about you? I’ve been thinking a lot over the past three months, and I think I leaned too heavily on the god complex. Just because I’m literally the smartest being in the universe doesn’t mean I have to be an asshole about it, right?”
Morty let out a snort of laughter despite himself, but he quickly redirected into a scowl.
“Yeah, I deserve that,” Rick continued. “You know, back in season 1- actually, I don’t know where the comic fits in the continuity, let alone the - alright, ignoring the fourth wall, one time I was kidnapped by another version of me who wanted to steal my memories because I was against the Citadel and because I was ‘the Rickest Rick.’ And while he was stealing my memories, they were playing on a screen he had. I saw you as a baby, Morty. He was playing my memories of you, and I actually teared up. I denied it, of course, but in that moment I was thinking about how I’d endangered you by bringing you on these crazy adventures and how all our fun might end in disaster. I don’t want that for you, Morty. That’s why I installed all that protective gear in you while you were sleeping. I never told you because I always had to keep up that god complex attitude. I felt like I’d be a better person without my attachments, and I thought that if anyone knew how I really felt, they’d just use it against us. Do you see what I’m saying, Morty?”
“That’s a good try at a sob story, Rick. I’m almost convinced.” Morty looked down at his hands. “But there’s absolutely nothing you could say to me that would convince me that the real you could be that vulnerable.”
“Maybe you’re right,” Rick said, and suddenly Morty heard a blast and everything went dark.
“Huh? Where am I? What did you-” Morty’s vision cleared as his consciousness came back. He seemed to be in his room. Was he dreaming? Dead?
Rick walked in. “If I was a monster, I wouldn’t have set the gun to stun.”
“Huh,” Morty considered, “I guess you’re right.” He paused. “Did you mean what you said back there? Do you really care?”
“Don’t talk so loud. This stays between us, alright?” Rick said in a mock-threatening tone.
Morty grinned. He got out of bed and hugged Rick. “I love you, Grandpa Rick.”
Rick returned the hug. “I love you too, Morty.”
Rick stepped out into the living room where Beth, Jerry, and Summer were sitting. “You heard nothing,” he announced.
“Okay, sure thing,” said Summer, not looking up from her phone.
“Is Morty okay?” asked Beth.
“He’s going to be fine. I want- I want to really drive the point home that you did not just overhear a tender moment of familial affection involving Rick Sanchez, smartest man in the universe.” Rick crossed his arms and glared at Jerry.
“Whatever you say, Rick,” said Jerry, clearly disappointed that Rick was back and taking charge again.
“Thanks for bringing him back, Dad,” Beth said. “We were so worried. And don’t worry, your secret is safe with us.”
“My secret is not safe with you,” Rick fumed, “because it’s not with you. You have no secret, capiche?”
“Grandpa, get off her case,” said Summer. “I’m sure you’re the same asshole you always were.”
“That’s right! Rick never learns a lesson!” Rick went out to the front door and seemed to shout at the universe in general. “Rick and Morty a thousand years, no emotional vulnerability! Okay maybe a little, sometimes, but only when lives are at stake! The word count on this thing got really out of hand, but you’re still listening! Fuck the fourth wall! Roll credits and theme music!”

Péguy
Hi everybody! In this news feed I've told you a few times about a project I named Péguy. Well today I dedicate a complete article to it to present it to you in more detail but also to show you the new features I brought to it at the beginning of the winter. It's not the priority project (right now it's TGCM Comics) but I needed a little break during the holidays and coding vector graphics and 3D, it's a little bit addictive like playing Lego. x) Let's go then!
Péguy, what is it?
It is a procedural generator of patterns, graphic effects and other scenery elements to speed up the realization of my drawings for my comics. Basically, I enter a few parameters, click on a button, and my program generates a more or less regular pattern on its own. The first lines of code were written in 2018 and since then, this tool has been constantly being enriched and helping me to work faster on my comics. :D This project is coded with web languages and generates vector patterns in the format SVG. In the beginning it was just small scripts that had to be modified directly to change the parameters and run individually for each effect or pattern generated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not very user friendly, is it? :’D
This first version was used on episode 2 of Dragon Cat's Galaxia 1/2. During 2019 I thought it would be more practical to gather all these scripts and integrate them into a graphical user interface. Since then, I have enriched it with new features and improved its ergonomics to save more and more time. Here is a small sample of what can be produced with Péguy currently.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Graphic effects typical of manga and paving patterns in perspective or plated on a cylinder. All these features were used on Tarkhan and Gonakin. I plan to put this project online, but in order for it to be usable by others than me, I still need to fix a few ergonomy issues. For the moment, to recover the rendering, you still need to open the browser debugger to find and copy the HTML node that contains the SVG. In other words, if you don't know the HTML structure by heart, it's not practical. 8D
A 3D module!
The 2020 new feature is that I started to develop a 3D module. The idea, in the long run, is to be able to build my comics backgrounds, at least the architectural ones, a bit like a Lego game. The interface is really still under development, a lot of things are missing, but basically it's going to look like this.
Tumblr media
So there's no shortage of 3D modeling software, so why am I making one? What will make my project stand out from what already exists? First, navigation around the 3D workspace. In short, the movement of the camera. Well please excuse me, but in Blender, Maya, Sketchup and so on, to be able to frame according to your needs to get a rendering, it's just a pain in the ass! So I developed a more practical camera navigation system depending on whether you're modeling an object or placing it in a map. The idea is to take inspiration from the map editors in some video games (like Age of Empire). Secondly, I'm going to propose a small innovation. When you model an object in Blender or something else, it will always be frozen and if you use it several times in an environment, it will be strictly identical, which can be annoying for natural elements like trees for example. So I'm going to develop a kind of little "language" that will allow you to make an object customizable and incorporate random components. Thus, with a single definition for an object, we can obtain an infinite number of different instances, with random components for natural elements and variables such as the number of floors for a building. I had already developed a prototype of this system many years ago in Java. I'm going to retrieve it and adapt it to Javascript. And the last peculiarity will be in the proposed renderings. As this is about making comics (especially in black and white in my case), I'm developing a whole bunch of shaders to generate lines, screentones and other hatchings automatically with the possibility to use patterns generated in the existing vector module as textures! :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What are shaders?
Well, you see the principle of post-production in cinema... (Editing, sound effects, various corrections, special effects... all the finishing work after shooting). Well, shaders are about the same principle. They are programs executed just after the calculation of the 3D object as it should appear on the screen. They allow to apply patches, deformations, effects, filters... As long as you are not angry with mathematics, there is only limit to your imagination! :D When you enter a normal vector in a color variable it gives funny results.
