you ever think of sonic growing up in the woods alone and fighting eggman regularly since the day he was 8/9 years old and then think about how he’s been raising tails since he was a 4 year old fox kit. like sonic not having a childhood and making sure that tails does no matter what because he knows what it’s like to have to be an adult before you’re ready.
knuckles losing his childhood to protecting the master emerald and growing up alone on angel island with a destiny and burden he isn’t even old enough to comprehend yet. meeting tails and while he’s not sold on sonic yet, he knows he’s never going to let this child experience the same crushing demands that he had placed on him by a tribe that wasn’t even alive to explain.
shadow only ever getting to experience fleeting moments of childhood when he’s with maria, and spending every other moment being tested and experimented on by scientists and doctors for a cause far beyond both him and his sister. meeting tails, who has grown up surrounded by danger and violence and war yet remains soft and kind and gentle despite thanks to his older sibling. shadow thinking about the trauma he had already experienced ten times over by the time he was tails’ age and feeling just burning hot jealousy and rage for the childhood he never got to have, the only source of peace and happiness he had being shot in the head in front of him while he was stuck behind a wall of glass. shadow meeting tails and wondering why he gets everything he never got to have.

Movie Amy Rose 06
Context:
What if Amy gets introduced through the sonic 06 plot line kinda…
I don’t really remember much from the 06 plot so to save me the headache and to keep this short (hopefully) I’ll highlight some things I would add to a loose adaptation of 06.
Two parter- I may not remember everything from sonic 06 but I do know there was a lot going on so yeah they’re gonna need this movie to be at least two parts
Elise and Amy from another world/planet- so for this story Amy would be Elise's adopted sister. Shortly after the flames of disaster were sealed within Elise, her kingdom had some concerns on how to keep the young princess happy to prevent the destruction that would awake from her tears. Those worries come to an end when a neighboring kingdom presents a pink hedgehog for the princess to keep as a pet. Elise was appalled by the idea, dismissing it entirely, stating that the pink hedgehog will be her little sister instead. Since then pink hedgehog, Amy Rose lives with the princess doing her best to keep Elise happy despite disagreeing with Elise not being allowed to cry. Things are going well with the two sisters until the kingdom is attacked by a known entity that’s after Princess Elise. Having no choice, but to flea the princess and Amy escape to earth to find help and refuge.
Sliver is a time traveler that was tip off by mephiles to hunt down sonic to save his future
No blaze… maybe- depending on if blaze is introduced before or after this story.
Amy is the one to challenge silver ideas- basically those scenes with Silver and Amy bonding and her defending Sonic when silver attacks him. Have Silver question if sonic is the trigger and if it is right to kill one innocent person to save the world.
Time travel shenanigans with silver and shadow
Shadow’s story (plus team dark maybe)
Sonamy no Sonic x Elise- I think everyone can agree that Sonic x Elise was weird and it most definitely be even weirder in live action. So let Elise be Amy’s wing girl while Sonic and Elise are just besties.
Amy is Sonic and Elise therapy hedgehog- Amy would definitely not approve of Sonic and Elise bottling up their negative emotions( even if Elise has a good reason for it) so she would try to help with that.
Amy takes the hit from mephiles instead of Sonic- Amy’s “death” triggers both Elise and Sonic. Elise tears release the flame of disaster while sonic rage and sorrow poisons the chaos emeralds (and himself) with dark energy. This is what mephiles need for his plans. (Don’t worry Amy is saved by the power of sisterly love instead of romantic love and the chaos emeralds).
Maybe super Amy alongside super sonic, shadow, and silver- I know it might be too much to ask but a girl can dream😭
Time reset- Although I hate time reset endings (especially after the troll hunter movie😡) I think it would be neat if they pull a “your name” ending between Sonic and Amy. Despite not remembering each other they find their way back to each other again. And maybe Elise and Amy could have a bittersweet goodbye with the time reset erasing their meeting too.

What's your big opinion on every Sonic character don't skip any detail
Dude, do you know how many sonic characters are there?
Like a lot. So im gonna keep it on the main ones LOLL
Maybe i'll add to this tho. We'll see.
Tumblr media
HERE WE GO!!
Sonic: He's my favourite character of all times! Such a funky fella. I love his way of thinking, (as in everyone deserves second chances and freedom is important) and of acting, with the whole attitude. He gives me a sense of freedom that i haven't felt from any other media at all! Its quite impressive honestly. I could write pages upon pages on how Sonic as a character is like the peak of literature in my eyes, but this post would get way too long. In summary tho, i like almost every aspect of Sonic the Character.
Tails: The baby! I also really love tails! I think his role as a sideckick is very endearing, and is a great balance to sonic in all possible ways. One problem with modern Tails, though. He's portrayed as a coward. And like??? That's not who he is?? Like C'mon sega.
Knuckles: He don't chuckle!! Final part of team Sonic, and Sonic's first rival! I really like the knucklehead. But as is the norm, Sega screwed him up badly on Boom. I despise that they're supposed to be the same Knuckles. Because they're not. I like Boom Knuckles, as his own character, but granted, Boom is an acquired taste.
Amy: Honorary part of team sonic! I love her! Mostly on the IDW Comics. I think they handle her excellently in there. I know that Amy is a hated character by the fanbase because most say that her only purpose is to be the "girl character love interest" and i can agree up to some point in some games, but in IDW she's sooo much better. We stan IDW Sonic.
Shadow: Yet another case of Sega making character assassination. Shadow's like, one of the most complex sonic characters there are, If not THE most complex one. And i love that! Though im very sad that Sega hasn't been able to replicate that SA2 Magic quite as well. Will SonicXShadow (heh) give him justice? Stay tuned.
Rouge: MY GIRL!! Ok so controversial opinion, Rouge's my second favourite sonic character, just because i think its hilarious that she (once) was the leader of team Dark. So She commanded a killing machine and An alien experiment. What a girlboss! 10/10 Character.
Omega: Gotta be honest, not much of an omega fan. But i really like his dynamic w/Rouge and Shadow. It's pretty sweet that they become friens :)
Cream: The other baby! I think she's the sweetest character. Like fr. I really want to see her more often on the games! Though i get why in recent games she hasn't appeared. Suddenly the adventures got way too serious. Still want her back in the games though!
Blaze: Fire princess! I fr am so salty that she isn't as much in the games. Like, what gives? She's such a successful character (With good reason btw) and you arent like, putting her in the stage?? outrageous. But yeah, i really Like Blaze. Her contrast and similarities with sonic are great! They make a great duo too.
Silver: The sweetest most unhinged boi in the sonic canon. I find it very funny that in his first appearance he was all angsty and stuff, but now he's full on optimism and sunshine. I love the juxtaposition on that behalf. Boi is cute but he can mess you up.
The Chaotix: Oh i love the found family trope. Espio's my fave for sure. He's the funny ninja, what else do you want? Though Vector and Charmy are great too. Vector has such a cool ass dad vibe. And Charmy... is Charmy. if yk yk.
AAAAND I think i'll leave it there. Should i include someone else? lmk.
Thanks for the ask!

Sonic Prime Extended Universe HCs - New Yoke
so we know that the Shatterverses aren’t “real,” full universes, just distorted reflections of the Prime that aren’t fully-formed, hence why there’s only like 6 people and two locations. However fucking around is fun fun fun so I’m just gonna do a post for each universe dissecting where the other Sonic Universe characters would be and what they’d be up to. Please for the love of GOD add your own ideas/hcs in the comments I want us all to melt into creativity mush.
NEW YOKE
Team Chaotix are lowkey rebels. They pretend to be model citizens while aiding Rebel and Renegade’s forces from the sidelines. Well, when I say “they,” I mean all of them but Charmy. He is noooot the subtle type so they just hide him inside. This keeps him alive but his zoomies are insane. House has been on fire at least twice.
You guys know Fiona’s backstory in Archie where she was besties with Mighty and Ray and they tried to revolt and it didn’t end well? Yeah I feel like that literally happens 1-1 here; Mighty and Ray think Fiona is dead, she’s digging her way out of isolation. The boys are on the run and NOT having a good time.
The other 1-1 is Whisper’s backstory. oops
Tangle and Jewel are in the Resistance; Tangle’s a fighter obvsly, Jewel works espionage/organization/keeping Tangle from dying.
SatAM Freedom Fighters are literally just doing the same shit. However without Sonic they’re missing their most crucial team member (the Distraction™) so they have to be way more sneaky and careful. then again if there IS a New Yoke!Sonic he could very well be here so maybe they’re all just vibin
StC Freedom Fighters are here too; their resistance is way smaller and they can’t do a lot but they are doing their BEST okay?? Porker and Tekno are making some kickass robots and Shortfuse is a huge win for them. Johnny was their main fighter and uh. well. right before the Sonic Incident™ he kinda got blasted just like in canon. Sorry buddy
Vanilla and Cream are hiding the chao in their basement. Literally, they dug out a basement to function as a makeshift chao garden so that the little guys wouldn’t get killed by the mass roboticization. It’s not going too well because chao need clean water to survive and there’s only so much they can get. They’re not involved with the rebellion though; they’re doing all they can to keep themselves and their chao alive, and without meeting Amy or Sonic they’ve never made contact with the main cast. Perhaps, similar to Advance 2, they make contact when Vanilla gets captured for roboticization and Cream teams up with the rebels to rescue her?
Tikal peekin out of the ME cause she hasn’t seen Knuckles in a while: what the fuck what the fuck what the fuck
If we assume Robotnik has control of the Continents too, I like to think the Sonic X humans are running the rebellions over there. Chris has built Helen a rocket-powered wheelchair with guns on it and she is a little bit too happy about it
Elise is under a ton of pressure to keep her kingdom alive with the new dictatorship; they’re constantly checking in on her and roboticizing “criminals” in her kingdom and she hates it but if she objects they all die. Not having a good time!!
If Blaze is in this dimension she’s got a bit more freedom than Elise what with her superpowers; I feel like she probably has isolated her kingdom from the rest of the world while desperately trying to defeat oncoming invaders all by herself with her fire powers (+ with Silver maybe?). One day she goes too far and passes out, only to be saved by little Marine who encourages her to keep fighting.
Zeti peekin down at the planet below cause they’ve been seeing a lot of explosions lately: lol nice
actually Zeti would be a HUGe threat if they decided to invade. these bitches control electronics and you know what 90% of the planet is now
Sticks is THRIVING. Girl expected a robo-pocalypse for years and it finally came and now she’s rescued a few stragglers and they have a mini-civilization in her bunker in the woods. She often leads attacks on the robots just to fuck with the Council and also cause she thinks it’s fun.
Babylon Rogues aren’t on the Council’s side but they’re also not really helping the rebellion. They just run around stealing shit like they normally do
Surge and Kit happen after the Sonic Incident™; Starline tries to recreate Sonic’s power and it goes. about as well as you’d expect.
and finally, OUR BOTS:
the Edgy™ Scratch and Grounder concepts from Underground production are Real™
the reason we don’t see Orbot and Cubot here imo is that they’re running factories in farther areas. Not well but they’re doing an adequate enough job they haven’t been scrapped yet
Snively is also running a factory somewhere, but his obsequious nature might get him roboticized just out of annoyance one day.
Breezie is considered their most dangerous robot. She’s a shapeshifter and can disguise herself as a normal mobian in order to get information on the Resistance; they’re constantly terrified that anybody could be Her.
Robotnik JR is here too, also a shifter; he’s made to be a robotic duplicate of the Chaos Council for certain public appearances in case of assassination attempts.
Decoe and Bocoe I don’t see as being here, but I dO see Bokkun as being WAY scarier than funny here. He is a detonation-bot and he’s damn good at his job and he’s a scary lil gremlin guy
Hope lost most of her family and is living under the Chaos Council’s ““care””. She absolutely hates them and is trying to aid the Resistance, but she’s under constant observation and thus can make no actual contact with them. Every now and again she’s been able to delete a file or turn off a camera. There’s no telling how many of them she’s saved with these small acts. They don’t know she exists.
Belle and Sage are not here... yet.

On the topic of Blaze being overhyped, I'm amused because for the alleged Singular Butt-Kick Female of the cast, she doesn't do a lot. Rouge and Amy are far more proactive and altogether present than Blaze has ever been, to give an example, and I'd say the only thing Blaze has "over" them is a Super form shown on-screen. (and didn't Classic Amy get one in Superstars?) It's also not as if Blaze is somehow so much more strong or capable than either Hell, Rouge always remains in control while Blaze can lose her temper, and Amy always remains the heart who interacts with people while Blaze tends to be far less of a team player. Funnily enough, even in IDW Blaze barely does anything, by virtue of not being present for most of the stories. What's so butt-kicking about being the recipient of Sonic's bedroom eyes? An in-character Sonic could have comforted Silver just as well as she did, she bailed the Neo Diamond Cutters out of Eggman's city with a whole slew of other heroes... so what is there in IDW to be so hyped for about her, other than a single appearance of Burning Blaze?
I'm still boggled by the amount of sexism crammed in such a small paragraph lol <- I love having sources on hand <3
Rouge is extremely competent. She works for the President, she managed to infiltrate the ARK, she's physically strong, she's the leader of Team Dark... but her sexiness somehow nullifies everything? She can't "kick butt" if she has a big chest? Flynn could have said that she's shady, or not quite on the heroes' team, to justify why he doesn't count her, but no he went straight to slutshaming. People have been cancelled for less.
"Cream shouldn't be involved because she's six years old" what you think doesn't matter, Cream has been involved and has been successful ever since her first appearance, and you don't get to ignore that. Clearly you think that women are either whores or badasses so I ain't trusting your opinion :\
And I can't even refute Amy being "all over the place" because I don't understand if he's calling her crazy or Wildly Inconsistent™. But considering that she took multiple games to become fully independent and capable of keeping up with Sonic, his dismissal is even more unfair.
You know what it looks like? That Blaze is the only one worth praising because she's like Sonic. Her abilities are very similar to Sonic's, with her pseudo-Spin Dash and boost and whatnot - not like, say, Amy who is slow and relies on her hammer. On top of that, while I wouldn't call Blaze masculine, she's not quite as feminine as the other three. Add to this that Tangle's personality, especially before she lost all of her braincells, was basically a genderflipped version of how Flynn sees Sonic, and I can't help going 🤔 at the implications.
Anyway all girls are great and y'all (especially Flynn) are just mean

oh btw i don't think i ever explained the reason why egghog shadow is such a maker compared to canon shadow!!!! the reason is sad. sorry. also this ended up being 80% eggman tangent. you're welcome
shadow is the brother that spends the most time around eggman, and that's been the case since he was a baby. when he was a small child, it was because he's a test tube baby with dubious dna and experimental chaos powers that had never been proven successful thus far. eggman has ran and continues to run extensive testing on his chaos powers, senses, and tolerances (or lack thereof).
shadow is also eggman's first child. eggman has a special sort of simultaneous attachment and bitterness about it. he's spent so much time and energy researching shadow, this valuable anomaly hand-crafted by his grandfather, and he's come away with many valuable lessons and pieces of information. but he's bitter because he doesn't like the parenting aspect of this situation.
i've said this before, but eggman has always thought of the egghogs as tools or objects, not his children. he only refers to them as his children for PR reasons and to make them think he loves them. he hates that despite his best efforts they still have some semblance of free will he can't scrub away.
of course, that's part of the thrill, too. we've seen time and time again in several different canons that eggman loves this game, seeing when and where the people he recruits will slip and try to outsmart him or overthrow him or decide to leave him. he likes the give and take of it. he even makes his robots defiant to always have someone to take down a peg. it's fun. so he keeps the boys and watches them wrestle each other for the last ice cream sandwich with his seat reclined and popcorn in hand
there's just no 100% sure way to get rid of that defiant spark in people. recruits for a few weeks or months or even a few years, that's one thing. but the boys are a lifelong commitment. he's made them strong, stronger than they could have ever been on their own. he's made them smart and calculating and perceptive. that could be turned against him, and unlike an anomaly like the neo metal amy incident, there's no backspacing any code to fix an insurrection.
it's thrilling. it's so much fun. he hates it. no matter what, they're his boys.
he keeps them on a tighter leash than all of his robots combined; he's especially concerned with keeping shadow close. sonic is hard-headed and impossible to change now that his twisted ideologies have had time to set; silver is meek and afraid of disappointing his family. it isn't hard to keep them on track.
shadow has stayed hard to read, and eggman senses that something's going on in that head of his. so shadow stays right by his side, makes eggman a latte with steamed austrian goat milk every morning, polishes the egg mobile, and most importantly for what was supposed to be the actual point of this post, acts as his assistant on projects.
all of the egghogs have spent a lot of time working with eggman on builds and schemes, but shadow clocks in higher than his brothers by a significant margin. he's the oldest, so to him go the trade secrets and the "mature" complex tasks of building boss robots and such.
plus, shadow is the most physically strong and sturdy of the boys, and he’s the most quiet. he doesn’t voice his needs or complain. he doesn’t try to goad eggman into conversation. he only speaks when spoken to while they’re in the workshop, and only in a short, truncated way to keep eggman from lashing out at him. he’s precise, detail-oriented, and follows instructions well. he only does what he's told, he doesn't add any of his own ideas or "fixes" to projects. he’s a good assistant. he would make an excellent robot.
shadow stays deeply afraid of authority figures for a long time.

Big! Or Storm! Or Big! Or Storm!
Tumblr media
BOTH IT IS THEN
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BIG FIRST!! First Impression: (me at around tween years) Why do you exist??? What is the point of your character?? are you some kinda bad joke?
Impression now: I LOVE THIS GENTLE FISHERMAN BOY UNDERRATED AND ADORABLE. FRIEND-SHAPED. ONE OF THE TOP FAVOURITES //BABBLES OF LOVE
Favourite moment: Honestly I just tend to love the little moments where he's just vibing and being adorable. Although I do love the occasional moments of him just showing how powerful he really can be if he wanted to. Like when he stopped uh... Silver Sonic? One of those metal sonics with his bare hands!
Idea for a story: Well, he is included in a few of my AU's but there is ONE story for him alone that I'm trying to work on... trying. Basically combines him and Werehog lmao Mostly exploring how he'd handle a similar condition and exploring his perspective and his own mindset.
Unpopular Opinion: I don't think Big is as dumb as he lets on! Sure that might seem a bit silly, but honestly, I don't believe hes' totally dumb, sure he doesn't seem too bright, and his carefree and relaxed attitude adds to it. But I like to think he just... thinks about things in a different manner.
Favourite Relationship: Im' assuming this means canon relationships cause i dont' wanna go down the ship lane for this but I honestly love seeing his relationship with Amy and Cream. He's like a Big Brother figure to them and it's ADORABLE!!
Favourite Headcanon: That he's neuro-divergent and on the autism spectrum. <3 And fish are his special interest that he can ramble on to a shocking degree. Struggles to talk a lot in conversation but if you talk to him or ask him a fish-related question. Que in really thorough rambling.
Tumblr media
NOW STORM (i don't really keep up with the idw comics but LOOK AT THAT FACE) First impression: Um... just a big dumb guy... i guess. Okay... not much I can think to do with you so just //shoves into corner
Impression now: Underrated and has so much potential. HE'S A HIMBO AND H'ES TRYING HIS BEST. love to play around with him in my AU's and making him more interesting.
Favourite moment: I love his silly clumys little moments like BARGING into Jet's office or pulling the silliest goofiest faces in the comics from what I've seen. He just makes me giggle. One moment that's always made me laugh was the face he made when he was about to punch that Elder Zeti thgthgfh
Story idea: Tbh i've actually love to explore how he would be y'know. On his own. I know the closest I've gotten to a story idea was a backstory for him. I imagine he's older than Jet and Wave and serves as a big brother figure to them (Even if it doesn't seem like it) but it just makes me wonder... what if they were in a scenario where he was older and had to take care of them while they were still young and had to do what he could to get by and support them.
Unpopular opinion: Similarly to Big. I believe there's more to him than being a dumb musclehead. I like to believe he has more than he lets on (intentionally or not). And I actually think that out of all of the Rogues, he'd be the first to give up the thieving lifestyle if given the option.
Favourite Relationship: Honestly since we see him mostly only interact with the other Rogues I get interested seeing how he interacts with anyone outside of the Rogues. I know his interactions with Amy in one of the Riders game was interesting but I don't remember a lot of it.
Favourite Headcanon: That he's actually really into food and out of all the Rogues is the best at cooking and his one of his hidden talents although he doens' think he's THAT great. The kitchen is his safe space and he refuses to let Wave and Jet cause chaos in there. "YOU GO TO YOUR OFFICE AND YOU GO TO YOUR WORKSHOP THIS IS MY SPACE!"
Bonus favourite headcanon is that Storm is the older cousin of Wave and Jet, or are siblings (half, step or adopted idk you get the idea)

top 5 tv episodes? top 5 songs (currently or Of All Time)??
top 5 tv episodes currently, in no particular order, things I've watched or rewatched recently:
1 sharp objects series finale 2 star trek strange new worlds s02e03 3 community s01e23 4 succession series finale 5 black sails s02e01
top 5 tv episodes ever, in no particular order 1 doctor who s01e09 father's day 2 btvs, s02e22, becoming part 2 3 twin peaks s02e22 beyond life and death 4 hannibal s02e13 mizumono 5 the west wing s02e22 two cathedrals
(also, @sunbelieving I loved both your asks (all four of your asks?) but writing the tv stuff took a lot out of me and I just do not have it in me to do the same for songs, which I think might be even more challenging. I might return to it later, however)
thinky-thoughts hidden below
sharp objects series finale
This is one of those cases where it's taken me years to get around to finally watching something I'm convinced I'll like. My life is like that, it makes no sense. It feels weird to single out one episode of a whole that is so strongly one thing, but the finale is where everything culminates & the first two thirds had my stomach in knots. The ending reveal montage was brilliant and gutting. Amy Adams and Eliza Scanlen are forever good in my books on the strength of the finale.
star trek strange new worlds s02e03
Love La'an and what she gets to do in this episode. It's both classic TOS shenanigans in a way that I thoroughly enjoy & it's also character developing in a way TOS arguably could not have been, as that was not really the tv landscape back in the day. I found her attachment to Kirk both sweet and heartbreaking, and there were some moments along the way I thought were just excellent fun, like Kirk getting them money by playing chess, because Kirk plays chess with his first officer in every universe, and La'an and Kirk choosing the same outfit when they go to the shop and need regular Earth clothing. Adelaide Kane put in a good performance as the guest star, and not only was the plot fun, but it also managed to advance some character arcs, primarily La'an's, but also Pelia's. All good in my book.
community s01e23 modern warfare
I accidentally rewatched a few episodes of Community yesterday and just had such incredible amounts of fun with this and some other episodes. The ability of the cast and crew to work across genres and plotlines and tropes and still have convincing characters and even character arcs, as well as relationship arcs, is still a brilliant accomplishment in my books. Also, early Jeff/Britta, what a wonderful sitcom disaster.
succession series finale
Look, I am not immune to siblings and tragedy. I would really love to say I have something to add to the immeasurable amounts of Succession discourse, but I am not sure I do. The final sibling argument scene wherein Kendall, for a shot at the throne, takes back his confession of murder (manslaughter probably?) which was what jump started his patching-things-up-with-the-siblings and was arguably the moment they were all most there for each other in the whole series? Horrifying, beautiful, stupid, inevitable. Tragic.
black sails s02e01
I have decided to cheer for all thing queer and fun and my friends that I am watching this with are both highly into this as well, so it's not necessarily the episode itself that I enjoyed so much, as it was my experience of watching it, but I treasure it. Also, I cannot believe I am getting attached to John Silver of all fictional characters in all the pirate gin joints, but what can you do, I am weak, someone save me.
top tv episodes of all time, in no particular order
Honestly, there's like an extremely slim chance that this is actually my top 5 episodes of tv ever, but I'm really trying here & will try to explain my thinky thoughts. Having written the list and given it a bit of a thing, there's definitely a theme here of themes being developed & brought to escalation, plotlines being finished, tragic and horrible choices being made, high stakes, and (the least in the case of the doctor who episode) the landscape of the show and of what the show is/means being changed forever by the episode.
doctor who s01e09 father's day
Listen, I know. I hear you. I want to say ANYTHING basically with Amy. Amy is forever my favorite Doctor Who companion. But on my recent Doctor Who re-watch I discovered depths of appreciation I did not know I had for Father's Day. I love Rose's self-centeredness, and Nine's anger and then angered resignation to it, which inevitably ends in honest forgiveness. I always cry over Nine's speech to the young couple.
DOCTOR: How did all this get started? STUART: Outside the Beatbox Club, two in the morning. SARAH: Street corner. I'd lost my purse, didn't have money for a taxi. STUART: I took her home. DOCTOR: Then what? Asked her for a date? SARAH: Wrote his number on the back of my hand. STUART: Never got rid of her since. My dad said. SARAH: I don't know what this is all about, and I know we're not important. DOCTOR: Who said you're not important? I've traveled to all sorts of places, done things you couldn't even imagine, but you two. Street corner, two in the morning, getting a taxi home. I've never had a life like that. Yes. I'll try and save you.
tears
(But also, you know. AMY POND.)
btvs becoming part 2
Listen, I know. There's so much of BTVS that's dear to me, and it's hard to pick any one thing and be happy with your choice. But I recently rewatched the first two seasons and was surprised at how much I felt during Becoming. Even as someone who is not extremely attached to Angel/Buffy, the setup and the tragedy of it is beautiful, imo, & SMG's terrific beyond words. And I am a sucker for high stakes. Also, whatever one thinks of Xander's not-telling-Buffy thing, as someone who's just watched s2 of Warrior Nun, DEAR SISTERS IN CHRIST, do I wish someone working on that show was not afraid of having a character make such a radical move. And not just in a show like Succession, where it does not weigh the same, because everyone's choices are horrible exactly all of the time, but in a show about teenagers, super-powered and not, just honest-to-god trying to prevent apocalypses. Not to mention the whole Angelus arc leading us to Buffy killing him. And the fallout from this arguably follows everyone in the main cast until the end of the show. Also, the No weapons…no friends…no hope. Take all that away and what's left? Me. Gets me every time.
twin peaks s2 finale
Still contains the single most terrifying scene I have seen in my life. Honestly, I don't even want to talk about it. Imagine the worst thing that could possibly happen in a show that is ostensibly about the struggle between good and evil and then that exact thing happening. It is horrifying in a visceral, existential way. I don't wanna talk about it, alright.
hannibal season 2 finale
Not me getting attached to fictional men, noooooooo. Why. Also, it's starting to look, as I am writing this, that I am way more into tragedy than I would normally say about myself, and I am not sure what to do with that. There's something so beautifully harrowing and horrifying about the obviously inevitable fallout from Will going through with his planned betrayal and then not being able to actually do it. Hannibal making a family for them and then taking it away. Abigail murdered by a father, again. Alana betrayed, Jack betrayed, all of them relevant victims that in their own right that command BOTH Will and Hannibal's love and respect, but in other ways utterly meaningless because of how blind & careless Will, and Hannibal in particular, can be towards people that are not Will and Hannibal. "Falling in love with a god is not a death sentence. The story is only a tragedy if the god loves you back."
the west wing season 2 finale
The tragedy, the elation, the fucking putting of hands into pockets. YOU GET HOYNES. The Brothers In Arms needle drop to stand supreme to all other needle drops.
(also i apparently have a thing for s2 finales whatdoyoudo. I guess it makes sense to some degree, because shows need to take time to become themselves and then afterwards often they go into directions you don't like. season 2, obviously for me, statistically, is when the show has found itself - whatever the show is, it is that the most in season 2, seems to be my judgment.)