Tumblr media
Yes! It's really with math that you can display all these things. :D Now when you hear a smart guy tell you that math is cold, it's the opposite of art or incompatible with art... it's dry toast, you'll know it's ignorance. :p Math is a tool just like the brush, it's all about knowing how to use it. :D In truth, science is a representation of reality in the same way as a painting. It is photorealistic in the extreme, but it is nevertheless a human construction used to describe nature. It remains an approximation of reality that continually escapes us and we try to fill in the margins of error over the centuries... Just like classical painting did. But by the way? Aren't there a bunch of great painters who were also scholars, mathematicians? Yes, there are! Look hard! The Renaissance is a good breeding ground. x) In short! Physics is a painting and mathematics is its brush. But in painting, we don't only do figurative, not only realism, we can give free rein to our inspiration to stylize our representation of the world or make it abstract. Well like any good brush, mathematics allows the same fantasy! All it takes is a little imagination for that. Hold, for example, the good old Spirograph from our childhood. We all had one! Well, these pretty patterns drawn with the bic are nothing else than... parametric equations that make the students of math sup/math spe suffer. 8D Even the famous celtic triskelion can be calculated from parametric equations. Well, I digress, I digress, but let's get back to our shaders. Since you can do whatever you want with it, I worked on typical manga effects. By combining the Dot Pattern Generator and the Hatch Generator but display them in white, I was able to simulate a scratch effect on screentones.
Tumblr media
In the traditional way it is an effect that is obtained by scraping the screentones with a cutter or similar tool.
Tumblr media
Péguy will therefore be able to calculate this effect alone on a 3D scene. :D I extended this effect with a pattern calculated in SVG. So it will be possible to use the patterns created in the vector module as textures for the 3D module! Here it is a pattern of dots distributed according to a Fibonacci spiral (I used a similar pattern in Tarkhan to make stone textures, very commonly used in manga).
Tumblr media
Bump mapping
So this is where things get really interesting. We stay in the shaders but we're going to give an extra dimension to our rendering. Basically, bump mapping consists in creating a bas-relief effect from a high map. And it gives this kind of result.
Tumblr media
The defined object is always a simple cylinder (with 2 radii). It is the shaders that apply the pixel shift and recalculate the lighting thanks to the high map that looks like this.
Tumblr media
This texture has also been calculated automatically in SVG. Thus we can dynamically set the number of bricks. Well, this bas-relief story is very nice, but here we have a relatively realistic lighting, and we would like it to look like a drawing. So by applying a threshold to have an area lit in white, a second threshold to have shadow areas in black, by applying the screentone pattern to the rest and by adding the hatching that simulates the scraped screentone, here is the result!
Tumblr media
It's like a manga from the 80's! :D I tested this rendering with other screentone patterns: Fibonnacci spiral dots, parallel lines or lines that follow the shape of the object.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now we know what Péguy can do. I think I can enrich this rendering a bit more with the shaders but the next time I work on this project the biggest part of the job will be to create what we call primitives, basic geometric objects. After that I can start assembling them. The concept of drawing while coding is so much fun that I'm starting to think about trying to make complete illustrations like this or making the backgrounds for some comic book projects only with Péguy just for the artistic process. Finding tricks to generate organic objects, especially plants should be fun too. That's all for today. Next time we'll talk about drawing! Have a nice week-end and see you soon! :D Suisei

Secret relationship || 01
Tumblr media
Next part
♢ Pairing: Jungkook x Celeb!Reader
♢ Word count: 5.7 k
♢ Genre: Fluff, slightly suggestive and tiny bit of angst.
⌲ Description: Not only is Y/N a famous singer in America, up in the ranks with people like Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande. But she’s also dating a k-pop idol...in secret.
A/N: Geez I’ve been writing this one shot for two days straight now, along with editing a lot of pictures for it to make it seem more realistic for you guys. Hope you’ll enjoy it! It’s supposed to be a one shot, but I might make more of this couple if you want! Maybe where they go public? ;) Who knows, just give me a shout and it might happen <3
Some people might wonder what could be worse than going hungry.
That’s easy.
It’s being woken up when you were deep within the dream landscape in a wonderful daze. That is until someone thought it funny to slap a pillow on her face.
Y/N groaned loudly and opened her tired eyes to glare at her manager that stood beside her bed. She was looking bright and ready to go on with her day, unlike the girl sprawling on the bed.
“You get up at this moment missy!” Her usual cheerful voice said sternly, with hands on her hips.
Her name was Elizabeth. A woman in her late thirties bordering on forty. Despite her age she looked just as youthful as ten years ago. Her skin was light and flawless of any wrinkles, and her blonde hair was held up in a trendy bun. She had been the manager of the lazy girl since the very beginning when she was discovered by her current agency. The woman quickly took the girl under her wing and became a somewhat surrogate mother when she was separated from her real one.
“Noo, i’m sleepy!” Y/N whined and pulled the duvet over her head in protest.
“Do you know what time is it?” Elizabeth frowned, not that the girl could see it.
“Too early to be awake…” was the mumbled reply.
“It’s three thirty! In the afternoon.”
The girl in question let out a exasperated sigh before removing the warm duvet and peered up at her manager. “I still don’t see the problem.”
With a roll of her eyes, the woman yanked away the blanket and ignored the whine that came with it. “The problem is that you have an award ceremony to attend in two hours and still lazing around!”
It didn’t take her much more effort before Elizabeth had yanked her up from the bed and pushed her swaying form into the shower. Y/N emerged twenty minutes later in the bedroom - awake for once. A bathrobe was wrapped around her body as she dried her hair with a towel.
The hotel bedroom had already been turned into a salon by the time she was finished and was almost unrecognizable to the eye. Her now made bed had at least ten pair of shoes lined up in order and color, and on the side stood a rack of dresses. All ranging from two pieces to more short and simple ones. The vanity table was now covered with hair and makeup products as Y/N’s staff was fixing up the last details to begin. Taking a deep breath, she went and sat down on the chair in front of the mirror, and it didn’t take them long before her hair was being blow dried and brushed at the same time.
Y/N just let them do their work on her hair as she absently browsed through her social media to pass the time. She only flinched a few times as her hair was tugged a bit painfully, but mostly ignored it. It was almost the girl fell asleep again when her phone dinged loudly, telling her she had a new message. Blinking herself awake, Y/N took a look at her screen before a smile lit up on her face.
Tumblr media
A small giggle escaped her lips as she could just imagine him saying it in person. Her fingers tapped on her screen quickly to reply. She barely needed to wait a few seconds before he had already sent an answer to her own message.
Tumblr media
Y/N couldn’t help but raise her eyebrows at the innuendo. Others reading the message could easily mistake it as harmless banter and teasing, but she knew her boyfriend better than most people. And if he had an opportunity to turn it into something sexual, then he would. Quickly typing back, she put down her phone as the voice of Elizabeth called out to her from by the rack and she turned around in the chair to face her - being cautious, seeing how her hair was being styled at that moment.
Tumblr media
Her manager was looking conflicted as she browsed through the dresses with a determined mind. Sometimes shaking her head and sometimes nodding in approval.
“What do you think about this one?” She asked and held up a two piece in dark purple. The top was a high neck and beaded all over, and the skirt was flared out to her mid thighs.
Y/N shook her head, “It looks like something I would wear to prom.”
“Really?” Elizabeth asked and held up the outfit to closer inspection.