''Huh, looks like Cosmo Bridge isn't under attack… for once,'' Amy said in a sarcastic tone. It was afternoon and the group had split off in groups, deciding to cover Neos City in their search for Shadow. Amy and Minami took upon themselves to comb through all the areas Cosmo River passed through.
''I guess we're in luck… or not,'' Minami chuckled at Amy's remark at first, only to add the latter part in a more serious tone. ''It's kind of obvious Shadow has long left this area and I don't really think Cosmo Bridge has anything of significance to him.''
''You're right,'' Amy agreed, her eyes narrowing in thought. ''Maybe I should consult my tarot cards about Shadow's whereabouts. I mean, they were almost always correct, so far.''
''Maybe…'' Minami trailed off as she remembered something. ''Hey, Amy, do you remember the last time we consulted them?''
''You mean, the one about a looming shadow over a place of with a lot of green- ooooh…'' Amy trailed off as she realized the same thing as Minami. The two exchanged glances, a moment of silence between them. ''So, you think it may not have been about Metal Sonic or the lizard Irregular attacking Eden?''
''Honestly, it is still possible that it referred to both of them, but I want to also think that the 'looming shadow' part wasn't supposed to be only interpreted as a threat, but literally as a person,'' Minami replied. ''As Shadow the Hedgehog.''
''Now that I think about it, we didn't really think through the part with 'something of great importance','' Amy added. ''We kind of just let it fly over our heads.''
''Yeah, we were too focused on the 'place with a lot of greenery' bit, thinking it had to be Eden. As for why it had 'something of great importance'; that could be easily a reference to Makoto and Silver, since they're our friends and important to us,'' Minami added, crossing her arms. ''We didn't even bother to check Infinity Forest afterwards.''
''If we approach this from a different angle and consider Shadow being the one the tarot cards were talking about, as well as assume that he isn't in Neos City at all…'' Amy tapped her AR Visor, a holographic screen appearing in front of her and Minami. ''Hey, guys, is anyone close to Infinity Forest?''
''Yeah; Warren, Makoto, Silver and I are close to it,'' Tails answered. ''Why?''
''Minami and I think that Shadow might be there,'' Amy replied.
''How can you be so sure?'' Silver asked in a curious tone.
''Well, remember that fortune-telling we told you about?'' Minami asked, with Silver nodding. ''We think it may not only refer to what happened at Eden.''
''If that's so, we could scout the area,'' Silver suggested, only to notice the troubled look on Amy's expression. Minami noticed it too.
''Amy, what's wrong?'' she asked.
''I've just been wondering whether we should really rely on it. What if we were wrong?'' Amy asked. ''It is just going to be a waste of time.''
''But, you did say that they are usually correct,'' Makoto reminded her, with Amy looking unsure about how to answer.
''Not to mention, it makes sense for him to be there,'' Minami added, giving Amy an encouraging look. ''Infinity Forest is large enough to have places for him to hide and a good chunk of it is unexplored.''
''Minami is right,'' Warren said. ''Tails and Silver could do an aerial overview of Infinity Forest, while Makoto and I check on things from the ground. If we find anything, we'll call you.''
''Thanks, guys,'' Amy said, relieved to see that her friends got her back, with the holographic screen closing. She then turned to Minami. ''We'll continue our search here.''
''Sure thing!'' Minami gave her a thumbs up.
xXx
''Silver, do you see anything?''
''No, nothing so far. Although, this part of Infinity Forest is quite dense. It's hard to see anything,'' Silver told Makoto, floating above the forest via his psychokinetic powers. ''What about you Makoto?''
''No dice,'' Makoto replied. Silver looked over to Tails, who was hovering mid-air and talking to Warren. The holographic screen then disappeared, with Tails waving Silver over.
''Did you and Warren find anything?'' Silver asked as he flew over to Tails.
''Warren did, but I don't think it has anything to do with Shadow,'' Tails replied. ''Still, he said that we should come over and take a look.''
Silver nodded and followed the fox Irregular towards where Warren and Makoto were. They landed on the grass, noticing the two teenagers observing something beneath a tree. What Warren and Makoto had found appeared to be a purplish octahedral-shaped crystal with a faint blue light emitting from them. It appeared as if the crystal were growing out of the ground.
''What's that?'' Silver asked curiously, while Tails just grabbed the Miles Electric from his backpack and pointed it towards the crystal.
''It appears to be some kind of artificial crystal,'' Warren replied, crouching next to it, while Tails scanned it.
''You're right,'' Tails said as he stared at the screen of the Miles Electric, raising an eyebrow, his tails flicking. ''Although, it seems more like we're dealing with crystalized data.''
''What does that mean?'' Silver asked, his gaze turning from Tails towards the crystal, a little mesmerized by it. There was something hypnotic about the tiny blue light gleaming inside it.
''It means that- Don't touch it!'' Tails yelled suddenly when Silver reached out for the crystal in an attempt to pick it up.
''Agh!'' Silver hissed in pain, waving his hand as the crystal had burned him. The crystal itself suddenly shattered, the pieces vanishing.
''Silver, are you okay?'' Makoto asked his partner, with Silver holding up his hand. Curiously, there were no scorch marks.
''I'll be fine, but it feels like I had put my hand into open fire,'' Silver responded.
''That's strange,'' Tails said, rising an eyebrow and looking down at the Miles Electric. ''The scanner didn't indicate that it was hot at all, only that it was made of data; similarly to how items appear in AR Fields.''
''I'm sorry for breaking it,'' Silver glanced at Tails, a look of guilt on his expression. Tails shook his head, smiling.
''It's fine. After all, you had no idea this would happen and probably one of us would've picked it up to further examine it,'' Tails replied.
''I wonder how its possible for something like this to be here,'' Warren said. ''After all, this part of Infinity Forest has no AR Fields.''
''Maybe it was created by an Irregular,'' Makoto suggested. ''They are able to exist outside AR Fields for far longer than regular ARNavs.''
''Do you think it has something to do with Shadow?'' Silver asked. Makoto shook his head.
''No, but I sure hope that we won't have to deal with another Irregular alongside Shadow,'' he said.
xXx
Lucas, Sonic, Lily and Knuckles were meanwhile in Erekiteru, an area in Neos City well-known for being a major shopping district for video games, anime, manga, electronics and computer-related goods, and even featured cafés and arcades. They were currently walking around, Sonic having taken off earlier to check the district at his own pace. However, it was clear to them that they wouldn't find Shadow here.
''I sincerely doubt that is going to be anywhere in Erekiteru,'' Lily said. ''We should leave and try to check another place.''
''This may be the best course of action, but we still have to wait for the blue Hedgehog to arrive,'' Knuckles pointed out. Lily nodded, turning towards Lucas, who was looking around.
''Any ideas where we should go next?'' she asked.
''Honestly, I'm not sure,'' Lucas replied. ''We have absolutely no idea whether Shadow is even here in the city, and even if he is, it would be still hard to find him, unless he causes trouble.''
Suddenly, the three turned their heads to Sonic, who ran up to them, skidding to a halt. ''Any news about Shadow? Because I couldn't find him here.''
''No,'' Lucas replied, with Sonic's ears folding in disappointment. However, he had already figured that they wouldn't find them. ''We will have to change our approach.''
''What do you suggest?'' Knuckles asked.
''I…'' Lucas trailed off as he saw everyone giving him an anticipatory look. Admittedly, he may have been the one who called them to take action, but it wasn't really easy to come up with a new plan while only having access to limited information. He looked around, trying to figure out what they were supposed to do next. ''I'm not sure… Huh?''
Lucas, Sonic, Lily and Knuckles looked up when a huge holographic screen popped up, with an advertisement playing, announced by a squirrel ARNav.
''Tamago Corporation proudly presents our newest product – the Buddy Bot!'' the squirrel said proudly, stepping over to a robotic version of itself. ''Any ARNav knows that they cannot survive for too long outside an AR Field, but with the Buddy Bot, an ARNav can easily be transferred into their new, robotic body in order to stay alongside their human companions for much longer periods of time.''
Sonic and Knuckles exchanged glances, both being a bit bemused regarding the advertisement, especially since it was directed specifically towards ARNavs. They were aware that the issue regular ARNavs often faced was finding themselves outside an AR Field and having their energy rapidly deplete until they were near deletion. Fortunately for Sonic and Knuckles, as Irregulars, they didn't have to deal with problem, but that didn't mean that they didn't understand the struggles regular ARNavs would face.
''The Buddy Bot…'' Lily hummed as she observed the holographic screen vanishing, then turned towards her friends. ''The Tamago Corporation really comes up with all kinds of weird stuff.''
''I don't think it is that weird,'' Lucas responded. ''Someone would eventually try to come up with a way to allow ARNavs to stay outside AR Fields, and Tamago Corporation is well-known for its innovations in the robotics field.''
''I'm more curious about who thought calling their company Egg Corporation was a good idea,'' Sonic said, chuckling. Lucas and Lily exchanged amused looks, while Knuckles cracked a smile.
''In any case, I agree that we won't be able to find Shadow this way,'' Lucas said, drawing everyone's attention. ''I hate to say it though, but we should instead keep an eye out for the Irregular Hunters. They are the ones who get alerted whenever an Irregular appears, so they're our best chance for finding him.''
''Or, they might find another hedgehog that they'll mistake for Shadow,'' Sonic added in a snarky tone.
xXx
''So, you really cannot remember anything?'' Ferra asked. She and Touka were on their hoverboards, flying towards the Codex Research Facility, with Metal Sonic flying behind them. They had been silent for most of their trip, but Ferra couldn't shake off the morbid sense of curiosity concerning Touka's amnesia.
''My memories only come back to me in pieces and I need to make sense of them,'' Touka replied, her eyes narrowing. ''From what I do remember, I used to live at the Codex Research Facility, and Shadow too.''
''What were you doing there?'' Ferra asked curiously.
''That is something I would like to know as well,'' Touka replied.
Ferra hummed, only to add, ''Maybe you could also figure out how long it had been abandoned. To me, it looked like no one visited it in years.''
Touka didn't respond, reacting only when Metal Sonic flew ahead of her, alerting the two to the building claimed by nature. Touka and Ferra stopped in front of it, getting off of their hoverboards, with Touka staring at the facility, stunned.
''Do you remember anything?''
Touka was startled by Ferra's question, turning around and noticing the eager look on her expression. Her eyes narrowed. ''No, I don't. Only because I'm standing in front of the building doesn't mean I'll remember anything.''
''Maybe, but I'm sure you were hoping that would happen,'' Ferra replied, a smug smirk forming on her lips. Touka frowned, but didn't say anything, well aware that Ferra was right. ''Anyways, Metal and I had brought you here, now it's your turn to repay us.''
''Fine,'' Touka replied, sighing. ''The reason why Metal Sonic had lost was because Sonic used Lucas' BioEnergy to empower himself and spin-dashed into the former.''
''BioEnergy, seriously?'' Ferra gave her a stunned look. ''How is he not dead?''
''I have no idea.'' Touka shrugged. ''That is all I know, so I'll leave it to you two to figure out how it happened.''
Ferra and Metal Sonic observed Touka as she walked up to the entrance and vanished into the building, then turned towards each other. ''You know, we may have run into a dead end while trying to find the person who sent us that message, but we still learned something important. If Sonic and his partner have now figured out how to use BioEnergy as a power-up without suffering from any consequences, we should also find a way to control it.''
'Calculating probabilities…' Metal Sonic turned to Ferra. 'There is a 99% chance of you succumbing to BioEnergy loss.'
''Yeah, I know…'' Ferra trailed off, looking back at the building. She rose an eyebrow. ''I wonder if we should alert Sonic and his friends to this place as well.'' She turned back to Metal Sonic, who gave her a questioning look. ''If we let them know that Shadow is here, they might get into a battle and once Sonic's friends are distracted, you would get the opportunity to defeat him.'' Ferra then shrugged. ''Admittedly, one shouldn't recycle old plans, but Shadow is no ordinary Irregular. Besides, we could also observe how Sonic is able to utilize BioEnergy. Overall, it would be a win for us.''
'Your proposal is acceptable,' Metal Sonic responded. 'Chances of us winning would increase.'
Ferra grinned, hopping on her hoverboard. ''Then, let's get everyone else here.''
She and Metal Sonic flew up, hovering just above the clearing that surrounded the Codex Research Facility, when the front entrance had suddenly opened and they spotted Shadow leaving. He looked quite focused, not noticing either of them as he skated below them towards Neos City. Ferra and Metal Sonic exchanged glances, both having the same question on their mind. If Shadow was going towards Neos City, where was Touka? Did they somehow miss each other?
Ferra noticed Metal Sonic flexing his claw-like fingers, aware that her partner saw Shadow as a threat. He turned his head towards her, with Ferra shaking her head.
''He is not our problem, Metal.''
xXx
Shadow crouched down, observing the hallway below the rooftop window he had opened. Having climbed up the Cyber Exploration Labs building, he tried to find a proper entrance to infiltrate the place. From what he knew, despite being a government facility, CyExLabs was also open to the public in hopes to draw more people with an interest in scientific research. He had noticed that the security was very lax, and while there were guards, it appeared that they were more focused on a group o college students following their guide, a bee ARNav, as he explained some of the projects CyExLabs was working on.
If they are so inattentive, then nobody should notice my presence. Shadow waited for the hallway to empty, then jumped down, using his air shoes to cushion his fall and quickly speed down while also keeping an eye on the cameras. Despite the fact that he doubted he would ever return to this place, he still didn't want to be detected. The last thing he needed was to have security send the Irregular Hunters after him.
He leaned against the wall, waiting for two researchers, who were too immersed in their conversation to notice him, and quickly sped off. He spent most of the day researching where he could find the necessary data, and while he wasn't completely familiar with the place, he had a general idea where it might be, thanks to the data he got from Codex. There was an archive room in the lower part of the building, which would hold the information he needed.
After avoiding another ARNav, Shadow looked up at the plaques, relieved that he found the archive room and quickly slipped inside. His eyes narrowed as he saw the rows of books and machines, hardware servers that kept all of the previous research in-tact. Fortunately, no one was inside, so he walked up to a computer, taking out an USB stick he kept inside his glove. Shadow had to admit that he didn't expect that he would have easy access to all the archives, having expected some kind of barrier, but it was possible that the people here were too trusting, to naive. This was what would lead to their downfall.
Shadow eventually took the USB stick out, having transferred the data and deleting his search history. His ears twitched when he heard the door opening and someone walking into the room, that being another ARNav.
''Uh, hello? Is anyone here?'' the rabbit ARNav called out, her ears twitching as she scanned the room. Unknown to her, Shadow hid behind some machinery, holding his breath as the rabbit ARNav explored the room. ''I saw someone entering this room on the cameras, so it would be better for you to reveal yourself and come with me. I promise, you won't get into trouble, just… agh!''
The rabbit ARNav jumped back when Shadow suddenly skated past her, getting out of the room faster than she could register. He then charged through the corridors, abandoning any sense of stealth in favour of speed. Unfortunately, due to the ARNav's interference, he had left the computer on, meaning someone would obviously check on it and figure out what he might've been searching for. However, by that point, he would be back at Codex.
Shadow stopped at a corridor, leaning against the wall and taking deep breaths. He heard humans and ARNavs yelling in confusion over having an intruder in the building, but he tried to ignore it, focusing instead on the area outside CyExLabs. Then, he teleported outside the building, only to find himself being surrounded by Irregular Hunters. It appeared that someone from CyExLabs had called them to deal with him.
''Commander Loki, we have found the Irregular,'' one of the Hunters said after his scanner confirmed his suspicions. ''Unit Gamma requests immediate back-up.''
''Hmph.'' Shadow clenched his fist, his eyes narrowing as he stared at the Hunters. Did they really believe that they could stop the Ultimate Life Form?
xXx
''Guys! Shadow is at CyExLabs!'' Lily practically screamed the moment the holographic screen opened, her and Knuckles having reached out to the team.
''We just saw Irregular Hunters heading towards the building. We are close; should we engage?'' Knuckles asked.
''No,'' Lucas replied, hearing noises of confusion coming from the rest of the team. ''Listen, we need to first separate Shadow from the Hunters. If we are going to end up fighting him, I don't want us to have to deal with the Hunters as well.''
''That's why I'll lure him out of the public to somewhere more private,'' Sonic added, having already talked to Lucas about their plan. He was already hopping on spot, preparing for a sprint. ''I'll be back in a flash.''
With that said, he ran off towards CyExLabs, having reached the place in a few seconds. However, even those seconds didn't matter, as Shadow had already defeated the Irregular Hunters, skating down the street, away from the CyExLabs. Sonic knew that, if Shadow teleported now, they would lose him for good. As for how he'd get Shadow to follow him, he wasn't completely sure.
Okay, this is what I'll do. Step one: Light taunting. Step two: I have no idea. Sonic hoped that this would work, preparing for the worst as he called out, ''Hey!''
Shadow turned around, visibly surprised to see Sonic here. ''You again…''
''I've found you, Faker!'' Sonic walked up to Shadow, pleased that he got the latter's attention.
''Faker? I think you're the fake hedgehog around here,'' Shadow replied. Admittedly, he was both annoyed and intrigued by Sonic's sudden appearance. ''You're comparing yourself to me? Ha! You're not even good enough to be my fake!''
''I'll make you eat those words!''
Sonic achieved exactly what he wanted, grinning when he saw Shadow charging at him. Instead of attacking back, he ran off towards the meeting spot he and Lucas had agreed on.
''Coward!'' Sonic heard Shadow yell behind him, but ignored it. It would take him just a few seconds until they arrived at a secure spot. He then entered a narrow street, dashing from wall to wall and jumping over a fence. Fortunately, Shadow was still following him without question.
''I thought you'd be able to keep up with me, Faker!'' Sonic taunted him. ''Looks like you're not as fast as I thought.''
''I'll show you…'' Shadow frowned, not even registering that Sonic had slowed down when they reached an underpass at an area devoid of people. He passed Sonic, then stopped, turning towards the blue hedgehog. His eyes narrowed. ''What is the meaning of this?''
''I want to talk to you,'' Sonic said in a calm tone. Shadow stepped back, glaring at the latter. ''You've been causing trouble among the Hunters, but I figured that you were just defending yourself, since you're an Irregular and all that. So, why are you here?''
''That is none of your business,'' Shadow responded curtly.
''It is if you are going to continue causing trouble for me, my friends and everyone else in Neos City,'' Sonic replied.
''Hmph, Neos City will soon be no more,'' Shadow responded. Sonic's smile vanished and he frowned as he observed Shadow.
''What are you talking about?'' he asked. ''I don't understand. Is Neos City in danger?''
''Neos City… All of the humans…'' Shadow started, slowly opening and closing his fist. His tone was calm, almost devoid of any emotion. ''I'll be the judge of their sins.''
Sonic felt a chill flowing down his spine as he saw Shadow's demeanor changing. ''What… are you…?''
''So, don't get in my way!'' Shadow yelled, summoning an orange and crimson bolt of energy, throwing it at Sonic.
''Wha-?!'' Sonic dodged Shadow's attack, with Shadow suddenly charging at him. Sonic crouched, managing to throw Shadow backwards, but the black-furred hedgehog landed on his feet, his air shoes keeping him in balance.
''Sonic!'' Both Sonic and Shadow looked up to the top of the underpass, with Lucas flying down on his hoverboard, stopping next to his partner. He and Sonic exchanged a nod, both turning towards Shadow, with Lucas adding, ''I had hoped that Sonic would be able to talk to you, but if you refuse to explain anything to us, then we'll have to fight you.''
''I will welcome any challenge,'' Shadow responded. Lucas turned to Sonic.
''Ready?''
''Yeah! Let's do it!''
Both extended their hands, with Sonic sensing Lucas' BioEnergy. They didn't even make any physical contact this time, yet a blue orb of energy appeared between them, with both exclaiming, ''Chaos Surge!''
To Shadow's shock, both absorbed the energy orb, both gaining an aura, with electric sparks surrounding their bodies. His eyes narrowed and he gritted his teeth as he realized what was going on, his voice only a whisper, ''How… dare you…?''
''Time for Round 2, Shadow!'' Sonic said, clenching his fists and taking a battle stance. Lucas stepped away, despite the overflowing energy he felt. He still couldn't control his super speed properly and he felt that it would be better to leave this one to Sonic. Not to mention, if he exhausted himself, then Sonic would lose power as well.
''Why… are you… using that…?'' Shadow continued, suddenly overwhelmed by a memory of the past. He could hear Touka screaming in fear; he could remember absorbing her BioEnergy; he could see her lying on the ground, motionless. Shadow felt a tranquil fury surging through his body, the sense of rage overwhelming him. He clenched his fist, summoning another bolt of energy. ''Unforgivable!''
Sonic dodged the bolt of energy Shadow had fired, stunning the latter with his increased speed. He suddenly appeared right in front of Shadow, kicking the latter into the gut. Shadow fell on one knee, blue sparks of electricity enveloping his body and paralyzing his limbs. Sonic stepped in front of him.
''Why are you so upset?'' Sonic asked. ''If we could just talk– agh!''
Sonic managed to dodge another bolt of energy, but Shadow suddenly teleported behind him, kicking him in the back of the head, his attack boosted by his air shoes. Sonic flew, hitting the pavement hard, but then got up again, just in time to dodge another bolt of energy.
''How dare you to utilize BioEnergy this way? Do you have a death wish?!'' Shadow yelled at both Sonic and Lucas.
''Wait, so you know about this?'' Lucas asked. Shadow gritted his teeth, feeling that he revealed a bit too much. After all, no one was supposed to know what BioEnergy could really do, especially in the hands of an Irregular.
''It doesn't matter,'' Shadow told the two. ''None of it will matter once I'm done with Neos City and everyone inhabiting it.''
''Wait!'' Lucas yelled, but it was too late. Shadow had already teleported away.
''What should we do now? He's gone!'' Sonic said, feeling the Chaos Surge power-up fading away. ''It sounded like he wants to take revenge on Neos City or something like that.''
''I-I don't know,'' Lucas replied, thinking about his next move as he felt a sudden sense of panic. They still had no idea what Shadow was up to, or even where he went to, but he was angry. ''This is bad news.'' Lucas tapped on the AR Visor, but just as he attempted to contact the rest of the team, he and Sonic were surprised by a blue blur ramming into the latter. ''Sonic!''
He ran over, helping his partner up, with Sonic placing his hand against his head. ''Ugh, that hurt… Huh?'' Both looked up to see who had attacked them, surprised to see a familiar face. ''Not again!''
It was Metal Sonic.
xXx
Touka was walking through Codex, having read the plate at the entrance and confirming that she was in the right place. She had no idea whether Shadow was still inside the facility and whether she would come across it, but she was confident that they would meet each other eventually. For now, she hoped that simply walking through the facility would help her regain more memories. Her gut feeling was telling her that she had actually walked through these corridors once, but it felt like she was in a trance.
Don't push yourself, Touka. Your memories will come back to you eventually… well, most of them should.
Admittedly, she could navigate through the building based on the pieces of memories she had and her own assumption of where everything was. Fortunately for her, she found herself walking through a familiar corridor, even though she wasn't completely sure to where it led. However, she was sure she was going the right way. As she continued exploring, some of the memories had resurfaced and she remembered being in a room, sitting on a bed and reading a book. There was also another memory of her being brought to the medbay because she had scraped her knee and was bleeding. Another thing she had recalled was sneaking into a storage-like area, trying to avoid being found by the people who had worked there.
''You are going to get yourself into trouble.''
''I know, but I want to learn what they're working on. They're never telling us anything about what's going on and its so frustrating to be constantly left in the dark.''
Touka smiled at the memory of her talking to Shadow while they were hiding inside the storage. She remembered there being an incident with another worker and them mentioning the storage, but when she asked about what had happened, she got dismissed and told that she shouldn't ask questions about stuff that didn't concern her directly.
''I don't think you are going to uncover anything here,'' Shadow had told her. ''Not to mention, the Professor is going to be angry if he finds out that we were here.''
Touka sighed, well aware that Shadow was right, but she was stubborn enough to continue, ''Maybe you should go back, so I'll be the only one to get into trouble, if found. We both know that he isn't that fond of me, so it doesn't matter what I do. He will just find another reason to scold me.''
''I'm not leaving you alone,'' Shadow responded in a firm tone. Touka just smiled back in response, nodding and knowing that her partner would stand by her side, not matter what.
Now, it's up to me to find him and put an end to this nightmare.
Touka walked into another corridor, realizing that this one led to the research part of the building and she felt her heart racing, only to feel suddenly someone grab her from behind, dragging her into a dark room. She tried to fight back, only feel a sharp sense of pain in the back of her body, then everything went black.