“Looks like something my daughter wore to her prom,” Y/N’s makeup artist, Yvonne, spoke up with a pointed look as she organized her brushes.
With a defeated sigh, the older woman put it back in place before rustling around some more and pulled out another dress. This one was a long floor gown, probably tight sitting on her body. It was gold and way too bedazzled. “This?”
“Liz, this is the Billboard awards, not the Oscars,” the girl sat in front the mirror said with a small grimace.
And she was a bit right at that. The dress looked too extravagant for wearing at a music award. With a small roll of her eyes, Elizabeth put it back on the rack and continued to search for something that was more fitting.
“Is this simple enough for you? Because there is nothing more normal than that,” her voice had taken a exasperated tone to it.
Y/N was just in time to catch the fabric that was flung in her face and held it up to look. It was perfect. The dress was simple, yet sexy and elegant. Which is something that was more her style than all the other over the top dresses. It was pretty low cut on the chest, but she never minded details like that. It was pastel pink and tight on her body as she slipped it on with some help. Yvonne was quick to take over after her hair was done, and kept muttering about how she couldn’t work well under stress as she applied foundation on the skin. Y/N had been so occupied with her clothes that she didn’t notice the new message on her screen, and locked up the phone to look at it. The reply made her roll her eyes with a small smile, until Yvonne hissed at her to stop moving and lean her head back.
Tumblr media
Y/N didn’t know how much time had passed as the brushes on her face kept being switched out and replaced with another. Her eyes had remained closed the entire time, as the eyeshadow was being applied to perfection. It was after the glue of her fake lashes had dried, that she slowly opened them to look in the mirror. Her skin looked smooth and glowing from the highlighter. The eyeshadow was a light smoky eyeshadow with a sharp winged liner that made her green eyes pop. Yvonne had done an amazing job on her eyebrows like usual, which normally looked like a mess in her own opinion. Her dark brown hair tumbled down her back in luscious curls and stopped right above her waist. Yvonne had her posing to snap a few pictures on her phone until they were quickly stopped.
“Alright, alright, you’ll have enough time to pose on the red carpet! We really have to go now!” Elizabeth stressed as she chucked Y/N a couple of white platform heels before moving out the door.
“It’s a magenta carpet by the way,” Y/N felt the need to correct teasingly, as her manager glowered in reply.
Her whole team rushed down to the parking lot and into a black fancy van that stood ready waiting for the celebrity to come. The time was fifteen minutes past six, and the carpet had begun at six sharp. But she relaxed knowing that it was normal to come a little late, as barely anyone actually comes in time. Or else the carpet would be packed by the first minute. The car drove through the thick traffic of Las Vegas as they neared the arena where the awards were being held. She remembered that she still hadn’t replied to Jungkook’s message and decided to send him a picture of her outfit for tonight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As her thoughts slowly drifted to the man she called her boyfriend, Y/N couldn’t help but feel her smile turning into a small grin. It seemed almost impossible to think about how him and her even met in the first place. She was a world known artist from the states, while he was from South Korea, in a category that was slowly climbing up to the top. They met for the first time about a year and a half ago, when she went to Seoul for a trip with her family. Her mother was half Korean because of her grandfather, and so they had family there. Despite Y/N barely looking anything like a native Korean at all with her green eyes and tan skin, she was still taught Korean from the moment she was born. Her mother made sure of it so she could communicate with their family living over there. Her father was a typical American man, her dark brown hair and tan skin coming from him. While her eyes came from her mom. But in the household that Y/N grew up in was a bit of a mix of both cultures. She was taught the typical things as honorifics and manners that her mother grew up with, while her father was more relaxed and chilled out and brought the more “American” side to their small family. For breakfast they would sometimes have rice and kimchi, and other times eggs and bacon.
The first time she met Jungkook was a total accident. One of her close friends that she gained in L.A was Amber of all people. Who had suddenly moved one day to pursue her music career in another country. They had met up when she arrived, and Amber invited her to join to one of those music shows to visit and support some of her friends that were promoting at the time. Y/N had agreed as they quickly made their way towards the MNET building or whatever it was. She never thought that many in Asia knew who she was, despite her huge success in America and Europe. But when they got backstage of the music show, many idols had gasped and dropped their jaws at the sight of her there. That was when Amber reminded her how popular she actually was.
“Don’t tell me you’re actually shocked. You’re Y/N! You’ve dominated the charts several times and had several world tours. Do you want me to remind you of your VMA’s wins?”
She had quickly stopped the older girl from keep gushing about her so called big achievements before they made her sound arrogant to others. Y/N had greeted those who said hi to her in fluent korean, that possibly shocked them even more. She had sheepishly dragged Amber quickly away to meet her friends before anything else could happen. The backstage area was so small and tight that it took some work to push past all the people being in there. Y/N had stupidly enough lost her only guide and was suddenly pushed as she tripped over her own feet clumsily, right into someone's back. That person happened to be Jungkook, who in instinct had quickly turned around and steadied her with hands on her shoulder. Y/N can still remember how embarrassed she was and kept apologizing and not even notice how still he had gotten. He was staring at her with wide eyes and mouth dropped slightly open, and the first thing he said was: “Whoa...”
But the both of them somehow hit it off quite well, despite Jungkook being a bit shy after that, seeing how one of his favorite artists literally bumped into him. He never imagined to even have the opportunity to see her in person, let alone talking to her. They had exchanged numbers and kept in contact during her time in Korea. Sometimes even meeting up to hang out. The communication was a bit limited when she left again and schedules filled up both her and his time. But they managed to become the greatest of friends in just six months. Involving a lot of calls and long night skype conversations. The next time they met in person was when his group had a show in her hometown, and of course she had to go. It wasn’t until face to face that both of them realized that they had developed feelings for each other, which was a big problem. Jungkook was an idol, a big one at that. His group was thriving for the success that they worked for, and had such dedicated fans. They couldn’t ruin that because of their selfish reasons. Or that’s what Y/N had told him when he confessed to her. She didn’t want to be the reason for his fans to hate him and start leaving the fandom. It seemed too risky.
She was just lucky to be in the kind of industry where fans weren’t as possessive over her like they were to him. She’s dated a quite few people through her career and had it gone public almost instantly. Yet it never was something big. It was just a part of life, and her fans knew that. But their cultures were different, and she had to respect that. But being the stubborn headed pig that her boyfriend was, he refused to let that “small” detail get between them. And he promised to make it work. And here they were today, a year later and still going strong and in secret. Her fans had already figured out that she was dating from her Instagram posts, if it was them holding hands or cuddling in bed. But all the pictures were taken in a angle where they couldn’t see his face. So his identity was still a mystery to all her fans.
Tumblr media
Y/N was shook back to present time when the van came to a smooth stop, and she could hear the muffled yells of fans from the outside. Looking out of the window she saw the magenta carpet being filled with people. Both paparazzi, celebrities and interviewers alike. With a small knock from Elizabeth against the window, was the door of the van pulled open as she stepped outside. A couple of screams and yells were heard at the sight of her, as she turned around to wave quickly at the fans. Her manager was by her side through it all as the woman ushered her in front of the rows of photographers. There were voices everywhere that called out to her to look here or there. Y/N did it calmly as she posed and smiled from different angles. The magenta carpet past by pretty quickly for her, as there was always something to do. Whether it was getting interviewed or saying hi to friends that she hadn’t met for a while.