Sonic Frontiers Pre-DLC-Three Whinefest
Tumblr media
I couldn't really get much into Sonic Frontiers, and I thought the final boss and ending was a little lacklustre. Apparently the writers agreed with me, because they're releasing a new ending as free DLC tomorrow.
I actually had a lot of thoughts about Frontiers and this'll likely be the last time I can air them before The Final Horizon comes along and makes me eat humble pie with how good it is. But I don't want to rip on it too hard because I know a lot of effort goes into making games like this.
I think Sonic Frontiers works best for me when I look at it like a tech demo for a future open world Sonic game. Compared to the variety of stages you get in other Sonic games - here's a casino with giant pinball machines, there's a European city full of balloons, here's a mineshaft from Halloween Town - the Frontiers open zones kind of felt sparse and empty, and there wasn't much I could find to do except go from one bit of plot to the next. This is a trap a lot of open-world games fall into, when the world is wider than it is deep, and there's everywhere to go but nothing to do.
Tumblr media
However, I did like the enemies. They kind of looked samey aesthetics-wise, but they were all unique and had their own abilities that cleverly played off from Sonic's own, like the enemy disguised as a bounce pad or the one that would steal a Chaos Emerald from you.
In terms of boss fights, I think I preferred the part where you were normal Sonic running up their bodies to being Super Sonic and frantically smashing buttons. I was a big fan of Shadow of the Colossus, so anything that reminds me of those bosses is a plus.
Tumblr media
Plot-wise, well... usually I can take or leave Sonic game plots, but this is probably the most plot-heavy Sonic game we've had so far. It's been described as "melancholy", and while it's not exactly grimdark-edgy, I wonder if it's a good fit for a Sonic game. I think the tone that suits Sonic best would be “fun”; not necessarily “silly” or “goofy”, just “fun”. That’s not me saying the whole thing should be happy-go-lucky, I think it should take slow moments every now and then to add complexity to the story.
Sonic's friends have these character arcs where they learn important lessons, like Amy learns not to be creepy-in-love with Sonic, Knuckles learns not to be tethered to the Master Emerald all the time, and Tails learns to stand on his own two feet for the umpteenth time. Part of me feels like maybe they're overcorrecting things that don't need that much correcting - especially Tails, whose whole arc felt kind of like an apology for the whole "Sonic, help me!" throwaway line in Forces.
Then there's Sage, the new character for this game, honouring the SEGA tradition of adding at least one new character every game. Truth be told, I kind of like them adding new characters, as long as they aren't just re-skins of the same "tutorial fairy" archetype (I think that's why Blaze and Silver had the staying power they did, being headlining playable characters in their debut games and all).
Sage had a lot of potential that I didn't think they got to explore. It's an interesting idea that she unconditionally loves Eggman like a father, but learns more of her morals from Sonic, which has the makings of a really tragic character. But they didn't really go in-depth with this my-two-dads-hate-each-other hook, and when they tried to do the whole Toy Story 2 bit with her (you know the part I'm talking about) I just couldn't take it seriously.
Tumblr media
The main villain of the game turns out to be a big purple rock, which left me quite underwhelmed considering the build-up it got. The Sonic wiki reckons it's the ultimate overarching evil in all of Sonic ("Oh my God, I should have known! The one behind all this! All this time it was a big purple rock!") which is big talk considering Eggman is right! There! I get they were trying to go for a whole Azathoth/Yog-Sothoth thing, but I think Sonic-style dark gods need some more meat on their bones than the Lovecraft "it's indescribable, just trust me bro" style. I've seen some impressive fan designs for the big purple rock that make it look a lot more malevolent.

Honestly, I think Sage should have been the final boss. That’d really put her feelings between Sonic and Eggman at the emotional core of the story. Imagine once the towers were finished, Eggman comes out of cyberspace and the first thing he tries is to kill Sonic and his friends there and then - maybe he orders Sage to do it - but poor Sage can’t bring herself to kill her Uncle Sonic or disappoint her beloved dad, so she has an emotional breakdown which allows the evil cyber-force to enter into her mind, and the final boss ends up being her piloting this super-titan made of all three of the other titans. And maybe at the end Sonic knocks some sense into her – telling her to be her own person and all that – and she uses her free will to sacrifice herself and stop the cyber-evil. Or something. Look, I still can't believe the final boss was a QTE against a big purple rock, alright?!
But if there's one thing I do like Sonic Frontiers for, it's for being ambitious. If you look around the Sonic Fanon wiki, you'll see a lot of pretty detailed Sonic game ideas, and a lot of them have pretty high stakes and expansive stages - open-world designs featuring ancient evils from ancient civilizations and stuff like that. The first thing I thought of when I saw Frontiers, right when it was nothing more than a teaser, was that it reminded me of those fan game ideas. And in a strange way it works. Kind of. Sorta. I didn't hate it. On reflection.
If nothing else, Frontiers proves that an open-ended Sonic game can work. If the open world was more lively, it'd be a magical experience. Picture Sonic running through the countryside at night, over hill and dale, past streams and forests, the flickering lights of cities in the distance. Slaloming through traffic on the interstate, running up the sides of skyscrapers and springing from the rooftops, pedestrians down below wondering what that blue flash was. That kind of freedom and openness suits Sonic down to the ground. Split the world into denser and busier areas for fast-paced reflex-testing, and wider, quieter areas for taking it all in - that's a true Sonic simulator right there, looking into his world of worlds.
The new DLC also gives SEGA the chance to prove itself with other playable characters, like back in the days of Adventure yore. I actually like the presence of other playable characters - like I say, you don't make a fox with two tails who can fly and not have him playable - so long as they're fun to play as. Honestly, I hope the new DLC does it well, because if it's a success, then the next game might be willing to expand upon all this potential. You never know, we might be looking at a proper Sonic the Hedgehog RPG in a few years, and it could be the biggest Sonic adventure since... uh... Sonic Adventure.
So, yeah - Sonic Frontiers - didn't dig it - could've done better - and I hope it does do better, because it has a hell of a lot of potential, and I'd love to see an open-ended Sonic game taking place in a living, breathing world with the groundwork Frontiers has laid. And if we can play as Tails, Knuckles, Amy and all the rest, so much the better. Bring on Grand Theft Sonic, I say.

F: Share a snippet from one of your favourite dialogue scenes you've written and explain why you're proud of it.
Right away, Amy reached through the bars and shoved at his chest—not hard enough to do any damage or cause any real pain, but enough to make him take a step back. “What am I doing here?” She narrowed her eyes. “What am I doing here? Can’t I care about my brother? Can’t I worry about him when I hear he’s been kidnapped and locked back up? What am I doing here? How about, what are you doing here? You never had to agree to any of this!” Ah. Right. After what Sonic had said, Silver should have been able to guess this outcome. “Sorry,” he stammered. “Sorry. You’re right. I, uh, haven’t been using my best brain cells.” Amy dropped the basket, reached back through the bars with both hands, and tugged Silver forward into one of the most awkward hugs he’d ever been a part of. After a second, he heard her hiccup. Shit. Fuck. Shit fuck. Amy was crying, and this time, it was actually Silver’s fault. He pretended that his rib cage didn’t feel like it was being split in two. “Hey, Amy, it’s okay,” Silver hastily assured her. Over the top of her head, he made frantic eye contact with the G.U.N. employee, who looked almost hilariously out of their depth. “I’m okay! You can stop worrying because I’m okay, and I’m safe, and I should be going home soon, I think, so everything will be alright and normal and good! Just—gosh, this is all my fault. I was a little silly, I admit it, but we’ll be okay, but if you keep crying, it’s going to make me cry.” Amy looked up. To her credit, she had the decency not to blow her nose in his fur, though goodness only knew how much he needed a bath already. “No more adventuring for you,” she blubbered. “You’re really bad at it. Don’t you ever do this again. You… you…” Silver sighed. “I know,” he agreed. “I was a jerk to leave you alone. Things just got a little messier than anybody thought they would. I really want you to try not to worry, okay? I know it’s hard, but I can protect myself when I have to.” “I don’t want you to!” Amy rebuked, almost yelling. The G.U.N. employee inched back toward the door. “Silver, that’s the whole point! You shouldn’t have to defend yourself!” There wasn’t a good response that he could give her. She was echoing every sentiment that he had ever felt when he found her gone. “Now you know how it feels,” he murmured. “You get why I worry about you, right? You’re my baby sister. I don’t want to cause trouble for you, either, so please stop crying, okay? We’ll make this better.” “Crying is healthy,” Amy argued. “I’m going to cry whether you want me to or not, after all you’ve put me through. You should try it sometime.” Silver had cried out of fear more than enough times, but she didn’t need to know that. “Okay,” he said. “You’re right. I’m sorry. You’ve earned the right to cry.” “Silver?” “Yeah?” “Stop talking.”
There are a lot of dialogue bits I like from NNNFNS, but especially the ones with Amy and with Mephiles. This particular scene comes to mind since it's such a turning point for Silver and Amy's relationship, secondary to the plot as it was.
G: Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?
I always write my stories in order. I think I'd be too lazy to add as many scenes as a story deserves during revision, so I try to just get everything out as I think of it.
H: How would you describe your style?
I have absolutely no idea. It just sounds like the thoughts in my head.
I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?
I'll admit that I go back to reading BN//HA fic every few months. I'm not a fan of the source material, but that fandom can write some damn good crossovers. I'm also not immune to Shinsou Hitoshi as a character, and fic authors LOVE putting him in situations of angst and whump, which tend to be my favorite to read. I'm also a big fan of mermaid aus, so I'm always down to read a Shinsou siren au fic. They're some of my favorites of all time.

I just realised what the whole "tribe" that Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails formed together could mean for the Sonic Movie Verse.
It means that other beloved Sonic characters from the games (who at this point Sega have been treating as bland NPCs) can have a chance to be more active by joining this "tribe". A group who promises to look out for each other, and protect the Earth and galaxy from threats.