After all the hype that was going on the carpet, Elizabeth had pushed her inside the building and backstage to where her wardrobe was assigned to be. Sadly she would not be performing today, but she was nominated for several awards as well. Backstage were so many familiar faces that she had to stop and greet several of them and being stopped herself. So the trip took a bit longer than necessary. But as she continued down the hallway, seven familiar forms standing in a half circle slowly came into view. They were talking to someone, she noted. Y/N followed their eyes to see another familiar person standing there, dressed in a long red dress. As she came closer, his eyes flickered up to meet hers and she saw the way his shy smile dropped and his eyes widened the smallest of fractions. Not trying to be obvious to the many people around them, she decided to make her presence known.
“Camila!” Y/N called out with a bright grin as the woman in question turned around and smiled at the sight.
The seven boys had reacted at her voice as well as they all looked up.
“Oh my gosh Y/N!” Camila replied excitedly and lifted her dress as she met her halfway.
Both girls wrapped their arms around each other in a tight hug.
“You look amazing,” the now solo popstar gushed as she took in her outfit.
Y/N scoffed with a smile, “Stop it, look at you! Damn girl, you’re hot,” she winked and got a shy giggle in reply.
“Seriously I’ve missed you so much,” Camila pouted. “What’s going on with you lately?”
“I know i’ve been really absent, sorry,” Y/N said with a small frown herself. “It’s been really hectic ever since the album dropped and all that.”
“I get it,” she replied back. “But we have to hang out soon, it’s been like forever!”
“Ugh I knoow,” Y/N answered with a groan. “I missed you so much.”
“Same, it’s pretty boring not talking to you for a long time,” Camila grinned. “But are you going to Drake’s after party later?”
Y/N’s eyes flickered quickly to the boys behind them before meeting her friend’s again. “I’m not sure. He sent me a message about it, but i’ll have to see.”
A voice cut in their conversation as they called out to Camila to go and prepare for her performance that was one of the first during the show. With a small frown, the popstar quickly hugged her again and promised to talk later if possible before departing with her small team trailing behind. It was at that moment she finally turned to face the guys who had been respectively waiting for the conversation between the two girls to end.
“Look who it is,” Hoseok was the first to speak up in Korean with a bright grin, before moving forward and catching her in a hug.
Y/N laughed slightly and returned it. The boys all moved forward one by one and hugged her eagerly as they were also a bit more relaxed to see a familiar face in such a big place. Jungkook had been last as he walked up to her with a small smile, as she returned it. Y/N reached up and fixed his tie slightly before looking up at him.
“Hey there handsome,” she grinned before hugging him around the waist.
He returned it tightly and rested his chin on top of her head as his arm rested on the back of her waist. They didn’t stay like that for long as there were a lot of people backstage with them and they didn’t want it to look too friendly for prying eyes.
“How are you guys feeling?” Y/N had asked them as she stood back and took a quick sweep over their clothes.
“Nervous,” Yoongi replied with a small shrug.
“You don’t look very nervous,” she raised her eyebrows.
And he really didn’t. He stood in a very casual way with hands in his pockets.
“You shouldn’t let his cold facade fool you of all people Y/N,” Namjoon said with a pointed look.
“Probably not,” she shrugged in reply as they all chuckled. “But i’m so excited for you guys!”
“It’s pretty unbelievable,” Jimin nodded in agreement to her words.
“Come on you’ll all do fine!” She assured them. “Most of the fans here are for you after all, so you’re definitely not alone.”
Her words seem to relax all of them a bit more as they regained their confidence back. She could understand why they were so on edge. They were in an unfamiliar country, with a language that most of them don’t speak, surrounded by artists that they had only seen on screen. It could get very intimidating.
“Bangtan you have to find you seats,” One of their staff members suddenly said as they all began move.
“We’ll talk to you later Y/N!” Namjoon waved at her.
“I’ll catch up,” Jungkook said to his members as they all nodded in understanding.
One of their managers stayed behind to wait for the youngest member but they stood a bit farther away to give them some privacy, and Elizabeth seemed to do the same as she was occupied with something on her phone. The couple had moved away from standing in the middle of the hallways to instead leaning against the wall to draw less attention to themselves.
“I missed you so much,” Jungkook finally sighed out as he tucked a small strand of hair behind her ear.
“I missed you too,” Y/N smiled gently up at him.
The distance between them was at a respectful length that both seemed to dislike, but they couldn’t do anything about it.
“You have no idea how much I want to kiss you,” he said as his eyes kept flickering down to her lips.
She giggled at his words. “Later, I promise.”
“You better keep it,” he raised an eyebrow at her.
“Oh you know good I am at keeping those kinds of promises,” she stated with a smug tone.
Jungkook smirked slightly as he stared at his girlfriend. She was so beautiful that it was almost painful to not be able and touch her, or hold her like he usually does.
“We should go, the show is starting soon,” Y/N finally said as he nodded in agreement.
It seemed like she wasn’t going to have time to go to her wardrobe at all with all that just happened. They both turned towards their managers as they understood and started to lead them out towards the venue. As they walked side by side, she could feel his hand resting on her back. But the moment they came out into the seating area, his hand fell back to his side as they separated in silence to go towards their respectful seats. The boys were a bit further in the back, while Y/N had hers on the very front.
The show went by quicker than Y/N had imagined where she sat alongside stars like Nicki Minaj and Drake. She never did speak too much with the female rapper as they both obviously had different interests and never really came across each other face to face before. Drake on the other hand, she had met a couple of times and spoken with. Which was also the big reason for his invite to the after party. They were both huge stars that enjoyed the attention of the public a bit more than Y/N ever did, but they weren’t terrible to be seated with. During the breaks between the show they were both friendly and involved her in conversations, seeing how she was sat alone and not with someone more familiar. It was about time when the award for top social artist was going to be presented, that everyone in the arena noticed how the crowd sitting on the sides were getting wilder for each second that went by. Y/N smiled smugly at the display BTS fans showed to their favorites.
“What is going on?” The infamous voice of Nicki had asked as she looked around in bewilderment.
“They’re going crazy,” Drake noted with a curious tone.
But as the presenters finished their dialogue, the screen for the nominees started to roll as the first artist came on. The applause for Justin Bieber was normal as some cheered. But when the familiar sound of Blood, Sweat and Tears echoed through the arena, screams were going crazy as most people flinched in surprise. The moment BTS was called up as winners, Y/N stood up on her feet and clapped as all the fans went insane once more, and kept chanting the group name. Others clapped in respect, but there was confusion clear in their eyes as they didn’t recognize the name. Y/N was the only one to stand on her feet from the front row when the seven boys passed in disbelief. Once seated again, she couldn’t stop grinning as Namjoon delivered the beautiful speech in fluent english. She could feel the pride blossoming within her as she cheered loudly when they went off the stage. After that the rest of the night went quite quickly as there was nothing much to look forward to. Y/N had been nominated in the same category as BTS, but they obviously took the win.
As the crowds within the arena began to disperse, she met up with Elizabeth again who had been waiting backstage. Her team all went into the van as it pulled out and drove back towards the hotel they stayed at. The day had been longer than she expected when she arrived back in her room alone and took a look at the clock. It was almost 1 AM. Feeling the energy slowly leaving her body, Y/N went to take a quick shower and clean off her makeup and changing into some comfortable clothes when her phone dinged.

Before he had sent another message a knock sounded loudly from her door as a new message appeared quickly after.
Tumblr media
With wide eyes she rushed to unlock the door and saw Jungkook standing on the other side with a grin. He was dressed in a pair of comfortable shorts and a white t-shirt. He was wearing some slippers on his feet. Slippers that looked exactly like those that the hotel had given her at arrival.
“You’re at the same hotel?!” Y/N exclaimed as he stepped inside and locked the door.
“Guilty,” he said sheepishly.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” She asked and followed him.
“I didn’t know myself,” Jungkook admitted. “I asked Elizabeth about it earlier.”
He turned around to face her and without warning bent down to press his lips against hers. Y/N let out a small sound of surprise, but found herself quickly kissing him back as a pleased sigh escaped from her.
“I’ve been waiting all day to do that,” Jungkook muttered as they separated, with his arms wrapped around her waist. “You have no idea how much I’ve missed you.”
Y/N smiled as her arms looped themselves around his neck and she stood on her toes to get closer. “I think as much as I’ve missed you.”
Jungkook smiled as he took in the sight of her in his arms again after so long and pressed a peck on her forehead. They both stayed in each other’s embrace for a while longer before moving to the bed and laying down together.
“Are you staying tonight?” She asked as she played with the collar of his shirt.
He was absently threading his fingers through her damp hair and hummed in reply. “We’re leaving a bit later tomorrow for L.A.”
“Really? Looks like we have the same plan.”
“Mhm, our schedule is packed for the next two days with interviews and according to our manager hyung, the requests keep coming.”
Y/N chuckled, “That’s what happens when you’re the first k-pop group to win a billboard.”
“Yeah no kidding,” Jungkook sighed mockingly.
“When are you flying back to Korea?”
“I don’t know yet,” he replied. “We’re leaving straight to Australia for the concert after the interviews.”
Y/N frowned slightly, “Oh…”
Fingers were placed under her chin as they pulled up her face to look at him. Jungkook smiled gently at her. “Let’s not worry about that. We have tonight.”
She smiled in return and cuddled closer into his arms before taking out her phone and quickly snapping a picture of their position and posting it on Instagram.
Tumblr media
“What are you doing?” Jungkook chuckled.
“Boasting to the world how wonderful my boyfriend is,” Y/N replied with a grin, when suddenly the phone was taken out of her hand and she was pushed back against the bed.
A small “oomf” came out of her mouth as she looked at him hovering over her body. Gone was the gentle smile and eyes filled with a loving glint. Instead there was a steady smirk, and his brown irises had gone darker with lust. None of them needed to say a word as they both reached towards each other in unison and locked their lips in a passionate dance. Their tongues in a battle for dominance as their movements became more frantic as lust clouded both of their minds.
Y/N woke up to the feeling of strong arms wrapped around her waist and a breath tickling the back of her neck. Blinking away the sleep clouding her eyes, she looked around the room with a dazed look before turning around. Jungkook’s sleeping face greeted her as he breathed in and out in deep sleep. His hair was a bit messy from their last night activities that lasted for a while, before they both fell asleep in exhaustion. The duvet covered only his waist and down as his muscled chest and abs were exposed to the air. With a small smile she leaned over and pecked his forehead, before gently removing his arm around her body. Slipping out of the bed, Y/N shivered slightly from the air brushing over her nude skin before she quickly changed into sweatpants and a white normal crop top. She brushed her teeth and washed her face, before taking a brush to get rid of the obvious sex hair that was on her head. She walked back out into the bedroom to see her boyfriend slowly coming to life as he yawned and stretched his body.
“Sleep well?” she couldn’t help but smirk a bit.
“Like a baby,” he replied smugly.
Y/N chuckled before bending down to take his shorts and boxers before tossing them in his direction. He caught them effortlessly and stood up from the bed, not the least shameful to be naked in front of her and slipping into his underwear.
“How did you sleep?” His groggy morning voice asked her as he walked towards her and wrapped an arms around her hips.
“Amazing,” She answered while fluttering her eyes dramatically and he laughed lightly.
Jungkook bent down to give her a kiss on the lips, but she stopped him quickly with a hand. “Morning breath,” she warned. “Go brush your teeth, you can borrow mine.”
With a exaggerated roll of his eyes, he shuffled towards the bathroom as his girl gave his butt a teasing slap as he passed.
While he was getting ready Y/N took a quick glance over her room and began to gather up all her clothes and belongings to pack them in her suitcase. She didn’t want to stress with all of it later when Elizabeth would come storming in. It was quickly finished as she didn’t bring that many belongings, before she opened the screen of her phone and hundreds of twitter and instagram notifications greeted her.
“What the hell...?” Y/N muttered as she went into her twitter feed and looked at what it was about.
Her eyes widened slightly as she saw pictures and collages of a few shots of her and Jungkook from yesterday. It was when they were backstage and talking together alone, as well as when she had hugged the rest of the group. Y/N foolishly forgot that even if they were backstage, nothing was a secret there. There was even a small 6 second videoclip of the two of them walking away and cut right off when his hand rested on her back.
As she scrolled through all the mentions frantically and it was obvious that the BTS fans were dying of shock and curiosity.
‘OMG Y/N AND BTS INTERACTED’
‘Holy shit they hugged her so comfortably!’
‘WTH I never knew BTS and Y/N were close???!!!’
‘JUNGKOOK AND Y/N TALKING I PRIVATE??? SOMEBODY EXPLAIN’
‘Did we miss something?’
‘International playboy is out playing again’
‘Daamn Jungkook is getting it, just look at his hand’
‘Are they dating?’
‘They can’t be dating can they?’
‘I NEVER KNEW THEY EVEN MET!?’
‘I went to sleep and wake up to chaos, like wth’
Thousands upon thousands of fans and comments swarmed the internet along with all the pictures and video being shared around. Y/N knew that it didn’t look as bad as the comments made it be. But just seeing all the reactions to it made her feel uneasy.
“Fuuuck,” Y/N groaned out as she ran a hand through her hair.
“What’s wrong babe?” Jungkook’s voice asked her as he came out of the bathroom, a towel drying his hair. He must have gotten a shower as well. She was probably to occupied to notice.
“Twitter, Instagram, facebook!” she stressed out and met his concerned eyes. “The whole internet is going crazy!”
“What do mean?” he asked in confusion, and held her shoulders to calm her down.