Headcanon #272: Shellshock
This is the sequel to that headcanon with Blaze, Silver, Shadow, and Amy at the pizza place. They’re cross-posted as a set on AO3.
It’s such a shame that so many people only know Silver from Sonic ‘06 when he’s usually such a cute, lovable dork:
Tumblr media
Shadow teleported to Seaside Hill, bringing Amy along with him. He held onto her hand as long as he felt he could without being too obvious about it, then let go and took a look around the empty beach. “How long do you think it’ll take Silver to get here?”
Amy checked the time on her phone. “Not too long. He’s punctual like we are. It’d be pretty ironic if the chronic time traveler always showed up late, right?”
Shadow’s heart fluttered at her charming smile. Secretly, he didn’t mind if Silver took his time, as he cherished every moment he got to spend one-on-one with Amy; he’d even shown up at her house a little early that morning just so he could spend a few extra minutes with her.
Oblivious to Shadow’s thoughts, Amy wandered off to take a look around, then made a small sound of excitement when she spotted something at the base of a cliff. Shadow followed her over and examined the plants she was admiring.
“These flowers are so pretty! I was in such a rush last time I was here that I never noticed them.” Amy grinned brightly, stooping down to inspect the plants more closely. “What do you think they are?”
“Rosemary,” Shadow replied easily. “It’s lucky that we’re here now. They only bloom for a couple months in the summertime.”
Amy turned her brilliant smile Shadow’s way. “You sure know a lot about plants!” She hopped back up and dug her toes into the sand, almost looking shy. “I’d love to stop by and see your garden again, if that’s alright. You take such good care of it!”
“I’d be honored,” Shadow answered immediately. He cleared his throat and tried to rein in his excitement. “I’m free this Sunday. If you want to, that is.”
She nodded. “I’d love to!”
Shadow considered leaving it there at the small victory, but he packed up his courage to add, “I’ve been growing some red roses lately. They made me think of you.” Suddenly afraid he’d spook her, he hurriedly added, “You know. Because of your last name.”
Any fear that he’d gone too far vanished when Amy beamed and playfully shoved him. “You’re too sweet!” He couldn’t hide his own smile.
After that, though, her expression turned distant. “You know, that actually would’ve fit my dad’s name better.”
Shadow’s ears perked up. Amy rarely spoke of her late parents. “So...your dad’s name was Red Rose?” Unexpectedly feminine, but I guess I don’t have much room to talk when it comes to unusual names.
“Mm...kind of. His first name was actually ‘Swift.’”
Shadow frowned in confusion. “’Swift’ is a fine name for a hedgehog. Why did he go by ‘Red?’”
“Because ‘Swift’ was also his dad’s name, and his grandfather’s, and his great-grandfather’s,” she explained. “It’s kind of a tradition at this point. They go...went...by their fur colors to clear things up: Red, cousin Crimson, Grandpa Vermilion, uncle Copper...heh. I even had an uncle Blaze. Threw me off when our Blaze turned out purple.” Amy’s smile turned sheepish. “It’s a little silly, isn’t it? You’d think they’d just pick something else! It’s a weird tradition, but...” She fiddled with her fingers. “If I ever have a son, I...kind of feel like I might do that, too. Just...to feel a little closer to them. Is that weird?”
“Not at all. I think it’s very meaningful that you have a way of connecting with your family.” He averted his gaze. “I wish I could have something like that. It sounds nice.”
Amy gazed at him for a moment, but then her sympathy made way for a grin. “So make one!”
“Huh?”
“When you start your own family someday! You’ve said you want kids, right?” He nodded slowly. “Then you’ll be able to start your own traditions. I’m sure you’ll do great!”
Shadow’s heart pounded. “...Thank you!” She nodded. He bit his lip. “That means a lot coming from you, because I’ve always thought...that you’d be...”
Silver appeared in a bright green flash, temporarily blinding Shadow. “Hi, guys!”
Damn it.
“Morning, Silver! You--” Amy gasped. “Oh, no!” She stepped forward and took his face in her hands. Shadow’s eye twitched. “Silver, you look exhausted! What happened?”
“Oh, I’m fine!” Silver brushed aside her concern. He grinned despite the bags under his eyes. “Tails showed me this game called Creature Crossing, and I’ve been playing it nonstop! You can grow plants, go fishing, dig for things, talk to these cute animal characters...”
You mean like in real life? Shadow thought, unimpressed.
Amy put her hands on her hips and tapped her foot rapidly. “I’m glad you’re having fun, but you need your sleep, Silver!” she scolded. “I know you get headaches when you’re tired. It could affect your powers. I don’t want you getting hurt!”
“Pfft, I can handle it. Today won’t be too tough!” She didn’t look convinced. He changed the subject. “I’ve been trying out those new quillstyles you showed me last weekend. Did I get it right?”
He gestured to his quills. The ones in the back looked the same as always, but he’d side-parted the ones in the front to frame his face.
I have to admit he does look better, Shadow thought. At least they’re actually doing something instead of just sticking up like usual.
“Hmm...” Amy scratched her chin. “Almost. Let me see...” Just as she had a few days ago, Amy ran her fingers through Silver’s quills to tweak them a bit.
“Amy, you don’t have to! I can do it!” Despite his words, Silver didn’t sound particularly upset and even leaned his head forward to give her more access. He was grinning fondly down at her.
“I won’t hear it! I know what this is like,” Amy reminded him, standing on her tiptoes as she worked. “I want to help you look your best!”
Shadow looked away pointedly. He scratched his chin, silently contemplating the possibility of purposely leaving his quills messy when Amy stopped by on Sunday in the hopes that he could enjoy her attentions, too. The concept warred fiercely with his compulsive need to keep his quills pristine at all times, and it worried him that the dumb idea held so much sway over him.
“Okay!” Amy’s peppy declaration snapped Shadow out of his silly thoughts. “Does everyone remember the mission?”
Shadow stayed quiet, secretly admiring Amy’s cute energy and trying not to look as smitten as he was. Silver raised his hand and stood on his tiptoes excitedly, looking just as excited as Amy. “I do!”
Amy giggled into her hand. Shadow tried to ignore how charmed she was by Silver’s antics. “You don’t have to raise your hand, Silver.”
Silver dropped his hand and rubbed his upper arm, but he didn’t stop smiling. “Sorry, I’m just excited. I’ve never seen a Seaside Sunshell turtle before, let alone a whole bunch of hatchlings.”
A hint of sadness crossed Amy’s face. “Not many people have. They’re critically endangered, after all.” She shook it off and brightened up. “But that’s why we’re here!”
Shadow nodded, and Silver pumped his fist in the air. “Yeah!”
“So what’s the plan, Amy?”
Her face turned serious. “We need to make sure as many of those hatchlings get to the water as possible. The conservationist I’ve been in contact with said the turtle nests are over there at the base of those cliffs,” she explained, pointing to a spot halfway down the beach. She pressed her fingers together. “Now...Sunshells are fragile and need to imprint on this sand specifically, so they have to make it to the ocean on their own. We can’t just pick them up and bring them to the water. And that is where you come in, Silver!” she said, turning to him. “You can use your psychokinesis to clear obstacles and help protect them on their way to the ocean!”
“Hmm.” Shadow glanced in the direction of the nests and eyed the soaring seagulls warily. “That’s a good idea. Baby turtles are prey for just about everything.” He turned back to Amy. “So what about the two of us?”
“You see the cracks on those cliffs?”
Shadow narrowed his eyes and spotted the crevices she was pointing to near the top. He nodded.
“For some reason, these cliffs have been weakening and crumbling in recent years, and no one’s sure why. It’s degrading the turtles’ habitats, and the rocks fall and crush them sometimes, too. It’s one of the biggest threats to their survival.” She clasped her hands in front of her sadly.
“What can I do to help?”
Shadow’s bluntness set her back on track. “There’s not much we can do about the crumbling, but I figure you can use your Chaos Spears to break up and deflect any falling rocks. You can also help scare off any predators. Just aim carefully, okay?”
“Hmph.” He waved off her concerns. “That won’t be an issue. I was built for precision.”
Amy giggled. “’Built for precision?’ You’re spending too much time with Omega!” Silver’s laughter joined hers. Shadow just shrugged, seeing no reason to feel insulted.
“So what’ll you be doing, Amy?” Silver asked after a moment.
“I’ll be keeping a lookout from the peak. Someone needs to redirect people away from the site.” She narrowed her eyes and scratched her chin. “And I’m hoping I can figure out what’s going on with the cliffs, too.”
Shadow’s heart sank as he examined the height of the cliffs and realized he wouldn’t be able to talk to her. She caught his look and pouted. “Is that alright?”
“Of course it is!” Silver answered for him. He threw an arm around Shadow’s shoulders. “Shadow and I can handle this!”
Shadow looked down at the arm around his shoulders and fixed Silver with an unimpressed look, the kind of blunt stare that would scare off most people. Silver kept beaming brightly at him, seemingly oblivious to his disapproval. Shadow sighed. “We’ll be fine.”
Amy’s bright smile tempered his disappointment. “That’s the spirit! We can do this!” She marched down the beach, and the other two followed her.
She scanned the ground as she went, clearly looking for something. “My contact couldn’t be here this morning, but she said she marked the locations of the nests so we could...aha!” She jogged over to a small shrub with a length of blue twine tied around its base. She knelt down beside it, holding up her arm in warning. “She said you can tell the hatching’s about to start when the sand collapses down like this,” she explained, gesturing to a sunken patch of sand about two feet in diameter. “And the other nest should be riiiight...there!” she added, pointing to another shrub a little ways down. She wrinkled her nose sadly. “I wish we could’ve found that last one...the conservationist said there were supposed to be three nests, but she could only find two.”
“What happened to the last one?” Silver asked, drooping noticeably in disappointment.
Amy crossed her arms. “I don’t know, but I’m not going to stop looking. And in the meantime, we can still help out the rest of them!” Silver perked up and nodded along.
Past them, Shadow heard a soft noise. He angled his ear toward the nest to listen more carefully. It was low and muffled by the sand, but he could hear it. His eyes widened. “Huh. So it is true.”
“What is?”
“Turtles vocalize to communicate with each other even when they’re still in their eggs,” Shadow explained. “They coordinate their hatching times so they can all come out at the same time. There’s safety in numbers.”
Amy and Silver both made intrigued noises. They bent down low to the ground to try and listen as well. Shadow shook his head. “You won’t be able to--”
“I can hear it!” Silver chimed in immediately, sounding excited.
Shadow remained skeptical. “You must be hearing something else. It’s way too quiet for normal Mobians to pick up on it.”
“What does it sound like?” Amy asked.
“It’s like a low chirping sound. It’s kind of cool!”
Shadow stopped and uncrossed his arms, baffled. “I have enhanced hearing. How can you hear it?”
Silver stood back up. “Just runs in my family. All our senses are off-the-charts for some reason.” Upon seeing Shadow was still staring at him in surprise, he shrugged and half-smiled. “It’s kind of overwhelming sometimes, isn’t it?”
Shadow hesitated, then nodded. “Yeah. It really is.”
Amy glanced between the two of them and grinned. “Well, so long as you two are bonding, I should get going to do my part.”
A part of Shadow ached at the impending loss of her company. He only felt sadder as something occurred to him. “If you leave now, you won’t get to see any of the baby turtles.”
“Oh...yeah, that’s right,” she realized, deflating. After a moment, though, she recovered. “It’s okay! This is more important than my desire to see baby turtles! Even if it would be adorable...” she lamented, pouting.
“If you want, I’ll switch places with you,” Shadow offered. “I’ve seen you break rocks with that hammer of yours.”
Amy’s eyes shone in gratitude and indecision. It warmed his heart. If she says yes, she’ll be spending time alone with another guy who’s clearly head over heels for her...but if it’ll make her this happy, it’s definitely worth it.
But she shook her head furiously instead. “No, no. It’s alright! Your Chaos Spears are much more precise than my hammer, and precision is essential here! I’ve got my role, and you two have yours.” She nodded definitively. Shadow’s heart softened further at her dedication.
“So selfless!” Silver gushed, echoing Shadow’s own thoughts.
Amy snorted good-naturedly and lightly punched his arm. “Don’t patronize me!”
“I wasn’t!”
She tried to wave it off, but Shadow was having none of it. “I agree with Silver. It’s generous of you to stick to the original plan.”
Despite her best efforts, a genuine smile spread across Amy’s face. She pulled the two of them into a quick, tight hug. “Thanks, guys.” She pulled away.
Shadow thought for a moment. “You could always stay for the first few and then get going,” he suggested.
Amy shook her head. “No can do. All it takes is one unsupervised dog off-leash for things to get out of control.”
“Very well.” Shadow looked back down at the sunken sand, then added, “I’ll take pictures for you.”
“Thanks, Shadow.” Her smile returned, and she clenched her fists eagerly. “Alright. It’s time. Good luck, you two!”
“Right!” Silver agreed, matching her enthusiasm. Shadow just nodded. Amy turned and started to leave, and Shadow watched her go. When she was about twenty feet away, though, she froze, as if remembering something. “Shadow! C’mere!” she called out.
Shadow glanced at Silver and exchanged a curious shrug with him. He jogged over to Amy.
When he got there, she took out a radio. “I almost forgot! I brought these so we can keep in touch.” She pressed it into his hand, but she didn’t let go afterward. After casting a furtive glance over Shadow’s shoulder, she took his upper arm to pull him closer. He ignored his heightened heartbeat as she spoke. “This is kind of silly, but...” she started, murmuring so they wouldn’t be overheard. “I know Silver’s older than me and he can look after himself, but I always kind of worry about him. It’s stupid, but I can’t help it for some reason. Do you think you could, um...” she trailed off.
“That’s not stupid.” He looked over his shoulder to see Silver was gazing dreamily around the admittedly scenic beach, not paying attention to his surroundings at all. Shadow scoffed. “Don’t know what it is, but I feel the same way sometimes.” She was looking up at him hopefully, so he added, “I’ll make sure he doesn’t try to make friends with a crab or anything.”
Amy sighed in obvious relief. “Thank you, Shadow. I know I don’t have to worry about you!” Pride swelled in his chest, and his stomach flipped when she grinned warmly and squeezed his hand in both of hers before dashing off. He gazed fondly after her for a moment, then turned back to Silver, who was grinning expectantly down at the nest, the very picture of innocent enthusiasm.
Maybe I’ve been too harsh on this kid lately. It’s not a crime to have great taste in women.
Silver gazed after Amy as well, then smiled up at him. “She’s the best, isn’t she?”
Shadow held back his feelings of jealousy and examined Silver’s expression more closely. “You really like her, don’t you?”
Silver’s smile turned sheepish. “Is it that obvious?”
Dammit. Dammit. Why did I have to say that? I don’t want to have this conversation! Shadow nodded in response, doing his best to hide his inner turmoil.
Silver scratched the back of his neck self-consciously. “This is a little weird, so don’t tell her, but...”
How should I react? Am I supposed to tell him I like her, too? What should I--
“She reminds me of my mom.”
Shadow’s thoughts ground to a halt. “What?”
Silver chuckled shyly. “It’s a little embarrassing.”
Shadow barely heard him as the pieces fell into place. She does act kind of motherly towards him, and he never seems to mind. Have I been stressed over nothing all this time?
Silver looked uncomfortable. “Is that weird?”
Realizing he’d been staring intensely at nothing, Shadow snapped out of it. “No, that makes sense. What is your mom like?”
Silver stooped down in front of the nest and gazed absently at it. His face was impossibly fond. “She was...amazing. I’ve never met anyone quite like her.”
Shadow winced in empathy. ‘Was?’ So he’s already lost his mom?
Silver’s affectionate smile didn’t fade as he spoke patiently of his lost loved one. “She was as compassionate as anyone I’ve ever known, but it was a fierce kindness. She wouldn’t just sympathize, she would fight for you. For anyone who was hurting.” He laughed softly. “Dad always said she was too forgiving, but she never let up. She always said that everyone--everyone--deserves a second chance.”
Shadow thought of his own history with Amy, and his heart softened with affection. That sounds exactly like her.
Silver picked up a stick and started drawing aimless patterns in the sand. His brow wrinkled in slight pain. “I was so young when I lost her. I wish I’d gotten to know her better.” His lips quirked into a half-smile. “I know I’ll never really have her back, but when I spend time with Amy, it makes me feel closer to her again.” He chuckled. “She even has the same soft green eyes Mom had.”
Shadow’s heart clenched. He squatted down opposite of Silver. “She sounds wonderful. I won’t tell Amy, but for the record, I think she’d feel honored to be compared to someone like that.”
Silver beamed up at him. “You might be right. My dad always told me I was a lot like her. It was the best compliment I could ever think of.”
His dad ‘told’ him? Past tense again? Don’t tell me this poor kid’s already lost both of his parents. Shadow was afraid to ask, so he just responded with a solemn nod and waited to see if Silver would add anything. He did.
“When I was really little, she used to sing this song to me when I couldn’t fall asleep. I wish I still remembered it. It was kind of sad but hopeful, if that makes sense...?” Shadow nodded, and Silver frowned in thought. “It was something about the stars and constellations, and how I’d always be okay...”
Shadow’s eyes lit up. Could it be...? He started to sing softly, experimentally.
“As the stars start to align I hope you take it as a sign That you’ll be okay Everything will be okay
And if the seven rings collapse Although the day could be my last You will be okay--”
Shadow stopped. “Silver? Are you alright?”
Silver had been staring at him with wide eyes. At Shadow’s words, he snapped out of it. He wiped a tear off his cheek and looked down at it in surprise. “Oh! Ah, sorry! I just haven’t heard that in a while, is all.” He laughed nervously and averted his gaze, hurriedly wiping off his face. Clearly embarrassed, he kept the topic moving. “How do you know that one? I’ve never heard anyone else sing it.”
“Professor Gerald taught it to Maria, and she sang it for me on the ARK whenever I was upset. It always calmed me down.” Silver was smiling again, but it still looked a bit strained. It tugged at Shadow’s heartstrings. He hesitated before adding, “...I don’t get to sing it very often. If you’d like, I can sing it for you some other time.” Maybe sometime when we both feel comfortable crying.
Silver’s grin turned sincere. “I’d really like that.” Shadow nodded.
Just then, the little squeaks under the sand grew louder, drawing Shadow and Silver’s attention. They spotted a bit of movement on the ground between them. The sand sank and shifted just slightly at first, then made way for a tiny, wrinkled head. The baby turtle lazily blinked its eyes open.
Silver gasped. His eyes went wide. His gaze snapped briefly up. “Shadow, it’s happening!” He looked right back down as the turtle started pushing its way up, sluggishly trying to shake off the sand as it went. “This is incredible!”
Shadow kept quiet, though he couldn’t help but agree. Remembering his promise to Amy, he took a few pictures as more tiny turtle heads pushed their way up. Flippers emerged to drag the turtles up through the sand, and the turtles started working together to fight gravity. Soon enough, ten or fifteen turtles had escaped the nest and were dragging themselves determinedly toward the water as one, aside from one or two confused, misdirected stragglers. Shadow peeked over his shoulder and found a few turtles were escaping from the other nest, too. Silver was completely captivated by the sight, but Shadow focused on the challenges ahead.
“We should clear some of the rocks and vegetation if we can. It’ll give the turtles a clear shot.”
At his words, Silver snapped back to the task at hand. “Right!” They worked together to shift boulders out of the way--Silver with his psychokinesis, Shadow with his strength. Shadow looked back at the cliffs behind him when a low hum emitted from them. He frowned as he felt a slight vibration.
“Do you hear that?” Silver asked. Shadow didn’t answer. He was too preoccupied with the crack that grew along the top of the cliff. Soon enough, a large hunk of rock fell. Shadow gritted his teeth.
“Chaos Spear!”
Shadow flicked his wrist as he hurled the projectile, making it curve to smash through the rock and hook away from the fragile cliffs at the last second. He threw a few smaller spears in the same way to break up the larger chunks until only harmless dust fell to the beach.
“Wow, nice job!”
“Stay focused,” Shadow shot back, brushing off the compliment and pointing to some seagulls that were swooping in. Silver turned around and quickly projected a barrier to deflect them, keeping it malleable to push the gulls away without hurting them with the impact. Shadow relaxed and activated his radio.
“Amy? You there?”
“Yup! Any turtles yet?”
Shadow sighed in relief. “Yeah. They’re safe so far, but the cliffs are crumbling, just like you said. Avoid the edges if you can.”
“Aww, thanks! I’ll be careful,” she replied, sounding endeared.
Shadow opened his mouth to say something along the lines of ‘I wouldn’t be able to stand it if something happened to you’ or ‘I’ll always be there to catch you if you fall,’ but he lost his nerve and instead opted for a simple, “Good. Shadow out.”
With the excitement out of the way, Silver squatted back down to admire the baby turtles as they scuttled toward the sea. He held up a hand to maintain the forcefield above his head, while he leaned his free elbow against his knee and rested his chin in his palm. He smiled dreamily at the cute, determined little creatures, each adorned with the vaguely sun-shaped pattern on their backs that gave Sunshells their name.
Shadow rolled the remaining boulders into place to block the turtles from going the wrong direction. He snapped a few more photos before addressing Silver. “You’re really fond of them, aren’t you?” Silver nodded absently. Shadow’s expression grew concerned as he kept working. “I can tell why you want to help them so much. They’re still rare in your time, aren’t they?”
Silver’s smile barely changed. “They’re extinct.”