“Someone took pictures of us yesterday backstage talking, and now the whole world knows,” Y/N explained with a look. “Your fans are going crazy.”
Jungkook tensed slightly as a small frown overtook his features. He took her phone and looked at what she spoke about. Comments in english, korean and other languages were discussing about the news. Several articles had already been posted. He took a glance at his girlfriend and saw her pacing around the floor as a nervous look was on her face. Locking the phone, he put it on the table before stopping her in her frenzy.
“It’s going to be okay,” he said looking into her eyes.
“How?! They’re never going to give up!”
“Y/N, those pictures are harmless. We weren’t touching or kissing. We were only conversing, and it’s normal to interact with new people. I’m sure the Bang PDnim is going to call and figure this all out if it becomes any bigger, but when the time comes we’ll figure it out. Together, alright?” His words had visibly calmed her down as Y/N relaxed and nodded along to his words.
Jungkook pulled her into a tight hug as she returned it with a small sigh. “We’ll get through this, I promise,” he muttered and kissed the top of her head.
“I love you,” Y/N mumbled into his chest and tightened her arms around him.
“I love you too.”

The Movie
There’s been a lot of hate for the Maximum Ride movie lately, but as a lifelong fan, I realized I should watch it anyways and give my own two cents. Here’s the thing: it was flawed, but for different reasons than I see people mentioning. Buckle up, it’s long, unedited, and highly opinionated.
We’ll start with the casting of the movie. “Max isn’t supposed to be blonde! Ella is too old! Fang is supposed to be mysterious!” Welp, I agree to an extent, but I remember specifically looking up these things when I was a young fanfic author trying to figure out this stuff. Max’s hair color changes depending on what book you’re reading; to an extent you can’t fault them for letting Allie Marie Evans keep her hair as it is. If you’re upset because having blonde hair means that Max can’t be a strong female lead, as blonde hair automatically makes her a stupid girly-girl, then you’ve got to reexamine your ideals. Ella’s age was never mentioned in the books. I think it was implied that Ella was younger than Max, but Max is mature for her age, so it skews the scale a little.
As for the ages of the actors and actresses in the movie, it was decided early in the process they all would be aged up. For one, Max says that all of them can pass as a few years older than they actually are in the books. Second, do you really want a five-year-old playing Angel? Really? Third, there are, like, child labor laws they had to work with. Aging up the characters gave them some more freedom (unless you wanted to wait another two years for the film).
I can agree that there wasn’t a lot of romantic chemistry between the Max and Fang characters (and that maybe the script didn’t call for it in the first movie? There didn’t seem to be much dialogue pushing the relationship, which was true to the book!), but I will argue that everybody seemed to work together as a Flock pretty well. Apparently the cast still hangs out sometimes. Check out their instagrams. It’s super cute.
As for costuming, ugh. I can see what they were going for, giving them sleeveless shirts for wing mobility and each of them sort of have their own style, but giving them all designer-ripped-jeans and that cool “hipster-punk” look is, um, off. To be fair, the first books were written in the 2000s, so maybe the new design was supposed to appeal to today’s perceived audience. I don’t know. And I supposed if the new wing anatomy lets them completely disappear (which I’m going to respect because it would be so hard to give them wings 24/7 on their money and time budget (and also those wings were kinda ugly and I didn’t want to see them more than I had to)) they wouldn’t need bulky clothes to hide them. And they were relatively safe in ‘The Nest’ (which I think is a cool name and I wish I could use it because ‘E-shaped House’ is a mouthful) so they wouldn’t need to worry as much about protecting their vital organs or anything, at least.
AND NOW FOR THE PLOT.
Let’s be honest, the first book had a tendency to drag things out, getting distracted with side plots that didn’t lead anywhere and adding fight scenes for the heck of it. And we love those adrenaline-rush-inducing bits, but it wouldn’t be realistic to try to fit all of that into an hour-and-a-half movie on a low budget. It would seem rushed and disjointed. So, they cut corners with the plot to make it follow-able for people coming to it without having previously read the books.
I wish they had done more with what action/fighting scenes they had. Maybe choreographed more or actually taught the actors and actresses basic martial arts. The ability to survive and fight is a huge part of the winged-bird-kids’ personalities and backstory, and if they had done more showing where they fought together as a team it would really help fill the relationship gaps they left when they cut other parts of the story.
I think the decision to have just Max and Fang leave together was because they didn’t want to have to create six pairs of wings. To be fair, that would probably be a mess. (And maybe they should have left out a lot more of the awkward CGI flying in favor of actual plot). But to make the crucial plot detail change work (convince the fans it was good) they needed to develop the idea more. The argument should have been more difficult, first of all. You just showed me that Nudge was trying to escape and Iggy was in charge of keeping the pantry stocked as a vital part of the Flock’s survival; Max needs a better excuse to leave them behind, and they should have fought harder. (I understand avoiding the “Yes, Iggy, it’s because you’re blind,” part of that argument to avoid offending any viewers, but without it the argument falls flat).
So the Flock separates. They show Iggy, Gazzy, and Nudge interacting in ‘The Nest,’ proving to me they are siblings who have lived in this house for years, right? Nah, they skip straight to Ari stalking them and beating them up. The writers sort of tried some dialogue between Max and Fang, but their book interactions don’t translate well to screen (they speak with their eyes and through actions. Fang’s a man of few words, especially in the beginning).
The flashbacks. Apparently some people hate them? I actually smiled with that first scene. Don’t tell me, reading the books for the first time (and before discovering fanfiction), that you didn’t beg some invisible JP deity for some scenes of the Flock in the School pre-escape. And especially for the commonly-alluded-to-but-oddly-elusive escape.
And I may have gasped when little Ari ran out the doors after Jeb.
I think they did a pretty decent job of the Ella/Dr. Martinez story. In my opinion they nailed Dr. M.
The way the Erasers finally caught the rest of the Flock was kind of lame. It’s supposed to the one of the high points of the story. I’m supposed to be sitting on the edge of my seat, biting my nails. And we get two minutes of writhing on the ground in pain. (The idea of a “bird-whistle” is actually cool, but I wish it wasn’t relied on so heavily). This just goes back to getting somebody to choreograph some fighting. It would have been awesome.
To be honest, from there on I didn’t pay as much attention. I got bored. I can say the Big Escape was almost anti-climatic. Sure, I didn’t think they were actually going to CGI a hundred birds to dive-bomb dozens of Erasers and whitecoats, but I was hoping they would cook up something more clever than Generic Escape #402. There was not sense of danger. There weren’t any stakes. Because the Flocks’ lives weren’t threatened, and there didn’t seem to be that many people chasing them, the action fell flat and felt superfluous. (AND THERE SHOULD BE WARNINGS FOR ANYBODY WITH EPILEPSY).
EVERYTHING ELSE
Okay, I’ll start out with saying I am, in no ways, a film expert. I can’t tell you whether the directing was good or bad, whether the lighting was optimal, or whether the cameras used were a good choice (is that a thing people criticize?).