Shadow’s head whipped over to him. After a few seconds of silence, Silver looked up at him and panicked. “Oh--oh, crap! Sorry! Uh...pretend I didn’t say that!” He hid his face in his hands and groaned. “Man, Blaze is right. I really am going to break something, aren’t I?”
Shadow shook off his surprise. “That’s...uh...” He paused, then asked, “What do you mean, ‘break something?’”
Silver looked back up. He was cringing. “Yeah, as in, breaking the timeline. She’s always stepping in to keep me from telling people things they’re not supposed to know. It’s really hard to let everyone make the mistakes they need to make, you know?” He let out a laugh that was half affectionate and half embarrassed. “I sometimes say that I’m useless without her. It’s not entirely a joke.”
Shadow wasn’t so sure about that, but he shifted the topic out of curiosity. “If they’re extinct in your time, why are you bothering with this now? You know it’s pointless.”
At that, Silver stood back up and squared his shoulders. “’Pointless.’ People always say that, and I’m tired of it. They say one little misstep can ruin the whole timeline, but they never believe that good deeds can do the opposite!” Shadow blinked in surprise at the switch in his demeanor. He stayed quiet while Silver continued. “If I can mess up the future with just a few words, then why can’t I fix things just as easily?” Silver noticed that one turtle had gotten flipped over onto its back and was flailing its flippers uselessly. He made a hill out of sand with his psychokinesis to flip it back over. “I’ll change the future with my own two hands!” He lifted more sand behind the turtle, making it slide down. The turtle flailed for a moment, but then it used its momentum to resume its scramble to the sea. Silver put his hands on his hips and nodded proudly.
Shadow just gaped like a fish for a moment, thrown off by the powerful, optimistic message--coming from the mouth of such a normally goofy hedgehog, no less.
He really is a good kid.
Oblivious to Shadow’s feelings, Silver scratched his chin, then grinned. He started pulling the waves farther up the beach to meet more of the turtles halfway, helping them into the ocean. Shadow took a step forward and watched him work.
“You’re well-suited to this. You could probably handle the whole job by yourself.”
Silver beamed, flattered, but his smile turned sheepish. “Thanks, but...no. I’d get way too distracted. I can never get over how beautiful nature is from your time period.” A soft noise on the sand nearby drew both of their attention, and they turned to see a hermit crab scuttle over toward the turtles. Silver’s eyes lit up. “Oh, how cool!”
He held out a finger and tried to get closer, but Shadow stepped in front of him. “Hmph.” He carefully threw a small Chaos Spear near the crab, aiming it just in front of the animal to startle it without actually hitting it. The scared crustacean scurried away.
Silver looked heartbroken. “Why’d you scare it off?”
“Crabs are one of the worst predators of baby sea turtles,” Shadow replied, crossing his arms.
“Oh.”
Shadow examined Silver’s slumped shoulders and disappointed expression. He shook his head. I was kidding about you befriending a crab. I really can’t leave you alone with this job, can I?
Silver scratched the back of his head. “I don’t like working alone anyway,” he admitted, mirroring Shadow’s thoughts. “I get too lonely. I’ve spent way too much time fighting by myself.”
The way Silver held himself after he said that called out to Shadow, prompting him to respond in a way that surprised even him.
“I can understand that.” Silver looked up in confusion. Shadow looked away and smoothed down a lump of sand that a few turtles had gotten stuck on. “Nature on the ARK was practically nonexistent. When I first came to Earth, I was floored by every plant and animal I came across, and I hunted down every scrap of information I could find about them.”
Silver’s eyes widened. “You, too?!”
Shadow nodded. “My past and your future aren’t so different.” He paused. Before he could stop himself, he added, “I tend to a garden at home. It’s pretty expansive. Amy’s visiting me on Sunday to take a look at it. You can join us if you want.”
Silver smiled wider than he had all day. “You mean it?!” Shadow nodded. “I’d love to!” He sprang to his feet and jogged in place in excitement.
Inwardly, Shadow nearly facepalmed. Hums and vibrations emitted from the cliffs behind them, alerting Shadow to more falling rocks, and he welcomed the distraction of shattering them once more.
I can’t believe I just did that. I gave up a chance to spend time alone with Amy--and in a romantic setting, no less! He looked back to where Silver was pumping his fist, still giddy over the simple invitation.
Why am I being so nice to this kid? Do I just feel bad for him? He watched as Silver hurriedly re-conjured the forcefield he’d accidentally dropped in his delight, blocking a rogue seagull in the process. I guess it’s kind of hard not to. He acts like a lost puppy, and he probably hasn’t ever seen half the flowers I look after. Shadow sighed in sympathy. I think I’m starting to understand why he likes “Creature Crossing” so much.
“Thanks again, Shadow!” Silver enthused, having run over to stand close to him while he was distracted. Shadow took an automatic step backward at the proximity. “Hmph.” He roughly ruffled Silver’s quills to distract him in response.
“Hey, Amy just fixed those!” Silver laughed as he tried to preen them back in place himself.
Shadow heard a giggle over the radio before Amy chimed in. “Did you know you two groom your quills exactly the same way?”
Shadow blinked in confusion, then realized he’d been subconsciously mimicking Silver’s motions. He took his hands away, then smirked as he replied. “Can’t take your eyes off me, can you?”
Amy laughed again. “I can’t help it! There’s nothing to do up here. No one’s come by at all,” she whined.
Shadow grinned at the opportunity. “Come down here.”
“Hmmm, I dunno...”
While she hemmed and hawed, Silver jogged over to Shadow, taking the radio from him to reply, “I can help! I’ve been working on a new skill lately. I can sense the presence of other life forms. I can pick up on anyone passing by for you!”
Amy squealed in excitement. “Oo, that’s so cool!”
Shadow glared and snatched the radio back. “Yeah. How useful.” Would’ve been nice to know that twenty minutes ago. We could’ve been spending time with Amy this whole time!
“That settles it, then. Incoming!”
Shadow was confused until Silver pointed up at the cliff. Amy leapt off of it. Before Shadow could panic, she whipped out her hammer and spun, using it to glide down slowly. She landed gracefully in the sand at the base of the cliff. Shadow relaxed, at least until he felt the hum and bizarre vibrations once more. The rocks above Amy started to crumble, then fell.
“Amy!” Shadow and Silver cried out in alarm.
Shadow instantly hurled a Chaos Spear, neatly splitting the biggest boulder in half. “Silver!”
“On it!” Silver constructed a hasty, wedge-shaped barrier over Amy’s head. It redirected the rocks to land on either side of her with blunt thuds in the sand.
Amy looked on with wide eyes. She then vanished the hammer she’d planned on using to defend herself and dashed toward them. “Wow! Thank you! You two make a great team.” Silver beamed proudly. Shadow responded with a simple nod. Amy pouted. “I wish we knew the source of the crumbling, but we’ve got nothing to go on.”
Shadow rubbed his chin. “What about those weird hums and vibrations that always happen beforehand?”
Amy cocked her head. “What vibrations?”
“I can feel them, too,” Silver chimed in. “It happens every time.”
The three of them thought for a moment, but then Shadow frowned. Wait a minute... He looked up. “G.U.N. sent us on an underground mission not too long ago--literally underground--to investigate minor recurring earthquakes that were damaging Sunset Heights. We found out Eggman was using this new, updated, more mole-shaped version of his old Burrobots to drill around down there, undermining foundations and generally wreaking havoc.” He growled as he remembered the pests. “Every time we got a lock on one, it just burrowed back into the ground, and more would pop up. It was hell trying to eradicate them without weakening the ground further.”
At this, a fire lit behind Amy’s eyes. “I’ll take care of this!”
“Are you sure you don’t want help?”
She shook her head furiously and conjured her hammer, posing proudly. “No need, Shadow. I've got the perfect weapon!”
Shadow hid his disappointment. “Can’t argue with that,” he admitted fondly. Amy nodded and ran back toward the cliffs. Shadow raced after her and kept a wary eye above her.
Amy ran her hands along the wall. “If they’re drilling around in here, there’s gotta be a way in...” She slid along the wall, lightly tapping her knuckles against the rock as she went. Her ears perked up when the rock emitted a more hollow sound. She excitedly wound up her hammer, then stopped when Silver put a hand on her shoulder.
“Ah...that might be overkill,” he pointed out. “Let me...”
Amy stepped back. He lifted his hands and levitated the boulders that had just fallen and set them aside, revealing a small crack that had appeared in the wall, leaving a tiny crevice behind. “Alright!” Amy exclaimed.
Shadow was more apprehensive than she was. “Are you sure you feel safe doing this alone?” Silver nodded in agreement.
Amy crossed her arms, clearly unimpressed. “Shadow, if there’s anyone who’s equipped for this, it’s me. You guys have been doing all the work so far, so it’s time I do my part! Besides, there’s no way you two can fit through that hole, and we can’t risk widening it with another hit.”
Shadow examined the crevice. As much as he wanted to argue, he couldn’t; with her petite frame and lack of back spines, Amy was clearly the only one small enough to fit. He sighed reluctantly. “Alright. Radio us if there’s anything we can do.”
“Don’t worry, you two. Have no fear, Amy Rose is here!” All three of them couldn’t help but laugh at her cheesy old catchphrase, even Shadow. She turned toward the wall and stooped down as if to crawl into the hole, then paused and peeked over her shoulder at them awkwardly. Shadow looked down at her dress and caught her meaning. His ears reddened. He took Silver’s arm and hastily turned him back around. “Let’s get back to work,” he insisted. The oblivious look remained on Silver’s face, but he shrugged and let Shadow lead him back to the turtles.
Their gazes immediately landed on a raccoon that had hopped over the rock barrier into the path of the turtles. It had picked up one of the hatchlings in its tiny paws. Before Shadow could react, Silver cried out, “No!” He swung his arm forward to shower the raccoon with a array of green sparks, leaving it dazed and disoriented. It dropped the hatchling and looked around in confusion. Silver took hold of the clump of sand under the raccoon with his psychokinesis and rapidly swept it away, sending it down toward the far end of the beach. Silver slumped and sighed in relief.
Shadow looked between Silver and the distant raccoon, impressed. “That was pretty fast.” For you, at least, he thought wryly. He kept that part to himself.
Silver crossed his arms and nodded proudly. “Swift’s my name and my game!”
Shadow stared at him blankly. “Your name is Silver.”
Silver cocked his head, then laughed. “Oh, right! I guess you wouldn’t know, huh? Silver’s just a nickname. My real name is ‘Swift.’”
Shadow froze, then slowly looked back at Silver in trepidation. “What did you just say?”
“Yeah! It’s actually ‘Swift.’ Weird, huh?” he replied, oblivious to Shadow’s turbulent thoughts.
“Why do you go by ‘Silver’...?” Shadow spoke slowly.
“Because ‘Swift’ was my grandpa’s name, and my great-grandpa’s name, and a bunch of my uncles’, too,” he explained, counting off his relatives on his fingers as he spoke. “We just go by our fur colors to clear things up. It’s a little silly, isn’t it? You’d think they’d just use a different name, but it’s tradition at this point.”
Shadow stared off into space as the pieces fell into place. She’s just like his mom. They have the same quill-line. They both have psychic-based powers. They’re both naïve, optimistic, and passionate about justice...dear Chaos, they even have the same smile, now that I think of it! How the hell have I never noticed this before?!
“Uh...Shadow? You okay?”
Silver’s voice snapped him out of his thoughts. He opened his mouth, deliberated, and then said, “...Don’t ever tell Amy your real name.”
His nose wrinkled in confusion--exactly the way Amy’s always did, his brain pointed out. “Why not?”
Shadow gritted his teeth. “Because you’ll break something.”
Silver kept frowning, but then he lifted his shoulders. “I guess asking why would defeat the purpose, huh?” Shadow nodded. Silver sighed. “Will I at least know in the future?”
“I’ll tell you someday.”
“Are you sure you won’t forget?”
Shadow let out a sudden bark of laughter, startling them both. “Trust me, I will never forget this.”
Silver still seemed curious, but he chuckled and set it aside. “Honestly, I’m fine just being called Silver. ‘Swift’ doesn’t really fit me. It’s kind of embarrassing to be a slow hedgehog.” He rubbed his arm shyly.
“I don’t know about that. Amy’s a hedgehog, too, and you’re about the same speed as her.” Shadow flinched as he felt the similarities continue to pile up. Of course they’re the same speed...
“Yeah, but it’s not like my whole family is like that,” Silver pointed out. “My grandpa Blue was as fast as they come! He could’ve given you and Sonic a run for your money.” He winked cheekily.
Shadow barely noticed. He felt his heart shatter. “Did you say...‘Blue?’”
Silver nodded happily, not picking up on Shadow’s pain. “Yup! I have a few blue relatives. Grandpa Blue, Uncle Cobalt, my cousin Sky...you get the picture!”
Shadow clenched the fur on his chest tightly. Of course she’s going to marry Sonic. Everyone knew that would happen.
Shadow heard sounds of metal clashing from inside the cliffs. When he felt vibrations again, he welcomed the chance to smash more rocks, throwing much more aggression into his Chaos Spears than before.
Everyone knew that...except for me.
Evidently spooked by Shadow’s sudden anger, Silver laughed nervously and tried to diffuse the tension. “You know, my family was actually relieved when I turned out silver. They were starting to run out of synonyms for blue and black.”
Shadow froze again. His head snapped back up. “Wait...you have black relatives, too?!”
Silver tilted his head. “Uh, yeah! There was my Great-Grandpa Black...my Uncle Pitch...heh. I even had an Uncle Jet. I was thrown off when I met present-Jet for the first time and he was covered in green feathers--”
Shadow rushed forward to grab Silver’s upper arms, startling him with his intensity. “Were there others?”
Silver snorted, thrown off by Shadow’s uncharacteristic enthusiasm. “Actually, my mom was black, too. She just didn’t need a nickname.” He chuckled again. “My dad always got the impression that her family was relieved when she married him because he was a white mink so we weren’t adding more blue or black to the family, but they never actually said it out loud because you can’t just say ‘Thank Chaos you married a white guy,’ haha! You know?”
Blue...and black...what does that mean? Do our kids marry each other somewhere down the line? What if she doesn’t marry either of us?! It could be anyone who’s blue or black...but I’ve never heard of any other blue hedgehogs...but what if it’s not a hedgehog at all?! Is there any chance in hell that it’s me? How can I win against him?!
“Uh, Shadow...? This is starting to hurt...”
Silver’s strained voice brought him back to reality. He realized he’d been staring intensely at him and gripping his arms too tightly. He immediately let go of him and stepped away. “...Sorry.”
“Are you okay?”
Shadow held Silver’s nervous gaze with his own for a moment, then sighed and looked away. “I’m fine. I just spaced out.”
If I keep interrogating this kid about his genetics, I’LL probably break something.
Shadow was spared the burden of explaining himself fully when a triumphant cry erupted from the cliffs.
“HAHAAAAAA!!!!!!!”
A boulder was effortlessly hurled aside. Amy stepped out of a hole in the rocky wall and thrust her arm above her head in a dramatic pose. She was holding a metal object in her upraised hand. She whacked it away with her hammer and let out a satisfied cackle of victory.
The object landed at Shadow’s feet. He recognized it as the disembodied head of one of the mole robots. Silver recoiled at the morbid sight. “Eugh!”
Shadow’s heart thumped a little faster as he looked between the head and Amy’s proud stance and smile.
She’s incredible.
Amy strolled over to them. “I hope you guys know you just missed the best game of whack-a-mole in history. I was on fire!”
Silver shuddered, most likely relieved he hadn’t been there. Shadow didn’t feel the same way. “I wish I’d been there. No one fights Badniks like you do.”
Amy held her hammer behind her back bashfully. “Aww, thank you! I do wish I could’ve found that last nest, but at least we solved one mystery!”
“I wish I could’ve been more help in finding the Badniks, but I can only sense organic beings, not robots,” Silver lamented.
Amy paused. “Wait...” She placed a hand on Silver’s shoulder. “What beings are you sensing on this beach?”
Silver pressed his first two fingers to his temple and squinted one eye shut. His tongue poked out of the side of his mouth endearingly as he concentrated, just as Amy’s did whenever she was focusing on something. “Well, there are the baby turtles,” he started, nodding to the few determined stragglers. “I can feel you two, plus the seagulls, hermit crabs, and that one raccoon...and there’s one spot farther down the beach where there are a whole bunch of little ones! I’ve been wondering about that all morning.”
The other two exchanged a look. Shadow facepalmed. Amy partially covered her face and sighed. “Silver? Sweetie?”
“Hm?”
Amy dragged her hands down to address him. “Why don’t you bring us over there?” Her smile held all the patience only a mother could have.
Or a great-great-great-grandmother, Shadow thought wryly.
Silver glanced over his shoulder. The last few turtles seemed to have things under control. “Alright! Why not?”
Silver led the way down the beach, pressing his fingers to his temple for guidance. He stopped at the base of a cliff just in front of some large ferns. He knelt to the ground and squinted. “I can feel it! They’re right in front of me, but they’re...underground...?”
Shadow and Amy looked at each other, dumbfounded. Amy pulled the ferns aside, while Shadow carefully removed a few boulders that had fallen. Thankfully, they’d landed in such a way that they’d propped each other up instead of falling directly at the ground, sparing the dip in the sand and its residents from damage.
“Wait a minute...” Silver pressed his ear to the ground, and his eyes widened. “I can hear it again! The–” He gasped and looked up at the other two. “No way!”
Amy giggled, and Shadow fixed him with a blank stare. This kid...
Soon enough, another set of turtle heads started poking up from the ground. Amy squealed, happy that she’d get to see some turtles hatch after all. Her enthusiasm was contagious.
--
With the late start, it took until the afternoon to get the rest of the turtles to their destination. The later time brought more predators, but with the cliffs standing strong and all three of them working together, they didn’t have much trouble. The conservationist showed up just as they were finishing escorting the last of the turtles to the sea.
“Oh, you three have done wonderfully! I knew I could count on you, Amy!”
Amy hopped forward and shook the human’s hand. “All in a day’s work, Myrtle!”
Silver poked his head around Amy to lock eyes with Myrtle. “How do you know it went well? Was Amy keeping you updated or something?”
Myrtle looked confused. “Oh, no! I was keeping up with the livestream on my way back here. The way you used your powers to save the cliffs and escort the turtles safely was a sight to behold!”
Shadow and Silver gaped and exchanged a nervous look. “’Livestream?!’” they chorused.
Amy giggled. “Sorry, guys! I never told you because I was afraid you’d get camera shy if you knew.”
Silver cringed. “You’re probably right. I don’t operate well under that kind of pressure.” Shadow had to agree. His eyes flicked around the beach, wondering where the cameras were hidden.
“We’ve been trying to raise as much awareness as possible about the Sunshells lately, and this year, I think we’ve finally done it!” Myrtle took out her phone and opened an app showing the tail end of a livestream. The last few turtles were dragging themselves to the sea. There was no sound from their location, only ambient music, and Shadow breathed a sigh of relief that their conversations hadn’t been broadcast.
Myrtle scrolled down to show them some of the comments.
“OMG, this is so. Cool!” “Aww, they’re so cute!” “Those hedgehogs make such a good team!” “The pink one’s cute--oh, God, did she decapitate that robot?!” “Awesome!” “Adorable!” “Amazing!” “I can’t believe Sunshells are endangered. They’re incredible.”
Myrtle beamed and closed the app. “Between the cuteness of the turtles and your dedication, you’ve inspired people to support us more than ever. Donations and volunteers have been pouring in! We’ll finally have the support and funding to give the turtles the resources they need!”
“You can thank Silver for that,” Amy said, taking one of his hands in her own. “He’s the one who found the third nest!”
“And he protected the turtles better than anyone else could have,” Shadow added, placing a hand on Silver’s shoulder. “No one else could have done this the way he did.”
“Aww, you guys are making me blush!”
Myrtle bent down to shake Silver’s free hand. “If that’s true, Silver, then thank you. I can tell today is the turning point for the Sunshells. We’ve got all we need to bring them back from the brink now!”
Silver, Amy, and Myrtle all smiled brilliantly. Even Shadow wore a small grin.
I guess you were right, Silver. One kid really can make all the difference.
--
Silver waved goodbye and teleported away with Chaos Control. Shadow took Amy’s hand to do the same, warping them both to her front doorstep.
Amy squeezed his hand instead of letting go. “Thanks for all your help today, Shadow! And it was really sweet of you to invite Silver to join us on Sunday. I can’t wait!”
“It was my pleasure. I’m looking forward to it as well. I...”
When he trailed off and didn’t let go of her hand, Amy frowned in confusion.
Shadow deliberated for quite some time. Silver’s sentiments from earlier echoed in his mind, enriched by the possibilities he now knew existed. He took a deep breath.
Time to shape my own future.
“Amy...I’ve...developed some feelings for you. Romantic ones.” He knew she could feel his hands shaking in hers, but he persevered, keeping his eyes shut solemnly. “I’d like to take you out sometime on a date, if you’d be interested.”
He slowly opened his eyes again. Her soft green eyes shone up at him in genuine surprise. It was several seconds--the longest several seconds of Shadow’s life, he’d later decide--before a casual smile spread across her face.
“You know what? Yeah! Why not?”
A wide grin spread unbidden across Shadow’s face. He pushed down the light, elated feeling in his heart long enough to say, “Yeah! Great! Um...can we figure out the details later?”
Truth be told, the confession was spur-of-the-moment and he hadn’t expected her to say yes, so he had nothing prepared. Luckily, she didn’t mind. She nodded, and he contained his excitement long enough to make sure she got into her house. He teleported back home and celebrated properly, mirroring Silver’s own jubilation from earlier in the day.

Semi-edgy bois *almost* swearing to keep it E-rated. Like father, like son...kind of.
The song Shadow sings is “You Will Be Okay” from Helluva Boss. @w0lp3rtinger introduced it to me ages ago, and it still makes me cry.

Sonic Headcanons - The Girls' Nights
The amount of girls and who's hosting significantly varies, but you can see any combo of Amy, Rouge, Wave, Tangle, Whisper, Jewel, Mina, Tiara (when she eventually appears in my lore), Honey (when she eventually appears in my lore), and, of course, Infinite. Obviously the more girls I add to my lore, the more could be added to this list. Blaze doesn't really attend these because they're too much for her.
Infinite is the most consistent attendee, Whisper is the most infrequent. Sometimes these get togethers are too much for her and she stays home. Everyone's chill with it (and is always ecstatic whenever she does appear)
Infinite, Silver, and Bean are the ONLY guys with immunity to the girls' craziness. Infinite shows up willingly, and Silver and Bean are just either too clueless (Silver) or too confident in themselves (Bean) to really be properly embarrassed by the girls if they get dragged into their shenanigans. All the other guys collectively understand if the girls catch them ANYWHERE NEAR the place of whoever's hosting, they're getting dragged into the activities and they're in for a bad night of teasing and humiliation. Like, Wave's hosting on the Rogues' airship? Jet and Storm go barging in on Sonic and Tails for the next 48+ hours (to ensure they're giving the girls plenty of time to fuck off, LOL). Rouge is hosting in one of her many penthouses? Shadow and Knuckles are scarce. Mina's hosting in hers? Fang who? he doesn't live here. 😂 You are in extra danger if you're either dating and/or live with one of the girls in attendance. Each guy has at least one story they can tell about getting caught by the girls and having something embarrassing done to them. (Fang's got five, poor guy has the worst luck in my lore, I swear. 😂)
Each night always has the same formula: The girls all get together to do an activity together (catch a musical/Rocky Horror shadow cast, see a fashion show, go drinking/gambling somewhere, Wave took them to see WWE wrestling once and that was a HUGE hit, etc.) Then they all go back to the place of whoever's hosting for makeovers, movies, some Jackbox, and lots of drinking and gossiping.
Infinite's usually the one getting the makeover. He's got long hair, he's taller than a lot of the girls, AND he's got that nice hourglass figure, he's pretty perfect for it. But the girls will make over each other too.
A consistent makeover always seems to happen is the girls trying to figure out how to make Jewel even shinier than usual, a la that time Jenna Marbles glued all those rhinestones to her face. 😂 Bark's phone usually ends up exploding in the middle of the night with all of the girls texting him pictures and video of the results of whatever the latest attempt was. The messiest was probably the time Mina and Wave teamed up to rig a t-shirt cannon to blast body glitter. Jewel was getting glitter on EVERYTHING for TWO WEEKS straight. 😂
Considering there's no such thing as a straight Sonic girl, these nights always take a sharp dive into gay territory real fast, especially after the alcohol's been busted out. At least one make out session will occur, and to quote Lucahjin: "Underwear happens."
There's lots of karaoke too, and it varies significantly in quality. Sometimes the girls are busting out stellar performances, sometimes there seems to be an unspoken agreement to "sing as loud and as off key as you possibly can"
Remember how I said Jet and Storm will vanish for 48+ hours? Sometimes the girls get no sleep ever during these sleepovers, and the next 24 hours AFTER the sleepover is spent sleeping off hangovers and just lounging around watching dumb crap on television. (Say Yes to the Dress is a frequent choice, especially as the girls eventually start getting engaged/married to people.) You're still in danger of being humiliated if you show your face during that time, Jet and Storm made that mistake ONCE.