I can tell you the editing was, at times, poor. Things that kill momentum: awkward black screens. Drawn-out scenes of Fang and Max flying over wilderness. Long POV shots of whitecoats peering at their patient. And, despite effort, Max running down that plastic-sheet-lined hallway while lights flash and the music incessantly plods on for four years.
The music didn’t help the story, either. I’m a bit of a nerd, so I listen for the soundtrack while a movie is playing. The music sets the mood. And the music was disappointing. There was nothing wrong with the tune necessarily, but it sounded canned. Like somebody used the ‘violin’ feature on an electric keyboard to make it. And it was used in places that would have benefitted from quiet (like when Max woke up in Ella’s room) and didn’t play (that I can remember) under long dialogue scenes that could have used a little emotional stimulation. And at times it seemed the wrong track was used. Why did they decide to make Jeb and Max’s conversation as emotionally intense as the escape?
And the script. Ah, the script. The thing that drives the characters, sets the tone, tells the story. It wasn’t all bad, but there was so much unnecessary exposition. Halfway through the movie, Fang reminds Max that they were raised with wings and had to fight to survive. Duh. Rule of thumb: if the dialogue has exposition, you don’t need narration. This movie gave us both.
And the characterization, to every fan’s chagrin, was wrong. While I appreciate that almost every character got to speak, (not Angel though?), what they said did not align with their canon character. Sure, Max is an overly-protective mother, but she wouldn’t seriously threaten anybody in her family. A sarcastic ‘turn your tail feathers ‘round or I’ll kick you into next week,’ but not ‘try to leave again and I’ll break every bone in your body.’ They never balanced out the kick-butt side of her with the loving side of her. All around, she was too serious.
Fang talked too much. It’s interesting they decided to explore the “Max and Fang have differing ideals” route before establishing “they are bffs.”
I like that they showed Iggy as an integral part of the Flock’s functioning (being in charge of the food), but his personality disappeared. And his interactions with Gazzy were sadly minimal.
Maybe because they aged up Nudge they tried to make her seem more like a stereotypical teenager? Something was lost in translation. Yes, Nudge is stubborn and most likely of the Flock to try to lead a ‘normal’ life, but she also has a personality. She didn’t talk enough. Quick fix: take Fang’s lines, give ‘em to Nudge. Her character could get away with too much exposition before a story. She has such an attitude in the movie, but the huffy teen kind instead of the fun sassy kind. Nudge is supposed to look up to Max, not despise her.
Gazzy was pretty cool. He made bombs, at least. Unfortunately, his character was never really developed much past that in the books so it’s at least an accurate portrayal.
Angel jumped the gun. She’s not supposed to be creepy and mysterious until a few more books have passed.
Tl;dr: The movie based on the somewhat-vague but well-loved books took itself too seriously, focusing on action scenes it couldn’t live up to.

My Year In Review
I have had one hell of a year. I left a job I loved because overstress and went to a job I loathed. I'm not going to dwell on it here, but I was miserable there, and it damn near killed my passion for teaching. The only bright spot in that was that it lead to my current job. I proved myself to a parent, and she interviewed me for a position at the school where she worked. For much of the year, I was faking it. I was doing what I needed to get by. Things got bad; really bad this past year and, I was in no place to write anything. I was in no mood to write reviews, start new pieces of fiction, and did not have the energy to expand on "Escape." I began that the last time I was in a dark place and would open old wounds that were already reopening with all I was going through. And it sucked not to have the desire to write. Writing is my escape from the world. I go to a movie or have an idea, and I get to pour my thoughts out and organize them. I get to see what I am thinking manifested on the screen (sometimes page since I have started journaling this year, too). I have been slowly getting back into writing more. I've occasionally written a review, though I did not post everything. It has been a struggle to get into a routine. I've been doing pretty good for the last few months. My new schedule (aka working regular teacher hours) has allowed me more time to get back into this routine, and I have loved it. So let's get a break down of my year, and I hope that next year I can do a top 10. NEW JOB Having worked in a preschool setting for the better part of a decade, accepting this job was going to mean a considerable change. Getting offered the position of At-Risk Teacher was one of the best things for me. At-Risk Teacher is precisely the position I needed. Part of the reason I initially was hired was because of the differentiated instruction I did to help a group of preschoolers learn the letters of the alphabet. What I get to do now is pull small groups and work on specific skills with them in which they need some help. The problems I take on have gone from macro to micro. Why isn't a student getting this? What is a better way to deliver this information for this student? What concepts does this student need to learn to be successful? Those are the hard questions that I love. Looking over the data and pinpointing the problem is where I thrive. Those are the problems I want. I've had a lot of changes since I started, but recently my schedule was reworked to maximize my time, and it has been the most fulfilled I have felt working in years. COME FROM AWAY I have season ticket's to Shea's, a local theater in Buffalo that hosts many events over the year, but most notably, their Broadway Series. I decided with my new position I needed to-deserved to-treat myself to something. In October, I saw "Come From Away" and was absolutely blown away. The musical is about a small town in New Foundland that took in seven thousand passengers from 38 planes when the airspace over the United States closed on September 11, 2001. It was stunning and one of the best things I have seen on stage. The creators describe it as a September 12 musical. It is a heart-warming story of people coming together and opening their home and town to strangers. It is one of those stories that gives you faith in humanity (which is very hard to come by these days). There is a moment near the end of the musical where-even listening to the soundtrack-I get teary-eyed. The night I went to see it, that moment happened, and the woman sitting next to me offered me a tissue. It was such an uplifting story to watch and experience. BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR Without a doubt, the best movie I saw this year was "Booksmart." I loved "Avengers: Endgame" and many of the other summer blockbusters, but nothing will compare to the experience of seeing "Booksmart." It is the story of two high school seniors, Amy (Kaitlyn Deaver) and Molly (Beanie Feldstein), who have gone through high school with the sole goal of getting into a great college. When they find out that the kids who partied are also attending prestigious colleges in the fall, they agree to get one night of partying in before graduation. There are very few times when I am sitting in a theater when I realize I am watching something special. The most notable examples from the past few years is another movie starring Kaitlyn Deaver, "Short Term 12" and "Knives Out." I walked out of the theater and instantly wanted to see it again. I consider the fact that I only saw this twice in the theater a disappointment. This movie is incredible and deserves all the love and praise it has gotten. There is a lot to love, but it all hinges on the relationship between Amy and Molly. These two are best friends and are so close that Molly's parents believe they are dating. Deaver and Feldstein are the heart and soul of this movie; if you don't believe in their relationship, this movie fails. They play off one another so well. As amazing as the two leads are, there is a performance that is the very definition of scene stealing. Billie Lourd, who plays Gigi, is phenomenal. I cannot even begin to describe who Gigi is and what Lourd does with the character-it has to be seen. BIGGEST DISSAPOINTMENT I've talked a lot about how "The Lion King" is one of my favorite moves of all time, so I was looking forward to the remake with cautious optimism. I was incredibly let down. I knew