Rating: E
Words: 5.8k
Read here or on Ao3
Besides the obvious bruising and swelling caused by Manson’s punch, Jake is unharmed and allowed to leave the hospital right after his debrief. Officer Wilson nicely offers to give him a ride home and after the day he’s had, which Jake gladly accepts - the faster he gets home, the faster he gets to see Amy. By the time he steps out of the car, onto the sidewalk framing Amy’s apartment building, and tells Wilson thanks for the ride, it’s closing in on two am. The streets of Brooklyn are as desert as the city that never sleeps can be, rather unusually quiet, but Jake can’t think about anything else but the painkillers he’s about to pop, the girlfriend he gets to kiss, and last but not least the soft bed that’ll promise him a good night’s sleep.
Or so he thinks.
The second he steps a foot into the apartment, using the spare key Amy gave him a few weeks ago which he proudly accepted, making him feel that more committed to their blossoming relationship, Jake immediately notices that something is not quite how it usually is. And if there’s something he loves about Amy and her place it’s how routine is everywhere to be found - from the tiny key-hook by the front door that holds Amy’s keys to how he knows the painkillers are stashed in the little pink plastic basket on the right top shelf of the bathroom sink cabinet. Tonight the atmosphere feels out of routine, almost making Jake feel like a stranger in an apartment that’s somewhat his own (they’re not quite there yet but they’re mostly at her place so).
It’s not just because the only elements lighting up the blacked-out apartment are candles (quite many of them) which in itself is very weird because no way Amy Santiago would go to bed with a candle, let alone tens of them, lit. The scene screams fire hazard. Jake himself has a hard time putting a finger on it, but somehow the entire energy seems different. It’s as if, somehow, the air is charged with a certain electricity, and, for a second, Jake wonders if he’s accidentally let himself into the wrong apartment - but that’s not possible, right? No way Amy’s key works for other front doors.
His keys make a by now familiar clinking sound as he places them on the key-hook, on top of Amy’s. A routine amidst the estranged feeling of this situation. Although he’d hoped and would’ve loved it if Amy had stayed up and waited for him, he knows his girlfriend’s schedule is highly prioritized (even over him, he learned very early on) and so he ignores her absence. What he can’t ignore is that Amy would’ve gone to bed with multiple candles still burning. Her silver three-arm candelabra on the dinner table, her rose-scented block candle on the coffee table, multiple smaller ones in the windows and around the couch/tv-area…
“Ames?” he calls out, loud enough to catch her attention if she’s awake but low enough to not wake her if she’s asleep.
Silence.
He quickly shrugs off the absence of her reception, and, as per a routine he likes to think of as “domestic”, a new feeling and aspect being with Amy has introduced him to, he kicks off his shoes. Instead of leaving them to clutter up the room, like he would if it were his own apartment, he neatly aligns them with hers on her little shoe rack. His coat goes on on a coat stand instead of a random chair. It’s small gestures like these that make him feel more in sync with his girlfriend. This also leads him to go around the room to blow out the candles. He knows Amy will appreciate him doing it, but he’s just barely put out one candelabra-light when his beliefs are contradicted.
Someone clears their throat and it has Jake freeze in his spot by the dinner table, much like a deer caught in headlights - a Jake caught in candlelights, one could say. All he can see is a silhouette standing in the hallway. Only just barely lit by the candles’ tiny flames, casting the otherwise dark room in a yellow and orange glow, it’s hard to see anything clearly. Still, there’s no doubt in Jake’s mind: It’s Amy.
From the way her silhouette almost looks naked, her curves on full display, he can tell she’s still wearing the infamous red skintight dress. Her now messy dark locks frame her face - her beautiful , amazing face - and scatter onto her bare shoulders which are only covered by the sleek dress straps. She looks flushed, luminous, and Jake can’t help but wonder whether it’s the candlelight or the sudden heat he’s sensing. Did it actually just get really hot in here or just him?
“You don’t like my candles?”
The sound of Amy’s voice is something Jake is very familiar with by now. Her presence has become something his senses immediately tap into, yet when she speaks, red, perfect lips shaping the words with precision, Jake feels his heart skip a beat as if it’s the first time seeing her. His jaw drops to the floor and he surely looks like an idiot, stuck in the same spot with no audible reaction. It surely doesn’t help when his girlfriend walks up to him in a way that has her look like a goddess on a runway. Slow, sleek, and surely she steps up to him as if she isn’t wearing uncomfortably tall stilettos. If Jake hadn’t previously listened to her complain about how awful these heels were then he’d beg her to wear them forever.
“I- uh- yes? No? I don’t know?”
A cocky chuckle gushes from her lips. It’s obvious that she has him right where she wants him, physically and mentally, and from the burning look in her eyes, he can tell she has a plan for them to follow tonight whilst she, hopefully,  wears that dress (at least for some of it).
“I thought I’d try to make the most of the night...” Her eyes switch to the clock on her wall. Five past two. Her brown irises slot back together with his. “What we’ve got left at least.”
He’s so entranced by her sultry gaze, mystery and mischief glowing in her eyes, that, until he suddenly feels her hands on his hips, he fails to notice how far across the room she’s made it. Now her warm breath is bedewing his neck, fingers playing with the buttons on his shirt and Jake’s never been good at chess but this feels a lot like checkmate.
He doesn’t say anything. Quite honestly unable to do anything else, he utters just the sound of his breath hitching in his throat, but Amy’s happy; it’s enough to reveal his true sentiments when she gracefully pops the first button with her sleek fingers. She pauses and holds his gaze.
“I’m really glad we ran into each other tonight.”
Already very much confused and barely able to grasp what reality he’s in at this point, Jake offers her little statement a frown. Ran into each other? They literally went to the club together, what does she mean-
“Most guys I run into at that club are usually barely mediocre...”
Oh… OH. It all suddenly clicks. That’s what she’s doing.
“... but you...” she interrupts herself by biting into her newly applied lipstick, showing off just how white her teeth are, as she moves on to pop the next button in line. “... you look like someone worth spending a night with.”
The colorful lights, the loud bass, the smell of cigarettes and alcohol, their moment of weakness in the scummy bathroom; the sensation of being back in the club comes rushing back. All of this, along with it the thought of Amy Santiago being his scandalous one-night stand, flicks a switch within him. Being with her every day is indeed a much better deal, one he’d never want to change, but this fictional role of the one-night stand he’s been put in? Definitely works for him too. Now he just needs to get up to speed and make up for time wasted on being utterly obvious. Luckily Amy Santiago can turn him on easily as a faucet.
“Yeah? You do this a lot, eh-?” He attempts, dabbling and getting comfortable in his newfound role.
“Cassidy.”
“Oh yeah, cool cool cool. Cassidy.”
After this infamous fumbling, figuring things out, he shifts back into gear. His voice descends into a darker tone, as well as his eyes - and don’t even get him started on his train of thoughts. His hands, up until now stuck by his sides, gently latch onto her waist instead and the soft feel of her dress, silk, he guesses, helps him adopt the exact right mindset for this game.
“So, Cassidy ,” he emphasizes the name as to get familiar with its taste, immediately learning that it savors of something poisonous and addicting. “You do this a lot? Take home guys without even knowing their name or telling them yours?”
Meanwhile, Amy’s already popped another button, revealing a good chunk of his chest, and has to tear her eyes away from it to meet his villainous gaze. There is no fighting it, and she willingly dives right into him as one would in a pool. Although instead of a clear blue mass of water, her’s is a dive right into a sinful twilight that’s slowly but surely consuming them both.
“Well,” she abandons the last two buttons untouched and sneaks her left hand down to the front of his pants to be met what she’s been patiently waiting for all night. A bulge, still quite modest but without a doubt present and growing. After all, they’re just getting started. “All you needed to do was ask for it. Like I’m going to do now: what’s your name?”
She grins, her eyes as well as her lips, and it takes every muscle in Jake’s body to think of a name, stay in the role, all while he’s not to give in to the hand that’s unmistakably cupping him through his pants.
“I bet you’re used to asking for what you want.” He’s kind of proud of that line, he must admit. “... And I’m Andrew.”
“Good to know, Andrew. And yeah…” she tightens her grip on him just a tad more, “it’s the easiest way to get what I want.”
“And what exactly do you want?”
Just like hers had moments ago, Jake’s hands slowly travel south and back, getting two handfuls of her ass and the fabric that’s enhancing its perfect shape. He feels her breath sink into the skin of his neck and lower face, slowly and bit by bit becoming a part of him.
“Whatever you’re willing to give,” she kisses the side of his neck, feeling the dampness her breath has left behind. Turns out he tastes even better than usual, a mixture of him, cigarettes, and alcohol so having her lips let go already seems unnecessary.
“And what if what I’m willing to give isn’t enough?”
He shamelessly squeezes her ass, thanking God for this goddess of a woman he gets to call his, and he’d be lying if he said her sucking on his neck and the feeling of her full behind didn’t have him almost fully hard already.
“Then I’m not shy of a little... begging,” she physically punctuates her sentence by letting her teeth sink into the skin right below his jaw, and it immediately sends her man of the night into another dimension where he can’t hold back and play nice any longer. Luckily, she doesn’t want him to.
In the bat of an eye, he’s got her face cupped in his hands and their lips colliding with a hunger that makes it seem as if they’ve never kissed before this very moment. The kiss is clumsy, hungry as if they’ve been starving for days, and once in a while they can hear their teeth clacking, colliding.
“You’re so gorgeous, Am- Cassidy,” he’s quick to correct himself. “Couldn’t keep my eyes off of you at that club. Was wondering how a fucking goddess like you was hanging out in a shit-hole like that.”
He feels her hands cling onto his neck. In response, he has to let go of her face. Instead, his hands wander back down to his hips. Although rather than both slipping backward like earlier, one sneaks its way down and forward to get a grip on the hem of her dress.
“And wearing this dress? How could I not notice you and instantly dream of fucking you in it.”
This rewards him a tiny moan, airy and soft right into his ear where her lips happen to be nibbling on his earlobe, and Jake knows he’s giving her exactly what they both want.
“Touch me,” she breathes almost inaudibly and although he hears her he can’t help but push some buttons.
“What are you saying, baby?” He smirks, slowly forcing the dress-hem up the warm skin of her thighs. “Say it again - louder.”
“Touch me, please .”
With two fingers hooked around the red fabric he drags it up to stop right by her pubic bone. “Only because you’re so good at asking for it. I might have you beg a bit later.”
She barely answers, only utters a little uhuh . The same two fingers slowly slip beyond the fabric and slide across the already damp gusset. It’s with a small victory smile that Jake carefully starts rubbing the area, immediately earning himself a small whimper. It falls from her lips as if it’s been waiting to do so for a long time now, and her head drops to rest on his shoulder.
“What did you say?” he cranes his neck in an attempt to get a glimpse of her face, but it’s mostly hidden in his neck. “Does that feel good?”
He doesn’t hear her but feels her nod against him, and so he adds a little more pressure with his fingers, digging into her through the fabric of what feels like lacy panties.
“I have barely touched you and you’re already this wet. Do you want more? Is this okay?” His tone doesn’t change by Amy can tell it’s Jake asking, not Andrew.
“Y-yes,” she whimpers, wishing he’d put more energy into touching her.
For a second Amy believes he can read her mind because as soon as the green light has officially been re-approved, her partner’s fingers force aside the gusset and gather some of her wetness to help embed themselves inside of her. He feels her shuffle on the spot in an attempt to stay on her feet and squirm a bit around him when his middle finger penetrates her, all to be summed up by a soft moan into his neck.
“God, you’re soaked, baby. Do you know how good that feels? Do you feel good?” he slowly starts moving his fingers inside of her, in a pattern he knows she enjoys, and he has to use his free hand to stabilize her as he challenges her with a quicker pace.
“S-so good. More, please.”
Her wish is his command, and he immediately meets it by switching up the pace to which he can hear and feel her react right away.
“This is so hot,” he breathes into the top of her head, her hair already mussed and messy from their fooling around. “You look amazing, you feel amazing. Kinda just wanna keep you in this dress. It looks fantastic on you.”
Busy whimpering and grinding along to the pace of his fingers, Amy has no time to reply and instead gives in to his upper hand. There’s something so exciting, so hot, not only about the roleplay but also the spontaneity of things, the way they haven’t even made their way out of the dining/living room. If Jak- Andrew wants to, he can have her right then and there. She wouldn’t mind one bit…
Caught up in a whirlwind of feelings and thoughts, trapped in the vessel that is her quivering body, it comes as a surprise when suddenly Jake nudges her in the direction of the dining table. Making sure to stay away from the still lit candelabra, Jake backs her up against the wooden surface.
“Sit,” he prompts and helps her over the edge of the table, safely seating her on it and as a consequence, his fingers slip out of her. They’re glistening with her juices and when he runs his hand across her thigh, her skin is smeared with her own lust. Then he nudges her legs further apart for him to fit in-between. The tight dress has by now suffered a lot of moving, already pushed up above her hips and creased into a bunch around her lower belly, which, once he’s ripped off her panties, leaves him with open access to where they both want him to bee.
“Wanna taste you,” he huffs into the kiss he’s pulled her into, leaving them both breathing hard and yearning for air when he retreats to sink to his knees. He’s left at the perfect height. “I’m gonna make you forget about all the guys before me.”
And he sure keeps his promise.
He dives right into the sacred space between her legs, tongue first, drawing circles around and with her clit, while his hands are forged onto her shivering thighs, making sure they stay wide open and spread for him. Her heaves and tiny breaths escape her with shorter and shorter intervals, promising them both a climax, which his tongue follows, focusing on all the right spots. He continuously eats her out like he’s been starved and deprived for God knows how long,  and she’s his main course.
“I-I’m almost there.”
She dares to let go of the table, just one hand, and plants it in his messy locks, which are already sweaty and wild from his rummaging between her legs. The tugging throws him into a higher gear that demands extra help from his fingers, still wet from earlier, which makes entering her easy. The second they sink into her, from the higher pitch of her moans, Jake can tell he acted wisely. She shakes, not only the thighs beneath her hands but her entire body, and he fights to keep up the pace that seems to be succeeding in bringing her closer to the edge. A few more pumps, licks and kisses to her inner thigh a couple of times before his tongue reunites with her clit for the final licks that have her climaxing with a loud moan, right there on the dinner table and his mouth. He pecks her heat a few more times as she comes down, then her inner thighs where he spreads her climax on her skin before standing up to see her leaned back onto the elbow that wasn’t tugging on his hair. The dress looks miserable crumpled up around her waist but something about it, paired with her closed eyes and messy makeup, leaves him with what he believes is the perfect picture. Her breathing is more or less just heaves and he lets her catch some air before he leans in to kiss her, open-mouthed as to allow her a taste of herself.
“Good?”
“So good,” she smiles right into the kiss, given a taste herself, eyes still closed as she focuses her energy on assembling herself for what is yet to come.
“Wanna see what you’re hiding in here,” she breathes but Jake barely hears it as all he can currently fixate on is her hand cupping the bulge in his pants, and her nimble fingers working the button and zipper open. Who said attending multiple meticulous and detail-oriented bomb-defusing classes would never come in handy?
“Wanna suck you off. I’ve been wanting to all night, even in that disgusting bathroom we met in. Could’ve sucked you off while you looked at yourself in that disgusting mirror.”
Though it’s pureoy fiction (at least for now - who knows?) Jake feels lightheaded just hearing her thoughts break free and let out into the open. Despite the fact he could never ask her to kneel on the club bathroom’s disgusting floor that, so filthy it stuck to your shoes when walking on it, just the thought of it does ignite something within him. One second they’re still making out, Amy on the table with Jake standing in between her legs, the next she’s got his pants unbuttoned and unzipped thus proceeding to push herself off the table, consequently pulling both his pants and boxers down at once (which kinda impresses Jake - he’s not gonna lie) as she gets descends to her knees.
Cassidy, Amy, whoever she is in this moment, doesn’t waste time. Jake admires the adulterated hunger in her eyes as she wraps her fingers around his hard, pre-cum leaking cock to give it a few assisting pumps before leaning in to kiss the head. Her gaze diverts from his hard-on to his eyes, up at him through thick and black mascara-coated lashes, as she gives the very tip a tiny, almost experimental, lick. Just the sight and feel of her tongue on him, her saliva mixing with his pre-cum is enough to send him to heaven, but he sure doesn’t complain when the innocent lap is succeeded by a full-on licking motion that goes around his full girth.
“Gosh, you’re killing me.”
He reaches for her cheek, stroking it with his thumb as if to praise her for her actions. “You like this, huh? Hunting down your preys, taking them home… only for you to become the prey.”
Nothing is answered, at least not verbally. Instead, she slowly goes down on the length, lips stretched to the max around him and batting her eyelids as her gagging reflex is challenged. His hand leaves her cheek and instead travels to the back of her head where it can get a good grip on her hair. Here it settles on following her movement as she bobs her head, swallowing him again and again. The grip on her doesn’t have a real purpose, he doesn’t try to control or force anything with it. All it really does is provide him with another pleasing aspect of feeling her movements, giving him some sense of staying grounded when the thrill becomes too much and he starts losing himself to the thrill of her actions.
“Fuck, you look so good on your knees like this, and…” He’s interrupted by his own growl, escaping him the second he feels a very soft scratching of her teeth against his pulsing member. It takes him a few seconds to recollect himself. She’s sucking him off like a champion, one hand by the base, the other on his thigh, steady rhythm and small hums in between. Hums that he’ll remember till the day he dies. “Your lips stretched around my cock like this? Like they were made for it, fuck. I’m not gonna last though - not if you keep eating me up like this.”
Her lips offer him a few more pumps, slowing down to a halt and leaving her in his mouth for a few seconds before she lets him slip out of her mouth, leaving a thin thread of a mix of saliva and pre-cum to hang on for dear life between her lips and his cock. She can taste him and he can see his discharge on her lips glowing in the candlelight. Her knees are pink and raw when she stands back up, hair messier than ever, and dress crumpled, bunched up around her waist. She’s amazing, Jake thinks, in awe of how he landed someone as perfect as her - in every way imaginable. Tonight is just one of many aspects, and every day with her is truly the best day ever
“C’mere,” he pulls her in by the waist, too caught up to let her go for even a second, and without even thinking twice his right hand cups her heat, feeling the wetness seep through her lips and trimmed bush. Just what he’d hoped for. “You’re gonna start dripping on the floor if we keep going like this.”
“Would you like that?” she breathes onto the shell of his ear, grinding into his hand, and sending shivers down his spine.
“Yeah, I would… But I’d rather put how absolutely soaked you are to good use.” He slips his middle finger in between her folds, gathering wetness, feeling her squirm. “I’d much rather fuck you right into this wall…” he backs her into the nearest wall that’s clear of shelves and pictures frames, a low-risk area per se, “... while you’re wearing this stupidly hot dress.”
She’s sucking bruises into his neck, not allowing him to see her face, but the second her back hits the wall she’s back to kissing her way up to his lips. Here she tugs on his plump, still bruised bottom lip before dropping her head backward, letting it lull against the wall. Her eyes are darker than ever, brown irises borderline black, as she stares right into his. “Do it then.”
“Do what?” he challenges. He wants to hear her say it. Every word, every syllable.
“Fuck me. Up against this wall. Wearing this red dress.” She pulls down the skirt, just to cover her ass and give him the full dress-experience rather than it just being fabric bundled up around her waist. “ Please .”
It sure is impossible to not act when she bats her eyes at him, spilling filthy words, drawing him in like a moth to a flame. Before he’s even fully aware, his animalistic instinct takes over and has him holding up her leg with one hand, the other giving his cock a few pumps prior to guiding the tip through her folds.
“Cond-”
She’s quick to interrupt. She knows it’s his character asking, since, in reality, they both know they’re clean and she’s on the pill - though she appreciates the effort of staying in character and the fact that Andres is a reasonable man.
“Fuck me. Raw.”
“You’re something else, Cassidy,” he chuckles, and having already gathered enough wetness on him he pushes into her, slowly and torturously, feeling her heat take him in and hearing her moan shatter the silence.
“Yes,” she hisses at the stretch, her uplifted leg leaving her more open and the piercing sensation somewhat smoother.
He starts slow, rocking into her with ease.
“You look so hot. Can’t believe you’re letting me take you right here up against a wall. Fucking filthy.”
He eventually picks up her other leg as he picks up speed and by the time he’s fully slamming into her with a powerful pace that has her legs shaking, he’s fully holding her off the floor and fucking her into the beige wall behind her. She moans with every thrust, every collision between her body and the wall, thumps, as she holds onto his shoulders for dear life, thighs burning from clinging onto his hips. The angle at which he penetrates her is just perfect, hitting and stimulating all the right zones, and, even comparing to the loads of amazing sex they’ve had, this, without a doubt , goes in the top three. The wall is cold against her back, creating a sizzling contrast to the heat forming between their rubbing fronts. His shoulders and arms are flexing under her weight, and now there’s no denying that Jake Peralta the hottest guy she’s even been with.
“R-right there, ah, yes,” she hisses, head pressed back into the wall, the friction messing up her hair.
“This feel good, huh?”
“So good- fuck , harder, please.”
“You feel so good around me, you know that? All wet, all tight… Just like your dress. Fucking gorgeous.”
He picks up the pace, putting great effort that has him sweating through his nice shirt, never fully removed, as he works her up, almost as if he hopes to leave an outline of her on the wall. Her moans pick up the pace, turning into small squeals that can barely come to an end before a new one takes over, and Jake can tell she’s closing in on a climax. So is he.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck, J-Jake.”
It flies out of her, beyond her control. It’s hard to stay in character when your groin is one fire like (almost) never before, but she was the one to start the roleplay and he’s going to keep her in it. You have to finish what you started.
“Who’s Jake?” the trust going in with his name is extra hard and earns him a loud whimper, topping all other sounds so far, as if to apologize for her mess-up. “Is he some other guy who you’ve taken home and gotten fucked by?”
“S-sorry, bad habit,” she leans in to kiss him in hopes of making him forget or at least let go.
“Do I fuck you better than he did? Huh?”
She doesn’t say anything but keeps moaning, her pitch gradually becoming higher.
“Tell me,” he momentarily lets go of a leg, feeling her ankles hook together behind his back, to cup her cheek and force her to look right into his eyes. “Have you been fucked like this before?”
“N-no,” she stutters in-between his cocks collision with what he knows is her good spot.
“Couldn’t hear you,” he growls, provoked, and dying to hear the statement in its entirety fall from her sinfully pink lips now that he’s gnawed off the red lipstick. Almost synchronously to his demand, he picks up the pace, heading for the last stretch, which he knows might not be the smartest when he wants her to speak. But Amy Santiago loves a good challenge. To his surprise, the always so consistent woman completely fails, moans turning into small screams as she chases her peak, and Jake can only forgive her inability to answer him right away. It doesn’t refrain him from insisting a few moments later though.
“What did you say, baby?”
Every word is punctuated with a thrust, thrusts that go deeper than before, and Amy on her part is a wreck barely clinging onto him and the wall behind her.
“I-I said…” melts into a groan when he, once again, strikes just the right spot. “I said that I’ve never been fucked like this before.”
“Didn’t think so.”
Jake grins rather proudly even though, in reality, he’s competing with himself. Beads of sweat trickle down from under his wavy bangs who by now are very much soaked, plastered to his forehead like a wet (but also kinda cute, if you ask Amy) mop. In every which way possible, there’s something very special and satisfying about a chuffing, puffed-up, sweaty Jake holding her like he currently is, taking on this commanding role of Andrew, and Amy is sure: she won’t mind revisiting this act some other time.
“Be a good girl: suck on my fingers and get them nice and wet for me.”
His hand that was once on her cheek presents itself, and Amy doesn’t even have the time to feel embarrassed about how quickly, without any second thought, she opens her mouth for them. Obeying is part of her DNA and dutiful as Amy Santiago is she immediately welcomes his index and middle finger into her mouth, sucking on them with a great commitment that Jake undoubtedly appreciates.
“Good girl,” he praises, their eyes’ locked in their perhaps most intense staring contest ever. Amy makes sure to take his fingers all the way in, lips reaching his knuckles, and Jake almost forgets his agenda.
Keyword: almost.
After slowing down the pace of his thrusts and retracting his fingers, to Amy’s great chagrin, the hand drops to between her legs, and his fingers are added to the mix, the chasing of her climax, and oh it definitely works. Amy’s whining reaches a brand new level, hitting a high note he’s never heard before, and he can feel her tense around his cock and fingers. She’s almost there, and even though Amy, in the red strappy dress, taking him so well, is a piece of art that he’d like to hang on a wall forever, he knows she needs release. And so does he.
“Yeah, that’s it, baby, just like that. Do you know how beautiful you are? It’s very distracting yet I can’t look away.”
High-pitched moans and whimpers are all he gets in return. His fingers slip out of her heat, now even wetter than after being sucked on, but don’t go far and redirect to give her clit the final attention.
“If you keep making those sounds I’m not going to be able to stop myself.” He chuckles, leaning in just far enough to peck her lips, and if they hadn’t only been dating for a couple of months, the best couple of months ever , he would be pretty sure of the fact that he’s very much in love with Amy Santiago, Cassidy, Dora and every other version of his incredible girlfriend.
“T-then don’t.”
So he doesn’t, her word is her command after all, and a couple of strokes and thrusts later, nibbling on her clavicle with just a bit more teeth than intended but too blown away to be able to control it, she lets out a cry as she comes apart around him. Limbs going limp, just barely managing to cling onto his body and avoiding a fall to the floor, Amy reaches and crashes completely, hitting a climax for the record books. Jake follows right behind, coming into her,  riding it out with her aftershock, and then the room goes silent as if nothing had happened. Only their heavy breathing is to be heard.
“Shit,” she pants.
“The good kind?” he chuckles pulling out of her, but still carrying her.
“The very good kind, Andrew . Maybe the best one yet.”
They share a small laugh as she pushes his sweaty hair back, admiring the admiration in his eyes that seconds ago were darker than the pitch-black night sky outside her window. How fast they can switch will never cease to amaze her.
“Kinda sucks I let another man beat that record.”
“Well…” she leans in, offering him a consolatory kiss that he gladly accepts, before she pulls back, just an inch, to whispers against his lips. “The night is young. Andrew had his turn, now Jake Peralta can show me his worth.”
“Holy shit- Amy Santiago, you’re going to be the death of me.”
It’s safe to say that Jake wins back the record and Amy eventually ends up washing her dress. Twice. On the warmest setting possible.

I meant to translate this from Spanish a while ago, and since now I’m in a fully SonAmy mood might as well do it.
We came up with a little side-quest story idea for Sonic Rangers, and that includes our favorite emotional support hedgehogs meeting up and having a small adventure together.
Picture this: the open world of Sonic Rangers includes many opportunities for Sonic to run into his friends and maybe help them in character-driven quest chains, not unlike games such as The Witcher 3 or even the Yakuza series and their substories. In this particular encounter, Sonic runs into Amy in the forest, planning something.
There’s a big Eggman-controlled robot blockade set up just outside the main city zone of the map, and Amy wants to take it down before Eggman can deploy more forces and invade the city for good. Sonic can agree to help her beat some robot butt and together they stage an attack on the robots, adding some charming dialogue and a bit of teasing as they execute Amy’s plan.
After cleaning up the blockade, Amy asks Sonic if he could escort her to check if anyone in the city needs help, and the player has the option to accept the request or decline it and end the quest there. If the player accepts, they will return to gameplay and run to the city.
What Sonic didn’t notice until he was in there is that there’s a massive theme park, bigger and better than Twinkle Park will ever be, and that this whole quest could have been something Amy planned all along just to go on a date. Sonic’s suspicions seem to be confirmed as soon as Amy suggests they could check out the park, since they’re already there. The player once again has the option to accept or decline, and if they accept, a sequence like SA1 Twinkle Park will play out, but with a lot more fun dialogue involved.
After roaming up and down and all around the park, Sonic is about to call it quits since it wasn’t on his plans to go so far out of his way, but right in that moment a big Eggman robot lands in the park, forcing Sonic and Amy to fight this mini-boss together.
At the end, Amy remarks how this was probably one of the best dates she’s ever had in her life and Sonic, while still a bit upset at Amy for leading him into all this thing, low-key admits he had more fun today than he anticipated, and soon the two of them separate... until next time.
The beauty of these types of sidequests would focus on: 1) having some quality character interactions that don’t really tie into the main narrative (”loyalty quests” could still be a requisite to reach the “best ending” though); 2) add more meaningful side content for the player to explore; 3) share a spotlight on other secondary characters (imagine running into quests for Silver, Big, even the Chaotix.) Of course this is all fanfiction-y and not a real Rangers proposal or anything, but my friends and I had a lot of fun coming up with this stuff :P