it was going to be a pointless remake, and it was never going to live up to the original. I was prepared to say, it was fine; I was not prepared for what I watched. When I say this was a soulless cash grab, I mean that in more ways than one. First and foremost, it had nothing to add to the original. I enjoyed "The Jungle Book" when it was remade a few years ago (by John Favreau, who directed this), and he expanded upon the original (at least of what I remembered of the original) in that. I was looking forward to that aspect of the remake, and it just wasn't there. The words "soulless cash grab" has another meaning in this context. The characters had no soul. The best example of this is the scene where Mufasa dies. There is a shot of Simba reacting to it, and the emotion to the scene is not there because the character has dead eyes. In an attempt to make things look realistic, they took out the ability of the eyes to express emotion. That shot in the original animated version is so impactful, and you can see the pain in Simba's eyes as he watches his father die saving him. That is a shot that has stayed with me all these years later, and to see it butchered in favor of "realism." is awful. WORD FOR 2020 I've even come up with my word for the year; happy. If you'll allow me to get a little personal here, but I was angry for a very long time. It's hard for me to know when it started, my best guess is that it began when the JCC showed me the door. The profession I loved was making me angry, bitter, cynical, and despite my best efforts, I couldn't get away from those feelings. I kept taking teaching jobs because I loved it even though it was destroying me. It has taken a new job and a different position to make me see this. I was never meant for the pressures of a classroom. Those stresses were not ones I handled well. The problems of student behavior, planning and executing lessons, and juggling the myriad of things that classroom teachers do daily are not the problems I deal with well. That is what this job as an Interventionist has given me. It has taken away all the classroom stresses and left me with the stuff I love. Maybe it's my personality, maybe its the ADHD. I'm going to do more things to make me happy. I've gotten a head start on that. Over the summer, I started living on my own, and it has been freeing. I don't come home to anyone else's drama or other people's messes. If there are dishes in the sink, they are MY dishes. When I got my new job, I treated myself to season tickets to Shea's 2019-2020 Broadway Season. I have, thus far, seen Mean Girls and the aforementioned "Come From Away." I also saw two of their special engagements, "Jersey Boys" and "Les Miserables," the latter of which was absolutely spectacular. I've let go of a lot of negative this year, and I'm focusing on the positive. I'm in such a great place that I need to focus on doing things to keep me there.

"Life"- An 'Alien' knock-off for sure... but a decent 'Alien' knock-off. It's appropriately gooey, gory and thrilling and never mistakes itself for being more than it is.
You can't keep a good classic down. Nor evidently, can you keep others from trying to replicate the success of a classic for years- even decades- after. This is especially true about the 2017 Sci- Fi/Thriller release "Life" from director Daniel Espinosa. Yes, for all intents and purposes, the film is very much aping off of one of the great classics of the genre... that of course being Ridley Scott's phenomenal 1979 release "Alien." From tone to character to basic structure, Espinosa and the wicked screen writing duo of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick craft a film that is either lovingly paying homage to the iconic Scott picture... or drastically ripping it off. Either way, it isn't the first 'Alien' knock-off... nor will it be the last. The best we can hope for it is that it ended up being one of the better 'Alien' knock- offs... Thankfully enough... I'd say it is. Yes, despite a few major problems with the pacing and a few questionable choices with the structure, I found "Life" to be completely entertaining and a lot of fun for what it was. Sure, it won't win any Oscars... but there's nothing wrong with a good, old-fashioned thrill-fest. It's got all the goo and gore you'd expect from a deep-space creature-feature, and boasts a massive budget and top-notch talent on-screen to boot. It honestly reminded me of an old nostalgic favorite in that respect- the Kevin Bacon thriller "Hollow Man", which similarly boasted a big budget and big talent for what amounted to a cheesy slasher movie. A lot of people complained (just as a lot of people are complaining about "Life"), but they seemed to miss the point... these movies are meant to be pure, visceral fun. Not mind-bending or even all that complex. And in that respect, I think "Life" works quite well. In the near future, a six-person crew aboard the International Space Station intercepts a probe returning from the planet Mars with soil samples for study. Soon enough, it is discovered that a microscopic organism exists within the soil- the first real sign of alien life beyond Earth. After managing to revive the organism (nicknamed "Calvin"), it begins to grow and display signs of intelligence and thought. However, things take a turn for the worse when Calvin escapes his "habitat" and begins to act in an aggressive and defensive fashion... eventually beginning to kill off members of the team in order to feed. And so, the remaining crew must work together to try and kill this martian beast before it is able to reach Earth... I really gotta hand it to the cast- they all knock it out of the park, despite the film zooming through their establishment a little too quickly. Our leads Rebecca Ferguson and Jake Gyllenhaal are a lot of fun, and both are given just enough motivation to help you care about their characters. Supporting roles by the likes of Ryan Reynolds, Hiroyuki Sanada, Ariyon Bakare and Olga Dihovichnaya are all very well-played and are given just enough quirks and defining features that you actually do kinda feel bad when the creature starts to attack them one-by-one. It's a case of good casting overcoming a few missteps in the narrative. The script by Reese and Wernick is quite entertaining, and they show that they have a knack for suspense and thrills. I've been seeing a lot of reviews nit-picking the minute details or trying to poke holes in the logic... but you gotta remember: these are the same guys who wrote "Deadpool." If you think they're trying to deliver a hard-hitting and cerebral drama set to the backdrop of a Gothic horror picture, you're clearly not in the right mindset. They know exactly what they're trying to do... pay homage to Sci-Fi classics like the aforementioned "Alien" while delivering as many jumps and disgusting displays of bodily- fluids as possible. It's not tongue- in-cheek per se, but it's also not 100% trying to be overtly realistic. They're crafting a fun movie... not a complex one. The tones and style that Espinosa injects into the film are incredibly invaluable. It's a very competently made movie, and there's a lot of really fun visual nuances and nifty camera-work on display that lends much to the proceedings. From an opening sequence told almost entirely in a single complex (and breathtaking) shot, to more subtle moments like allowing the camera to linger on the various crewmembers as they cry at their terrible situation in one genuinely touching scene... there's a lot of really smart moves being made in the storytelling thanks to top-notch visual guidance. I'm not overly familiar with Espinosa's filmography... but if he's able to do so much creative and original work with what is essentially an homage-picture, I'd keep my eye on him in the future. All that being said, however... there's some issues I cannot deny. And they do bring the whole thing down a few points. Despite allowing the story to truck along quickly, the pacing does rob some much-needed moments with the characters and I would have liked to have seen some more development in the supporting roles. A few of the "scares" are telegraphed from a mile away, which annoyed me a bit. And I do think that despite aiming to pay homage to the classics... the film could have subverted expectations a bit more than it ended up doing. It would have helped it stand alone a bit more. But in the end, for what amounts to a fun-albeit-generic creature- feature in space, "Life" is very much an enjoyable time. It's not going to break new ground and I certainly wouldn't call it a great film. But it's more than adequate and I know I had a lot of fun seeing it on the big-screen. I give it a pretty-good 7 out of 10.
